Hotel Names Lounge For Leona Helmsley’s Pampered Pooch

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) — A luxury New York hotel once owned by Leona Helmsley said it is naming a bar after her dog, Trouble, who inherited $12 million upon the hotelier’s 2007 death.

The New York Palace Hotel said its new cocktail den, Trouble’s Trust, is named in honor of the wealthy lap dog, who died three years after his owner, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

“We wanted it to be a decadent space that plays off Trouble’s rich inheritance,” project designer Stella Bok of Champalim said.

Bok said the finishes and colors in the lounge are intentionally dark to create an atmosphere suitable for the “Queen of Mean,” as Helmsley was known for her often-contentious public persona.

“All of the finishes and colors are really rich and very dark, creating a moodiness,” Bok said.

The menu is covered in printed golden paws in honor of Trouble, but no dogs are allowed in the lounge, not even the wealthiest canines.
