White House Announces Weapons Sale To Saudi Arabia

White House Announces Weapons Sale To Saudi Arabia

The White House has forged an agreement with Saudi Arabia to sell the kingdom $29.4 billion worth of equipment for the Royal Saudi Air Force.

The agreement includes production of 84 new Boeing F-15SA aircraft and the modernization of 70 existing aircraft as well as munitions, spare parts, training, maintenance and logistics, according to a White House press release. Officials with the Administration of Barack Obama say the move will help to bolster the U.S. economy by engaging 600 American suppliers in 44 States, providing $3.5 billion in annual economic impact.

The agreement is part of a larger $60 billion arms package for Saudi Arabia that was passed by Congress last year. The White House decision to move forward with this portion comes as tensions mount between the United States and Iran in the Persian Gulf and the final troops are pulled from Iraq.

Saudi Arabia is a longtime enemy of Iran, and the tattered relationship between the two countries may be exploited by the White House as the U.S. and Iran continue to quarrel over nuclear energy and trade sanctions. The Saudi weapons-sale announcement comes just a week after Iranian officials threatened to close the vital Straits of Hormuz in response to indications that the United States plans to impose new sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

I agree. 15 0f the 19 suspected terrorist were Saudis. The language of Islam is Arabic. The language spoken in Saudi Arabia while those in Iran speak mostly 90 year old mother and i a book title of which is WHY WE LEFT ISLAM. A book full of horror stories. In Saudi Arabia, a dog is treated with more respect than a woman. After reading the Qur’an and comparing it to the Bible some became Christians . often at the risk of death. Saudi Arabian women have very few rights.

        That’s right ! Iranians Aryan NOT Semite’s

        • Vigilant

Since you are anti-Semitic, does that mean you support Iran?

          • Jay

If he were anti-semetic he wouldn’t be supporting Iran, now would he, dumb dumb?

          • Joseph

The political definition of a Semite is one who is a member of any of a number of peoples of ancient southwestern Asia including the Akkadians, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Arabs. It is one who is a descendant of these people. They are a member of a modern people speaking a Semitic language.

Did you notice the number of groups? Four not One! These four groups make up the Semitic peoples of the earth. I have already checked the following out in two dictionaries. The term Anti-Semitic is used only of those who dislike or hate Jews, or as a weapon against whoever the Jews don’t like.

Hey, wait a minute, there are four groups who are considered Semitic. If I hate the Arabs it is not Anti-Semitism but if I hate the Jews it is? Someone is selling the literary world a bill of goods in the dictionaries.

If the Semitic people are comprised of four groups, then any hate toward any group needs to be classified as Anti-Semitism. Therefore, if the Jews hate the Arabs, then they are being Anti-Semitic, if the Phoenicians hate the Akkadians, it is Anti-Semitism. Eclectic definitions of Anti-Semitism must not be tolerated in favor of one race. It is obvious then that the term Anti-Semitism has been fostered on the non-thinking public as only alluding to the Jews which makes the modern definition a well-planned deception.

The other well-planned deception is that if you oppose Israel, you oppose God. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hebrews 1:1-2 says that in the last days God spoke to us through His Son, not the nation of Israel.

Mention the name of Jesus Christ in Israel and you will get arrested or killed. Any Christian who supports Israel is supporting the enemies of Christ, whether by ignorance or not. I am not calling for the elimination of Israel, perish the thought because there are many of God’s elect in Israel but that nation should not be looked upon as special in God’s sight because nowhere in the Bible is it set apart as a special nation in the latter days (post-ascension era).

God is dealing with His elect, the Israel of God, throughout the whole world and no longer with one nation as He did in the pre-Bethlehem days. His eyes are on the church, the TRUE ISRAEL OF GOD.

Jay shows his ignorance when he says, “If he were anti-semetic [sic] he wouldn’t be supporting Iran, now would he, dumb dumb?”

Since the saudi’s supported obama this sounds like another payback like solyndra. Also, these are union jobs he wants to create for another payback. He wants to help other countries build their military while at the same time destroying ours.

    • eddie47d

I don’t agree with giving the Saudis anything but to slam the creation of American jobs as destroying the American economy or our military is rather absurd. Personally I don’t want America fueling any part of the arms race for all it does is create more wars. We gave military hardware to Iraq under Reagan and look where that lead too. We armed the Taliban with stinger missles and then they turned against us.I wholeheartedly agree that by further arming the Saudis will bring us closer to war with Iran.

      • jimmy the greek

Yes Eddie that is what the zionist want , Americans to fight Iran for them . If we were smart what we would do is nuke israel and blame Iran for doing it ,

  • Ted Crawford

The Saudies have, so far, been relatively immune to the turmoil that has taken over the Middle East and Northern Africa. They are at least nonbeligerent to us and more friendly towards us than Iran. This seems like a reasonable gamble that they might be encouraged to exert an irrestable, restraining influence on Iran! Thios is one, of a very few, foreign affairs decisions I find acceptable.

    • Vigilant

      Agreed, Ted.

We’ve bolstered the Saudi military for decades as insurance, and this deal is nothing new. Now that Iraq is down the tubes it will become part of the Iranian sphere of influence (God help the Sunnis and Kurds).

The Saudi deal will help maintain a balance of power in the M.E.

      • Jay

You two are a couple of loonies!

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F-15 Eagle is a twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter designed by McDonnell Douglas to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. It is considered among the most successful modern fighters with over 100 aerial combat victories with no losses in dogfights. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas’ design in 1967 to meet the service’s need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. The Eagle first flew in July 1972, and entered service in 1976.
Saudi Arabia prefers the F-15. As it showed in 1986, however, it is perfectly willing to buy European aircraft instead, and the British and French are more than willing to sell. (It should also be noted that two very fine former Soviet combat aircraft, the Su-27 and MiG-29, are now being marketed to Western countries at very low prices.) The Saudis are also shrewd about costs. They will not pay inflated costs for F-15s resulting from stopping and then restarting production lines.

The US and Saudi Arabia have long been close military partners, and this is part of a much larger, multi-year package first announced more than a year ago.
But the timing of this “pre-announcement” is hardly accidental, and represents a robust reminder of American support for a key regional ally, just as Iran is warning that it could disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz if Washington imposes sanctions on Tehran’s oil exports.
America’s principal allies in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states and Israel, all view Iran as the principal threat to regional stability. Tensions between the Saudis and the Iranians were heightened after the US accused Tehran of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington earlier this year.
Saudi Arabia, as well as being a main plank of American policy in the Middle East, is also vital to US energy security, ranking as the third-largest source of its oil imports.
Few in Washington, including Israel’s supporters, seriously object to arming Saudi Arabia,

    • eddie47d

Good comments Norm but doesn’t that put us in the category of “sleeping with the enemy”. The Saudis are horrible on human rights and imprison their citizens for minor violations and even made up violations. Besides the Saudis are Sunnis and Iranians are Shiites which means we are taking sides against one religious faction over another. That didn’t exactly work in Iraq for us.

      • Norm

We destroyed Iran’s worst enemy when we ousted Sadam from Iraq. The fact that the Saudis are Sunnis is a plus for the US. Any enemy of your enemy, no mater how vile, is a friend of yours.
F15s are an excellent aircraft but they are dated (I worked on some control packages in the early 80’s).
By grabbing the 60 billion $ arms deal, the US gets the needed business, the Saudis appreciate our “friendship”, and by controlling the spare parts flow we have some say in the aircraft usage.
If we don’t supply the planes, others will and we get 0.

      • vicki

        eddie47d writes:
“The Saudis are horrible on human rights and imprison their citizens for minor violations and even made up violations.”

And now with the NDAA 2011 America can do that too. They can even skip having to make-up a violation. Not sure this is the progress liberals who claim to be for were expecting. And dear sweet “the one” signed it into law.

Here we have the enemy of my enemy is my friend, the failed foreign policy of the Cold War.

Fundamentally we do not get non-proliferation of weapons. No wonder our streets are battle grounds and our weapons support drug cartels. Against this is a cry for personal liberty to arm oneself which leads to more death and violence.

The tribe of Saud came into power, formed the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and remains in power today, due primarily to it’s longstanding partnership with the Wahhabi sect of Islam centred in the Najd region (which includes Riyadh). It is this sect which supports all the muslim extremists around the world. It is these “Islamic schools” that serve as fertile breeding grounds for the recruitment of future terrorists.
And it is where young students are brainwashed on a curriculum of hatred for Western values, in general, and Israel and the U.S. in particular.”

The U.S. Department of Defence has released translations of a number of Iraqi intelligence documents dating from Saddam’s rule.  One, a General Military Intelligence Directorate report from September 2002, entitled “The Emergence of Wahhabism and its Historical Roots”, shows the Iraqi government was aware of the nefarious purposes of the Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia, often known as Salafis, in serving Western interests to undermine Islam.

The report relies heavily on the Memoirs of Mr. Hempher, which describe in detail how a British spy to the Middle East, in the middle of the eighteenth century, made contact with Adbul Wahhab, to create a subversive version of Islam, the notorious sect of Wahhabism, which became the founding cult of the Saudi regime.

The movement was temporarily suppressed by the Ottoman armies in the middle of the nineteenth century.  But with the assistance of the British, the Wahhabis and their Saudi sponsors returned to power and founded their own state in 1932.

Since then, the Saudis have collaborated closely with the Americans, to whom they owe their tremendous oil wealth, in funding various Islamic fundamentalist organizations and other American covert operations, particularly the “jihad” in Afghanistan.  But the Saudis simultaneously use the immense wealth at their disposal to disseminate this disruptive brand of Islam to various parts of the world, categorized by some of the largest propaganda campaign in history.

In addition to that revealed in the Hempher Memoirs, the Iraqi intelligence report also makes known some surprising claims, derived from works circulated in Arabic which have not been translated into English.  As the report recounts, both Abdul Wahhab, and his sponsor, ibn Saud, who founded the Saudi dynasty, were of Jewish origin.

For example, D. Mustafa Turan wrote, in The Donmeh Jews, that Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab was a descendant of a family of Donmeh Jews from Turkey.  The Donmeh were descendants of followers of the infamous false-messiah of Judaism, Shabbetai Zevi, who shocked the Jewish world in 1666 by converting to Islam. Viewing it as a sacred mystery, Zevi’s followers imitated his conversion to Islam, though secretly keeping to their Kabbalistic doctrines.

In Europe, the Shabbeteans were eventually led a century later by Jacob Frank, claiming to be a reincarnation of Zevi.  And, according to Rabbi Antelman in To Eliminate the Opiate, to them belonged the Rothschilds who had a hand in the founding of the Bavarian Illuminati.

The Donmeh community of Turkey were concentrated in the city of Salonika, which became a hotbed of Masonic activity, and from which the Young Turk movement evolved, which aided in the collapse of the Muslim empire of the Ottoman Turks.  There is evidence that Ataturk himself, the founder of the modern Turkish state, was of Donmeh origin as well.

Turan maintains that Abdul Wahhab’s grandfather, Sulayman was actually Shulman, having belonged to the Jewish community of Bursa in Turkey.  From there he settled in Damascus, where he feigned Islam, but was apparently expelled for practicing sorcery.  He then fled to Egypt and he again faced condemnation, so made his way he to the Hijaz, where he got married and fathered Abdul Wahhab.

According to the report, the same is claimed in The Donmeh Jews and the Origin of the Saudi Wahabis, Rifat Salim Kabar.

The use of Islamic terrorism for the political ends of Western nations is nothing new. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1924, the British and Americans stepped in to fill the vacuum by providing their own versions of “Islamic” leaders. This started with the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was created through a grant from the British. Under British sponsorship, the Brotherhood flourished, and today represents a sizeable and powerful force in the Islamic world, but most worryingly, as the institution behind almost every act of terror in the name of Islam.

More correctly, the Brotherhood has been a tool shared my numerous Western intelligence agencies, starting with the Nazis, followed by the CIA, but also the Russians, French, Germans and Israelis.

Since the Truman and Eisenhower administrations, it has been a staple of foreign policy of the Cold War to exploit the Muslim Brotherhood to rally naive Muslims to reject “atheistic” Communism as an arch enemy of Islam. Ever since, the Americans and others have been able to manage the Brotherhood like a rabid dog on a leash to keep the Communist threat at bay.

With the collapse of the Cold War however, the Brotherhood has been used for new imperial objectives, where they pose as the bogey man which the Americans can chase with their armies into the Middle East and Central Asia, starting with Iraq and Afghanistan.

But, as NSC official Sheila Haslin explained, in a testimony at Senate hearings into illegal fund-raising activities, US policy in the region was to “promote the independence of these oil-rich countries, to in essence break Russia’s monopoly control over the transportation of oil from that region, and frankly, to promote Western energy security through diversity of supply.”

Israel has also maintained a long-standing relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, with its most recent manifestation being its participation in the founding of an offshoot organization, Hamas.

According to Robert Dreyfuss, who details the US’ troubling relationship with Islamic fundamentalism, in “Devil’s Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam”:

“And beginning in 1967 through the late 1980s, Israel helped the Muslim Brotherhood establish itself in the occupied territories. It assisted Ahmed Yassin, the leader of the Brotherhood, in creating Hamas, betting that its Islamist character would weaken the PLO.”

According to Charles Freeman, a veteran US diplomat and former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, “Israel started Hamas. It was a project of Shin Bet [Isreali domestic intelligence agency], which had a feeling that they could use it to hem in the PLO.”

In 1965, Yassin had been arrested by Egyptian intelligence, but after 1967, when Israel took control of the West Bank and Gaza, Yassin was freed. In 1973, under approval from Shin Bet, Yassin founded the Islamic Center, and began to establish effective control over hundreds of mosques. In 1976, Yassin created the Islamic Association, which membership branches throughout the Gaza Srip, and the movement grew.

Israel’s formal support for Islamic fundamentalism came with the election of the right-wing Likud party. In 1978, Begin’s new government formally licensed Yassin’s Islamic Association, as part of a strategy to undermine the power of the PLO. One aspect of that strategy was the creation of the Village Leagues, over which Yassin and the Brotherhood exercised much influence. Up to 200 members of the Leagues were given paramilitary training in Israel, among whom Shin Bet recruited many paid informers.

    • Alheimstead

      Israel started Hamas??

      • Jay

Thanks to the Mossad, Israel’s “Institute for Intelligence and Special Tasks”, the Hamas was allowed to reinforce its presence in the occupied territories. Meanwhile, Arafat’s Fatah Movement for National Liberation as well as the Palestinian Left were subjected to the most brutal form of repression and intimidation

Let us not forget that it was Israel, which in fact created Hamas. According to Zeev Sternell, historian at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, “Israel thought that it was a smart ploy to push the Islamists against the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO)”.

Is this an ‘Obama payback’ to the Saudi’s for footing the bill for his supposed Harvard education?

  • kemp

Over the past history we have sold arms to ‘friendly’ countrys in the middle east and a few years later they turned the weapons against US.When will we ever learn???
This “Obama payback”may be good for the economy But it works against our security.
As long as we buy the highpriced Saudi oil they will be “friendly” but if we develop our own energy source things will change.
We have already trained thier pilots so now we give them modern fighter planes.
    WHAT NEXT???????????

All you need to know about American foreign policy via Congress and the W H can be had in the idea that shadow puppets who control the W H and Congress require that wrong decisions be made at the worst possible time and for the worst possible reasons. It is also known as “LEADERSHIP,” people.
The solution is benign neutrality and the avoidance of foreign entanglements. But, what the hey. Being the world’s permanent, prostitute cop amounts to nothing but money, resources, lives and a raped economy. Right?
And some people just can’t understand how and why America is so screwed-up. Who says public education doesn’t work?
