The Return Of Civil Disobedience

It’s good to see civil disobedience making a comeback.

As NBC’s Washington, D.C., affiliate reported recently, a group of students who were members of the conservative Young America’s Foundation High School Conference were touring the Capitol in June. While visiting the Lincoln Memorial, the group spontaneously began singing the National Anthem when a U.S. Park Police officer tried to shut them down.

Rather than be intimidated by the fascist brown shirt on duty, a girl in the group is heard to say on the video, “This is America, we sing the national anthem. Who says on the Lincoln Memorial we can’t sing the national anthem, that’s what I want to know?”

The group then sang it again and, according to news reports, other visitors not part of the group joined in. The nonplussed and now greatly outnumbered brown shirted thug did nothing.

“The area they were standing in and singing is an area that is restricted for this type of activity,” U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser told NBC. “The United States Park Police is absolutely content-neutral when it comes to any sort of demonstrations in these areas.”

This is typical of the mindless, bureaucratic, zero-tolerance, politically correct garbage that has infiltrated government on all levels. And it’s time for Americans to stand up to it.

While a visit to a monument dedicated to the tyrannical dictator responsible for the death of 700,000 people, who shredded the 10th Amendment and accelerated the nation down this path toward oppressive government wouldn’t have moved me to break out in song, I can understand how a group of students indoctrinated with the sanitized version of America’s 16th President might be so moved.

Good for the students. May the rest of us have enough backbone to resist the oppression rather than just “move along” as we are directed.

    Progressives love to point to the ’60s as their best days marching and protesting in the name of civil disobedience. Now that they’re infesting Washington and every state with their temporary majority, it seems that civil disobedience just isn’t “fair.” Only a herd of spoiled, pampered, paranoid brats would claim that civil disobedience has been patented and is owned by progressives.

      I will say that there is one or two things that Lincoln did right. One was putting In God We Trust on our coinage. He should have taken it farther and put it on our paper currency as well!!

        BS, it has been brought to light that those “students” knew they where not do this and they planed they’re “”Spontaneous”” singing well in advance knowing that it would get a response. This is NOT civil disobedience but an act of deliberate planned provocation and activism…but hey, facts have never mattered to the bloggers and sheep on either side of the political spectrum

            Edduh! If you look at the video, you’ll see that the kids have placed there hands over their hearts during the National Anthem. That shows more patriotism than Obama bin Laden who, by the way, can’t seem to do that. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

            I think you guys are taking what JRC said wrong. Yes it was an act of civil disobedience and yes they should be able to sing the national anthem wherever. Although I think he was trying to say its not quite what it should be. In reality, at this point in time, there should be millions of Americans marching on Washington DC and literally throwing these people out of office. Treason is punishable by death. They have ALL committed treason.

            Just because your communist idols have said so does not make it so. This is America, and your elitist puppets can stuff it. They are out of line and over the line. Refusing to comply with illegal, unconstitutional mandates is not really disobedience to the law of the land. Quite the contrary. It is exercising our God-given rights, recognized by our Supreme Law, and refusing to honor a pack of criminal thugs who think they can just declare whatever they want to be law and we all have to follow.

          So an act that is deliberately planned is NOT civil disobedience? Perhaps you should have explained that to Martin Luther King. All his marches were planned in advance or he wouldn’t have gone to those cities. Like his ‘civil disobedience’, no one was harmed. The ranger might have had his feelings hurt but he was probably the only one. And, since he works there, he doesn’t count.

          Perhaps we should have more civil disobedience of this type in America. It seems that the only people allowed to do as they please are the illegals. The rest of us are supposed to shut up and open our wallets.

          It may not have been spontaneous, but it was still civil disobedience. All the demonstrations put on by the left are planned in advance.

          My only problem with the story is that Mr. Livingston seems to feel the states should have been left to keep slaves if they wished to. That was the only “10th Amendment” issue, and a weak one at that.

You demonstrate an ignorance (lack of knowledge) of U.S. history for that period. As to slavery, black-African slavery existed in the mid-19th century in Europe and many South American countries. Those countries managed to end the abhorrent practice peacefully. I’m confident it would have ended here as well.

            I refer you to Thomas DiLorenzo’s “The Real Lincoln” Another good source is “The Constitution in Exile” by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, Read the works of the fabulous historian Bruce Catton, particularly “The Civil War.” You can also use the search tool at the top of Personal Liberty Digest and search Lincoln for more information.

            The South didn’t leave the union over slaves. There were only about 1200 slave owners in the South at the time and I can guarantee you that the rest didn’t care to risk their lives over slaves being free or not. It was an issue in the North to improve enlistment. Actually the North suffered more than the South did upon freeing the slaves – although the North called them “indentured servants”. They had more.

            The South left due to States Rights (the 10th Amendment). The North controlled the House and used their control to limit what the states in the South could and could not do. One biggie was industrialization and who the South could sell to. The North wanted the Federal Government in charge since they controlled it. The South wanted to industrialize and sell their cotton and tobacco overseas. That would have seriously cut into the North’s profits.

          Identifying Sheeple
          a. Quasi-Intellectual Sheeple believe in the world of academia as unerring, as opposed to true scholars, who always have the wisdom to question the conclusions of academia. To me, an Ivy League degree is little more than a $100,000 piece of paper; it tells me nothing of the true intelligence of the person holding it.

          b. The ’New Age’ Sheeple: Otherwise known as “unabashed collectivists”. Not to be confused with people who do legitimate study into mythology, spiritualism, and the teachings of the ancient past. These are the folks who read Oprah throwaway books like “The Secret”, and think they have actually learned a secret. New Age Sheeple do not set out to actively and physically fix problems. They follow the Positivist view, which is to ignore bad things and hope they go away, or make them go away “with their minds”.

          c. The ‘Quasi-Activist’ Sheeple: Also known as “the rebel with too many causes and not enough knowledge”. At least these sheeple are willing to leave their houses and fight for something, even if they know little to nothing about what they are fighting for or over. The problem is that their lack of insight and in-depth understanding on most issues makes them highly susceptible to manipulation. These are the “useful idiots” we hear so much about; the people who support Anarchist groups that promote Socialist ideals (uh, Socialism is contrary to the tenets of real Anarchism, guys…), the people who believe everything they are told by the CRU on global warming even though the CRU has never released original source data proving that anything they say is true, the people who blame Capitalism and free markets for the economic collapse even though we haven’t had legitimate Capitalism and free markets in over a century. Without knowing the facts behind these issues, how can one effectively involve himself in them?

          Common Sheeple Arguments
          a. The NWO is just a “conspiracy theory”
          b. I’m well informed and have never been a “sheep”
          c. I’m not the “sheeple”! You are because you believe in conspiracy theories: Yes, full grown adults still use the rubber/glue tactic.
          d. The NWO is not possible because it would involve too many people. Someone would let the cat out of the bag eventually: Actually, the Global Elites themselves let “the cat out of the bag” constantly. They speak openly about plans for world government, world financial control, population control and reduction, and they write bills and legislation that are designed to limit or erase our civil liberties. The proof is hidden in plain sight
          e. You’re just fear mongering to get attention: The term “fear mongering” denotes the use of lies to induce hysteria.
          f. Everything is just chaos. There is no such thing as an organized conspiracy to control the world
          g. Yeah, I know the NWO exists, but who cares! We can’t stop it, so just live your life and have fun while you can
          h. What’s so bad about a one-world government? It would be the end of war, right?

          We did not get to where we are now by giving up when the waters became choppy, and I believe when this age is chronicled and spoken of, it will be our perseverance above all else that defines us. It is a grueling task to defeat an opponent who cannot be dissuaded, who cannot be made to give up. It is nearly impossible to defeat that same opponent when he is also right. To those in the New World Order, we are such an opponent. As long as we do not falter, the sheeple will grow thinner in number, replaced by cognizant vibrant individuals, and the warped ambitions of Globalists will not come to pass…

            “It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.”

            The bigger the government gets, the bigger the errors grow…The Constitution was constructed to limit this nation with the *smallest* government possible, while still being able to address functions that lie primarily with defense from invasion & trade/relations with foreign nations.

            Yet, how many people realize that, by lawful definitions of “jurisdiction,” the US Government is considered to be an ALIEN jurisdiction in respect with State Jurisdiction? The entirety of US Jurisdiction includes the District of Columbia, Possessions & Territories (specifically named Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam & Philippine Islands), & US Enclaves (those lands ceded to the US by the States, as stated in Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, for those specific purposes mentioned)…This also includes those who contract with (ie: apply for a job in government service, hence submitting to the Oath of Office) or Naturalize as US citizens under the 14th Amendment. That is the full EXTENT of US Jurisdiction.

            We the People are the Sovereign Power, delegating many Powers through our representatives in the State governments (via the 10th Amendment), which in turn delegates few & limited Powers to the US Government (That’s right, the States *created* the Feds, not the other way around).

          I am PROUD of them. It is these rights given by our constitution for the freedom of expresion. If not for this you would not even be able to say anything here. Be glad you live here. It is time for a change for government to get out of our lives and be the government intended and exercises the powers given to them. The government has overextended their powers into our private and public lives and deserves to be reminded why they are there in the first place. Our time, our votes and our voices will tell, and I say TELL our government officials what their jobs are.

What do you think is wrong with this group wanting to show pride in their country, especially now when this radical socialist administration is trying to turn our children against the USA!? I am very proud of these kids! Or would you rather watch the teachers who taught 5-6 year old children to sing praises to Obama their Messiah? “THAT WAS SICK!” At least these students are old enough to know right from wrong and they chose to honor their country. “What kind of American finds fault with school students singing their National Anthem?”

      This was not ever a case of civil disobedience but a case of patriot students displaying their belief in America by singing the National Anthem.

      This country is being twisted, warped and raped by the Marxist minded liberal progressives and a force de risistance is now growing by leaps and bounds to stop it.

      A sad time when a progressive NJ judge rules that a muslim man can beat and rape his wife because Sharia law allows it even though the wife’s attempt to get an earlier restraining order were refused by the court.

      While recognizing that defendant had engaged in sexual relations with plaintiff against her expressed wishes in November 2008 and on the night of January 15 to 16, 2009, the judge did not find sexual assault or criminal sexual conduct to have been proven. He stated:

      This court does not feel that, under the circumstances, that this defendant had a criminal desire to or intent to sexually assault or to sexually contact the plaintiff when he did. The court believes that he was operating under his belief that it is, as the husband, his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited.
      After acknowledging that this was a case in which religious custom clashed with the law, and that under the law, plaintiff had a right to refuse defendant’s advances, the judge found that defendant did not act with a criminal intent when he repeatedly insisted upon intercourse, despite plaintiff’s contrary wishes.

      Having found acts of domestic violence consisting of assault and harassment to have occurred, the judge turned to the issue of whether a final restraining order should be entered. He found such an order unnecessary, vacated the temporary restraints previously entered in the matter and dismissed plaintiff’s domestic violence action….

      The appellate court reversed this absurd decision, saying: As the judge recognized, the case thus presents a conflict between the criminal law and religious precepts. In resolving this conflict, the judge determined to except defendant from the operation of the State’s statutes as the result of his religious beliefs. In doing so, the judge was mistaken.

      A New Jersey judge sees no evidence that a Muslim committed sexual assault of his wife — not because he didn’t do it, but because he was acting on his Islamic beliefs: “This court does not feel that, under the circumstances, that this defendant had a criminal desire to or intent to sexually assault or to sexually contact the plaintiff when he did. The court believes that he was operating under his belief that it is, as the husband, his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited.”

      Luckily, the appellate court overturned this decision, and a Sharia ruling by an American court has not been allowed to stand. This time.

      I grew up in the 60′s. I didnt join the protesters then because I was too busy trying to work. I must admit that I may not have agreed with a lot of the protesting at that time anyway, BUT, this is a horse of a different color. I say maybe this is what this country needs Right Now!     The 1960′s draft dodgers added a lot of case law on the subject of violation of conscience. Patriots like these (and us) may need to use that body of case law someday. Unlike the draft dodgers, flag burners, and the like, our Civil Disobedience must be expressed with firmness, respect for the rights and property of others, and with conviction that the authorities are usurping authority that is not granted to them in our Constitution.

    BTW…I am getting sick of some religious people who try to apply Romans 13 to these situations. “America is a nation of laws, not a nation of men.” We’ve all heard that phrase, but the government schools refuse to explain that to the children who are subjected to that educational path.

    Most nations have a human being at the top of their chains of command: dictators, kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers, etc., and are designated “nations of men.” In America, we say that we are a “nation of laws,” rather than “of men.” At the top of our chain of command is our Constitution, the ultimate law. Everyone, including the President of our Constitutional Republic, is under that Law (or supposed to be). It is our ultimate “authority” or “higher power” of Romans 13. In fact, “We the People,” who ratified that Document are part and parcel to that “higher power.”

          Actually, the only SUPREME LAW is our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
          All other “laws” passed by Congress are statutes, and only binding by those under jurisdiction of maritime law. Our silence is taken by them as our assent.

          As sovereign, natural humans, we are not bound by statutes. It only covers corporate entities.

          These truths have been hidden from us. We have been grossly deceived by those who wish to enslave us. Those in power are aware of these things, and claim sovereign status. Why do you think they don’t feel bound by the same laws they impose on us?

          It’s time we become educated, folks. Only by learning the truth on a mass scale can we hope to put things right.

        The word "marriage" isn't in the Constitution at all. Does that mean that the government has zero authority in such? If that's the case then it defaults to the individuals involved and each of their choices. They can relate to the religion of their choice, or not. (In America even atheists can be married.)

        So, when individual freedom is at the root of marriage then same sex couples can marry, as defined by those who want to be free in America.

I see this “”in November”” statements all the time, In November we kick out the democrats and we will repeal Obama care and all those unfounded statements.       Take a look at the seats that are up for grasp, most of them are republican seats already only a small amount are democrats. So the republicans get maybe, maybe enough votes to overturn Obama care or any other measure and then? Obama will veto it and the republicans will NOT have enough votes to overturn the veto…that is the reality of it.
      Moreover, by the time Obama is up for re-election many people will see only the positive aspects of his reign and disregard the negative.
      If the right doesn’t find a good solid candidate he will win re-election if he chooses to run.

          But, repealing Obama care will be political suicide for the GOP. They do depend on a large amount of voters ..I call bottom feeders….those that have no or only a minimum of formal education and either low paying or no jobs or living on handouts..and that unfortunately is a reality. A large part of the people that have the most to gain from laws like Obama care are people that also traditionally voted republican…its not the majority but a sizable enough chunk… in a tight race..and it will be tight…losing those votes will mean losing the elections.           Bob properly regards Abraham Lincoln as the Tyrant he was. Up until that time, Secession had been regarded by most Americans as the last resort to unconstitutional action by the Federal government. In fact, until Lincoln started imprisoning newspaper editors, many of them in the North strongly supported the rights of Secession by any state.

          If a man comes to you and says you have violated a contract between the two of you and he wants out, you can do like Lincoln and beat him to a pulp and place your boot on his neck until he agrees to stay in the contract on your NEW terms, but you have not nullified his right to leave it – the war proved nothing except the tyranny of might.

          Wilson came much later, and although he was bad enough, Lincoln was the one who “shredded the 10th Amendment” like Bob says.

The first draft riots weren’t in the 1960′s, but in the 1860′s, in New York!       Let's talk about state's rights. Over a dozen states have VOTED to legalize medical pot. Arrests are down because Obama respectes the rights of those states and how they want to regulate pot. Oregon particularly VOTED twice to allow assisted suicide. Ashcroft personally tried to toss those elections. He lost.

      Ain't state's rights great! Oops maybe not. Please clarify that state's rights are OK if you agree with it. What excuses do you have for the Bush administration denying particularly big issues?

        The Constitution designates certain rights to the Federal Government, and the rest are left to the States. Ever since the 1860′s the Federal Government has usurped more & more power & more & more rights from the States, like it or not.
        The War began when the Northern States’ Senators tried to enact a law requiring all Territories admitted to the Union as States must be “free States” only, no more could be admitted as “slave states”. The Southern States (rightfully) saw this as an infringement on States’ Rights & lawfully rebelled to leave the Union. The rebellion failed & the result is what we have today. By the way it was NOT a “civil war” because the rebels never had any intention of overthrowing the Union government or of replacing any of the duly elected servants.

          Never omit that the federal budget was sourced from cotton tariffs (taxes) imposed on cotton exported from slave states. Tariffs from South Carolina and Georgia comprised 80% of Federal budget. Allowing the successions that were guaranteed before any states would agree to become a union would have shutdown the federal government in times before the magnificent Federal Reserve Act was enacted

    I’am 63yrs old and just finnished watching the video of those kids singing at Lincoln Memorial and I want to tell I had TEARS comming down my face hearing those kids sing the National Anthem.I was never so PROUD to be an AMERCIAN as then.I’am very PROUD of those young “men and women” and hope that when they get older they will run for the Senate or Congress and will replace the “GARBAGE” that is there now.Your parents should be and probably are VERY PROUD of you.Thank you for being TRUE AMERCIANS.

            Although I'd not like it I would stand up for their right to free speech. I watched some skin heads march in VA and booed them with MY free speech. After all, this is America. Would you deny something being said simply because you don't like it?

            BTW, I'd support a property owner of land not open to the public to deny such a demonstration in support of anything but what they want to support. After all, privacy is privacy.

    I applaud your support of civil disobedience, but your offhand reference to President Lincoln as a Tyrannical Dictator was a little over the top for my taste. If Mr. Lincoln had ignored the isolation and blockade of Fort Sumpter in Charleston Harbor, he would have failed in his oath of office. If he had not summoned the militia to put down an illegal rebellion, i.e. those who fired on the American fort Sumpter with cannon, he would have been subject to impeachment. You cannot dismiss all the actions taken by Southern extremists and sympathizers to cherry pick your facts and condemn the sitting president for calling up the troops. There was more than enough blame to spread around to all the leaders, North and South. Inflamed passions lead to war (i.e. The Spanish American War). I will grant you that Mr. Lincoln did overreach himself with his Habeus Corpus rulings and similar stretches such as suppression of some newspapers. Compare him to Obama and his indiscretions are but tiny footnotes compared to the actions of our current president. You must judge people objectively and mitigate actions by their context. Until you express universal and complete disapproval of Manifest Destiny, of land purchases and of participation in World War II, you have not the legs to stand on in your one-sided contentious consignment of Abraham lincoln to the trash heap of history.

      Many at the time, and apparently several of us writing to you now do not see any difference between the “secession” of the colonies of America from Great Brittan and the secession of the southern states during the War of Northern Aggression.

      In fact, the Declaration of Independence talks of one people separating themselves from another. So your idea of an “illegal rebellion” does not hold water, unless you consider the American Revolution also to be illegal.

        You will have to find a different reason to impeach him, being Muslim is NOT reason enough to impeach him. Nowhere does it say in the constitution that the president of the US has to be a christian or that he can not be a Muslim, Hindu, Wicca, or even a Satan worshiper.     We can demonstrate our patriotism anywhere and anytime we so desire, and no one should interfere. Those fine young people felt the need to sing the National Anthem to show their love for their country, because the Lincoln Memorial reminded them that we once had great President that put his country before himself. When I went to school in a little old one room school house (many, many years ago) We pledged allegiance to the flag and country every morning, and sang the National Anthem. I don’t recall when they stopped this practice, but they never should have.

    One thing I do not like about the article, is calling the guard a brown shirted thug. That individual is just a normal American citizen, doing what he supposed was right, even though it was ill conceived. Too many people in our country worry too much about offending someone. If there are people who are offended by a group of patriotic young people singing our National Anthem, then they are in the wrong place. I am sure the guard is aware of this now.

    “We the People” say, that is who! I think that we, the people, have had enough of this little experiment, trying to find out if there is a better way to be governed. We tried one way for over 200 years, and some people didn’t like it, so they wanted to change our culture, perhaps to be more like Europe. We knew that the nation could survive the hit from this temporary test, and we were right (pun intended). But now the experiment is over, and we have a satisfying answer to the question.

    We do the same thing in engineering, by trying a new design for a computer or cell phone or other “new and improved” gadget.

    It’s time to go back to the original specification, since that one went through all the proper process. Marketing spec, design spec, design review, debate, ratification, and most importantly, the test of time. In the case of the American Representative Republic, this is the product we have for sale here, and if you don’t like it, you are free to purchase it from another vendor at their location. I believe also that the powers that Mr. Lincoln exercised were to be temporary powers, and as soon as possible they were returned to the people where they STILL belong.

    You are spot on about Lincoln, but I believe the actual number of Americans that died in that horrible war was closer to 600,000. That was a very large % of that days population. Slavery, of course, was a terrible evil, and the Confederacy would have had to end it within a few more years w/o all the terrible slaughter. THAT IS NOT WHY LINCOLN FOUGHT ANYWAY; HE FOUGHT TO PRESERVE THE UNION. So many people now do not know the history of that time period. That really doesn’t matter so much in todays crises, but the thugs that have taken over Washington, and now are moving as fast as possible to take over all of America do matter.       President Lincoln is recorded as saying that he didn’t care if slavery continued as long as the Union was preserved. When he “freed” the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation, it applied ONLY to the States that had seceded & were NOT under Union control. (He did not believe them to be on equal footing with whites, & thought they were too dumb to be educated.) It was equivalent to Mr. Obama declaring that certain laws in Mexico are not valid. General Grant owned slaves until slavery in the (Northern) United States was outlawed in Dec, 1865, while General Lee freed the slaves gifted to him by his father-in-law. People (in general) “up North” even today have a lower opinion of blacks than people “down South”, and that goes back to before the War began in 1861. History is fascinating when you learn the truth, so you won’t be doomed to repeat it. Never again must America EVER elect another President with ANY association to IL.

        Cameron, you are wrong about Grant. He only ever owned one slave (which is one too many), but Grant freed him in 1859. William Jones was probably “given” to Grant by his father-in-law. Keep in mind that in 1859 Grant was deperately poor when he freed William.

        Lee on ther hand probably only personally owned one slave (again, one too many). The 1000+ slaves at Arlington were owned by his father-in-law and upon his death in 1858, Lee became the executor of the estate with a provision that all slaves would be freed within five years. In 1862 Lee issued an “deed of manumission” for all the slaves of the Custis estate who were still behind Confederate lines. For all intents, Arlington was already in Federal hands and all had been “freed” before the order was issued.

    Well, Beck set them straight…he said I WILL PRAY!!!! I was cheering him on in my livingroom…WE THE PEOPLE SHOULD ALL STAND UP TO THESE TYRANTS IN D.C.
    And as far as the mosque is concerned…there ARE ways to prevent it from going forward, you know, permit problems…construction issues, all sorts of reasons.

The city staff from mayor down likes the idea of a multi-million dollar mosque there that might draw in millions of pilgrims from around the world to spend their money.       I come from a long line of military vets & patriots, all the way back to 1066 & the Battle of Hastings. Must be the Viking bloodline. My forefathers served w/Washington in the French&Indian War through Valley Forge, & every conflict since. I salute every vet who has answered this country’s call, even though my country didn’t want me (hearing impairment) during the late ’60′/early ’70′s. What the Hell’s hearing got to do with anything? I had good eyesight & I could already shoot well. What country boy couldn’t back then? So, I’m not a vet, but not by my choice, & I hope you vets don’t hold it against me. My first cousin was a medic in a Ranger unit, & he saw enough s#!^ for both of us. God bless you all.

    Just another blog to ramp up controversy where there is none. The kids didn’t get dragged off in handcuffs, did they? If it had been anybody else, they would have been treated the same. It’s a big deal over nothing, and I see postings here that are going all over the place, from gay marriage to muslims. What’s up with that? We don’t know if it was an act of civil disobedience or not in the kids’ minds. If there were signs saying “no singing,” that would be one thing; but they just felt like singing, so what’s the big stink? I would venture to guess that if a liberal group had gathered and sang a Bob Dylan song, you guys would be all over it.

The point is not the “outburst” of patiotism, but the thuggish approach of a park official to shut it down. It is indicative of a culture of “anti-Americanism”.     Our young people did a wonderful job on our National Anthem. I don’t understand why that would be a problem, actually President Lincoln would be proud of them. Who made a law that we can’t sing the National Anthem anywhere we want in the USA?

    A great opportunity was lost. What should have happened: Seven days a week, ten times a day, fifty or more people show up at the Lincoln Memorial and sing the National Anthem. It would have been something that the entire nation (and certainly the media) could not ignore.

I taught American Government and Economics and encouraged that spirit to my students over the years that they exhibited that day. Such is still the hope for a future America.

      They are trying to remove all studies on the Constition and people’s rights from any school study now. To a certain extent they have done so. When I was in school we had a course called “Civics”. It went into great depth how our government was organized and run since it was created. We spent weeks just on the Consitution. Now it is part of American History – and they cover it, if at all, in one brief lesson. Even then, most of the study is on the later amendments. Few teachers even mention the Bill of Rights.

    I’m sure all these kids are pretty good Americans and God Bless them. Since Conservative groups always say they know the laws and right and wrong I would bet 10 to 1 that this group knew the rules of public gatherings and especially their leader. They could have been just tourists checking out the sights but they choose to demonstrate their singing talents. In that case they would have needed a permit just like everyone else. Now if you believe all persons should be able to sing or demonstrate without a permit then maybe I would agree with you. The National Park Service can not be selective on any given day without prior approval for anyone. That makes it fair for all. (If one group does it then all will want the same favor at anytime)Would you allow the New Black Panthers(all 10 members) to break out in song on the Lincoln Memorial? That would give you a whole weeks worth of controversy on this site. This is not about good messages or bad messages for whoevers gathers here but about policy. I also bet if These Young Americans for Freedom did apply for a permit before their trip I would think it would have been granted. I’m not sure if the Communist Party would be given a permit or If the neo-Nazi’s broke out and sang Horst Wessels “die fahne hoch”. That would be dispicable yet okay under your “free for all” rules.

      Since when is singing the National Anthem in front of one of our national memorials a “demonstration.” They were showing the love they have for this country and its freedoms.         If you go to a National campground you almost always have to get a permit. If you don’t all the spaces (campsites) will be taken. The National Park Service isn’t being mean or un-American. These young Americans could have gotten the required permit and sang to their hearts content. No one was arrested,only told to move along. Freedom doesn’t mean you can go against the law. If you look at the video most of the Kids were already assembled and singing so it looks more like a set up instead of spontaneity. It’s a moving video but if they were allowed then many other groups would want the same right.

As far as that tape of him admitting to being a Muslim, it is obviously cut and edited. Anyone can see that. If somebody can do that to help besmirch the President, they can do anything.     The best word I read here was “outnumbered”. YES!! It’s good to know that these politically correct leftwing malcontents/politicians are outnumbered by a majority of the American people. It is my sincere hope that we can take back our country in the 2010 and 2012 (and beyond) elections. If we can’t vote out this leftwing Democrap party regime in the next few election cycles, my fear is that we may need another late 18th century type revolution – which of course should only be a last resort.

    I agree with Marting Luther King Jr on this issue. It is our civil responsibility to obey a just law. Likewise it is our civil responsibility to disobey an unjust law. What is the difference? A just law agrees with the Law of Nature, and of Nature’s God. An unjust law clashes with the Higher Law.

    This puts the responsibility on the citizen, not the judicial elite or legislative elite.

      But God didn’t change things the moment He got a prayer. He waited until most of the people were praying for relief before He gave it. Don’t expect sudden miracles because you said a thirty second prayer one time.

    I have rad through this, and many other comments.

    First you cannot impeach Obama. He has too many bought and paid-for people in Congress.

    Secondly, kudos to the singers. Excellent job. Too bad some group does not go there and sing “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. I do think it is a shame that Patriotic songs cannot be sung in patriotic places any more.

    Thirdly, it is unfortunate that there is not more discussion of some of the laws that were forced through Chicago-Gangster style. Such as I finally got my full SS, and now 17% of what I got is by Presidential Pressure stripped from me by the government to pay for the poor, mostly illegals. Leaving me poor again, but NOT getting what was contracted for before Obama and Congress changed the laws. I do not think I am the only one who will have to decide between food, heat, or medicine, …or death…, in the fall!!

    Now I no longer have enough to live on decently left. I paid according to the law, under duress, for all my working life, and now Obama is taking it away to give it to.. Illegals, mostly, it appears.

    I suspect I am not the only one in this situation. Wonder how many people care about the Government breaking faith with us and leaving us without enough to live on from what was taken from us by law, force, and a contractual promise, now abrogated, through the years.

    Would you folks out there really intend to treat your old parents so shabbily? I wonder. Obama and many Congresspeople apparently do!

      What is sad to me is that we were assured that we were saving for our retirement by paying into this. Now it is an entitlement that Congress can cut off at a whim! But I’ll bet that the tax itself will not go away!

      The main reason (I think) that they are complaining about it being broke is not that there isn’t enough money coming in for the retired people. It is because there isn’t enough money coming in for all their give-away programs and they think they should reduce the retirement benefits to pay for the rest they want.

        45caliber–the reason there isn’t enough money is because all administrations took from it–or should I say “stole?” And they never paid it back. The program was working fine but no they couldn’t leave it alone. All administrations stole from this program for years for their so-called agendas. Now they want to privatize it. All I can say is don’t count on any money left in a few years.

          You are quite correct. The politicians kept seeing that money pile up since more were paying in than taking out and they just couldn’t see it sitting there without wanting to use it to buy more votes.

    These students sang their hearts out for this great nation, and for those who have forgotten…THIS IS AMERICA!!! The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!

    These young people ought to be commended – not reprimanded – for reminding everyone that we are not a nation of tyranny, not a nation of fascism, not a nation of socialism or communism, not a nation of Islam, not a nation of anarchy, not a nation of atheism, and certainly not a nation overrun by a bunch of rogue idiots trying to do away with our freedom and liberty. We the People have spoken!!!

    More and more of our young students are seeing the light and understand that they have been lied to by corrupt teachers in our public schools throughout this land all along who have taught them to hate freedom and embrace any one of these doctrines above in the name of political correctness.

    The U.S. Park Police had no right whatsoever in an attempt to silence them for singing our national anthem, which is a violation of free speech protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I think it’s great that a lot of people decided to stand up for these students by joining them. It is the kind of “civil disobedience” this country needs!!!

      If a school choir sings our national anthem in the middle of a Federal Park forest and there is no one there to hear it…are they still breaking the law?

    I have not read all the responses, and perhaps Im just repeating something. Im a Canadian, and so I have a very objective viewpoint of American politics. Basically I like the US and am pro-American. I basically agree with Bob, but he is on the verge of violating the requirements put on the responders, by calling the security officer a facist and a thug. A likely guess is that Bob was very angry when he wrote that. My experience is that when a person is angry at someone, his concept of that person and the situation will be distorted, and his reasoning will be off. Also he will way way overrate the situations importance. I knew a guy that had an anger problem. One time someone scratched a key along two doors of his nice car. He got raving mad. Flipped out. Note the ratio between severity of problem and amount of anger. Then a couple of years later he got in a dispute over a woman and killed the guy. Same ratio.

    Since the government own 1 in every 3 acres of land iin the United States, last week a Congess person uncovered a memo being passed around in the Interior Department that the DOJ lawyers are trying to figuring out away, to seize private property, without having to require a vote by the House and Senate. There is ranch and farm land surrounded by federal land all over in the west., Be it controlled by BLM, Forrest Service, or a created wilderness area under Interiors controll in the last few years. Utah has 3 acres of federal owned land to the 1 private owned. When asked by the Congess person what the heck this was, response, it was just an idea. For you marxist muslim moron lovers and hard core communist democrats, everyone who is a independant private landowner will just have to take a hard line and kick some ass and skulls loose, when private ownership is stopped or is taken away by a agency idoit. If the citizens don’t wake up and see what this marxist muslim moron and his radical socialist thugs are working at for total government ownership, and Omoron is trying to become a dictator. Talking and patty cakes playing don’t make communists stop their creeping crud.       The government spends enough money buying land to almost balance the budget (prior to Oblama of course). And for some of the silliest reasons!

      But the one that really annoys me is a land grab around Austin, TX, that came into affect during Clinton’s time to “buy” green votes.

      The Dept. of Interior stated that they were going to “buy” land near Austin to be used as a bird sactuary for a bird that “might become endangers if its habitat used in migration was changed”. They gave themselves 30 years to “buy” the land IF they had the money at the time and IF they felt like it. The land was valued at over $10,000 an acre. It promptly dropped in value to $1000 an acre, less than most people there had paid for it.

      But the real problem came up later. A farmer died and left his farm to his heirs. The IRS showed up. They were accessing the inheritance tax based on a value of $13,000 an acre – but the heirs could only sell the land for $1000 an acre to the government – who wasn’t in the market right then. So to keep the land the heirs would have to pay about $6000 MORE per acre than they could get for it later. And there were several hundred acres of it. The IRS agreed to take the land in leu of the tax. That basically means they didn’t buy any of it – they simply seized it in its entirety as soon as the present owner died, leaving nothing to the heirs. Bush put a stop to the inheritance tax but it kicks back in at the end of this year. So many more familes are going to see their property taken for NO COMPENSATION AT ALL!

We should not take a step backward by employing the race card. Conservative and Libertarian ideals are for ALL American’s, regardless of race. Patriotism is rare indeed these days, and singing the Anthem at the Lincoln Memorial is a necessary reminder of who and what we are.

    Reading higher I realize that Clare was talking about Congress not the Administration. Still only one. Still only the current one could be sued and I bet there is a law somewhere protecting them from lawsuits.

    Many Americans are friends and “family” of mine. I am sad for them and for the world. Why do conspiracy theories keep popping up? Well why do economic theories keep popping up? Because many times there is truth to the theory – we’ve heard of the theory of Gravity? Well it certainly exists, no one can explain about how it all works with everything else – no one. But we don’t go flying off (not everyone) the planet because we don’t understand gravity. The truth really seems to be that the prison has already been built to contain the entire population. You are being told what to think, what to do, who to pay, where and when you can do things. Our children and theirs will have no freedom to think and do for themselves, all will be regulated and controlled – no independent thought. Slaves. Anyone can now be instantly criminalized by the system. All communications are monitored to the greatest extent possible (see blackberry). Yes folks, 1984 has long come and gone, we are now beginning the nightmare. It is probably too late to stop it.

James quoting that it will be illegal to recite the “Pledge of Allegiance” when these fools in DC will do away with the “Star-Spangled Banner” and the “Pledge of Allegiance” by replacing them with “I Pledge Mutiny to Freedom” and “America Has Fallen! We Surrender” respectively. We would end up seeing a United Nations flag replacing “Old Glory”. It would be illegal to hoist and fly “Old Glory” and to burn and desecrate the Mexican flag. America would end up like a prison and the American Dream would be dead and forgotten, all because of DC’s powerful grasp with the help of a global conspiracy to bring this once great nation down to hell.


    I can’t wait until our self-appointed powers that be utter Yamamoto’s famous words: “I’M AFRAID WE’VE ONLY AWAKENED A SLEEPING GIANT”! Let’s all wake up and show them we are no longer asleep! Remeber, one percent of the population will never control ninety nine percent!
