Was Superstorm Sandy A Democrat?
A boat rests on the tracks of Metro-North's Hudson Line in New York in the aftermath of Sandy.

Superstorm Sandy, as it is being used by pundits on the left, just may be conservative Americans’ biggest political foe at the moment.

Following President Barack Obama’s Tuesday victory, left-wing pundit Chris Matthews had an interesting view of what was one of the biggest aides to the President’s success.

“I’m so glad we had that storm last week because I think the storm was one of those things — no, politically I should say. Not in terms of hurting people. The storm brought in possibilities for good politics,” Matthews said after a loving Obama tribute monologue.

The President and his green-energy acolytes are likely happy about the storm as he moves into his second term because of the refocusing of attention on climate change that follows unusual weather patterns.

According to Bloomberg News, climate change discussions in the aftermath of Sandy could give the President the forum he needs to talk up a proposed carbon tax that he claims will reduce the deficit and help the environment.

According to the article:

A tax starting at $20 a metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent and rising at about 6 percent a year could raise $154 billion by 2021, Nick Robins, an analyst at the bank in London, said today in an e-mailed research note, citing Congressional Research Service estimates. “Applied to the Congressional Budget Office’s 2012 baseline, this would halve the fiscal deficit by 2022,” Robins said.

While I personally, don’t take much stock in what Chris Matthews says, I think he was expressing that the hurricane demonstrated – again – that President Obama is a strong, involved leader who works for the American people as a whole, regardless of party affilliation.

    • Patriot1776

Absolutely Doc, obama showed his strength and leadership by continuing to campaign and party with stars as Americans were forced out of their homes, relief efforts were stifled just as during Katrina, through out the rest of the nation employment remains somewhere over 8%, no jobs, no oil, no plan. Excellent leadership.

      • Preston Weiters Jr.

11/11/12, Doc, Pat, So much for these freedom & justice-loving blacks & Latins. What was just proven, Nov. 6 is most are used to getting kicked in the teeth. BO&Co’s policies are simply unsustainable. You will see this with the subsequent unraveling of “ObamaCare.

If you’re seeking employment, your quest just got harder; if you’re working, you’re living on the edge. Even without “taxmageddon,” your [job] bottom could drop out.

    • eddie47d

Obama showed that even in time of tragedy life goes on. He was there and gave the help upfront and got the ball rolling. That is what leaders do and he didn’t abandon the problem but let those locally dig in and dig out. That 7.8% unemployment would be the same whether Hurricane Sandy occurred or not and there is good amount of oil. Now if you really want things to move along then take off the chains of those Republicans in Congress. Tell them to roll up their sleeves and get busy for there is a nation that needs their input on critical issues.

      • Roger R. Fernandez

Are you kidding? After the president had his picture embracing the up-to-then popular governor of New Jersey and receiving his praises, where did Obama go and whom did he leave behind? He went to Las Vegas, leaving behind suffering people weeping and crying, desperately begging for help. What a coincidence… that is precisely to Las Vegas where he went after he left defenseless our Consulate at Benghazi, Libya, where our ambassador and three other American heroes were murdered, and after his Administration had refused to send them the help they requested to repel the terrorist attack. Thus, the president has been derelict in his constitutional duty as Commander-in-chief and has been participating in a shameless and disgraceful cover-up. Remember Watergate when what really came to count was the cover-up? In Benghazi, there are four Americans dead and a cover-up. When will Obama assume responsibility for the mess he has created: no budget for three years, almost six trillion dollars in debt, fourteen more million people in food stamps than when he sworn in as President, a higher unemployment rate than when he took office, and on and on, and on…

      • Kinetic1

        Roger R. Fernandez,
First, let me tell you from first hand experience that there is little to be gained by having politicians hanging around after a disaster. I have never understood why people are so hung up on having a Governor or President show up to look at how bad things are. All it brings is the confusion and inconvenience of security agents and the press. There are people whose job it is to evaluate the situation and inform the President of what is needed so that he can give the orders. President Obama gave the order for preparations up front and showed up for moral support afterwards. What more do you expect? FEMA is on hand and it’s up to the power companies can get their lines up and running.

Second, haven’t you been paying any attention to the Benghazi story? The CIA admitted that this was their baby. More than 2/3 of the personnel were CIA agents. The President didn’t leave them hanging. The CIA had back-up on the way in less than 30 minutes. They were aware of the situation and calling the shots on the ground. Of course FOX and Beck have their own “sources” to feed those on the far right the kind of (mis)information they want to hear, so I don’t expect you will ever believe anything other than what you have already stated.

      • eddie47d

They always demand that the government stay out of things . Then they get mad when they step in and insist that they stay!

      • butterflier

you forgot the one about Libiya when Obo had screams for help and real time drone video he retired early.

      • eddie47d

Go back to your sock puppet predictions Big Sleazy that Romney was going to win by a landslide. Remember that on Oct 13th? You are still an angry bird without feathers!

    • Janice Dempsey

Obama hates America and Americas -everything he does is about destroying us and pushing his socialist agenda.

      • Doc Sarvis

He has done wonders for this country; stopping the free falling economy he inherited and slowly but steadily bringing us back. Plenty of work for him to continue to do of course, but to have elected Romney would have stuck it again to the middle class only to benefit the top 1%.

      • Patriot1776

What is going to “stick it to the middle class is the obamagedon, the tax increases from obamacare, the stale job market and the over-regulation of affordable engery. Taxing the 1% will only reduce jobs and kill the economy. But, hey, at least we have the food stamp president to fall back on, right?

    • got my licence

Oboma has done very little if anything and now that he got the photo opp. and the vote he will do even less. There was no prep before Sandy and the new storm has made it several times worse. Fema offices were closed while the snow was falling, Individuals affected by these storms are told to go online the submitt their claim yet even if they have a computer that works there is no internet. Blumberg has fired his man in charge of the clean up as he saw fit to pull crews off the clean up to work on his own property. People are being told that they can not enter their homes to retrieve supplies under penilty of eviction. So what is the purpose of having the supplies? But all is well as Oboma is in charge.

    • Benjamin Fox

      How does that cool-ade taste?

  • Steve E

So climate change started the storm. There is a red spot on Jupiter which is a storm that has been around for about 300 years. There must be people on Jupiter who are driving SUVs.

  • http://Yahoo Sunfire

Yes, Doc….you are so right! Evereyone is so glad he was re-elected and we are looking forward to more handouts at the expense of working Americans, more secret “sweet nothings” to the Russians on open mics, more slamming of our Constitution and the expiration of the 1st and 2nd Amendments and any other Amendments he so sees fit and yes, definitely the bringing down of our military to leave the door open for a takeover by a foreign country! We are anxiously awaiting to see what he is going to do to Israel, our only Middle East ally..hopefully he splits Jerusalum down the middle, we are so anxious to see God split America right down the middle too! Yes, it will be an exciting four years…probably more exciting than the last four! It was so nice of you to write and give us your feelings!

If obumass were a “leader” he would be rallying the troops! He’d say, “come on everybody, let’s get to work and clean up this mess”! Every time I see any stories about Sandy on tv, everybody’s just standing around complaining or laying around in shelters. Back in the mid 90′s we had a terrible storm at the end of October. We had over 13″ of thunder snow, very wet, heavy snow. The trees still had their leaves so the weight of the snow broke huge limbs off of every large tree in the city. The city looked like a war zone! Those who had not had their trees trimmed ended up with the trees on their houses. The power was out for two to three weeks. Our power was out for 10 days. It was cold! Daytime temps were in the low 40′s and nights dropped below freezing. We wore our coats in the house! It’s what you do! We opened the cupboards and burned candles to keep the pipes from freezing! The day after the storm, every able bodied person was outside cleaning up! Very few people had chain saws. Those with chain saws would cut and move on, leaving you to haul it out to the curb. People used whatever they had and moved from neighbor to neighbor to help. No one waited for the city to do it! We stacked it all at the curb. The piles were so high you felt like you were driving down tunnels. It took the city months to collect it all but then they ground it up and everybody got all the free mulch they wanted. My point is that we cleaned it up ourselves! We didn’t wait for somebody to come and do it for us! There was no fema to hand out food and water. Those whose houses were destroyed ended up in shelters but didnt sit there whining. During the day everyone was cleaning up! We cooked on our grills and after dark we sat around the kitchen table playing cards and board games by candle light. We had battery operated flashlights and radios and everybody just did what they had to do. A good “leader” would prompt the people to get off their butts, quit complaining and get to work! A week after Sandy hit, there were still places that looked as if nothing had been touched. If the people had cleared the streets the power company trucks could get a lot more done! People should not wait for the government to take care of them! They should take care of themselves! A GOOD leader would offer encouragement and get the troops moving!!! A GOOD leader would have all hands on deck and would LEAD!!!

    • roger

have you seen what happens when someone steps on downed (hot) power line? it ain’t a pretty sight i can tell you………let the power company personnel clean up around their lines, they are trained to do so.

    • Benjamin Fox

Sandy had to be a demo-rat, destroys everything touched.

      • eddie47d

Wasn’t that brilliant! That definitely makes Katrina a “Republirat ” then and 2005 is when the US economy started its economic decline. Thanks Republicans!

  • roger

can someone please show me, where in the constitution does the gov’t have the power to tax carbon? there should be a politician hanging from every cherry tree and lamp-post in D.C., and i mean from both sides of the aisle. dirtbags, each and every one of ‘em. with the exception of Ron Paul, of course…….

    • Patriot1776

obama quit following the Constitution, it gets in his way. Do you realize that in the Constitution it actually says that common citizens have the right to keep and bear arms? It also says that mere commoners have freedom to worship God as they choose. Even worse, it says that the rights of all of the citizens are given by God. What use is such a document when we have the deity obama to provide all of our wants and needs.

    • GALT

excise, duties and imposts…..or “income from whatever source derived” if you look
you should be able to find it easily…….of course in this case the proper label would
be a penalty or fine for damages…….and you are being undercharged…….

      • roger

Galt, did you sell some carbon? Did you import some carbon? Do you owe a duty on the carbon you brought in to the states from another country? You’re probably too stupid to have a job, but if you did, would your employer pay you with carbon??? therefore your income would be carbon?? what a dumbass reply you made…………schill

      • GALT

nice to know the carbon is free……….wow, no more utility bills….

  • Dave67

Well there you have it folks.. God is a liberal and a democrat. Why do you people hate god?

Some of these ignorant comments here…

Obama has been engaged in NJ, NY… There are 50 Million PEOPLE and HUGE infrastructure in this area. This is not the Gulf Coast.

Obama cut the red tape to get the system working as good as it can. He has led…

George W Bush failed during Katrina because like you conservative nuts here… you don’t like Gov. When you don’t like Gov, its amazing… your ability to properly lead and manage is low.

The Sandy cleanup is going to take time. Gov Christie and Gov Cuomo understand this… Conservative idiots just have hate in their hearts for Obama. How much did you jokers donate to the Red Cross? You volunteering?

  • Gary L

Storm or no storm, no body should be surprised when a blue state votes blue.

  • Roger R. Fernandez

Kinetic1: I appreciate your poised and respectful reply to my contribution to the discussion. This is the way debates of ideas should be conducted. You present a very valid point about the presence of important politicians in scenes of natural disasters, and I agree with you. Having said that, the same treatment was not given to Bush with Katrina, on the contrary, he was crucified and continues to be, in spite of the fact that he had asked the people two days earlier to prepare to evacuate and the Mayor of the city, a Democrat, told him, in no uncertain terms, to stay out of his city’s business. In Obama’s case, the picture portraying him as a friendly bipartisan politician came out as just a “photo op” of huge value, particularly so because, in his campaign, Romney had been emphasizing the need for bipartisanship which he can provide and Obama has seldom practiced, if at all, during his presidency.
On the second point, I unfortunately cannot agree with you. I know about the CIA, as well as Hillary Clinton accepting full responsibility for whatever happened. But the ambassador represents the president and the country. The commander-in-chief is ultimately responsible of whatever happens to the ambassadors and the troops anywhere they are. It is the cover-up that is very bothersome, particularly before an election. What are they hiding? The American people are very forgiving of mistakes made in a world that is never perfect, but only as long as they are not lied to. That is why it is very important to get at the truth.

  • michael a.

just more proof that there is no waking up from this national nightmare. I feel as though I’m
living in some alternate universe where black is white and white is black, and nothing makes sense. From now “forward” we live in PostAmerica.
