Research Disputes Antioxidants Allegations

October 21, 2009 by

Research disputes antioxidants allegations In response to an earlier study which appeared to find a link between antioxidant supplementation and a higher risk of skin cancer, a team from Kaiser Permanente Northern California conducted new research which found this hypothesis to be untrue.

The study analyzed the association between antioxidants and melanoma among 69,671 participants of the Vitamins and Lifestyle (VITAL) study. The subjects, who included both men and women, completed a questionnaire about lifestyle factors, health history, diet, supplement use and other cancer risk factors at the beginning of the study in 2000-2002.

The results suggest that taking nutritional supplements with vitamins C and E, beta carotene, selenium and zinc during the previous 10 years did not lead to a higher risk of melanoma in either women or men.

Furthermore, the authors of the study note that "the Nurses’ Health Study reported no association between intake of vitamins A, C and E and melanoma risk in 162,000 women during more than 1.6 million person-years of follow-up."

The results have recently been published in the Archives of Dermatology.

The taking of antioxidants is very important. I have been taking them for 20 or more years. Some of the ones I take daily are: Vita C 2000mg, Selenium 200mcg, Vita E 800IU’S, Lycopene 20mg, Astaxanthin 4mg, Vita D 4000IU’S, CoQ-10 30mg.
Antioxidants remove from your system the bacteria that enters your body every day in the air that you breathe, the food that you eat and the liquids that you drink. If this bacteria is allowed to accumilate, it could cause illnesses such as CANCER,flu, problems with you Kidneys, or Liver. I also take Pomegranate and N-Acetyl-Cysteine, both will protect your heart. You see Selenium and Vitamin E, if taken in the quantities listed will prevent CANCER. However, the medical profession knows this, but they don’t encourage people to take them, because it would take money away from the doctors. I DO NOT GET SICK PERIOD. Please answer my letter and I will send you a complete list I take and tell what each item does for your body. Mark McLean
