In an interview with NPR, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman expressed dislike for the fact that most Americans consider President Barack Obama the first black President.
During his appearance on “Tell Me More,” Freeman said, “Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America. There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”
Obama has proudly worn the mantle of America’s first black President. In 2010, the White House confirmed that Obama opted to check the census box that says “Black, African Am., or Negro.”
In 2009, comedian Wanda Sykes made an apt observation during a dinner at the White House. “The first black president! I’m proud to be able to say that. That’s unless you screw up. And then it’s going to be, ‘What’s up with the half-white guy?’”
Freeman conveyed that he is unhappy with the reluctance of Republicans and Democrats to work together, and he is disheartened by the current state of the country.
