SENATH, Mo., Aug. 12 (UPI) — Training wheels found in Missouri may be those of a missing 3-year-old neighbors last saw riding her bike five days ago, authorities said.
“We’ve still got a missing child and a missing bicycle and these wheels are similar to the ones that were on the bicycle,” said Senath, Mo., Police Chief Omar Karnes, KAIT-TV of Jonesboro, Ark., reports.
Edgar Rodriguez saw the training wheels, now at a state crime lab, and believes they are those of his daughter, Breeann, the FBI said in a statement.
But officials aren’t sure if the discovery is linked to Breeann’s disappearance, KAIT said.
Karnes said he does not believe she is in Senath and could not have gone far on her own, but officials are continuing their search.
“We’re searching any abandoned houses, any wood lots or ditch banks and keep moving on and on,” Karnes said.
He said rumors posted on Facebook have detracted from the investigation, taking time that could be used to pursue legitimate tips.
“Facebook is doing more damage than good,” Karnes said. “You’ve got several people who are posting on there just rumors that they’ve heard.”
