Valentine’s Day Can Be ‘Tipping Point’

DUBLIN, Ireland, Feb. 13 (UPI) — A relationship counselor in Ireland warns many relationships break up after the stress of Valentine’s Day.

Brendan Madden, chief executive of Relationships Ireland, says many people can feel forced to conform to what are often unrealistic expectations of what love, romance and relationships are all about, the Irish Independent reported.

“We know only too well the pressures that Valentine’s Day can bring. One of the busiest times of the year for us are the weeks afterwards,” Madden told the Independent. “The pressure of the day and the disappointment of unmet expectations often represents the ‘tipping point’ for many people, where they reach a level of dissatisfaction that makes them decide to do something about their relationship. Sadly, for many people that means ending their relationship.”

Madden urges couples not to make unreasonable demands because of the holiday.
