The White House Versus Some World War II Vets

Government Shutdown Closes Locations on the National Mall in Washington

We’re finding out just how petty the Administration of President Barack Obama can be when it comes to making the government shutdown as painful as possible for as many people as possible. Just as we predicted, the answer is very petty indeed.

It seems the White House lackeys made a serious mistake, however, when they tried to keep some World War II veterans from visiting a memorial in their honor. Have you ever been to the National World War II Memorial? It’s an open plaza on the National Mall in Washington. And like most other monuments in the open air, it’s available to the public 24 hours a day. Or at least it used to be. Now, someone in the Obama Administration has decided to make it off limits.

The whole incredible saga began on Tuesday morning, when three busloads of World War II veterans showed up at the site. The trip had been arranged by Honor Flight Network, a wonderful charity that brings World War II vets to Washington to see the monument that was erected in their honor.

But when 91 veterans (ranging in age from 84 to 99) got off their bus, they found that barricades had been erected around the monument. Signs were posted that declared: “Because of the Federal Government SHUTDOWN, All National Parks Are CLOSED.”

In other words, someone ordered the National Park Service to work harder and spend more money to shut the memorial than it would have taken to simply leave it open. In the past, it was mostly unattended, but not now.

The barriers didn’t stop the veterans or the Congressmen who were there to welcome them. Representative Steve Palazzo (R-Miss.), who helped push aside the barricades, later said, “These men and women didn’t cower to the Japanese and Germans. I don’t think they’re about to let a few National Park Police stand in their way.”

The group was led into the memorial by a man playing bagpipes. A crowd of people who witnessed the event burst into applause.

The park police didn’t try to stop the veterans — at least not that time. One officer, who said he had to remain anonymous, told The Washington Post, “I’m not going to enforce the ‘no stopping or standing’ sign for a group of World War II veterans. I’m a veteran myself.”

The next day, park workers were ordered to erect additional fencing and station more patrolmen around the memorial. And guess what? Another group of elderly veterans moved the barricades and entered the memorial anyway.

There’s a photograph of one of them holding up a piece of the tape park police had placed around the barricades. The stern warning on the black and yellow tape, “POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS,” didn’t stop these vets from paying tribute to their fallen brothers, who paid the ultimate price to defeat the armies of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany.

That time, the veterans were applauded by a group of demonstrators waving flags and holding up signs supporting them. My favorite was the one that referenced Ronald Reagan’s demand when he stood next to the Berlin Wall three decades ago:

Protersters Rally outside of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Honor Flight visits to Washington are arranged many months ahead of time. And they’re expensive, costing an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 per group. Since Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio was scheduled to bring a group of World War II veterans to Washington next week, Lee Armstrong, the group’s president, called the National Park Service to ask about visiting the memorial. He was told that anyone crossing the barricades could face arrest.

Armstrong was dumbfounded. “I said, are you kidding me? You’re going to arrest a 90/91-year-old veteran from seeing his memorial? If it wasn’t for them, it wouldn’t be there.” The park service rep replied, “That’s correct, sir.”

So you see what happens when the White House decides to play hard ball. It’s probably going to get worse, the longer this contrived crisis continues. This is the first government shutdown in 17 years. The last one, back in 1995-1996, occurred when Bill Clinton was President and Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House. It was the longest government shutdown this country had seen until then, lasting 21 days. I don’t think this one will last as long, but so far neither side is willing to blink.

In fact, they’re barely willing to talk. Obama did ask Congressional leaders to meet with him in the White House two days ago. According to reports, he made it clear there wouldn’t be any negotiations until the Republicans agreed to fund the government without any conditions. Oh, yeah, and they’ve also got to agree to raise the debt limit, again without conditions. Only after doing that will the Democrats agree to negotiate.

For “negotiate,” read “total Republican capitulation.”

Hey, that’s pretty much what the Democrats got back in 1996. Why should they expect anything different this time? After all, they control the Senate and the White House. And a compliant media is only too willing to echo Obama’s rhetoric, as he continues to refer to what’s happening as “the Republican shutdown.” Even TIME magazine’s Mark Halperin acknowledged that the Democrats’ strategy depends on the mainstream media blaming Republicans for the government shutdown.

Lost in all of the partisan rhetoric is the fact that the Republicans in the House have passed five resolutions to fund the government, and the Democrats in the Senate have rejected them all.

So what happens now? It looks like our dysfunctional government will continue to play chicken, at least for a while. Here’s how RedState editor Erick Erickson puts it:

Democrats keep talking about our refusal to compromise. They don’t realize our compromise is defunding Obamacare. We actually want to repeal it.

This is it. Our endgame is to leave the whole thing shut down until the President defunds Obamacare. And if he does not defund Obamacare, we leave the whole thing shut down.

So who’s going to blink first? Sad to say, I’m afraid it will once again be the Republicans. But maybe, just maybe, that will make a lot more Americans angry enough to bust some barricades themselves.

This shutdown is showing just how “non-essential” a lot of government really is. Especially if you’re a 91-year-old veteran trying to visit a memorial honoring your fallen comrades.

Will we actually learn anything from this latest confrontation? I’m not very optimistic. But what do you think?

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

First I think it is extremely disrespectful and just plain stupid to close our nations national parks and even more so to try and prevent Veterans from visiting a memorial commemorating them.

That said if we are going to play the blame game I am sorry to tell you this Mr. Wood but this Government shutdown is the Republicans fault. They are the bad guys in this situation and I will tell you why. In 2009 the Affordable Healthcare Act aka Obamacare first took shape. There was months of discussion and debate and Congressional mudslinging and fear mongering and parliamentary tricks on both sides. Basically the bill that would become Obamacare went through the labyrinth that is the legislative process. The one so eloquently described by the Schoolhouse of Rock. Towards the end of this process Obama offered to speak with the leaders of the Congressional Republicans. They responded by calling it a Presidential trap and refusing to come. Eventually Obama was able to show them that he actually wanted to hear their ideas and they sat down and gave them. In the end the bill which many republicans disagreed with passed and the President signed into law. As the schoolhouse video would say at last that bill became a law. But it wasn’t done yet. First it was taken to the supreme court and voted on. In the end the highest court in the land responsible for deciding such matters declared Obamacare and its individual mandate constitutional. The final hurdle was the 2012 presidential election, seen by many as a referendum on the law itself. And in the end Obama pulled out a victory. And so after nearly 4 years. A congressional passing. A Presidential signing. A Supreme Court decision declaring it constitutional. And a Presidential election. After all this vetting the new law was ready for implementation having survived our Republican system and its vetting process for laws. But then just as the time came to implement the law the Republicans brought everything to a grinding halt. Ignoring the passage by Congress and its signing by the President. Ignoring the Supreme Courts and the Peoples Decision. Ignoring the results of the system which the Republicans so often celebrate as the greatest in the world. Ignoring all this the Republicans drew a line in the sand and declared that they would rather have the government shut down than accept the implementation of a law which had already passed and been accepted by the people and the courts. That brings us to today. Here’s the situation. The game is over and the Democrats and President Obama won. And the Republicans are refusing to accept that they lost. The bill has become a law and has gone through our countries system. The law is now to take effect. Its over. The time for debating and arguing is over. The time for compromising and discussing is over. The time for voting on this law is over. It has gotten enough votes and has been passed. Unfortunately the Republicans have decided to be stubborn about this even though its already to late. What I am saying is not a liberal diatribe. Nor is it Pro Democrat. This has nothing to do with personal politics. Its what has happened and what is happening. Democrats and Republicans are all childish I agree. But in this case the Democrats are just doing what mom and dad(The Supreme Court, President and American People) have told them. The Republicans are screaming and throwing a temper tantrum. If you want to stop the shutdown tell the Republicans to take their losses with maturity and realize that in a Republic sometimes laws that you disagree with get passed. And in this case the law has already passed. Its time to grow up and just deal with it. And remember that they can always try and reform or repeal it later. If its a fifth as bad as they claim it is then I am sure we will all realize it soon enough.

You seem to have conveniently omitted one very important fact concerning oBOMBacare. If this is a legitimate and all encompassing law, why is Congress, its aides, Muslims, Labor Unions, certain Big Businesses and an assortment of other groups EXEMPT from falling under the mandate of it???

Oh yes, oBOMBa’s crew wrote the LAW for the COMMON people to be under it but not his family or select friends.

Ron Reagan once quipped that he was a recovering Democrat….and I’ll admit that I’m a recovering
Republican (although I became one because of Goldwater…) but I found that patriotism and conservatism know no parties….and we’d better
welcome the Liberatarian/Teaparty (not the one the GOP co-opted) , too.We all make mistakes …but we all don’t learn from them and try to correct them.

        • Average_Joe56

Admitting your failures is the first step to recovery.
Bravo, for taking that that first crucial step.

So what are you expecting us to say? ‘Poor little her, she just made a mistake’.You helped foist O on the nation and no you did not think. It was not matter of just buying the wrong size of a shirt.

          • Average_Joe56

At least gayle is doing something that no other liberal on this site has done in quite a while…admitting that she made a mistake. That in itself is cause for a celebration. It is a victory…every time another person wakes up from the slumber. Don’t be so hard on her…we don’t want to drive her back under that cloud of darkness from which she has emerged. Let’s instead help to enlighten her to the rest of the truth.

          • Nadzieja Batki

I’ll wait to see how long her “conversion” lasts.

          • Nadzieja Batki

Average_Joe56, when a Republican crosses over/”converts” to Democrat, the Democrats can “smell” one of their own kind of wolf/ human predator in spite of wearing a sheep’s clothing while he was with the Republicans. If a Democrat crosses/”converts” over to the Republican side the Republicans do not check if he is not indeed a wolf/human predator and their sense of smell is not there and they take him to be a Republican to their detriment.

          • Karolyn

Wow! You must have had a really tough life to be so cynical!

          • Bob666

            Yo Karolyn,
Nads is our little ray of sunshine!

          • Nadzieja Batki

Average_Joe56, when a Republican crosses over/”converts” to being a Democrat they don’t check because they can “smell” that he is a wolf/human predator and one of their own even if he is wearing a sheepskin. When a Democrat supposedly crosses over/converts to being a Republican, they don’t check and they can’t smell whether he is actually a wolf/human predator and wearing a sheepskin.

          • Average_Joe56

            Nadaieja,
I grew up in a Democrat state, in a 100% Democrat family. I was a Democrat, through and through…because that was how I was raised. I left the state and my family behind. I grew up, and sometime in my twenties, I woke up and started questioning my belief system. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was wrong headed and needed to change my views based on what I knew to be fact rather than what I had been told. I would not have arrived at this point in my life without support from friends and like minded individuals throughout my learning experience. I am now openly Libertarian and considered to be the White (black) sheep of the family. Yay me!
The key is…if we want to keep them…they need to be nurtured…not scorned. Give them the benefit of the doubt…until they prove otherwise.

      • Jeremy Leochner

Doudle D Edd. Congress already has government provided healthcare. And Muslims are not exempt. As for Labor Unions and certain big business I am sure Obama and his people cut a deal with their supporters to help them through it. The law does help the common people by preventing health insurance companies from denying coverage based on pre existing conditions. I would like to see a Republican proposal for dealing with that issue.

    • john Carney

Good morning sir, you write well and provided your opinion very nicely. I respect your view on this matter. However I respectfully disagree with some of your points. Even though it passed and was signed into law and ruled constitutional, nobody still knew what was in it. I personally don’t know what’s in it and rely strictly on numerous mainstream news media and independent news sources. I really don’t believe any of them as the media is owned by hr Obama administration Example: there was no mainstream coverage of the bikers in D.C. Why? All I read on the right sided media is that th left is at fault and they get pretty nasty name calling etc. All I read on the Left is the same stuff toward the right. Quite frankly I don’t know who to believe. But then I speak with people who are adversely affected by ACA, and others who are getting a good deal. Here’s my 2 cents. Get everything running again, get the aca plan back on the table, take out all the non-medical service agenda. Take out all the exceptions/extensions everyone uses it even the 1st family. And the reintroduce it as a real socialized medical package for those who NEED or want it. The Government is taking away more rights and choices from us at an alarming rate. You stated that the Republicans would not accept that this is law after all the steps it went through. The Democrats do exactly the same thing on other issues in the past. DOMA for one people voted it was passed, and the ones who lost wouldn’t let it go until it was changed in their favor. By reading both parties sights and watching our elected officials acting like 5th graders ( no insult intender for the 5th graders or the officials) not name calling don’t know how else to describe them. This was once a great Nation respected and feared by the world. We were a leader in industry and technology. It just doesn’t seem that way anymore. Thanks for listening.

      • Jeremy Leochner

Thanks for your thoughtful response John. As to the act itself I know only a little of how its implemented. I also have to rely on the mainstream media. On that issue I disagree that it is owned by the Obama administration. I believe MSNBC has an undeniable liberal agenda and is certainly in Obama’s camp. But from everything I have seen of Fox News I know it can’t be for Obama. As for the rest of the media I am convinced they are to stupid to actually pick a side. CNN for example just wants to know what we viewers think they should do. And I have always felt right and left are equally filled with hatred and vitriol towards each other. As for your idea on health care I agree. I think a more socialized package would work much better than Obama care. But I would point out that contains the word Socialized. And in my experience Republicans and Tea Parties scream bloody murder at the mere mention of the word socialized medicine.

Indeed the Democrats have had their own temper tantrums in the past. I will point out that personally I see DOMA as being more immoral than the Affordable Care Act. But it would be hypocritical to condemn the Republicans and not the Democrats. Thank you for listening to me and engaging in a discussion.

        • john Carney

          Good Morning Jeremy,
Bad choice of words on my part that the media is owned. I believe or am convinced that all of them Fox,CNN ETC. Are censored by someone, otherwise we would see things like soldiers helping the locals and humane acts in the war zones that get posted on the web but not on the news. And it is not party specific. I wasn’t saying doma was moral or not just using that as an example cause it was fresh. I believe all of us are entitled to our opinions and convictions good or bad as perceived by someone else as long as they are not harmful or criminal in nature. And, we as humans should be able to talk with one another and agree or disagree without adversity of ant kind. Our leaders as a whole have set bad examples of that for a long time not just the current administration. Also I did not have a better word to fit for socialized, maybe universal would fit. I just think we as a nation can get something going so that if you or I and anyone else should be able to pick the coverage they want and pay for what they can afford, and the folks that cannot afford ins should be able to receive medical care anyway, but to be told you will have this or that and be fined if you don’t I have an issue with that. I do not have the answers either but am willing to negotiate with people to come up with something. Don’t know your age I’m mid 50’s I remember a time when campaign’s for example was “vote for—he is good for etc” now I’ll I see is mudslinging against opponents. We used to leave doors unlocked and never a theft or vandalism, no one painted or drew on others property, and there were not government regulations for every aspect of our lives. Hope I’m not rambling, I enjoy talking with people no matter what walk of life they are from. Have a great day and thanks for the conversation, lets just pray or wish that they come to some agreement soon. John

          • Nadzieja Batki

Are you giving a sermon to some Liberal Denomination and practicing it on this site? So much pious BS and saying absolutely nothing. Jeremy Loechner talking to himself with the voice of John Carney.

          • john Carney

            Whats UR point? Batki

          • Karolyn

Why do you have a problem with civil discourse?

          • Jeremy Leochner

Its okay. The news networks are controlled by their corporate sponsors who are more concerned with being provocative and getting ratings than they are with actually reporting the news.

I wasn’t trying to attack you on DOMA. It is a good example of Democrats refusing to budge.

I appreciate your ideals. Believe me I agree with you on Universal healthcare. I just know its a tough sell. Cause it seems like every time someone suggests universal or single payer healthcare suddenly everyone cries SOCIALISM and swears we are turning into the Soviet Union or worse Canada.

I am in my early 20’s Paul. I wish we could go back to those days. I wish politicians could campaign honestly and not mud sling. If it makes you feel any better I live in a small town where we can still keep our doors unlocked and not worry about vandalism.

Your not rambling. Thanks for the talk. Hope you have a great day to. I will definitely pray with you for that. Jeremy

    • Paul

Jeremy, please explain to me why this government is exempted from many parts of this law if it is so good and we are not? What about the large corporations that received exemptions? You know, the wealthy 1% they hate so much. What about the same government that passed this law and changed what they did not like for themselves without the due process? Why can’t we the people have the same rights and exemptions as this government? If we tried to change ANY of our laws without the due process, we’d be in jail! Is it OK if they do it? Wake up, buddy!
Look, government in general are corrupt and breed corruption. Historically, that is their main job! It is the duty of all citizens to stand together and protect our home and our nation from government. The day we serve them and they not serve us, it is the end of any free nation. Guess what? We are there once again, as has happened throughout the history of our world. Don’t be folled by them and stand with our people and our Constitution.

      • Jeremy Leochner

As to your first question Paul. The government is exempt because they already have government provided free healthcare and they are not about to change that. As to your second I think Obama was trying to make a deal with the devil so to speak. He wanted to keep the large corporations on side and not reject the government getting involved in healthcare. I am not sure how the changed the law without due process Paul. Presidents can add signing statements to laws and in certain ways change them without a debate. I am not saying its right. But it is legal. I would point out Paul that we the people are not the government. There are a large number of things government does that we the people do not do and therefore are not allowed to do. I do agree there is plenty of corruption in government. And I agree politicians get away with countless things that would land any normal person in jail. On that we agree. And we do need to get people more involved in holding government accountable.

However I disagree with you about the inherent nature of government Paul. Our Declaration of Independence states “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men”. My belief is governments are intended to protect and serve the common good of the people. That is their main job. I hold no doubts that government can be corrupted by the people that make it up. But that does not mean the government itself is inherently corrupt. If there is a corrupt senator you need to get him out. But that does not mean the position of senator is an inherently corrupt one. What matters is who is filling the position. I stand by our people and constitution. But I also stand by our government and our Republican system.

    • Vigilant

“A congressional passing. A Presidential signing. A Supreme Court decision declaring it constitutional. And a Presidential election.”

Read: Fugitive Slave Act, Dred Scott, Tariff of Abominations, Missouri Compromise, Alien & Sedition Act, Prohibition, Minor v. Happersett, etc., etc., etc.

The passing into law alone does not make the act sacrosanct. And this nation does not have the luxury of time to “see how it pans out.”

Each tick of the clock brings us closer to the fruition of possibly the most economically disastrous law ever passed by any administration & Congress. It’s an economy killer.

“If its a fifth as bad as they claim it is then I am sure we will all realize it soon enough.” The American people have realized it from the start. The consistent results from polls from 2010 forward have clearly indicated that the American people don’t want it, period. To their credit, not one Republican in either house voted for it.

And if that presidential election in 2012 were based STRICTLY on a litmus test for Obamacare, he would not be sitting in the office as we speak. To intimate that the election results were an approval of Obamacare is to badly misrepresent the truth. The argument carries no weight.

      • Jeremy Leochner

Vigilant I never said the law was sacrosanct. I actually have a few problems with Obamacare. However I hardly think it compares to the Fugitive Slave Act or the Dred Scott Decision or the Alien and Sedition Act.

Vigilant the law has not taken affect yet. How do you know its an economy killer. And if the individual mandate is so bad why did the Republicans fight for it so passionately in the 1990s.

With respect Vigilant I don’t know if we can base our policy decisions on polls. If we did there would be universal background checks on all gun purchases since polls show a vast majority of Americans want them.

I was not saying that the election was based strictly on a litmus test for Obamacare. But I can’t forget all the times I was told by Republican attack ads that a reelected Obama would mean Obamacare would pass. I simply felt that the election was yet another hurtle that the law had to pass through and that in the end it passed.

        • TheOriginalDaveH

Jeremy (aka Flashman aka rbrooks) asks — “Vigilant the law has not taken affect yet. How do you know its an economy killer?”.
Answer: Because Vigilant has some intelligence. He doesn’t have to wait for the train to run him over before he knows it will be fatal.
How could it possibly be cheaper and more beneficial to add tens of thousands of Government Employees, with protected jobs and unanswerable to the Healthcare customers, who will then meddle in your Healthcare decisions?
For those people who have bought into the Propaganda that Healthcare has become expensive due to the absence of Government:
          http://mises.org/daily/5066
          http://mises.org/daily/3793

          • Jeremy Leochner

So Dave Vigilant can see into the future and know it will devastate the economy. How exactly will it? This law involves people having to buy health insurance from health insurance companies. Sounds like a
windfall for the health insurance industry to me.

Because those government employees can be voted out. Under our present system we have tens of thousands of corporate employees with protected jobs
unanswerable to the healthcare customers meddling in our health care decisions. Actually if you have a “pre existing condition” they can prevent you from even making the decisions.

          • TheOriginalDaveH

Jeremy aka Flashman, it’s difficult for me to respond to a person I know to be a multi-personality Shill. It’s kind of like conversing with Hannibal Lector.

Jeremy aka Flashman says — “Sounds like a windfall for the health insurance industry to me”.
No doubt. At least until Obama succeeds in taking us into total Socialism or Fascism. Of course companies like more customers, especially ones who have no choice but to buy their products. That (Crony Capitalism) is what both major parties have been all about for the last 100+ years.
If you are the kind of person (like rapists, like slavers) who likes to Force other people to do things they don’t want, then you will love Obamacare.

Jeremy aka Flashman says — “Because those government employees can be voted out”.
Are you joking, just ignorant, or trying to mislead people who are? Whoopee, we get to wait 2, 4, or 6 years to vote out the Politicians who hired the Bureaucrats, and we get to vote in a Politician who has been hand picked by the Establishment, who may, or my not (most likely), fire the Bureaucrat who could give a shot less about whether his customers are happy or not.
You may not be joking, Jeremy aka Flashman, but you are a joke to anybody with half-a-brain.

          • Jeremy Leochner

A few problems Dave. The first is I am not a multi personality shill. And the second is Hannibal Lector is a name that was used on me in middle and high school.

Obama is not trying to take us to either Socialism or Fascism. And even if he was he is not going to do it through insurance reform. I actually agree with you about crony capitalism. As a matter of fact I have several problems with Obamacare including the individual mandate. I believe a single payer system would be better. But every time anyone suggests that everyone cries SOCIALISM. So I am willing to settle for Obamacare which at least helps. And by the way Dave. The thing that insurance companies are being “forced” to do is provide healthcare coverage regardless of so called “pre existing conditions”. And the way Obamacare intends to “Force other people to do things they don’t want” is to require people to buy health insurance in case they get sick. What could be more tyrannical and cruel than requiring people to be taken care of when they get sick.

Personally Dave I would prefer a “Politician who has been hand picked by the Establishment, who may, or my not (most likely), fire the Bureaucrat who could give a shot less about whether his customers are happy or not.” who we have to “wait 2, 4, or 6 years to vote out” to a corporate bureaucrat who is accountable only to his CEO and stockholders and whose job is perfectly secure as long as he continues to make money for the company. With politicians its possible for we the people to exert influence. However small you may think it is at least its there.

        • Vigilant

We have areas of disagreement, to be sure, but I respect your civil and thoughtful reply.

          • Jeremy Leochner

Thanks Vigilant. I respect yours as well.

  • Harold Olsen

These WWII veterans who chose to violate the Obama regime’s ban on entering the memorial have shown what real heroes are. They did not let a dictator tell them what to do. I cheer and applaud them for their actions. Obama’s at fault for this government shutdown. He and the Democrats are willing to negotiate with our country’s enemies, who happen to be Obama’s pals, but will not negotiate with the Republicans. But then, that’s the America-hating left for you.

  • antonio

With These Happening of Government Shut-Down, the Republicans in the Lower House of Congress are TO BE BLAME! How many Republican Politicians had served the Military? They are outnumbered by Democrats!

    • John

Antonio, news flash. I bet about as many Republicans as Democrats served in the military. That would be not to many, in the congress or senate. By the way the Obummer people ordered the shut down of the monument.

      • Paul

Antonio, the Republicans that are standing their ground are doing so because the people of their States demand it! They are doing their jobs as directed by their people. Unlike the Democraps, their voters tell them Obummercare is wrong and should be slowed down until it is all figured out but they ignore their own people and do what they want. Did you forget that the same hoodlums that passed Obummercare exempted themselves and their good budies from it but we the people cannot? Maybe you like being ruled over by corrupt government. I suggest you live in China, Russia or even Iran for couple years.

    • Henry

      Cite facts, not guesses

    • dan
    • momo

And what branch of the military did Obama serve in? Yeah, he didn’t.

    • Barakolips

Republicans are “To be blame” , now that’s some real good grammar there Antonio. What foreign country are you illegally here from? Go back there, America dosent want you!

  • Barbara Johnson

Funny how it was the Republicans who went out there and moved the barricades for the vets. It wasn’t the Democrats out there helping them.

    • Don Berry

Yeah, shut it down, then take credit for going around the law and forcing it back open. Michelle Bachmann: [expletive deleted] crazy. You all: Bachmann’s parrots: brawk, brawk, brawk…

    • Don Berry

Yeah, shut it down, then take credit for going around the law and forcing it back open. Michelle Bachmann: [expletive deleted] crazy. You all: Bachmann’s parrots: brawk, brawk, brawk…

    • Karolyn

      Grandstanding?

      • Nadzieja Batki

Oh my, Karolyn is learning the word of the day.

  • flashy

Well…no one stopped the vets. No one arrested them. It was at all monuments the shut down took effect. If there wasn’t park personnel around, and one of these vets took a dive…lawsuit? Security, clean up, maintenance. Just last month someone defaced with paint two monuments…

oh…and a GOP congressman “just happened” to be thete this one visit…photo op ? Ya think ?

As to “compromise, holding hostage the economy, welfare and security of our nation unless given whst the crazed wackos demand…that isn’t negotiating.its extortion. Its not attempting to work a budget through…its a Continuing Resolution while a budget is negotiated.

the crazies….the Tea Party and their followers, ate a small minority whose ideas are not the majority and are not sound, sane, nor reasonable. its clear, they care not about the Nation. They care to bring it down. They are the true evil stalking this land ..

    • Paul

Flashy, you are unreal! You need to open your eyes and read up on the history of humanity. Government and religion has been, and still is, the main cause of the destruction of humanity and it is fools like you that allow it to happen. The Tea Party and MOST American wants smaller government, less taxes and give back control to the people and their States. It is not a matter of being liberal or conservative; it is a matter of saving the US from complete collapse due to the corruption of this government. You need to join in and stand with the people and not government. Unless, of course, you depend on government to take care of you.

    • Henry

these weren’t ows or obama supporters there, no clean up would have been necessary like when obamabots trashed the national mall or ows wallstreet, no violence so no security needed, only obamas people are looking for lawsuits. The reps were there to meet their constituents.

    • Vigilant

“oh…and a GOP congressman “just happened” to be thete this one visit…photo op ? Ya think ?”

Didn’t know Claire McCaskill was a Republican.

good for Claire….I love it when Dems PROVE that they’re Americans first !

If Claire was an American first, perhaps she would have paid her taxes on her airplane!

You’re 100% correct…and Obama should either begin compromising or resign his office.

    • momo

      Hey flasho, UP YOURS!

    • Barakolips

You and yours are the true evil, and were going to bring you down, count on it.

  • charles

Ground that high dollar flying golf cart that don’t serve any useful purpose. That would make enough money to fund all the national parks for about two months. Let me run the govment for one day and I promise you, I will save the taxpayer enough in one day to run the govment for at least six months. First thing to save would be the white house liquor budget for a month or two. That alone would fund the rest of fuel for an aircraft carrier or two for quite a while. More money wasted in Washington in one day than the average person can even imagine.

  • JimH

These are men who invaded Normandy and climbed Mt, Suribachi. They went through SS troops and the Imperial Japanese Army.
A few Barry-cades and Park rangers won’ stop them.

  • David McMillan

Perhaps the Veterans could go over to 1600 Pennslyvania Ave and shut down that residence since there is no money to operate it!

    • peter

Not at all David, you forgot the special vault in the Whitehouse. You know, Michelle’s secret stash.

      • dan

I think they moved that to Switzerland on one of their Vaca’s…

..they’d better be careful of getting between Mooschella and her stash of Bar-b-que chicken-wings ,though….

  • Don Berry

Gee…what part of “non-essential” do you all not understand? Maybe tell your Teabagger friends in Congress to stop being the 5-year-old-having-a-tantrum about the debt ceiling, and maybe these services can be made available again, for everybody.

    • dan

Geee …non-esential like all of those old veterans who risked life and limb to make sure you had the the freedom to spout such foolishness
and without who you would be speaking german….definitely stupid possibly a troll

      • Don Berry

…and whose benefits the Teapublicans want to take away. The hypocracy here is simply amazing.

        • Henry

          name those benefits, troll

        • peter

And there I was thinking you had left the building Don! Sorry about that. Like Obama you are always right aren’t you? When your hero needs good advice he needs to ask Putin.

    • Paul

Don, do you consider ESSENTIAL that the large business (you know, the 1% liberals hate so much); our government and God know who else, gets a break in the Obummercare law, too? Meanwhile the rest of us are required to shut up and obey the law. Keep in mind if Obummercare IS the law, how can the same people that shoved it down our throats changed it without going thru the system/process? I am sure it was ESSENTIAL to violate our laws for the sake of government and their good buddies. You need to wake up, Don, and stand with the people instead of this corrupt government.

      • Don Berry

It’s the law…get used to it. End of discussion.

        • Amfer Ferg

          Good, now leave.

          • Nadzieja Batki

No, No. Let him prattle the nonsense and let him show his shallowness and viciousness and evil. We have been indoctrinated that all people are basically good that all they have to do to show their niceness is smile and say nice things.

        • Henry

slavery was the law once too.

          • Paul

Slavery never ended. The new slave owners are our government.

          • Nadzieja Batki

So your family were slaveholders and broke God’s laws. Don’t you feel better for admitting such.

          • Henry

You should learn to read. I never said my family owned slaves.Don’t you feel better admitting you have trouble comprehending a simple sentence?

          • Karolyn

Yes, she does have trouble with reading comprehension, preferring to add her own meanings and embellishments to peoples’ posts.

        • peggyjsl

And they say they didn’t even read it. Let’s pass it and then read it! They know what is in it and they planned on never having it for themselves and all their friends. Community Organizer is going to get his way, people will find out what is in it when it is to late and yes it is law – New World Order For All Of Us Slaves and there is a mark 666(badge of servitude) coming to all who follow this C.O. from Kenya. Everything he does is for the destruction of America.

        • Paul

I think you meant it is the law we the people must obey and not this government, correct? If that’s the case, I have to respect your socialist beliefs since our Constitution says so.

    • vietnamvet1971

Tell that Muslim / Homosexual Reprobate minded piece of Trash BULLY and he is a BULLY to kiss our Buttocks the next time you kiss his.

      • Don Berry

I don’t kiss anybody’s ass…least of all the morons who write the stuff you people here worship.

        • vietnamvet1971

SO who do you Worship? your god of this present Evil world. You must know the Demonrat party at their Evil UNGODLY convention Hated the word GOD mentioned and IF you support abortion & the Homosexual agenda you are just a Reprobate like them and NO Christian.

        • paulrph1

          Have you ever heard of accountability and responsibility. And those two terms do not relate to Obama or team Obama. Obama’s visions are warped. But to the idiot, like Biden they fall right into step. So where to you stand with Biden or responsible people? Let us see who Obama surrounds himself with now these are his nobles. Biden, the village idiot; Pelosi the deviant, Reid the slime ball, Geitner, the tax cheat; Kerry the anti-2nd amendment; H Clinton, the feigner; Obama, the impostor; Van Jones, the communist;

    • Henry

obama is the tantrum throwing five year old, you obama ass kisser

      • smilee

He has got the tea baggers by the balls though and it will not be too long before the start screaming

        • Nadzieja Batki

smillee, your desperation gives you away that you are afraid of O.

          • smilee

AFRAID??? What is there to be afraid of???? Certainly nothing from Obama

        • Henry

You people sure like to talk about “teabagging”, look it up to see what it means. And for sure you like to talk about mens balls….kind of strange behaviour for a heterosexual.

    • Vigilant

Hey, Dingle Berry, just what part of the word “insolvency” do you not understand?

Raising the debt ceiling would likely kill the US dollar, result in a second downgrade of US creditworthiness. send the stock market into a tailspin and push us into another depression.

The debt ceiling should be DROPPED, not raised, and the socialist politicians need to understand that our financial woes are merely going to increase unless this profligate spending/borrowing are radically reduced.

It would appear that YOU are the 5-year-old insofar as mental maturity is concerned.

      • Paul

Right on, buddy. Idiots like him are the direct cause of why our nation is in this mess. All they know if “free government stuff” without any consideration that we the people are the ones picking up the tab. Our nation WILL fail we don’t stand together. Not IF but WHEN it will fail.

        • smilee

For cripes sake we had one of our biggest messes ever when he got there he did not create it

          • Vigilant

True, he merely put it on steroids and did the same thing GWB did.

      • smilee

Raise the taxes to pay the debt and pay as you go would too. This would in a short time eliminate the debt service and then the taxes could be lowered again. There is more than one way to skin a cat!!

        • S.C.Murf

You are truly a paid troll smelly.

          up the hill
          airborne

          • smilee

Nobody pays me a dime, it is all my personal beliefs, but thanks for the stupid remark! Is it the best you can do??

          • Vigilant

I have no doubt you aren’t paid a dime for your efforts. No one would be that stupid.

          • Nadzieja Batki

S.C. Murf’s comment was a dilly, that you can’t even defend yourself verbally from his comment.

        • Vigilant

“There is more than one way to skin a cat!!”

You’re right about that. Unfortunately, you and your socialist brothers have only ever skinned it one way, by raising taxes. And, hypocritically as usual, the leftists don’t even abide by the policies of their god, John Maynard Keynes, who clearly advocated REDUCTION of taxes during downturns of the economy.

It’s not the raising or lowering of taxes that got us into this mess, it’s the SPENDING. BTW, ignoramus, you could tax ALL the American people at a 100% rate and you still wouldn’t put a dent in the debt.

I know this is the equivalent of rocket science to you, but it’s simple mathematics to those of us with an IQ higher than 50.

          • Nadzieja Batki

Thanks Vigilant. couldn’t put this better.

          • smilee

I see your Spouting off before putting your brain in gear again. Your wrong!! Bills should be paid and not needlessly put on the Credit Card

          • Vigilant

My God, is smilee actually advocating a capping of the debt limit?

You’ve painted yourself into a corner, idiot.

If you blame the decline of America on:

Now, don’t go away mad…just go away!

          • smilee

Now you do sound like a true tea partier as you do not possess the power todo that anymore than they do to destroy Obamacare., You both just think so but you both are delusional about it.

          • Nadzieja Batki

Why comment with a dither if you are not the one who is petrified that you may actually have to be responsible for yourself.

      • KG

No, that is an unfair list. The real groups who are responsible are the Ultra-Conservatives and the idiots who vote for them. It was their ‘base’ that sold-off American manufacturing to the lowest bidder in the 80’s. That’s why despite lots of spending in the financial sector, our economy continues to stall. The money is helping Business pay their dividends to their shareholders rather than financing any building or manufacturing in America.

        • Average_Joe56

“No, that is an unfair list.”
The list…is what it is…..who told you that anything in life was fair? They LIED to you.

    • Nadzieja Batki

Where is the money coming from? Supposedly the government doesn’t need the taxpayer money because it can just print as much as it wants. so then it is the Dems/Progs/Leftists who are playing this up. And aren’t you a darling caring and worrying about “MAYBE these services can be made available again for EVERYBODY”.

  • Ronr

I think it is so unamerican to go around bragging about closing down government and saying this is what we wanted , and BTW we are all united on this , and then go to a veterans monument for a photo op. those veterans should have run their asses up a flag pole. But that is how it goes most times. The cowards with no military service are always trying to use veterans for their personal gain.
They shut the government down because they foregot that you repeal or amend laws. Not defund them. They come up with lie after lie , then go on photo ops like they are the only Americans. But now it’s Obamas fault. B/S !!!

    • Henry

It is obama and the dems fault.

      • dan

the people that voted them in share the blame…not to mention the lap-Rino’s that do their bidding and don’t undo the damage
        when they get a chance….

    • Vigilant

“They shut the government down because they foregot [sic] that you repeal or amend laws. Not defund them.”

Wrong. Perhaps you should refresh your reading of the Constitution, Article I, Section 7.

      • Average_Joe56

Liberals don’t read…what were you thinking? It would have to be distributed in 15 second sound bites on MSNBC for the liberals to absorb it…and we all know that isn’t going to happen…..
        ;)

        • Vigilant

You’re absolutely correct. Yesterday, the piss poor performance of Alex and Dave in being unable to distinguish Constitutionality from unconstitutionality proves it.

Today we have Smilee, the epitome of ignorance and stupidity when it comes to the Constitution (and the English language).

      • KG

Don’t forget Article II Sec. III Clause VI – …he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed…

Thats why the WWII monument was closed. Our President, Mr Obama, is doing his constitutional duty as our president.

Unless you WANT to see some old people get a broken hip from tripping on trash??

        • Vigilant

“Don’t forget Article II Sec. III Clause VI – …he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed…”

You mean like federal immigration law? Or perhaps DOMA? Don’t forget the illegal GM bailout. Fast & Furious rings a bell. IRS targeting of Conservatives. You might want to consider his violation of the War Powers Act in Libya. “Recess” appointments of federal officials when the Senate was not in recess? I could go on.

KG, you are stepping on it big time if you’re purporting to hold up Obama as a paragon of presidential virtue in upholding the laws.

          • http://personalliberty.com/ Bob Livingston

            Dear Vigilant,

      • smilee

        Which you repeatedly misinterpret

        • Vigilant

Clarify sonny, clarify. Tell us all (we’re waiting with bated breath) how the Constitution in any way prohibits the failure to appropriate funds for any reason at any time.

C’mon. Mr. Constitutional expert, tell us!

I have many times before so will not repeat myself here!!

          • Vigilant

That’s a flat out lie. You have never addressed how the Constitution in any way prohibits the failure to appropriate funds for any reason at any time.

Don’t go off on a tangent and get into other arguments we’ve had, address this specific challenge if you have any semblance of intellectual integrity (which I doubt).

My prediction: you won’t address it specifically.

          • smilee

DID TOO, is your memory failing to now???

          • Vigilant

            My prediction was correct.

Yes, smilee, my memory is failing. Please enlighten us so we can all enjoy the spectacle of you making an intellectual ass out of yourself once again.

Second prediction: he STILL won’t answer the challenge of proving the Constitution prohibits the failure to appropriate funds for any reason at any time.

It goes without saying that he won’t answer it.

          • Vigilant

            Dear Mr. Smilee,

By a rare unanimous vote, the Board of Directors has bestowed upon you the weekly DRA (Dumb Response Award). As you know, this is a Progressive-sponsored award, given the fact that socialists dominate the field.

After having assessed thousands of responses on PLD, we have concluded with high confidence that the quantity and quality of your comments warrant this accolade.

You will remain in the running in our other categories of awards, the DOLT (Dearth of Logic Trophy), the MIAC (Mendaciousness in Action Certificate), and the FTRWFA (Failure to Respond with Facts Award) as well as the coverall general award, the IDIOT (Ignorant Display in Other Things).

Understand this is a weekly bestowment. You can keep and hold this position for as long as your responses outweigh the marginally more intelligent comments of your competitors. Please be cognizant that competition is keen in this area. Keep your nose to the grindstone and you should have no fear of being superseded by Alex, Dave, Eric Bischoff, Flashy, Right Brain Thinker, KG, nc, Doc Sarvis, et. al.

            Sincerely,

            Seymour Dullards

          • Average_Joe56

          • Vigilant

            Thanks. AJ!

          • Nadzieja Batki

You just proved Vigilant right, that you won’t address it specifically.

    • peter

No man, it’s Bush’s fault or have you forgotten so soon?

      • dan

        forgot your LOL ….rofl

      • nc

Peter, we will never forget bush and his administration that blew a 91% approval rating by not delivering the economy he promised for the rich man tax cuts, blowing the Katrina rescue, the wars for the wrong reasons, and in general delivering a total wreck to Obama
Only 25% of those Americans polled at the end approved of how he was running the country? What happened to the 91%! I’ll tell you!!
THE SELF PROCLAIMED “DECIDER” DECIDED AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE QUITE UNPOPULAR WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! See polls and the 2008 and 2012 election results.
Surely you don’t deny what 69 million Americans saw in Nov 2008.
bush did a lot to collect fault from 2001-2008 and he hadn’t cleaned up any of it by NOV< 200! Hence McCain had to bite the bush bullet and drag Caribou Barbie along at the same time.

ps: Thanks also for the mittons ticket! Not only the Democrats had not forgotten the bush performance(?) but a lot moderates and independents had not forgotten either.

    • Paul

Ron, they offered to negotiate and provide the same exemptions this government and their 1% wealthy buddies are getting but they refused. The intent was not to defund anything but to provides the same benefits and choices for the people. This government does not like many parts of Obummercare but they will not offer the same exemptions to the people. Is that fair? The only option they had was to stand their ground, as directed by their people, and negotiate. Obummer will have none of it. I say keep it shut down until we ALL have the same offer as our government.

      • smilee

Voted down 45 times and they still will not admit they are defeated, that is insane, They also ignore the electorate re-elected Obama thus he was given veto power over it which they also ignore.

        • Nadzieja Batki

You, in fact, look down and mock and hate those veterans but if you could use those veterans for O’s agenda you would pretend like and fawn over them.

Congress has the DUTY to not fund fraudulent laws. Putting a bill up for vote without first having the opportunity to read it is out of order and certainly fraudulent. The ONLY way Nancy Piglosi could get this monstrosity passed is to request a vote immediately prior to a recess. Our NON-REPRESENTATIVES bit and voted just so they could recess. Typical liberal politics, hide/bury the truth then it’s too late.

Congress people who are dishonest should be put in the pillory for all to witness and publicly humiliated. It was effective then but liberals of that era managed to abolish this as inhumane.

Time to understand that people are irrelevant, no matter who is in charge. The time is fast approaching when those who are left will be slaves and the elites will carry on making their fortunes out of nothing. That is how ponzi schemes work and the world is a giant ponzi scheme. When cheap money ( Bernankes printing press ) is available in ever increasing amounts to the wealthy, why would the common folk be relevant? This administration does not just hate and scorn everything that is not theirs, they actually despise everyone, including some of their so called friends. These two legged talking heads or whatever they may be, are planning much worse, so get ready to do their bidding or suffer the consequences, which are guaranteed to be very uncomfortable, but for the very few. The real circus awaits when they turn on one another – hope to be around to see that one!

This is a total nonsense story. The shutting down of public monuments and public parks is a routine procedure during government shutdowns. Past administrations have done the exact same thing. It is not an Obama vendetta against WWII veterans anymore that the closing down of national parks is an Obama vendetta against environmentalists and naturalists. This endless search for nefarious motivations by the president is laughable. The other day a crackpot tea party Congressman called the Affordable Care Act the “most insidious law ever passed in the history of man.” In the history of Man! What about the Nuremberg Laws? The Inquisition Laws of the Middle Ages? Slavery laws in the American South, the Caribbean, and Brazil? The Jim Crow laws that denied African Americans equal access to public facilities, transportation, and the voting booth? It is this kind of ludicrous exaggerating that leads to even more hyped-up paranoia. Many school children could not visit closed national monuments in DC this week, so Obama is launching a war – not just against WWII veterans- but also against children. He hates and is out to humiliate all American children. What utter nonsense only swallowed hook, line, and sinker by the usual haters and extremists. If the right cares so much about veterans then why does the Ryan Budget that they worship call for cuts in their benefits. If the right wants the WWII monuments open, then should pass a clean CR and be done with it. This will happen in another week anyway. All this grandstanding just makes the Republicans and the article writer at PLD look like fools.

Can you explain what is essential and worth shutting the government down over delaying the individual mandate, the employer mandate and the congressional special subsidies that Reid and Obama think they must stay? Because thats what was in the last proposal. Its not grandstanding at all. The constitution allows the house to determine which activities of the government to fund, and they approved several bills. What hasnt been clear, or expressed with any honesty in the media or by Obama during his many public speeches is why these items are off the table. Instead, he has lied, using phrases like “preventing access to healthcare” etc. Its congressional record what was submitted. Go read it. Then see if your exhalted leader are still telling the truth.

          • smilee

It is grand stand standing when you know without a doubt it will fail. The better question is what would waiting one more year accomplish?? They have lost this battle so they should do themselves favor and throw in the towel.

Sleepee says — “The definition of insanity has been said be doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Whatever. I will ignore his bad grammar.
“Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”?
Kind of like buying into the same old story, year after year, that the Government is here to help us. And no matter how much “help” they give us, our Prosperity and our Freedom keep on shrinking.
        An example:
40 years ago, I had an entry level job, and my wife worked as a telephone operator. Our combined income was about $1500/month before taxes. We bought an 1800 square-foot home in a nice neighborhood for $23000. We put $3000 down, so our mortgage was $20,000. Our house payment was about $120/month. We were paying about $250/month because the cost of living then was very low, and we had plenty of surplus savings. Our loan would have been paid off in less than 10 years.
        Try doing that now.
Back then total Government Spending was about 30% of GDP. Now it is 41% of GDP. What have we gotten for that 36% increase in the size of Government?

    • senior65gal .

One still wonders why our legislators can bicker over funding or defunding obamacare when they are exempt from it. Are they not part of ‘we the people?’ Goes to show they do not care about us but have to pay the political game for election time.
The drugged out and dummied down will vote for politicians that push for Obamacare because they love what they call the ‘perks.’ They don’t have the knowledge and/or motivation to come off the drugs and educate themselves,

      What a waste of humanity.

  • Rich39

Strange.. The GOP loved Romneycare, but hate Obamacare.. and it’s the SAME thing.
The Republicans in out nation hate Obamacare, but love the ACA. And it’s the SAME thing. Obamacare was too high. But the ACA his not. This shows you how people think in our nation.

    • Scott Shipman

RomneyCare was a modifed version of Heritage Foundation paper on healthcare options, that included an individual mandate and health exchanges. However, Romneycare was negotiated into what it was by a largely democratic state legislature and incorrectly bears his name. Yes he signed it, because it was created through a legitimate process. However, what was in that original Heritage Foundation paper, and what is the ACA are very different. The HF version didnt have penalties to employers or individuals – it had tax credits. The exchanges were meant to create options, not limit them, and there were no subsidies for goiv’t sponsored plans, there were vouchers to use on any plan out there. The individual manadte applied only to catastrophic insurance, not general plans. (IE if you carried any form of insurance you got the credit, but you could just carry catastrophic if you wanted). Many of these same ideas were floated by conservatives during the negotiation process, but every single one of them were shot down by dems or never brought to the table for discussion.

So, your talking point is false.

      • PaxMentis

That does not even take into account that, while the federal government is constitutionally restrained from acting in areas other than it’s enumerated areas of responsibility (see 10th Amendment), those other areas are reserved to the states or to the people. In other words (for those who are “understanding challenged”), that which the feds cannot do, individual states can do.

        • Scott Shipman

Results from Romneycare include: an increase in medical based bankruptcy, a decrease in people insured through private insurance (attributed to an expansion of medicaid), and no measurable difference in non-emergency ER visits. Mass has about 4-6% less uninsured as measured between 2011 and 2006 (when it was enacted). The penalities in Romneycare are much lower, and the subsidies are funded from already existing funds, not new taxes, and the ‘exchange’ added options, not limited them.

          • PaxMentis

I am not sure why you made that post as a response to mine. I have made no statements regarding efficacy, since the constitutional issue regarding the federal program makes it irrelevant when speaking of Obamacare…

Government never has the “legitimate” right to protect people from themselves. It just takes it.
“To say governments were formed to protect the rights of men would be historically incorrect. Almost all governments were formed by ruthless men exerting their will over others through the use of force. Some governments, over time, evolved toward the rule of law, perhaps only because their rulers saw that this would sanction their own continued enjoyment of the wealth that they possessed. In some instances, this evolution involved one or more “revolutions” in which those who were governed were able to better establish the rule of law”.

If you look at the facts, you’ll see that it wasnt the republicans who ‘shut the government down’ but Harry Reid, who refuses to negotiate unless he gets exactly what he wants. The house passed a budget to fully fund the government, except for a few non-essential provisions of ACA (ind mandate, empl mandate and congressional subsidies). Reid is willing to shut the gov down for those things. The constitution states that the budget must come from the house. If the senate modifies a house approved budget, there is an option for committee conference, but Reid rejected that as well. The fatcs are that there are 3 branches of government. ALL of them have done what the constitution allows them, requires them to do. They each made choices and they all should be held accountible for their choices – including Senate Dems and Obama.

Really? Their job is to barricade an open air monument and then police it like thugs to make sure they inconvenience Americans, for what? how is it shutting down government when they are paying security guards to keep the public OUT of an open air monument. This is just another example of how this administration wastes taxpayer money… The only reason that security guard needs to be there is to keep a watch for possible terrorists. To deny access to this monument just because the government is shut down is outrageous. If they charged admission and had to pay someone to manage that, it would make sense to close it, but that is not the case here. Just like denying access to riverboats in Minnesota because the river is part of the National Park System is outrageous. The government does not operate the tour boats, private citizens do, small business owners, the people obama set out to destroy from his first day in office. obama knows the people he hurts when he denies access to the unmanned National Parks ARE THOSE WHO DO NOT SUPPORT HIM, that is why he does it… This is harassment, plain and simple. These veterans are likely CONSERVATIVE and do not support obama or his agenda, that is why obama picked this monument to barricade! The majority of people who vote for obama would never have the opportunity to visit our National Parks. The chance of him harming one of his supporters in these outrageous actions he is taking to punish conservatives is limited if not highly unlikely!

obama is the one that needs to be shut-down.

    • NickCzudy

How about we shut down and fire John Boehner and all of the GOP congressmen? There is nothing that they will not do do get back their power hungry political control. Then they will force themselves on everyone and take away our freedom. Stay out of womens vaginas. Stop preventing Americans from voting. Stop going to war.
Stop giving away money to the wealthy and sticking it to the middle class.

“How about we shut down and fire John Boehner and all of the GOP congressmen?”

        Give it your best shot….
BTW, who is this “we” that you are referring to? You got a mouse in your back pocket?

” There is nothing that they will not do do get back their power hungry political control.”

Kind of like Democrats…who’ll do anything (even illegal) to hold on to their political control?

        “Stay out of women’s vaginas.”

Sorry, unlike you…I happen to like women and their vaginas
and apparently, they like me too ( sorry I’m not available for your limp wristed type of debauchery).

        “Stop preventing Americans from voting.”

You mean like illegals and dead people? Those are the only people that we are trying to stop from voting…..

        ” Stop going to war.”

You may wish to contact your Democrat representatives concerning that matter…..after all, we have been involved in more conflicts during this presidency and this administration… than we were with the previous administration…. (google is your friend).

“Stop giving away money to the wealthy and sticking it to the middle class.”
You do know that both sides of the aisle are taking bribes from lobbyists to pass “sweetheart deals”…right? You do realize that Democrats are just as complicit…right?
I realize that after being brainwashed by the Public Propaganda System….adjusting to reality may be difficult for you… but please make an attempt to readjust…Or, you can simply double down and bury your head deeper into the cesspool of liberalism…
The choice is yours…don’t ( I know that I am wasting my time, but) squander an opportunity to improve your well being and that of your fellow man.

        • NickCzudy

          Hey Average Joe.
If you like Vagina’s then try a ultrasound probe on your girlfriends, she might like it better than what she gets from you
. My women do not need these.
I am not nieve enough to dobt that both sides are taking bribes, but the ratio is closer to about 80:20 with the GOP being in the pockets of the medical lobby and the Kock brothers and most big wealthy business.
I do this to try and improve your poor little brain washed mind. You are far too gullible to take all of the bull that comes out of the Right wing bubble.
You need to use your own brain when you hear a piece of propaganda and you mistake it for fact.
About going to war. who are you kidding. Obama did not take us into two wars on the USA’s credit card. One war has been terminated and the 2nd will be killed next year. Obama gets full credit for that. You cannot turn this around.
This is one of the misguided rants that the Right Wing constantly like to use. Illegal voting by dead and illegal people. There have been less that one dozen voting frauds committed in the last elections. & of them were done by republicans. So when will you stop spouting the non-existent voting fraud?
On the other hand, there are 100’s of thousands of eligible voters that are prevented from voting. Isn’t that a little overkill?
Also if voter ID is your big bone of contention, why are the days of voting being decreased? Why are the number of polling stations being decreased?
why are the early registration being decreased? After all, this would give the registrars, more time to vet the potential voters. It is so obvious that voter fraud is not the issue. It is to reduce the number of Democratic voters since the GOP cannot win an election fairly.
I apologize if I am being a little crass. I am sick of the constant Right Wing Bull that constantly comes out of the mouths of the GOP. I am listening just now to Sen. Cruz, ranting about the evil government closing the parks and monuments, then saying how they are so concerned over the poor American people. First they do not think twice to cut the government services and put 800 thousand Americans out of work. Is this what they they think is some form of job stimulus?
Then they go out to the monuments and have photo sessions hugging and kissing ass with the people, telling them how bad this is, when they are the ones that have put them out of work.

I cannot believe the hypocritical crass that the GOP show, when trying to coerce us into their agenda.
They lost the election. People want Obamacare, We do not want the false agenda of the GOP.
Get over it and govern properly.
          Best regards

Vigilante. The majority of Americans voted for Obamacare. Those opposed are the same pros that predicted Romney’s overwhelming win in 2012. Your experts like Dick Morris and Carl Rove. Here read this article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/30/obamacare-polls_n_4018888.html
I have to laugh today as Sen Cruz makes a speech that if Americans voted to de-fund Obamacare, they would get 100% of the vote. He is sure smoking some funny cigarettes or is taking his poll numbers from Dick Morris.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

            Nick Czudy

          • Vigilant

Nick, it’s customary for progressives to preface their lies with a few innocuous sentences, but you jump right in and prevaricate twice with your first (complete) sentence: “The majority of Americans voted for Obamacare.”.

First: the majority of those VOTING elected Obama, NOT a majority of Americans. Second: a majority or plurality of Americans has disapproved of Obamacare since its inception in 2010. SCORES of opinion polls, even by the leftist pollsters, have borne that out.

Those are undeniable FACTS, and no devious twisting of the truth by you can change that. Indeed, “you are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.”

The difference between you and me is that my opinion gibes with the facts, your opinions are hopelessly divorced from the facts.

          • NickCzudy

Vigilante. Yes the majority of people voting for Obama were Americans. You have nothing but the usual Right Wing propaganda that there was immense voter fraud.
Nothing was proven in all of the investigations. That is fact. Prove it otherwise. I already have the article of the lady with dementia that voted for her daughter as well.
NO cases of fraud were found in Florida or Ohio.
the polls actually show how many voted for Obamacare and against. As well those numbers show people that wanted to go even further than Obamacare to a single payer system. You are using those numbers to say that they are against Obamacare. Those really should be counted with the Obamacare numbers as that is a step to the best system of a total single payer (government) health system. they certainly are not voting to repeal Obamacare. You are in the minority.

Those are the undeniable facts. Get out from under the Right Wing Bubble and get back into this dimension.
Those facts are undeniable. You cannot twist that to mean that more people do not want Obamacare.

          • Average_Joe56

” My women do not need these.”

Because you have no women? You were the one, after all telling us to stay out of those…you incriminated yourself.

“I am not nieve (sic)enough to dobt (sic)that both sides are taking bribes, but the ratio is closer to about 80:20 with the GOP being in the pockets of the medical lobby and the Kock (sic and sick) brothers and most big wealthy business.”

Conjecture on your part…your proof? Put up or shut up.

“I do this to try and improve your poor little brain washed mind.”

What is it that you try to do…other than say stupid things with absolutely nothing to back up your claims?

” Obama did not take us into two wars on the USA’s credit card.”

Hmmm Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Libya, Mali…and he wants Syria and Iran so bad, he salivates over the mention You’re right…not two…. Five and we still have troops in Iraq as well. No warmongering in good old Mr. Nobel Peace Prize…..not at all.

“This is one of the misguided rants that the Right Wing constantly like to use. Illegal voting by dead and illegal people.”

Well then, you should have no problems backing up your claims with something other than your opinion…right? Once again, put up or shut up.

“On the other hand, there are 100’s of thousands of eligible voters that are prevented from voting. Isn’t that a little overkill?”

Proof? Once again…another opinion piece from you with no basis in reality and no proof.

“I apologize if I am being a little crass.”

Crass? No…Stupid, yes. You have entered into a battle of minds and you simply arrived…unarmed.

“Then they go out to the monuments and have photo sessions”
The Congressman who was there was Steve King, congressman from Iowa. The Veterans who were attending the Memorial….were flown in from Iowa. Steve King is their representative ( funny how that works). Steve King was there to greet the Veterans, just as he always does ( and so do other Representatives…when one of these flights come from their states ( who would have thought? Not Nicky Pooh). When they arrived at the Memorial and it was Barrycaded, Mr. King Called a few of his colleagues and told them what was going on….An open air memorial that is open 27/7 365 and has never been Barrycaded before during any government shut down….was suddenly and maliciously erected to punish the American people…. Throwing a tantrum because the Republicans are not bowing to his royal Hiney.
Come back when you have something valid to offer….I’ve had enough of your opinion…try bringing verifiable data to validate your ludicrous ramblings….otherwise you’re simply blowing smoke up your own backside.

You really need to stop tripping over yourself, trying to defend your position and that of Mr. Sotero… they are both…..indefensible.

          • NickCzudy

Here Joe. I will give you some of your own logic.

You said “Because you have no women?” How do you know. show me your proof.
Everything you say is without proof. I will not even try to look up your so called facts as I know that they do not exist.
If Rep King was so concerned about his constituents, why did you close all the parks in the first place. That stunt was a pathetic show to the cameras. If he did not bring in the Queen of crazy, it might have been believable. She is the one that is on record on every station, even FOX, saying,”How happy she was that they shut down the government. They have been waiting to do this for years.” You can look that one up yourself. If you need some help, let me know.
The reason that they have to close public places is for liability that trigger happy lawyers will sue the government if someone stubs their toes on public property. Look it up. I cannot park a car on a vacant parking lot without getting liability insurance. It is ridiculous but true.
Oh yeah, most of the government lawyers were also laid off.
I have only seen one example of a Democrat, lady that voted twice because she thought that she was voting for her daughter and she has Alzheimers. This is the one big voting fraud that the GOP have come up with.
The Justice department investigated all of the various states claims to voter fraud and there was none found.
In Florida, Gov. Scott claimed that there were thousands that voted that were dead. When investigated, there were found to be none. The dead people had been purged off of the voting lists. Look it up. Gov, Scott was one of the worst one for trying to keep Democrats from voting. It back fired on him, as it pissed them off and they were willing to stand for 20 hours to be able to vote against this tyranny.
Oh what ever happened to your big claim of wanting freedom as your main mantra. Freedom for yourself, but restrictions on all others.
Most of your rants are nothing more than the usual crap that is inside the world of the Right Wing Bubble.
You all believe it, but no one else does.
            regards

Joe, Joe, Joe! You are so descriptive about “women’s vaginas”, but Nikita’s meaning of his statement isn’t your naïvely innocent meaning – Godly meaning.

As any good liberal Democrat Nikita is for the ‘rights’ for some minorities. And that particular minority doesn’t need “women’s vaginas”. They need …Please think a little bit.

Do not you know that the sex-education now starts at the kindergarten with the toddlers age 5?

They will be taught that there are the different types of family: (1) ‘vagina’ and penis; (2) penis and penis; (3) vagina and vagina. (Even more than 30 States have their States’ Constitutional Amendments banning legal recognition of same-sex marriage and civil unions.)

Nadzieja . Boehner is not one of the Dems. He is actually one of the saner GOP. the 40 or so, Tea Partiers are just hell bent on eliminating government. Then they can run roughshod over Americans, taking away their liberty and sticking their guns in our faces.

Judging from all of the worthless posts coming from smilee today (And there is an over abundance of them)….I think smilee is extremely frightened.
As his Messiah’ popularity crumbles and people start to wake up about O and the true intentions of the Democrat Party…. smilee has gone into overdrive with his…”we won, get over it!” approach…. followed up by “it’s the Law and you can’t defund it…or get rid of it”….followed by “WAH, WAH, WAH”.
These are the desperate acts and comments from a man and his “party” who is watching his entire world collapse before his very eyes…Oh, the horror!
How sad his desperation must be …to grovel and whine like a child not given his dessert…..
It’s starting to look like he may get his “just rewards” though…a Republican congress with a majority in both houses…followed by a conservative president.

Perhaps if he believes hard enough his fear will just fade away (isn’t this what liberals do any way wish problems would heal themselves?)

When the next evolution of OUR government comes about those who depend on government will need to fend for themselves as their “free ride” will just be a fond memory.

If we could shut down Air Force One and short circuit his teleprompter, what would he do then.

    • NickCzudy

Carlos. It is good to hear form you again today. I cannot understand why the GOP and all of you under the Right Wing Bubble, keep badgering about the teleprompter.
Bush could not give a press conference unless his staff got questions approved from the journalists in advance and had pat answers prepared for him. He was unable to talk ad hoc and would put his foot in his mouth if caught with out a scripted answer..
All of the politicians and business leaders use a teleprompter when giving a prepared speech. It enables them to look at the people when they are talking instead of their notes. Once the speeches are over, the talk off the cuff.
None of the presidents since I was born, have been able to go off the cuff with journalist and pundits like Obama.
So I do not understand why the Right Wing Bubble keep trying to use this point, to try to demean Obama, when it is actually one of his strong points.

It is pathetic how you try to milk non issues. It shows a sign of desperation. This is similar to Benghazi and the IRS faux-scandels.
Keep it up. It keeps telling us why we should never listen to any of your opinions.

      regards
      Nick Czudy

      • Don 2

        Obama Cyber-Warrior Nick,

Unlike Obama, at least Bush did not need a teleprompter to speak with kindergarten children, and at least Bush knew how many states in the U.S.A.

Obama – go off the cuff with journalist, you say? Since when? The guy gives his little pre-written speeches, then runs off the stage w/o answering questions.

      • Carlos

NickCzudy says:”None of the presidents since I was born, have been able to go off the cuff with journalist and pundits like Obama.”
Does this mean you were born in 2008, what a miracle. Of course your comments kind of verify that. Reagan, Bush, Clinton and”Barry doesn’t belong in the same league with Bill Clinton.”

Barry is the least knowledgeable of any President since FDR,
without the teleprompter he is what he is, an empty suit. This is not even worth discussing, the man can’t speak without someone putting words in his mouth, he’s nothing more than a puppet. “The Wizard of Oz”

Please tell me what Barrys strong points are, besides lying..
I have to admit in that category he even puts the Clintons to shame.
As a president he has dishonored the country, gets put down by most foreign leaders, Putin sure made him look exactly what he is and the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, made him look like a dunce,

What foreign leader did that to Bush?, They had respect for him, Ask Saddam Hussien..
The Prime Minister of Israel knows what Barry is, It’s easy to tell when he holds a conference after any meeting.
But, you hang in there, Barry will have to start a war, things are closing in on him, like Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS, NSA, when the ignorant wake up and find out Obamacare is not a panacea, Barry will meet his doom. that is if he is not in prison with most of his brothers.

        • NickCzudy

Wo you really live on another planet in another dimension. Get back to reality.
I can tell who I am dealing with, when you bring up dead issues like Benghazi, Fast and Furious and the IRA. Daryl Issa’s attempt on these witch hunts came up empty and they are dead.
But I know that after 5 years, you still have nothing bad to pin on Obama so that you desperately cling to these dead issues. It is pathetic.

          • Carlos

NickCzudy, As much as you would like to believe that Banghazi an the numerous other scandals will go away, they are not!
They will soon be back on the front burner, I would say most likely they will hit full steam by late spring 2014.
And if we have a just God, Barry will get his due
Right now there’s no way he would be convicted even if Congress impeached him.can’t you see Harry Reid and the other Bolsheviks convicting him in the Senate, even if he was found guilty of crucifying Christ, they wouldn’t pull the trigger on him.

The Democratic party today is nothing more than an offspring of the old Soviet Communist party, It has taken them over sixty years to complete the infusion and now they have reached their pinnacle with their Muslim and chief installed as their leader, he’s not really a leader, just an illusion. The Wizard of Oz.

    • Dennis Smith

The one thing he said he will, he will-this was 10-2-2013, the media will not mention it. he stated over a live nicrophone that he will use his money to build that muslim temple in Washington DC. His money, are those funds that keep the White House, AF1, vacations, political inspections of Hawaii, Canne, Europe, Asian countries, except Kenya? There is a stench, that is questionable there as to to legality, honesty, and other irregularities. I pray that a responsible party or parties can investigate this.

Dave. Haha Yes I heard that. Did you hear his speech (rant) today saying how petty the government was to close the parks to the war veterans. Amazing how quick Michelle Bachman, Louey Gomert and Rep King they got in their to complain of the closing of the parks. Opps., they were the ones that closed the government.
They all claim they are religious people and Christians yet they would stab all of these people in the back and then cry that Obama did it.

This basic lack of morels unfortunately permeates most of the GOP. there are some notable exceptions, but I would put about 80% of them into the despicable, hypocrite category.
They praise the lord on one side of their mouth and then they screw Americans with the other.
The only ones that are buying their attempt to blame the Dem;s are the other GOP from under the Right Wing Bubble.
As one congressman said, We need to not be disrespected. We need to be given something in return.
Respect has to be earned. A person cannot demand respect if they do nothing to deserve it.
      best regards

Nick Czudy: Respect has to be earned. A person cannot demand respect if they do nothing to deserve it.

Is that why Obama still gets no respect? He’s the laughing stock of the international-community.

        • NickCzudy

Hey Jay. That is why the whole world respects Obama except all of you under the Right Wing Bubble. You live in another world.
No you live in another dimension.

More like, an Obama cyber-ghoul…or an Obama dung-beetle.

          • NickCzudy

What is an Obama Cyber warrior?
What are you called that are under the Right Wing Bubble?
            Bubble heads?

          • WTS/JAY

Nobody respects him except for the ghouls that voted for him; and some of those ghouls are actually waking up, and jumping ship. Obama will go down in the history books as the worst president of the U.S., even worse than Bush, which i never in my wildest dream thought that it could ever be possible. But low and behold, Obama is worse than even Bush. Wow!

          • NickCzudy

Actually the majority of Americans think that he is doing a good job under the most difficult conditions. Being able to do anything with a do nothing Congress is quite a feat.
He is on his way to being one of the best presidents ever. Does that scare you? haha. I know with the rampant hate the the Right has for Obama, that it really irks you. Since you already know that he has done such a good job, that they GOP has dedicated themselves to try and go against anything that Obama stands for.
It isn’t working. Look at the current battle with Obamacare. GOP are desperate to hold onto something. They will not win.
            regards

          • WTS/JAY

A majority of Americans believe that the government is broken. 81% of Americans according to a newCNN poll believe that the US government is broken; however, 81% believe it can be fixed. Americans overwhelmingly think that the government in this country is broken, according to a new national poll. But the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, also indicates that the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what’s broken can be fixed.

Eighty-six percent of people questioned in the poll say that our system of government is broken, with 14 percent saying no. Of that 86 percent, 81 percent say that the government can be fixed, with 5 percent saying it’s beyond repair.

The 86% of Americans believing that the government is broken is up 8% points from 2006, the GWB years. Imagine that, Americans feel that the US government is more broken under Barack Hussein Obama than during Gorge W. Bush. What happened to that candidate that was going to reach across the aisle and bring change to DC?

            http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/02/21/cnn-poll-majority-think-government-is-broken/?fbid=XAjS5FoZMmI

          • NickCzudy

Jay, I agree with the numbers in these polls. I also saw it.
But these polls was indicating that it is the GOP Congress that is the part of the government that is broken.
You never mentioned that. It isn’t the leader Obama that these people are complaining about. It is the broken and obstructing Congress that this survey is referring to.

          • WTS/JAY

First you say; “Actually the majority of Americans think that he is doing a good job under the most difficult conditions.” Then, you agree with the poll that claims the majority are dissatisfied with our government and believe our government is broken. You can’t have it both ways, Nick.

          • Jana

            Wrong!!!!

          • Jana

Obama is a laughing stock of the world.

      • Don 2

So, the Park Police are indeed working. Who is their ultimate boss(Obama), and who told the Park Police to barricade a simple open air monument? It is the equivalent to barricading a statue on Main Street, and it was done solely to inflict unnecessary pain on the elderly war veterans in an attempt to blame it on the House. Easy to see through…..

        • Don 2

          Obama Cyber-Warrior Dave,

So, tell Dinghy Harry Reid to pass, one of the House bills to fund the government.

          • NickCzudy

So tell Biehner to fund the whole government and then negotiate with Congress without a gun to their heads. Why do the GOP get to choose what departments they deem worthy to be funded and which do not. they did not want to fund FEMA, then there is a hurricane pressing. Of course they rush to open FEMA. Just fund the whole government and if they want to streamline government they can do it in normal business and discussion. If they do this with a gun to our heads, they are no better than terrorists.
            Nick

          • Don 2

The House wanted to fund all of government, and not fund Obamacare. The House gets to choose what to fund because that’s the way government is set up.

If anyone is a terrorist, it is all of you paid Cyber-Warriors for Obama Project terrorists on these sites.

          • NickCzudy

Don. Yes you are right. The house gets to choose and the Senate and Obama have the right to ignore these bills that the GOP keep sending them. That is the constitution and I know that all of you are patriots and live by the constitution. Right?

          • NickCzudy

Which one of the bills should the senate sign?
He will sign the clean bill in two hours. How about the GOP send that one over to the Senate?

        • NickCzudy

You think that the amazing Obama was able to personally devise a script for closing the government personally. I know that he is amazing, but he really does not deal with the fine details of every government department.
each department has its own plan in place and makes that decision.
Obama is for the poor vets to keep getting their government services. I do not see the GOP wanting to help them.

          • PaxMentis

Then why did he say he would veto a bill to make sure those disabled by their service continue to receive their compensation payments?

          • NickCzudy

He vetoed a single bill to restore one part of government over others. Why do the GOP get to restore their favorite parts of government and not others.

What are their parameters to decide who is worthy?

This is just a single part of 800,000 people that lost their jobs. Obama will sign a bill to restore all of government in two hours. That was a quote from today.
To use your analogy, why does Beihner and the GOP want to block 800,000 workers from earning a living, research into cancer, food for children, Inspectors keeping our food safe to eat, our NSA and CIA keeping us safe from terrorists and on and on. Why just a few in government get to have their jobs back?

          • PaxMentis

Never mind, you are apparently dense enough that you believe the crap you spout…and truly don’t see the difference. Like the man said, “you can’t fix stupid”…

      • WTS/JAY

Nick: Dave. Haha Yes I heard that. Did you hear his speech (rant) today saying how petty the government was to close the parks to the war veterans.

But it gets worse. Not only did the Obama administration abuse these WWII Veterans by erecting needless barricades, Democrats in the House killed a bill to fund the Veterans Administration.

A two-thirds majority was needed on this procedural vote, and it failed because almost all Democrats voted against it.

REID’s reply was: WHY WOULD WE WANT TO DO THAT? I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own. To have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means you’re irresponsible and reckless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0lFyFJeZSY

Of cause that was Dana Bash fault.

Or here is another compassionate DemocRatic “Samaritan” – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius. When she was asked to waive a regulation that stands in the way of a 10-year-old girl, from receiving an adult lung that will save her life, she said: “Well, I would suggest sir, that this is an incredibly agonizing situation where SOMEONE LIVES AND SOMEONE DIES.”

Without the transplant, Sarah had an estimated three to five weeks to live. Sebelius has the power to waive the federal regulation and help the girl. But she did not help the girl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChXWA4UbGJ4

ALL IS DONE IN THE NAME OF ‘LOVE’ FOR PEOPLE
The Grand Canyon National Park is closed as a result of the federal government shutdown – the budget “crisis” in Washington, not in the WH.

Gov. Jan Brewer in attempt to reopen the Park has OFFERED
TO PAY FOR IT with state money, but her proposal WAS REJECTED Thursday by a PARK OFFICIAL who said that AS LONG AS the federal government remains shut down, such a plan ISN’T AN OPTION.

“I appreciate the support and I THANKED THEM for the offer, but it’s not an offer we can accept,” said park superintendent Dave Uberuaga. (No doubt he is Democrat)

About 2,200 people who work at the Grand Canyon National Park and its hotels are on unpaid leave.

“And that’s not counting the ECONOMIC impact in the gateway communities, all of the related businesses, the bus tours, hiking companies, the jeep tours, all of those associated functions are suffering economically as well,” Uberuaga said.

No doubt he said that proudly because many of those businesses also have OFFERED to chip in TO PAY to reopen the park. (How dare they to do such thing! It’s absolutely not in the Pharaoh plans and less in his EGO-CENTRIC PSYCOPATHIC ‘mind’.) http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/ap/nation/ariz-gov-rejected-in-offer-to-reopen-grand-canyon/article_6781adfc-6392-5ccb-ba7f-a86856847fd4.html

P.S.The DemocRats’ ‘logic’ is a grandiosely impressive mystery.
But do not even doubt an iota that ALL they do is for their unconditional ‘love’ for children, women, and some groups of people. I am sorry MEN, but I am not sure about ‘love’ for you.

and as the democrats keep refusing to negotiate or even talk to the republicans, and keep trying to increase the pain that ordinary, everyday Americans feel with all this nonsense, the more they own this shutdown!
elections are coming. It’s time to remove these “progressives” from their positions of power. And the onlway to do that is to become educated on the issues, decide if the support you’re position, and if they do not, get them the hell out of representing YOU!

      • http://www.rt.com Alondra

Yes, your comment resonances with the article I read today in the Human Events:

It’s THE SEQUESTER all over again.

While the sequestration was enjoying its fifteen minutes of fame a few months ago, I noted how Barack the Brainwasher made the most of the national hand-wringing by using it as a tool to MANIPULATE the American people into associating budget cuts with an end to fun:

“Barry made the ‘tough’ cuts, but he didn’t have to…Obama and friends made darn sure to make cuts to programs that would AFFECT PEOPLE in the most obvious ways, in ways that would make news, in ways that would force a sign to go up so that people associate the words “sequester cuts”
with disappointment and negative feeling. Pavlov’s dogs, American public version.”

Obama grounded the Navy’s Blue Angels, cancelled Fleet
Week, and terminated White House tours, among other things, even though he had the flexibility to make budget cuts …

        He’s doing something similar now.

Obama wants the American people to associate GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN with a ruined vacation, a ruined wedding, a ruined dinner date:

City Tavern, an iconic restaurant in Philadelphia, has been
forced to close its doors and turn away booked parties because of the government shutdown. The restaurant, which opened for the first time in 1773 and was frequented by the nation’s founding fathers, sits inside Independence National Historical Park and the building is owned by the U.S. National Parks Service.

They were allowed to remain open during the last government
        shutdown 17 years ago.

The restaurant was FORCED to cancel booked parties, including one serving 200 visitors from Japan on Wednesday night, for at least the next four days leaving patrons “angry” and “aggravated.” http://www.humanevents.com/2013/10/03/the-precedent-president/

P.S. EVERYTHING this EVIL administration does not by unexpected accident, but by design.

  • WTS/JAY

The Reps pass a bill funding the government (but for Obamacare – which is not supported by a fairly large majority of the American public). The funding bill is rejected by Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the Prez and it is the Reps who are trying to shut down the Government? Give me a break! Is that what you call convoluted logic? Whatever it is called, the Dems have demonstrated a real ability to make folks believe it. That is well beyond their propensity for convincing folks of the efficacy of their “plausible lies”.

    • WTS/JAY

The Repubs are anything but, conservatives, and the Dems are anything but, liberals. Both parties are corporate-fascists, serving the interests of crony-capitalists, and for you to suggest otherwise, that there is a difference between the two, is absolutely ridiculous!

You are highly uninformed. The purpose of the three branches of congress is to protect us from people like obama and the democrats. One balances the other. That’s the way it’s supposed to work. Obama cannot spend us into pre-WWII Germany or we will suffer the same consequences as the Germans did back then. They had hyperinflation, no jobs and no money because of the high payments for WWI which they caused. Obama has been “redistributing” our money and making us poor on purpose. Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker DISOBEYS WH order

The Hill reports: Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker has decided NOT FOLLOW Washington’s order to close several state parks that receive federal funding during the shutdown.

Wisconsin provides MORE THAN HALF of the parks’ funding, so they will remain open with state money.

The state also has opted to DISOBEY a Fish and Wildlife Service order to forbid hunting and fishing on federal lands. State officials said hunting can continue in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

Walker instructed his cabinet to “streamline things and MAKE SURE services are available … It was his direction that let me pursue this further to find out what rights do we have from the state’s perspective regarding contract language and long-standing agreements, and is there something that we’re legally grounded to do,” Wisconsin’s Natural Resources Secretary Cathy Stepp told The Hill.”

    B R A V O (!!!) Gov. Walker. God Bless you.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard had offered to use state
employees to keep Mount Rushmore open, but he has been turned back like Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.

Obama Illegally Shuts Down Hundreds of PRIVATELY FUNDED Parks…

Yesterday, we reported thatObama shut down a park that wasn’t even using government funds. It looks like this was only the very tip of the iceberg.

Now, reports are coming in that the White House directly ordered federal police to force hundreds of parks nationwide to shut down — that were privately funded, privately run, and were often even paying the federal government money.

This means Obama is spending money to shut down parks that earn the feds money — to make the “shutdown” look worse for political reasons. This is basic propaganda, and the media is pretty much ignoring it in order to support him through silence.

From PJ Media, directly quoting one of the managers of the parks:

Warren Meyer of Phoenix, AZ, is owner and president of Recreation Resource Management, Inc. RRM employs about 400-500 camp workers and managers across about a dozen states. It is one of a handful of companies that have been managing national parks and campgrounds as tenants for years, through previous government shutdowns including the last one in 1995-1996. Those previous shutdowns never closed any of the parks managed in this way, but the current shutdown threatens closure.

The campgrounds are self-sufficient and receive no federal funding. No government employees staff or manage the parks. The management companies pay the National Park Service out of the funds they generate from operating the thousands of campgrounds. So the reason for the shutdown is puzzling to Meyer.

Today, he sent a letter to both of his senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, asking for help to keep his parks open.

“My company, based in North Phoenix, operates nearly over 100 US Forest Service campgrounds and day use areas under concession contract. Yesterday, as in all past government shutdowns, the Department of Agriculture and US Forest Service confirmed we would stay open during the government shutdown. This makes total sense, since our operations are self-sufficient (we are fully funded by user fees at the gate), we get no federal funds, we employ no government workers on these sites, and we actually pay rent into the Treasury.”

Notice that last part. The parks not only do not cost the taxpayers any money, they pay funds into the Treasury out of the fees park users pay. Shutting them down will cost the taxpayers money.

How much? Meyer told the Tatler that his parks generate hundreds of thousands of dollars per week. Multiply that across his competitors and the Treasury could lose a few million dollars, in what is essentially free money to the government, over the course of the shutdown.

“A Corporate Trojan Horse”: Obama Pushes Secretive TPPTrade Pact, Would Rewrite Swath of U.S. Laws…

As the federal government shutdown continues, Secretary of State John Kerry heads to Asia for secret talks on a sweeping new trade deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP is often referred to by critics as “NAFTA on steroids,” and would establish a free trade zone that would stretch from Vietnam to Chile, encompassing 800 million people — about a third of world trade and nearly 40 percent of the global economy.

While the text of the treaty has been largely negotiated behind closed doors and, until June, kept secret from Congress, more than 600 corporate advisers reportedly have access to the measure, including employees of Halliburton and Monsanto. “This is not mainly about trade,” says Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch. “It is a corporate Trojan horse.

The agreement has 29 chapters, and only five of them have to do with trade.

The other 24 chapters either handcuff our domestic governments, limiting food safety, environmental standards, financial regulation, energy and climate policy, or establishing new powers for corporations.”

      Arghh.
NAFTA is NOT Free Trade. FREE TRADE is NOT administered by Government panels. FREE TRADE occurs in the ABSENCE of Government meddling.

      WTS/Jay:

I was wondering if anyone on your side would ever bring this up. Glad you did. This is so much more important that 95% of what is talked about on PLD

Hopefully this is something that almost everyone can oppose.. It’s another bad trade program that will speed up the destruction of the middle class and surrender our nations’ sovereignty to international corporations and secret tribunals.

I hope that rightie will go to the link and read it even though it is a leftie site.

It will be interesting to see how many on the right oppose this because big money is backing it.

House to vote on 11 funding bills including child nutrition, FDA, Head Start, FEMA and Intelligence Agencies

UPDATE – FEMA and WIC funding bills pass, 164 Dems vote NAY

There is agreement, just announced by Tom Cole, to provide back pay for furloughed employees. The White House will sign the bill.

The House also is debating a special Rule to allow votes on 10 other spending bills covering a wide variety of the issues about which Democrats and the media have been complaining, including Nutrition for Low Income Women and Children, the FDA and Intelligence Agencies, National Weather service, Head Start, FEMA, and guaranteeing that furloughed employees get back pay:

H.J. Res. 75—Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women and Children Act
    H.J. Res. 76—Nuclear Weapon Security & Non-Proliferation Act
H.J. Res. 77—Food and Drug Safety Act
H.J. Res. 78—Preserving Our Intelligence Capabilities Act
    H.J. Res. 79—Border Safety & Security Act
H.J. Res. 80—American Indian and Alaska Native, Health, Education, and Safety Act
H.J. Res. 82—National Weather Monitoring Act
H.J. Res. 83—Impact Aid for Local Schools Act
H.J. Res. 84—Head Start for Low-Income Children Act
H.J. Res. 85—National Emergency and Disaster Recovery Act
H.R. 3223—Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act

It’s unclear how many of these bill will be voted on today, but based on what’s reported, the Nutrition and National Disaster Recovery Act bills will receive a vote. The others likely will follow in subsequent days, possibly even some on Saturday.

Update 3:30 — The procedural vote on the Rule passed on party lines, so all 11 bills are lined up for a vote, but only the one listed immediately above will be voted on today. The furlough backpay bill likely will be voted on Saturday.

Update 4:35 — FEMA funding passes 247-164 (note the screen cap below was taken just before two late Yay votes came in): WIC – Passes 244-164

I’m too busy to be following the details.
I _really_ love the idea of abandoning omnibus bills and continuing resolutions.
But here is my question: is _any_ attention being given to funding these programs at the correct level? Or is this more or less a piece-meal CR? I’m OK with it, but I would hope that at some point the House would do its job and put some attention towards reducing spending. Lord knows, it is a fertile target space….

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that all of these House Bills are just being put aside by Reid; so there are no Senate votes on these bills that can be used against the Democrat Senators in the upcoming elections.

I somehow doubt those senators will welcome questions about why they just sat there while Reid was blatantly malfeasant.

They know well what is going on and their apparatus, (The fib-o-matic), is operating overtime.

And, this minor government shutdown is the preview of the debt ceiling that will face us in a couple of weeks.

Perhaps it’s time for an all out assault on the White House and Congress by hard working taxpayer/voters to liberate these structures from the current feral occupants…

I am not worried about lo info voters in a non presdidential year.

This is not the first time Boehner has heard from the national media and the polls that no one is paying attention to what is happening on the floor of the House. He is the last member of 1973′s “Gang of Seven” who is still in Congress. They were widely ridiculed inside the beltway for their speeches to a near empty House chamber about the House Banking scandal. It turned out a lot of people outside the beltway were paying attention. All the gang of seven had was C-span and local talk radio shows. There are a lot more ways to get around the national press corps to high information voters today.

BS. No pain no gain. NO back pay. This defeats the purpose of shutting down the govt. They don’t work, they don’t get paid, taxpayer UNION rules. There are 20% of Americans that are unemployed and all safety mechanisms but food stamps have been exhausted.

These government unions put hundreds of million$ in Dimocrat warchests to fight for non-stop increasing benefits.

RICO all banksters, IRS, DOJ, WH bureaucrats and their political hoars.

I agree, it is a terrible mistake to give federal employees what amounts to a free extra paid vacation.

Considering that they are overwhelmingly Democrats, it was the only thing that might make Obama care about who is getting hurt instead of looking for ways to bring more pain.

The “Retroactive Pay Fairness Act” should record the people who forced the unfair event. We will fail to avoid a dysfunctional convergence unless dissociation of risk is addressed. The diverse second-order causes for the progress of dysfunction and corruption in societies are well known and should not be ignored.

I thought most of these spending Bills were passed through regular order months ago, and are sitting on Dingy’s desk-

I wonder why it’s never mentioned that CR budgeting fully funds all of the additional spending added by the democrats when Pelosi was Speaker, plus automatic increases which have been compounded over 4 years.

Wanna know what I would do?

I’d strip out all of the taxes out of the ACA, then pass it.

It should be able to stand on it’s own merits (premiums), and the democrats keep telling us it’s not going to cost taxpayers anything (more), and will actually save money.

Give Obama his precious little Obamacare. Fund it without additional taxes. Maybe, just maybe, Sibelius won’t be able to afford paying her leftist hordes $48/hr to go door to door.

What They Are Saying About Me

“Someone with credibility is saying these things and trying to do something. Thank you.”

“‘Obtuse’ is just about the nicest thing I could say about Jacobson. The problem with being too steeped in any profession is that you run the risk of no longer understanding the difference between reality and your profession’s most obscure minutiae.”

“I just wanted to thank you for writing such a great article on your reasons why you voted for John McCain. I wish everyone would have read that article.”

“Jacobson is doing only what other McCain supporters are starting to do, produce these worthless pieces from some narrow perch in order to cover up their own racist bigotry”

“Cornell and the country need more educators like yourself to keep the flag of reason flying.”

“I take it Jacobson teaches at the cow college part of Cornell, and not the elite section where Coulter attended.”

“Thank you for speaking out… and I hope you avoid repercussions in ‘The People’s Republic of Ithaca.'”

03 October, 2013 / by Website Editor / in Obamacare

    NOLA:

Louisiana’s leading health insurance company reports that not one person has yet successfully enrolled in a newhealth care plan offered through the Affordable Care Act … “It’s a situation that we are coping with,” said John Maginnis, vice president of corporate communications for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, one of four companies offering products through the marketplace … “It was not as intense as we had anticipated,” he said.

    Russian Embassy in Libya attacked
An armed mob broke into the embassy compound in the Libyan capital Tripoli, climbing over walls, breaking down a metal gate and shooting in the air. One of the attackers was killed by the gunfire, and four more were wounded, Libyan officials said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in Thursday’s statement that Moscow decided to evacuate the embassy after Libya’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdelaziz visited its grounds and told the Russian ambassador that Libya was unable to protect the personnel.

Lukashevich added that all the embassy workers and their families safely crossed the border into Tunisia Thursday. He said that the Libyan authorities had promised to protect Russian assets and try to quickly restore conditions for the safe operations of the embassy.

The Foreign Ministry recommends Russian citizens should refrain from visiting Libya.

A Libyan official said Wednesday’s attackers took down the Russian flag that was hanging from the balcony of one of the buildings. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/10/03/russian-embassy-libya-attack/2915101/

P.S. Are they furious at Russia because Russia prevented U.S. military actions against Syria? Was attack approved by the Kenyan?
    Just asking.
