Drunken Man Called 911, Demanded Snacks, Threatened Violence

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Saskatchewan (UPI) — Police in Saskatchewan said they arrested a drunken man who threatened gun violence when a 911 dispatcher ignored his demands for snacks and booze.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the 41-year-old North Battleford man, whose name was not released, called 911 around 3 a.m. Thursday and told the dispatcher he wanted police to bring him “a pop and some smokes,” the QMI Agency reported Friday.

The man called 911 a second time when his request was not fulfilled and said he wanted officers to bring him “another mickey of vodka.”

When the man was told police would not do as he asked, he told the dispatcher he had a gun and would hurt himself or others, investigators said.

Police responded to the man’s home and he initially refused commands to come out, but he “then fell asleep when members did not bring him the snacks he wanted.”

The man, who police said had a “high level of intoxication,” was arrested and police seized a .22-calibre rifle and ammunition from the home.

The suspect was charged with careless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
