Washington State Prisoners Allowed To Vote, Ruling Decrees

January 12, 2010 by

Washington state prisoners allowed to vote, ruling decreesA federal appeals court in the state of Washington ruled last week that incarcerated felons should be allowed to vote because the current law violates the Voter Rights Act by discriminating against minorities.

The lawsuit, brought forth by six minority convicts, argued that because nonwhites make up the majority of the incarcerated population, barring them from voting is an act of racial prejudice, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Judge A. Wallace Tashima stated that the lawsuit "demonstrated that police practices, searches, arrests, detention practices and plea-bargaining practices lead to a greater burden on minorities that cannot be explained in race-neutral ways," quoted by USA Today.

The ruling, which was approved by a 2-1 majority, may have an effect on voting regulations nationwide.

"They are issues that permeate the justice system and are relevant in every state," said Marc Mauer, director of the Sentencing Project, a prison reform group, according to the AP.

State Attorney General Rob McKenna said he would appeal the ruling, either to a larger circuit panel or directly to the Supreme Court. Currently only Vermont and Maine allow prison inmates to vote.

This is proof that the insanity of liberal political thought is out of control. Criminal don’t have rights to vote or be involved in the political process (of course that doesn’t explain Congress), otherwise they can start new law binding initiatives that make legal the very acts of criminal activity they’ve been lockedup for. That’ll never happen you say, just look at what Washington State has done…Hmmmmmm.

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

Thank goodness for Bob Livingstons postings keeping us all abreast of what really is going on and from all of your Bloggers. Anyway, did you all notice that Vermont and Maine let their inmates vote!!!!! What an abomination. Hey this is better than being on Welfare (some states actually make you work) Free Meals, plus all the other freebees including sex. Why do you think that the ratio is so high.

    • Larry McKinley

So we should put all the Republicans in Jail.

        AND LIBERAL DEMACRATS

        • Claire

          What about ALL politicians???

  • Unbelievable

Um, did I just read that right? They are making a case that because more minorities make up the prison population it is a race issue? LMAO! Wow. Ya know, I thought once you violated the law (and I DO understand that there are those detained unjustly, but non-the-less) your “punishment” was not having the ability to act like a normal citizen until you’ve served your time and “earned” those privileges back.

    • Larry McKinley

This is just another way to build a voting base for the in-power politicians to attempt to maintain their control. It doesn’t surprise me that the Obama Machine wants to build a large voting population using illigal aliens and now felons. I can understand why they would want the prison population to vote, for it is the conservative movement that put the individuals behind bars. Allowing them to vote we are really moving closer to making the inmates in charge of the system. Although I still believe that the United States is the greatest place to live I am not going to be foolish enough to believe that we don’t need to pay more attention to our freedoms. Commit a crime lose a right. I suspect the next thing we will do is allow felons to buy guns. Oh yeah I forgot they already get guns.

    • Karen West

I liked your comment hit it right on the button. I was informed by a guy that served for the U.S. Army of this and had to look it up for myself. WOW the end is truly comming close at hand I say very close at hand. Alls I can say is be prepared my friend.

Everybody…get your passports ready. Obama and his criminals can have this damn place after the blacks have trashed it!!

I know a lot of Blacks that are good, hardworking, familymen just like yourself!! Most of the ones I know are conservatives as well! We don’t need your comments dividing us even more and handing the job right back to O-man in 2012!!1

CONVICTS – JAIL BIRDS GAVE UP THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE WHEN THEY CHOSE TO NOT BE A PART OF SOCIETY!!! HOW DARE THIS INSULT-GIVING THESE PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO VOTE!! IT IS JUST MORE INTIMIDATION TO SQUEEZE OUT VOTES FOR THE THUGS WHO ARE IN OFFICE. SO, I’M OFFENDED. NOW WHAT? OR DOES THAT MATTER UNTIL I COMMIT A CRIME AND WANT MY RIGHTS?!!! CRIMINALS DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHO IS IN OFFICE. THEY MAY BE PART OF SOCIETY THAT IS BEHIND BARS! THIS WHOLE TOPIC DISGUSTS ME!

    • Larry McKinley

You ave no idea what you are talking about, and you could be behind bars next week.

The sad part is that our government is now the Mafia. Who better to get votes from then your members, where else do you find them, oh, question answered.

Why not just take votes from tribes in Africa, and lets not forget the middle east areas, thats about the same logic displayed by this judge, and our great leaders in DC.

HEY, I HAVE A FOREIGNER AS PRESIDENT!!!

NOW, WE”LL HAVE A BUNCH OF “ILLEGALS AND PRISONERS” KEEP THE “GOVERNMENT MOB” IN POWER!!!

    • marie

Obama is NOT from a foreign country, unless Hawaii is no longer a state. Undocumented illegal persons cannot vote, whether or not a felon. Even documented legal residents cannot vote. Only citizens of the US can vote.

A person can be a legal US citizen and still be considered a minority, because of his race, religion or color. but that does not change his status as a US citizen.

This involves US citizen prisoners, who are of a minority population, wanting to vote even though convicted and imprisoned for a felon. An undocumented illegal alien could not petition for the right to vote…Period

      • American Citizen

Bullfeathers! As has been said, you commit a crime, you lose your rights. It shows you don’t give a d–n about this country and its laws. Why should they be allowed to vote?

Someone is using color as an excuse! Voting criminals, someone is crippled to high for crutches! This country REALLY has lost it’s mind!!

What did you expect. This is just the beginning, illegals will be voting too. This is how the liberals expect to win in Nov and 2012. If you think Accorn is not being funded you are dead wrong. This is the tip of the iceburg my friends. Corruption breeds more corruption. OH by the way all dead people will be allowed to vote too. You can’t vote more than 10 times and transportation will be provided. Why shouldn’t illgals vote The President of the US ISN’T A CITIZEN. NEED I CONTINUE??? wake up America.

I think we need prison reform. I think we need to make them BACK into prisons where cells are locked 24/7. When they are, no inmates can take over a prison. They do not deserve free TV, exercise yards, meals, etc., all at society’s expense because they CHOOSE not to live by society’s rules. We should go to (I hate to say it….) Islamic laws about crime. Steal once, cut off you hand and let you go. Do it again, the other hand, and again, we let you go. The punishment itself makes it harder to commit the same crime again – but society does NOT pay for prolonged lockup, guarding, and all the living expenses of the criminal – he’s back on the streets to make his (or her)own way. If you kill, and are convicted, it will be a short trip out back pf the courthouse to where you are shot. End of story. End of endless appeals at the taxpayers expense. We’re TIRED OF THIS CRAP. CRIMINALS NEED TO PAY FOR THEIR ACTS -quickly and cheaply. WE do not need to pay to support them forever. I believe it is more humane to shoot a murdered than to keep them in a cell for 40 years…after all, we already NKOW that THEY do not place a great value on human life, or they would not have done what they did. We spend so much time and effort protecting criminals ‘rights’ (when they should have none, having chosed to give other’s none) that we forget to punish them for their crime. I don’t CARE if they’re ‘sorry’. I don’t CARE if they now have religion. They need to pay for what they already did. Giving them the right to vote is ridiculous. If they are claiming this is race-related, I’d say it doesn’t matter. NO criminal, of ANY race, including mine, should have these ‘rights’. It is not as if white criminals or some other race-criminals ARE being allowed to vote, and their race is not – so their claim is invalid.

    • Disgusted

I also think we need prison reform. It is rediculous that the criminal should have rights. What about the rights of the victims? Here in WI we actually have a murderer who tried to kill himself after he killed his wife – unfortunately he lived – his face is mutilated from the gunshot would and my tax dollars are going to pay for reconstructive surgery. The murder was five years ago and they are saying he needs the surger to stay alive. I say Bullsh&t. If he hasn’t died in 5 years he is obviously eating ok and breathing ok – why does he need surgery…let him live with his injuries…at least he is alive! Criminals rights? This is ludicrous. You lose your rights the minute you make the decision to break the law and mark yourself as a person who rejects normal society.
I say put Joe Arpaio (Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff) in charge of this countrys prison system – he has some great ideas in Arizona and he would be the perfect man for the job!

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

To carry your story a litle further. Besides the hand bit which is very true. The reason besides the obvious of cutting off hands is that they eat with one hand and wipe with the other. Their toilets, we call them bomb shelters, are holes in the floor with a spigot to wash you hand when finished however no toilet paper. You get the picture. In their jails, unless you have family or friends to bring you blankets, food, all of your esentials, you will starve to death because you are not feed. You are thrown into a cell with nothing – that is it. And oh boy if you are a women, forget it!!!! You are put into a compound and have to work off your fine along with buying food and esentials – None of the incarcerations in most countries except Europe are paid for by the various governments. Even in the bible God says that if your child is disrespectful or bad, it is the father’s obligation to kill that child.

    • David

You don’t want Islamic law in this country. It sounds good at first as a response to this kind of stupid decision made by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals; known for making this kind of ruling. In Islam you lose your head for your religion, if it is not Islam. We need to get back to having sanity in our government. Right now we are being ruled by a mob of thugs. We can’t get rid of them since they control who gets nominated and funded. I believe Tashima was a Clinton appointee. Study your Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence; and call your congressman when they make this kind of decision.

    • American Citizen

No, no,no, we don’t want Sharia law, it’s barbaric. We’re better than that. Ask any prisoner, being locked up and not being able to come and go as you please is punishment enough. Did your parents ever ground you when you were a teen? Think about it.

      • Joe H.

        American,
Sorry, I disagree about the “teen” comment. These are not teens they are full grown men and women!!! Make them work daily or cut their food by 1/4. Let’s face it, when we had the chain gang, only the most hardened criminals ever wanted to come back to repeat!!! Most did everything they could to stay off the gang for the rest of their lives. I have heard of convicts now doing small crimes to get sent back cause it’s too hard on the outside!!! That’s when you know that they have it too easy!!!

      • Claire

We were dirt poor when I was a little kid. My mother made all of our clothes, including our underwear. We were tenant farmers. But by gosh, my Mother sure taught me and my sisters that you never steal, keep yourself clean, no lying, no cheating. She taught us to have pride even though we were so poor. She drummed this into our heads. She taught us right from wrong. She taught us that we would have choices in our lives, and be sure to make good ones. She taught us respect and manners. We played outdoors, in the woods, on the hill, and had the simple life. We did not have toys and stuff like kids have now. We had to use our brains. Heck, we didn’t have TV until I was a junior in high school. Things have sure changed.

    • Larry McKinley

What idiocy! Convicts voting. Isn’t there some law about losing certain rights upon conviction? Moral turpitude and all that! When are the poor and blacks realize they are being thrown peanuts to vote for Democrats, many of whom really don’t like them. Of the 70 programs to help the poor, only one helps the poor get out of poverty. The current administration’s new programs are putting most of us INTO poverty who weren’t there before.

They have to. I’m am not convinced that Obummer really won the election. I forget the small town in the Carolina’s that my friend was visiting on business dring the elections however, a group of people (I’m not sure it was ACORN) picked up nuts out of the local nut house and took them to the poles, went in with them to assist in voting. I knew this first hand.

A lot of people are forgiving saying that this is insanity but it’s not. It’s planned, it is a plan to stuff the ballot box with bad law and control of the courts, it is a plan to steal your right to vote your mind and I know even as I write this there will be many willing to guffaw what is being stated and ignore the obvious.

There is plans in congress for this year to pass a universal voting law and that will include illegals as well as criminals and protect the motor voter law which is a way for many to vote early and often, stuff the ballot box. This is not hysteria it is common fact and knowledge, just like the corruption of gun laws to prohibit private citizens from owning weapons and making government the only legal entity. Don’t believe me, but read about Hillary Clinton and this administration making a deal with the UN to interfere with the ownwership of private weapons. The infformation is out thre but it probably won’t be for much longer, the MSM is willingly going to ignore giving you anything that may help you protect yourself and will misinform you of your dwindiling rights.

    • Joe H.

      ONTIME,
I can’t help but be reminded of an article I read in our newspaper about a small town where 300 people voted for O-man. The problem was there were only 267 living residents in the town and some of those were too young to vote!!!!!

  • Marine Mom

I can believe it! Washington has turned into another San Francisco. I say we let them be there own state, and they and Ca. can go off and live on their own without the rest of us having to listen to their stupid laws and wanting us to follow along!

    • MH

It’s the west side WA liberals doing this crap. We conservatives on the east side have been trying for years to split WA into two separate states. No matter – I want OUT!!! The Seattleites can have all the illegals, too.

  • http://Don'thaveone Sally

    Yes, Marine Mom
Wouldn’t it be nice if like you say California and DC can be their own country and collect taxes from each other. The rest of us will start over with only the constitution and the bill of rights. We won’t let them immigrate either – our borders are closed for a while.
I know we can’t do that but myyyyyyyy what a thought. I guess we look for a very large island somewhere and start over.

I can remember when I was in elementary school, we were taught that those who were incarcerated could not vote. We all know that most prisoners are liberal (oops, there I go profiling again). However thats why the liberals want them to be able to vote. If the majority of prisoners were Republican, Conservative it wouldn’t be mentioned (prisoners voting). Another example of liberal BS. Watch out folks they (liberals) are on a rampage. What nonsense will they come up with next?

  • Elmer Peterman

    Hi,
Hopefully this decision will be appealed to the Us Supreme Court!
This type of logic is not the American Way.

  • Miriam

In Texas all you have to do is be convicted of a felony and you can not vote. I feel if you want oto participate in what goes on in your state or America you should think of this before commiting a crime. As it is said Crime does not pay.

    • Joe H.

      Miriam,
Evidently in some states it does!!!!

  • Raggs

I hate changing the subject agian. We all know it is corruption driving this….. But on another note… Fox news has just reported that the FDA want’s to pass a new law limiting the amount of salt in processed food’s nothing new I’m sure but this is linked to the health reform bill…. So what this mean’s is that they will tell you everything you can and cannot eat or drink or at least limit your intake. Smoking / Chewing or Drinking will largely be regulated.

I have to agree that a lot of salt is not a good thing, but however the impact this is going to make and the restriction’s to come on all thing’s one put’s into YOUR body will be regulated by the government.
As with all thing’s these THUG’s tell you is that it’s for your own good or we know what’s best for you.

OB is not my Nanny!!!! I don’t need him!!!! I don’t need any of them!!!!

Thing’s are fixing to get ugly!!!

    • American Citizen

I’m not sure if it’s the FDA, but it’s New York that has it in the works. However, if you are on a low salt diet, or salt free diet, it’s hard to eat out. You can taste the salt and seasonings are supposed to be used sparingly. I have to read labels when I shop. Food manufacturers can use herbs and other seasonings besides salt to make food taste good.

    • DaveH

This is the downside of “free” Healthcare. They will want to legislate your food choices and other life choices because “if you get injured, society will have to pay your medical bills”.
The more Socialism we accept, the more freedom we give up.

    • Joe H.

      Raggs,
Actually sea salt will lower your blood pressure in manageable amounts and it tastes better!!!

      • Claire

Joe H–Sea salt is much better than regular salt. I have to be sure that my husband uses it, he has so many health issues. It is better for a person that has high blood pressure. The only problem, I have to sneak it in the house and quickly put in the salt shaker so he won’t know.
Another thing, the sodium in frozen TV dinners and other frozen goods is really high in content.

  • chuck b

i think anyone who is incarcerated or on welfare should not be allowed to vote, originally only land owners could vote and that has its merit.
the liberals now are wanting prisoners to vote yet they do their best to keep the military out of the voting process.

  • D.

Hmmmm….Some states will allow incarcerated felons to vote, but do all they can to exclude the votes from our armed forces serving over-seas. Something is very wrong with this picture. There is a reason the people are in prison…they broke the law…they should have no rights. I have an idea…let’s put all the “left wing nuts” on an island with all the prisoners…then they can do whatever they want. Why should our very best (intelligence services, military, police, law enforcement, etc.) risk their lives on a daily basis to protect liberals who have absolutely no concept of the reality of danger they face from dangerous people who would like to do them harm, including terrorists. Yes…terrorists are real, they do exist. The “elitist” attitude of the “left”…an attitude like Queen Pelosi and Prince Harry…that we “serfs” are here to bow before them, and cater to their every wish and desire…like their legislation that is destroying our country, and ultimately us…is the epitomy of hypocrisy. They don’t deserve to be protected when they treat our law enforcement and military with such disdain.

  • Rick Quill

This decision really doesn’t surprise me nor should it surprise anyone else when you consider all the many ways that this administration has been trashing the Constitution, bypassing oversight regulations, putting socialists/communists in positions of power, etc. this past year. At the same time they are doing their best to obviscate absentee voting such as the military members serving overseas. We saw this in Minnesota after the 2008 elections and how Franken won. I would wager that had ALL ballots been counted that Coleman would have come out on top. The biggest issues there was the throwing out of absentee ballots and, surprise surprise….the
Secretary of State was in the pocket and huge supporter of ACORN.
But this isn’t the end of it…….next we’ll be seeing Obama and his corruption specialists pushing to give voting rights to the Gitmo detainees.

    • marie

Judges are failed Lawyers. They put innocent people in Jail Because they have more failed lawyers acting as Prosecutors.
People in Jail makes jobs for ignorant people to watch the inmates.

  • Raggs

All of this is JUST the begining.
You have not seen anything yet.

I SEE, THAT THE US SENATE HAS REVERTED TO THE 1920S CHICAGO MAFIA FORM OF BUSINESS. THE PROCESS OF BUYING AND SELLING VOTES. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I LIVE IN ARKANSAS AND DO NOT SEE ANY INCENTIVES FOR THE PEOPLE OF MY STATE. IT,S LIKE AN AUCTION WHERE THE SENATE IS TRYING TO SELL A FAT HOG SUPPLIED BY THE TAXPAYER. EACH LEGAL AMERICAN, (ILLEGALS ARE IFFY), HAS ONE VOTE TO SELL AND THE QUESTION NOW IS, HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH, OR SIMPLEY SAID, WHAT,S IN IT FOR ME, WHAT DID MY SENATORS GET FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. SOME CALL THIS PROCESS NEGOTIATONS, SOME CALL IT BRIBERY, CORRUPTION, GRAFT,PAYOLA,BOODLE, BLACKMAIL OR MANY OTHER WORDS, HOWEVER THE RESULTS ARE BASICALLY THE SAME. BUT WASHINGTON RARELY CALLS ANYTHING BY ITS REAL NAME!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO COME ON ARKANSAS SENATORS, GET IN THE FIGHT OR GET OUT OF THE RING, THE RULES HAVE CHANGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE READ IN THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES ARTICLE 2 SECTION 4- DISQUALIFICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • American Citizen

IN reality, it’s legalized thievery by the government.

  • Tinwarble

Let me get this straight, you can commit a crime and go to jail. Then once your there, you still get vote, have conjugal visits, you don’t have to work if the weathers bad, you get to sit around and watch TV or go outside and work out or play basketball, you can go to the library and read a book, you can get free education or learn a skill and if you play well with others you only have to serve 3 months on a 10 yr. sentence.

Hey, that sounds like a pretty nice vacation spot.

  • Mona

People are in prison because they didn’t have sense enough to run their own lives. Most likely they wouldn’t have sense enough to vote for the best candidate. I guess the Liberals will need all the votes they can get in our next election.

  • DaveH

You guys aren’t going to like this, but I think our criminal justice system takes the wrong course. If we really want to decrease crime we need to change things.
We let them out of their cells to play games and other activities with their fellow inmates. It is like sending them to Crime College. Whatever crime tricks they don’t already know they can learn from their fellow inmates. And then if and when they are released they carry the baggage of ex-convict with them when they try to get a job or otherwise live a normal life. How can we expect them to embrace life without crime when they can’t get a damn job?
I would shorten their sentences and keep them in their cells until their sentence is up. They should be provided a few basic exercise needs (chin-up bar, some dumbells, etc.), toilet, bunk, and no TV.
They would be allowed to obtain books from the Library to read. They would have no contact with prisoners, and even the guards would not be allowed in their cells except in cases of emergency and always with 2 or more guards present. This would prevent random abuse by guards or prisoners. I know you say they would deserve it, but I think they should suffer the sentence dictated by the Jury and only that sentence. Then for those who have served their sentences, the record should be kept private to all but sentencing juries if they commit another crime, so they can become normal people again if they want.

    • Tinwarble

      DaveH,

What do you mean we might not like this, it sounds pretty good to me. But it needs a little modification, like, instead of reading books make them do hard labor rain, sleet, snow or shine, that would also take care of their exercise needs. Oh, and if they are repeat offenders, they get put in, what would be essentially a fish bowl, and never get to be let out. And if they are murders, then those people get to go to a little place like Gitmo where they are away from society.
If prison is really bad place to go, unlike the resorts they are now, no one will want to go in. But your idea of keeping them in their jail cell, when not doing hard labor that is, is a good one.

      • American Citizen

Years ago, when we travelled down South, we saw chain gangs working alongside the roads/highways. That would also save the states money.

        • Claire

I agree about the chain gangs. I cannot believe prisoners have the life of Riley. Workout facilities, TV, they get fed good food, and they live better in prison then when they were on the streets. What is wrong with this picture??? If a person becomes a criminal, they pay for their crimes. At least they should but a lot of them get by with it. If a person ends up in prison, they should never receive the perks they get now. No TV, no workout facilities, no nothing!!! It makes me sick.

          • Claire

Maybe I am hard-nosed but criminals had/have choices in life. They could be decent people and try to live a decent life. But no, they chose to steal, murder, lie, cheat, and do the unimaginable crimes. I have no sympathy for them. And the crap about a “rotten childhood” is a cop-out in a lot of the cases. If a person steals, chop off a finger or two. If they are stupid enough to keep stealing let them lose an entire hand. I bet that would stop the stealing. Likewise in other crimes, pedophiles and rapists would be neutered. Murderers would be executed. All of these comments would apply only if the person was truly found guilty. What I have just said here is probably very radical, but gee whiz, I am sick of paying for their keep. Do you realize what it costs to house one person in prison? From what I read, it is beyond belief!!

    • Joe H.

      DaveH,
there is one part I would disagree with. If they are child molesters or rapists then the record should never be kept quiet!!!! Let all who live near where he or she lives know!!!!

  • doctorblack

The inclusion of prisoners in the vote is the way liberal marxist muslims get their lunacy included in the process. Ponder this: The prezbo is a illegal alien muslim. All his czars are marxist/muslim. A great deal of the admin is muslim and illegals. All of the obama supporting agencies are communist/atheists/marxists/muslims/illegals.
BTW the prisons now get a FREE college education, courtesy of the tax payer. I know, because I teach at a secure prison in the south. Also, MOST of the prison (90%) is illegal, black/muslim, gang members and they RULE the prison. The prison has a multitude of ‘agencies’ that cater to the prisoners every whim. Every thing is done for them, they get free food, medical, mail, education and lawyers. When they get out most are back within 30 days because its a gravy train for them. Where else can they get everything you work your arse off to provide for your families? Satellite TV, movies, gymnasiums, etc, etc.
THey roam up and down the halls and the prison guards bring them everything they want from the outside. Hell even the female guards furnish them with sex. The prisoners have a better life than some of you do. Obama and his marxist/muslim gangs are screwing the nation.

  • c lee

Does this really suprise anyone. The present administration encourges illegal and unlawfull behaveiour. They incourage illegal immigration,ie Mexicans and cubans. They incourage criminals in politics, just look at the people surrounding obamma. They are illegaly shoveing health care down our throats. They are actively dismantleing the constitution daily. Look at the crimminal afiliations of most of obammas appointees. This is just one more nail in the coffen of freedom and democrocy. Heil obamma. Learn how to say it because it will be required.

  • Janelle From TN

So if they pass this all the prisoners will want to go to Washinton so they can vote. Cool I’ll pay for the first 10 bus loads. *wink*

  • cr747

The Government in Washington is making prisoners out of,”WE THE PEOPLE.” If we don’t step up and put a stop to this MUSLIM bunch, and congress, our rights will be less than what the prisoners have now. We have people in the White house that should be in a prison. The ones that didn’t pay their taxes, etc.

It is time,”WE THE PEOPLE,” take our COUNTRY BACK. The Government is breaking the LAW each and every day, and we are allowing it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • particlewoman

For everyone’s information, most Washingtonians have good values and abhor these types of attacks by the crazy leftists in our state. There is an overwhelmingly radical portion of people in certain counties that make all of our lives as voters miserable. Sad, such a beautiful place to live as far as scenery goes…

  • CUZIN ERN

THIS IS REASON NUMBER ONE WHY EVERY STATE SHOULD BE MANDATED: to have a Death Row in Place or forfeit any and all tax incentives(entitlements.

Prison is not to protest, prison is for Repentance for all wrong Doers,

Always remember this fact. Prisons should always be functioning towards eliminating any and all “COME BACKS” or “REPEAT OFFENDERS”…or that other hard to pronounce word that applies….

ANY Prison with a high “COME BACK RATIO” is due for an “OVERHAUL” as The Overly Lax Discipline internally provides for Misbehavior for those Who are incarcerated and is nothing more than a Ware house for
incorrigeables who haven’t reached the position in life called “MAN HOOD” and therefore require Remedial Supervision By their PEERS with Heavy Hands and Kind Words that can and will bring about Miracles even God would be Proud Of…..

If you believe I am talking out of My Hat, let me remind you that I am not Postulating, it is Experience doing the Talking….

Dateline 1950′s, U.S. Army Prison in Georgia U.S.A.

Commanding General issued orders which stated all infractions of Military CODE will be dealt with severely..

Not wanting to bore you, but Facts speak for themselves w/out much help from the author…

Those BOY’s, who became MEN in a few short months, came back from Korea with more Medals Per Capita than the Rest of those in Service as reported….

To give you a brief summary: My Provost Sergeant ended up in “The SNAKE PIT” and said to me in Ansbach, Germany,on Cold War Duty “The Only I’ll Ever Go Back In That Place would only Be Feet First”>>>>

  • USPatriot

Where is Joe Arpaio when you need him? People who are in jail should not vote period. If you break the law, you should lose your rights. Granted there are some who are in jail unjustly. We have buried common sense! This needs to be revisited. I would like to see voting rights automatically restored if the person is not rearrested within 3 years of getting out. When I read about the 4th and 5th DUI (VA) where we have some tough laws, I am wondering what is wrong with the system that lets alcoholics stay on the road. We should apply Arpaio’s system. I think he has a low recidivism rate! (Maricopa County, AZ)

Whats wrong with you people?? Has the Clemmons tragedy completely gone over your heads? How may more police officers and innocent bystanders have to die before you realize that the whole TOUGH ON CRIME PHILOSOPHY DOES NOT WORK. More people are incarcerated in the U.S. per capita then anywhere else in the world. It has become a business where private institutions are making money from the government by renting out beds for surplus inmates. The more rights we deprive inmates of..the more horribly theyre treated the more PISSED they will be when theyre released and make no mistake that a very large majority if them WILL be released. How evolved is this society when its citizens say things like “we should adopt the justice of Islam” What a fool! If he was a country who followed the lunatic laws of Islam he wouldnt have a voice to speak with because his tounge would be gone. Inmates are people..people who were born in this country, many of them are incarcerated for non violent crimes. Who among us can say we have always followed the rules?? Some get caught…thats all. They should be allowed to vote as U.S. citizens and it should not be a question of race. They should be treated as human beings because WE are not here to judge them. Their judgement is coming from above as its coming for all of us. The tough on crime laws have done NOTHING to make us safer, in fact they are producing angrier, more driven criminals that one day will be living right next to YOU!

  • http://aol.com tessie

Criminals have no rights. It wouldn’t matter how you treated them. Most jailbirds like that life, proof: When released, many return within a year. Go figure. I for one do not want them helping to make policy for law abiding people. What is wrong here?????

  • Larry McKinley

tessie: What will these People do when they are released?
No Jobs, No Money, Yes they return to crime.
Calif. will be releasing a lot of People this year. 40,000 plus
Other States will be forced to do the same.
The States are making big money on these convictions and the Judges are RICH.
Now you can delete this because it is truth as well.

  • Bob Miller

    Wow..

You come into the country illegally.. you can stay here indefinitely and get free medical,a free education, go to college on grants and scholarships and have a free ride.

How any one judge can determine that the crude of our society has the RIGHT to VOTE is beyond me.

You do the crime you do the time. Some of these individuals that have been in and out of prison, need to be hanged and taken off the dole.

CAPITAL punishment should be the ultimate price for these individuals.. no life in prison, no bleeding heart liberal lawyers and judges to ‘protect’ these poor misunderstood criminals.. just az quick death..

Definitely would cut down crime in the United States and the World.

  • Jon Weiss

Hmm, Under Obama’s reign of stupidity, people who violate the law and are convicted still get to vote, and people who’s initial act of entering the country, violates Federal Law (illegal immigrants) are not prosecuted, and they still claim that is is “A nation of Laws not men”? Give me a break.

This nation is a ship of fools Captained by a fraud.

  • Jon Weiss

    From the Article:
“Judge A. Wallace Tashima stated that the lawsuit “demonstrated that police practices, searches, arrests, detention practices and plea-bargaining practices lead to a greater burden on minorities that cannot be explained in race-neutral ways,” quoted by USA Today.”

I guess the next thing should be arrests of whites for just being white and the total elimination of plea bargains for all, just to make it equal.
