U.S. Agents Rescue 16 Illegal Immigrants

EDINBURGH, Texas, Aug. 23 (UPI) — U.S. Border Patrol agents have rescued 16 illegal immigrants from soaring temperatures in southern Texas.

The first rescue was made Saturday after an illegal immigrant contacted the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office through a 911 call for assistance, the U.S. Border Patrol said in a release.

The sheriff’s office passed the information along to Border Patrol agents, who then located the man near Falfurrias.

On Sunday, another 14 illegal immigrants were rescued by Border Patrol agents, who again were notified by the sheriff’s office, which had received a 911 call from the group.

Another man was found Sunday near Los Finados Lake by agents, who received word from Kennedy County that the man was in need of assistance.

None of the people rescued were in need of medical attention, the release said.

All of them will be returned to their countries of origin.

So far this year, Border Patrol has rescued over 180 illegal immigrants whose lives were in jeopardy due to various causes.
