Which President Did That?

Which President Did That?

You wouldn’t think Disney World would be a good source for presidential trivia. But during a recent visit, I came across a piece of history that stumped my good friend Chris, who is a world champion at presidential trivia.

Here’s what happened. It’s been many years since I had visited the Hall of Presidents, so during a recent visit to the Magic Kingdom I decided to take a break between the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean (two of my all-time favorites) and pay it a visit.

I’d forgotten about the display of historic mementoes in the exhibit area outside the theater. There was a wine glass from the James K. Polk Administration — sort of strange when you think of it, since Polk was an ardent teetotaler who refused to serve wine at White House dinners. There was a high-school essay by George Bush. And there was a golf club belonging to the President “who played more rounds of golf than any other while serving in office.” Can you guess who it was?

If you, like me and my friend Chris, said Ike, you’d be wrong. According to the experts at Disney, the answer is Woodrow Wilson.

Chris isn’t sure they got that one right. But he’s absolutely certain he knows the answers to the following 25 questions. Let’s see how you do on this Presidents’ Day Quiz he prepared for us.

Thanks, Chris, for helping to educate us about our Presidents. And to everyone reading this, be sure to visit the Hall of Presidents next time you’re at Disney World. This audio-animatronic presentation is almost as good as The American Adventure at Epcot. Morgan Freeman’s narration is simply magnificent.

And while you may resent the fact that the current occupant of the White House gets longer to speak than any other President, take heart by knowing that in two years he’ll be replaced on the platform — and in the White House.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

Thank you for the President trivia. Lot of them did not know. Appreciate your sharing.

  • Robert Wayne

I got 76% of the questions right. I didn’t even know they could ticket you back when Grant was president though. Leave it to a damn yankee general to be stupid enough to be ticketed during the horse and buggy age.

    • Keno

Better to be a dumb winner than a smart loser, I guess…

      • Robert Wayne

Unfortunately true. Grant had been a disaster at everything he did until the Confederate states were forced to fight for their independence. General Lee was considered a military genius. But no matter how much smarts you have, it’s impossible to win a war when the enemy’s population is ten times higher and they have all the manufacturing. 20/20 hindsight says the Confederacy did make a mistake trying to fight a war of attrition on its own territory though. Gen. Beauregard should have invaded deep into yankee territory after the first Battle of Manassas was won instead of sitting on his laurels.

        • Vigilant

Lee may have been considered a military genius, but Grant won the battles (never lost one, as a matter of fact). Lee tried to emulate Washington in “wearing down the opposition,” and almost succeeded. If Sherman (under Grant’s orders) had not taken Richmond, Lincoln might not have been re-elected, and the war may have ended differently.

During the 19th century, Grant remained the most popular president after Washington.

          • Vigilant

Ans as for being a disaster at everything he did, so was George Washington prior to the Revolution. His record was not very sparkling during the early Revolution either, but after the victories at Trenton and Princeton, he could do nothing wrong as far as the rebels were concerned.

    • Marvin Chapman

Grant was ticketed for riding a horse too fast

Get you a good drink, pull up a comfortable chair, and listen to this audio. It is very lengthy. It will scare the hell out of you. Is this going to happen, I don’t know, but with Nobama as our president it very well could happen. I hope it does not happen.

Questions Id have like to see on the list: Which President presided over the highest unemployment rate ever of 21.98 percent?. A. Jimmy Carter. Q: Which President presided over 96 consecutive months of continuous economic growth and produced 16 million jobs, and implemented tax cuts that nearly doubled federal revenue? A. Ronald Reagan. Q. Which Party continuously lies and says Reagan increased deficits, when in fact federal revenue was nearly doubled during his terms because of his tax cuts? A. The Democrats.

      Dear Beberoni–

Give it a rest! Which is not to say your facts are facts –they are fantasy– it’s just that you aren’t fitting in with the spirit of the column.

An aside to Chip: I was surprised to see you refer to “lying liars”. Al Franken would’ve enjoyed that, as well as today’s Presidential history quiz.

Sorry to ruffle your feathers. Did you know those answers? I did, and they are true. But I didnt know a lot of the ones the author listed. A lot of them I thought I knew, but I didnt, and was actually quite surprised. One of them, totally caught off guard. Question # 18. Who would have thought that? I admit I did not see that one coming.

        • bob wire

No problem, no feather ruffled, just highlighting discrepancies and keeping it real and between the two ditches.

        • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

          Beberoni:

I got that one correct, but I think Rhodes Scholar should have been in quotes. As I remember it being reported he never completed the studies.

    • Robert Wayne

You’re certainly right about that. I graduated from high school in 1978 during the Carter presidency. In the fall of 1978 I started college and needed at least a part time job to make ends meet. There was absolutely nothing out there. I finally got a part time job at J.C. Penney’s in their hardware dept. but what a struggle before finally getting the job. Must have been 100 others trying to get the same crappy low paying job.

      • bob wire

Most all the soldier had arrived home by then. This offers us a view of what happens when you stand down from a major military engagement that has gone on for many years. It creates A climate of less jobs and more people wanting one.

    • Earl, QUEENS, NY

Beberoni’s 2nd and 3rd questions sound right, but the first?? Shouldn’t the answer be FDR?? He DID preside over an unemployment rate of about 25%, didn’t he?? Anyway, I do have a few questions to add. 1st, which president took the worst economy since the Jimmy Carter era and turned it into the worst economy since the FDR era? 2nd, which president is perceived by drones and naïve liberal morons as a messiah, but in reality, if he were a true messiah, his miracles would be something like ‘making a blind man deaf’? 3rd, which president goes around the world badmouthing and apologizing for America (perhaps one of the reasons Donald Trump says we’re the laughingstock of the world!!)?? 4th, which president lies the most about creating/saving jobs when in reality he has destroyed 4 million jobs in 2 years?? 5th, which president most often whines and blames all of his detrimental policies and blunders on his predecessor?? ….We all should know the answer, which is the same to all 5 questions. To all the drones and other naïve uninformed American voters, I’ll give you a clue – on 11/4/2008, you made One Big Awful Mistake America!!!!

  • John Garback

I’m a registered Independent (independent in my thinking, my actions, and my voting. I’m more of a centrist. I’m of the opinion that we have a dysfunctional political system perpetuated by “self-serving career politicians”. Our Founding Fathers “never intended” that our nation would be “served” (I use this loosely)by “Career Politicians” – that’s what we have and it has taken us 234 years to place us on “a slippery slope to oblivion”. Our salvation; “Term Limits” in all political positions (city, county, state, national). Abolish the word “bipartisanship” from ever being used in the political arena “because there’s no such thing”. It is just “political rhetoric” that has duped the general public and wrongly spoon fed them into believing and supporting “hogwash”! I’m an Independent (since 1995) because “neither party” is serving me or our country. Our current system is “corrupt, inefficient (just look at the economic mess we’re in), ineffective, guided by “greed” that has allowed Corporate America and Wall Street “to sell us out”! Someday, I’ll really tell you “what I think”!

    • Dogma-Free “The Trinity”

John Garback, I like how you think, good sir!

    • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

      John:

It all boils down to the voters. The brain-dead electorate is the reason we are in this mess.

Term limits are every two years. The lazy, unthinking, or stupid, greedy voters wanting more for “nothing” from these self-serving politicians is why we are where we are.

  • Jim D

I got 13 of the questions right. I was right about Grover Cleveland being both #22 and #24. Another fact about Grover Cleveland: He was the only president to marry while in office.

    • Robert Wayne

That’s true. One year in high school each student in one of my history classes had to write a biography about a different First Lady. I kind of went over all of them and decided to pick Frances Folsom Cleveland after noticing that she and I shared the same birthday of July 21. Different years though…lol. She was also a very attractive woman and young enough to be Cleveland’s daughter. In fact I remember researching that she was the daughter of Cleveland’s law partner. I can’t believe I still remember all of that after 35 years.

  • mark

Enjoyed the quiz even though I would have gotten an F (I only got 13 out of 25). But, fear not, Obama will be re-elected in 2012. It is very hard to beat an incumbent and the Republicans will probably nominate an un-electable right wing fanatic, plus the Tea Party will run their own canidate which will assure the splitting of the Conservative Vote and the election of Obama will be guaranteed.

    • Dale on the left coast

So a left-wing fanatic or RINO is your choice . . . four more years of Odumbo will guarantee that the USA will be over before 2016.
The borrow and print mentality will create a 50 cent dollar, the union fanatics will be in the streets, the few functioning states may even leave the union. Some folks just don’t get it!!!

      • WayneT

Dale, listen to this audio presentation. It is very long so get yourself comfortable before going there. This is what Nobama is doing to this country which will only get fworse the longer he is in office. Our only hope is to get him out of office in 2012, or before.

        • bob wire

and this is all one man fault? I don’t think so Wayne.

To suggest one man has caused this or might somehow be able to solve it with the wave of a wand is absurd.

This has been created by greed and the 2% that enjoy the most wealth in the world.

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        Dale:

If Rep. Issa, and his Oversight Committee, would thoroughly investigate Little Barry he would be gone, off to prison. That would solve a lot of issues and save the Union.

You are correct in that if Barry is re-elected we are finished, and that is his goal and that of Soros.

They are putting all the levers in place. The latest of which is the internet “kill switch”.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

For one, Obama will not be re-elected, no way, no how. And two, the only way a Republican wont win, is if they do something really, really stupid again, like running a 150 year old career politician, at a time when people are sick of career politicians. They are entrenced in the network of lining their pockets and special interest groups, and they wont get my vote. But I dont see Obama getting many votes at all. I will actually be surprised to see the Dems let him run again. I guess we will see. I sure hope Im not wrong, the country cant afford it.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Beberoni,
There is one other way a repub won’t win! That’s if they run Zeb BUSH!!! There is WAY TOO MUCH negative press with the name!! course I guess that would still be under the stupid collumn!!

        • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

          Joe H:

The GOP got stuck with old Juan last time due to the wonderful independents who wanted someone like Juan. Then they voted for Der Fuhrer in the November election!

So, with the help of those same independents we could get sakkled with another looser in 2012 like Juan in 2008.

    • http://nONE LARRY

IT WILL BE DIFFICULT FOR OBAMA TO REPEAT AFTER COLLAPSING THE U.S. ECONOMY AS WELL AS RUINING THE BEST HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD. IF THE POWER OF THE UNIONS ARE DIMINISHED NEITHER OBAMA OR ANY OTHER DEMOCRAT WILL WIN THE PRESIDENCY FOR YEARS TO COME. OBAMA IS AS BAD, IF NOT WORSE THAN JIMMY CARTER, AND IF I RECOLLECT CORRECTLY, CARTER DID NOT WIN REELECTION. NOR DID LYNDON JOHNSON BY THE WAY. IT’S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO BEAT A BAD PRESIDENT. ON THE GOP SIDE, GEORGE H.W. BUSH WAS ALSO NOT REELECTED, NOR WAS GERALD FORD. NOR WAS WARREN HARDING, CALVIN COOLEGE AND HERBERT HOOVER.

    • Robert Wayne

I certainly hope a ‘right wing fanatic’ is nominated. These neocon RINOs who constantly cater to the Democrats are worthless. If the Republicans nominate another candidate like McCain there’s no sense in even bothering to vote. There’s no difference between a left wing communist radical like Obama and a phony Republicrat who’s just as worthless.

Buchannan was probably our first Gay president, since he had a relationship with the Secretary of the Treasury, I think.

    • Palin12

Buchanan was not gay (and not a very good president either). He was once engaged to be married but his fiancee died. He was devastated as a result and never married.

i think the first black hispanic gay union president is OBAMA this man was elected to represent all americans not just blacks hispanics gays and unions but when you have two left feet and both in your mouth and with your head up the afford name,s butt,s it got to be hard not to be pro union gay black and hispanic

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

In speaking all truth, regardless of your party, I do not see how any one can possible say, with the evidence in front of us, that this administration has not cause more division in these United States than any past administration in the history of the United States. Now people were so quick to blame Bush, Bush, Bush for everything last term, but the President isnt the one, its the union of the president and congress and the senate, and the democratic congress pretty much ruled the last one. So I cannot sit here like some, even though I dont care for the guy, and say Obama, Obama, Obama, because its not the man, its his party. He is just the face piece. He has clearly shown he has no leadership skills, and frankly, he has never exhibited any, so dont blame the man, blame the party. It takes a group to get things done, or not done, united or divided. Not one man.

      • bob wire

Place the blame at the right door step. Is it Obama that “caused” the division or is it people and there reaction to Obama?

I remember how hard it was explain to the judge why I was innocent and it was my wife that made me kick another mans assets. ~

It didn’t work very well and I learned something from the experience and I’ll share it with you.

You are responsible for what you say,do and think and no one else.

If you feel divided, it is you and people like you that decided that it to be so.

the info on the Presidents was enlightening.. there is probably a lot more we don’t know but should… Mark, lets hope you are incorrect on your opinion of the next president…..we don’t need another four years of American destruction…. the damage he has already done, will take more than four more years to undo/repair……this man is on a course to destroy the American way of life……he is the Commander in Chief of the greatest military the world has ever seen and he has not served one day in the service; he knows nothing of foreign affairs; he knows nothing of domestic affairs…………his only great skill..is bleeding the US Treasury and putting our great grandchildren in debt….. he promised “CHANGE”…. well my dear fellow Americans [especially you that voted him in] you are getting “Change”…. from your pocket to what ever he wants to do with it…….REDISTRIBUTION..

    • RB

Well said. I believe the only reason he wanted in office was to destroy America. Nothing about him speaks “American,” least of all his name. The presidant is supposed to represent the people of the U.S. but he is doing the worst job ever. Come 2012 the American People, the true Americans, need to vote for someone who is American at heart, was born and raised here, who loves this country, and who will make us look at least half-way decent to the rest of the world.

      • bob wire

So you would prefer a President name Snodgrass and then you “might” be pleased?

      • http://naver samurai

At least in the U.S. those 30% have the oportunity to elevate themselves through education and hard work.

The problem is that LBJ’s (really) Great Society has created a hammock, not a safety net.

Take your minority status over to Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, or even most European countries and see how well you live.

The poorest of our poor live much better than most of the world’s population.

      Carl:

Yep, Little Barry is doing exactly what he campaigned on, and more.

He amde a campaign statement to the effect that “We live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you join me in changing it”.

  • Palin12

I like Q.#15 the best….Al Bore did not win the presidency because his own people in Tennessee voted against him. Even Mondale, who won only ONE state against Reagan, won his home state of Minn.

    • bob wire

So the people of Tennessee are very bright in not supporting their own son?

Well wasn’t it Tennessee native that said , “You can go to hell Sir, I’m going to Texas” ?

I’m not sure what all of this means really or if there a point to be made.

      • Palin12

Yes bob, the people of Tennessee knew more about Gore than the rest of us did. If he had won his home state he would have won the election outright, no endless recounts, and no FL Supreme Court involvement. You do know that Gore lives in a 20-BR mansion in Nashville with a monthly electric bill of $2,500, nearly all of which is derived from fossil fuels, don’t you?

i agree that the damage has already been done we do not need another obama at allI Just pray to god to take care of him he is one ho cant be trusted at all anyone who screws up as muh he has don’t deserve the privledge of the office at all i will never vote for him hell i did not vote for him the first time

  • Dorothy Jones

Hey Chip thanks for the trivia.
Sorry people if you have not learned yet that Obama is going to do exactly as he pleases, because no one in Washington has the guts to stop him. We more than likely will be doomed before he gets out of office. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Obama can only do what congress lets him do. They are the ones with the power. The president by himself can do nothing. It takes the group.

      • http://deleted Claire

Beberoni: Thank you, for your common sense.

        • bob wire

Correct, ~ and let us watch this 112th congress play ball. So far I haven’t seen much in regards to addressing unemployment concerns while originally claiming the focus should be all about JOBS as early as march of 09. It seems they prefer to get in your bedroom and between you and your doctor. I wish their concerns for the born were equally as great as the unborn.

I suppose 50,000 dollar a years is just to much money for working people to make. They want working people in the public sector to be like me in the private sector, scratching for 27, 30 thousand a year. ~ Which is okay by me I guess, but who’s backs is government to ride the most, those that enjoy less or those that enjoy more? or should it be a equal burden to carry?

I prefer public workers to continue to make higher wages then myself. If they are to be knocked down 20 grand a year, what’s that going to do to me? ~ How can I continue to command what I do? They will have less money to pay taxes or to pay me. These are not the people that are hiding profits off shore, or double invoicing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to bring down 50 to 55 grand a year. ~ I don’t thing that’s too much to expect and raise and care for a family on.

But our Tea Party friends have decided to attack their own, don’t you know the top 5 % are laughing their ass off today. In such matters, the Tea Party is a puppet of the very things they protest against.

Okay, have it your way, ~ but I don’t think you have thought this completely through.

  • Dorothy Jones

Hey Chip I have a question. Shouldn’t all the politicians that skipped town beforced to resign? I do not care if they are Dmocrats or Republicans.

  • John Degges

Quite interesting. However, as President, Woodrow Wilson left the continental United States a few years before Franklin Roosevelt was President–he went to Paris in 1919. If you mean a man who left the continental U. S. when not President, Theodore Roosevelt went abroad after he was no longer President. Which Roosevelt was it? (#5)

Counting Woodrow Wilson as the first President to leave the continental U. S., I knew 20 out of the 25.

Been nice to wavy goodby to T.Roosevelt and Wilson on the Titantic.

It’s been said that normal people built the Ark. Union people built the Titanic.

  • Pastor Carmen

How can someone be President and not know how many state we have in the United States

    • John Degges

Why should schools in other countries give instruction as to how many states there are in our country? Obviously, the man was taught nothing about the basics of the United States.

I wonder what facts will be presented about this man after he leaves the office.

  • Robert Hauser

Who gives a damn?…..each of the latter day rogues that passes through what I now call the Blight House IS trivia personified. It reminds me of this old litany of presidential history….goes like this:

GEO. WASHINGTON demonstrated that it took a truly great man to be prez of this country…

ANDREW JACKSON heroically made it plain that this country could either have a government worthy of the name or a foreign jewish controlled banking system but not both.

ABE LINCOLN found out the hard way and quite fatally that you could “fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but never all of the people all of the time” and then six decades later…

FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT proved that as long as you had enough drooling mongoloid idiots composing the majority of the electorate, you didn’t even have to fool all of the people all of the time, just enough of them to keep you in office and you could be prez forever.

HARRY S. TRUMAN, who couldn’t even keep the doors open on a men’s haberdashery and who rode FDR’s coat tails into the White House proved that ANYBODY (and I do mean ANYBODY) could be prez.

DWIGHT DAVID EISENHOWER demonstrated that this country didn’t even need a president.

RONALD REAGAN and all who have come after him showed that this country would have been far better off without one.

Who was the first communist President?

    • http://gunner689 gunner689

      Bill Clinton, by proxy.

  • http://com i41

George McGovern the ’72 democrat presidental canidate, he was a registered communist even when he was a college professsor. FDR,Teddy R, Wilson, and all democat Presidents were soft communists but, it would be the Onumnutts who closest to being a communist/marxist President. Taking from the workers and giving to the screw off idoits has always been a democrat mantra. That is why the flat tax will never pass, too simple and it would put too many corrupt legal leeches out of work and they may ave to really do a honest days work for pay.

  • newspooner

Guess again. The first communist President was in the 1800′s and was not a Democrat.

Thank you Chip Wood for the quiz. I got all of them right. I would like to add one though. Q: Why was George Washington selected to be the Commander of the Armies? A: He showed up at the meeting to chose a commander in his full uniform. Thank you.

Did you ask Disney if the golf round count was up to date on Barry? It does not say in the article. What is the current comparison in numbers to date? How about rounds per month or year in office. What is the comparison?

A view from the north: Got 11 out of 25.. good guesses, mostly!
As one who has lived heavy duty socialism, “community worker” is synonymous with “socialist”. It was very obvious from the get- go that Ob. is a socialist interested in the demise, more or less, of America. Look at who has associated with, and is associating with (czars, advisors like Axelrod)
Government health care is a good way for big gov’t to control many, many aspects of life, and take a great deal of your money for stupid, criminal activities. Overall performance when intentions of gov’t employees, (doctors, nurses, technicians) is mediocre, at best.
God help us, is all I can say. Now with the boys getting big ideas about a caliphate, we will need to grow up, fast.

QUESTION??? Morally, does an American Citizen have the right of: Food, Shelter, an education and of health care and of nursing home care? Do you really want to live in a country that has beggars on the streets, elderly people living on cots in the streets, children running around with pot-bellied starved stomachs I sure do not and I do not mind paying taxes to provide social services for people that need them!

    • http://gunner689 gunner689

nor do we want to live in a country full of crack-heads and non-productive under achievers living off our tax dollars.

      • http://naver samurai

Well said gunner! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    Question:
which president, when as a state governor, stole money from his State Teacher’s Retirement Fund to pay for his failed re-election; then borrowed the money to put back from the Communist Chinese.

Hint: Same one who, as president, sold 50 yrs. of nuclear weapons secrets and top secret tele-`communication to the Red Chinese, to pay his debt; thus allowing them to make quantum leaps in weapons and missle guidence systems aimed at the USA.

Hint2: OK last hint. His wife is the Sec. of State for our Socialist Pres. and wants to turn over American’s basic freedoms to UN control.

Come on, think about it, It’ll come to you. OK, final, final hint for you ladies; He has nice hair.

    • http://gunner689 gunner689

Come on ladies, especially you liberals, you voted for him maybe twice. Your reasoning was that he was soooo good looking ! You overlooked all his attempted rape alligations and mistreatment of women because they were tramps and he was your hero. He felt your pain, remember. A regular male version of Oprah.
Now do you know who the mystery Pres. is ?

  • Earnest

Slick Willie Clinton dropped out of the scholarship program at Oxford University. Since he did not graduate, he cannot be called a Rhodes Scholar. He only went to dodge the draft here in the U.S.

    • http://gunner689 gunner689

And he spent part of that time travelling behind the Iron Curtain getting the Red Carpet treatment from the KGB.

  • chuckb

who voted for that guy and twice.

next they vote for a man they know very little about, his backers have erased most information pertaining to him, they proclaim him a christian when he was born to a mother who was an atheist, a father who was a devout muslim and adopted by another man who was a muslim. there is no record of his grandparents religion and he joined a black nationalist church ministered by a man who hates the united states.

    aren’t these liberals something.

    • http://gunner689 gunner689

they live in a land of delusions. Reality is something they can’t deal with, that’s why they’re always trying to change it. Liberalism is trully a mental disorder.

Well I guess Earnest and you win the cookie. I felt for sure Karolyn and some other air heads would own up to Slick Willie. Surely they’re not ashamed of their dream boy.

As for question 15, it was a good thing that Algore did not win election as POTUS. And let’s hope he never does!! I remember back in 1999, Rush Limbaugh and many conservatives were disillusioned by the Senate’s vote not to impeach Bill Clinton. But not me!! In fact, I stopped listening to Rush for awhile. Not only was I bored to death hearing about nothing other than Monica Lewinsky, but I thought it was a bad strategy to impeach Clinton and replace him with the ‘king of environmentalist wackos’ Algore!! Think about it. The 2000 election was so razor – thin close that Algore would’ve won if he had been the incumbent POTUS. And since Algore would’ve served less than 2 years of Clinton’s second term, he could’ve run for POTUS in both 2000 and 2004 under the 22nd Amendment. This means he could’ve had the longest tenure since FDR. I have little doubt that Algore would’ve been worse than Clinton. Is that what conservatives/republicans would’ve wanted?? Joe Biden may be a bumbling chatterer and an idiot, but Algore is beyond that. Algore is a fraud, who’s earned millions peddling the global warming scam. And of course Algore lives in luxury himself, rather than practice what he preaches!!
