HOLLY HILL, Fla., Aug. 11 (UPI) — A Holly Hill, Fla., grandmother who said she wanted her infant grandson to have a better life was sentenced to five years in prison for trying to sell him.

Patty Bigbee, 46, pleaded no contest to the illegal sale of the child for $30,000 in June and was sentenced in Volusia County court Thursday, The Miami Herald reported.

Bigbee was arrested in November after her biological daughter told police about the scheme sell the infant, Aiden, The Daytona Beach (Fla.) News Journal reported.

Bigbee told the judge that she just wanted a better life for her grandson.

“I made mistakes, I didn’t handle it properly,” Bigbee said. “This I didn’t do for the money.”

A custody hearing to place the child, currently in foster care, is scheduled for next month.
