We Are All Terrorists Now

The U.S. Senate is considering a bill (National Defense Authorization Act) that would designate the whole world, including U.S. territory, as a battlefield and subject American citizens in the United States to indefinite military detention without the benefit of trial and to attacks along the lines of the drone assassination of supposed terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki.

Many of you scoffed as right-thinking people noted with dread the consequences of President Barack Obama’s carte blanch “extrajudicial” murder of an American citizen based on the approval of a secret committee. If this bill is passed, then the Rubicon will have been crossed. America will have become a complete and possibly irreversible totalitarian military state.

Scoff again if you must, but do so at your own peril. Consider who the government designates as potential terrorists, according to its own missives: people who oppose Obama’s policies; people who stockpile food; people who oppose one-world government; Christians; military veterans returning from overseas engagements; people unhappy with the government’s actions at Waco, Texas, and Ruby Ridge, Idaho; and people opposed to gun control. The Department of Justice and FBI have even sent a form to military-surplus stores describing how to identify suspicious people and instructing them to watch for those who pay with cash; are missing fingers; have a strange smell; make bulk purchases of ammunition, meals ready to eat and flashlights; or who express a concern about privacy.

Coupled with recent news that police and military are now deploying drones over American cities, it’s easy to see — for those who care to look — exactly where we are headed. In the eyes of our government, we are all terrorists now and subject to permanent imprisonment or extermination.

      1. The comment on the drones. Not exactly true. the FAA is drawing up rules and guidelines for the use of drones for industries such as Agriculture, gas and oil pipeline, railroads, etc inspections and monitoring, air emissions testing, traffic monitoring etc. yes, drones can and probably will be used for police … but again, it’s what the GOP was screaming for since 9/11 and the “lead by fear” then GOP administration.

      The right cheered when the Patriot Act was passed…oh how I remember my opposition was denigrated as being “anti American’… and anyone who dared warn about the police powers it granted was castigated and decried. Well…ya got what ya asked for …

      As for the Senate bll mentioned. Who introduced it? Where is it sitting right now? Who are the sponsors? I know, I know. Minor issues …lol

      Finally, the “murder” of a US citizen. Would this be the nutjob in Yemen who was indicted, charges leveled, he was notified and refused to even hire an attorney to deny any charges etc. Who lived in the ME for several eyars and who published videos and rantings against Americans and the US urging terrorist acts? Funny how that may be the current cry…when the arrest and refusal to arraign Padilla was excused as he was held incognito for several years during the Bush administration.

      So y’all think Romney with his corporatist controllers will do us better?

Pretty much most of what everyone bashes Obama on can be laid at the feet of the GOP. Health care…supported by most of the GOP UP TO the time it was pushed by Obama. The auto bailout…now that the jobs are back, notice how many GOP Reps are crowding to the front to take credit? Same with infrastructure projects? Obama snuffed bin Laden, took on terrorists everywhere…and where now are those who supported similar tactics when Bush ran the show leading via fear?

            PJ, Eric, 2War…Where in my writing above did i state i support the provision as cited in the article? I was merely pointing out that those who prtest now…were silent when the usurption of our Rights, freedoms and liberies were underway.

            I very much doubt the provisions…or the Patriot Act found much support amongst the Liberal corwd. I know in the Moderates, there was little support…and much fear because that was the way the Constitution was attacked…via fear.

            Fact is….the Right was the most vocal in attacking our liberties during the Bush Admin. The Right was quick to denigrate anyone who dared voice opposition. No one here is staing support for either the Patriot Act nor this provision as detailed in the article. i am seeing more than a few calling the Right out on their current voicing of evil..when they praised such prior to this administration taking office.

Not only did we protest the original act but we foresaw the possibility for abuse of it in the future and the expansion of it as has happened under obama. You blame concervatives for the act but the fact of the matter is it had the support of many liberals as well or it would not have passed.

            Does ANYONE HERE……..SUPPORT the “patriot act”?

            If the answer is NO, then the dialog to this point is essentially pointless. Yet I am pretty sure that the nature of the nonsense following THIS post…..will continue this nonsense.

            I think ( and this could just be ME ) that an intelligent and reasoned
            solution to any area of disagreement usually has a better chance of success, if one can establish “common ground”.

            Someone posted a reply to me recently, saying that ( paraphrasing here ) that my posts would have a chance of being received better,
            if I didn’t present myself as intellectually superior…..but since my goal is seeking potential solutions and dispelling ignorance be it
            willful or otherwise, in order to prevent the ABUSE OF POWER which

            Now my question is, since I’m fairly certain that there will be no

            I did not like and specifically wrote and complained to my representatives about the patriot act from the very beginning. Over the years both administrations have added to it. This new threat is entirely on Obama’s watch so why are we still blaming bush?

      They are already stomping on the 4th and 14th Amendments of the Constitution at the airports every day. Every criminal in America prior to being searches, the police must have probable cause, to seize and examine their belongings, they must have a warrant, they must mirandize him and he has the right to legal counsel. TSA can pluck you from a line without probable cause, search your belongings and confiscate your belongings without a warrant, without mirandizing and without your right to legal counsel. People wake up, do not continue to be sheeple, don’t listen to the government saysing “we’re just trying to keep you safe”….that is bull….this is a test to see how much of your freedoms you will give up in order to “feel safe”, because believe me if a terrorists wants to take down a plane, he will figure out how to do it no matter how much you get groped or radiated. The Patriot Act needs to be abolished. If we don’t stand together, we will become Austria during Hitler’s reign. Get yourself a copy of a history book and read what happened to them…it is not good.

        Old H – Every time Congress passes a new law or the POTUS issues an EO, we are assured that it is for our own protection and not to worry. Those who raise eyebrows are scoffed at and called fear mongers.

        Yet, invariably, it isn’t long before that same law starts becoming the basis for the persecution of US citizens, which was always the intent, anyway. Our government has declared war on the People and, until more of us get that, we’ll just keep bowing down to the increasing oppression and tyranny.

        Can anyone really believe that drones will only seek out Al Qaeda, or that innocent Americans will never be detained? Maybe even disappear?

      From what I’ve seen and heard, both the left and the right are against this bill.

      On a related note, about a week or so ago someone on this site posted a link to a site that showed a “No Constitution” zone around all the borders of the U.S. Does anyone have any more info on that? Can that be true, that if you live within, say a hundred or so miles of the coast or the borders of Mexico or Canada we no longer have any Constitutional rights. If that’s true, who put that in place and why wasn’t it a big story on the news? Is that part of the Patriot act? If it is, can someone point to the section where that can be found? Sounds like something totalitarian governments would do. “May I see your papers, please”.

      Both the left and the right complain about losing constutional freedoms. It might be a good thing for both to unite to fight on this issue.

        Yes the 100 mile watch zone is in place and there are drones patroling it now with very sensitive visual capacity from 1000′s of feet above. This drone can see and identify persons standing on the ground. They are permitted to fly at but not over the US/CDN border. This is a travesty of “friendship” and another example of idiot paranoia by the PTB in the US.

        So far, according to a recent video, the visual sightings have no resulted in the apprehension of any illegal border crossing.
        I wonder if evbery boat crossing an international lake is monitored? there are enough lakes and rivers on the border to keep da BOYZ busy.

          Wow, yeah, I googled it and couldn’t believe that this was not all over the news or, at least, the talk shows. Plenty of links came up and I have only had time to check one or two of them. I still am not sure if this is part of the Patriot Act or if ir was instituted seperately by Homeland Security. I’m also really surprised that I haven’t heard more about this on this site since there are so many posters complaining about our loss constitutional rights and freedoms. Hell, this would be a great example of that.

          I didn’t find any examples of police abusing it yet but just the idea of being a U.S. citizen without any Constitutional rights is scary. Has it resulted in any terrorists caught yet.

      That is rather surprising to hear Al say “they will be rounding us up”. You all need to go back and read your comments and the vile language used to attack OWS protesters. Even when protesters were calmly sitting or standing you cheered on the police state in spraying and beating them. You rounded them up like so much cattle and thought that was great. Well your demand for “law and order” is very telling in what you would do in imprisoning the populace. To hell with free speech and assembly as long as you can beat the protesters down. Sadly you are getting the gulag you say you don’t want and you all want to be the prison guards.

        The only calmly sittting or standing protesters I ever saw were the ones who had bothered to get permits. Who stayed in the area they said they would. Who didn’t stay for weeks. Who didn’t block traffic, Who didn’t shout down opponents. Who didn’t beat up opponents. Who didn’t wreck havoc.

    You undermined your point by making the Awlaki case part of your argument. Awlaki had left the US and was a commander in a war against the United States.

    The operative historical precedent is in the spring of 1864. Leonidas Polk was the Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana, a West Point grad, and a US citizen. He was also a Lieutenant General in the Confederate Army, commanding a corps in a war against the United States.

      Americans haven’t always been spoiled children. Americans used to be the strongest, brightest and most innovative. Not to mention the most charitable and caring.

      It was carefully planned to make us the people we’ve become, convincing us that we are to depend on government for everything, that it exists to be a sugar-daddy rather than to protect us from our enemies so we can be free to pursue life in safety from enemy attack. Now, it is government who IS our enemy, and who attacks us on every front, insuring that we are stymied from pursuing excellence.

      Even now, as our government has us sold out to world corporate interests, we continue to look to them for answers. Well, they have one, but we aren’t going to like it. But, if we keep depending on THEM to come up with a solution, we will be too tired, sick, beaten and hungry to argue with them.

      Why not come up with our own solutions? Forget government. Sure, they’ve regulated us to the point where we CAN’T operate WITHIN the system, but hey…let’s come up with our own system. After all, money is what we all agree it is. BigBro will say it’s a chip. What do WE say?

      Do we still have any of the pioneer spirit within us? Where is that rugged, American, CAN DO attitude?

      We need to stop giving away all of our power, waiting for the elite to come up with answers. THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. And their solutions will benefit themselves only, becuause they are afraid that we will recognize that they’ve been setting us up all along.

      BTW, this means also learning to care for our own health, because the medical system is rapidly becoming another weapon against us.

      Senators Rand Paul and Mark Udall have tried getting the bill amended to remove or alter the language. The ACLU is also fighting it.

      Plus, you have a major U.S. Presidential candidate (Newt Gingrich) who advocates stripping Americans of citizenship if they speak out against the government and a President who shown he has no qualms about murdering U.S. citizens without trial.

      The same people who once said the Patriot Act will be used only against terrorists are now telling you that this bill will only apply to terrorists. Bah! This is a fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, scenario. I wasn’t fooled the first time and I won’t be this time either.

      This bill also overturns 133 years of precedent of the posse comitatus act.

I would surmize that there will have to be a comprimize bill with the senate after they pass their version, so who knows what a final version will contain.

You can search for the article and find it. I am not so convinced that he was guilty of conducting 911, but thats inmaterial. What is material is he should have been given a trial as an American Citizen before receiving the death penalty. Heck, he should have had at least 2 trials plus given the opportunity to appeal both. A trial to determine guilt and one to determine if the death penalty is appropriate if he was found guilty.

        He wasn’t given a trial because why if one was given the truth might actually come to light.. The government who has a repeated history of countlessly lying to us couldn’t have the truth come out…

The Fifth Amendment directive that no citizen shall be deprived of life except by due process of law applied to al-Awlaki as it does to every one of us. The most important time to defend core Constitutional principles is when it is inconvenient or unpopular to do so.

    As an example of the police state overreach, Lancaster, California now deploys an “eye in the sky” drone to monitor activity on the streets. Citizens are assured that it is intended only as an adjunct to law enforcement and that the government will not use it in a way that would abuse that power. We can all rest assured.

I think Levin & McCain need to be on their way to Gitmo, just my opinion, but they are not the only ones in favor of this & I honestly believe that it will be passed both in the House & the Senate. Bilderberg tells them how high to jump & they had better obey! WHY isn’t anyone declaring that all this & more has been in the workings for decades…OWO is well on it’s way. How can we stop it? I only have faith in the Lord to help us; not politicians, money, & ofcouse the U.N. is going to do it’s dirty work as the New World Order continues to grow just the way the Bilderbergers want it! THEY are the ones that have been working on this for many decades & we’re the ones that are giving them OUR money to support that rotten entity!!

    The scenario that this suggests may not be very far fetched. There have been many who have suggested that the government has already built “concentration” type facilities for just such a situation. They are known as FEMA centers. I can’t say if what the proponents of this situ are on the mark or not but it certainly seems to be at the least coincidental & more that a bit scary.

      The stakes are really high now…it’s an all-or-nothing game…each man for himself. They’ve all come together now, uniting against US.

      They have a choice. They can represent the people, and be destroyed, or they can play the NWO game and live in splendor while America burns. How many among us would choose otherwise.

      We the people don’t choose them. We vote the way the media tells us to vote. We get this NWO pick or that one, the R or the D. Their campaigns are funded by the NWO elite, and they are bought off with corporate money, insuring they remain as long as they serve their masters. They don’t feel they owe the people anything…we are just a bunch of sheep.

    You know guys, I realize to many of you that this may sound naive, but the more I think on this stuff, the less I’m convinced of it.

    I see the “signs” the same as everyone else. There are a lot of things happening that are less than normal. If you follow the alleged trail, it certainly can seem like there is a conspiracy as so many claim there is.

    But any time I really sit down and get to thinking about it all, I’m always faced with the selfsame dilemma. Why? What’s the motivation?

    Kate posted an article, for example, outlining the destruction of American sovereignty. Why would any American want such a thing? That reduces the power of those in charge rather than increase it. Why would they want the currency to collapse? That would take the power of philanthropic socialism out of their hands rather than strengthen it, since it is our international trade currency status that allows us to continue to spend as we do. Why would any person in power want to take us from being the most powerful nation on earth, answerable to no one, and put us under the thumb of some one world government?

    When I think about these questions, the random alleged motivations I hear from people remind me of the motive for Harrison Ford’s character in the Fugitive. He was a doctor. He was rich. But he killed his wife so he could be more rich. The idea is simply ludicrous.

    I don’t know how many of you are active enough in politics that you actually watch the floor debates and other hearings, but I am, and I do. What I can tell you from watching these people is that each and every one of them appears to me to be of three camps. One group wants to please its constituency by being true to our Constitution. The second wants to please its constituency by doing what they think is right for them. The third wants to please them by providing for them. In all three cases, it is my observation that they don’t make their decisions based on any malicious designs. In many cases, I’ve even found that their decisions are based upon stupidity rather than malice.

    Take McCarthy, for example. She pushes gun control at every opportunity. But is that because she is pushing an agenda to disarm the people in anticipation of the coming police state? Or, like my own mother, does she just hate guns? My father was an alcoholic, and a very violent man. When I was young, barely one year old, he started hitting me. So my mother, who had dealt with the beatings prior to that, finally left for my sake. When she did, my father pulled the classic, “I got two bullets in this gun” routine. So my mother, if she were in office, would vote yes for every gun control bill that hit the floor. She and I have had many arguments over the topic.

    As another example, consider Rep. Hank Johnson, the Democrat from Georgia. Here’s a man who questioned Admiral Robert Willard, a heavily decorated Naval Commander, and made it known that he was concerned the island of Guam might capsize if there are too many troops on it.

    In Ron Paul’s book, End the Fed, he mentions that he was approached privately by a fellow member of the Financial Services Committee and asked whether the dollar was backed by gold, “up until then [he] assumed,” Paul says, “that it was.” (pg. 114)

    So in all truth, I am having a difficult time getting behind the idea of a far reaching government conspiracy to deliberately institute a police state. It seems to me that the things that are happening are just logical conclusions to bad decisions. If a teenage boy and girl are dating, find themselves alone in a private place where they won’t be disturbed, make out, start fooling around, it’s inevitable that they’re going to end up having sex if it goes on long enough. Once they’ve had it, they’ll keep having it as opportunities present themselves, but with much less hesitation or inhibition. Ultimately, the girl is going to end up pregnant. Speaking generally, the girl was not conspiring to ruin her own life at the age of fourteen. Getting pregnant was just the natural and inevitable outcome of a long chain of foolish decisions, spawned by a desire to please someone else who was pushing her to a thing that she may or may not have wanted to do in the first place.

    All I’m saying is, try to look at the current events from a different perspective. Not everything is a government conspiracy. Sometimes it’s just government stupidity.

      I understand your observations, but also know there are people who don’t think like the average person. I beleive it’s about money and power. yes, they have power now, but in a OWG they could increase their power and riches, not all of them, only those who are favored by the leaders, but which of them will fall and which will rule is up for grabs, no-one thinks they are the ones to be omitted from their spot.As far as being stupid decisions,there are unscrupulas people out in the world who will always use the “usefull idiots” to acheive their goals,I don’t beleive all of the people in russia after the commies took over beleived their country would turn out the way it did, they revolted to better their plight in life, but were taken over by power hungry people who condemed them to a terrible fate.I don’t beleive all of the people in govt. are out to destroy and enslave America, but the coarse being taken makes it easier for it to be done, so, in the long run it doesn’t matter if by choice or stupidity, they are taking us to the same place.
