Visitors Make Up 16 Percent Of Detroit Homicides

DETROIT (UPI) — Data from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office shows that 16 percent of homicides in Detroit in 2012 were out-of-towners.

Statistics released last week indicate of the 413 homicide victims in Detroit in 2012, 66 lived outside of the city, The Detroit News reported.

“A lot of suburbanites come into Detroit to get narcotics and pick up prostitutes, and they end up in trouble,” retired Detroit Police Officer David Malhalab said.

“They’d get robbed, and when I’d ask them what they were doing in the neighborhood, they’d tell me they were looking for someone — but they couldn’t tell me a name or address. You knew what they were doing.”

Detroit had one of the nation’s highest murder rates in 2012, with 53 per 100,000 residents.

Sooooo what….that means 84% of the victims lived in the city. Do we know the stats for other major metro areas? Also did you ever stop to think that crime rates are high in areas like Detroit because people still report the crimes? Not excusing the city or its inhabitants but I think it’s time to stop bashing a city that has come from being the top per capita murder city to “one of the nations highest” . That’s a pretty ambiguous statement. Top 50? 20? 40? 10? 5? How many cities are in ranks of “highest per capita murder rate”? Here’s a stat I haven’t seen here. Detroit ranks number 9 in the nation in TOP cities that are recovering from the recession adding jobs and reviving the economy. (Thank you Gov. Snider for throwing out the Granholm policies that have just moved to Washington). How about the headline that Detroit is attracting more businesses that aren’t automotive related and is growing in the tech sector. There is some good news out of Detroit. It would be a refreshing change to see some of that touted here.

Let’s celebrate the Detroit sucksess & have the DNC move there permanently – build a big convention center & bring in as many demo-progressive visitors in for everything imaginable – no guns allowed, big wallets get big hug., Dedicate their wasteland as a national park with the theme, “WE DID THIS WITHOUT THE A-BOMB – “4-word & ON”

Hey, someplace else full of vicious black criminals needs to challenge Chicago.

    • steve in AZ

Hey – I thought the Chicago crooks moved to D.C.?

  • Bill

That is a good place for the progressive posters to go on vacation. They can see their progressive policies in action

Bill, perhaps you will go with me? We can visit the ghettos where the used to be auto workers are now forced to live while they scratch out enough money to pay the rent, or we can visit the well to do areas where the drug dealers own everything in sight and want you to pay for the privilege of visiting their neighborhood, either by buying product or hiring help for the evening. Oh, and those are the neighborhoods where you need an armored car and a couple of honest to gosh M-16′s just to survive a half hour ride. Then you can cruise the parts of town where no one lives, and they have even turned off the street lights to save money. Lots of empty houses, and more than a few empty lots.

If they made drugs and prostitution illegal in Detroit. The 16% would not come into the town.

Are the visitors from New York City? Rival gangs muscle in from New York, happens all the time.

Both places have the strictist gun laws on the book, both are cesspools of curruption, crime and murder.
