A few years ago, I had a serious wake-up call about how vulnerable my family was to natural and manmade disasters. There were dozens of threats that could quickly disrupt or end life as we know it and Katrina gave us a glimpse into breakdowns in civil order and the Federal government’s inability to effectively respond to localized disasters.
If you are prepared you will not fear. People spend a lot of money on insurance of all kinds: Life, health, hospitalization, vehicle, property, liability, home, flood, earthquake, catastrophic, malpractice and business.
In the event of a chemical, biological or radiological attack, a safe room is essential to survival. The safe room should ideally be a room in the interior of the home. If no interior room is available, choose one with as few external walls and windows as possible. An adjoining bathroom is also desirable.

The basic food items recommended for storage and the quantities to store are listed below. These are only suggestions. Every individual and family is unique in what they like and will eat. If you don’t eat meat, drink milk, eat wheat, sugar or any other food item listed, then you will need to adjust the amount of these items that you store.
