The Branch Of Power Most Interested In War

March 24, 2011 by

Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) says he plans to offer up a measure that would defund United States attacks in Libya.

Good for him. If the rest of Congress intends to assume its Constitutional authority, the measure will pass. If it doesn’t, we can assume Congress has no intention of following the U.S. Constitution and the Tea Party should immediately target all members of Congress who willfully ignore the Constitution.

Article I Section 8 grants Congress the power to declare war. The Founders’ intent on that was clear.

As James Madison wrote Thomas Jefferson, “The constitution supposes, what the history of all governments demonstrates, that the executive is the branch of power most interested in war, and most prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care vested the question of war in the legislature.”

In an interview with the Boston Globe Dec. 20, 2007, then-candidate Barack Obama said, “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

The President obtained the approval of the United Nations to make war on Libya. He didn’t obtain the approval of Congress, as the Constitution requires. As Kucinich has said, that is an impeachable offense and, apparently, Obama knows it.

How many impeachable offenses must this usurper get away with before this country and its Constitution are competely destroyed. I fear that when this happens there will be many to rise up and blood will be spread on a wide scale. Where are you, the oath takers,of congress?

Two things to think about here are first, this is most likely to, at best, turn out much like the situation with Bill Clinton. The House may impeach him, but I find it very doubtful that the Senate will actually remove him from office!
In the second place, has anyone noticed who would replace him? This just might be a case of better the enemy you know than the Idiot who is next!

True, but given a choice, I would rather have an idiot than an enemy.

Zowie! I lived long enough to know that Kaptain Kosmic [aka Kucinich] said something that makes sense! Go, Dennis, go!
The Anointed One may get away with his love of this latest DUMB war, but he’s following in Woodhead Wilson’s footsteps. He’s contradicted himself again.
He waffles and flipflops. He’s almost a living contradiction. He couldn’t lead lemmings to the ocean, but he’s still got some boobs hoodwinked.
I don’t know what happened to Kucinich, but it’s nice to know that it is possible to be converted to common sense and abandon losers like the poser in the WH.

He doesn’t know what an oath is and he is just executing the plays from Saul Alinsky’s playbook. Traitor!

Good points, Bob, but I would point out a couple things:
“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

There is however no stated Constitutional restriction on why or how Congress can declare war or authorize punitive action. Perhaps the President assumed Congress’s tacit approval or, like any good lawyer, he figured to argue that since other members of the UN Security Council were calling for it, it was his obligation under treaty to comply, thus “The President obtained the approval of the United Nations to make war on Libya. He didn’t obtain the approval of Congress, as the Constitution requires. As Kucinich has said, that is an impeachable offense and, apparently, Obama knows it.” Now, if anybody besides Kucinich had said it, there may have been something credible about ‘impeachability.’ Sorry, if you stand up with a limp noodle you don’t stand straight. While I support making the Europeans do their own fighting for a change–or charge them for our doing it–I can’t get behind you on this isolationism binge you’re on. I can’t think of a time in history in which we have benefitted from it. Until we find a better solution…we gotta pound the nails where they pop up.

Yes, indeed Our President is doing what he wants, and is time to impech him; though will this be better for Our Nation?

It is about time that Our President stop pandering to Unions, and harassing businesses that are good for Our Nation.
Richard Tremka (AFL-Cio) is nothing more than a tug!

We will save Our Nation from the hands of tugs and thieves!

Yes indeed, The President Obama’s South America and Salvador trip; would this create jobs for Our Nation or will benefit the undocumented people?

I am sick of the double standard policies of this administration! Enough of hypocrisy!

Realism instead of idealogy, works better.

We the people elected a President not the U.N. to take care of Our Nation.

What a great “Hope and Change”! Words, nothing more than empty words.

My LOVE to you all, and May GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

The Mystery Man has 60 60 90 days to explain himself to the congress and they have the dicrestion over the funding at anytime.

It is unusual to say the least for a conservative such as myself to give credence to anything that Denny K. has to say but here and now he has a point because I don’t believe a word being said about this whole Lib-Ya thing….it’s a ruse and it can be seen thru, look out Israel.

There’s a popular story-line that says the major governments of the world, particularly in Europe and North America, are not controlled by their electorates, but by a more-or-less secret cabal of bankers. Assuming this is true, we have to ask: why would Mr. Obama risk the American electorate seeing proof of this in his actions against Libya without even pretending to ask Congress? What is so critical about Libya that justifies such exposure? This is far from the first time Muammar Qaddafi (AKA Daffy) has forcibly repressed dissent in his country. So why this time? What exactly did Daffy do to so tick off the bankers? Or are the bankers staging this at Daffy’s expense to keep us entertained while they pull some other great ripoff?

Or could it be simply that the Narcissist-in-Chief was so eager to appear like a big boy in the eyes of his European socialist heroes that he just plain forgot he has an obligation to follow the laws and customs of the People of the United States?
