TSA On The Highway

TSA On The Highway

If you thought you could avoid intrusive encounters with the Transportation Security Administration by simply avoiding the airport, you’re wrong. The agency is seeking permission to expand its reach to highways and other transportation hubs throughout the Nation.

The TSA is currently seeking permission from the Office of Management and Budget to conduct “security-related assessments” of about 750 long-haul trucking operators as well as 140 public transportation agencies.

Under an initiative dubbed the Highway Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement (BASE) program, the TSA will work to find ways to “fill security gaps” related to transportation on American highways and interstates.

The agency states in a Federal notice:

TSA’s Highway BASE program seeks to establish the current state of security gaps and implemented countermeasures throughout the highway mode of transportation by posing questions to major transportation asset owners and operators. Data and results collected through the Highway BASE program will inform TSA’s policy and program initiatives and allow TSA to provide focused resources and tools to enhance the overall security posture within the surface transportation community.

The TSA has already taken measures to set up airport-style checkpoints at a number of rail stations and last year examined trucks and buses on Tennessee highways.

Soon TSA will be in our downtown streets harassing pedestrians as they walk about their business, checking briefcases and backpacks. “Papers please!”

    • Ted Crawford

For Progressives, remember they are against any documentation, they could simply tatoo the letters U. I. in their foreheads, of course the constant drooling would be a dead giveaway in any case!

    • Nadzieja Batki

So are they supplanting the local police and sheriffs and the state troopers or incorporating them into a national police?

      • 45caliber

        Nadz:

They are supplanting, of course. Too many of the police don’t agree with things like that since the police are taught what the Constitution actually says and means. The TSA has their own training and it isn’t rights of the people.

    • Michael

Obama’s Brownshirts are working right in with his plans for the US to become the next national socialist nation. Should make closet nazis proud.

    • charlie

welcome— [expletive deleted] private army(sss) at work taking over our country. Thank to the welfare bums , crooked polling place leaders and other idiots that reelected him

  • Warrior

Just another prime example of gubmint “make work” programs. Produces Absolutely Nothing! And people wonder why we’re in this mess. Look NO further than your “elected leaders”.

    • JC

The TSA claims it is not responsible to Congress, I have to wonder who they actually work for? The UN maybe?

      • dan

        Like the IRS ?

      • 45caliber

        JC:

THey work for the President and the “people” of course. The fact that the people don’t agree doesn’t matter. Just like the Communists in USSR worked for the people there too.

  • Patriot1776

Typical liberal government expansion and double dipping. There are already federal and state agencies that regulate and inspect the trucking industry. If TSA wants to “keep America safe” then they need to focus on the borders and supporting our border patrols. It’s time for the states to stand up for the Constitution and limit the Federal government to their scope.

    • 45caliber

      Patriot:

I agree. They simply want to expand. It not only allows them to hire more people it also gives the top bosses more pay and more power in Washington.

    • JUKEBOX

It is already hard enough for the trucking companies to recruit competent drivers, and the extra fees and tests drivers have to comply with. You could probably qualify for the FBI quicker than you could qualify to drive a truck.

      • jt

“You could probably qualify for the FBI quicker than you could qualify to drive a truck.”

Well, we already know that it’s easier to qualify to be POTUS than it is to obtain a class-A CDL.

That makes me wonder……What ARE the requirements to become a TSA worker?
( OTHER THAN an all-consuming desire to be granted more authority than they should have )

    • DenverGirl

Patriot1776, I couldn’t agree with you more, you hit the nail on the head.

  • czman75

I would think that since the TSA deals with the safety of different modes of transportation, they should only be allowed to check your feet and shoes for safety issues…

    • Ted Crawford

If I had my way, they would need to do a self administered Pelvic X-Ray to examine my feet and shoes, and oversized shoes at that!

      • jt

        INDEED.

        Good one, by the way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steven.louton Steven Louton

How long before they start feeling up grandmothers and little children on the highway?

    • 45caliber

It depends upon how long it takes them to move some of the pediphiles from their airport jobs.

  • moses

every american needs too raise hell about this stop it before it happens ,if not they will be in your kids bedroom raping your kids next ,rapeing your wife then you ,ss hitlers ,hitler is alive in oboma he is doing just like hitler ,he is death ,islam is the devils religion of death ,dont you foolish people get it ,if not you get what you have sown .

  • Ted Crawford

Well, finally, Obama’s own concept of the SA- Brown Shirts, Waffen-SS, and Stasi! We might remember it is just another of his 2008 Campaign promises, First his ” fundamental ly change” America, now his Civilian Security Force, “equal in size and as well equipt as the Military”

  • http://protonius.wordpress.com Protonius

    Hmmm, let’s see now:

Consider how, in the name of “security”, or “national security”, all our emails — and probably faxes & phone calls & other electronic communications (Hint: Look up “Echelon”) — and their points of origin & destination & times of transmission & reception, and of course full contents, are, reportedly, traced, tracked, collated, sifted, navigated, explored, analyzed, matched to and combined with who-knows-what other gathered & databased information from other sources, and then not only permanently stored — perhaps in wait for whenever any of the “powers-that-be” wishes to draw upon that data — and, possibly, shared — whether by intent or by inadvertence — with who-knows-which other governmental or private or national or international or foreign agencies wish to have access to that data.

Consider too what this trove of data may next reveal, to those “powers-that-be”, as the Federal Government’s Utah-based QUANTUM COMPUTING facility — to which that data will be channeled for storage and analysis — comes online.

Next, consider what now begins to appear (IMO) as a near-endless expansion of the reach and authority of the TSA (as well as of other aspects of this current Governmental regime’s apparent proclivity to expand its powers without any regard to — and increasingly outside the scope of — the limits set by the nation’s Constitution.

And then — and even considering the true threats, from outside our nation’s authority or borders, to our (remaining) freedoms — ask yourself these questions:

WHERE is our nation, and our freedoms, headed, if this process is permitted to continue?
And WHAT (peacefully and within the law!) can we do about it– if you think that the nation and our freedoms are headed in a dangerously wrong direction — to set things back onto the right track, a track that supports the Constitution and our Constitutional rights and freedoms, and, perhaps above it all, our NATURAL freedoms — the freedoms that arise NOT from a Government giving its “permission” but instead coming from a HIGHER source?

    • 45caliber

      Protonius:

Thanks the to the Clinton “Privacy Improvement Act”, there is a requirement for all “communication devices” such as computers, telephones, faxes, etc. to have a chip installed that records and downloads all messages to Washington on a daily basis. There the messages are scanned for code words (which can be changed at a moment’s notice) such as “bomb”. If any are detected, the messages are then given to a person to read or hear. If the person detects any “threat” they are then given to a federal law enforcement group (usually the FBI) to investigate. So you don’t have to look FORWARD to that happening.

      • protonius2

        “45caliber”:

I’ve tried doing an online-search re the “Digital Telephony and Communications Privacy Improvement Act of 1994″, and, so far, I’ve been unable to find any indication that it became law. Can you please provide a URL to legitimate-source webpage that specifies if this “Act” did, or did not” become law?

      • 45caliber

I’m not going to try to look it up – but it DID become law. I checked with the company IT group and they assured me that it was definately done in addition to what I remember. I know it went to the SCOTUS. Before it was passed, the SC said it couldn’t be done; later it was allowed. So don’t believe that ANY communication you do is secret – except for perhaps a handwritten letter.

      • Vicki

Wasn’t that hard to find info on the act
        http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/classes/6.805/student-papers/fall94-papers/cohen-digital-telephony.html

That is one of over 75 thousand results on the search phrase
Digital Telephony and Communications Privacy Improvement Act of 1994

  • ROGER, Irish-Canadian LIBERTARIAN

From Ayn Rand’s book “Atlas Shrugged” WRITTEN in the 1950′s-

    – “You honest men are such a problem and such a headache. But we knew you’d slip sooner or later – and this is just what we wanted … Did you really think we want those laws observed? We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against… We’re after power and we mean it… There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Rearden, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

Most people saw Ayn Rand’s books as just FICTION and , unfortunately, not as GREAT PERCEPTION

    • 45caliber

      Roger:

You – and she – are correct. A lawyer once told me that it is impossible for any person anywhere in the world from not breaking at least one law a day. The laws are there simply to give the government the power to enforce them against anyone who they believe might cause them problems.

  • Steve E

Think of all the private money that is wasted in the truck driver’s time to have to wait for inspection.

    • JUKEBOX

Between the high cost of diesel and ridiculous anarchy like this, maybe people will finally understand why their groceries, and everything else that is moved by truck, is enjoying a 25% to 30% price increase.

  • Em

This is what an Oligarchy/Dictatorship looks like. It will continue to get more brutal, until life ends.

  • http://Firefox John Golt

Only TIME will tell! Don’t Tread on ME!

  • 45caliber

And the saddest thing about this? The workers for TSA, by and large, don’t realize what they are doing as wrong. They think they are helping keep the country safe.

As a professor once told our class: “It is possible to have a crime-free society. All it takes is a good police state. But do you want the control that sort of police state requires of your daily lives?”

    • Nadzieja Batki

What is also incongruous when you encounter the TSA personnel at the airport that they are the politest and kindest people. Akin to killing you with kindness

      • Communism Sucks

They act kindly toward you so you won’t be looking for the knife as they stick it in your back…

  • JW M

And things come to pass – remember during the 2008 campaign in a speech made in Colorado Springs Obama said,
“”We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” (emphasis added)”

AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps and the USA Freedom Corps are not Civilian Security forces, but TSA is

  • Public Citizen

So the blue shirts are acting more and more like the Nazi Brownshirts and the Secret Police.
Write your elected representatives and urge them to remove all funding from this grasping octopus.
FYI truck drivers ARE NOT PAID for any of the time they are forced to spend at inspection stations. TSA has no concern with the rights of the American Citizen or the cost to any person or organization that their intrusive meddling causes.
Urge your state legislators to prohibit this practice on any highway or road under state control and make the penalty for attempting this sort of “roadblock’ include mandatory jail time. 30 days in the hole for a first offence ought to be about right.

  • http://www.musingsbymarian.com MusingsbyMarian

There is TSA and there is FEMA and there are the unions (Remember how Jimmy Hoffa Jr stood by Obama and declared the union is his army?
Be sure to read article by Whiteout Press which outlines how /homeland security has graduated its first homeland-youth corp.(there were reports cell phones were confiscated at storm shelters so refugees could not call out) Storm victims have provided the perfect opportunity for this “corp” to practice being Obama’s army as set up and funded under Obama Care, as follows.

13 SEC. 5210. ESTABLISHING A READY RESERVE CORPS.

14 Section 203 of the Public Health Service Act (42

15 U.S.C. 204) is amended to read as follows:

16 ‘‘SEC. 203. COMMISSIONED CORPS AND READY RESERVE

    17 CORPS.

The really horrible part of this act is that all the commissioned officers will be appointed by the president. Only non-commissioned officers are to be passed on by congress. We have the national guard, so why do we need a large, national, well-equipped army for domestic purposes? Congress needs to move immediately to find out what is going on here.

    • The Sarge

Last year Jimmy Junior gleefully told Obama that they would be his private army. He is one of those “Useful Idiots” Lenin referred to a century ago. Jimmy Hoffa Jr. has been living under his father’s shadow all his life. He is desperately trying to make a bigger splash than his old man. He doesn’t even qualify as a two-bit thug and is nowhere near the man his father was and that still isn’t saying much about the old man because I had more respect for cockroaches.

  • Don

As a truck driver (imo) it is a push to get rid of law abiding owner ops that have dared to get out there on the road to earn a decent living and this and the 2010 CSA laws are there to kill smaller trucking firms.

  • Big Rick

One thing I failed to read in the comments above is the FACT that TSA employees are NOT peace officers (check it out). They do NOT thave any right to detain you, and if you decide to become a problem for them at the airport, what happens?…they call the POLICE to take you into custody…since they can’t. People need to understand the the TSA does not have policing authority…of course most citizens see a uniform and assume the official has the authority, but that is an illusion. I think the reason more people do not challenge the TSA is they do not want ot miss their flight…which the TSA has done to flyers on numerous occasions. I will not let them put me in the xray box…ever…I make them do a regular search…which pi**es them off, so they drag that out, but I always go through security with over an hour, usually two, until my flight. I am pleasant in the face of their bullying, so they can’t claim that I am creating problems for them, all they can do is process me and send me on my way. More people should do the same…it would really screw up their livestock processing operation…all you need is patience and a sunny disposition…they WILL try to provoke you, and if you react the wrong way…they win by having you detained.

  • http://Aol.com CommonSense4America

I don’t think this is going to end well. At least not at first.

  • Howlingmad

I “ONLY” put up with SO MUCH “FOOLISHNESS” . . . THEY, by definition, “ARE FOOLISHNESS”. They better think twice, before trying to come into MONTANA, as they “WON’T” like what they FIND, especially what might HAPPEN to them. ( An it could be a “VERY” expensive education )

  • Big Rick

Howling, How about this for foolishness…the DHS pruchased 1.4 BILLION rounds of ammo in 2012…that is enough ammo to stock our troops in Afganistan for 20 years of combat operations. Just what does the DHS do that requires that much ammo, and why an amount that would kill every man, woman, and child in the US 4 times over? Consider that 450 Million of these are .40 cal hollow point rounds (anti-personnel ammo – they do tremendous damage to victim), 200 Million are .223 rifle rounds, and 176,000 are .308 168 grain HPBT (sniper rifle) rounds. It appears that the DHS is preparing war for with the citizens of America. Sadly our Congress and Senate have decided to ignore this purchase, so it follows they must be in on the plan. All that is needed now is for the Government to give the TSA and DHS officers legal status as peace officers and look out! Think of the clowns at the airport with an H&K .40 automatic, and the authority to use it and you have the ultimate terror organization.

Please log this E mail into your data file. I dont give a [expletive deleted]. I saw the movie about 1984. Never thought it would happen in the U.S. I was wrong. I wonder if we were ever REALLY free? Or was it just an illusion? Patrick Swazie in a movie had a line which said- We aint seen bad yet but its coming. I think the 2nd ammendnent was written for just a senerio. When the government tries to rule without we the peoples consent, that is why we need a well armed militia. Can you imagine what life would be like if we were not armed? If any one (liberal-progressive) disagrees with me let me have it! What will you do when they come to take your guns?
