Uruguay Government Plans To Sell Marijuana

Uruguay Government Plans To Sell Marijuana
PHOTOS.COM
The Uruguay government wants to be responsible for growing and selling marijuana.

In an attempt to lower crime and raise government revenue, Uruguay is planning on legalizing marijuana. Currently, it is legal to possess less than 25 grams of cannabis, but it is illegal to grow or sell it.

If the proposal passes, Uruguay’s government would oversee the growth and distribution of the $75 million business. Buyers would be required to register with the government.

“It’s a fight on both fronts: against consumption and drug trafficking,” said defense minister Eleuterio Fernandez Huidobro. “We think the prohibition of certain drugs is creating more problems for society than the drugs themselves.”

Congress must approve the proposal, but Julio Calzada, secretary-general of the National Drugs Board in Uruguay, thinks there is a good chance it will pass. “We have hopes that legislators from all four parties can support the measure,” he said.

But some marijuana users have a different opinion. “People who consume are not going to buy it from the state,” said marijuana smoker Natalia Pereira. “They’re going to be mistrust buying it from a place where you have to register and they can typecast you.”

Will the government send delegations to find export markets for the legal crops. ? lol
but maybe its just the formalisation of what most in government have been doing for some time, but all in all seems a good place to trial the legalisation to see how many extra psychiatric Hospitals will have to be built to cater for the possible increase in business.

It’ll never fly here, because of the prison industry and the cops tendancy to hunt for drug money. Hundreds or maybe thousands of ‘customers’ in prison are there for mere possession. Making pot as leagal as tobacco (proven much worse for user diseases) would free all those customers from prison. Although it would increase tax revenue. Hey, more taxes! Why don’t the democrats push that tax through?

    • Pete Sagi

That’s easy. First and foremost … big chemical companies don’t want hemp fiber competing with wood pulp for paper production because it requires far less in the way of chemicals to process hemp fiber into paper. I believe that the chemical in question is sulfuric acid. The main reason behind the marijuana boogie man was banning industrial hemp for the purposes of monopoly, crony capitalism vs free enterprise. Secondly … cannabis has many medical applications, and, by juicing the leaves vs. extracting via organic solvent from the buds, it is possible to make an effective anti inflamatory that DOES NOT have any psychoactive effect. Big pharma doesn’t want competition. Monopoly, crony capitalism vs. free enterprise again. Third … govt. brings in cocaine and heroin, govt. has, in essence, given the meth concession over to the Mexican mob, and the booze companies don’t want weed as competition. Weed would cut into meth, coke, booze, and heroin profits because it is a cheap alternative. Once again, monopoly, crony capitalism vs. free enterprise. Finally … do you really want govt. approved, licensed, and taxed weed? I would like to see it totally liberated, as in a total repeal of all cannabis laws.

How to accomplish that? A massive guerilla growing campaign to the point where enforcement becomes totally moot and the anti weed laws become an embarassment. Govt. can then save face by making believe they were leading the parade to repeal the ban all along.

        Dear Pete,

In part you have it, but the part most in the USA just don’t quite grasp is this, {per year the American TAX Payer / empolyed Slaves pay} the following by way of the “War on drugs” Oddly that these very people created – noted below.

Whats even more so sad is that the American people allow this behavior due to thier complete and utter Ignorance on the topic, again oddly all created by non other than the YELLOW JOURNALISM of W.R. Hurst.

        $19.9 Billon PLUS – per years is paid to the following;
The Rothschilds, via – the Bank of London
The Rockefellers via – their granddaddys works that would have been Nelson Aldrich, look in to the Dutch Roots of this Vampire family.
        The Harriman’s
        The Hurst Trust
        Kuhn Lueb Bank
        Chace Manhatten Bank
        — last But not least; “Eli Lilly” who oddly some how holds the patten on THC and Hemp seeds! wow and I though God did.

As for the real rasciet W.R. Hurst who started the war on Pot, he clamed that Mexicans were made lazy by smoking it. And that Blacks all they could do was RAPE white chicks.
Deaths from smoking POT – ZERO, rapes, ZERO, Lazy, hell thats 99% of the population and most don’t even smoke pot!

Sorry but Hemp fiber is perfectly legal in the US. As long as the product made of hemp does not cause THC to enter the human body. E.G. Textiles and, of course, paper.

“If, however, the product does not cause THC to enter the human body, it is a noncontrolled substance that may lawfully be sold in the United States. Included in the category of lawful hemp products are textiles, such as clothing made using fiber produced from cannabis plant stalks. Also in the lawful category are personal care products that contain oil from sterilized cannabis seeds, such as soaps, lotions, and shampoos.”

The Marijuana Conspiracy: The Reason Hemp Is Illegal
        by Doug Yurchey

They say marijuana is dangerous. Pot is not harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does not pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people. The truth is, if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about the plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

Where did the word ‘marijuana’ come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant – as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years :

        1) All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s. (Jack Frazier. Hemp Paper Reconsidered. 1974.)

        2) It was legal to pay taxes with hemp in America from 1631 until the early 1800s. (LA Times. Aug. 12, 1981.)

        3) Refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th centuries was against the law! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769 (G. M. Herdon. Hemp in Colonial Virginia).

        4) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers grew hemp. (Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France then to America.)

        5) Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America, and it processed hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off Moscow’s export to England. (Jack Herer. Emperor Wears No Clothes.)

        6) For thousands of years, 90% of all ships’ sails and rope were made from hemp. The word ‘canvas’ is Dutch for cannabis. (Webster’s New World Dictionary.)

        7) 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc., were made from hemp until the 1820s, with the introduction of the cotton gin.

        8) The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross’s flag, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp. (U.S. Government Archives.)

        9) The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky producing 40,000 tons. Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th century. (State Archives.)

        10) Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.

        11) Rembrandt’s, Van Gogh’s, Gainsborough’s, as well as most early canvas paintings, were principally painted on hemp linen.

        12) In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs. (U.S. Department of Agriculture Archives.)

        13) Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935. (Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before the U.S.Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.)

        14) Henry Ford’s first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the car itself was constructed from hemp! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, ‘grown from the soil,’ had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel. (Popular Mechanics, 1941.)

        15) In 1938, hemp was called ‘Billion-Dollar Crop.’ It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars. (Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938.)

        16) Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled ‘The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.’ It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

The following information comes directly from the United States Department of Agriculture’s 1942 14-minute film encouraging and instructing ‘patriotic American farmers’ to grow 350,000 acres of hemp each year for the war effort:

“…[When] Grecian temples were new, hemp was already old in the service of mankind. For thousands of years, even then, this plant had been grown for cordage and cloth in China and elsewhere in the East. For centuries prior to about 1850, all the ships that sailed the western seas were rigged with hempen rope and sails. For the sailor, no less than the hangman, hemp was indispensable… Now with Philippine and East Indian sources of hemp in the hands of the Japanese… American hemp must meet the needs of our Army and Navy as well as of our industries… The Navy’s rapidly dwindling reserves. When that is gone, American hemp will go on duty again; hemp for mooring ships; hemp for tow lines; hemp for tackle and gear; hemp for countless naval uses both on ship and shore. Just as in the days when Old Ironsides sailed the seas victorious with her hempen shrouds and hempen sails. Hemp for victory!”

Drug prohibition is unconstitutional. I have a natural right to eat, drink, smoke, inject anything I want. It’s my body. Nobody owns my body. Nobody. Just think about it. Tell me, who owns YOUR body? I would like to hear who has the title to your body. Drug prohibition is not title to MY BODY ;maybe yours, but not mine.

    • TIME

      Dear Roger,

Who owns your body? Well thats really quite simple; “NOT YOU.”

You were sold by FDR as CHATTEL to the Bank of London back in the 1930′s.

Do you want your body back? Then work to fix the ills of this nation as in get the Criminals out of the City State of the District of Columbia, You call them Congress persons, who are also owned Lock Stock and what ever, by the list I posted above.

We have never followed the “Original Constitution” since 1860 its all a Covert / Overt LIE that the US Inc has been selling the sheep for years now.

Just as there is NO DIFFERANCE between the R’s or D’s. Its just one single coin with the same overall value, as well with the same goals to keep you so busy that you can never figure out what they are up
      too.
And yet how many people in the 50 states think they have the right Team? Well thats WRONG – people we are all being used!

      Peace and Love

    • http://naver samurai

Sorry dude, but if it is against the law, you can’t do it. Second, you have no right to do drugs. Show ne where it says anything about behavior in our Constitution. It isn’t there! Users are losers and losers are users. So don’t do drugs, don’t do drugs. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

P.S. You need both love of country and fear of God to be a patriot.

      • http://Yahoo Maynard

Don’t use drugs. No medicines. No coffee, tea, cocoa, alcohol, nicotine, vitamins, etc. Everything is made up of chemicals. Drugs are made up of chemicals. Some chemicals are good, some are bad. Some are good for most people but bad for some. Peanuts are an example. You are being simplistic to say just don’t do drugs.
Furthermore, as TIME, Vicki and Pete wrote above, there are certain drugs that are prohibited because they compete with other drugs. Marijuana competes with alcohol, meth, cocaine and heroine which are supplied by and/or benefit the government. Since marijuana can be grown locally it cannot be as easily monopolized.
Did you know that the Taliban had almost wiped out opium poppy growing but now, under our reign of terror, the production has gone way up again? That shipments of cocaine were landed in Arkansas when Clinton was governor? That Michael Ruppert exposed the role the government played in starting the crack cocaine epidemic? Illegal drugs are a big money maker for groups like the CIA. The police can confiscate your property in some states if they find marijuana. Who makes money on keeping “drug dealers” in jail? Dick Cheney invested over $1 million of his own money in Vanguard, Inc. which seeks to privatize prisons for corporate profit.
The War on Drugs is a foothold for a war on recalcitrant citizens. Who do you think will be the first people arrested and held for prolonged periods under NDAA 2012? People who support our Constitutional rights, and anyone they can accuse of drug use.
Did you know records of George Washington’s Mount Vernon plantation show marijuana was grown and was categorized by male or female plants? The production of hemp does not need to make this distinction. Medicinal and/or recreational use does.
I no longer use prohibitted drugs and have not for many years. Nevertheless, it is not the government’s right to tell me I can’t.

why ban smoking if you relax the pot laws? most people inhale the drug and are inhaling a more dangerous drug then nicotine, thc. it’s funny, some pot smokers i know complain about people smoking and yet they are indicted to pot and smoke it.

    • Charlie Brown

Are you drunk to say that THC is more dangerous than Nicotine?

      • 45caliber

        Charlie:

THC – or something else in pot – is worse that nicotine. I’ve seen people who were hooked on it (and don’t tell me it can’t happen – I know better) have nervous breakdowns when they couldn’t get more. They would break down and cry or something similar. I’ve never seen a tobacco user do that even when they couldn’t get more.

      • Stallion

45caliber, you said they break down and cry or something similar, if they don’t get pot but they don’t do this with cig. well bubba I don’t know what part of the world you exist in but I’ve been around a lot of pot smokers and smoked a lot never had or seen anybody have a nervous break down over pot since I was 13 and I’m 39 now. You must know some weak minded people. My mother-in-law will rip your head off if she doesn’t get a cig. and she has cried because she couldn’t get a cig. but when for a brief week or so we got her to smoke pot at age 71 she said something was different because she could read the small letters rolling across the screen on the tv. Which she couldn’t do before. Just because some people act ignorant on the pot dont put all the beans in one pot to cook because some people do have common sense and can smoke pot or quit cold turkey and still function as a human.
Samuria God put pot seeds on this Earth so I wouldn’t ditch it to much for He the Father created this seed that produces marijuana for a rreason maybe cataracts, nerve issues, pain, cancer & etc. God does not make mistakes and said Oh I let one of my pot seeds fall to Earth OOOOps If you don’t smoke it don’t judge people that do.
Now people might say now since I said all this I still smoke weed well I’ll leave that up to your imagination because posting what I did you will judge me at will but I don’t look for your human approval or the Gov. I look top my Lord Jesus Christ who had compassion and did put this beautiful plant on this Earth for a reason. Has any of you actually seen a pot plant grow? If not go to youtube look it up sometimes, its a beautiful thing just like flowers.

Moe than just ‘typecast’! As each administration has their own agenda, if marijuana becomes illegal again, the G’ment will have names to target.. I too would find my supply among other alternatives because I’m also sure that G’ment pot will not compete with street price so it’s a double whammy. Eliminate the ‘Registration’.. Samurai: Our Constitution says we have freedom of religion. That includes any religion or NO religion. I happen to be a pantheist which means that I believe God is everywhere, in everything, at all times. I do not expect you to believe that. I also believe the whole universe merits the same love as the artificially determined place we call our “country.” Yet, I consider myself a Patriot to this country because I obey its reasonable laws and proselytize by preaching against it’s unreasonable acts: such as violations of the Constitution and foolish, vicious, stupid, trumped-up wars for war profiteers. I believe that makes me more of a patriot than those who wave the flag, believe the false propaganda, and wreak destruction on innocent people such as in 9/11 (skyscrapers do not explode in synchronized fashion from jet fuel fires) and the Iraq, Afghan and Pakistani atrocities our government has perpetrated, under Bush and Obama.
