TSA Employees Plunder iPads

April 17, 2012 by

TSA Employees Plunder iPads
Put the iPad in your carry-on.

A 36-year-old Transportation Security Administration baggage inspector, Clayton Keith Dovel, has been snatching iPads from luggage.

Police got on Dovel’s trail after a traveler electronically traced his missing iPad to Dovel’s home.

Eight iPads have been recovered. Dovel has been charged with theft by a public servant of items valued at up to $20,000.

TSA responded to the incident:  “The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects the dedication of our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe.”

But Dovel is not the first TSA employee to have sticky fingers around Apple products.

Michael Pujol, a screener at Miami International Airport, was cuffed back in January for stealing the electronic gizmo. Pujol and his wife, Betsy Pujol Salazar, were selling the hot items on Craigslist.

Nelson Santiago was charged with grand theft last year for the same operation. Santiago, who worked in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., would steal electronic items and then sell them on Craigslist — often finding a buyer before the end of his shift.

Santiago’s extra income added up to about $50,000.

“They should have more accountability to see what’s really going on behind the scenes,” said Stephen Cu, one of the victims of Pujol’s theft. “You can’t just go through people’s luggage and take things.”

Any valuable electronics camera equipment , etc. whenever possible should be carry on.Chips in high dollar products are a wise idea and a great deterrent for theft. We have one in our dog.

I hope they miss the comfort of their homes and enjoy their new jail cell without the I-Pad. They should be treated no differently than any company thieve and maybe an extra year or two for being a person in a position of trust.

Also need to end the dept. of energy. Started by Carter to “help make America less dependent on foreign oil”. How’s that worked out so far?

    • 45caliber

      AK Tom:

About twenty years ago now, a man invented a new carborator that would double the milage of a car by doubling the amount of gasoline used as fuel. (Only 15% of gasoline is actually used. The rest burns in the exhaust system.) The Dept. of Energy refused to allow him to build and sell them. The reason? “If you double the milage, you cut sales of gasoline in half. That would cut the fuel taxes collected in half, and we can’t allow you to do that.”

  • Christin

Unconstitutional TSA kills our freedoms and assaults our rights and bodies… get rid of them.

I heard the Congressman who introduced the bill to have TSA for airport and flight security say the TSA monster has gotten out of control and run amuck… interesting, I say FIX IT THEN stupid.

Actually, the TSA bill says states or rather airports can opt out of TSA for Private groups to come in to do a similar job and a few airports have and some more want to… John Stossel broke this on his “No, They Can’t” program and book, BUT the Big Gov is now saying “NO” to those airports who want to opt out of the rude, sexual assault, thieving, union thug TSA for a more pleasant, efficient, capable Private group that is better at finding items of question.

Senator Patrick should have followed the advice of Lyndon Johnson, not, by far, one of my favorite Presidents! ” You [should] not examine legislation in the light of the benifits it will convey if properly administered, but in the light of the wrongs it would do and the harms it would cause if improperly administered ”
Hindsight may be 20/20 but we need to focus more on foresight!

      • Christin

Good sound thinking Ted, but the ‘bad guys’ don’t want us to see the wrong in their laws and actions so they hide it and don’t tell.

    • 45caliber

But if the airports opt out, then how are they going to justify the TSA employment? Put them on a road somewhere, checking cars? Wait, they already do that …

      • Christin

The TSA Union can go (to h-ll or) back to McDonald’s, jail, or collecting their government entitlement checks… I don’t care,,,, I want our Freedoms back!

TSA is stealing, and sexually assaulting, and peeping at naked pictures, and harassing innocent traveling Americans (who just want to travel by plane to visit family, go to work, attend a meeting, reunion, funeral, or go on vacation).

        Kill the bill, save America.

As bad as Carter was as our president, Obama is ten times worse!!!!!!

    • 45caliber

I have to agree. Oblama makes Carter look like a good responsible President, doesn’t he?

  • chuck

The TSA is not “protecting” ANYBODY. They are nothing more than another GOON squad out for thrills and free stuff; not to mention their salaries. More police for the Obama police state. More idiot fools to steal our property and FREEDOMS!
Ron Paul or we all sink into the quick-sand of government sewage. Wake up America.
Check your pockets, I’ll bet they’re nearly empty. The government has already stolen our home values bailing and “bonusing” the “too-big-to-fails”. And don’t forget the Bernanke/Geithner wholesale counterfeiting that is killing every saver and retiree in the country. This country is very sick indeed.

Well, FreedomFighter, why don’t you put in your application there and see just what hoops you have to jump through to get on? I would bet that I couldn’t be hired due to some problems in my background, but is no reason you couldn’t be. Right?

    • FreedomFighter

I dont want to be a : Chester-the-Molester working for the TSA

TSA – They are disgusting, useless, ineffective and should be abolished.

  • jimster

Looks like the tsa needs to do a pat down of all employees leaving the airport.

    • Christin

      Good point, jimster.

The TSA union thugs should get ‘a taste of their own medicine’ to check to see if there are stolen goods on their person and property before exiting the airport premises.

Why are ALL gov employees ABOVE the Law???
      That’s NOT American.

      • http://none Richard Pawley

One of the laws of the Universe is that what you do to others will be done to you. Many don’t believe it but that changes nothing. We don’t always see justice here but it is as assured as gravity. It’s why Jesus said to not even hate your enemies.

Unfortunately the nature of government is uncontrolled growth. It’s why the founding fathers gave us the Constitution and the Bill of Rights but we have been tinkering with it by electing our senators instead of appointing them as was done for the first 100 plus years, and then Congress and the Democrats allowed the FED to exist and they also adopted Karl Marx’s idea of a progressive income tax and now they want to care for us with crappy health care like England or Canada and so it continues. Soon they could be telling us what we must eat and drink since their will be controlling our health care. No wonder hundreds of thousands are leaving our country each year and the government isn’t making them stay (unless they owe more than $50,000 in back taxes) but they are actively working on ways of keeping Americans from sending their money overseas.

Someone once said that all of America’s problems stem from the fact that we have never lost a war to an invader, but I believe the real reason is that we have forsaken the beliefs of the founding fathers and the God they worshipped (each in his own way). Today many want to be their own god and they do not realize that nature abhors a vacuum. When we kick God out something “else” will come in, and if God doesn’t shake up the world pretty soon (as it says in the Bible He will one day do) there won’t be much left worth saving. Sad to say that but evil keeps growing and most don’t even see it. The Bible also says that, “Good shall be called evil, and evil shall be called good”.

In New Jersey there were TSA SUPERVISORS who were stealing stuff.

I know some who will not submit to their Gestapo tactics and limit themselves to going where they can drive. Others rich enough, hire their own pilots or lease an aircraft and pilot. The Democrats want gasoline to be the same as in Europe (at least $8 a gallon) so we won’t be able to go but a few miles on vacation. Last week I talked with an ex-union member (for three decades) who is now anti-union and he was saying he keeps hoping that the military will take over Washington. Unfortunately while we have many excellent men and women in the military one can’t count on that being better. Only a return to God and Godly principles will save us, if that is possible, at this late date. In the meantime it is likely to get worse before it gets better, and I believe it was Mark Twain who said that “No man’s purse is safe when Congress is in session.” Big time tax is coming to ALL and the name of that tax, that so few realize is a tax, is INFLATION. Get ready for it because it will be more than 200%.

      • Christin

        Good points.

God has shaken up the world just plenty I think… earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, droughts, mudslides, tornadoes, tidal waves, disease, starvation, slavery, progressive leaders taking our God-given Rights away…
but I believe he has put the burden of His ‘Faithful Followers’ [Believers in Christ] to fulfill the Great Commission to spread the Good News of The Gospel that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Then people would be on God’s side and not the dEVIL’s …and we would be in a much better place than we are now since so many have turned their back on the Lord and some how we put Godless people in as our Leaders.

The Bible promises that God will give Blessings if we ‘obey’ him and have NO OTHER gods [Deuteronomy 28: 1-14], but ‘Curses’ to the people [Deuteronomy 28: 15-68] if we do not. You will see that the blessings are great , but the Curses out number them and they are horrible if you read them. I know we are not under the old law, but under Grace from Jesus… but the curses are much of what we are going through now…read it.

The TSA agents involved if found guilty will be going from an IPhone to a cell phone.

    • 45caliber

Not even a cell phone – just a cell.

  • Mort

An old saying. If you are going to do a crime, make it worthwhile. Better to rob a bank than a grocery store, the penalty is the same if caught. But the ‘rewards’ are far greater, if not caught.

Go a step further, if you are a liar, lie bigtime. You may even get to be President of the USA.

  • 45caliber

It would probably help if they ran background checks on their security people when they hire them.

Nothing new Folks Politicians and Govt workers have been stealing from the Taxpayers for a very long time, But hell we dont care.

  • oh oh

And the tarnished U.S. continued it’s downward spiral into the third world…

Oddly, San Francisco is the only airport allowed to be run by private security. Others have applied but failed.

When will we realize political correctness is detrimental to our security, safety and freedom? A tall blond, blue eyed Norwegian with a Scandinavian accent, or a five year old red head with an Irish accent, or a seventy-five year old grandmother with a Yiddish accent is part of the 100% of travelers being inconvenienced, humiliated and sexually
abused when checking in at airports.

A small percent of passengers of a certain ethnicity, usually young men, bearded and holding one way tickets, fits the profile of a potential terrorist. Throughout the world, where there is or has been acts of violence and terror, it is proven jihad is responsible. Jihad is an Islamic term, so looking somewhere else doesn’t make sense to put 99% of travelers through the grinder when common sense profiling will work.

If any defamation league or the ACLU doesn’t like it, tough! Exerting a little more effort by peaceful Muslims to cleanse their religion from these renegades can help put an end to any misconceptions the world has about Islam and discourage the brainwashed fanatics from disrupting the lives of decent, innocent people.

Political correctness is mental terrorism, playing into the hands of those who wish us harm and penalizes the innocent.

“TSA responded to the incident: “The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects the dedication of our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe.”

I beg to differ in TSA’s assesment – I think it does reflect upon a substantial numbers of their workers. I have been through many airports, with some confiscating items that others had permitted. I have had item go missing from my luggage and when reported – having nothing done about it. If you study how many have been caught, they are just like the tip of the iceberg – the vast majority of them lie out of sight under the radar.

I have a friend who is a supervisor in the TSA and he complains how difficult it is to fire the incompetent workers and even the thieves in the organization. I agree that not all are bad – but many – way too many – are.

    • 45caliber

I think the government outlook on this is “Even the thieves need a good job or they might steal something.”

    • Christin

      Mai Ling,

I guess it wouldn’t sound too good to the American people if the news agencies would (report the truth for once) report that so many TSA union employees have been caught, charged with criminal thievery, and fired.

But, no, no, no, we better just keep them on the gov union payroll (so Union Bosses can become rich and donate to far left candidates) and let them keep stealing from the Tax Payers yet again while they assault them.

  • Bill Fisher

This agency is less than worthless. TSA workers are mostly pedophiles, deviants or criminals. Eighty four TSA screeners have been arrested or convicted in the last sixteen months, twelve for child sex crimes, over twenty for thefts and even one for murder. TSA is far more corrupt than GSA and there needs to be a Congressional investigation of this agency. These sickos are allowed to steal from your baggage, grope your family, ogle you child’s naked image, smuggle drugs through security and you pay them for this abuse. TSA has done more damage to our liberty, way of life and morality than Al Qaeda could have ever hoped to do. This is exactly what Bin Laden hoped would happen and he won.
