Young Christmas Carolers Allowed To Return To Grocery Store

VANCOUVER, Wash. (UPI) — A pair of young girls told not to sing Christmas carols outside a Washington state grocery store were allowed to return by a corporate attorney.

Ayla Bascom and Kaitlyn Manseau told KATU, they were singing Christmas carols outside a Winco store in Vancouver, Wash., for less than an hour when an employee came outside and told them they were not allowed to sing.

“[The employee said] our policy is like we don’t allow carolers or something like that,” Manseau said.

“I was like bummed,” Bascom said. “We were both depressed that we couldn’t spread any more love and joy and cheer.”

KATU contacted the store’s manager, who passed on contact information for a corporate attorney. The girls left a voicemail at the number, complete with a song, asking for permission to sing.

The call received a response from corporate attorney Mike Reed.

“Winco has no written policy on that — we do as a company try to remain neutral on some policies,” he said.

Reed said he didn’t “see any harm in a couple of little girls singing,” and passed the message along to Winco managers.

The girls were allowed to return to the store to sing their Christmas carols and KATU broadcast their performance on the local news.
