House Lawmakers Want Eric Holder Impeached

November 14, 2013 by

A group of 20 House Republicans signed a proposal Thursday calling for the impeachment of Attorney General Eric Holder for “high crimes and misdemeanors” and “offenses of the Constitution.”

Representative Pete Olson (Texas) is leading an effort calling for Holder to be charged with perjury, failure to comply with subpoenas and failure to discharge the duties of Attorney General.

“For nearly five years, Attorney General Holder has systematically deceived Congress and destroyed the credibility of the Justice Department in the eyes of the American people,” Olson said.

When Holder failed to comply with Congressional subpoena’s related to the Fast and Furious gun-running campaign in 2012, the Hose voted overwhelmingly to hold Holder in criminal contempt.

“Still, he continued to mislead and thwart congressional efforts to bring the truth to the American people,” Olson said.

According to a summary of charges, Holder has “engaged in a pattern of conduct incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in him in that position by refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Oct. 12, 2011.”

Another item charges Holder with failure to enforce laws such as Defense of Marriage Act before it was invalidated by the Supreme Court.

The lawmakers go on to charge Holder with failure to properly investigate the Internal Revenue Service scandal earlier this year when conservative groups were targeted for extra scrutiny.

Finally, the lawmakers claim that Holder perjured himself earlier this year when he claimed to have had no knowledge of any government attacks against the media for disclosure of classified material.

Olsen is joined by: Representatives Larry Bucshon (Ind.), Blake Farenthold (Texas), David Roe (Tenn.), Randy Weber (Texas), Lynn Westmoreland (Ga.), Roger Williams (Texas), Ted Yoho (Fla.) Louie Gohmert (Texas), Michele Bachmann (Minn.), Bill Flores (Texas), Mark Amodei (Nev.), Jim Bridenstine (Okla.), Scott DesJarlais (Tenn), Jeff Duncan (S.C.), Duncan Hunter (Calif.), Sam Johnson (Texas), Steve Stockman (Texas), Mike Conaway (Texas), and Thomas Massie (Ky.).
