Cody Lundin wants you to be prepared, not scared. It’s with that philosophy that he wrote When All Breaks Loose (Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes), and it’s why this is not your typical survival manual.

Lundin is the founder of the Aboriginal Living Skills School, an adjunct faculty member of Yavapai College and a faculty member at the Ecosa Institute, a frequent guest on television programs and the go-to guy as a survival expert. He teaches the things he has lived.

Whether you think your crisis will come as a result of a natural disaster, collapse of the government or something else, Lundin wants you to be prepared. And with this book he prepares you for survival in both an urban and rural setting.

This is not the type of book that you can leave on your shelf until disaster strikes. To be useful, it must be read beforehand. Because in it, Lundin covers every aspect of a survival scenario from mental or psychological preparedness to storing food and water to obtaining shelter to bugging out if necessary.

And the methods he teaches are tried and true. They are methods he developed himself after living in a Spartan-like manner in extreme conditions.

Of course he covers all the obvious survival subjects like food and water storage, water purification, shelter, emergency lighting, first aid and food preparation. But he delves deeper and gives you many real-life tips and suggestions you don’t get anywhere else.

By the same token, he doesn’t spend too much time covering some of the basics such as what foods to store, how much and how to store it. What he does do is introduce a new perspective on eating for survival and shedding the taboos that make you avoid certain foods that can keep you alive (including providing a couple of recipes for rat).

What Lundin accomplishes with this book is to prepare the reader for a long-term survival scenario. And he does it with humor and helpful cartoon characters interspersed throughout the book that provide you with what you need to stay alive when times get really tough.

When All Breaks Loose is an excellent survival manual and great companion book to Lundin’s 98.6 Degrees: The Art Of Keeping Your Ass Alive.
