Missouri Children Burned Trying To Copy Popular Cold-Weather Video

ST. LOUIS (UPI) — Two Missouri children were hurt by boiling hot water when they threw it into the freezing air in duplication of an Internet experiment, an official says.

An Internet video made popular by sub-zero temperatures across much of the United States shows a Wisconsin meteorologist throwing a container of boiling water outside. The liquid turns to ice and snow before it hits the ground.

Abby Wuellner, a spokeswoman for St. Louis Children’s Hospital said two children who tried to repeat the demonstration were burned when they were hit in the face by the boiling water, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday.

“It’s something that a lot of folks have been doing, but don’t realize the hazards of it,” Wuellner said, alluding to the large number of people stuck at home by the inclement weather. “It’s not a good idea to be trying.”

The injured children were released later in the day.
