The Sellout of America: Why Our Enemies are Thriving

The Russians are coming. No, T-72 tanks are not plowing through Poland headed for Paris. There is no need for that outdated Soviet doctrine. Not when Russia can patrol near our coastal waters and harvest our most strategic resource—petroleum.

While the Obama administration seems bent on banning offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf, Russia is filling the vacuum, building its energy wealth and stretching its strategic reach all the way to Cuba and the vast oil pools that lay inside the Gulf of Mexico.

The Kremlin’s aim to be the world’s dominant power hasn’t changed since the Soviets tried to smuggle first-strike nuclear warheads onto the island of Cuba. But unlike First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev, today’s supreme leader Vladimir Putin is not gunning to win the arms race. He is out to win the energy race. So far it has been no contest.

Last year marked a milestone for the United States. For the first time since World War II, we pumped less than 5 million barrels of oil per day. We pumped almost twice that much oil 30 years ago when Jimmy Carter was president.

While Carter handed over the Panama Canal, Obama’s mistakes will be far more devastating to the U.S.

“Over the last 25 years, opportunities to head off the current crisis were ignored, missed or deliberately blocked, according to analysts, politicians and veterans of the oil and automobile industries,” wrote The New York Times.

“What’s more, for all the surprise at just how high oil prices have climbed, and fears for the future, this is one crisis we were warned about. Ever since the oil shortages of the 1970s, one report after another has cautioned against America’s oil addiction.”

Yet the Obama administration has blindly ignored the warnings. The president continues to tout clean energy over offshore oil, even though seven out of 10 Americans want to drill for it.

Obama’s position on offshore drilling is as cloudy as the deep warm waters of the Gulf. As a senator he opposed it. As a candidate, Obama seemed to support it. But as president, Obama has stifled efforts to expand it.

This month The Washington Post said it now knows the president’s true intentions: “Hidden deep within the president’s budget proposal released on Feb. 1 are numbers that reveal his true intentions. The budget shows that revenues collected from new offshore leasing will decline over the next five years—from $1.5 billion in 2009, to only $413 million in fiscal 2015. If the president planned on expanding offshore drilling, revenues would be increasing, not decreasing. This budget clearly indicates that he has no intention of opening additional areas to drilling off our nation’s coast.”

Enter Russia—a nuclear mega power with a growing choke-hold on fossil fuel supplies. Last summer Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin signed four contracts securing exploration rights in Cuba’s economic zone in the Gulf.

Havana says there may be 20 billion barrels of oil along its coast. That’s the total remaining conventional oil reserves of the U.S.

The Cuban deal will cement the Kremlin as the dominant petroleum power in the world. Russia already has three times more oil reserves than the U.S. Russia also has the largest natural gas reserves in the world—four times more than Canada and eight times more than Saudi Arabia.

“Vladimir Putin’s Russia is assembling an economic machine powerful enough to force Europe, the U.S. and Asia to their knees,” wrote The First Post. “It does not involve uranium, explosives or suicide bombers, but the natural resources that power the global economy. Russia will soon exert such sway over the supply of oil and natural gas that the OPEC crisis of the mid-1970s could seem trivial.”

Half of Russia’s state revenues and more than one-third its exports are derived from petroleum. Clearly Putin isn’t worried about cleaning up the environment (just one reason world carbon reduction agreements are useless and dangerous), but in projecting power. To that end Russia has surpassed Saudi Arabia as the world’s number one oil producer. The Kremlin also has its hands on the kill-switch to critical natural gas supply lines to Europe and Asia.

Meanwhile America’s dependence on oil is growing just as its availability is shrinking. The last time the U.S. produced such little oil Truman was President. And I can’t find one oilman in 100 that thinks the decline in American oil production is going to be arrested. As one Canadian oil company president said to me: “U.S. production in the lower 48 is falling into a black hole.”

What the Kremlin understands and what the White House doesn’t is that there is nothing on the horizon to replace petroleum. In fact, every four years, the U.S. consumes a cubic mile of oil. This has the energy equivalent of:

  • Four of the giant Three Gorges dams, cranking at full capacity for 50 years.
  • More than 30,000 1.65-megawatt wind turbines, cranking for 50 years.
  • A whopping 100,000 1-megawatt coal-fired electric plants, going full-bore for 50 years.
  • Fifty-two giant nuclear electric plants, running at 100 percent capacity for 50 years.

There aren’t in enough windmills or solar panels now or in 20 years from now that will significantly offset this demand.

What It Means
America is headed for an unmitigated disaster. Russia is bent on becoming the dominant petro-power of the world. Putin has gone so far as to say his country is an “energy superpower” and he has repeatedly demonstrated he will use his nation’s growing energy wealth as a blunt instrument of Kremlin foreign policy.

While Obama fetters away opportunities to drill for more oil, Putin is busy outflanking America on all sides. Russia is busy building closer relations with Iran and Pakistan, America’s key enemy and ally on the War on Terror. And in our own hemisphere Putin is about to meet with Venezuelan President and Uncle Sam hater, Hugo Chavez.

As for Cuba and its oil, it is just the latest energy domino to fall. There will be many more as Russia aims to dominate America, not with armies but with oil.

    Well, I assure you the deep warm water of the gulf are not cloudy. Go check it out for yourself. It’s clear as bath water when the wind lays and the surface turns into a mirror. It’s a rare sight to behold it’s true but happens late spring.

    And the Obama administration is opening up the Eastern gulf to exploration and with hopes of more to follow. He’s one year into a 4 year term with ZERO bipartisan support ( well that’s not completely true) wishing to acknowledge GOP public servants that hold the American people in higher regard then their party affiliation. Men & women with some degree of courage and sense of duty. I honor them. I thank them.

            Both parties of our government had to collateralize its debt somehow, and they hit upon the plan of quietly setting aside huge tracts of American land with their mineral rights in reserve to cover the outstanding debts. But the government couldn’t very well admit that they were apportioning off chunks of the United States to the holders of foreign debt. So, they invented the Environmental Protection Agency and passed draconian environmental laws which served to grab land with vast natural resources away from the owners and lock it away, and even more, prove to the holders of the foreign debt that US citizens were not drilling. mining, or otherwise developing those resources. From that day to this, as the government sinks deeper into debt, the government grabs more and more of OUR land, declares it a wilderness or “roadless area” or “heritage river” or “wetlands” or any one of over a dozen other such obfuscated labels, but in the end the result is the same. We The People may not use the land, in many cases are not even allowed to enter the land.
            This is not about conservation, it is about collateral. OUR land is being stolen by the government and used to secure loans with China to fight wars the government really had no business starting in the first place. Given that the government cannot get out of debt, and is collateralizing more and more land to avoid foreclosure, the day is not long off when “We The People” of the United States will one day wake up and discover WE are no longer citizens, but tenants.
            In short, the United States is in deep trouble. We have lost a huge amount of our manufacturing capacity, and those products we still make do not compete well on the world market, despite the steady devaluation of the dollar. In short we have vast debts to pay and little to pay them with. Like the foolish farmer we have sold the machinery that allowed us to prosper, and we stand around shaking our investment portfolios back and forth in the hopes that the money inside will somehow grow all by itself. It won’t. It never has. It would seem “WE” can’t trust the government to look out for “our” best interests.
            Perhaps this is a result of some past deal we have made with Russia. How do we find out?

            Thank God we have a poser in chief who is not constitutionally qualified to sign any of this into law. Congress is not able to pass any new laws because they are not able to acquire the signature of a bona fide President, rendering all such legislation legally VOID;
            Obama cannot legally sign any law, including the present health care debacle! It takes more than the signature of an illegal alien to make a law lawful.

            Here is where you are missing it… Obama could care less about polls, opinions, the press or anything else, its about his agenda. This is about “fundamentally Changing America.” This push is to push for more legislation that will tax the wealthy I.E. Cap and trade, Healthcare reform, etc. and give it to those who are “Less fortunate.” It sounds great, kind and generous, but he is being generous with other peoples money, and it should be a crime. If we want to give to the poor then let us give to the poor. THe problem is it takes away incentive to work, its what happened in The USSR, sure no one was without a job, and if you were not working, they would find something for you to do. Ultimately it caused the demise of Communism…

            These things should be undertaken by the states, not the STATE, it is not the responsibility of the FED to dictate to us and tax us to death.

            Remember Obama said His plan will “Necessarily increase the price” of these things…

            Its a political game.

            We all know that Obama is the only person who counts. He has power somewhere because he became president. Which he had votes bought and people going from one state to another to vote for him. We don’t have a clue as to what is working behind the scenes. We do know that his goal is to be the world leader. He is marking off his spot as we sit here and talk about what he has done and what is wanting to do. We need to have a clean sweep in our government. I am wanting to see the American people do a impeachment. We have the power because the Constitution allows us to have the power. So why isn’t any one starting to swing it that way. We don’t want Biden for President nor do we want Pelosi either. If we continue to sit by and do our Tea Party’s and talk about what is going on in our country the Russians will be in our back yards telling us that we have to get out because They now own us. What is it going to be people. Talk or are we going to proceed to action. We built this country to be free of England to be Free of slavery for all men. To live our life as free men and women to stand up for what is right and good and be the God fearing country that was founded by our forefathers. We need to start that stand and we need to start letting DC know that we are not going to take it any more. We allow them to continue we will not be allowed to do this later. Standing firm, Standing tall, Standing for the right and good of our country. If we are not going to do this then let us bring home all of our fighting forces and allow them to surrender and lay down their arms because they won’t have a free country to come home to. So what did they fight for, what did they loose their friends and what did the fallen loose their lives for.

When I first heard of obama’s turnaround my first that was, “What is his real motive?” He doesn’t want another fiasco with cap & trade like his healthcare reform because he knows if it’s going to take another year+ he won’t get it passed (elections in Nov.) and he can’t have that. He needs to pretend he’s doing something republicans want to gain their support. I’m sure he has available to him all the info he needs to start drilling in North Dakota where we all know they biggest oil field in the world exists (Bakkan) but he’s so against us being independent that he’s said it’s okay to begin exploring offshore. In essence, he IS doing everything in his power (which has now grown with the passage of obamacare)to weaken this nation because he’s anti-American just like all of his friends like Ayers and the muslims are.

            JeffH, Quite frankly Jeff, I didn’t get involved in politics until about two years ago, I watched it from a distance. NOw when I say involved, I mean read and get informed. My husband would be better suited to BE in politics__I’m too hot headed__I’f opposition would get in my face, I’d have a knee jerk reaction and it wouldn’t be pretty.___Lol__ Getting involved for me is, letting family and friends in on what I’ve learned. I write fantasy and Illustrate also, I’d still like to make and attempt to write about the kid, who used to do my nails. He born in Vietnam and lived there until he was ten. But his memory of the communist life is amazing. I think it would be eye opening.

            I have learned something about people in the last two year I’d never thought true. Many people are just “sick” with a head full of hate and poison and not worth the bother to put out if they caught on fire.

The truly unfortunate and unpatriotic part, however, is that those, who endeavor to “take down” ANY presidency, contribute to the decline and harm of our own nation. No party affiliations should EVER lead one to conspire against the well-being of his/her own country. The general populace is floundering while such people play their fiddles. If “Rome burns”, so do we all. Our nation and our own people deserve better than this.

We should kiss the feet of those elected leaders who want to enjoy the fruits of our labor. What right do they have to be compensated for making our lives easier?

            To both Davids: Please remember that the majority of our citizenry voted for change during the last election. Am I happy with some of the changes that have been made? No. But, that does not give me – or anyone else – the right to threaten violence against any member of Congress or any other person or institution. If I am not pleased with the results of the election, my recourse is at the ballot box. Meanwhile, ALL of our elected representatives have the responsibility and DUTY to perform their job in a statesmanlike manner, rather than becoming recalcitrant and allowing America to go down the tubes. We should all expect that from them. It is our country and her future, after all, which is at stake.

He’s hiding his true intents, but keeps lieing to calm people’s fears about what he’s up to. He parses words and phrases, so we hear what he wants us to hear (but meaning something else), constantly improving his image.

            He’s a megalomaniac – always burnishing his halo and speaking in the first person as though he’s the great doer of all that gets done. Just look at Kim Jung Ill. N. Korea’s “magnificent, exalted leader” whose regime allows no criticism. Obama could hardly contain his fury at Fox’s reporter, Bret Baer. Bret just expected Barak to answer the question.

            He has fronted legislation that is unConstitutional and anti-Bill of Rights which breaks his vow to protect and defend those documents. That is an impeachable offense!

            He’s led all that and much more which I’ll leave to others to recount. Are you so spoiled and naive that you think someone doing those things is ?HARMLESS? Or that a free nation can’t be taken down by a devilish kniver? Or do you think he’s pure as driven snow? Does he have a reason for going so hard at the CHRISTIAN militia like the left is doing?             I must respond to many of the comments made here. There are so many misconceptions, that I hardly know where to begin.

            First, the assertion was made that Obama and company are socialists, and that their plans for this nation constitute socialism. I can see that there is a great misunderstanding of the term “socialism” or what a socialistic country looks like. In socialism, ownership and control of the means of production, capital, land, etc. are vested in the community as a whole. This is not the system that we have – or even could develop into – within any brief period of time, such as a term of office. Do you own your own land? Do you have the right to hold your own money? Does the community (i.e., government) own the private company for which you work? Does it control the means of production where you work? (I don’t mean merely regulate, but actually control.) If not, you do not live in a socialist nation.

            I know what a socialist nation looks like. Members of my mother’s own family lived under one in Germany and Austria, as did my husband’s family in Czechoslovakia. Their lives were a world and a universe apart from the freedoms we have here. They owned next to nothing, because the state controlled it all, primarily for the sake of the few at the top, the ruling elite, if you will. Corruption was rampant, and the proletariat suffered at the hands of the few in power. For my German relatives, this did not begin to change until the wall was torn down in the 80′s. Even today, the full equalization of west and east has not occurred. When you speak of “socialism”, please first understand what it is you are talking about. Do not simply repeat words and phrases you have heard, but, rather, do some research into the topic for yourself. You will be startled at the vast difference from what you are referring to here as “socialism”.

            Richard likened this administration to that of Hitler and Stalin. That too is an inappropriate comparison. My father fought in the war againet Hitler. Where do you see the wholesale slaughter of people that occurred under those regimes?

            Moreover, our nation has always enjoyed the fruits of services, which would fit under your definition of “socialism”: police, fire, and ambulance services; our post office (established by Benjamin Frankin – not someone I would call a socialist); our schools, social security, and medicare, just to name a few. Our park system is held in trust by the government for public use. One such national park displays the busts of four of our finest presidents. I cherish these parts of our society.

            One last thing. With regard to the redistribution of wealth in this country, who has benefited most from the tax cuts of the last administration? It was not the poor or the middle class. It was the richest 1% of our population. Would you consider Eisenhower, Nixon, or Ford as “socialists” relative to the redistribution of wealth? During those administrations, the top tax rate on the richest Americans was 90%. Those taxes were used to provide for all of the roads, bridges, parks, and other services that we all enjoy today.

            Beyong these things, please do not confuse socialism with reform or regulation, which is intended for the benefit of the country and her citizens. One person said that Obama has undertaken socialization of all of our major industries. That is not correct. He has attempted to introduce regulation to our financial and and health care industries, but those regulations are and have been sorely needed. Or, did you think the credit default swap debacle and the disasters inflicted upon this nation’s economy through unmitigated risk-taking were a good idea? Finance, the insurance industry (both of which have been taking advantage of our fellow citizens for years), and the auto industry do not constitute “every major institution”. Further, if regulation is necessary to protect those of us who have little power from those who hold most of the power, then I approve of it, particularly when those rich institutions have been robbing from the poor at record rates over the past few decades and when their activities have jeopardized our entire economy. (Or, perhaps you are completely satisfied with the amount in premiums your health insurer demands from you.) A civilized society needs some regulation or it will devolve into anomie. There is an aspect of greed in even the purest of hearts. Because we cannot completely regulate ourselves, we must agree, as a society, to set up laws, which regulate it for us. That simply is the nature of civilization.

            Another person asked, Who threatened violence?” Have you not read the papers? Did you not watch the news? Gun-toting “patriot” groups, like the latest “Christian” militia group, which sought to overthrow our own government. This kind of behavior is born out of emotionally-charged rhetoric and hate-filled vitriol. I have found this kind of rhetoric here. (And, before you ask, I AM a 2nd Amendment advocate, and I DO own a gun, which I believe is our constitutional right.) It worries me when I see hatred and emotion hold sway over reason and civil discourse. It very often leads to violence.

Healthcare and student loan takeover brings the fed gov up to 48% control over the economy. Cap & Trade is NOT another environmental regulation such as acid rain control, ie SO2 control. You and I exhale the “pollutant” that they want to regulate. Cap/trade is definately a take over of the energy intensive private industry.

            Once this is done, those giant union ran companies will be no more….that is unless they are continued to be subsidized…

            Do you own your own land? Yes, as long as I pay my increasing property taxes or the government does not want to condemn the property for development or the “public good”.

            Do you have the right to hold your own money? Yes, but if I do not pay my taxes they come and take me to jail or rob my bank account. They also have been devaluing my dollar and making it worth less and less.

            Does the community (i.e., government) own the private company for which you work? Let see, GM and AIG comes to mind.

            Does it control the means of production where you work? Of course, they have caused the head of GM to resign and have sent in government goons. They control the post office and Amtrak.

            The government regulates and controls the Post Office, Amtrak, the power grid, shorelines and lake front. Local government in King County Washington controls every aspect of your property if you own acreage. You cannot clear or cut down trees without permits. They control the shorelines and lake fronts – no bulkheads to keep your property from eroding, no clearing of brush and weeds, no dredging, etc.

            As for tax cuts from the “last administration” here’s the breakdown:

            The marriage penalty went away. That was a big one and leveled the playing field between single and married.

            The 10% tax bracket was widened so it was expanded by $2000 for joint filers and $1000 for single filers.

            the child credit was increased to $1000 from $600.

            Alternative minimum tax relief was increased to $58,000 from $49,000 for joint filers and to $40,250 from $35,750 for singles.

            If you are an investor and putting money away for retirement – it helped everyone except those monies held in traditional retirement funds.

            Small businesses got a increase in the first year depreciation which allowed business to deduct 100% of new and used business assets.

            As for taxpayers:
            If you made $30,000 your tax cut was 11.5% and 27.0% with a taxable income of $16,900
            If you made $50,000 you got a tax cut of 4.2% or 42.3% tax cut with taxable income of $29,850
            If you made $100,00 you got a tax cut of 8.3% or 19.3% tax cut with taxable income of $81,950.
            If you made $300,000 you got a tax cut of 9.94%. on taxable income of $251,643.

            The jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 was good for everyone including investors, married couples with children, high-income folks and small business. (Remember that high-income folks pay 93% of all taxes in this country and small business creates more jobs than large corporations).

            ACORN
            Losing NY-23 candidate Doug Hoffman became the latest in an increasingly long line of conservative politicians to blame his problems on ACORN yesterday despite the complete lack of evidence the organization played any role in his defeat.

            The Republican base is with him though. PPP’s newest national survey finds that a 52% majority of GOP voters nationally think that ACORN stole the Presidential election for Barack Obama last year, with only 27% granting that he won it legitimately. Clearly the ACORN card really is an effective one to play with the voters who will decide whether Hoffman gets to be the Republican nominee in a possible repeat bid in 2010.

            Belief in the ACORN conspiracy theory is even higher among GOP partisans than the birther one, which only 42% of Republicans expressed agreement with on our national survey in September.

            Overall 62% of Americans think Obama legitimately won the election to only 26% who think ACORN stole it for him, as few Democrats or independents buy into that line of thinking.

            The organization is generally unpopular though, with only 11% of voters viewing it favorably to 53% with an unfavorable opinion and 36% without one. The only politician we’ve polled on this year with comparably bad favorably numbers is John Edwards. The constant harping on ACORN by Republican politicians may sound nuts in some circles, but it certainly has hurt the organization’s image and it looks like the anti-ACORN message may resonate with a decent portion of the American electorate. ACORN is probably well overdue for a re-branding.

            If you stop and consider , the GOP enjoys (or has enjoyed) a hard line 28% of the popular vote ~~ regardless! and these people “ALWAYS” vote, That means Mc Cain/ Palin only need to capture 23% of the loose, up for grabs votes.

            They only needed to convince 23% of voters they were the flavor of the day for a 51% majority. They didn’t do it !

            Now back to the thread,

            In the next 50 years I see a new generation of fuel. Mankind will advance beyond combustion, of creating controlled fossil fuel explosions to do his bidding. It’s coming at us like a train coming down the tracks. But application will eat up another 10 to 20 years. So we are talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 years away. ~ This fuel will be abundant, clean and extremely effective with very little waste.

            But the whole world won’t get there all at once and between now and then there are many issue to confront. Cost, availability,cutting into social -economic issue, global divides and disparity . Wars very possible.

            The snow cap of Kilimanjaro is now all but melted away. There more water in the atmosphere then mankind has grow accustom to. ~ Flooding more common place, The US Navy has budget large sums of money to address rising water levels at facilities world wide.

            Where this is man’s effects or a natural cycle is really not the issue. We know we can control it to degrees ~ cleaner fuel is better fuel and that where we are headed. Which bring us to making do with what we have at the moment and Cap& Trade.

            Penalties is what makes people do things they’d rather not. I’m not convinced the world is ready for cap and trade and look for other solutions.

            But what ever we do, it needs to be soon.

Most of our elected officials DO work only for themselves, their friends, and the big-moneyed interests which helped put them in office – and that is true of Republicans and Democrats alike. Until the electorate truly understands the amount and source of corruption within our government, we cannot expect anything other than what we currently have. Nor can we hope to regain control of our government, which has sadly slipped away from the average American citizen to those with the most campaign contributions. Our very democracy is hanging by a thread, while the “military-industrial complex”, about which President Eisenhower warned us, has coopted it. What we have is a corporatocracy, run by the multinational corporations (in which I, along with many other citizens through retirement funds, etc. are invested), which have sent more and more American jobs overseas, while our own citizens cannot find work. These corporations call the shots with respect to our elected officials, no longer the electorate.

            I honestly believe that these corporate powers try to keep us at war with ourselves, so that we will not notice their coopting of our government until it is too late. Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives have been at each other’s throats while more and more jobs go offshore. No one seemed to notice until the situation became so bad, that whole states are now in a condition of near depression. Corporations do not owe a national allegiance to this country or to any other, but only to the profit they make, no matter which country provides that profit. This situation is very dangerous. Eisenhower knew very well of what he spoke.

            American jobs did not begin going overseas in the currrent administration. They began going overseas in droves during the administration of a president, whom I knew and loved: Ronald Reagan. As I look back now, I can see that the de-regulation of so much of our governmental controls over corporations began in earnest back then, and that is, in large part, what has lead to the near depression we are currently experiencing. It is difficult for me to admit that. I was a huge Reagan supporter. My mother was a delegate for him. But, he was fallible, like the rest of us, and he made some very big mistakes. I believe that he loved this country and he did not intend it harm. But, that is what has occurred as a result of many of his policies with respect to de-regulation. Tax cuts for corporations, even when they moved their production facilities overseas, went a long way toward decimating this economy. Not only did our jobs go overseas, but our money did, too. No other result could have obtained but the one we currently have, but many of us – including me – could not see that at the time. Our own electorate must understand the gravity of this when we vote. We cannot and should not, for our own country’s sake, keep people in office for more than a term or two – regardless of party. This is where we can begin to fight against the corporate interests, which have bought our politicians and our own nation: AT THE BALLOT BOX.

            Our founding fathers never had “career” senators and representatives in mind, when they formed this great nation. They served – and I DO mean SERVED – their public and their country with their time in office and then went home. They did not intend for anyone to feed at the public trough for their entire life. Lifetime (or near so) terms in office cannot lead to anything but abuse, power-grabbing, and corruption.

            Our current politicians, for the most part, have become a spoiled ruling elite, who are bought and paid for by corporate interests and who could not possibly begin to comprehend – much less empathize with – the problems of the average American citizen. They “serve” only to feed their own interests. Again, I say: this is NOT what our founding fathers intended. I propose that we start a thorough housecleaning, beginning with this next election, and that we vote out EVERY incumbent. And, we continue doing that with every election cycle, until there is not much point for a lobbyist to try to buy an elected official, because he/she will most likely not be in office to do them any favors beyond the one term. Until our elected officials are cut loose from their corporate ownership, America will never become once again the shining city on a hill she was intended to be.

      I agree that we should look for alternate sources, unfortunately until the sources of oil and Natural Gas which exist are more or less depleted, the price will never go up for alternative sources to be viable. The markets should dictate it, I want to think its a EU country that is figuring out the hard way that for every green job they create they have lost two regular jobs… We do not need that type of philosophy in the US…

      We have an abundance of Coal in the US, and we can actually make Gasoline from Coal… Why we are not talking about that is beyond me… I suspect it has to do with who developed the process in WWII. But the technology is there.

      Did you know that he and EPA are trying to stop nat gas companies from using frac-sand, which is used to let the gas perm from all directions, once the well has been fractured with 10k psi? By not allowing this to happen more wells will have to be drilled to capture the same amount of gas that one would utilizing frac-sand. Does that sound environmentally responsible?

      Now does any of this make since? No. The answer is: America is being sold out and allowed to collapse from within.

        I believe that Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant #1 came on line in 1990 and #2 came on line 1993. Texas is currently planning two more reactors at that facility and one in north Texas and another one in south Texas. Texas also has the most windmills and is catching solar in the US. So I’d say Texas is a bit above the curve on power generation.

      I live in a state where we can shop for power – it’s interesting that we don’t really have adequate distribution lines for wind power and both solar and wind are more expensive than natural gas and coal plant generation. We also have nuclear which is closer but still more expensive.

      As for oil – have you even heard about the Bakken? Read up – it’s hugh but being tied up by the Environmentalists.

    The biggest issue of off shore drilling is environmental damage. General contractors are required to have a bond set aside for any potential disputes with customer’s. Why not do the same with the oil industry. Require a LARGE bond that is immediately available for cleanup and liable for ownership claims of damage.

      Probably not a bad idea. The cost of this bond should be pretty low since the risk of a spill is pretty small nowadays. On the other hand, I don’t think you can compel foreign-based oil companies to do this so long as they are working in international waters.

        I think you’re dreaming. I can see no way that our current debt and deficit levels won’t impact our economy in a negative way. Adding significant additional taxes to the economy will keep it from growing. On top of that, we’re likely to see the value of the dollar decline in respect to other major currencies like the Chinese Yuan, further driving up the cost of doing business in this country, driving down profits and additional manufacturing moves out of the country. Obvious to most people, the new health care law will only add to this economic misery and drive us into insolvency much quicker. The C.B.O.’s estimates were hokey because the assumptions provided them by the Democrats were hokey. Social Security and Medicare were at significant risk before the current health care law, but now it’s almost a foregone conclusion that they will be extinct within the next 10 years, due to this health care law and a belief that we can spend any excess revenue (SS) now, continue to add immigrants to the system that haven’t paid into the system, and raise taxes later on a declining workforce. Logic just doesn’t support that conclusion.

Clinton also claimed that national debt was reduced by $360 billion during his last 3 years ($69B+$123B+$230B = $422B, not $360B). There was never a surplus, in fact from a $360B reduction in national debt in FY1998-FY2000 there was an increase of $281B. This is verified by accessing the US Treasury website. If you go there you will find that in NO YEAR did the debt go down, nor did Clinton leave Bush a surplus. Clinton left Bush with a deficit of $17.9B for FY2000 and Clinton’s last budget increased the deficit to $133.29B.

        But I guess if you say something enough it becomes the truth huh?

First of all, my husband checked into the so-called “chipping.” He says this comes from sites that are somewhat twisted in their beliefs. He also said some of these sites proclaim belief in Jesus Christ and then turn around and promote forms of dissent. I believe my husband. I rely on his word and common sense. And I have to add–how can people proclaim faith in Jesus Christ and then turn around and then bounce off the walls?
          He also told me Obama has lifted the ban on offshore drilling. My statement about this is: During the campaign the Republicans were screeching drill, baby, drill. Now it appears some don’t want it. What is going on here? Why the turnaround? I am not siding with Obama, but isn’t this what everybody wanted? Won’t this benefit America? Won’t it create jobs? Because he has done this the environmentalists will come down on him far worse than anyone can imagine, including the infamous Al Gore and others.
          Militias–sure, there may be some good decent militia groups here in the U.S. But the one in Michigan is a bad one according to my relatives. And I believe my relatives.
          I am to the point where I do not even want to vote anymore.

If it is, I can’t believe Republicans would be against it unless there’s a catch somewhere, which is what I expect. I’ll bet this turns out to be a political trick after all the details become known. However, until then, I shouldn’t be too harsh. It is possible, although remote I think, that Obama is actually trying to move to the center on this issue. Let’s get the facts and judge him accordingly.

            Even if there were NO “strings attached” to the lifting of the offshore drilling ban, there will still be lies and all kinds of hell to pay. And if there ARE “strings attached” there will definitely be hell to pay. Either way, it appears to be a no-win situation. My husband will certainly check this out. He has plenty of time to get to the truth of the matter. I do hope it is on the “up and up” but who knows. We need the jobs, we need to quit depending on foreign oil. The reason o is being called a liar concerning offshore drilling is because he plans to use it to get a few of the progressive republicans (Graham-SC) to vote for cap & Trade. If he gets cap/trade, there will be no need for offshore drilling because our economy will be contracted beyond recognition. If we all become welfare recipients; who needs the oil? No one will be driving to work.

          It’d be nice if everyone looked beyond their nose. First, Obama is a pragmatist, being very pragmatic with all his decisions. You can expect him to base his decision as he sees road conditions. There is no straight line to where we need to go, but it may very well bend , curve sometimes seeming to go backward. It is a process of assimilating data as it changes from report to report.

          We need a bridge fuel and we’ve got it ~ it’s been stored for us.

          Every month , new improved , bigger and better devices help us find it. ~The oil & gas industry has been “resounding” our coastlines for several years. Once they complete a sounding, once a New devise is created and becomes available they do it again and again. Much like Obama they too are pragmatism, changing they minds as more data becomes available.

          Much like America’s car industry, oil & gas needs to stay busy doing what they do best. It’s jobs! it’s future resources. It’s American and now it’s time to break it out. If it’s brought up too early, it stiffen new R&D. Brought up too late, it hurts us in other ways.

          There is no big mystery, it was a card in his hand as President he could play at any time. As the leader of the nation, I’d expect no less of him. That the GOP was clamming “drill babe drill” just a few months ago, I agreed with them. I thought it time as well and I still do. I failed to see it as much of a campaign issue however and was looking for something bigger and better from the Mc Cain/Palin ticket. The chanting failed to amuse, having more of a lynch mob atmosphere to it.

          That Obama is actually leading the nation and changing thing up, seems to upset some people. I think maybe they have a predisposition to being upset before Obama arrived on the scene. To initially invade Iran with a mere 20,000 ground troops should have upset them, but I guess they were out buying tiny plastic flags or something.

          I know I was quite upset with the prior administration and often spoke my apprehension. That it’s now been proven I was correct, offers me no joy. But I feel good about this administration. One term? fine with me ~ There’s no time to worry about popularity, the more Obama and Nancy are hated by the “noisy ones’ the better I feel about it.

    It makes me so angry every time I turn on the news and Obama and his administration keep coming up with ideas to cut Americans off at the knees and take our money away from us..The future of America is at stake and I hope the individual States rise up and don’t play along with Obamas plans. The only way to live the good life is to be an illegal alien. When they are legalized, still no one will make them pay taxes, or insurance or for school. What’s wrong with working for a living and getting the benefits of your labor? Handing over your retirement and your children s future to the Federal govt. is so completely wrong. I can see why so many have given up looking for work, they’ll just have to turn over most of their earnings to Uncle Sam. Obama has weakened our defenses and kissed all our ememies behinds trying to be best buddies. He and his Administration are working against the United States, not for it. The most amazing thing is the Presidents arrogance. He truly believes he is so wonderful and Gods gift to mankind. The other Countries are laughing at us because they know he is taking all the power away from the U.S. I can only hope that Acorn doesn’t put him back for another term and that we can undo all the damage he has done to America.

    Interesting article. I’m glad that someone has the presence of mind to keep exploring for new sources of oil. Obviously, Russia is banking on growing demand for oil and gas over time, not depleting demand like our government is planning on. At any rate, drilling by anyone should help keep the price of oil and its products down at reasonable price levels, and make it harder for alternative sources to prosper. I only wish the U.S. government didn’t prevent our domestic companies from drilling on, and offshore U.S. lands. However, is there anything keeping our U.S.-based oil companies from drilling in international waters or engaging in deals that would allow them to drill in foreign nations, like Russia is doing in Cuba?

      I just attended two receptions for people that are running for the House seat for my area. I have learned a lot by these meetings and it’s good to see someone actually face to face and ask questions. One came across as a polished politician with canned answers, the other was passionate and honest and that’s who I will vote for. I think it’s not so hard to do this and more and more people need to actually see and hear who they plan on voting for. So – did you do any of that? Or are you wearing out your armchair?

Our enemies are thriving because we’ve allowed lobbyists from a vast array of special interest groups to pimp our legislators and administrators like they’re 5 dollar ho(s).       Conservatives like to put the blame on environmentalists, but the truth is refineries have not been outlawed, only required to be made cleaner. But if oil companies can put the blame on environmentalist and at the same time create an artificial bottleneck that they have control of, it is a win-win for the oil companies.

    We should work on alternative source of energy that’s a no brainer.

    But on the other hand we should exploit the current resources we have. Biofules, electric cells, hydrogen are going to be the fuels of the future, but any idea how much pollution and carbon units are used to make car batteries? Its obscene. Oh how much energy and resources it takes to compress hydrogen and other biofuels. We need to explore these methods and make them more efficient.

    One of the rally cries of the leftist enviro nuts is that if we drill for oil we will have oil spills and kill sea otters and dolphins. I guess its ok for russia to drill not so far off our costs and let them create the oil spills. And you think they care if they pollute our waters?

    Open up anwar, open up the coasts and lets get the oil we have stockpile it, sell it, we need cash to dig us out of this giant pit of debt and mega inflation the federal government has put on our backs and cheaper gas at the pump or selling oil to other countries or just building our our stockpiles would help in some ways so we can afford the trillion dollar health care fiasco, and the 2 or 3 trillion to fix social security and medicare.

    The federal government as a whole will not be satisfied until our economy will collapse. The more they regulate, the more they spend, the more cash they print to cover their spending, and the more they nanny us and business the worse our economy will get. Meanwhile china holds our debt what if they called it in tomorrow? You dont need a war to defeat the united states, you just need to topple our economy. UBL saw this and you do not think china and other countries that do not like us see that?

    And so of you leftist wackos want an emperor or king? how do you keep a dictator in power? KGB, gistapo tactics, spying on your citizens, disarming them, brainwashing the youth.     For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that Congress members could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn’t pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered…in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn’t seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don’t care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

    This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.

    Be aware! The gov’t. is in desperate need of money. They are slowly loosing the lease rental $s for the current off-shore drilling rights.     We have been living in a fairy world for some time……maybe since Eisenhower. It is going to take a major change in the fall elections this year. But you must elect, in the primaries, those who will return Constitutional Gov’t. to our country. Some of us worked and donated $s back in ’94 to change things and by 2001 we were being given the big one by that party. I say that while serving as a county chairman in my county on the Republican side. But do remember John McCain’s attempts to bring along some Democrats to his way of thinking and now we have Lindsey Graham trying the same thing. IT WILL NOT BE EASY TO CORRECT THE BEAST. Many people I know and were involved with trying to get Ron Paul the Republican nomination we very dismayed at their failure to do so. It will be a long and arduous task.

    Two years ago it became clear that Americans would pay somewhere between $3.50 and $4.00/gallon for petrol. After that they became testy. “Mr. Valentine set the Price.” In 2007 while living in the UK we were paying 1 pound five for a litre. I believe that there are about 3.75 litres to the gallon and at an exchange rate of .50 to the pound we were paying the equivalent of $7.50/gallon. Don’t scream at me if the litre to gal. calculation is incorrect. It is close enough. Our only saving grace was we drove a Prius which got between 45-60 mpl.

    We also lived in Russia and I can tell you from my experience Putin is playing for keeps. They are still seething over the Clinton administration selling their people a false prophesy. They could never be like the US because they had no system of courts and no property rights. I have been gone from there for 10 years but all the Russians 40 years and younger want what we have in the West. Those over 55 years still support Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky and all the others who killed so many Russians. They will support Putin. Don’t believe what you see and hear on TV locally.

    Why don’t we take a cue from the REAL American Natives who inhabited this land long before US “civilized” folk took hold of it and started to deplete its resource and beauty for our own selfish gain & comfort. The Indians made the most of everything gifted them by this land and they had to live in harmony with our Creator’s world in order to sustain long term growth and sovereignty.
    Our enemies aren’t the Russians or Hugo Chavez or Saudi Arabia, they aren’t even the opposite political affiliation; we are our own worst enemy – we consume way more than what we replenish or contribute to stewarding this country while respecting the planet.
    How come we don’t hear about conservatism or living within our means much anymore? I guess it’s easier to fuel our habits, addictions, and lust for comfort and dominance rather than sacrifice and plan a better future for the “United States”.
    Just think about the simple rule of supply and demand. If we begin to alter our lifestyle so that we become less dependent on oil, the Russians and the Saudis will be left treading water and pounding sand – what a power base for their growing economies? They would have no choice but to switch gears and get on board with cleaning the planet up and re-gentrifying God’s creation so everyone can share in its beauty. Remember that to Master is to Serve and to Serve is to go the extra mile for unity (not uniformity) by using our diversity, ingenuity and becoming United. Once more we might steward the world to a better place without using an outdated win-lose paradigm. The beauty of our Declaration of Independence and subsequently our Constitution is that it was developed and established to live, breath and grow keeping our sovereignty united with common cause, yet affording all its citizenry the freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, responsibly.

    Did it ever occur to all you rednecks with three plus kids that you are accelerating towards a cliff in your big V8 pickups with a gun rack in the back window? It is not so much about drilling for oil and natural gas as the fact that these are finite resources and yes, clean energy cannot replace the easy energy found in oil. The easy oil will be gone and the methods to extract oil and gas from tar sands and shale formations have devastating environmental consequences. That means that all your little brats will see the end of oil whether we drill baby drill or continue importing. If we accelerate the pace of usage as are all the other countries in the world, the environental consequences will be severe. Yes, you may call me a liberal, but I am in favor of cutting off all immigration because we will not solve all our social, environmental, and energy problems by importing them from the failed societies of the third world. And all you religious idiots are against helping people, especially the poor and uneducated to stop having too many children.
    Unless we begin a one or less child population program to bring down the world population to a sustainable level, we will in fact see an armageden but it will not be about an antichrist. It will be fighting for the last of the energy sources, food, and water. Unfortunately, all the world’s idiots have the guns. I see a return of the neanderthals in the world’s future.

        Agree, I did some research on the claim that we are all going to be chipped.
        According to what the bill says that is just not true. It calls for a national database of implantables. Artificial hips, knees, pace makers, already have serial numbers but no central database to track how they hold up or if one manufacturer causes more problems than the next. From that perspective it makes sence.

        There is a provision for rfid devices but NO requirement that people be implanted. Is it possible that sometime in the future somebody may change the language slightly and require everyone to be chipped – maybe, but probably under a republican.
        Example:
        Clinton pushed for and had developed the wiretap program for American citizens, but Bush actually used it – WITHOUT court orders!

      This is dangerous thinking. Shutting off oil consumption would have devastating effects on our economy. That would hurt more people than anything you might imagine might happen from using oil. Yes, oil is a finite resource, but classical economics teach us that as this resource gets more scarcer, then the price will go up and that will incentivize us to use alternative energy sources. We should let the market work instead of predicting the worst and implementing uneconomic acts when they are not necessary.

      I’m not very familiar with extracting oil and gas from tar sands and oil shale formations, but I do know that drilling has become much cleaner and much less intrusive in recent years than in years past, so I expect your claim that drilling has “devastating environmental consequences” is just an exaggeration.

      Social engineering population is a disaster in the making. As you know, China adopted a “one child” per family policy and after a number of years, they find that most families have killed their girl babies and kept the first born boy baby. Now these boys can’t find girls to marry to have families. In other words, China will soon find that a one child policy is just another way of going to a no child policy, and negative population growth. Eventually, that’s a disaster for the country since there will be no young people to replace the older workers to keep the economy and essential services going.

            Big Bad John, I had my niece read some of these posts recently and she innocently asked my why all these people were afraid of moving into the future? Angel, is just afraid of the unknown, and will stubbornly hang on to the past even if it was bad or harmful. Same reason women stay in abusive relationships. They know what to expect, even if it is bad, and it is hard for them to go into a new situation, not knowing what to expect. Remember the scare of 2000 when everyone thought the world would shut down? About 35 million people are 65 and older and are going to have to be drug into the 21st century kicking and screaming. Remember when cell phones came out, they were big and expensive, and how people resisted? Now everybody has one they can’t live without them. Only problem is we don’t have 15 years to wait for people to get on board with all those critical issues we have, due to ignoring them for the last twenty.

Too many times we have to suffer at the hands of the green machine and look where we are at now.       I doubt that because the value of the land is worth more when you know how much resource (oil, gas, coal, etc) the land actually contains. It’s difficult to know that until you do an extensive job of exploring the resource, which I don’t think we’ve done yet, because environmentalist don’t want to allow any drilling or mining on these public lands.

        Claire, there are 91.5 million acres of federal land onshore and offshore that are currently leased for oil and gas. Only 23.5 million are producing. 68 million are untouched and could produce far more oil than the disputed offshore and Alaskan areas. You can google Committee on Natural Resources and on that site in the search section, just type in oil leases, and you will see why they want the Oil companies to use the other areas already producing and leased prior to causing potential damage to Alaska or Ca, Fl, Va coasts.
        You will also see how the tax payer has been ripped off by the oil companies, try not to get too mad. I am all for drilling but like Cantor, not off my state!! lol

Some wanted the ban to be lifted and now some don’t want it anywhere near their state. There will be no solution that will please everybody or anybody. We need to drill now to use our existing resources the bridge us to when the new energy technology is perfected, and the energy market can carry the costs. Spend some money and intellectual capital on coal emmission controls to enable another domestic source of energy. WISELY expand nuclear power. Take the wastes of the nuclear plants to Nevada. Those wastes will improve Nevada. Most importantly; minimize government involvement in energy. Environmental oversight is needed; otherwise keep the government out. NO government has ever allocated resources efficiently. Not ours, or India’s, or Britain’s, or Russia’s, or any government. The free enterprize system will deliver the solution to almost any economic problem. Let the government deal with social issues and stay out of business.

    The Williston Basin has over 500 billion barrel of oil at least. The price of crude would be at about $16 a barrel. Use it, don’t sit on it, There is more oil in there than the middle east countries put together, the feild covers an area all the way up into Canada. The 3 oil wells on a reservation in ND goes to Canada to refine for 25% and sells it back to the USA, pretty good return on no investment. A liberal dream plan, make someone else rich and screw USA. Of course the piperline is Canadian owned, going from the border to the Gulf Coast, so it can be sold on the open market amd loaded on ships.     We hear so much about corporations influencing the Congress, but it certainly seems that the great and evil most profitable oil companies the demolib traitors scream about all the time have exactly zero power, or even negative power.

California has all it’s pollution seeping up from the ocean floor offshore Santa Barbara. This has gone on for hundreds of years, yet the liberal idiots blame it on the offshore wells that we drilled there. I know, because I worked on the Heritage and the Harmony rigs. Even if you don’t like him, you must admit he is a brilliant, shrewd, artful, and extremely fierce competitor who will stop at nothing; and will give the GOP the run of their lives for the Presidency.         Venture Capitalist do ~ and it’s a big bucks program. There is nothing pretend about it. ~ to suggest different is completely absurd.

        The discussions below, with cost estimate ranged from $35 a foot in the Barnett Shale to $250 a foot in tougher drills, mostly dates from a couple of years ago, so it’s nice to have updated info. But even then I also have heard really deep wells or horizontals could cost quite a bit more, as you would expect.

        The point of ‘getting an idea’ about how much wells cost is, of course, to be able to spot egregiously overpriced wells.

        There is no hard and fast rule on well costs. But whether you use $100 or $200 a foot for a straight drill of say, 6,000 feet, the highest it could cost would be some $1.5 million or so. If a company is raising $3 million to drill the same kind of well, it would be up to an investors due diligence to ask the company why the estimated costs are so high.

        Of course at VRI we step around the costs factor if we were to invest in a well by using direct pay financing. That is we pay the developmental cost of a well directly to third party vendors, and the oil and gas company’s internal costs, upon presentation of proper billing.

        While a company could fool us and pad it’s costs some, it’s unlikely an oil and gas company pulling the ‘typical’ scam could overbill by 500% and get away with it.

        In addition a company that intended to raise $5 in order to spend $1 on the well would be unlikely to even accept direct pay financing. Our theory is they can’t steal the money if you don’t give it to them in a lump sum.

        I think of direct pay financing as kind of a but spray to keep away scammers, as well as making the investment a true joint venture, where the entity formed for the investors IS actually doing the work of the business as a financing partner.

        AND as for off shore drilling?

        When I joined Shell in 1972, it cost the company 2.5 million ringgit to drill an average oil well of 8000 ft. The price of crude was at 2.42 USD per barrel.[5] When I left in 1995 the cost to drill one average well has gone up to over 10 million ringgit and the price of crude was steady at 19.60 USD per barrel! At its peak in 1986, during the Opec oil crises, crude was selling at 34 USD on the spot market! What do you think? Did Shell make any money?Assuming that an average oil well produces an average of 1000 bbl/day for an average of 15 years @ an average price of 15 USD. We have 82 million USD from just one average oil well! How many wells are there now in the South China Sea?

        After refining, the crude is separated into petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, lubricants and other solid products. The value/barrel increases even further! How much does it really cost Shell to refine, transport and market one barrel of crude? What is the resultant value of the finished products per litre? Nobody knows and Shell is not telling! It depends on the type of crude oil, Arabian light or North Sea heavy crude. Is it really a trade secret? What is the price of crude today for North Sea Brent and for Arabian Light? Do you know? Prices and costs are always changing.We know that North Sea crude is selling at a different price from Arabian light. Malaysian crude, being low in sulfur content is selling at a higher price! What about government’s royalty and production sharing agreements? Confusing isn’t it? Is this why we do not get a straight answer from the oil companies?! I am sure some one knows the bottom line; but knowing and telling are two very different things!

        There is nothing “pretend” about the oil % gas business ~ you is or you ain’t a drilling. Is that now clear?

          I’m sorry you feel that way about the elderly or yourself paying for something you may not ever see – It’s an investment in the future – like schools for the adults of tomorrow – like others before us paved the way for better things for us – Isn’t it called “paying it forward?” – I don’t have a problem paying my money forward – I do have a problem paying the way today for people who won’t get off their butts and take care of themselves and their children.         Another argument; Offering Tax breaks for the most wealthy ! and it will create jobs! Well, we tried that Idea and here we are today with a 10 & 11% unemployment. What happen to the jobs? ~ Hmm? IT’s been 8 years! time enough for it to bear fruit if it was going too. That doesn’t take in account of the many, many thousands of under-employed, the working poor we have today.

        I’m one of them! and many of my friends are as well. Men and women raising families on $14.00 per hour, no overtime pay, no sick days with Christmas and Easter off with base pay. No insurance, no pension fund, ~ If anyone wants a lesson on being a conservative, go spend the week living with such a family.

        That’s not to say there is not wasteful people in these ranks ~ for we know there is and whatever you do for them will “never” be enough, they will waste everything they come into contact with. Living under bridges is the perfect place for them. They are right where they need to be.

        I went and made a payment on my house taxes this afternoon at the new sub courthouse for everyone’s “convenience” Nice building, full of helpful people to take your money.         The commodes are new and shinny clean, they even flush themselves. Being a two flush kind of guy, I learned you have to stand up some 15 seconds and then sit back down. Same thing at the hand sink, you’re required to stand just right to get the water to come out. So that is someone idea of conservation I suppose. I just wish the same idea was applied to my tax money and maybe I wouldn’t owe them so much for being born and living here.

        I really don’t feel that the government is off my back this evening. In fact it’s about as worse as it ever been. And I hold the GOP and all there good ideas largely responsible for it. It’s taken 40 years to come fully circle with the GOP notions of a “better way” of administrating government, and brothers and sisters it really sucks.

        I’m going to screw you all and die! Like Nixon, the last great GOP President we had,( and that’s debatable to some) ” You won’t have me to kick around anymore.”

        Go find someone else to suck dry with these twisted notions of conservationism and demanding accountability from the average citizen while permitting statesmen and government immunity to any accountability.

Just today, I saw an article stating we may not have enough doctors to cover the additional people. Well, duh; I told the White house (David Axelrod) over a year ago the very same thing and also that there is not sufficient infrastructure to handle this many people. Add all the unfunded mandates relating to Health care Reform and the cost balloons far above the figure the CBO quoted as to what the cost would be. 4 days ago, the administration said we need to do some adjustments on the cost of this bill admitting they underestimated the true cost. It seems they do not have the ability to forecast or think beyond the present day and all they are getting is self satisfaction.

    If they pass the “Cap and Trade Bill”, you will see costs shoot through the roof for businesses and us as well. They say it will create jobs but many economists are saying just the opposite and that it, in fact, will place a larger burden on our teetering economy
    and further regulate industry.

    I worked in the Federal Government for several years and a part of my job was to analyze just about every aspect of other countries such as form of government, economy, ethnic breakdown, etc. There is no doubt in my mind that what I have seen over the last year is a slow but steady movement toward Socialism and precisely why I will be at the polls in November.

    “I felt the decision, as far as Alaska’s position is concerned, was reasonable,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a Republican who has sought accelerated exploration and drilling to tap more of Alaska’s energy, both offshore and on.

    Democratic Sen. Mark Begich struck a similar note. He said that, at least at first glance, the president aimed for balance and achieved it.

    The United States needs to produce more of its own oil and gas, and Alaska should be a big part of that production. That’s why the green light for Shell — and the news that its air quality permit has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency — is welcome. Shell still must wait for the outcome of court challenges to its exploration plans.

    Oil exploration and production in arctic seas come with risk. Critics of Obama’s decision say that letting Shell proceed is an invitation to disaster and disregard for climate change, which is more obvious in the Arctic than in much of the rest of the world

Rasmussen correctly predicted the recent elections where only Republicans won and by a clear majority primarily because they did not want this Health Care Bill. Everything I have read shows more against than for the bill. Have you seen anything that says otherwise?

    What do you believe will happen at the polls in November? The Democrats admit they have a lot of work to do to prevent major losses.

I also agree that major actions need to be taken to turn this country around, however, from an economic sense, I believe they have spent far too much on pork, bail-outs, etc. and not enough toward the job market and housing.

In consideration of the history of the middle east and the ethnic division of the people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, we should probably not be there. I personally believe our soldiers are being killed in a lost cause and we are only adding to those who hate Americans. We are throwing money into corrupt governments. Iran is a country that is a danger to all middle east countries and I believe this administration is beginning to realize Iran could put a stranglehold on them. You can’t negotiate with a psycho
    and their religious leaders are siding with him. Should it be our problem when all those countries in the middle east recognize what could happen and collectively could do something about it? I don’t think so but we have a habit of protecting everyone.       Somalia, is just begging for us to spend some money there as well. They want a piece of the action and taunt the rest of the world.

      The president is attempting to change “these” dynamics with this recent Nuclear Strike Protocol adjustment. Attempting to offend nations “incentives” and to appeal to their “self-interest”. A bold approach and it will be interesting to see how this plays out on the world stage.

      This president is a thinker, I hold faith in his “intentions”, he’s a problem solver, but he is just one man in a world full of many men. Men that despise him for his success, his energy to do more then two things at once and his mixed heritage. I’ve never known a person that instilled so much hate without committing a felony.

      But really, it’s good for all this hate to come forward. As a nation we need to “see” this hate, understand it and address it for what it is. It’s been luring in the shadows and impeding the growth of America far too long. America is a nation of mixed heritage, the diversity being both our greatest strength and weakness. I look at it as something that had to be done at some point in time.

      Where America will grow out of this in my life time is unclear to me. But it’s clear it has began. This is good.

      Until we get our “house in order” I think it foolish to force our will on neighbors without an overriding just cause.

      No JR, it’s you that’s not getting it. That in the last 60 days Chile and the Ukrane has both turn over to the US, neclear weapons grade urainium for “safe storage” with more nations to follow, indicated that the US is seen by the rest of the world as stronger then ever, ~ even if you don’t.

      I wished that your eyes were open to see the change that was promised ~ but I can’t open your mind or your eyes. You see only what you wish to see.

      Too many American’s are sick from the poison they have been feed by the minions of spin doctors sent out by the 2% of American’s to subvert and confuse the other 98 %, to sway them to vote against their own self interest.

      This poisonous infection is intended to keep the money flowing to that 2% and impede any meaningful change. They want a president in office they have control of. With Obama , they are not sure of ~ this worry’s them a lot. They want him out! and with enough spin and money spent the American people will vote him out and against their own true self interest.

      That Wall Street supported him and contributed to Obama’s campaign, reasons are many. They know how to pick winners for one thing, that’s what they do. They hoped for favors and concessions, I think they are disappointed.

      I fear America will see another 1963 all over again. I sure hope I’m wrong.

      It’s okay to be angry with government, but be accountable for your anger and focus it. ~ What is the real target of your anger? There are many ! but it not all government or all politicians. Politics is turned into a “shell game of blame” by masters of diversion and contempt. They work to fool you into support and defending false notions and bad ideas that serve only 2% of Americans.

      It’s a simple divide and conquer. Divide us by party, divide us by moral issues, divide us by race,divide us by regions, have us hating each other, ~ They enjoy the show and laugh at us as they count their money.

      They don’t care about “issues” or parties or American values but only money and anything that offers the means to get it, keep it and control it.

    The democrats are the good cops the republicans are bad cops. One gives out easy credit to grow the economy the other starts a war to get more stuff. When it all crashes down they buy the best stuff cheap and do it all again. Try to vote for someone else and wait you cant afford it cause your not alredy in.
    Even if 100% of us voted for change they wouldnt change. Why dont you republicand go for real campain finance reforem and make it stick. It will take more than that 5th grade mentality to run this worl in to anything sucessfull. So heres aproposition. Insted of electing a democrat president and a republican congress or vice versa every 8 years with a recession to motivate people to swith parties. Lets skip the recession and elect a president and a congress from the same party. They can stay in office one term and then we swith without the recesion. The frequent alternating will keep one party from goiung to far one way.
