UK police behind effort to ban knives to end ‘knife violence’

The ultimate goal of government and the elites is to make everyone dependent upon government for everything, especially protection, so that it can easier dominate and control the citizenry. That is what’s behind the ongoing efforts to disarm Americans and neuter the 2nd Amendment, not to reduce so-called “gun violence” and keep people safe as the gun grabber crowd claims.

If keeping people safe were the goal, the gun grabbers wouldn’t be focusing on so-called “assault weapons” as their weapon of choice to ban, but on banning items like clubs, hammers, hands, fists, feet, etc., and knives (not to mention mainstream medicine, which kills hundreds of thousands each year). That’s because, according to FBI crime statistics, those implements are used to commit murders far more often than so-called “assault weapons.”

In fact, knives kill more than five times as many people in the United States as all rifles combined, a category that includes, but is not limited to, so-called “assault weapons”: 1,490 killed by knives compared to 285 killed by rifles in 2013.

This fact is known by many in the pro-2A crowd, which has led some pro-gunners to derisively call for knife control or blunt object control or fist and feet control in response to calls for “assault weapons bans” by the establishment.

But not so fast, as British police are supporting an effort called “Save a Life: Surrender Your Knife” in an attempt to curb the growing rash of “knife crime” in the country and have people place their “pointy” knives into bins strategically placed in almost every town.

A companion effort called “No Knives, Better Lives,” provides us with astounding wisdom like, “There’s no safe place to stab someone,” and, “If you stab somebody and they die, you may face a life sentance (sic),” and, “By carrying a knife, you are much more likely to get stabbed yourself as situations involving weapons can quickly get out of control.”

In 2005, the BBC reported on a study by the British Medical Journal showing that kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings committed in the UK. It argued that many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all-too-available weapon.

As the BBC report tells us:

The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all.

They consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen.

None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.

The researchers said a short pointed knife may cause a substantial superficial wound if used in an assault – but is unlikely to penetrate to inner organs. In contrast, a pointed long blade pierces the body like “cutting into a ripe melon”.

The groups, citing the research, of course, want to impose bans on pointy knives to curb the “violence.” I notice there is no call by researchers to end alcohol and drug use in the UK – but, oh wait, drug use is already illegal, as are pointy knives in the hands of those who do not need to use them in their work… and there are also already crimes against using pointy knives to commit violence against others.

But of course, in the mind of a progressive statist, there is nothing another law can’t fix. And if one doesn’t do it, surely two more will.

Which brings us back to the fallacious arguments of gun grabbers. Guns are illegal in the UK, so now there is an effort to make knives equally so. And it just goes to prove there is no form of protection that the elites won’t attempt to remove from the hands of the people.
