The Return Of The Teleprompter

August 6, 2012 by

President Barack Obama is once again relying on his trusted teleprompter during his campaign speeches.

The Hill announced in July that the Obama campaign was going to be weaning the President off his teleprompter –- or, as some call it, TOTUS. It was an attempt to get him to speak “more extemporaneously.”

That announcement came days after the campaign already felt the damage from Obama’s “you didn’t build that” remark — a statement that was made without the teleprompter. Conservative capitalists claim that the statement showed Obama’s true colors.

Since the monumental misspeak, the campaign has stated that Obama has continued to make appearances without the teleprompter.

But The Examiner reports that the President reverted to his old method during a recent stop in Florida, a State that will be important in November.

I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE “BIG DEAL” ABOUT TELEPROMPTERS. ALL PRESIDENTS HAVE SPEECH-WRITERS. TELEPROMPTERS HELP THE PRESIDENT “STAY ON POINT.” A WRITTEN SPEECH IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXPRESSION OF THE PRESIDENT’S VALUES. THEREFORE, SPONTANEOUS COMMENTS SHOULD BE “IN-SYNC” WITH PREPARED SPEECHES.

OF COURSE, BEING “PREPARED” IS A PROBLEM FOR SOME; IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT IS SPOKEN DURING A PRESIDENT’S – OR, ANY POLITICIAN’S – SPEECH, WHAT IS THE POINT OF LISTENING?

    • SantaCLAUSE

THAT (expletive deleted) CANT SPEEK FOR HIS SELF,, READS WHAT SOMEONE HAS WRITTEN AND PUT ON THE TELEPROMPTER !!!!

      • JUKEBOX

He went back to the totus because his extemporaneous speeches are three times as long as scheduled, because of his uhs and stuttering, which indicates to me that he is lying worse than planned.

    • http://none Charlie

The point of listening is to hear what lies “They” want us to believe …

  • Harold Olsen

I have no problem with ANY president using a teleprompter to give a speech, but in Obama’s case, it’s clear he has no idea what his speech is about until he reads it on a teleprompter. When they break down he is stuck and can’t continue. Yet, his groupies call him intelligent and brilliant, while on the other hand they call Sarah Palin stupid for writing four or five words on her hand to remind her of what she wants to say and then she speaks for an hour or more without a written speech. Barack Obama is an uneducated moron and a buffoon!

    • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

      “Harold Olsen,”

SIR, YOU PROVED MY POINT. IF Barack Hussein HAS NO IDEA OF THE CONTENTS WITHIN HIS SPEECH, WHY ARE YOU LISTENING? SUNDAY-MORNING “TALKING-HEADS” ALWAYS “RECAP” THE PRESIDENT’S ACTIVITIES DURING THE PREVIOUS WEEK. THIS IS MY PRIMARY WAY OF FINDING-OUT WHAT THE KENYAN IS DOING.

PERSONALLY, I PREFER WATCHING SENATE HEARINGS ON C-SPAN. SINCE I DO NOT LIKE THE PRESIDENT, I WASTE LITTLE TIME WATCHING HIS SPEECHES.

      • James

All that talk about the President use of a teleprompter somebody need to get mitt something as he can’t just talk plain so you talk about dumb.Seems to me you cats are angry and can’t accept change, however you can forget it change is here to stay with you or with you don’t hate because you want to class a person a certain way and then you don’t get the lie that has been told all these years about a certain class or race of people

      • JUKEBOX

Is your real name David Axelrod or Robert Gibbs?

    • Jon

Soros ought to just stand up and make the speeches and cut out the middle man (Obama).

    • http://yahoo.com Adekunle Afolabi

With due respect It is highly unethical and very unreasonable to pass comment without being a leader for a second. If you can hundred percent control your family without any mistake, but this is absolutely impossible. If you’re the saint then move on to mayor position and/or probably gubernatorial position. The seat/position of presidency is highly demanding and very hot for any creature made by God to perfectly control. I therefore encourage you sir to desist from calling great leader a names. Regards to your family. Thanks.

  • swampfox

Guess he finally figured out his two drug damaged braincells could.not generate anything coherent on their own, what a pathectic loser.

  • R.Marcel Comtois

If obama needs to read from a teleprompter…..this means that he is not sincere or does not know what he is talking about…..when you believe in something, you do not need to have someone put words in your mouth

    • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

“R.Marcel Comtois,” YOU ARE ON POINT!

      • Deerinwater

So just how much stuff do you think the leader of the most powerful nation the earth has ever witness has on his mind today ? Sincere? Tell us what you know about sincerity if you have any. Do you ever think that your little world is complicated and forget something?

I think you are lacking in the understanding of what is required to be a leader of a troop of Boy Scouts much less the free world.

People can not “give” what they do not possess, that’s a fact! You bring forward no insight and no respect for you have none.

While opinions are like a$$holes, everybody got one.

      • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

        “Deerinwater,”

IF YOUR COMMENTS WERE AIMED AT ME, TALK PLAINLY, SIR. WE ARE MEN – NOT BOYS. I HOPE MY COMMENTS TO YOU IN THE OTHER THREAD HAS NOT CAUSED YOU TO BE COMBATTIVE WITH ME. SPEAK YOUR MIND AND LET ME KNOW WHERE WE STAND. YOUR COMMENTS WERE VEILED.

The problem with a Teleprompter in Obama’s case is that he is a scripted, brainless puppet. He does have his own ideas, but off prompter, his ideas reveal his core values which in so many cases have proven foreign to America’s core values. Someone is obviously guiding his every move so that he appeals to the unwashed masses. If he gets re-elected, he will go off prompter for good and the mask will come off……We’ll all see and lament the real Barack Obama.

  • R.Marcel Comtois

obama may be educated but, he is not smart nor brilliant as Bill o’Reilly and others profess…..Just because he went to Harvard does not mean he is brilliant……Unfortunately the wrong black man was elected…..Most whites that voted for him only wanted to be part of history….sad to say

    • SantaCLAUSE

HARVARD WORCE STUDENT,,,,, Saudi Arabia payed for his grades !!!!! stright from HARVARD !!!!!!!

  • Barbara

Obama is not an intelligent man. Without a teleprompter he can’t make a speech without goofing up and babbling on and on about nothing. People don’t even know what he’s talking about. He doesn’t either. Making speeches is more than just reading words that someone else has written. There is no sincerity in Obama’s words.

    • Norm

People with second grade vocabularies probably do have a problem understanding Obama.
GW Bush was more their symbol on intelligence.

      • Oneguess

        Uh…duh….we…that is you…need to …that is we…uh…duh…I can’t hear myself….uh…ok, I’m glad you’re…uh…fired up…uh…(Is THIS what you mean, “Norm”?)

      • Dale left coast

        Norm . . . when Bush was off the prompter hie could still make a recognizable sentence . . . when O’bammy is off the prompter . . . he sounds like a middle-eastern marxist despot . . . .

      • Norm

I can’t wait to see the Obama/Romney debates. Obama will show Romney up to be the fool that he truly is.

      • Deerinwater

        Norm says:
        August 6, 2012 at 1:48 pm
I can’t wait to see the Obama/Romney debates.”

WoW! I’ve stayed out of the fray for so long now, that reality had slipped my mind Norm.

In deed, that could be a great show!

But I would not get too excited about it ~ the debate format will most likely be structured in such a way that any Pinning or Need to “tap out” will be so “glossed over” any decisive “smack down” will be overlooked by most and obvious only to a few. The clock or station break will be cleverly employed. The questions will be slow pitch to one and outside to the other.

Then too, Obama does not have that “Killer Instinct” to take a strong offensive position, his sparing will be a dance looking for an open opportunity inside the boundaries of civil discourse. While I agree with you, in a open “No holds barred” debate , Obama would go through Mitt like Sherman went through Vicksburg.

Fortunately Mitt, is not exactly a “killer” either, I can’t help but believe a debate between these two will be disappointing if your are looking for some heavy action.

I’ve been somewhat disappoint with the medias understand of solid, hard hitting, in your face debate.

Notions of Debate as been scale back to some kind of a “PowerPuff” bush league.

  • Steve

The puppet masters don’t like when he goes off script.

  • Norm

Romney needs to get a teleprompter and a vaccination for foot-in-mouth disease.
He just can’t quite get his s**t together!!
    .

    • Oneguess

So now it’s GW Bush AND Romney? Uh…duh…that is…uh…

      • Norm

Bush was/is a perfect example of what a noted family name and Money can do for someone.
Romney is a 2 faced liar who has been on both sides of every argument from health insurance to abortion. Every time he opens his mouth the BS gets thicker and fouler.

  • dan

You know you have them rattled when they can’t even remember their own lies.

    • Arnold

That would be funny if it were not so true. Unfortunately, the joke has been on us now for 3 1/2 years of an inept president and 2 years before that of a socialist congress.

  • http://google john p.

This just go’s to show you he is brainless . he can’t speak for him self
so he needs a teleprompter . he is like a puppet some one else tells
him what to do and say .

    • Oneguess

Why, of course, it’s BUSH’s fault!

    • eddie47d

You know darn well that G Bush used a teleprompter and often. Now Romney better buy up several with all the gaffes he makes. LOL

      • Dale left coast

        eddie . . . The “O” and his side-kick Biden . . . are walking gaff machines . . . unfortunately the lame-stream media neglects to report them . . .
When O’bammy is off the prompter he goes into marxist limp mode . . . he takes “clueless’ to new levels.

  • http://www.facebook.com/dan.mancuso.56 Dan Mancuso

I have a solution to show this goon up for what he really is. If you want to show the great unwashed what he really is – take the telepropter away from him and his puppet masters. There has to be some simple, inexpensive technical device or design that can interupt the signal to the telepropter when he is giving his ‘speeches’. Why not deploy it at every speaking venue? Force his braindead minions to see him for what he really is? Would this be ‘illegal? Who cares, it certainly wouldn’t be immoral! Besides, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander – his masters and minions have no qualms about breaking the law and working against the constituion to achieve their venal ends.

    • Daveh234

Most telepromter use is for “notes” like when you had little 3″x5″ cards for giving a speech.
      Not totally written out typically.
Like when Palin had something written on her hand. That is a “cheat” like when you had a test and wrote things on body parts or such.
Teleprompter certainly isn’t “hiding” anything and is helpful in maintaining the multitude of details. If you misspeak they certainly put your feet to the fire.

    • Daveh234

If the teleprompter is wireless a signal may be able to block the signal and that would be illegal. Your not allowed to block phone signals and other communication devices because it would hinder security purposes.

  • greyeagle

HAY what about 3×5 cards,if one did there home work they would see that alot of x-Presidents used them.but then iam not a HARVARD man,

  • Thinking About

Just who do you know which makes speeches without prompters. I bet many would have liked to have your special candidate have used a prompter of some type rather than have delivered the dumb statements they make. Do any of you think the news people give the news report without a prompter? Much better to have a teleprompter than your hand. Get over it, all the bushy lovers never had a problem when he used a teleprompter. Maybe Palin would not have said she had foreign experience because she could see Russia from Alaska.

  • 45caliber

If you listen to Oblama in any crowd situation where he doesnt’ have a teleprompter, you can see why they switched him back to one. He simply cannot remember what he’s trying to say (without saying something that gives the conservatives a big edge) and ends up with a lot of “ah … but … ah …”

I’ve heard other politicians including Presidents speak and have been impressed with some in how they answer. But Oblama? I’ve not seen a thing yet that impresses me about this man. He is basically a puppet with someone else pulling the strings and giving him things to say.

  • chuckb

thinking about, was barry using the teleprompter when he said there are 57 states? or referrring to hawaii as asia in 2011,
We’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned.2010,
The Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries.” –Tampa, Fla., Jan. 28, 2010

“What I was suggesting — you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith…” –in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, who jumped in to correct Obama by saying “your Christian faith,” which Obama quickly clarified

should i go on “thinking about”, apparently you weren’t thinking when you refer to palin and seeing russia from alaska. sarah palin would be hard pressed to make the misquotes barry has and is still making, he has broken all records.

i have a page full of misquotes by your hero.

    • cawmun cents

Didja ever notice that there came a plethora of Bushbombs when what was being said was making sense?
These people need a teleprompter and some slick college edumacated speech writers too!
Then maybe they could obtain some salt, sand,a pair of testicles……but that is doubtful.
Heck us dumb hillbilly conservatives may not be Ivy Leaguers, but we dont use racecard, bushbomb, point the finger at the other guy, every single time we set out to debate something either.
Hmmmm…..and you PAID for that schoolin’ pal?
Wow…I dont know much, but I think you got gypped!
      Haw!

  • SJJolly

Q: How many of the anti-Obama commentors, above, are parroting words written by others, with little understanding of them? Quite a few, I suspect.

The far-right can’t even agree on what Obama is, only that he’s something BAD per right-wing thought. If he was one-tenth as BAD as many on the right think, many of them would be learning Arabic and the Koran in Git-mo, as subversives.

    • Jonathon Walker

K… You want a fresh opinion “unhindered by right wing thinking”, well here it is. NO one can agree what Barry is, for the simple reason he’s changed his name several times (which happens to be on record,) and has had a handfull of SS Numbers (also on record,). What isn’t known is his collage thesis’s, transcripts and such. What you fail to realize, as others do as well, is that he is MY Employee, I pay for his wages, my boss pays for them, and so does every other blue/white collar working American. If my Employer can delve into my history, then I have every right to his. How can anyone have any faith what so ever in someone that has his entire history either sealed or covered up? You can’t, no matter what kind of spin you put on it. It boils down to this, Romney has made himself millions, True. But who would you prefer in the top management position of the Government? A buisness man who has done well? Or someone who has slicked his way into office simply for the fact he is another color and has never had a real job. So Romney bought failing companies and sold off the pieces, which would you, as an employee of said company want? For him NOT to buy the company and you wind up out of work due to the company shutting its doors? Or HAVE him buy it and seperate the company into smaller units that can succeed and prevail depending on its own merits. As to Barry’s lament about the Poor, I got news for you, there will ALWAYS be poor. If you elevate the poor to middle class in income by taking it FROM the middle class, then EVERYONE is poor. 3 out of 4 “working stiff’s” Americans could care less what the Government is doing, they simply want to work at their jobs, raise their kids to be happy, and relax once in a while.

  • http://survivingurbancrisis.wordpress.com Silas Longshot

He’s an idiot in either case. Off the prompter, he let’s the ‘real’ him slip out, giving us great material for bringing him down. On it, he just parrots the crap Soros dictates for him to say and that doesn’t sit well in real America either.

  • chuckb

sjjp;;y, if you are referring to the quotes i stated and consider that parroting, you are mistaken, those are quotes from your glorious leader not written by someone else and there are a multitude of them. if he was a republican, the bolsheviks in the media would have driven him out of office..

  • Deerinwater

Organized people use notes, Palin wrote on her hand. Unless you are presenting a memorized key note speech or like Yul Brynner that played The king and I 4,500 times, you need aids and prompts to insure that you have covered the material completely and not forgotten something. ~ If a person(s) invest all that time and money to stage an event for the sole opportunity to present their ideas and talking points, what is it that that many of you have a problem with this state of the arts devise to get the job done and done as best as it can be done?

I would not make fun of Palin writing on her hand . I would not make fun of a preacher ( mother doesn;t like that word) pastor bringing draft notes to Sunday morning services. I would not think it odd an instructor presented a class syllabus or outline.

What is it a about “preparedness” that offends?

I’m just now learning how to use my calendar on my cell phone. It’s pretty convenient really, I’m having to develop a new habit that serve me well. Considering, even my tiny empire can turn into a three ring circus in a heartbeat, I need help! keeping up with my obligations and responsibilities. I have people depending on me and letting them down is no way to run an empire and be respected by others. I can find a $300.00 cell phone quicker then I can a piece of paper or .99 cent note pad. While I confess, I have had to used one phone to find another several times.

How would all of Mr. Livingston staff like it if he ran off to play golf and forgot to sign payroll checks Thursday?

Obama is a good Orator, I know it, he knows it and you know it ~ and you hate it! ~is what I’m left to think since some of you express such a strong hatred form him.

I hear some people say that they can’t understand Obama, ~ LOL! well ~ I think such a statement speaks for it’s self and there is little that I could add.

I never did care for “W” much, met him at the ballpark a few times and we’ve bumped into each several times at events and functions over the years, he just is not my kind of guy on any level really, he has never been sincere, he’s not country, he’s not Texas, he’s not a stockman or horseman or farmer, he is not especially bright or witty but attempts to borrows it, ~ but I swear I never hated him like many of you do Obama.

  • swampfox

    Der…ah…duh…..uh….uh….dur…ahduhhhh…any…uh….uh….
if he was any dumber drool would Dribble out his lying mouth.

  • jopa

It is kind of funny reading all the posts and most of you don’t realize that Romney also uses the teleprompters 99 per cent of the time.Even using them he make s all the mistakes when he tries to put in a little note here and there trying to be funny or cute.Even Fox doesn’t want to talk about teleprompters anymore knowing Romney is speechless without them. One more point is that Obama does most of his own speech writing and editing. just for the record.

  • Jbez

President Barack Obama just needs to rest and when you are not alert, you are open to demonic attacks which is evident in your speaking ability and train of thought. You need to come to the Healing center in Memphis, Tn in some form or fashion to find out what or who in the spiritual realm is attacking you.

  • jopa

Jbez; When you are through with your treatments try and put your message through once again.I honestly believe you are in the wrong center and should be in some psyche ward.
