Immigration Amnesty Could Have 2nd Amendment Implications

The ongoing debate over whether to include amnesty as a feature in the immigration bill before Congress may not have obvious implications for Americans’ right to bear arms. But, as a memo from Gun Owners of America points out, amnesty could tip the balance in favor of Liberal gun control politics in some parts of the country.

The amnesty bill, if it survives, could eventually create anywhere from 11.5 million to 20 million new American citizens. There’s no guarantee how those new citizens would vote, or in what numbers, but Gun Owners of America makes its case against amnesty like this:

[I]f history is any guide, they will vote 71% of the time for far Left Democrats like Barack Obama.

Impartial analysts have determined that Florida, Colorado, Nevada, and probably Arizona will never vote for Republicans again. Given this, for the rest of your life, the White House will be occupied by someone who is just as anti-gun and just as liberal as Barack Obama.

Conservatives in the Senate think that they can woo new immigrants to their side of the aisle. But it is informative that, after the last amnesty bill (the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli bill signed by Ronald Reagan), those people given citizenship were LESS LIKELY to vote for more conservative and constitutional candidates.

The group argues it’s urgent that States with liberal-leaning leaders not receive an infusion of newly-minted citizens beholden to the same liberal policies to which they attribute their own citizenship. Already, in liberal-dominated States, gun confiscation isn’t a forbidden political talking point:

  • New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that “confiscation could be an option” after the shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.
  • Likewise, an Iowa legislator said that we need to “start taking” guns from law-abiding gun owners.
  • Legislation in both Minnesota and Missouri would have, if enacted this year, forced residents to surrender their high-capacity magazines and many of their semi-automatic firearms.
  • Legislators in New Jersey were recently caught on a hot mic saying that “we needed a bill that was going to confiscate, confiscate, confiscate” guns from citizens.
Personal Liberty

Ben Bullard

Reconciling the concept of individual sovereignty with conscientious participation in the modern American political process is a continuing preoccupation for staff writer Ben Bullard. A former community newspaper writer, Bullard has closely observed the manner in which well-meaning small-town politicians and policy makers often accept, unthinkingly, their increasingly marginal role in shaping the quality of their own lives, as well as those of the people whom they serve. He argues that American public policy is plagued by inscrutable and corrupt motives on a national scale, a fundamental problem which individuals, families and communities must strive to solve. This, he argues, can be achieved only as Americans rediscover the principal role each citizen plays in enriching the welfare of our Republic.

where do you think that they would vote? they would go with the idiot that is giving them their free ride. that’s so they could keep the ride going. they would vote for gun control because they have already proven that they are not going to obey the law anyway. if they can take the guns away from the law abiding people then they can have free rein to do whatever they want and lay it off on the people that they are ripping off and killing…… hey, he had more than I did and so I took some. that kind of stuff will be going on and the government will back them up. then obummer will “invite” “most” of the people to convert to islam. with the exception of the jewish people.and their you have obummer world as he wants it and as you :idiots” are set on helping him get there…….

Fortunately, we live in a Republic under a Constitution which binds us all. In a Democracy “liberal” voters could tyrannize away all of our rights, but we don’t have a Democracy. Our Constitution constrains government and all other tyrannies – Our Constitution does NOT grant our rights.

Our rights come from God, from our humanity and this is Our America as long as we do not infringe upon the rights of each other. We do not have 2nd Amendment protection or privilege – the 2nd Amendment statute specifically criminalizes overreaching government.

Because of Our Constitution, it does not matter if 99% of voters want, for example, gun confiscation. The resulting laws or regulations would be null and void as “repugnant to the Constitution”. A careful reading of Article 6, Section 2 will show that laws, regulations, treaties or amendments shall have effect… ONLY if made in Pursuance of the Constitution.

      Ire my friend,

If they can disarm enough of us or control the ammunition as they are already doing, our constitution won’t save us. The present administration is stomping all over our rights with apparent impunity (Holder won’t stand up for us and neither will the Congress) The federal Law enforcement community is bowing down to the usurper in the White House. About all we have left is the County Sheriffs who are willing to stand up to the Feds and say “Hands Off”. Sadly, not every sheriff will stand up for us as they are Democrats/Liberals or owned by the Dem/Libs. To say we are in deep trouble is a gross understatement. We have been asleep or lazy and we have allowed our Republic to be taken over by people who wish us the greatest of harm. The “low info voters have elected a man who wishes nothing good for this country and if the new “Amnesty program is pushed through congress, say goodbye to your constitution and your country. If twenty million new Liberal voters are given Citizenship, you will never see anything but a Liberal in the WH for the rest of our countries (probably) very short history. In other words, short of a miracle, we are pretty much screwed.

        I will agree with you that our situation appears dicey. But, Our legal position could not be stronger. Also, a few unseen factors are at play;

First, the fear of reputation-loss by being called racist or having past indiscretions revealed is becoming less important to actual Patriots, even some of those those in Public Service.

Second, we have been giving this latest bunch of miscreants extra “rope”, which they have been consuming as if it were actual hemp.

So (third) characters like Barack, Hillary and Leon have “pulled” gambits like the Benghazi matter, and now have stronger confidence of meeting firing squads and greater inclinations to resign.

Fourth, this Admin has placed itself in dutch with both Our military and Christians, a VERY bad position, as both factions are quite physical in defense of Liberty.

And (fifth) there are more than quite a few of We the People who are armed to the teeth, again it’s about the Liberty thing.

Yes sir, well said. In addition, it’s important to remember the high price and sacrifices that most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence paid to assure us of the precious gift of Liberty. A gift that most today take for granted.
Many of these brave patriots were well off planters and business men who had a lot to lose by standing up to tyranny….nevertheless they did, because they were men of honor and had BIG COJONES, and we dishonor their sacrifice with our disgusting apathy and ignorance of the events that are bringing ruin to this once great country.

    • Walt

You said: “Our Constitution constrains government and all other tyrannies”
Really? Try explaining how the Constitution has constrained the legislators in Conn. & NY. As far as I know, no one has yet challenged their unconstitutional laws. What good is the Constitution, if these bozos feel empowered to ignore it for their own partisan agenda.

  • Jake Thomas

Just loved the statement – “We need to start taking guns from law abiding gun owners” These guys are just as ignorant as you can get. Law abiding gun owners don’t cause the problem.

The idea is to disarm EVERYONE but their army of cronies. Then they have control over everything. It’s all about CONTROL!!! Safety has nothing to do with anything…
