Winning Powerball Ticket Worth $228.9M

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 12 (UPI) — A winning Powerball ticket worth $228.9 million was sold this week in Dakota County, Minn., state lottery officials said.

The winner had not come forward to claim the prize late Thursday, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported. The winning ticket — bearing the numbers 11-18-36-41-46 and Powerball 38 — has the largest Powerball payout since July 2010, when there was a $261 million jackpot, the newspaper said.

Minnesota State Lottery spokeswoman Emily Welker said it wouldn’t be unusual for the holder of the winning ticket to wait a while before coming forward.

“Some winners take a couple days,” she said. “Some winners may not find out right away.”

John Nee, 63, of Apple Valley, checked his ticket against the winning numbers and determined right away he wasn’t going to be in the money — at least not this week.

“Like every week,” he told the newspaper. “It’s not me. But that’s all right. It will come.”

The location where the winning ticket was sold will not be made public until the winner comes forward. The seller is in line for a $50,000 bonus for selling the big ticket.
