Stalled From The START

December 28, 2010 by

Stalled From The START

If there were any doubts as to President Barack Obama’s religious affiliations, then this past Wednesday ought to roast them like chestnuts in an open fire. With assistance from the more pliable Republican spines in the Senate, Obama handed the Russian military machine one whopper of a Christmas gift.

Carrying through on his campaign promise (for once), Obama managed to push the New START treaty through the just-ended lame-duck session of the Senate. To hear Obama and the treaty’s backers tell the tale, New START will ensure a lasting peace across the planet. However, a perusal of the treaty’s provisions reveals that peace remains far from guaranteed; and may have gotten a lot more expensive — for us.

According to Senator John Kerry:

“…we move the world a little out of the dark shadow of nuclear nightmare…"

Outside Chernobyl — to which nuclear nightmare might the distinguished gentleman from Massachusetts be referring? The reason huge swaths of the planetary rabble have never been subjected to a nuclear nightmare is that one nation — the United States — has been willing and able to invest in and maintain a deterrent arsenal.

Examination of New START calls to mind the warnings at some national parks: “Please don’t feed the bears.” In the case of the Russians, Obama has made what he considers a diplomatic gesture. The problem is that the Russians look at diplomatic gestures the way ursines look at roast beef sandwiches: “Nice sandwich. I wonder if we can get the whole arm.”

New START does not reduce tactical nuclear weapons, in which the Russians hold a nearly 10 to one advantage over us. Presuming the Russians abide by treaty provisions (which by itself would be a hell of thing), Obama has essentially agreed to limit shotguns, while ignoring all their AK-47s.

In addition, New START is a nuclear-powered raspberry to allies we’ve spent nearly two decades warming up after they spent a half-century enduring a long Soviet winter. In order to convince the Russians to go along with New START, Obama agreed to scrap planned missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Democrats often wax rhapsodic about their admiration for European culture. According to paragraph nine of New START’s preamble, American missile defense systems must be limited so as to:

“…not undermine the viability and effectiveness of the strategic offensive arms of the Parties.”

New START could potentially allow them to appreciate European culture at night; once it glows in the dark. And the Russians are already threatening to abrogate the treaty should we place new “nukebusters” in Europe. According to General Yevgeny Buzinskiy:

“… (it is) possible for us, in case the Americans increase their strategic ABM system, to claim that they are not observing… the treaty."

The President signed New START in April. The Senate ratified it last Thursday. The Russians are acting like they had their fingers crossed the whole time, with General Nikolai Makarov saying:

"The Strategic Rocket Forces will not be reduced. The forces will be armed with modern mobile missile launchers."

They’ve already found a loophole and they’re going to exploit it like a blind drunk babushka.

There’s also a minor detail regarding nuclear-armed countries which speak both English AND Russian with funny accents. New START has no effect on nations other than Russia and the United States. The Chi-coms are nearly as good at building nukes as they are at pirating DVDs and running over dissenters with tanks. They are not a party to New START. Neither is North Korea, which has nuclear weapons under the thumb of Kim Jong Il, who’s a monocle and pet cat away from being a James Bond movie villain. Neither is Iran, which is diligently working on nuclear power for peaceful means — honest! Neither is Pakistan, which is an Islamabad cricket match from being renamed “Jihadistan,” and electing “President bin Laden.”

New START also has a limited verification provision, which amounts to a “the inspectors are here, act like we’re not playing with the enriched uranium” effect. But it will have virtually no impact on movements of non-covered (read: tactical) weapons within the signatory countries. With the Russians infamously lax in the weapon-security department, the possibility exists that a Russian weapon could end up in the hands of our good friends in al-Qaida — and ultimately in a suburban shopping mall.

New START is the worst kind of flower-child diplomacy. Our co-signers are about as likely to abide by the letter of the agreement as John Kerry is to win a presidential election. (Too soon?) The treaty puts the United States at a marked, and potentially dangerous, disadvantage. While Obama’s general ineptitude is — at best — trying, this sort of muddled “peace at any price” foreign policy is somewhat frightening.

To quote Homer:

"There can be no covenants between men and lions."

Nor bears.

New start for Obama I guess that is the start of our downfall right. I wonder just how many of these treties we have made with Russia they have actually honored? I would say that would be close to zero. How is now going to be diffrent? Of course its the fact that we have a meglomaniac in office. He thinks because its him they will bend over backwards. Or is it they see a kindred spirit in him. I dont know?

I just wonder how safe this is really going to make us when N. Korea finally gets a missel that can hit us. And we have no missel defence. I dont see a win here for us by not being able to defend ourselves. But I think this might have been the agenda all along. Mike L.

    • hflashman

Wow..is there nothing the wacked Right likes other than war, belligerence, colonization, and a society split along rigid economic and social strata? Is there anything aboutthis Nation they like?

One has to wonder when the acked begin to listen to buffoons like Crystal and treat their insane thoughts and comprehensions as if they were truth and akin to bibical writings.

Over 900 hearings, not one former Sec of State against it, not one major former or current military leader against it, and there was a agp in monitoring of Russian nuclear capabilities and research which had gone on for months for lack of a verification treaty. All this Crystal conveneiently fails to mention as he throws red meat to the carrions of the flock making up the wacked contingent of American political fringe.

With amazing singularity, Crystal once again is showing that he has one foot in the oor of the asylum, if not a dues paying member of one. If there was ever a true definition of a crime, his receiving a degree from any educational institution would be evidence that his alma mater is perpetrating a fraud by saying it is an institution of any type of education.

START allows monitoring to begin again. It limits the numbers of nukes (how may does a nation need to blow up the world?). Combined with several other treaties, it places severe constraints and limits on the export of nuclear technology. And it follows the the adage “Trust, but Verify’. Putin and his lckeys are not trusted, and I have yet to hear ayone from this administration state that they “looked ito the man’s eyes and saw his soul and he could be trusted”. (and ya believed THAT at the time everyone with half a brain was stating otherwise).

So I take it Crystal wants a new arms race, a weakened northern foe along China’s borders, dangerous nuke material unaccounted for and unmonitored, and more of our tax monies spent on non productive miliary weaponry.

One really has to ask at ths point what Crystal is. Because with his writings, he is showing us more and more there is no definition of ‘patriot’ that fits his ilk and thought process. Not if one is speaking about an American patriot.

      • smoothnu

I’m sorry does this mean you like the Start Treaty? It’s hard to tell with your ranting.

        • hflashman

I may or may not like it. I haven’t read the document itself. But I wonder if Crystal has (or anyone on this forum has). I have to go by the supporters who testified, the number of hearings over it, and the various commentators who discussed it (not just MSNBC FYI).

What scares me is that the wacked Right want to allow Putin a free hand, unmonitored, and they see nothing wrong with that. Fact is..they seemingly view that as desirable. That and i don’t see anywhere where either party is weakened. Stabilized as to weaponry, yes. Weakened/ You have to be kidding or truly a nutcase if you believe that.

          • DaveH

Allow Putin a free hand? You are more ignorant than I realized, Flashdunce. Leaders are liars, especially Putin. Honest people obey rules, dishonest people don’t, so the only ones that have free hands when more rules are passed are the dishonest people. It amazes me that you Liberals are so clueless in that respect. That’s why the Drug Wars are creating the class of wealthy evil Drug Lords. Dishonest people don’t obey rules.
            As Government Grows, Corruption Flows.

          • hflashman

DaveH … so you would have no treaty and instead have an arms race and unmonitored nuclear weapons, production, and research? So Putin can do this openly stating that there are no agreements against this?

            Weird, strange and utterly irresponsible.

          • DaveH

Flash says “I have to go by the supporters who testified, the number of hearings over it, and the various commentators who discussed it (not just MSNBC FYI)”. And you think there wasn’t all that when they passed the Patriot Act, Flash, which you whine about often?
It seems to me that if you’re going to support something enthusiastically, that you ought to at least know what you’re supporting.

          • eddie47d

Dave H. “The drug Wars are creating a class of wealthy evil drug lords” …and that has what to do with the topic? It’s been Conservatives who have been pushing the drug wars for more than a half a century. How’s that working out Dave? They grandstand on jailing marijuana users who are usually as harmless as that pet gerbil you had as a kid. Great use of our law enforcement officials who seem to get a kick out of putting any drug user in prison. That is the real burden and very costly to society. The drug wars are great for Hollywood movies and statistics but has solved nothing. I would say it’s the Conservatives who are plying everyone with dishonest rules so they can claim tough on crime status. The same as with The Patriot Act:Tough on terrorism, hardly! Tough on the American people, you betcha!

          • hflashman

DaveH…of course I did that with the unPatriotic Act. I also was concerned enough to read that abortion of justice and Rights. Anyone with any sense would have been screaming about it (as I and many of my friends were). however, the fanatic Right and the cowards who placed self interests above natioal security yelled and screamed louder and Bush II was lyin’ enough, pulling strings, bribing and extorting to make it work and give more weight to the cowards than true freedom loving brave Americans

          • DaveH

To answer your question, Flashdunce, I would have no treaty. I would arm our country to the teeth and stay out of other countries’ business. Without the worldwide meddling by our Military, we wouldn’t need to worry so much about attack from outside. I would let other countries sink or swim by their own policies. And I certainly wouldn’t donate other peoples’ money to prop up the failures. Here or there.

          • hflashman

DaveH…so you would have no treaty. Brilliant Sherlock. And pray tell, how would you pay for this arms race as we emerge from one of the two wars the GOP pushed us into and allowed to continue for the decade?

And you somehow perceive an arms race to be safer than restricting nukes and allowing both sides verification and monitoring? Really? Frippin’ brilliant Sparky..simply brilliant.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            hflash,
show me where there is a verification clause in the treaty! Several politicians have stated that there is none! even the MSM reported there was none! how can you sit at your computer and type lies like that??? The only ones that will verify is the US!!

          • Vicki

            eddie47d says:
“Dave H. “The drug Wars are creating a class of wealthy evil drug lords” …and that has what to do with the topic? It’s been Conservatives who have been pushing the drug wars for more than a half a century. How’s that working out Dave? ”

The good democrats have had FULL filibuster proof control of Congress and the Presidency for 2 years now. So why again is there still a drug war Eddie? I don’t think it is a problem with conservatives.

          • Vicki

            DaveH writes:
“Honest people obey rules, dishonest people don’t, so the only ones that have free hands when more rules are passed are the dishonest people. It amazes me that you Liberals are so clueless in that respect.”

It shouldn’t amaze you at all. They are the ones who constantly try to make gun control laws that limit the possession of arms (guns, knives, billy clubs etc) despite the obvious fact that people that don’t obey the law don’t. Hence the mugger is protected from being neutralized promptly at the scene of the crime.

          • hflashman

JoeH…you want to know the verification procedures under the new START Treaty? Easy to find and read…here’s something from one of the numerous websites having those procedures. this is the easiest list…others are more detailed.

The New START Treaty can be effectively verified with a verification regime that builds on lessons learned from 15 years of implementing START. The regime, which will be simpler and less costly to implement than START, provides for data exchange and notifications regarding strategic systems and facilities covered by the Treaty, two types of on-site inspections, exhibitions, and as a transparency measure provides for the exchange of telemetric information.

NATIONAL TECHNICAL MEANS (NTM) – The Treaty provides for the use of and non-interference with national technical means of verification (e.g. satellites). There are explicit provisions that prohibit interference with NTM and the use of concealment measures that may impede monitoring by NTM. As in the 1991 START Treaty, the prohibition against concealment measures does not apply to cover or concealment practices at ICBM bases or to the use of environmental shelters.
DATA EXCHANGE AND NOTIFICATIONS – The sides will exchange data on numbers, locations, and technical characteristics of weapons systems and facilities that are subject to the Treaty and will provide regular notifications and updates.
ON-SITE INSPECTIONS – The Treaty provides for 18 on-site inspections per year. There are two basic types of inspections. Type One inspections focus on sites with deployed and non-deployed strategic systems; Type Two inspections focus on sites with only non-deployed strategic systems. Permitted inspection activities include confirming the number of reentry vehicles on deployed ICBMs and deployed SLBMs, confirming numbers related to non-deployed launcher limits, counting nuclear weapons onboard or attached to deployed heavy bombers, confirming weapon system conversions or eliminations, and confirming facility eliminations. Each side is allowed to conduct ten Type One inspections and eight Type Two inspections annually.
UNIQUE IDENTIFIERS – Each ICBM, SLBM, and heavy bomber will be assigned a unique identifier (number), which will be included in the applicable notifications and may be confirmed during inspections.
TELEMETRIC INFORMATION – During ICBM and SLBM flight tests, measurements of various technical parameters are made to monitor missile performance. To enhance transparency and supplement verification provisions, the Parties have agreed to an annual exchange of telemetric information on a parity basis, for up to five ICBM and SLBM launches per year.
COMPLIANCE – The Treaty establishes the Bilateral Consultative Commission (BCC) as a compliance and implementation body that will meet at least twice each year, unless otherwise agreed. Compliance or implementation questions may be raised by either Party in the BCC.

          • DudeA

Well well well look whos talking. Allow an arms race and unmonitored nuclear weapons, production, and research…blah blah blah.

What the heck was Obama doing when North Korea tested missles and proliferated Iran with nuclear technology? Where was he I wonder when Iran brazenly refused to stop enrichment and now has almost gone on stream? Was he on vacation when China fired missles over California? What does he do about China and Russia buliding reactors for India and Pakistan for so called peaceful purposes? He just sits on his thumbs. The only arsenal he wants to reduce is ours – what a strange coincidence.

Your selective blindness is not just appalling, it is downright foolish.

          • eddie47d

Joe H;You are always saying that politicians never read the bills. So they must have overlooked this one also,as Flashman pointed out with facts. Something you sorely overlooked too.

          • eddie47d

Vickie; It’s always been a problem with the conservatives for at least 75 years. They keep increasing the insanity level and that is why we have the largest prison population in the world. It’s another conservative wedge issue like abortion or patriotism that has to be handled with kid gloves. If not, then you turn it against the other side (remember Willie Horton). Spread fear and you win elections and if you are not “tough” on “crime” you loose big time. Republicans don’t solve problems or even allow the other side to solve them. The drug wars/crime is an issue that they can use over and over again so they keep it from ever being solved.

          • Vicki

Eddie47d. If the drug war is such a conservative wedge issue why has the DEMOCRAT supermajority in the house and the filibuster proof senate not overthrown all those drug laws? Why is there still a war on (some) drugs? Democrats are NOT your friends. They are clearly part of the problem.

Abortion is not a wedge issue. It is a fundimental rights issue. Your creator gave you life. Humans intentionally killing you before you even see the light of day is just well. Murder.

      • Eric Bischoff

Excellent answer to the limited mind of Ben Crystal.

        • DaveH

As usual Personal Attacks absent the Facts.

          • Dogma-Free

haha…said the pot to the kettle…

The thing you boneheads from the right don’t seem to realize, is that Benny C. gets paid (and paid well, I’m sure) to distort the truth, and to misinform the already misinformed far-right loons who read his drivel.
It’s like Bill O’Reilly, who old Rupe pays extremely well to spread lies, distort the news, and to stir up hype, so that FAUX “news” can get high ratings, and rope in even more idiot viewers. The main difference, of course, is that Blustery Bill is far more intelligent than Ben Crystal is, had a much more prestigious education, and the real kicker – he knows what he’s doing is wrong, whereas I doubt Ben is smart enough to realize that.

I’m not sure which is worse though. Ben is unwittingly hurting his own country, and fellow countrymen…whereas O’Reilly is doing it *knowingly*…which, to me, is on par with treason. Then again, he is serving the ultra-rich…and that is true to the Republican party’s main goals…so I guess he’s able to justify what he does in his own mind that way, perhaps…?

But for the average American shlub to buy into that crap, is either just ignorant, or stupid, or treasonous, or a combination of all of those things.

Having said that, I find it funny that you, or Ben, or anyone else *who isn’t Russian*…thinks they can speak on behalf of Russians. Like saying that Russians don’t want peace…simply because you said so.

I’m so glad that Barack Hussein Obama was elected, not because he’s doing a super great job – which he isn’t, though he’s still doing better than Baby Bush did (which I realize isn’t saying much, since trained monkeys could have done better than that buffoon) – but rather because he is a negro…and that sickens all of you racist, white bigots to no end…and that makes me laugh, knowing just how much that twists your Republican/KKK knickers. So much so, that you have stooped to trying to associate him with ‘terrorists’(freedom fighters), socialists, Muslims, and gawd knows what else.

It’s fear. Plain and simple. And I suppose that’s understandable, since you were brought up in an environment of fear, through your religious upbringing. You have been conditioned to live in fear, and to not question those who claim to be ordained/led by the lord…as Baby Bush claimed to be.

Honestly though, you should be happy with Obama, since he went ahead with the Wall Street bailout that Bush and the Republicans were pushing for, and the ultra-rich were thankful for it.

I mean, I realize trying to get health-care for the lowly, pesky poor people of America is a bothersome thing, but that aside, he’s helping to push the right-wing agenda of his predecessor along on some fronts, so that can’t be all bad, can it…?

Come on, Dave…don’t be such a glass-is-half-empty kinda guy. Go on…turn that frown, upside down!

          • http://?? Joe H.

I could give a crap if Nobama is Black, white, pink, or purple!! I grew up with Blacks, ate meals with them, played ball with them, hell, I have a cousin that’s married to a black and I love their kid like my own. Nobummer is ruining this country one piece at a time!!! I ask again, who can show me the clause that says Russia HAS TO VERIFY that all you Nobama supporters claim there is?????

      • DaveH

Flashdunce says “society split along rigid economic and social strata?”.
And who helped to split that society, Flashdunce? Elitist Liberals of course. Thanks to them regulating the life out of potential entrepreneurs, it’s extremely difficult to rise economically from the lower class, so now we have the wealthy who earned it, the wealthy who made it with the Government’s help, the upper middle class that earned it by working hard, the upper middle class that earned it by working for Government (thanks to Liberals), the middle class who are struggling to survive, and the poor who have been relegated to a semi-permanent existence at the trough (thanks to Liberals).
And soon (again thanks to Liberals) we may reach the kind of equality that Flashdunce advocates like in Cuba where you have the class of the politically connected and the poor.

        • hflashman

Actually Dave..the rigidity of class and economic structure in our asoceity began in earnest with the Reagan attacks on the middle class… and were enhanced by the recent Bush II/GOP attacks and implementation of policy and law ensuring the rigidity and concentration of wealth and power.

But then, such realization requires intelligence. Something youlack. .

          • DaveH

No, they began, Flashdunce, when the Government first started stepping hard on the Constitution when Lincoln was president.
Why are you against Freedom, Flashdunce? Don’t you think the people are smart enough to take care of themselves? Don’t make the mistake of projecting your lack of abilities onto the rest of us.

          • DaveH

Ironically, as even a monkey on a keyboard can create real words occasionally, Flashdunce has hit the nail on the head accidentally. Yes, it is “policy and law” that separates the classes. So, as anybody with a modicum of intelligence and knowledge knows, the best way to assure the position of the classes is to build Government Bigger and Diminish Freedom.
Keep typing, Flashdunce, and in a few hundred years you might actually create the Great American Novel.

          • eddie47d

Dave H. It’s more like the Bilderbergs, etc. who are elitist Conservatives who want to control the masses (the rest of us). You are the one stirring the pot with your class divisions and smirky remarks. If you want a Monarchy of the wealthy ….well I think it’s here Dave. You are stroking that Monarchy like a flint over a fire, hoping it burns the rest of us while they take away their loot. Your sarcasm “that the liberals are coming, the liberals are coming” doesn’t make you a modern day Paul Revere by any stretch. It’s starting to stink like a pile of moldy laundry.

          • DaveH

Keep on spouting your mindless propaganda, Eddie, while the Rich grow richer and more powerful with the help of Liberals and their Big Government. Without Big Government and with Freedom in the Marketplace, the rich would have to actually produce products that were in demand by the consumer, and would actually have to compete against determined competitors. With the Protection of Big Government and their myriad regulatory hoops which the smaller businesses (poorer people) can’t afford, the Rich and their Big Businesses can thrive. And they thrive on politics rather than good honest hard work.
I know that falls on deaf ears with a Union member, because they also are protected from competition by their bought-and-paid-for Big Government.

          • DaveH
          • eddie47d

Speaking of mindless Dave are you still having a bad day? Who cares if the wealthy are Democrats,Republicans,Libertarians or Leprechauns. If we bend over they are not going to ask us which party we belong to. They are going to shaft us every which way but loose and maybe even on Sunday. The only difference is that the Leprechauns might have to jump up alittle higher.

          • DaveH

Obviously, Eddie, you care (unless somebody demonstrates how full of it you are), as you said “It’s more like the Bilderbergs, etc. who are elitist Conservatives who want to control the masses”.

It’s odd to me that Liberals are always whining about the Rich, but the Rich can’t make us do anything without the Force of Government. And you, Eddie, along with your Liberal buddies are all about Force. You can’t stand the thought of Free Markets, because then people would be able to forego buying your products, or forego paying your exhorbitant Union wages. You certainly exhibit no better behavior than those Rich people you whine about.

          • Vicki

            eddie47d says:
“Who cares if the wealthy are Democrats,Republicans,Libertarians or Leprechauns. If we bend over they are not going to ask us which party we belong to. They are going to shaft us every which way but loose and maybe even on Sunday. The only difference is that the Leprechauns might have to jump up a little higher.”

There is one little detail there eddie that you might consider. All those rich folk are going to shaft you only if you consent. However the government no longer cares about your consent and uses force all the time now to get its way. So if there are evil rich folk they would naturally use government to control you. So the solution is blindingly simple.

            Reduce the size of government.

          • DudeA

Yo Flahy Flash….you are nothing nut a dumbwit and a numbskull and a wood head who does not know the first thing about education or intelligence. You pass off insults and derogratory remarks on others as your opinon on the article and the topic in discussion. You better get yourself a decent education before you even start commenting – Oh i forgot…you being the idiot you are you can’t and won’t be able to.

            So long blockhead.

          • eddie47d

DudeA;Flashman is way ahead of you in that department

          • eddie47d

Yes Vickie and Dave even when the Conservatives control anything it is still the liberals fault. Nice try in playing the blame game. Next time try and be just a smidgen more honest. (I’m speaking of the Bilderbergs, etc)

          • Vicki

            eddie47d says:
“Yes Vickie and Dave even when the Conservatives control anything it is still the liberals fault.”

Odd that you would claim that. You seem to be of the liberal mindset so I don’t see why you would blame the liberals when the conservatives were in control. Though I did not see Democrats try very hard to block the Patriot Act.

eddie47d: “Next time try and be just a smidgen more honest. (I’m speaking of the Bilderbergs, etc)”

How so? Are there representatives from either party whose last name is Bilderberg? Or are you suggesting some vast conspiracy where our representatives that WE elected report only to some secret society?

Or are you suggesting that the vote is severely compromised?

      • RHSchumann

Congratulations, Flashman for an excellent reply. Of course your rational words are lost on these idiots.

        • DaveH

Idiots are a step above Ignorant Liberals.

      • Abe

Why would anyone want to agree with you? When someone attacks the person instead of the opinion they aired, one is sure to know they have no proper answer. By attacking Ben personally you how blown whatever cover of decency you had. You simply do not want to accept the fact that this treaty only binds Russia. What about all the other nuclear nations and the fringe lunatics that control them? Pakistan’s nukes, albeit their denial, could anytime be taken over by AQ or some xyz Jihad and how would START even start keping peace in such a scenario.

“START allows monitoring to begin again. It limits the numbers of nukes (how may does a nation need to blow up the world?).” Youve got that part right though. One is enough to start off WWIII. So START is doomed from the start. You can rationalize all you want and choose to remain naive or you can accept the facts.

      • Castaway

Hflashman I just got done shoveling out the barn and I surely am not happy that you are causing me to do it all over again. WOW! what a pile!

    • kate8

Mike – I think you nailed it with “kindred spirit”.

Obama’s rise was, in part, backed and funded by the Soviets. There is strong evidence of Soviet ties throughout his life.

He’s simply carrying out the job he was put there to do. I doubt whether he ever even gives what he’s doing much thought. He’s an automaton.

      • Doc Sarvis

        What credible evidence is there?

        • kate8

Doc – You wouldn’t consider any evidence as “credible” unless it came from some left-wing source, and that wouldn’t happen. There have been so many nefarious implications that the only possible explanation to its NOT being exposed publicly is that it’s being covered up at all levels.

Where there is smoke there is fire, and there is so much smoke that we’re all choking on it.

          Wise up. But you won’t.

          • usmadgirl

            Kate8,

Way to go! As usual, you are right on the mark!

        • hflashman

LOL..”strong evidence of Soviet ties…”. Now that’s a new one. Almost at the point where they’ll claim Michelle is actually a space alien from a far away solar system and that it’s all a plot to wipe ut humans and replant the earth with alien beings. Not quite there…but edging closer.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what this “strong evidence” is? Jeesh …

          • kate8

The evidence is hardly new, as it’s been around for a long time. It’s just that if it isn’t on the lamestream media, you don’t think it’s real.

Just keep living in your dreamworld, flash. You and your comrades. I don’t have time for your small-minded MSM parroting. You are simply tools for furthering the communist agenda, for bringing in the NWO, and there is no more time to wait around for you to figure it out. The country is circling the drain and you are still stuck on liberal talking points.

I do not care what you think, and I’m not going to bother to provide links for you. You will only continue to scoff, which only makes you look stupid, anyway. So knock yourself out. There are others who know these things, and it is to them I address my comments.

          • hflashman

Translation; Kate8 got caught….and can’t back up the outlandish claims she’s made. LOL

          • independant thinker

She learned the lesson well by reading your posts flashinthepan.

          • kate8

Exactly what I’d expect from you, flash.

      • eddie47d

Then the same could be said about the first Start Treaty, right?

    • EddieW

We are being prepared by the DHS for a Police State, and no freedoms!!
They now want to have their x-ray machines at ALL sporting events, Malls, government offices…because of terrorists? NO..to control YOU!!! The next big move will be Anti-Christian!! The Bible talks about the great Apostasy, and it’s coming soon, with a myarid of attacks against Christians…they will use any weapon they have especially lies!!!
      Watch for it!!!!!!!

    • Dan az

      To all;
Since treaties are compacts between/among ” the powers of the earth” of “separate and equal station” as stipulated in the Declaration of Independence, treaties may not be consummated with other than sovereign nations.

Consequently, for at least these two reasons — 1) because the U.S. Senate in 1945 ratified the United Nations (UN) Charter as a treaty and the UN is not a sovereign nation, and 2) because membership in the UN makes the U.S. inferior to the UN — U.S. “membership” in the United Nations is unconstitutional, FORBIDDEN, and thus declared null and void. Ditto for the World Court and the nebulous entanglements of the New World Order.

  • Mike H.

Again, the “great one” is going to “fundamentally change America.” This change that so many swooned over in the 2008 elections was undeclared then but is becoming more clear with every inept and dangerous move of this president and his minions in the beltway; that is destruction of America as we know it and replacing it with the United Socialist States of America.

This guy’s intellectual and common sense ineptitude makes me wonder how he ever got to be a professor in a law school; oh, wait… that’s right… it is a socialist law school! Silly me.

If “we the people” don’t take back our nation through our representatives (that means holding them ALL accountable for EVERYTHING that happens) we are responsible.

Looks like we had better start arming ourselves because our government surely is not going to protect us any longer; despite the constitution.

    • Joyce from Loris

Mike H, most of us have been armed A LONG TIME now. This isn’t the first incident that Obama has done that scared me to death. Thankfully, I am armed, but I also have my emergency supplies, and my long term plan in place for complete independence. This cat scared me when he was campaigning. I never could figure out how so many people fell for this guy. When I could not get ANY background info on him, other than what the MSM was spouting, I knew we were in trouble. The scary part is, now FOX NEWS is saying he will be hard to beat in 2012. What??? How can that be?

      • Doc Sarvis

To answer your last question; perhaps True Americans see how much our President has worked to bring our country out of a terrible economic situation (granted we are not out yet – but we are not spiraling downward as we were when he took office). He has improved our standing on many fronts dispite the slanderous things that are said about him.

        • Vigilant

With all due respect, Doc, Obama’s advantages will be:

          (1) the power of incumbency and name recognition
          (2) a growing number of indolent “have nots” (thanks to government making them dependent on government) who will vote selfishly to keep their handouts
          (3) a large number of blacks who will vote for him because he’s black
          (4) voter registration fraud
          (5) ballot box stuffing
          (6) new young voters fresh from university and high school socialist indoctrination courses
          (7) unions and trial lawyers who contribute heavily to him for paybacks
          (8) a lamestream media in the bag
          (9) Hispanics who favor illegal immigration and amnesty
          (10) the support of hard core statists like George Soros who fully understand and encourage the breakdown of our economy and government

          Need any more reasons?

          • Doc Sarvis

            Vigilant
Nice litany of tired false/unproven excuses for a conservative loss.

          • Vigilant

Brilliant reply. Try some facts next time.

        • Anne , Australia

Doc, Remember your clueless comment next year of 2011, when US unemployment reaches 18%, and your $$$ continues to slide to below our Australian dollar,( first time ever) by end of next year the American dollar will no longer be the currency the world trades in, China and Russia are already bypassing the US dollar, trading in their own currencies, Saudi Arabia is next …. your $ will be worth Jack sh*t…don’t forget to thank your financially brilliant” hardworking ” President when that happens! and things are gonna get worse, as in for the first time ever America will be a third world country and Obamas agenda will be complete, the destruction of America!

          • Doc Sarvis

            Anne, Australia,
Well America started out as not a country at all, then a third world country before that label existed, and built itself from there. I have pride in my country and know that this country of hard working people can build itself back from hard times. I see that we are better than we were when President Obama was sworn in as our President. Sure, we have a long way to go but that is an illustration of how far down we were at the beginning of 2008. It sounds like you love the idea of “the destruction of America” (your words).

          • Anne , Australia

Not to mention hyperinflation, a rise in the cost of non prescription over the counter medicines ex gratis new taxes levied by Obamacare, increase in fuel, and costs of utilities such as electricity, food costs set to soar and small business continuing to go bust due to gloomy sales..no manufacturing industry..yup, no downward spiral there!

          • Al Sieber

Anne, Australia, you’re right on the money, pardon the pun, it’s happening as we speak, they don’t have to fire a shot. just devalue our currency.

          • Anne , Australia

Doc, FYI, I love America and its people, and I pray for you all with all my heart, but way before you lot elected Obama I researched about his radical ties with Odinga of Kenya, also his connections with radicals in your country. Other countries were aware like Great Britain, there were factual documentaries of what was happening in Kenya with Odinga( backed by Obama) trying to undermine Kenyas Parliamentary political system, Obama was known in Kenya as Odingas puppet, he campaigned for the Muslim backed Odinga who had made a secret pact with the minority muslims to repress free speech , freedom of religion, to install Sharia Law and to make Islam the State religion…. then when America elected Obama aided and abetted by a dumbed down media, I was appalled. Unfortunately he has fulfilled every one of my dreaded expectations…but then, you live in a different world obviously, to the one most of us inhabit, the REAL world..you astound me with your lack of knowledge, you are obviously one of the many who voted for Obama .. and you and your ilk will bear the responsibility for the unhappy demise of America…

          • Doc Sarvis

            Anne, Australia
Yes, thank you, I do live in the REAL world.

As to your other rants, I think you need to be much more objective in your “research”. There is no credible proof to any of the claims you just made.

          • kate8

Anne, Austrailia – It is, indeed, appalling that, with all of what’s known about Obama’s communist roots, mentoring, backing and throughout his history, the Left stands in such denial of it having any influence over him.

It seems there has been a delusion cast over them that defies any rational explanation. We can’t even communicate with the Left. It’s as if the language has been confused, once again, as it was in the days of Nimrod.

We need to just forget about trying to reason with the Left and begin to move forward on our own. It’s futile to stand before a rabid animal and try to reason it out of eating you. What you do is assess your options and resources, and act quickly.

BTW, How are things going Downunder?

          • eddie47d

Anne and Kate; Liberals don’t accept everything as fact as most conservatives do. You Kate accepted everything Anne said without question and Anne everything you said about America could happen very easily to Australia. Some of what you mentioned is already happening. The world is more complex on financial issues than you apparently realize. (on top one day and hitting the bottom the next)

          • DaveH

Funny! Doc says “There is no credible proof to any of the claims you just made” and he knows that how?
And Eddie says “You Kate accepted everything Anne said without question” at the same time he is poo-pooing what Anne said without any contrary proof whatsoever to support his negative response.
As usual the Liberals use conjecture and ridicule as their weapons of choice.
Fortunately, the non-Zealots across the country can see the reality that the Liberals are creating, and all the Liberal personal attacks, and fabricated facts aren’t going to make that awareness of reality go away.
You are losing, Liberals, and you are losing because intelligent people can see through your childish manipulative substanceless comments.

          • eddie47d

Anne; This is for Dave H.’s benefit. I think you are aware of what you said but Dave needs it repeated. You will be affected by the change in the dollar also;over the counter drugs, yup(unless she buys them from Canada Dave);increase in fuel costs, yup;cost of electricity, yes sir;food, you betcha;and Australia isn’t known for it’s manufacturing so they may need a little more diversification. So yes they could have that downward spiral too,Dave. No conjecture,Dave. No “poo poohing” or “fabricated facts”,Dave. Are liberals loosing, Dave or is that you’re mind that you are loosing??

          • kate8

DaveH. – When I came back to this blog and began reading just more of the same idiocy from the left, I just decided that debating them is of no earthly use. They are hopelessly entrenched in their fascination with socialism and the promise of Utopia that they are completely blinded to reality.

With what I see coming, maybe even some of them will open their eyes soon. Then again…

          • DaveH

            Eddie,
You don’t have a clue, do you? As the dollar falls against the Australian Dollar (and it has been falling since Obama took office), they will be affected all right. They will be able to buy our goods more cheaply.

          • DaveH

            Kate8,
I suffer no delusions of changing the Liberal zealots. My goal is to draw them out into the light of day so that the fence-straddlers can see what Liberals are really like.
When I mention the Liberal commenters on this site to friends and relatives, the first thing they ask is “Why do Liberals comment on a site about Freedom?”. They know. But there are many out there who don’t know just how anti-Freedom Liberals are. My goal is to educate those people.

          • kate8

DaveH – And you do a very good job of it, too. You have far more patience than I.

            Keep up the good work.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            Anne,Austrailia,
You sound just like a lady I used to post with on another site. She too, did her due dilligence and investigated Nobama and the way things were going in this country. She was a true lady and loved this country as well even though she was from the U.K. We here in this country are in for a great awakening. Gasoline is at 3.08 here in northeast Ohio and rising, due to the falling dollar and the rising demand. If hyper inflation hits on top of that we are in for dire straights for sure. I’m saving all the silver I can and i’ll never have too much! I’m also buying up 9MM ammo as I suspect that crime is gonna go up as well!!

          • eddie47d

Dave H.; You act like education is a one way street and only the wise and wonderful Dave knows the right answers to life. You say “this is a site about freedom”. It has become more of a site where freedoms are stiffled and discouraged. Several here want to shut down “outside” opinions as enemies of America. Instead of embracing free speech and learning and seeing what is on the other side of the wall. You have done this yourself on several occasions. Yes,some of us have gotten an ear full of how Conservatives think and it’s not always in your favor. So you have a long way to go in you’re inconsistencies and personal attacks. (same with a few liberals here).Conservatism is not always flattering with some of the extreme comments I’ve heard and that is everyday. Conservatives have shot themselves in the foot and make the liberals look damn good. So chill out in your high and mighty opinions.

        • http://marcum@wildblue.net coal miner

          Doc,

          I agree.

        • DaveH

Take off your Liberal Blinders, Doc. When he took office, unemployment was 8%. It is now about 10%. That is what ‘was’. Anybody can say what ‘would have been’.

          • Anne , Australia

Yes, of course Doc. silly me !! theres no factual evidence of the political turmoil Odinga caused and still causes in Kenya, his ties to Obama( cousin) ..nnooo!! only BBC film footage, Kenyan newspapers( they write in ENGLISH you know) national Kenya TV , all of which record the events and Obamas visit during the election campaign, the muslim riots because Odinga lost, killing of Christians( Kenya is 90% Christian)burning alive a church filled with people seeking shelter from the riots, the written Pact muslims openly admit to signing with Odinga… ALL on film!! .yes, this is all FANTASY!! because you say so, and only YOUR world is real!! just let me guess, are you a Holocaust denier? no real evidence there either, is there…its all a huge conspiracy…

        • Dan az

Doc you know you cant keep blaming every one else without facts so I will give you the facts that you need and show everyone here you to can provide the facts!
          http://blog.heritage.org/2010/02/05/past-deficits-vs-obamas-deficits-in-pictures/

          • Dan az

Doc whats wrong not the facts that you wanted?Thats the problem with facts they just dont lie like some that I know!

        • aimhigh

          Doc,
I dont know where you ever heard that Obama has improved Americas standing Internationally..Maybe you think its in Europe? Last I checked Poland was in Europe, Polish people hate him as they fear he has left them defeenseless , not in England for the most part they think he and his Missis are so low class that they are to be pitied. They realize he is holding some long lost grudge against them..Not in Kenya because they believe he has disowned his roots??? Maybe in the West Indies….don’t think so either as they see Chaves making strides that could affect then especially since he is joining forces with Iran and their President the little hairy one. Look they respect O and America so much that they are building an alliance in this hemisphere..Right in your back yard and you think it just to make nice.
China in the East you say…they respect us…Don’t think so either…They believe he and the American people are so stupid that he has sold the whole Country right from under your noses and fools like you don’t even realize it and believe its peace and sunshine. They own your debt what happens when they say no more and call it in … LOL obama will say nope and they will say then we take and you cannot stop us as we own everything.
Maybe it is in Canada ,mmm don’t think so as they will have to deal with their HC as he will ruin what they trek across the border for the American Health Care. It could be Isreal.. but since O appears to be anti Israel… he is not so much likes by them. I know Saudi Arabia.. Sorry not them bcause they wanted him to take out Iran , which would have made them safer , he did not and that is why they and Turkey are attempting to arm and work together. . Ah it must be the Germans of Europe they think he is wonderful…. Not… they think he is the kid playing with his Dads/ scrap that, absente Daddy.. other persons Sports Car with no clue how to drive. He wants the Germans to foot the bill for the Greeks Liberal mistakes.
Back to Europe ..How about France… yep they like him all right their Prez thikks he is dumber than a box of rocks and the French citizens believe Michelle is a cow spending like their Marie they recognize these two all right… their words not mine.Could it be the Dutch… No not them either they are running away from everything obama thats why Geert Wilders is so popular… After reading the International news from all these countries name one country that views obama and America in a more favourable light than when Bush was president? Oh I forgot maybe the leader of Iran likes him because he stood by and ignored the arrests and assaults of the citizens when they were protesting the elections and last year …unfortunately geeze …the citizens hate him because he did everything to aid their oppressors.
Yep all is well you are being laughed at left right and center because of all the people who could be classified as having good leadership qualities and knowlwdge we elected this addled brain idiot on nothing other than he was of mixed race and skilled in using a tele prompter and could absolve you of your Racist guilt .
Nothing like getting Pee on and convincing yourself into believing it is rain. Keep Hoping and watch how this Racist, Colonialist A$$ Changes your country for the worst, every piece of crap country now believes it is ok to take shots at the Eagle..How sad death by a thousand cuts.

          • Al Sieber

            Very well put, aimhigh.

        • chrome lined

nah, hasn’t done anything to hurt America. What planet did you just arrive from that missed the nearly 4 TRILLION in U.S. dollars that this clown has levied upon your posterity? This clown has racked up more debt in 2 yrs than “W” did in 8, and you are somehow happy with this fact and think that the clown has a clue about pulling this economy out of the black hole it’s heading toward? You have got to be totally ignorant to believe for one second that there is any intention of putting America back in line with the Constitution from this jackass and his cronies.

      • hflashman

you are surprised that he’s projected to win in 2012? That you are surprised is surprising. He has done most, if not all, what he promised. He took this nation as it was headed towards the abyss of economic collapse and stabilized it. He saved hundreds of thousands of jobs AND the American auto industry, he began rebuilding the federal agency system which was riddled with and stank with the rot of cronyism, graft and corruption bult in by the GOP and Bush II regime. He took on the Far Left cintingent of his own party and spanked ‘em while steering a middle course. He wound down the war we shouldn’t have been in and ratcheted up the one we should have had done with but for Bush II wanting to enrich his Haliburton and wealthy compadres. He pushed through the most comprehensive change in our health system since the 1950′s….and manuvered it so that the Public Option is all but a given in a few years (Yea !)

He has accomplished a fairly significant amount of goals given what he inherited and given the GOP Party of “NO” was more concerned for political gains than for our National Security and health.

And th very fact that the lnatic fringe on both sides are against him is enough fact showing he is the best out there for the job of leading us into the 21st Century.

        • jeff

your and idiot. plain and simple.

        • dstk

          @ Doc Sarvis & hflashman
well said, great to see your comments and some real intelligence behind them…

          • David

So you also support the destruction of a free America? You wish to be told what you can and can’t do? You wish to work on the plantation with all of the other broken down folks too?

Your life must be really terrible now to want this. Maybe you should either get an education or continue on with your education so you may one day be able to prosper.

          • aimhigh

WOW Talk about 3 clueless people in a boat and not enough sense among them to save not even 1 of you…As you are destined to sink please take o with you it may be the only way the world will be rid of the ignorance.
Get rid of your blinders… look about you man, see the distruction, see how other countries are running away from America they don’t want to go down with you. Russia and China will trade between each other in their own or a new currency.Every one is shifting and moving to minimize the damage to that will come bout because of obamas ignorance and meddeling. The Americas dollar was the most valued and stable currency on planet Earth, with the arrival of obama it is being tossed on the manure pile. It is not Right or Left it is fact. Take a class in Economics, Trade, Commerce and Psycology then maybe you will understand cause, effects and why other people can see why under o that America is rapidly heading in the wrong directions.

          • Vicki

They sure like to pat each other on the back though :) Maybe they think that will validate their many many proofs by bald assertion.

Oh and lets see what promises Obama hasn’t kept.
            http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/rulings/promise-broken/

          • Vicki

And for even more fun lets look at the lies
            http://obamalies.net/list-of-lies

Of course he is a politician so having said so many lies is not really news.

          • Vicki

And cause I do occasionally take pity on the liberals here is a link to both Obama’s promises broken AND kept.

            http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

        • David

Flashpants, your talking points are weak at best. What part of your talking points are really good for what’s left of the working Americans? A whole lot of nothing. If he can’t legislate it; he gets his agenda through regulation. I am involved in the environmental side of industry and there will be no real high paying blue collar jobs soon if EPA, OSHA, etc are allowed to continue at this pace. White collars are next.

We can’t put everyone on indefinite unemployment for the votes…..the system obviously can’t handle it.

          • hflashman

If you’re on the environmental side of indutry..then you are well familiar with the number of jobs, the health benefits, the stability, and the technological progress which comes with saving our environment and making industry pay for their use of the Commons. And if you have no clue as to The Commons…or disagree and are supportive of subsidized welfare usage of such by industry…one has to question your expertise and commitment. Sounds like you’re employed as an anti enironment segment of industry rather than the environmental side of said.

          • David

You poor old brainwashed gov. worker. I said I work on the industry side and have been watching what unchecked regulation can do to all industries. If we can’t compete with currency floating, environmentally unregulated countries then the jobs will leave. Not all of us desire to be worker bees for big brother, nor do we plan to sit in our parent’s basement drawing unemployment checks.

This country isn’t split on have versus have nots as much as it is the union thug like minded versus the hard working entreprenuer spirit.

You can’t stand it that we are Independent and do not want or need your help. So you take away our ability instead. Remember Flashpants, there are a whole lot more of us than you and Doc.

          • hflashman

Psst…David, I don’t work for the government. I have a small business involved in manufacturing and natural resources. It’s small…employs 20-28 folks (depending upon season). Unionized.

So yes…I’ve done the numbers. I know how much I would save and be able to reallocate to growth if Public Health had been an option as originally put in the bill. I know about environmental regulations (especially being in Oregon…aka Paradise). And I know you are so full of BS one could fertilize all the crops in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and still have enough left over for the family garden,

          • David

Flashpants, there you go again with all your facts. I doubt you have sat with DOE and members of your house and senate to discuss what environmental regulation could do to your business.

Where is the protection he promised for our borders? GOV. JAN BREWER CAN ANSWER THAT ONE. Why is it we have a war along our entire Mexican border from Texas to California with the drug cartels? YOU CAN’T BLAME THAT ONE ON GEORGE W. Shuman, you have got to be kidding me. Obama has better than doubled the national debt guranteeing every new born child in this country financial bondage as soon as they leave the womb and has not stopped printing money. Do you even have a clue as to what that does to the value of the dollar? Obviously, you have been indoctrinated by the socialist institutions and will forever suffer from rectal opticity.

Good grief, Flashdunce. You call that a logical argument?
From Flashdunce “He took this nation as it was headed towards the abyss of economic collapse and stabilized it”. You can tell the future now? He stabilized it? From 8% unemployment to 10% and you call that stabilized? I guess I should be glad that you are admitting that it will stay bad (but stable) under Obama. But please hold your breath, Flashdunce, because it is far from over. It’s only been 2 years now and the economy still sucks, no matter how hard the Liberals try to convince people that we are doing nicely.
          Here’s so more reality:

It’s only been 2 years now and the economy still sucks, <— DaveH.

Glad to see you're finally realizing it has only been two years since the Great GOP Recession brought us to the edge of economic collapse. If you want to talk about Housing..perhaps you might want to explore the 800 lb goilla suppressing housing vaues..the large number of foreclosed hmes currently being kept off the market because of the supply/demand issues. 12 million units are held by the banks and kept off the market..yet the resistance by the GOP to implement housing policy to relieve this over supply has been unnoticed by FOX McNews and the naysayers to anything this admin attempts. Or perhaps we should speak about the stranglehold the Big Box Banks have on the financial arena…a stranglehold kept tight by GOP opposition to creating a smaller regional banking system instead of the oligarhcical system created by Bush II and his cronies. Or perhaps you want to talk about the TARP I giveaway by Bush II and paulsen who gave BILLIONS to the Bog Box banks wth no strings attached…and which the Bog Box Banks spent buying up competition…and lobbying against all efforts to force them to open up credit to small businesses and all but the super wealthy. Or perhaps you want to talk about the job killing efforts of the GOP as they continue to rape us and seek to create a super elite class ruling the rest of us. Fact is..if you still have a job it's probably because your sorry as* was saved by the policies and economic decision this admin has implemented …

And that Sparky is a fact. Deal with it.

No there has been too much liberal propaganda on TV,Radio, and Printed material. In addition to that the schools, and especially the universities have trained the young minds to embrace socialism and liberalism. We are now throwing out all religious items from courthouses, schools, and next our churches will be attacked. A young 12 year old boy cannot even mount a US flag to his bicycle without causing problems, that it might offend someone.

  • Tony in MO

Vladimir Putin (the REAL leader in Russia) and his puppet, Dmitri Medvedev, must be laughing their heads off, knowing how they snookered the anointed one. While Obama might be a great community organizer, he doesn’t know crap about national security and even less about the deviousness of the Russian Bear. Obama seems to think that his “Mr. Cool” persona can influence the Russians into cooperating with him; but they successfully slipped one over on him, to the detriment to the United States. Not only did they succeed in maintaining a huge advantage in numbers of tactical nukes over us, but the treaty makes no provisions to prohibit them from continuing to render aid and assistance to other rogue nations in developing their own nuclear ambitions. Instead of a Nobel prize, Obama should qualify, hands-down, for the Neville Chamberlain Sucker of the Year award.

    • kate8

Tony – I don’t think Obama has been snookered at all. I think he is in league with Putin. A Soviet plant.

Tony; The first Start Treaty was signed in July 31,1991 and ended Dec,5 2009.It worked very well and back then it took many months to implement after the signing. Was Reagan snookered by Gorbachev as you are implying about Obama? Many more nuclear war heads were disposed of in the first treaty so were you against it then? The tensions between Russia and the USA were far worse in 1991 and Reagan took a tremendous gamble back then. It paid off in spades and this new treaty will also be the right policy between our two nations.

      • DaveH

What are you talking about, Eddie? Reagan was out of office in 1989.

Historically, the Democratic Socialists have been consistent appeasers. Nothing new about that. Commonsense and the security of the United States have always taken a back seat–more like the trunk–to ideological purity and the mindless pursuit of kumbaya diplomacy. What is most worrisome is how this giveaway, aka treaty, jeopardizes our ability to fully deploy our ABM system in order to protect the homeland from rogue nuclear states. Why did this insanity happen again? Can we really blame our witless Democratic Socialist counterparts for doing what they’ve always done, i.e. being stupid and self-destructive. Not entirely. Afterall, ideology is their God. In truth, the blame lies squarely on the 52% of Americans who are appear to be incorrigibly and functionally illiterate as well as utterly uninformed. Our founders warned us about an inadequately eductated and unprincipled electorate; that a Constitutional Republic cannot survive such blindness and apathy.

As never before, we must strive to elect an America-First Prez in 2012. Someone who actually believes in our Constitution as well. I see no recourse if we are to commonsense and constitutional order in DC.

    • Bob Wire

“Can we really blame our witless Democratic Socialist counterparts for doing what they’ve always done, i.e. being stupid and self-destructive. Not entirely. After all, ideology is their God. I think it’s refer to as “worthy opposition” and this case you only lost with you McCain/Palin choice. It’s no more diabolical then that. You didn’t get your preference last general election. Get over it.

A lot of heavy hitters, both old and new, on both sides of the isle weighed in to support SALT, as it’s seen as an on going process to contain nuclear proliferation and the worries nuclear material might end up in the wrong hands.

Mr. Crystal has offered a lot of spin on the accounting, painting the Commander& Chief as a goose, leaving me to think he’s either in the wrong profession as a writer and needs more access to political process or he’s just a good writer. I wonder what credentials he has to offer such views on the matter of Nuclear containment policy?

As I understand it, AK’s,spit ball or rubber band shooters, assorted shoulder weapons are not the threat SALT was intended to address.

    • eddie47d

jdelaney3; You of so little faith in the American people. You are the one being dumbed down by Crystal and his spastic comments. Crystal implied that there will be “lasting peace in the world” Nobody said that on the left,so that is only words put into the minds of the naive (or for the Obama bashers). Achieving peace is a continuous process whether in your own family or between nations. Nothing instant or lasting about it unless you want it bad enough. Russia abided by the first Start Treaty so this continuation should be a positive move between the nations. Russia also was right in balking at the treaty when we wanted to put two missile defense systems in Eastern Europe aimed at them. We never would have agreed to any such system if it was put in our back yard. It’s too bad that Crystal can’t be honest and tell the whole story.

At some point, and probably sooner than later, it may be in America’s best interest to peacefully divide, this to avert the bloody dissolution I see coming. On one side the neo-Marxist Democratic Socialists and on the other a Constitutional Republic. Of course, within 10 years of this division, whether by peaceful or forceful means, the Socialist Americans, impoverished by their socialistic dependency will become the Republic’s new illegal aliens. But, this time illegal will be illegal. They will have no place to run but back to their socialist paradise.

  • Bob Wire

    Run Forest Run!

  • Charles

You speak of his ‘religious affiliations.’ I was just thinking this morning that this White House, knows very little about the Book this nation was built on. I do not believe as well the president is aware of the millions of Christians around the world who are praying for America and the leadership, and the accounting Mr. Obama, and all of us for that matter, will yet have to make.

  • Doc Sarvis

Mr. Crystal fails to mention that ALL current and former Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretaries of State, and Presidents (from both parties) wanted this treaty to pass/felt it was a necessary step. Nobody I know of is saying this will insure peace but it is a significant step in maintaining peace between our two countries, getting crucial information on Russia’s nuclear arcenal, and perhaps building some trust between our two nations. This in the place of total darkness which we have been operating in recently.

Mr. Crystal also states; “Carrying through on his campaign promise (for once), Obama managed to push the New START treaty through the just-ended lame-duck session of the Senate.” This treaty has been discussed for months. Also, America elected him for these campaign promises that he has kept; include lower taxes for the middle class, health care, START, combat troops out of Iraq, and others.

    • Vigilant

“Also, America elected him for these campaign promises that he has kept; include lower taxes for the middle class, health care, START, combat troops out of Iraq, and others.”

WHAT lower taxes for the middle class? All he did was temporariy extend the current rates. And you hide and watch: when health care kicks in (God forbid), plus cap and trade and deficit reduction, you really think taxes will go down?

As far as why he was elected, be honest, Doc; no one’s vote hinged on START treaty or health care. To be sure, a majority of Americans have been against it from the get go.

Regarding Iraq, painting it as the “unnecessary” war and claiming that Afghanistan was the “just” war was pure political hooey. What do we have left in Iraq now, about 50,000 troops? And most that left went to Afghanistan. It’s a cynical play, written by a playwrite who could care less about American lives. The Afghanistan war will NEVER be won by this country. Karzai and company are already negotiating for position when the Taliban and Iran end up calling the shots there.

          • Doc Sarvis

Health care was more than twice the issue in that election than illegal immigration, it was more of an issue than terrorism and tied with the war in Iraq. At that time, the economic crash had occurred and over half of the October/November respondents called the economy the major issue. Prior to that event health care was a major issue and remained so into the election.

You are so correct. The treaty was debated in the Senate for almost a year with a Republican Senator in the lead who probably from the beginning wanted the treaty to fail – and that after the Administration made all kinds of expensive concessions to the Republicans. And then, when Senator Kyle thought that there is not enough time he pulled the rug.
      Obama fooled him, didn’t he?

And we should have rather voted for McCain/Palin because McCain knows the issues almost as well as Palin, that the economy is “fundamentally sound” and she can see Russia from her house!

how about an accurate quote? I have visited all 57 states! and then, who could ever forget Mr. Joe Biden’s famous “Come on, stand up and take a bow”!! And then of course, there was Ms. Clintoons famous” I was for it before I was against it”! Ms. P-lousy’s ” We’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it”! I think the present ruling class has the past beat hands down when it comes to ignorant, brainless GAFFES!!!!

    • kate8

VanZorge – You are right about that. They have no awareness of the issues. They are enamored of the man. This is always how tyrants rise to power.

If a Lefty does attempt to debate an issue, all they do is parrot leftist slogans and talking points. It’s as if there is a direct feed from the mouths of the elites to their brains.

It is of no use to debate these people, anyway. Their brains are incapable of independent function. They are wired into the matrix.

      • eddie47d

The Right is always parroting their own talking points so what is really your point Kate 8.

        • kate8

You know, eddie, socialism and communism always use humanitarian and/or ecological issues to suck people in. After all, who can’t be for better healthcare, hope for children or cleaner air and water. Who can’t be for lifting people out of poverty or saving the Earth.
So people go along with it, willing to sacrifice some of their freedom in the interest of the greater good.

By the time everyone realizes that they’ve failed to deliver on their promises, that there is greater scarcity instead of increased abundance, that it’s illegal to do practically everything so it’s impossible to comply with all the laws….it’s too late. All there is is equal poverty and misery, except for the elite, of course. They continue to live in palatial grandeur off the backs of the poor masses.

Only by erasing history and destroying a nation’s moral fabric can people fall for this, so that’s what they do. And the cycle goes around again.

And so here we are, at the same place humanity has been time after time. And, as always, there are those who see and those who don’t.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

          • eddie47d

Good response but you are assuming the “other side” is wrong and you are right. It takes money/tax dollars to feed good intentions and some work out and some fail miserably. Life can be one big experiment in achieving anything. If it wasn’t we’d all be plowing behind that ol’ mule.

    • hflashman

OK van..pick one . Go ahead. facts are facts and you best have ‘em ready.

I do the same with the wacked conservative fringe. Dang near was attacked at a Tea Party event because I stated the same…and not one could come up with a sane cohesive arguement uless they used disrtions of fact as given by FOX McNews or thier own drug induced hallucinations. (my favorite was the ‘death clause’ in the Health bill …especially since we have almost the same in Oregon and Mitt supported similar panels for Mass. … now THAT was fun to see ‘em squirming on the floor ranting with foamy mouths…)

  • FlaJim

If we ever needed proof that the charlatan in the White House hated America and was conspiring to see its downfall, this is it. For once, he’s not exhibiting plain stupidity but absolute reckoning to see the downfall of our (not his) nation. He is an evil creature who must be stopped by any means available.

This treaty clearly gives the Russians the upper hand. Why did not one Republican oppose it? Am I missing something? I’m starting to think that maybe the conspiracy crowd could be on to something.

    • Donald

You are missing the endorswement of the treaty by all present and former military leaders and Secretaries of State and Defense in both parties. What don’t they understand that you do with your vast experience in these matters?

    • eddie47d

Flajim; Russia was disintegrating as a nation back in 1991 and within 6 months of the first Start Treaty. We allowed them to possess more weapons back then than us. So signing that first treaty was a dangerous move but the world became a better place because of it. So your fears are unfounded.

My,what a selective view of history.

It was the the military spending by Reagan that ensured the demise of the USSR, and that was considerably earlier than 1991. Somehow the left has a brain fart when it comes to acknowledging Reagan as the greatest US president of the 20th century. Oddly enough, even the moderate liberals have had to recognize Reagan’s greatness, but the far left, as usual, holds out against the crystal clear truth of history.

        • eddie47d

Oh,Please Vigilant I didn’t mean to get you gloating. There are several issues I didn’t care for with Reagan. I give him credit with taking on the Soviets as I said above. His Star Wars was a ploy and an expensive boondoggle, his actions in Lebonon, the U.S. bought and payed for atrocities in Latin America,Iran Contra,

          • Vigilant

As I said, the far left, as usual, holds out against the crystal clear truth of history.

          • eddie47d

You sound very selective about your history.

        • hflashman

Other than I trust Reagan is enjoying the heat where he’s at….and other than doing a good job of beginning the destruction of the social movement amongst the classes, and other than sending deficits soaring because the wealthy deserved more social welfare on the backs of American working families, other than moving Big Ag into replacing the family farm, entrenching Big oil as the bedrock of an insane energy policy, treasonous acts with Iran (as a candidate then the payoff as Pres.) and committing crimes in propping up the terrorist Contra’s in Central America…even discounting those facts, Reagan ranked the worst of any President in leading this nation…up until Bush II. Who by far stripped reagan of the worst and placed Ronnie into second worst of all time.

Any other view is simply hallucinations and ignorance of history.

          • Vigilant

I repeat, the far left, as usual, holds out against the crystal clear truth of history. Must really piss you socialists off that Reagan was and is so popular.

Why everyone is thinking Russia want to fight with US? We have more raw materials then US, more oil and gas so it is US who wants to take all of these at the end of the day. You have Russian Alaska and want more? Do not be crazy. The whole world now hate US, why is this? Think about this!

    • Vigilant

Why everyone is thinking Russia want to fight with US? We have more raw materials then US, more oil and gas so it is US who wants to take all of these at the end of the day. You have Russian Alaska and want more? Do not be crazy. The whole world now hate US, why is this? Think about this!

      Alex,

it has been abundantly clear for a long time that Russia is still the “Evil Empire” that Reagan claimed it to be. They do not expect to defeat us in a head to head confrontation on the battlefield, they don’t need to.

They have continued to thwart the US and Western Europe since the end of the Cold War. Thanks to European stupidity, Russia nows controls a vital part of the energy (gas & oil) pipelines that supply European needs. These can be cut off at any time as a form of blackmail.

Russia continues to support the growth of rogue regimes in the world. Without Russia, Iran would be finding it much more difficult to ahieve their nuclear aims in the Middle East. Russia has traditionally supported North Korea.

Russia and China obstinately and continually obstruct UN Security Council resolutions that condemn and impose sanctions upon dictatorships that work against freedom in this world.

After the fall of the USSR, Russia became a society run by criminals who gained their wealth by uncouth practices, including murder and intimidation. Putin has consolidated power to an extent that a free press no longer exists in Russia.

To think that the US wants to plunder Russia’s rich natural resources is just plain wrong. Russia is the new imperialist in the world.

To use your words, “Do not be crazy. The whole world [does not] hate Russia, why is this? Think about this!”

      • eddie47d

Th Capitalist system really went bonkers after it was allowed to operate in Russia. Crime and corruption soared.Imagine that!

        • Vigilant

If you think murder and intimidation are the hallmarks of Capitalism, you need to have your head examined.

The Communist regime had taken so much from the people (like the Dems are trying to do here) that only the criminal element that already existed had a chance of success. That’s not Capitalism, it’s gangsterism.

          • eddie47d

Why was it the Capitalist who jumped in with both feet and became greedier than the old communists? Nice try Vigilant. The news today brought that up. Mikhail Khodorkovsky was found guilty of stealing $30 Billion from Yukos oil company. Ivan Sekretarev and Sergey Ponomarev were also found to be guilty. I would like to think you can have Capitalists without greed but it seldom happens.

          • Vigilant

I repeat, that’s not Capitalism, it’s gangsterism. You seem to think that the definition of capitalism includes evrything bad and nothing good. Karl Marx is proud of you, you snivelling sycophant.

          • kate8

The problem is not with Capitalism. Our founders stated that this system would only work for a good and moral people.

The way to destroy Capitalism is to destroy the nation’s morality. When human decency and ethics erode, the free market turns to greed and corruption, right along with everything in that society. Then the leftys can proclaim that Capitalism doesn’t work.

In fact, when we were a nation of better character and finer values, it worked wonderfully. How do you think regular people built thriving businesses and bettered their quality of life beyond any other time? Where do you think came the concept of the American Dream, which has drawn millions of people to cross our borders in any way possible?

America has been destroyed by design. The game-plan, or war-plan, is an old one, written down for anyone to read who wants to read it. It is used time and again, and seems to always succeed, because of the ignorance of the people.

Everyone will see the truth of this in the coming months. No one will be able to say they weren’t warned.

          • eddie47d

Another good answer Kate 8,you are way ahead of Vigilant and without the mental slander that he has been using.

If you don’t have the cahones to make the type of government you want work in your country, then don’t come here and complain about people that have made it work for 200+ years. It’s only the last 40 years that it has truly gotten unbearable!!

  • Disabled Veteran Brian

Planned from his start, Mr. Obama is doing his best to force the US to its knees, either from economic bankruptcy or military defeat. Weakening our country from every direction, he hopes to leave a shattered economy, a cross eyed and hand tied military, and a country so divided that no effective improvement can be had. His one term will leave us severely impaired to buy what we need, defend friends or ourselves, or produce what we must have. Traitor is too weak a word.

    • Anne , Australia

Brian, I think you covered it all well….shattered economy,a confused hand tied military, a country divided, non productive, unable to supply its own needs…a couple of other things can be added to the list…An undermined Homeland Security, a country religiously divided( due to muslim immigration ) becoming increasingly radicalised( eg..Islam) leading to greater civil unrest, bombings, terrorist threats,as in contamination of water and food supplies, jihad by forest fires,(already happening in Europe) etc loss of freedom of speech( truth is the new “hate speech”)control of the blogosphere currently about to be regulated by the FCC, Obama thus BYPASSING the will of the people and the Constitution, two more years under Obama America will be unrecognisable..unfortunately as America goes down,so do US allies and the West.. the balance of power will be with the bullyboy dictator nations, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea.. not a good prognosis

  • TIME

Ok, So lets see, we have a new treaty, Ok so whats it really all about?

It seems to me that no matter what is signed into law, and or agreed on there are “TWO Sides” to it, strange how so many miss this minor detail.
First off is it possible that we will have a War with Russia in any form?
**If you can really answer (yes) to this question, then you must ask why is that?
Has there been any reason to think that we face a war with Russia on any scale, as in “who would gain” from such a war, and “what would that gain be?”

Next we have to ask will we start a war with Russia? And if so why?

So let me just say this, I am sure many will not agree but be that as it may heres a thought thats not in a box.
** This is a waste of time issue, a waste of money issue, and what can only be noted as a “WHO’S getteing paid off” issue.
    Where’s the money?

The obvious facts are that as far as a Nuclear war with Russia it’s possible but; highly unlikely as in the odds would be really low about a 1 in 10000000000 trillon chance of such ever coming about.

Ever met a Russian? I am talking about the folks that make up the mass amounts of the people in Russia, well guess what folks they want to be just like YOU!
They Love everything USA, I don’t care what it is, they love it, the idea of FREEDOM to come and go they crave, a cheese buger, a pair of Blue Jeans, a Corvette, a Les Paul Guitar, a crazy beach pad, can you dig it.

Ok so now lets look at the LEADERS of all Countries, what have we there?
Can you say a mixed bag of 100% total WackO’s who are all hell bent of “GREED, LUST for POWER” and could care less about the people whom they lead over?
Did you really elect them? Or were you CONNED in to thinking they were just LIKE YOU?

That should be where your questions are pointed,
    Who really runs the show?
    Whats the game plan?
How will this work in their favor?
    Where’s the MONEY?
    Who gets the MONEY?
    Who gets more Power?
Who is it thats creating issues where there are non?

People YOU stand a better chance of winning the Mega Lotto when its $1 Trillion Dollars than you stand of having any Nuclear war with Russia, and for that fact even China.

Now ask why was such a treaty needed again???????????????

“The Mind is like a Parachute, it has to be OPEN to WORK.”

    • DaveH

      The motivation for leadership:
      http://www.whale.to/b/callahan1.html

      • DaveH

I think we should arm ourselves to the teeth. And Butt Out of other countries business. Don’t prop up the failures (especially with money from unwilling donors) so they can keep spreading their poison. Let them face the results of their own misguided policies.
I wish there was some way we could do that with Liberals. They are all talk. If only we could isolate them and let them sink or swim of their own volition. California would be a good example, if we could just keep the Federal Government from bailing them out at the expense of the States that did it right. The only way Liberals can succeed is by forcibly taking what other people have earned. They are all about Force and Theft. Without that they would perish quickly under the weight of their misguided policies.
I wonder how tortured their minds must be to, on one hand, denigrate Slave Ownership, but on the other hand support enslaving their fellow citizens? Or to rant about the oppression of Religion, then turn around and oppress Religion? Or to rant about the destruction of the environment by the Oil companies, then turn around and support those garish Wind Generators which blight our landscape and aren’t even energy efficient? Or to complain about our energy wasting, but turn a blind eye to their fellow Rich Liberals wastefully flying around the country in their Jet Airplanes?
It must be a terrible burdon to need to rationalize all that hypocrisy.

        • eddie47d

So you are so enslaved Dave H.!?!Sure some taxes are extreme yet you benefit from them like everyone else. Go live in a cave and become a hermit and avoid all the unpleasantries of life. I love how you atheists slam liberals as attacking religion. I know a few liberals who believe in God and conservatives like you who don’t So everyone isn’t marching to the same tune so why do you have a problem with that? Wind Generators aren’t anymore “garnish” than drilling platforms which “blight” our landscape. How lame of you and your wicked assumptions. Wind Generators do just fine if built in the right areas. Early ranchers used windmills to pump water and the county next to ours has 15,000 active oil derricks working as I write this. I hate to tell you Dave but very few of us (including you) can stop the rich liberals or rich conservatives from flying around to get their business done. That is a fact of life, but we’ll keep trying; maybe you can offer some suggestions to stop their waste and arrogance.

          • DaveH

We went to a family reunion in missouri Last summer and on the way out there we passed a line of those wind mills and yes indeed, they were eyesores out on valuable farm land!!! They were huge towers with propellers on them that looked like crap and stretched as far as the eye could see!

          • eddie47d

Dave; I’m way ahead of you in intelligent answers, and Joe at least the farmers can still farm the land below the windmills unlike with oil platforms where the land is contaminated and useless. So think for a change before you jump on the Dave H. bandwagon.

USA has more oil and natural resources to use than Russia, and the middle east put together. The problem, why we sit on our enviormental a$$es and do nothing, is green envioro loon nuts. They think USA will save the planet. We idle millions of acres of farm land that used grow and we shipped wheat and grain all over the world. What does it produce now, weeds, wildlife, weird Os, and costs the taxpayers billions for over 3 decades and still is. Now the National game Fish and Parks is going to buy up and idle several more million acres in the Dakota and Monatana, for ducks, what stupidity. You also forgot California was once owned by Russia. As for the world hating USA, well they can just go f–k themselves, most of Americans don’t care. When things go to s–t, USA is who gets called. If Patton wpuld have been given fuel and been allowed to proceed Russia would have been a more open land mass and millions of people would not have dies. • RHSchumann

All during the Cold War, The Soviets and the USA kept adding nuclear weapons to their arsenal to maintain a balance of power between the two super powers.
One super power is no more and therefore there is no longer any justification to maintain huge piles of nuclear warheads that are expensive to maintain and, especially in the case of Russia, are subject to fall into the wrong hands. It therefore makes imminenet sense to cut down on the stock piles. President Reagan and all after him understood this and therefore entered into treaties with the Soviets and later the Russians to reduce the stock piles. The Russians have honored all treaties. New Start is nothing but the next step and, hopefully, there will be many more to come. I cannot verify whether the Russians have ten times the tactical war heads that we have. Even if they do, why should it bother us? Tactical nukes have a limited range and Russia is in no position to threaten us with them, even if they want to do so. OK, Russia is anything but a free and democratic country but threatening them with war is not the way to bring them closer to our standards.
And how would we use nuclear warheads, strategic or tactical, to counter today’s threats? Nuke Saudi Arabia when their citizens fly planes into our buildings? There is no country threatening us right now. All terrorists act on their own though many receive support from certain countries. Are we willing to use nuclear bombs on any country because their government supports terrorists? Even President Bush II didn’t do so despite having many advisors who may well have wanted to drop a nuke here and there.
Reading many of the comments above it is obvious that most readers of Livingston’s publication have an irrational hatred against President Obama and cannot think clearly when it comes to anything he does. Most true Conservatives of previous admionistrations have gone on record to support New Start. Obviously you don’t trust them either.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      RH,
One thing you leave out of your history. Reagan said trust, but VERIFY!! There is no verification clause in the treaty. There WAS in Salt 1!!!

      • JeffH

Joe H., from what I can ascertain, there are at least six shortcomings with the New START’s verification regime:

        (1) The elimination of START’s verification measures for monitoring mobile ICBMs;
        (2) The weakening of the exchange provisions for missile telemetry;
        (3) Reductions in the number and overall effectiveness of inspections;
        (4) Deficiencies in the verification regime’s ability to confirm the number of deployed ICBM and SLBM warheads;
        (5) Elimination of the limits on the size and power of ballistic missiles, which constrain the maximum number of warheads that can be carried on a missile;
        (6) Weaker procedural requirements for eliminating strategic nuclear delivery vehicles and launchers.

Secretary Tauscher succinctly said we believe that we have enough “enhanced transparency” and supplemental verification that will give us everything that we need. And so we’re confident that we will be able to have what we need.
There is that TRANSPARENCY word again…we all know what transparency means in the political arena…SQUAT!

  • hundabuxt

We stink at negotiating. We’re impatient and tend to give more than we get. Russia is our enemy and always will be and if they agree to anything its because they won on balance. China is the rising power that even Russia respects and fears and the biggest potential threat and likely the only thing holding them back is the US debt they hold, which essentually enslaves us to them thanks to a malfeasant US government. Going to war with nucular weapons will be foolish but politicians are not immune to foolishness. We’ve come very close before.

You’re educating the American people a little late, aren’t you? Isn’t this article something like locking the barn door after the horse has escaped? Why haven’t you been traveling the country and imparting this knowledge to the American people, as well as their representatives in the Senate, for it seems they are either traitors are ignorant buffoons, one of the two. With Obama’s and the Democrats’ repeal of ‘DADT’, our military will be decimated within the next two years, and now Obama and the Senate have successfully disarmed us with this ‘START II Treaty’, and because of these two Obama promised changes the United States now finds itself in dire danger. Thanks for letting us know after the fact. May God please help us, if He’s not mad with us for not standing up for his precepts, for these things may lead to His retribution for us. So thank you Obama, Democrats, and ACLU.

I would recommend to all to study Ezekial 38 & 39. When you read it remember that the Magogites settled in the land that is now Russia. They will be drawn into a battle along with Persia which is Iran and many other nations. They will go to destroy Israel but Our Lord will turn the tables on them and they will be destroyed on the plains of Israel. The verse that has bothered me for at least 35 years is Ezekial 39:6 where it rains fire on Magog ( Russia) and those that dwell carelessly on the Isles or coastland which I tend to believe is the U.S. If Russia is defeated in Israel (and they will be), who do they hate almost as much as Israel. It is my opinion based on my study of God and His Word that Israel is safer than America. TURNING AGAINST ISRAEL IS THE GREATEST MISTAKE WE ARE MAKING IN FOREIGN POLICY. THE START TREATY APPEASEMENT WILL ONLY HASTEN THE DAY OF RECKONING.

Nuclear defense shelters have just increased to a 10% likelhood of a wise investment in my opinion, not as insurance but neccesity, because of this treaty and the ignorant pols or complicit traitors for any portion of the USA. Those battlefield tactical nukes alone, whether facing Alaska or the Gulf Coast, could turn huge sections of the USA into a third world country with an EMP before anyone at the UN can determine who is to blame, and anyone at the White House can decide who to send a sternly worded letter to. If you build a shelter, remember it needs two points of access, air filtration, safe drinking water storage and should double as a root cellar/storm shelter.

  • Bealzybub

    Wow. How about some facts?

    1. China and Russia no longer care to war with the USA, they are sitting back contently watching us tear ourselves apart from the inside out.

    2. The government handing out trillions of dollars in taxpayer money to save business’s that should fail from failing is no kind of achievement whatsoever.

    3. The reason we are where we are today is a direct result of failed social experiments.

    4. They are all (mostly all) crooks, dems and repubs alike who are not looking out for our best interests.

    5. The current administration has been ignoring the basic problem here in this country right now, unemployement. With a real unemployement rate of about 18% its my belief thats where the total focus of attention should be.

    6. The federal gov is spending money at a rate 6 times faster than they are bringing it in.

    7. Congress under Pelosi, by their own admission “passed laws without reading them so they could then find out what was written in the law”.

    Those are facts.

As I read through here I’m simply amazed. Those here against the START treaty are accused of “feverishly desiring an arms race” between Russia and the USA. Come on man, whatdya been freeze dried or doing hard time? There hasnt been an arms race since the wall went down. How would not ratifying the START treaty create a new arms race? The ONLY people on the face of this planet that are involved in ANY type of arms race whatsoever are those unnaffected by the treaty.

There is no way any government or country in the world could withstand that country or government being run like the USA is being run right now.

So, for all of you offended by these truths, before chastizing me for posting facts read through what I wrote. If I didnt write it, I didnt say it. The facts as I posted them give no indicators of what “you think” I might want or not want.

China is mad at the west as we are going to dump them. All the western powers are turning to India as a source of cheap labour. Soon WallMart will be stocking it’s shelves with junk made in India.

India is no longer under the Russian’s influence and has historicaly been an enemy of China. Watch Australia go down the tubes as soon as China quits buying it’s resources.

    • Vigilant

Dave, is it a matter of us dumping China or China dumping us?

      • Dave

        Vigilant,
China is in serious trouble, they have built cities to hold over 1 million people that are totaly uninhabited. Google Ghost cities of China and see what comes up. Everyone thinks the housing bubble only happened in the US. Europe and China have been hit as hard or worse than the USA.

The problem in China is the government has to keep the construction boom going or there is a real posability of a revolution. It is ridiculous to think of China closing its trade with the west. They need us a heck of a lot more than we need them.

  • Jeremy Leochner

While I certainly agree that the new start treaty dosent fix everything, I must say I disagree with Mr Crystal on the threat of Russia and other nuclear countries. I must point out to him that every country and its leaders including Russia and N Korea have a self preservation mechanism. With even a small nuclear arsnel the United States could do untold amounts of damage to anyone brazen enough to threaten us much less if that country should threaten with a nuclear weapon. While I certainly dont like the idea of only the United States lessing its arsenal I still want to make the most of it. We can set an example to try and convince other countries it is in their best intrest and in the intrest of self preservation to get rid of nuclear weapons. I assure Mr Crystal I have no desire to see the United States at a disadvantage but I always remember the saying of Abraham Lincoln that all the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined with all the treasure of the earth in their military chest and a Buonaparte for a commander could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge Mts in a trial of a thousand years. No matter what threat may come I believe the United States need not be overwhelemed or concerned. If any country dare threaten us so long as we have an arsenl of any kind much less a nuclear arsenel it will be at their own peril. Thats why I think a step towards fewer weapons and greater peace is a good start. Not a bad one.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Jeremy,
The only problem with that quote by Mr Lincoln is he had never seen the terror of a nuclear weapon nor it’s aftermath!!

      • Jeremy Leochner

Your right Joe. But I think when it comes to the United States I think his statment is universal. Tring to not be to preachy but from what i’ve read throughout history republics have never fallen to outside threats unless they first collapse from within. I believe as long as the people hold strong to their faith in the republic Mr Lincolns quote will hold true. I dont know if it will but im hoping for the best.

  • Bealzybub

    More facts………..

    1. The only way other either prosperous or emerging economies can insulate themselves from the affects of the USA crashing is by eliminating the US dollar as the worlds reserve currency. If we continue on our wreckless path that will soon come about. When that happens we will be in deep doodoo.

    2. As witnessed here in this very thread “polarization” is very prevelant. Polarization leads to ideology.

It is my feeling that we have been lead down that path as a result of having to “vote for the lesser of two evils” when it comes to electing our representatives to the federal government. Since there really hasnt been “a good candidate” that is dedicated to protecting and preserving the rights of the citizens of the United States (at least in my lifetime) we tend to vote for whoever “tells us what we want to hear”, sound familiar? “Utopia” will never be. Those who work for what they have know this. Those that feel they deserve handouts will soon find this out.

    • Dave

      Beazlybub,

Perhaps the central banks wish to deliberately collapse the US dollar and all currencies that are fractional reserve? It sure seems like that is the ultimate fate of fiat money. I don’t think they care what “dollars” the world uses as long as they, the central banks, control them.

Most of the US dollars are held outside the country due to the fact that it is the global reserve currency. If it were not for that fact the huge amount of dollars the Fed is creating would cause enormous inflation in the US. Instead it is causing inflation in China.

      • Bealzybub

Dave said; “I don’t think they care what “dollars” the world uses as long as they, the central banks, control them.”

This is true, my over riding point being that if the world drops the “US dollar” as the worlds reserve currency we will see inflation in the USA not unlike what happened in Argentina. The biggest problem is that there are to many here (in the USA) that believe “since its never happened here it just wont happen”, classic denial. Additional that has been the scuttlebutt about creating a “one world currency”. Its not REALLY about having just one currency, its about booting the US dollar as the reserve currency. Theres a lot to worry about here and when it happens I’m sorry I wont have time to come here and tell those in current denial that I told them so.

Eddie says; “Who is that “no other country”?” No other country is just what it says. You havent read the treaty? While there is an “agreement” that Russia should reduce its nuclear arsenal there are no provisions in the treaty that prevents Russia from creating “missile shield” type defenses as there are towards the USA.

Really? You’re protesting but havent read the text?

  • Bealzybub

    In response to Jeremy.

In this current day and age it would be of no benefit to anyone involved to engage in any type of global thermo nuclear war. Only those that realize this would partake. At that point it becomes a matter of revenge, a craving for attention or a sincere hatred of those being attacked. Limiting our DEFENSE as the START treaty does is, IMHO, simply not a good idea. Wait, maybe someone here can explain to me how limiting our capability to defend against a rogue nation bent on those aspects above is a good idea? Sure we have enough nukes to wipe them off the map “after the fact” but 1. we’d never do that and 2. it would be after we lost a few million people.

So, you START treaty proponents, explain to me why its such an overwhelmingly good deal that we limit our defense capabilities but no other country does.

    • eddie47d

Who is that “no other country”? Russia’s defenses are also being downgraded in numbers. No other country has the capacity of either the USA or Russia so that is where the burden lies. Start Two isn’t the end of negotiations with Russia or any other country. Every nation should have it’s ability to destroy limited and that will require many more treaties and probably many more years.

    • Jeremy Leochner

Bealzybub: The purpose of this is to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world. Russia is made to lessen its arsenel to. And in response to your bottom question. Your right if someone attacked us it would be tragic. But look at what happened in Afganistan in the wake of 9/11. That was in response to a terrorist attack. If a nation dared attack us with a nuclear weapon, countless people would become bloodthristy. We would demand to drop a bomb on them and if we didnt do that we would at the very least invade and crush them. No matter how crazy or rogue a nation is it still has self preservation as a goal. The nation does not want to be annihalated. Yes perhaps some psychotic leader may come along who violates that principle. But I dont think basing our foriegn policy and security decisions on the possibility of a crazed madman attacking with a nuclear bomb is a reasonable or realistic option. We must be vigile and do our best to make sure no such psychotic leader can get weapons but then thats part of this treaty. I think perhaps we could start a train of treaties like this among many nations of the world. Perhaps we can reduce the overall number of nuclear weapons in the world, not just our own. Then maybe we wouldnt feel as threatened and wouldnt feel afraid to reach out in peace to other countries.

  • http://none Mike

Good Looks like I got it off on the right foot again. :) Although I see it got branched out into the economy and everywhere else while I was reading down the comments.

You all seem to have missed my second point in my objection to this treaty entirely. The main goal of Russia in all of this is the stopping of our missel defence system research. They knew from the first time we used the patriot system we had the jump on them in this. They have scrambled all their resources to just catch up. But they also knew if we had this tec in the field we probly had better in developement.

Didnt you notice how hard they objected when we offered this same tec to defend NATO?No that seems to have been glossed over folks. My saying that they had found a kindred spirit in Obama is this. Obama even though he was not born during the time of the peace movement is still a product of it. He carries on the same ideas of that age through his influnces. This makes him not evile but Naive. I think he fully believs he is supporting a peace movement. When in fact he is playing into the hands of countries like China and Russia.Mike L.

the liberals writing here are the same ones that crawled underneath their desk in grammar school when the commies were trying to scare the us into capitulating to the ussr with the threat of nuclear bombs. there’s little danger of either the u.s. or russia using a bomb against each other, however, russia doesn’t want her neighbors enjoying the missle defense shield and they don’t want to be in the position of us protecting ourselve from their missles, nor does china. these people wanting this treaty are the liberal do gooders who think if we disarm everyone will follow suit, wrong, ignorance!! our leader barry doesn’t have a clue about any of this so he’s not really to blame, blame the liberal communist democrats. they have no way of determining if russia is cutting back her arsenal, they are happy to trust these people like they always have and russia has always lied to us. barry has been busy under instructions from his masters, in destroying our technology, nasa, missle defense, etc. typical democratic policies. then when we get hit it will be a major catastrophe. the missile cut back means nothing, it’s in the fine print and missle defense where we get the shaft.

What concerns me the most in all of this is that there exists a very real threat of nuclear terrorism. 95% of the world’s nuclear weapons are owned by Russia and America. We’ve known for years, Russia’s ability to keep its nuclear material under lock and key hardly inspires confidence. Personnel are untrustworthy, corruption is rife, and nuclear material is unaccounted for. How much Russian nuclear material will move through the black market into terrorist hands?

Al-Qaeda is hell bent on getting a nuclear weapon, by hook or by crook and sadly, that might be easier than we’d like to think. In January, a nuclear air base in Belgium—a major NATO partner—was breached by anti-nuclear activists. They spent over an hour in the base before they were detected. If they can do it, so can terrorists.
Will there be rigorous verification measures so the American hand can see what the Russian hand is doing, and vice versa or will it be nothing but smoke and mirrors?

The United States and Russia will still possess more weapons than the rest of the world combined. Will the new treaty provides security for our allies, while assuring a credible deterrent against Russia’s weapons and Iran’s ambitions?

    • http://?? Joe H.

      JeffH,
The security of the United States in their ability to keep nuclear material under lock and key doesn’t inspire confidence either. I read a report that about 16 ounces of spent nuclear material that could be used to make a dirty bomb comes up missing and unaccounted for each and every year!!! That means in the last ten years TEN POUNDS of nuclear material has been loose in the country!!! now with our system and double and triple checks how much do you think has come up missing in the Russian graft riddled system in the last ten years??? Feel real safe with this new treaty, NOW????

  • chuckb

    jeffh

what i have read about the treaty, there is no way we can confirm russia is abiding by it. the bad part is we cannot protect our allies with the missile shield or russia backs out. sounds like typical do gooder democratic cave in politics

Now, President Obama’s administration and this liberal Congress are trying to push through a new arms reduction treaty which seeks to lower the number of strategic nuclear weapons in both nations. However, it states clearly in its preamble that U.S. missile defenses will be linked to offensive weapons. And Russia has stated clearly that they will walk away from the treaty if the U.S. continues to build up our missile defenses around the world that protect Americans and our allies.

When Secretary Clinton was asked to provide the full treaty negotiating record to Senators, for full transparency of U.S. compromises, Secretary Clinton refused, stating that the treaty negotiating record had not been provided all the way back to President Washington. Senator Kerry corrected her testimony, pointing out that the full negotiating record had been provided to the committee as recently as the INF Treaty under President Reagan.

The U.S. should not sign a treaty that weakens our ability to protect Americans and our allies from nuclear weapons. While our missile defense systems are currently engineered to deter threats from rogue nations like Iran and Syria, our goal should be to continue to improve and expand those defenses to protect our people from any nuclear threats.

As President Reagan said when addressing the nation in 1983 on the proposed Strategic Defense Initiative (which would later be known as “Star Wars”),

  • http://com i41

When our Minute Men missles were being put in I was a 2 grader and a I watched as we negoiated the destruction of them in the early and mid 90s. Which is when Russia got to keep their stock piles. • http://www.TomBlairEA.com Thomas Avery Blair EA

I see in this “New Start” treaty with Russia as a replay of the same story line as that of the European settler making treaties with the native Americans. A story line like this might serve to illustrate.

European settler: “You must give up all your modern gun powder related weaponry bought or stolen from we Europeans, and in return we will stop manufacturing bows and arrows, and even iron tomahawks. However, you may make all the wooden catapults you may wish to build.”

Native American: “What is a catapult and how are such weapons built?”

European settler: “It’s kind of like a cannon, only there is no gunpowder, and it can only throw stones…but no metal balls like a cannon.”

Native American: “So what do we really get if we sign this treaty right now.”

European settler: “You and your people get to live in peace and harmony upon your own land…at least until we finish building better cannons and machine guns…and then we’ll have to write new treaties with you in return for more land and further promises not to fire cannons or machine guns at you…and you and your people get to live in peace and harmony upon your own land…until we complete our fully automated cobalt bomb delivery and eye-in-the-sky GPS systems…who knows what might happen then…but in the meantime, you and your people get to live in peace and harmony upon your own land…until we say different.”

Native American: “This sounds like a no-win situation for myself, my family, my tribe and my people, and besides, how are we to know you will keep this treaty?

European settler: “Because we have always dealt with the Native American nations fairly and with respect…and because your forefathers had really terrible immigration laws and could not withstand the power of the ballot, the bullet, the cannon or the US congress…and because while you were always intent upon agreeing to sign and abide with the treaties, we were building ever-more-powerful weapons and burnt down all the trees so you couldn’t build catapults!

Native American: “Before we sign this next treaty, just exactly who is B.H. Obama?”

European settler: “He is our version of “The Great White Father” who sold you down the river.”

…of coarse you would love it Joe. That was our forefathers who broke treaties with the Indians, one after the other. The same forefathers that get bragged up in our history books. So are these forefathers lying scum or great heros? Blairs “story” was a waste of space and extremely lame.

    Attention

[edit] Hitler’s public reaction to atheismHitler often associated atheism with Germany’s communist enemy.[52] Hitler stated in a speech to the Stuttgart February 15, 1933: “Today they say that Christianity is in danger, that the Catholic faith is threatened. My reply to them is: for the time being, Christians and not international atheists are now standing at Germany’s fore. I am not merely talking about Christianity; I confess that I will never ally myself with the parties which aim to destroy Christianity. Fourteen years they have gone arm in arm with atheism. At no time was greater damage ever done to Christianity than in those years when the Christian parties ruled side by side with those who denied the very existence of God. Germany’s entire cultural life was shattered and contaminated in this period. It shall be our task to burn out these manifestations of degeneracy in literature, theater, schools, and the press—that is, in our entire culture—and to eliminate the poison which has been permeating every facet of our lives for these past fourteen years.”[53]

In a speech delivered in Berlin, October 24, 1933, Hitler stated: “We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.”[54]

In a radio address October 14, 1933 Hitler stated “For eight months we have been waging a heroic battle against the Communist threat to our Volk, the decomposition of our culture, the subversion of our art, and the poisoning of our public morality. We have put an end to denial of God and abuse of religion. We owe Providence humble gratitude for not allowing us to lose our battle against the misery of unemployment and for the salvation of the German peasant.”[55]

In a speech delivered at Koblenz, August 26, 1934 Hitler states: “There may have been a time when even parties founded on the ecclesiastical basis were a necessity. At that time Liberalism was opposed to the Church, while Marxism was anti-religious. But that time is past. National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary, it stands on the ground of a real Christianity. The Church’s interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of to-day, in our fight against the Bolshevist culture, against an atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for the consciousness of a community in our national life, for the conquest of hatred and disunion between the classes, for the conquest of civil war and unrest, of strife and discord. These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles.”[56]

During negotiations leading to the Nazi-Vatican Concordat of April 26, 1933 Hitler argued that “Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith.”[57]

[edit] Islamic and eastern religionsAmong eastern religions, Hitler described religious leaders such as “Confucius, Buddha, and Mohammed” as providers of “spiritual sustenance”.[58] In this context, Hitler’s connection to Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, the Mufti of Jerusalem — which included asylum in 1941, the honorary rank of an SS Major, and a “respected racial genealogy” — has been interpreted more as a sign of respect than political expedience.[59] Hitler expressed admiration for the Muslim military tradition and directed Himmler to initiate Muslim SS Divisions as a matter of policy.[321] According to one confidant, Hitler stated in private, “The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?”[60] Hitler’s choice of the Swastika as the Nazis’ main and official symbol, was linked to the belief in the Aryan cultural descent of the German people. They considered the early Aryans of India to be the prototypical white invaders and the sign as a symbol of the Aryan master race.[61] Thus, high caste Hindus such as Brahmins, were considered to be pure Aryan due to their genealogical connection to the ancient Aryans. However, despite the Roma’s Indian origin, they were considered a threat to German racial hygiene because they were in fact, descended from Aryans, but were of poorer classes that had mingled with the various “inferior” races they encountered during their wanderings.

[edit] Role of religion in the Nazi stateHitler was opposed to state atheism, which for example was part of the political system of the Soviet Union. He issued a statement saying that he wished to avoid factional disputes in Germany’s churches.[62] Hitler feared the political power that the churches had, and did not want to openly antagonize that political base until he had securely gained control of the country

are you trying to say hitler had some compassion for religion? i thought hitler was a protestant and didn’t learn he was an atheist until all the stories about the holocaust came out after the war. i know one thing for sure the russians were the ones to fear when it came to atrocities, even the germans feared being captured by them. when the germans first invaded russia, thousands of russians deserted the russian army and joined the germans, after the war eisenhower returned those deserters to russia and they were massacred, something like twenty five thousand. the french liked the the german invaders too. only the french underground resisted and they were almost all communist. a friend of mine was shot down over france and the communist underground hid him from the germans and got him back to england, a very interesting story.

      Hitler was a devout Catholic.

Perhaps in his mind only – certainly not in his actions. One can consider themselves whatever they want but that doesn’t make it so.

Sorry, that doesn’t wash, coal miner. Read the last paragraph you quoted, and you’ll understand he was just using the church as a political tool to be discarded when the NAZIs achieved total power.

your right. i was testing you. hitlers autobiography is an interesting read, in fact the history of world war 1 thru the 2nd war and the economics of germany after the versailles treaty leading up to ww2 is quite interesting. hitler wasn’t a fan of the communist that’s for sure.
