Four More Charged In Steubenville, Ohio, Rape Case

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (UPI) — Three Ohio educators and a volunteer coach were indicted by a grand jury for their alleged actions related to a teen rape case, a state official said Monday.

The most serious charges announced by state Attorney General Mike DeWine involve accusations of impeding the investigation into the 2012 rape of a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville by members of a high school football team, The Plain Dealer reported.

Steubenville schools Superintendent Michael McVey, 50, is charged with felony obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence, as well as misdemeanor charges of obstructing State business and falsification.

Matthew Belardine, a former volunteer assistant football coach, is charged with allowing underage drinking, obstructing official business and making false statements to investigators, all misdemeanors.

Belardine was the adult who broke up the party where the rape victim and the two assailants were drinking, the newspaper said.

A teacher and an elementary school principal were also charged with failure to report child abuse, CNN reported.

Two teens were found to be delinquent of rape, the juvenile equivalent of guilty, in March, and are serving time in a State juvenile facility, The Plain Dealer said.
