Tilting At Windmills: The Absurdity Of The Great Tax-Cut Debate

Tilting At Windmills: The Absurdity Of The Great Tax-Cut Debate

How to Protect Your Wealth against the Soaring Tax Every American Will Have to Pay

As the contentious debate over the bailout package continues, the great central issue is, who should be taxed and how much should they pay?

In his first Federal budget proposal, President Barack Obama pointed to the dire economic plight of working Americans and argued that their taxes should be lowered, while businesses and the wealthy should pay more. Republicans, pointing to the economic boost provided by the Reagan tax cut in 1981 and the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2002, adamantly maintain that the way to boost the economy out of the depression and really help working Americans is to lower taxes on business and on capital gains.

In truth, both liberals and conservatives are tilting at windmills. Neither plan lowers taxes for either the rich or the poor. The liberals’ plan to shift more of the income tax burden to the rich does not lower overall taxes for the working classes. The conservatives’ plan to cut income and capital gains taxes for businesses and investors does not lower overall taxes for either. As for the argument over the Reagan and Bush cut taxes, they didn’t. There has not been a reduction in the rising level of taxes for either rich or poor at any time in the past 50 years.

While these statements seem to fly in the face of the evidence, let us look at it through the lens of common sense.

What is the overall tax burden on the American people? Do you believe, as most do, that it is the total of tax receipts collected by the Treasury? It is not. The actual tax is total government spending.

To grasp this critical point, ask yourself, what is a tax?

It’s money collected by government to cover its expenditures.

Government has two ways get money. The first is by force. Government demands that individuals and businesses pay a percentage of their income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If they refuse, they are faced with fines, imprisonment or both.

Face it, taking property by force or threat of force is stealing. Lysander Spooner, one of the great free market advocates on the 19th century, pointed out the absurdity of thinking otherwise: “What can be more absurd in nature and contrary to all common sense,” he wrote, “than to call him Thief and kill him that comes alone or with a few to rob me; and to call him Lord Protector and obey him that robs me with regiments and troops?”

Robbery, however, does not need to be done at gunpoint. It can also be done through fraud. If you lend someone money and that person has no intention to repay the loan, you have been robbed just as surely as if the money had been taken at gunpoint.

Just ask any of Mr. Madoff’s victims if they feel they’ve been robbed.

The government takes as much as politically possible by force through taxes, but if politicians try to raise taxes too high, they get tossed out of office. They have learned that what they can’t get by taxes, they can borrow.

Robbery By Any Other Name

It should be obvious that when the United States government borrows, there is no chance at all that it will ever repay. The history of government borrowing in the U.S. over the past century confirms it. From a debt of less than $2 billion a century ago, there are now more than $8 trillion in outstanding Treasury IOUs. (That figure, of course, does not count more than $60 trillion in pension and medical care promises.)

These government IOUs cannot and will not ever be redeemed.

How do we suffer the tax loss when governments borrow? Through price inflation. As the government borrows, interest rates rise and the central bank lowers those rates by monetizing the Federal IOUs. More money in circulation causes money to lose purchasing power. It has been going on for a century.

In 1910 a $20 bill could purchase an ounce of gold. Today, it would take 47 $20 bills to buy that ounce of gold. (That means, the Feds “taxed” away 46 of them through the fraud of government borrowing!)

The tax proposals in the stimulus package purport to lower taxes for all whose incomes are below $250,000. Thus the implication is that the bailout will help the working class, and the costs will fall on the rich. This is the opposite of the truth.

Lower income workers, retirees and the poor pay only a small portion of their income to the IRS. As they tend to spend most of their income on daily living, they are inflation’s biggest victims.

The more affluent members of society, on the other hand, spend a smaller percentage of their income on daily living, and through adroit investing have the opportunity to profit from rising prices.

One final point regarding the great tax-cut debate is important: Taxation through devaluation Is the politically expedient course; but it is also more damaging.

The fraud of secretly taxing through borrowing (deficit spending) is far more socially and economically destructive than it is to cover the full cost of government by raising taxes to the level that would balance the budget.

Price inflation makes it difficult if not impossible for both consumers and businesses to plan ahead.

It impedes growth and progress in every society in which it occurs. If citizens were forced to pay for all government expenditures up front through direct taxation, voters would be shocked into the realization that the free lunch politicians promised is no free lunch at all.

If every dollar spent by government came immediately out of taxpayers’ wallets, politicians would find it impossible to fund their vast pork-barrel spending programs.

We’d all be able to plan for our future, confident that the purchasing power of our savings would be there when we’re ready to use it. Unfortunately, there is zero chance that the fraud of deficit spending will be exposed and eliminated. The stimulus package will go forward, and the deficits will soar to the stratosphere. It is as inevitable as… well… death and taxes.

And don’t buy the argument that these exploding deficits mean that you are laying the burden of debt on your children and grandchildren. No, you’ll be paying the fraud tax yourself in the months ahead as price inflation soars.

What should a sovereign individual do in the face of this incredibly destructive bailout now underway? Prepare yourself for the consequences that history shows always follow an explosion of irredeemable debt.

  • Stay away from long-term bonds that promise to repay you in the distant future.
  • Invest in hard assets, and the companies that produce them.
  • Diversify out of depreciating dollars and into those currencies and tangible, useable assets that will rise in value as the dollar falls.
  • Internationalize your assets.

P.S. The Great Taxation debate is just the beginning. When you start to peel back the layers, you’ll realize the U.S. is coming closer and closer to a tipping point, where a 212-year-old secret could devastate the fortunes of millions, while a tiny clutch of prepared investors reach a new level of wealth. It’s all in my FREE report, which you can read here

Go Ron Paul get rid of marxist bama, Irs and federal reserve

    • JC

John, a recent Rasmussen poll that pit Ron Paul against His Hopiness as the two candidates for President in 2012 was a dead heat with RP at 41% and BHO at 42%. The winds are shifting…

      • American liberal

Since I got no answer about what YOUR CANDIDATE would have done diffrent , I’ll just assume you don’t know….and all I can conclude is it’s about his skin color… Would it be fair to assume that President Bush was a terrorist because the Bush family did business with the Saudis and Bin Laden family for 30 years?… Or that Bush had the Saudis flown out of America 24 hours after 9/11 even before the FBI could question them?… Or the hand holding and kissing of the Saudi royal family by Bush?

        • Joel Johnston

          More Monkey poo…

        • Patriot1776

I just love it when psuedo-intellectuals have no argument and fall back on the racial slurs. usually because they themselves put a huge focus on race in thier own life. sad but true.

        • Anthony

“Since I got no idea how YOUR CANDIDATE….” – says AL.

This is called “avoidance conversation”… running for the proverbial spiderhole.

No one is asking that you define what Bush or McCain “should have done”… EVERYONE is expecting you to define “what YOU would have done”….

I’ve seen nothing in that vein of your postings.

      • Anthony

        JC -
These POLLS everyone keeps citing, are just tools to keep people off-kilter. All you have to do is stop at the local pub to understand where most have their heads and hearts. The CFR went about buying up the Media starting back in the Fifties. Has anyone ever been privy to the Questions in these Polls as they cite the numbers on the Teleprompter Shows? Curiously, they never show the actual questions, do they….(?) Have you checked to see how hard it is to take a said POLL that is being cited, so you can at least pretend to participate? Ever wonder, why is that?

All you really need to do is watch the market place and stop to have a beer now and again, to speak with the real folks out there – and not have total BS shoved at ya all day long. The Teleprompter Readers work only for THE FED – they only care about who controls the money. And, that includes FOXNEWS, who wqere cited (in one of your polls) as actually having a 70% employee base that preferred to be thought of as LIBERAL. I’m not sure I buy into any Poll. What I do see, is the Left and Right are working real hard to shove Libertarianism out the door, no longer allowed for consumption.

Tell me – what do you see?

    • DaveH

Watch John Stossel on Fox Business News. He is doing an excellent job explaining why Big Government is the Problem, Not the Solution.

      • JeffH

I really like Stossel and his Libertarian views, unfortunately my cable package doesn’t allow me to watch FOX business anymore, so I have to catch as catch can. I’m also starting to watch more of Ron Paul when I can.

        • DaveH

Time to switch Cable services, Jeff.

          • JeffH

Just a matter of spending a few dollars a month more. I’ve been contemplating it.

    • http://thesilentmajorityunites.com J.E. “KIRT” KIRTLEY

I’d like to see the fedral incime tax system along with the IRS abolished.
Replace it with a 18% fed income tax. EXEMPT Food – clothing – medical & housing (up to $250,000.00. These exemptions is where the great majority of the poor spend most of their funds. Now we can stop whinnying about the poor.

Insist that the congress MUST stay within the budget.

      KIRT

      • BigBadJohn

Agree Kurt but I would take one more step.
Flat tax but include ALL sources of income as income, capital gains, dividends, interest, stock options grants, etc. Then eliminate all exemptions. The first $30000 for everyone is exempt from tax.

        Simple and fair.

        • DaveH

That’s your idea of fair? Putting the burden of Big Government on the shoulder’s of the people who benefit least from it?
I think everybody should pay the same amount. We don’t have to show an income statement to buy a car or groceries (not yet at least). Why should those who work less hard get to dictate more Government that is paid by the people who work hard?
Big Government would stop growing immediately if the whiners had to pay for that which they desire.

      • Anthony

That’s the most basic and FAIR premise there is to turning things around.

HOWEVER – I offer that, it should be State Taxation, and then States can decide how much each should send to the Federal Governemt (not the FED). Let each State decide how it should support itself. Areas with larger populations would automatically be supporting themselves – with no free rides and no exceptions [..exceptions are the order of the day in the Obama Administration].

Neal Boortz’s FairTax Book has some great insights.

I would disagree with one other premise you have –

It shouldn’t take 18% when it comes to what people should pay.
it shouldn’t take any more than 10%, ….ever! End of discussion.

As long as it’s only 10%, then Politicians will have to watch what they spend or be automatically replaced by someone else from their State, which would then cause all sorts of issues with those that still think being permanent Politicians is a good thing – which it is not.

Checks and balances from the entire process have been removed in waves – they need to be put back as originally stated.

  • American liberal

Bernanke also said fears the economy would slip back into recession have receded…..

  • JPW-

I’m not much into the idea of bailouts for banks and auto company’s but historically speaking if it werenot for the ability of the auto makers to turn their industry around for the manufacture of war matterial.Such as planes tanks jeeps etc during WW2 we would probably be speaking German now.The auto industry is one industry we cannot afford to lose for national security.President Obama was right on this on.

    • American liberal

Jpw… I agree.. I don’t think many of us liked the bailouts …what I hate the most is seeing companys that failed and were bailedout giving CEOs multi million dollar bonuses… I’ll never get that… I’ve always thought a bonuse was for people that had sucess… I don’t remember when president Obama wanted to put a cap on those bonuses the Republicans had a fit…and said goverment had no business being involved in bonuses… This was after the fact that the goverment was already involved in bailingout these same companys…. I’d have no problem with the goverment saying No! To these bonuses…is that really socialism or common sense?

      • George E

It’s tyranny. The government has no business telling a private company how to run its business. That’s the job of its owners.

        • Sally S.

It’s owners are the stock holders and the Tax payers of the USA now own part of it. Why would you now want your own company fail? Obama doesn’t own it, The tax payers own it.

          • s c

[Comrade?] Sally, about half of Obummer’s ideas come straight from Lenin and Marx. He would have made a good Bolshevik. If only it was possible to send some people back in time so they could live up to their ‘full potential.’
It makes me wonder if you have kids and you’re (somehow) looking forward to America being a new “worker’s paradise.”

          • JeffH

s c, half? I would surmise a much higher percentage.

  • Dave

American liberal, you are the relief pitcher that came into the game, and being 10 runs behind gives up another 20 runs. Yet all you can
talk about is the 10 run deficit you inherited. No, my mistake, Obama
is the relief pitcher and you are the baseball fan crying over the 30 run loss saying, “It was the original pitchers fault.” When your man gives up 20 it is so much easier to focus elsewhere!!!

    • American liberal

Dave… It’s to bad president Obamas presidency had to follow President Bushs disaster but every economist in the country says the only way to stimulate this economy is to pump more money into it… Thus the spending..and had McCain & Palin( god forbid) been elected the same stimulas would have been nessessary and probley most of the bailouts ..these bailout policys weren’t just coming from Obamas people… They came from all economist and took place during Bushs administration….so this isn’t an Obama policy… No matter who had won the election we would have had to stimulate the economy… Unless you think just going down the same path that brought us here would fix it

      • George E

Please study capitalist economic principles. Obama’s big-government policies will NOT help the economy revive for any significant time. They are anti-capitalist in nature, regardless how you characterize them.

      • http://www.boblivingstonletter.com/ Bob Livingston

        Dear American Liberal,
Not every economist in the country believes that stimulus spending is what it takes to “fix” the economy. Only Keynesians and their ilk. Read http://mises.org/daily/3310 or http://www.lewrockwell.com/higgs/higgs105.html for starters. There are many others, should one choose to look. Please study Austrian school economics. While I agree with little you say, I will agree with you on one point: Had McCain been elected we would have the same failed economic and war policies as we had before, and as we have now.
        Best wishes,
        Bob

        • kimmy barns

          Bob,
how do you fix an economy without government spending? If people are loosing jobs left and right who is left but the government to spend money?
If the banks would have been left to fail what would that have done? How much money would the government have had to pay out in FDIC Insurance? What about all the people that would have lost everything and people that would have lost retirment and so on?
As for the car companies, the government should have given them loans instead of buying into the company. But I don’t think we really want the American Auto industry to fail do we?
I do not agree with everything Obama is doing, but I feel he was the lesser of two evils at the time. The great thing about this country is that every four years we can change our President if we want to. We can change most of Congress every two years if we want. The voting poll is where the power of the people is. People will vote based on how their life is at the time of the election. If people have jobs and money in 2012 Obama stands a good chance of getting re-elected. If there is still 10% unemployment and uncertainty then he will probably be packing his bags to go back to chicago.
I must say it is totally discusting how hateful people have been. It seems the right has no ideas but knows everything is wrong. If you want me to vote against him in 2012 you better produce a canidate that tells me how they are going to fix it and not just point fingers at the guy that’s there now.

          • http://www.boblivingstonletter.com/ Bob Livingston

            Dear kimmy barns,

I’m glad you asked. I can only give you a nutshell answer here, but I invite you to read more articles on our site. There we go into greater detail. I would also direct you to the links I gave American liberal. You can also read some of Peter Schiff’s work on his blog http://peterschiffblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/iinstead-of-seeding-soil-for-real.html.

In short, the government should have gotten out of the way. There were “panics,” as they were called, prior to the Great Depression. They were allowed to run their course and lasted only a short time. They serve a purpose: that is, weeding out inefficiencies and rewarding efficiencies. That means some businesses fail. Others step in to pick up the slack. Workers are laid off, then they are hired by other companies that are growing.

The only real way out of our current situation is by cutting government spending, reducing taxes and eliminating the regulations on businesses. And the Federal Reserve must be eliminated. It creates the bubbles that lead to the recessions. I have written about this before. You can also read some of the books I recommend at http://www.personalliberty.com/suggested-reading/ to further your education. You mention the FDIC. It is programs like that, where entities can take risks but don’t have to suffer the consequences of failure (because of guaranteed government bailouts), that have helped push us to the brink.

Just like Hoover’s and FDR’s policies in the Great Depression, Bush’s and Obama’s government interventionist policies now have and will prolong and deepen the recession. We are on an unsustainable path, and an economic crash is now almost a forgone conclusion.

Be sure and check out my articles set to run the next two Mondays where I spell out the effects of government intervention in the economy.

            Best wishes,
            Bob

          • kimmy barns

OK, so what can we do? Bush and Obama have done what they feel is right. I don’t believe either one is trying to crash the economy. There were many economist on the news back in 2008. Some were saying we have to do this, others said not to. How do you know who is right and who is wrong?
The other thing, we can’t keep electing the same people over and over for Congress and expect different results can we? I have made up my mind I’m not voting for the incumbant senator or house member. My senator has been there for like 40 years, I think it’s time for him to move on. My congressman is nothing more than a yes man. howeverever the party leaders tell him to vote is how he votes. I look up his voting record on Congress.org and always votes with the party. So that means I’ll be voting for one Democrat and one Republican.
These people on here are passionate but I don’t think they all quite get it. They try to place blame on the President or the dems or the republicans, whatever the case may be. but it takes congress to pass a bill and not just the President. The Republican party may be in the minority, but I feel they have been acting like sore losers ever since election day. Don’t tell me how bad things are now, I can figure that out on my own, tell me how you plan to fix it.
I think it’s time we throw out the whole house and start over. I don’t know much about the races around the country but I’m hoping JD Hayworth wins the nomination in Arizona. I think it’s time Mr. McCain retires too. But I have no say in that race.

          • Anthony

            Thanks for that, Bob. Seriously!

            Kimmy -
The first step to recovery as a Nation, is to either get rid of, or nationalize, THE FED. Ron Paul is not on the wrong side of this discussion. The 98% of the greed mongering politicians currently in Office are on the wrong side of not only the debate, but the people, as well.

It’s no shock to me, that anyone business (bank?) associated with the FED is getting HUGE bailouts combined with HUGE BONUSES – they did what they were told and are now being paid off. If they don’t pay them off, what happens? You have a mass financial snitch on your hands… that’s what! Not even the FED could stop that, nor could any of the Rothschilds.

        • eyeswideopen

Bob, DaveH, recommended that I read Milton Friedman, who stated there is no Austrian economics, only good economics and bad economics. I came across an article written by Mr. Caplan, which made a lot of sense, and totally refutes the Austrian ideology. Have you read this article? http://econfaculty.gmu.edu/bcaplan/whyaust.htm
I have been searching for countries who use the Austrian concept and cannot find enough to make a comparison with our system. Could you please identify those countries for me? Thank you in advance.

          • http://www.boblivingstonletter.com/ Bob Livingston

            Dear eyeswideopen,

I would expect Friedman to say something like that. He is a monetarist and he and Bernanke believe the Fed didn’t inflate enough in the Great Depression. I haven’t yet read the article you linked for me, but I will when I have time to get to it. Thanks. To your questions about which countries subscribe to Austrian theory I wanted to be sure I got the answer completely correct, so I went to the horse’s mouth, http://www.mises.org. Here is the response I received from Floy Lilly, a faculty member at Mises Institute:

“This is easy to reply to; no government subscribes to Austrian School economics. They wish we did not exist. They elevated Keynes because he tells them what they want to hear, which is spend, spend, spend.

This is perfectly rational to them since the Austrian School does not endorse government intervention into markets or designed inflation and fraudulent fractional reserve banking systems.

You have caught me at a time when I have just put the Austrian Business Cycle Theory into one thousand words. This, plus Lew Rockwell’s great article on why Austrian economics matter should help inform you.

But, there are heroic efforts to subdue the spending appetites of the state. After the wall fell in Eastern Europe, the first president of Estonia was an Austrian-schooled man who greatly reduced the burden of the state. They prospered. I have also written of New Zealand’s heroic slashing of their old smothering state which was Austrian inspired. Lew said today is is going to re-run that article.

In the USA, only Congressman Ron Paul is of the Austrian School.

In LRC today, Lew wrote of the heroic establishment of a Mises Institute in Brazil. He and others just returned from their debut. But, Brazil’s government is still light years away from an economic system helpful to real people.”

The 1,000-word article was included in the email (it is excellent, by the way) but is not available on Mises.org as of this morning. You will probably be able to find it there in a couple of days.

            Best wishes,
            Bob

Yeah. Was a sad run on suicides there for awhile.

And what about BO’s gay lover – what was his name? Young or something? The one he had murdered to keep him quiet?

My candidate would cut Government Spending dramatically and thus lessen the burden heaped on the shoulders of the Slave Citizens. He/She would allow people to take care of themselves instead of turning them into useless dependents.

Funny, there are MANY OBNOXIOUS LIBERALS on FoxNews. There are ZERO
    conservatives on the lib channels.

Personally, I don’t rely on ANY OF THEM. It’s no so much what they report, as what they DON’T REPORT.

    • Sally S.

Should I be affended by being called a liberal?

      • DaveH

It depends. What does “affended” mean?

      • Anthony

Nah – it just means people see you can blend quite easily… or mislead as well. Who knows where that could lead….

Kate… Tell me which liberal station you listen to and program that doesn’t allow conservatives..,?.. I want to hear this..

  • kate8

And, of course, if your liberal idols don’t report something, then it must not be true! LOL.

Well, Sal, that’s why it’s good to explore many sources. Check records. Be as thorough as possible. Then, and this is the kicker,

Oh thant’s what I forgot to do is think. I’m glad you pointed that out for me. So GW really did blow up the world trade center. Must be true becuae the liberal media didn’t mention it.

    • kate8

We do know that the only real reason behind any confiscation program set up by government for the “good of the people” is just to increase their source of plunder, which, in actuality, is used to their own ends and to our eventual detriment.

Notice how all the socialists in power are EXTREMELY WEALTHY, largely off the backs of the taxpayers? And they don’t even pay taxes!

The libs all worship at the feet of the feet of those who amass and hoard wealth while espousing everyone else spread what little they have around. Stockholm’s syndrome.

      • Pete

So it’s kind of like Sarah Palin earning 12 million in like 6 months. Really rich, really fast, and getting most of it from the fearful taxpayer. Only in her case the taxpayer willfully hands it over to her just to listen to her tell us how bad Obama is. But we already know that. so why are they still paying to hear it?
        Dumb

        • American liberal

Pete… My opinion that the election of president Obama had more to do with how bad Bush and the republicans were than how good Obama is….our choice was McCain / Palin…. Or Obama/ Biden…. I’d stll vote for Obama / Biden anyday… It’s just to bad president Oamas presidency had to follow Bushs … But that how domocracy works…

The Middle Class in the US was at its biggest when the top rate of income taxes were at 90%. After Reagan cut tax rates on the highest incomes to 28%, the rich kept more of their money and put the burden on the middle class, which started the erosion of the middle class.

      • kate8

Conservative’s have no problem with people gaining wealth, if it’s done through honest enterprise. “Willfully hand it over” is a key statement here, Pete.

I’ll bet also that Sarah Palin has many places where she GIVES a great deal back – WILLINGLY. That’s part of the conservative philosphy. And she doesn’t set up a photo op to do it. If you have to make sure everyone knows, it doesn’t count.

The difference between conservatives and the party of “as long as it’s someone else’s money”.

        • Pete

Yeah, you are right, Palin does give it back. Did you see the jewlery she wearing when she was on stage with Bachman?

Of course what was she charging for photos with her? $10,000? Who would pay $10,000 to have their picture taken with Palin? Just goes to show these people aren’t very bright.

          • Pete

On the other hand, Palin is actually quite smart. She knows that her pretty face a folksy talk can get people to open up their wallets. Pretty girls have been used to sell everything from cars to floor mops. It’s the people handing over their hard earned money that are stupid for buying into it all.

          • kate8

And Pete, how come you don’t have a problem with Michelle O flying her kids to London for fish ‘n’ chips on our dime to the tune of millions, or the lavish WH parties, the $1,000 steakes BO likes, while all the while telling us how we have to sacrifice and tighten our belts? Or Pelosi’s fancy jet rides back and forth to DC at several hundred grand per trip……The administration spends more on personal entertainment than any other, and all in a time of desperation for the country.

And what about BO giving $17million in stimulus funds to the WA university in order to keep them from firing Michelle’s brother?

Talk about your hypocrites. No one abuses taxpayer money for their personal high-life than liberals. You guys are disgusting.

For a summary of the Healthcare Bill:
      http://www.mydollarplan.com/health-care-reform-bill/

Do you mean we can just ignore the Fines?

If a Government takeover of the Healthcare Industry proves to be efficient, it will break a long string of failures. So given that it probably won’t be run efficiently, there will be shortages of medical practioners and supplies. Who will determine who gets the scarce supplies and procedures? A Government panel of course. If deprived of life-saving care, people will die. So are these Life Panels? I think not.

      • Anthony

“proves to be efficient”…. You are joking, of course.

The Government has never been “efficient” at anything they do.
The Military used to be efficient until ‘Nam – after which they also have gone by the wayside.

  • 69Cam620

The sliding economy has been occurring for generations. For the first 140 years, the Constitution had prohibited the spending of federal tax dollars on anything that wasn’t necessary for the defense of the nation and its ability to oversee interstate commerce and foreign relations. The “New Deal” was created while the administration recognized that it was illegal which set the precedent to allow the snowball to turn into an avalanche. Social programs are at the heart of the problem; when you force individuals to provide money or services to an individual or group that in no way compensates for the services or goods received, it is slavery. The government is not a provider to its citizens, we are the provider to the government. When we fear government, instead of the government fearing us, we have lost the principle in which this country was founded and have thus lost the fundamentals of the freedom that was intended.
If I force you to give me money at gun-point, then turn around and give that money to the poor, who is the charitable person here? Charity can only be if the individual has something they created or earned and decide for themselves to give. I am tired of the government thinking they have the right to steal our money and give it away in the idea that they are being charitable, it is preposterous.
Social Security wasn’t supposed to be a “tax” it was supposed to be the government holding money for us so that we have some safety net when we retire. I personally know that I am more responsible than anyone else with MY money. That’s why this should be optional, or at least be honest and tell us it is more money stolen. People that get upset about what others pay into SS should realize that under its premise it doesn’t have any bearing on what you receive. I don’t think anyone should get any more back than they put in with the interest they should have earned. The first person that received SS put $2.20 into SS and received over $20k back from the system. That was the first problem, second they sucked all the funds out and wrote an IOU that has never been repaid.

Social programs are a waste of money and enforces a form of ‘legal’ slavery. The government is inefficient in these programs with only 20 cents per dollar actually getting to its recipients and the rest in administration to get them the money. I think real charity organizations would be better fitting to take these concerns over from the government where people can be charitable on their own accord. And thus ending the slavery of working people to their non-working counterparts.

The biggest problem with this administration is that they want to further these programs and take little regard to the actual money they have available to spend. We are cutting where we need the money and increasing the appropriation of funds in services that are not efficient and that impose slavery upon the citizens. Taking over the utility companies, manufacturing and now the health care market takes us one step closer to total socialism. Forcing people to purchase anything under the power of the government through the enforcement of fines and imprisonment is hardly a free country. And a study of history shows that this administration is heading in the same path as Germany…they went to socialism, then directly slid to Hitlerism under the Nazis…it can happen again right under our noses if we don’t wake up.

I have a million reasons to dislike Obama and his clan, not one of which has anything to do with race, gender or any other ideals of pooh which Liberals like to sling at their critics. For lack of the ability to properly debate, this is where they default as we see from ‘American Liberal’. Which btw is an oxymoron, liberal in the dictionary has a totally different meaning in its classical sense; in that definition you should be agreeing with our ideology.

I saw a poll this morning on the tea baggers that only 6 % of them believe Bush was responsible for this recession… So by that poll how can a person not conclude that the baggers just aren’t very bright

    • Patriot1776

Because maybe most of them understand this was NOT caused by just one president.

    • 69Cam620

AL you want to talk economics, bring it on.

First, reconsider your sources and review the state of the economy before Bush took office. We were in a recession BEFORE he took office. As a matter of fact, there are many reasons that lead to a poorer economy than we would have seen under Bush; we could much worse off. With all of the natural disasters, attacks and other intangibles we fared extremely well under Bush. Look up the stats and if you’re not bright enough I’ll do the leg work when I have the time and post them. Calling the Tea Party “tea baggers” is childish and ignorant, and to call them “not bright” is only a real offense since it is coming from someone with an IQ under 100. But remember that we had a real recession before Bush, before he was sworn in he was being blamed for economic issues that he logically couldn’t have had anything to do with, the Internet bubble burst in 2000 prior to his term, and then we had the 9/11 attacks that cost the US 600 billion dollars (not in rebuilding and restructuring, but from the economic impact of these trade centers being disabled), then add in the natural disasters, the fact that he wasn’t able to get social programs reformed, the fact that in 2006 the Dems took over Congress and raised taxes and increased spending. Etc etc.

AND do some research on Reagen, he took in more tax revenue than any other President before him in percentages staggeringly higher than expected. Social program spending increased too, but the percentage of GDP spent on them was much less. The economy boomed under Reagan but what most people forget is that while he was helping our economy the Dems in congress kept spending like there was no tomorrow. The key is to not spend more than the country makes, this is the only way to reduce the national debt and make sure we don’t lose our AAA rating. Right now we’d go bankrupt if our rates were increased on the money borrowed.

This is the point of the article that you clearly don’t get. I can’t answer for what someone else would do, but if I were President I’d cap social programs and cut out the bureaucracy in order to make them more efficient and work toward getting rid of handouts and make people earn their money one way or another. Nothing is free, it has to be procured from somewhere or from the service of another. Second, I’d reduce the restrictions on business enough to promote growth and research so that we could increase our dominance in the global markets and increase our GDP. Reduce taxes to promote growth; higher taxes only serve to stifle ambition. Once the economy begins to grow we can take and redirect funds to reduce our debts and thus get rid of the outrageous interest fees. Our country is in a predicament similar to a person with a credit card addiction, spending money they don’t have with money leveraged from other debts. We are hemorrhaging debt and need to stop the bleeding. We aren’t in the proper economic situation to be worried about forcing a socialist health care plan, the administration talks about money as if it is theirs to spend and it is in abundance. We need to put tighter controls on government programs such as Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac (just an example) and make them adhere to Capitalist economic rules. Businesses can’t go about business recklessly with the idea that they can just increase their funding by increasing taxes, if a business worked like the government it would have been bankrupt and out of business a long time ago. That is the biggest problem with government intervening in private industry, it has no checks and balances against its spending and their is too much politics involved to be efficient, this is why they were restricted from controlling private industry by the founders…an ideal that has been thrown under the rug by every administration since the 20s.

And to say that the War in Iraq and Afghanistan is draining our economy is about as ludicrous as your love of socialism. The people working overseas are American companies, contractors, civilians and soldiers who earn more money here than they could in the US. This money is returned into the tax system and to the banks and industries in the US as they pay off debts and buy new cars etc. There is some bad spending, I am not refuting that, but 8 years of war is still cheaper than the amount that Obama has spent in his first year as dictator. If you want to earn more than your $8 an hour, maybe you should grow a pair and go overseas and work…actually earn your living.

I have my own ideas and ideals, so no one party or administration will be able to make me agree with them 100%. But you can’t argue spending more and more money and throwing it down the drain and then argue that it will reduce our debt. If you don’t believe me, try doing it with your own finances and get back to me.

      • JC

    Todays Headlines

WASHINGTON — An Army doctor is under investigation after questioning on YouTube whether President Barack Obama is U.S.-born — then disobeying orders to report for duty in Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin failed to report to Fort Campbell, Ky., on Monday, showing up instead at his old job in a clinic in the Pentagon, Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, an Army spokesman, said Wednesday. Lakin was reassigned immediately to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington while the investigation is under way.

Though officials in Hawaii verify that Obama was born there, so-called birthers claim he was born outside the United States and is ineligible to be president. Lakin says he wants to see the birth certificate as proof Obama is his commander in chief and thus that the deployment order for Afghanistan is legal.

Lakin is under investigation for his failure to report for deployment and for conduct unbecoming an officer.

A Greeley, Colo., native, Lakin said in a video posted on YouTube that he was an 18-year Army veteran “choosing to disobey” orders he says are illegal, including an order to deploy to Afghanistan for a second tour. He said he was doing so at “great peril” to his career and future and “inviting my own court-martial.”

A court-martial is only one of the punishment options, and among the handful of other known birthers in the military, some have merely received administrative reprimands.

On Monday, Lakin showed up for his job as a flight surgeon at the Pentagon clinic that is attached to a Walter Reed medical brigade, Garver said. His commander, Col. Gordon Roberts, summoned him to Walter Reed and told him he was being reassigned.

Hawaii Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino issued statements last year and in October 2008 saying that she’s seen vital records that prove Obama is a natural-born U.S. citizen. But the state said last month it was still getting between 10 and 20 e-mails seeking verification of Obama’s birth each week, most from outside Hawaii.

A few of the requesters continue to pepper the state Health Department with the same letters seeking the same information, even after they’re told state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest. Responding wastes time and money, officials have said.

Both Fukino and the state registrar of vital statistics have verified that the Health Department holds Obama’s original birth certificate.

    • American liberal

Mikey… Yep, I saw that story to…. I don’t believe any proof in the world would be enough for these birther nutcases…

        • http://personalliberty.com RChick

          Am Lib:

Unfortunately, the Republican party did not offer a very good candidate the last election. I also think that when the Republicans were in “power,” they screwed up. They could have done much better and they lost their way. We cannot change what happened in the past, but we can elect new representatives who think like neither political party thank pre-2009. We can elect those who realize that we as a country are going to go through some very hard times before we can right the wrongs of the former and current administrations.

I do think that the last thing any thinking politician would do during a time of high unemployment is introduce a piece of legislation concerning “health care” that is highly unpopular by the people, created behind closed doors, extremely partisen, is 2,700 pages, passed in an irregular way, fines citizens who do not purchase health care, etc., etc., etc. I could go on for hours. Oh, wait!!! My favorite: Changes to the legislation concerning taxes on “cadillac” insurance plans after the leader of SEIU visited the president in the Whie House a good 20-some times. Blatant buy-offs for votes.

That legislation was not the answer. You don’t make an entitlement program in the middle of the largest unemployment and recession in 30 some years.

I think that the whole process that took place with health care (as well as the looming “tax and trade”) is the very thing that kept business from expanding. I know it has highly affected my family’s spending. If one doesn’t know what to expect in the future, especially when the future could be huge tax increases, how can he/she plan for it? Now that this legislation has passed (I have doubts it will stick), at least businesses know what to expect and how to plan around the huge taxes that will be imposed upon them.

In regards to health care, “our” politicians have said over and over how they would like to handle the problem. Unfortunately, the mainstream media didn’t give big chunks of time to those people. I will repeat some of them for you: Less regulation of insurance companies, i.e., business across state lines; tort reform; medical savings accounts. There are more, but I cannot recall them at this time.

I do know that our gals/guys would have focused on jobs, likely with tax cuts for businesses and not some overreaching piece of crap legislation.

          Does that help?

What should have been done? Less government intervention.

Clinton caused the economic disaster with fannie mae and freedy mac fiasco. The nail in the coffin was the election of 2006 when pelosi and the democrats ran the country in economic hell. Hussein Obama with 10% un-employment(closer to 17% when you count the people who have gave up trying to look for work), stimulus package waist of billions, govt. take-over of auto industry, wallstreet, banking system, healthcare(1/6 of economy), and quad-tripling the debt in just over 14 months in office, will be the final end of any chance of economic recovery. Hussein Obama wants this so all americans will have to depend on him and huge government. If we can survive until 2012 this thug administration is God-willing voted out-of-office. His approval rating is dropping more and more evedryday, as more and more americans are waking up everyday and realizing what a fraud Hussein Obama is. After this thug gets through all the american people will have is “change”, as in coins. Reverse the 2006 election by voting out Pelosi and Reid and this criminal congress, with a approval rating under 20%, in 2010 and Hussein Obama in 2012. We must do this for our kids and grandkids to have any chance to realize and enjoy the american dream that this once great nation had in the past. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! Thanks again for another great article Mr. Livingston, you are a brave and patriotic american.

A phased-in 23% cut in individual tax rates; top rate dropped from 70% to 50%.
An accelerated depreciation deductions; replaced depreciation system with ACRS.
Indexed individual income tax parameters and created 10% exclusion on income for two-earner married couples.
A phased-in increase in estate tax exemption from $175,625 to $600,000 in 1987.
    A reduced Windfall Profit taxes.
Allowed all working taxpayers to establish IRAs.
Expanded provisions for employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs)
replaced $200 interest exclusion with 15% net interest exclusion ($900 cap) (begin in 1985).

Gosh, I looked really hard at where Reagan raised taxes on the middle class…Let me look again…nope…nothin’ in there about raising taxes on lower income either. BTW you’ll notice that the tax cuts REDUCED by 28% the confiscatory rates of up to 70%. How would you like 7 out of ten dollars you earned taken in taxes? But, I sure tryed to see how allowing IRA’s, adding an exculsion for married couples, letting heirs keep money in the family, etc. somehow made the middle class pay more…Maybe you can explain that?

    • Anthony

It wasn’t reagan. However, the DEMS did do a good job of raising FEES which are basically mandatory for citizens whether they like it or not. License plate fees, you name it… it doesn’t always have to have the label of: TAX – tied to it.

What we need are “Federal spending CUTS,”
In plain words the Congress can not spend any more money on new what evers.
And what they have set up in Government jobs needs drastic cuts here are just a few that can be totaly tossed; and no we would not miss them at all.

    The Justice Dept.
    EPA,
    DEA.
    BATF
    All Social programs.
All State funding for education by way of the Fed.
    Massive military spending cuts.
Get out of the Middle east.
Stop giving money to anyone out of the of the US.
Stop lending Military aid to anyone.
    Stop all new government employing.
    Stop all Federal grants.
Stop all Federal aid programs to all non US students.
Stop all Federal support for the ACLU
Cut the benifits packages of all Federal Employes
Cut the pay packages to all Federal employes.

With just these few items I would think we would have a
    strong start on a rebuild.

But with out such actions tax cuts will do little to nothing just as
tax hikes will only reduce the working force by removing even more jobs from the work place for the obvious reasons.

Spending many times your GDP on “social programs” and government jobs and benifit packages – is crazy and will not hold out, as the money train will run dry.

    Say NO – to VAT,
Say NO – to the Budget,
Say No – to any new spending!
Say No – To any more Government its to big as it is.
Say NO – to any special interest groups.
Say NO – To any special programs of any kind.

    • JeffH

…and do away with the Federal Reserve…a bigger problem than Obama’s spending.

Obama is now positioning himself (government)with the Financial Reform proposals which could, at some time down the road, lead to a total takeover of the banking system in the US. Buyers beware!

President Obama claimed that three regulatory proposals will make the system safer.
“First, we’re proposing new rules to protect consumers and a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency to enforce those rules.” This is a very good thing, and of course the banks are adamantly opposed. But this Agency will not by itself bring us financial stability; that requires change at the level of how banks and other financial institutions are operated.

Second, he talked about “gaps in regulation”; this is international finance bureaucrat code for mush (doesn’t the President know this?). The specific potentially interesting pieces he put under this heading were run together in this paragraph,
While holding the Federal Reserve fully accountable for regulation of the largest, most interconnected firms, we’ll create an oversight council to bring together regulators from across markets to share information, to identify gaps in regulation, and to tackle issues that don’t fit neatly into an organizational chart. We’ll also require these financial firms to meet stronger capital and liquidity requirements and observe greater constraints on their risky behavior. That’s one of the lessons of the past year. The only way to avoid a crisis of this magnitude is to ensure that large firms can’t take risks that threaten our entire financial system, and to make sure they have the resources to weather even the worst of economic storms.

The oversight council is unlikely to make a difference. If you ask someone, “Who is responsible for this problem?” and they answer, “Well, we have a committee,” does that make you feel better or worse?

The most remarkable phrasing is probably,
Even as we’ve proposed safeguards to make the failure of large and interconnected firms less likely, we’ve also proposed creating what’s called “resolution authority” in the event that such a failure happens and poses a threat to the stability of the financial system. This is intended to put an end to the idea that some firms are “too big to fail.”

It is very hard to understand how the administration can say this with a straight face.

I dont know what your thinking, but I do know that when Bush instituted his tax cuts, the small business I work for, hired 30 more guys. We went from a work force of 65 to a workforce of 95. Id then looking at the reality of the situation, noting that it factually gave 30 more guys jobs, who were now paying federal, state, and local taxes, and who were out in the general public spending money on cars, houses, furniture, clothes, groceries and everything else, that the facts say this was a good thing. Lambast it if you want, but I see results here that say it was a good thing. However, since election time, and all the business’s know these tax cuts are coming to an end, and that their taxes are going up, sad to say over half of these guys have lost their jobs, and once the tax cuts are repealed, millions more nation wide will be losing their jobs. So dont tell me tax cuts didnt benefit the working class. Ive seen it everyday that it did benefit us working stiffs. But then again, I dont deal in political agendas, I deal in the truth, whether I like it or not. I did not like the way the Bush admin didnt reign in their spending, and I willingly said so. But the truth is, his tax cuts benefitted the working man, as I seen it with my own two eyes everyday, so no one is going to tell me otherwise. One cannot change the truth, as much as one might like to.

American liberal, obviously you have a problem with reading comprehension. The article is not about tax cuts or increases as much as it is about spending. And no President and Congress has spent nearly as much as this one. Spending is at the root of many of the bubbles that we have had that have since burst and caused the problems that we are currently experiencing. Until this government, both Democrats and Republicans, gets a handle on spending, we will not see a recovery. You can spin reports about unemployment numbers and inflation all you want, but a sustainable recovery will not occur as long as spending continues to go up.

  • JB

Go out and try to make a living with your OWN money instead of someone else’s for a change. Maybe even put a few people to work by creating jobs for them. Once you try that and see what you’re up against, then you will change your liberal tune and get pissed too!

  • sam

Maybe because of the war we are still paying for and that Obama said he would leave. Or maybe because of the Prescription drug program Bush that came during Bush. Or maybe because we bailed out Goldman Sachs, etc. Read the article! There is no tax cut if the government is increasing spending!

  • http://donthaveone Beberoni

And it seems, everytime you have a pacifist appeasing democrat in office, every working man gets his taxes raised so that the lazy drunks and drug addicts that dont want to work, can collect more handouts from social agencies, so that the dems can keep them dependant on them, and keep their uneducated votes. Or in the case of GM and Chrysler, they can just throw a couple billions of our tax dollars to them, and buy their future votes. Either way, they are using our hard earned tax dollars, to buy votes with. There isnt no if’s, and’s, or butt’s about it. They are buying votes. However, the game is over. They are all leaving in 2010 and 2012. Watch and see. 0-3 so far. They really screwed up this time, putting an unqualified, untested, uninformed, and un-American into the office. bottomline… The tax cuts didn’t work….and President Clintons tax code work far better… 22 million job were created…so that kills your argument….this country did far better when the burden wasn’t just on the middle class…. In other words you’ve been giving your money to the rich… I’m ok with Clintons tax rate … It worked..the tax cuts to the rich have worked?.. And hiring?.., 22 million jobs created during Clintons presidency…. 700,000 jobs a month were lost after 2006…, it wasn’t democrat policy that lost those jobs…I know your going to try and say it was the 2006?democrats but they were called the ” Do nothing congress ” by republicans for not passing any bills… And Bush had veto power …

I am so happy to see that someone besides myself had gotten on the bandwagon. Politicians and government employees have the idea that when they get their paycheck somehow it magically become different money.

The author was correct about taxes but missed another source of money for government spending. There is a bigger source than taxes, DEBT!

The following is not about someone doing their job, but rather a lesson in economics:
Every government employee adds expense and reduces income to the government.
Every tax ‘paid’ by government employees is just a reduction in the amount of tax revenue they take from the private sector for their pay.
Government wages and spending cannot stimulate the economy because their spending just returns the money to the private sector they took it from.
Social Security is in the toilet because about half of the recipients never paid a dime into it. DEDUCTIONS FROM GOVERNMENT EMPOLOYEE PAYCHECKS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL SECURITY. THESE CONTRIBUTIONS JUST MOVED TAX REVENUE FROM ONE GOVERNMENT POT TO ANOTHER!
once government spending, including wages, exceeds 15% of the income of the private sector it is no longer sustainable. Current estimates are that government spending is 140% more than the private sector.
The obvious result is a sucked up economy and debt!
The only solution is an immediate 85% reduction in the size of government and a reduction in wages and benefits equal to that of the private sector. Even these cuts would not reduce the debt only stop it from growing.

Obama’s connections to the radical-left politics espoused by Pfleger and Wright are broad and deep. american lib, this reply is not just pointed at you . . . again, most of what i’ve seen so far is no one is COMMENTING ON THE ARTICLE as it is written! the article holds both parties equally to blame, going way back before Bush or Obama, doesn’t it? what started the housing bubble? a republican congress under the leadership of Bill Clinton, deregulating the banks (go on wiki and read about glass-steigle). when the liberals and the conservatives realize that they have been divided-and-conquered by the 545 poeple that run this country, get smart and realize we’ve ALL been screwed by almost All of the 545 people legally responsible for running this country, (see Charlie Reese to learn about the 545 people). and if you go back TO THE ARTICLE, the problem goes back to well before the housing bubble, whether you liked Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, whatever, the problem was well rooted by then! no, I didn’t vote for Obama, or McCain, I voted Libertarian, I tell people that bitch about Obama that they have missed the whole show, this country has been voting for Obama for forty years, here he is! It’s too bad the average voter understood 1000% more about was going on with Monica Lewinski than the really serious things that have been going on for soooo long! That’s what’s so great about this article, it explains what has really been happening far better than anything I have ever seen in print, so go back and read this article, and this time make an effort to see what it is saying!

Happy Tax Day! Whatever happened to leading by serving – isn’t that what our forefathers poured into the Constitution. Why do we play this blame game over and over when we don’t gain and everyone becomes divided – not what was intended when these United States were formed. Whatever happened to constructively debating, where we don’t have to necessarily agree or accept what the other side is offering; but we should be empathetic and understanding to where they are coming from. Then maybe we can see a truer picture of our past and take the best of what every party has to contribute to grow and foster a united way through our adversity. In other words form a new paradigm that promotes healthy, positive unity (not uniformity) taking our diversity & good faith to form a trust once more in the vain that our forefathers, grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters, and neighbors sacrificed believed and intended these United States to grow. How they envisioned our nation to thrive and prosper into a brighter future than they achieved – An America where all Americans could envision and work towards achieving their American dream and allow their fellow citizens to do the same.
Whatever happened to sacrificing today in order to achieve life, liberty, and happiness for tomorrow? We are the stewards presently empowered in this God Blessed land and how we serve as citizens, patriots, brothers & sisters to our common cause – FREEDOM – will pave the responsible way this country (USA) – not Democratic or Republican party – will grow or flourish in tomorrow’s world.
Hey, let’s debate with passion for what we believe in; but let’s also not lose sight that we are all citizens under the same flag, that we are all responsible for and to this great land. Let’s gain a better way from having openly pursued a more stable course to witness from rather than close mindedly search for I win you lose at all costs scenario. We all create our challenges and opportunities and they will always be waiting in abundance at our door. It is the attitude and spirit with which we take action to these current issues that will predict the outcome of where we reside tomorrow.
I’ll leave you with two parting thoughts: 1) it is better to witness than to rush to judgment. 2) When you harbor bitterness happiness docks elsewhere. God Bless America!

That’s what the Germans said about Hitler. Give the guy a chance. Let’s see what happens. What could possibly go wrong? All he wants is a piece of this and a piece of that.
Why, with the ‘new’ technology on the horizon, he can turn things around. Now that the government is taking over major industries, things will be done “right.” We’ll have full employment, too. If people would just back off and give him a few years, life will be beautiful. He’ll make this country great again.
Yep, AmLib. Things are really looking better. And it’s getting ‘better’ every day. Kinda makes you want to stand up, click your boots and salute, eh?
How long will it be before America can look forward to adoring crowds screaming out in ecstasy those
thrilling, country-loving words known as Sieg Heil?
It makes me want to cry. How about you?

And don’t forget, he’s buying off the refs, telling the fans he’ll give them free snacks, and making up the rules as the game progresses….

Hopefully, the American economy is resilient enough to rebound somewhat in spite of all the anti-capitalist crap our government is laying on it. Even if it does, however, it won’t be as robust as it could be if the government would just get out of the way.

  • JB

“Racists and bigots”? In typical liberal fashion, you just couldn’t help yourself, could you? Pitiful.

  • DaveH

    American Liberal,
If you’re representative of Liberals, they are indeed hopeless. I heard more intelligent comments from my 13 year old buddies when I was in Junior High.

  • blamesomeoneelse

Most comment that Bush, Clinton, Obama, some president are the ones that hire and fire! Dont you think the economy runs on its own? Yes they can have an effect on it but there is so much more involved. GM took over ten years to go brankrupt it didn’t happen in a month or two. It was not run vey good for many years and created it’s own destiny. They were selling pieces to get cash to continue, but unlike the government they could not print money and went under. The economy always cycles and when tappered with it takes longer to cycle down. As for our government they are all blaming someone else as the problem when the truth is they are all the problem! So what is the cure? Blame Bust or Obama? We need to get the government under control and smaller not larger as it is the fastest growing business in the world right now.

The only solution is revolution. This would immediately erase all our debt because the government which owes the debt no longer exists. This is our only chance to throw out all the radicals and start over.

You and your type are no more than curious wonders like zoo monkeys. Most scoff at your shallow primate utterances? Sure the other guerilla liberals with weak self esteem gather around the “burning Bush” to fling poo, but seriously, most only respond out of disgust when some of your poo gets on them. So run off and pull the lever for another government issued banana. I’m sure you will Rattle the cage when bored.

  • JB

AL, you need to focus more on policy and less on personality. Who cares what a Republican would have done. We need to focus on current policy decisions and judge whether or not they’re right for the country. Talk about driving a bus off the cliff … this spending spree the current President has undertaken is, in my opinion, a recipe for disaster.

  • Patriot1776

Hey Un-American Liberal, The reason none of these so-called “conservatives” can give you an answer to what a “republican” would have done different is because there is NO difference in the two agenda’s other than on social issues. You ALL need to take the founders red pill, and throw out the blue pill you’ve been fed your whole life! The demican’s AND the republicrats are leading us all down an unsustainable path of big government tyranny that will all end in tears if we keep arguing about which self serving political party is better for the Union. We have a Federal constitutional crisis on our hands that will not be solved by voting in one party or the other over and over again with NO REAL results! Read your founding documents, read the debates over them understand for yourself what this Union of States was meant to be and who was meant to hold the power! We can find, and have PROOF of original intent. Unfortunately the “Federal” government has decided it would benefit them to ignore the constitution and define thier own limitations. Which according to most in Washington is apparently none whatsoever! Both parties agree on this for the most part. With the exception of a few, VERY FEW. The reason we argue today about non-solutions is because we are all missing the point of liberty, individual rights, state soverignty, and self government. As the “Federal” government reaches farther and farther outside it’s constitutional boundries, and the Supreme court amends the constitution at will to support the usurpations by the virtually unchecked legislative and executive branches, we are left to argue over over the method upon which our remaining liberty will be confinscated. Wake up and think for yourself. Stop believing the sound bites and talking points. Research the truth about our founding yourselves.
Here’s a good place to start:
The Declaration of Independence(The meat and potatoes, Not just the life and liberty part!)
    The Philadelphia Convention of 1787
    The Virginia ratification debates
    Madison’s journal’s
New Views on the Constitution-John Talor of Caroline

  • American liberal

I agree with your post, I even tried to do as you suggest in your post and it didn’t work… How does a person try to have a rational conversation with people who insist on saying the healtcare bill has death panels , our president wasn’t born in Hawaii and his birth certificates been faked, he’s a Muslim, communist, soocialist , pals around with terrorist… ? president Obama has done some of the Samethings the rightwing hero Ronald Reagan wanted to do ( start treaty) eliminate nuclear weapons and now they say President Obama wants to grant illegals amnasty , which is exactly what Reagan did… So how do you talk with these people?.. I’m listening ..I can’t even get a real answer from any of these people on what conservatives or republicans would have done if McCain or anyother republican had been elected .., these people are only interested in bringing the president down even if the country falls with it.

The government does not create jobs except in government. The private sector, if left alone, would solve the jobless situation. American Liberal, you need to take a good economics class.

  • JeffH

To me, this statement says a lot about the frustrations Americans have with government overspending money that just isn’t there to spend.

“If every dollar spent by government came immediately out of taxpayers’ wallets, politicians would find it impossible to fund their vast pork-barrel spending programs.”

  • DPD

    to all conservative commentators,
I have never benn on this site but after reading these comments it suddenly struck me, this person, American Liberal has very nearly dominated the comments.
Try not to get suckered in by someone like this, do not reply to his/her comments. Don’t even read them. Stay focused, this A.L. has successfully taken over the comments and re-comments and many of you fell right into his/her trap.
Anyway, my advice is to simply avoid those types (I know it is difficult) and to stay on track, perhaps expanding upon the article or sharing personal experiences in your own life as far as how that ‘hopey changy thing is working out for ya.’
Good luck to all, pray hard and God bless our country once again!

  • kate8

Actually, AL serves a purpose here. He shows us exactly the kind of
ignorance and disdain for all things decent we are up against. It’s good to know exactly how the opposition thinks, and AL is a wealth of information.

If he bothered with facts he’d know that there is enough evidence of who Obama is that would convict anyone else in any (but a corrupt) court of law. But, since liberals hate being confused with facts, he
chooses to simply throw vile rhetoric at any patriot with the guts to stand up and demand to know the truth, whatever that is. How anyone, even a liberal, can be okay with someone who was able to get into office (through media contrivance), while having sealed any and all records about himself (first one in history), is beyond all reason.
And all facts that were turned up are damning beyond reasonable doubt.

Yes, these libs expose their true colors everytime they post. Keep it coming, AL.

Unfortunately or fortunately we are “these people” and that where the beauty and challenge of being an American resides. Don’t lose your passion to stay involved and engage in working to a better tomorrow. Believe it or not this country is a Bottoms up country not a Tierney Sovereignity and there are a lot of plums in both the conservative and liberal camps – that’s why we should look at each other as Americans first and our ideology should come second in the effort to make this a better land. We the People carry on the torch of Freedom, it isn’t passed down by our leaders. Our leaders our elected to serve us (not serve above us) and when we they all start to look at themselves as Citizens rather than officals and begin to relate to the people they’ve been elected to serve we will re-unite with our glorious past and surrender to what once made us a beckon of hope in this world, instead of resorting to blame and division that has only fragmented us over these past 50 years. I believe our elected officials (all of them) need to quit indulging their egos at the expense of this country’s soul. If they really want to lead – they should enter their elected positions with set term limits, contributing to social security, paying for their health insurance through the same plans as the rest of us citizens are afforded, not voting themselves a pay raise, collecting NO pension once leaving office, and most importantly serving for the good of all the people they have been elected to govern. No one said life would be fair and our forefathers knew that what they formed (a United States)wasn’t perfect; but at least they most diverse of men in their time knew how to unite for a common cause and perservered to make lemonade of of lemons from the mother country. Remember, life is too short to hate anyone. God’s speed.

Thought I would share the wikipedia info on revolution, for those that think a revolution can mean only one thing, violence!

    Political and socioeconomic revolutions

A revolution (from the Latin revolutio, “a turn around”) is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Aristotle described two types of political revolution:

1.Complete change from one constitution to another
    2.Modification of an existing constitution.[1]
Revolutions have occurred through human history and vary widely in terms of methods, duration, and motivating ideology. Their results include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions.

Is that what Germans said? Show me, when did they say that. Was it during Aryan supremacy speeches, Jewish conspiracy speeches, maybe just fiction from s c the twenty-first century right winger? Actually the punitive nature of The Treaty of Versailles, the global depression, the propaganda machine blaming the Jews and communists/Marxists for the problems of the country (the use of scapegoats, someone to blame)and the massive government spending on infrastructure and the military that had Germans working made Hitler quite popular. As I have said before, Hitler is a lot closer to the ultra conservatives than to Obama.

Here is one that Hitler said about Fox News:
“All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.”
    Adolf Hitler

And here is one talking about the people of America in 2010 – living in the greatest nation in the history of the world thinking that they should engage in treasonous revolution:

“By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise.”
    Adolf Hitler

Here is Hitler’s comment on Obama’s Healthcare, hey he agrees with you libertarian teabaggers – what a surprise.

“Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice”

AGAIN – you speak nonsense. The item Obama provided was NOT the legal version of a real Hawaiian Birth Certificate. It is the equivalent of a State giving public notice they concede a person is supposedly found to be born there.

HOWEVER – the real truth is: Obama has ordered the Governor of Hawaii to “seal” his birth records until further notice.

    Try again.

  • Joel Johnston

    Big pile of monkey poo..

  • JC

First of all I have never, not once in my life watched an episode of Beck or Limbaugh. Secondly whether the election process worked or not is irrelevant. His Hopiness is an African.
Why don’t we just have Putin run the country…he’s just as American as Changey Boy.

  • kate8

Raggs, did you catch my post further up the thread: Special army unit ready to be deployed on American soil just before Nov elections?

Every patriot needs to check this out. Scary.

  • kate8

This time, though, Raggs, he is expecting the people to revolt.

I suspect it is because these slimy communist democrats are going to pull something that will so outrage the people that they will be pushed to take to the streets. As I have said, they have worked too hard to gain power to allow a nuisance election to get in their way.

They have made it crystal clear that they have no regard for the will of the people. They have deemed themselves our masters, and they will stop at nothing now. We have to somehow stay a step ahead of their plans, or we’ll fall right into their trap. Again.

Fiat Currency and Central Banking don’t work and it’s all coming to a head. No surprise there, so….what point were you trying to make?

You mean Hillary , Bill and president Obama had a threesome?.. Wow… I’m gonna have to send this page around the Internet … Nobody would believe me if I told them about this conversation… Youre gonna be rightwing Internet stars…

Don’t read Am Libs though…it has poop on it from his cage.

DaveH, have you seen the Crash the Tea Party website yet? No surprises there either. http://crashtheteaparty.org/.

Having just gone there, it either is no longer up, although there is a “gray page” or they are “under re-construction”.

In this website they label people who attend, and are part of the tea party movement as “a coalition of conservatives, anti-Semites, fascists, libertarians, racists, constitutionalists, militia men, gun freaks, homophobes, Ron Paul supporters, Alex Jones conspiracy types and American flag wavers.”

  • Norm

    DaveH
What do you expect from newsmax. I watch most of the networks and have seen plenty of coverage. Frankly, most of it gave more credit than was deserved.

  • Joel Johnston

Whew, Am Lib has been busy today. Must have a welfare check to pay the bills. Me, I just got back from installing a cover on basement egress window and found all this monkey crap from Am Lib. Had to spend some time behind the shovel. Keep up the good conversation people and don’t let the morons get to you. God Bless America.

vince foster was hillary’s attorney and was mixed up in some of the clintons skulduggery. he apparently was getting un-nerved, as the rumors had it and he ended up murdered. they couldn’t get enough evidence to hang hillary and the special prosecutor (wimp) let her slide. it sure looked like she was the one, but, the clintons and their staff were experts in covering tracks.
we now have a similar attitude in the wh. they are very good at covering up and they have complete control with most of the media in stride.

  • http://personalliberty.com RChick

    Wow:

New to the blogging thing. I can’t believe where the conversation went while I was writing my way-too-long blog!

The local newspaper had an announcement a couple of days after his birthday, so I think it would be pretty hard to manufacture that.

Who cares if BO was born in the US or not. Either way, he’s president and that issue is just a red herring! Don’t fall for it.

I do agree with one blogger when they say that if he was born in the US, why doesn’t the prez just put this issue to rest by presenting the document. He won’t because if you’re chasing this issue, you won’t pay attention to what’s being done, which will make your blood boil.

  • chuck b

    rchick

if you are trying to educate amer lib on facts, he is not capable of thinking along those lines, so just insult him as much as possible without using bad language

  • http://personalliberty.com RChick

thanks for the tip, Chuck B. Made me laugh.

  • Pete

Joel sure does like monkey poo. This is the kind of response you get from people that don’t have the thought process to hold a real conversation.

  • JC

    And pounding bananas ;)

  • Pete

You can’t use honest and politician in the same sentence.

  • JeffH

kate8, I’m dissapointed that you allow and waste your valuable time going tit-for-tat with these liberal disurbers. None of us should play there game, it’s futile. Best to make a point and ignore their cat and mouse games. Their goal is to lie and distort. That’s all it is.

“The job then is getting the people to move, to act, to participate; in short, to develop and harness the necessary power to effectively conflict with the prevailing patterns and change them. When those prominent in the status quo turn and label you an ‘agitator’ they are completely correct, for that is, in one word, your function—to agitate to the point of conflict.”

  • kate8

Thanks, RChick. Good post. You are right – the best answer is to get government out of it altogether. Let the free market right itself.
Of course, AL the communist won’t like that idea. He wants cradle-to-grave nanny care, a la Europe.

And thank you, chuck. There were so many who crossed Bill and Hillary and paid dearly. Hard to remember all the details. Those two left a wake of destruction as they carried out the WH furniture.

I have no use for most Republicans, either, although too often they
get smeared unjustly by the left. Libs always try to justify the behavior on their side by pointing fingers at the right. Wrong is wrong, treason is treason. The left is just unapologetic about it.

Amazing the folks the left worships.

  • JeffH

    Good point!

  • kate8

JeffH – of course you are right. And I do know better. It’s just that AL is so easy…..

I’ve been down with the flu, and it’s cheap entertainment.

  • kate8

RChick, I’m disappointed that you said “Who cares if BO was born in the US or not”. We should ALL care very much! Because if we don’t, then our Constitution is no longer valid and we might as well give in to the forces at play…

It was written that way so we would never have anyone with divided loyalties. It’s been bad enough with the crop we’ve had going for a long time now, with their NWO agenda. Now we have one who’s a globalist AND a foreigner, and that can mean nothing good for us.

Our leaders are sworn to uphold the Constitution. It does not bode well that we have someone who violated the Constitution going into office. You might want to rethink your stance on that.

  • Sally S.

    HI Jeffy!

  • JeffH

kate8, we all do it at times. Hope you are feeling better and yes it is cheap entertainment. I am so encouraged by what I read on here and Bob & Co are really hitting the right subjects hard. We are all gaining knowledge and understanding more about our government, politics and the dirty little core of leftist liberal supporters that litter this site with their distortions, lies and vitriol. Their hate and racism amazes me to this day.
    Get well soon!

  • JeffH

If he runs for a second term, which I doubt will happen, he will have to prove his natural born citizenship again.

  • JeffH

    Hi Sally

  • kate8

    So true, Raggs.

But BO should be forced to prove himself. With all the evidence, I doubt he can. And no one in government is on our side.

If he is illegitimate, and I’m sure he is, then none of the horrendous documents he’s signed will stand. Forcing this issue is
of paramount importance, and we can’t back down on it. If we do, then all is lost, because it will prove that the people no longer matter.

That becomes more evident every day.

  • Raggs

    Yuo… A bit of info…
    Look up on you tube…
    Michelle obama:Barracks home country
I think thats the one… if not I can post the link..

  • Raggs

    One other thing kate…
As far as I’m concerned he has proven himself…
His actions and his company prove who he is and what he stands for..
Simply put he is a Communist pig!

  • kate8

Thanks, Raggs. I have heard this, and many others. WND has had continuous updates on this issue.

I agree. He has proven himself, to be communist/corporatist media manfactured puppet. He reads a teleprompter well, and that’s about all. Off the cuff, he is as big a buffoon as Biden.

The fact that he is being covered for by both sides of the aisle says it all. While lefty’s and righty’s are bickering, the elites at the top are laughing at us and furthering the same agenda.

In every civilization, there is always extreme polarity right before it falls. We are there. It is by design. We need to be vigilant about protecting movements like TeaParty from infiltration by mainstream plants, and have a “your either with us or against us” determination.

There are many predictions for the next few years, and who knows what will happen. All we can do is stay true to our values no matter what.
This will soon separate the freemen from the slaves, whether in the here or the hereafter.

  • DaveH

Less Federal Governing with more adhered to checks and balances, separation of powers within the three branches. And more state sovereignty to enact the morays and folkways of the communities they govern. Bottom line, more unity with diversity, not uniformity with one source of power. God Bless America!

Hi Kate8 — I posted this on another line, but I’ll repeat it here: I pulled up that link. 80,000 troops ready for deployment a month before the November elections is SCARY, and the timing is suspicious. As a former infantryman, I can tell you this: If ORDERED to fire, those troops will fire — or face court-martial for insubordination. AS I said, scary!

  • Raggs

I’m going to save the link and view it at a later time….
But I’m not at all surprized that obama and his bad company would take actions against the public in this country… All of my belief in the status of this country and the world in general is based upon the bible.. everything we are currently seeing today is explained load and clear… Anyway getting back to your link… he has stated he wanted a “civil military” as strong and as funded as the armed forces… I find this at no surprize either… The other thing is he will use any excuse such as a “swine flu” outbreak to achieve his goal.

    His goal…. domination!
achieved through suttle “good-4-u” agenda’s like health-care reform.

He learned well from his master, but he can’t fool me!!!!!

  • Raggs

typo correction….Loud in place of load….

What a bizarre world view. Yikes.

  • Raggs

I read the link… sorry it took me so long…LOL..
As with the masters of Rome, thier master was that of greed and power over thier own people… They know what they are doing and they know we don’t like it… They are trying not to leave us a choice in the matter which would explain the amnesty for illegals maybe thier only way to continue the hold on us… And that pretty much sums it up A HOLD on us… Via threats, intimidation or the use of a race card… Any tatic at thier desposal to make the average citizen of this nation look like a scumbagger…. Now I realize why Christ was so pissed.

My memory lane trip give me insight as to why Obama hates this country!

  • denniso

Isn’t it great…8 yrs of Bush,6 yrs of the Repub congress, one totally unnecessary war unfinished, another war unfinished after 7 yrs,a trillion $ drug benefit plan,a trillion $ tax cut for the wealthiest among us, an economic collapse in Bush’s last yr…and all the rightwing can do is demonize Obama and blame him for what developed from 2001 until 2009. I think it’s pretty obvious that the hate and blame is the result of the rightwing not wanting to admit that their guy and party screwed everything up so badly…so they divert the anger and attention to the man elected to clean up the mess.
Is Obama perfect? No…is he trying hard to fix things and salvage our economy? Yes.
Be honest rightwingers, you are livid that georgie made such a mess but you can’t bring yourselves to blame him because you are party loyalists.

  • JeffH

dennisso…control yourself. Naw, keep the rant chant going. I don’t know what I said to set you off like that. I didn’t even mention Obama, liberal, Marxist/Socialist or Democrat once.

  • Anthony

    Denniso-
It wasn’t 6 years of republican Control in Congress during the Bush Years.

For the first two years in Office, he had Tommy Daschle to deal with.
For the last two years in Office he had Harry Reid to deal with.

Get your facts straight. And, Berberoni is more correct than you have the guts or intelligence to see. Specifically, you are just repeating whatever Keith Olbermann rants about on NBC.

If a tax cut allows a small or medium size business to hire THIRTY (30) more employees, then that is a great thing. It’s NOT a bad thing.

Clinton had to deal with a Republican Congress for his middle four years – and the Contract with America did get Businesses back on track, after the entire Nation started to hunker down with ol’ Slick Willy’s “retro”active tax hike. One day you have your taxes paid, then Bill Clinton comes along the next day and you owe BACK TAXES…. Your logic has holes all over it.

The bottom line – is that the Central Bank is who controls the money supply – not Congress. That part is the whole act. If they did it any other way, we would be the Soviet Union, for real.

You give back control of the money to Congress, as stated in the Consitution, we will work our way out of debt and become the most prosperous Nation there ever was. As long as we don’t have to pay interest on our own money, we can pay off our own debts. We then end up with a surplus which can be used to take care of the needy, with the People’s permission. Not “forced” as we are now. Any discussion to the opposite is sophistry.

The American Tea Party is a relatively new party. They don’t have a viable candidate; as of yet. Basically; their Americans from ALL walks of life; who are deeply concerned about the direction this country is taking as a society and nation. I truly think if you could bring back our founding fathers; they would be completely smeared as racists; right wing extremists; and worse in todays convoluted political climate.

Gee, was that was on taxpayers dollars or did you leach off of some private endowment funds? Socialist?

JLC. first of all you don’t accept articles written on MY FOX ORLANDO, by Tattoo Gypsy. He is the one stating 80,000 troops, meanwhile it is 4700 according to http://www.cnn.com/2008/us/10/03/army.unit
The total of 4700 was confirmed by the military. This is to try and keep some military employed after they return from the war. The first hint that the 80K figure was wrong is common sense. Check out the facts before you jump in with both feet. LMAO using Tattoo Gypsy’s information as facts. The nut has a reputation throughout the internet. Get a gripe and learn to research.

kate8, a close friend has been given a very revealing DVD from a lady soliciting donations for disabled veterans. It is about 3 hours long and from what he tells me, we can’t even begin to fathom how long and who is involved in the transformations we and the world have been experiencing. He did mention the Rothschild name, but there is so much more to it. All about the One World ideology and the people behind it. I’m looking forward to watch it and will get back with whatever I can on it, where it came from and if it is available.

AIG shiped billions in bailout abroad. In all, AIG disclosed payments of $105.3 billion between September and December 2008. And some of the biggest recipients were European banks. Societe Generale, based in France, was the top foreign recipient at $11.9 billion, Deutsche Bank of Germany got $11.8 billion and Barclays, based in England, was paid $8.5 billion.

Here in the U.S., Goldman Sachs received $12.9 billion. Edward Liddy, the government-installed CEO of AIG, sat on the board of directors of Goldman Sachs until he joined AIG. He took the position while President George W. Bush’s Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson — who until joining the administration had served as Goldman’s chairman and CEO — arranged the insurance company’s initial government bailout.

Franklin Raines was in charge of FANNIE and FREDDIE during the early Bush years. He walked away with over $120 million in bonuses, and has never had to give any of it back. Tommy Daschle was in charge of Congress during that time. Interesting how the Left never wants “their” people to give back the bonuses they receive. Ol’ Franky now has an $8-million Condo in DC. Obama talked about re-distributing the wealth”, yet has to share any of his million dollar book deal monies with anyone in this Country whatsoever. They say, him on the Mrs. have given to charity – I don’t believe it for one minute. If it happened in their name, it was someone else, like the Saudi’s, who certainly paid for his Harvard Education, that most likely did so.

Franklin Raines was in charge of FANNIE and FREDDIE during the early Bush years (200-2004, I believe). He walked away with over $120 million in bonuses (truth), and has never been required to give any of it back.
Tommy Daschle was in charge of Congress during GW’s first two years as POTUS. Interesting how the Left never wants “their” people to give back the bonuses they receive.
Franklin Raines now has an $8-million Condo in DC. Obama talks about “re-distributing the wealth”, but has yet to share any of his own million dollar book deal monies with anyone in this Country.
They say, Barry and the Mrs. give to charity, and they may – but I don’t believe it for one minute – I think it’s a ruse. If such a charitable gift happened in their name, it was someone else, like the Saudi’s, that did it, just as it was the Saudi’s who paid for his Harvard Education. Barry never paid a dime for his own Education – that’s been part of the plan all along. Every Community Organizer ever put into a position of power by the Ultra-Elite has had their ticket paid for by someone else – whether that be Hamilton, Hitler, Mao, Saddam …. seriously, the List is endless, it seems. Even the Bolshevicks in the early 1900′s were funded by the Rothschilds against the Tzars who consistently refused the invitation to a Central Bank Authority. It just happened to take almost 100 years to gain that foothold after the 1st attempt was met with complete refusal.
