White House blasts remarks by Robertson and Limbaugh regarding HaitiLast Thursday, while discussing the situation in Haiti, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs reacted to public comments made by evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson and conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, calling their remarks "stupid."

On his syndicated program, The 700 Club, Robertson claimed that Haitians may have brought the deadly earthquake on themselves by making a "pact with the devil" centuries ago, according to USA Today.

"It never ceases to amaze that in times of amazing human suffering somebody says something that could be so utterly stupid, but it like clockwork happens with some regularity," said Gibbs.

In a statement, Robertson’s spokesman Chris Roslan said the televangelist never referred to the earthquake as God’s wrath, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reports.

Meanwhile, Limbaugh reportedly asked people not to donate to the relief efforts in Haiti because he believes that President Obama is using the catastrophe to promote his political fortunes.

"I think to use the power of your pulpit to try to convince those not to help their brothers and sisters is sad," Gibbs commented on Limbaugh’s statement, quoted by the news source.
