Group Dressed In Santa Suits Gives Kansas City Clerk Petitions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (UPI) — A group trying to stop a new airport in Kansas City, Mo., dressed in Santa suits to deliver petitions to the city clerk.

Friends of KCI also gift-wrapped the petitions, signed by 3,500 people, KSHB reported. The group went to City Hall Tuesday with the petitions, which seek a referendum on the airport’s future.

The City Council is considering three options for 40-year-old Kansas City International Airport, actually 15 miles northwest of downtown in Platte County. They include renovating the existing three terminals, merging them into one central terminal or building a new airport.

John Murphy of Friends of KCI said the city has more pressing needs.

“Broken roads, broken sewers, broken parks, high crime, and horrible schools. What they want to focus on is rebuild an airport that works. It’s fine the way it is,” he told KSHB.
