Probiotics an increasingly popular alternative to medications

March 11, 2009 by

Probiotics an increasingly popular alternative to medications Doctors have suggested that not all digestive problems are related to food consumption and not all of them need to be treated with medication. Meanwhile, a new study has found that the number of products containing probiotics has grown substantially in the past year.

A study conducted by Datamonitor, a market research firm, has found that more than 200 new food products now contain probiotics, the bacteria that normally live in the digestive tract and help improve digestive health.

Probiotics can also alleviate symptoms association with irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea.

They can be found not just in yogurts but also in other dairy and non-dairy products and even sauerkraut, according to the Des Moines Register.

Meanwhile doctors from Baylor University Medical Center have suggested that not all digestive problems are related to food intake. They can also stem from factors such as stress.

For this type of digestive discomfort, they say, lifestyle chances such as exercise as well as natural remedies may be the best option.

Similarly, for those who are too busy to derive probiotic benefits from their diet, pills containing the nutritional supplement may be a good solution.

Even if you’re tired of hearing about (or feeling) the pinch in our economic recession, it is a reality that has many of us stressed out. Stress affects your health almost immediately from back pain to stomach upset and disturbed sleep patterns. I’ve been focusing on taking care of myself as best I can, and have found a fantastic new probiotic supplement that also helps with healthy sleep and relaxation. It’s called Flora Calm and you can find it here: http://www.nutri-health.com/probiotics/pc/viewprd.asp?idcategory=2&idproduct=14.

As people get older their stomach hydrochloric acid goes down causing digestive problems. This needs to be replaced and also probiotics should be added to create good stomach bacteria and balance.

This brings up the question of antibiotics. Not one physician in ten thousand concerns themselves with the damage antibiotics does to probiotics. Antibiotics wipe out the good and the bad bacteria and it is imperative to replace good bacteria with probiotics.

I have about completely reversed the irritable bowel syndrome that I’ve dealt with for the past 30 years by adding a good probiotic and some natural anti-fungals daily. I’ve also cut as much sugar and grains out as possible. I feel fantastic…I can now go places without the discomfort and the worry of having to run to the bathroom. Maintaining proper bowel flora is the key. Candida yeast can grow out of control when the good bacteria are killed off by stress, antibiotics and poor diet. Natural anti-fungals and a diet that does not feed the yeast, along with repopulating the colon with good probiotics helps to maintain the balance. It may sound like a strict regimen, but it really isn’t…and the payoff is wonderful!

Hi, in addition to anti-fungals & probiotic, you can supplement w/ L-glutamine, an amino acid that helps plug the holes in the intestines left by candida yeast overgrowth. Another good effect of glutamine is your muscles will recover quicker, gain strength, & tighten up. -Jeff

Sign Petition To Stop Television Prescription Drug Ads

Published by Marlene B. on Mar 18, 2009
    Category: Health
    Region: GLOBAL
Target: U.S. Congress, FCC, FDA, European Commission, EMEA

    Background (Preamble):
Statistics prove prescription drugs are 16,400% more deadly than terrorists. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 1998, a report finds that prescription drugs kill about 106,000 Americans each year – that’s three times as many as are killed by automobiles—making prescription drug death the fourth leading killer after heart disease, cancer and stroke.

Last year, the Journal of the American Medical Association puts death from all drugs, illegal and prescription, second only behind car accidents as a cause of death.

The rise in deaths coincides with the direct marketing of prescription medication to the public. Prescription drug sales have soared nearly 500 percent since 1990.

The pharmaceutical industry is a multi-trillion dollar business. Companies spend billions on advertising and promotions for prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies claim their drug ads are “educational” to the public. The public seems to genuinely believe that drugs advertised on TV are safe, in spite of the plethora of side effects listed. Many of these drugs have proven deadly.

Every day it’s estimated 2,500 teens abuse a prescription pain killer for the first time.

The White House Office of National Drug Control policy had been planning to unveil an ad campaign to target prescription drug abuse by teens. It is time to stop this form of advertising by the pharmaceutical companies.
    Petition:
We, the undersigned, request that Congress, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the European Commission, EMEA (European Medicines Agency) stop all television advertising of prescription drugs.
THE LAST TIME A CURE WAS FOUND FOR A DISEASE
WAS 1959. DR. JONAS SALK DEVELOPED THE VACCINE
FOR POLIO. HE WAS JUST ONE MAN.
SINCE THAT TIME, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
HAVE BEEN SPENT ON DISEASE. NOT FOR A CURE, BUT FOR
DRUG TREATMENT ONLY. A CURE WOULD PUT BIG
PHARMA OUT OF BIZ. IT SHOULD BE THE JOB OF A PHYSICIAN
TO PRESCRIBE THE BEST TREATMENTS TO A PATIENT, INSTEAD
OF PATIENTS ASKING DOCTORS TO PRESCRIBE THESE DRUGS.
BY ADVERTISING THESE DRUGS, THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN A LEGAL DRUG TRADE THAT IS KILLING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY.
