The Rape Of Amy Alkon

While preparing to go through airport security on March 31, Amy Alkon got teary when she noticed that everyone in the line she was in was receiving an “enhanced pat-down” by Transportation Security Administration gropers.

Her mind racing at the prospect, she said she decided “these TSA lackeys who serve the government in violating our rights just don’t deserve my quiet compliance.” She was determined she wouldn’t go through the scanner and allow a government employee to see her naked, all for the privilege of flying from Los Angeles to New York. And then there’s the issue in her mind about whether the scanners are even safe.

So, as the pat-down began, she let the tears flow. “In fact,” she writes, “I sobbed my guts out. Loudly. Very loudly. The entire time the woman was searching me.”

But Amy Alkon was unprepared for the sexual assault that was about to take place. But then, who could prepare for such a thing?

“Nearing the end of this violation,” she writes, “I sobbed even louder as the woman, FOUR TIMES, stuck the side of her gloved hand INTO my vagina, through my pants. Between my labia. She really got up there. Four times. Back right and left, and front right and left. In my vagina. Between my labia. I was shocked — utterly unprepared for how she got the side of her hand up there. It was government-sanctioned sexual assault.”

After the assault was over, Alkon yelled to the woman, “You raped me.” She took the woman’s name — it was Thedala Magee — to see if she could file sexual assault charges against her.

She contacted a lawyer about the possibility of filing charges, but was told it probably wouldn’t go anywhere. Alas, this is America, where government-sanctioned sexual assault is now allowed by law. Put on a fancy uniform, get a week’s training, and anyone can grope as many of his fellow men or women as he pleases.

So Alkon did what came perfectly natural to a writer. She wrote about her experience. She told the world — or at least those who read her blog — about the rape. And she identified her rapist as Thedala Magee.

Magee hired a lawyer who contacted Alkon, asking her to remove the post, threatening a defamation suit and asking for a settlement of $500,000. Free speech lawyer Marc Randazza has stepped in to assert Alkon’s right to post about her pat-down experience and “to defend both her definition of the pat-down as rape and, regardless of that, her right to rhetorical hyperbole,” according to Forbes.

“After [the agent Thedala] Magee’s assault on Ms. Alkon’s vagina and dignity, Ms. Alkon exercised her First Amendment right to recount this incident to others in person and through her blog,” writes Randazza. “This was not only her right — it was her responsibility.”

The Constitution was written to guarantee our rights — endowed by our Creator — against unreasonable searches and to protect our freedom to say and write what we want (regardless of how uncomfortable that makes some). And laws are on the books to protect us from assault.

Amy Alkon was violated by Thedala Magee. Whether that violation constituted rape in the eyes of the law is debatable. What is not debatable is that Amy Alkon felt like she was being raped. And had the rapist not been wearing a government uniform, she would have had a case in a court of law.

Amy Alkon has taken a stand against the police state. The cards are stacked against her. Just ask the Texas Legislature, which considered a bill to ban TSA agents from groping or taking naked photos of passengers before the Federal thugocracy threatened to impose a no-fly zone over the State.

It’s the government’s position that a uniform and special training gives its agents the authority to break the law. But what is morally wrong for one to do is morally wrong for a thousand. And what is morally wrong for a thousand is morally wrong for the government.

But unless more Amy Alkons step up, the Thedala Magees will be running every aspect of our lives.

It’s obvious that our government — neither law enforcement nor the courts — is not interested in protecting Alkon (or any of us) against one of its own. So it’s our right, our responsibility, to protect ourselves. And we must stand with Amy Alkon.

    A good place for Amy Alkon to start would be to learn everything she can about her attacker. When was she hired? Who hired her? How much training has she had? Is she legally bonded to perform invasive searches?
    If that woman has ANYTHING negative in her background (stalker, drugs, work record, known associates, membership in cult groups), then she owes it to herself to rip the TSA a new one. Is it safe to assume that America’s FEMINISTS have made no attempt to help Amy?
    Thedala Magee may be a sexual predator. Alphabet agencies have a long record of hiring incompetent space cadets who belong behind bars, and the TSA seems to proving that Obummer’s brand of transparency is a bogus as TSA’s ability or willingness to protect flying Americans.

            I don’t know, I wouldn’t think of what happened as an assault -
            Here’s one definition via Clark University and apparently the definition varies in different parts of the USA and the world, but this was more than an assault. A sexual assault – I have no problem with the term rape being used. I’m flying soon and if it happened to me, I would consider it a form of rape.

            Penetration of ANY orifice by ANY object,
            Force or threat of force, or
            Sexual contact against the will of the victim.”

      I never heard of this incident and it is very disgusting and this Thedala should have been fired. If this is normal TSA procedure to do this to a passenger then the whole outfit stinks. Change what you are doing TSA or disband. Now on the subject of SC going after Feminists for not doing anything; probably for the same reason the Conservative Women of America have done nothing to help in the Amy Alkon case. Maybe neither knew about her personal situation and I doubt if anyone one this site knew her story either. I know SC will now make a personal effort to contact the NOW organization and also the CWA to find out why they dropped the ball on this. To do anything less SC would just be idle chatter from you.

While his administration is anything but “transparent”, I find Obama himself, personally to be as transparent as new glass.           Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President or any other public official save exactly to the degree he himself stands by the country.

        Lest some regressive (eg: jhhodges, et al) complain that I disrespect poor oButthead (our non-pResident):

        Public Offices of power are owned by the People. Respect is given to an Office in transference of the People’s respect for our Country, Its founding principles, Its Founding Fathers and those who have given their all for Its preservation and for Its People (ie: We, The People).

        Officeholders who disrespect the Peoples’ Office, the Peoples’ wishes or the People themselves, and Officeholders who do not earn the respect due Office (as per the People’s respect above), deserve only the Peoples’ contempt…as any outed tyrant knows (or soon to be outed).

        A good history lesson (the non-rewritten version) would do you good.

        Interesting to note that this well documented comment appears to be being ignored among the respondents to this article. I do not doubt that the TSA practices are invasive and personally I have been angered and shamed on the part of my fiance after her treatment when flying to visit me. But this woman’s version appears to be suspect. Clearly we are forewarned. If anyone is concerned about their personal space they should forego flying. Just the seating is going to entail too much personal contact with strangers to suit me.

        But what really prompted me to comment is the total ignorance and paranoia in the comments in general. America, your ignorance is your own responsibility. Stuck with high interest credit cards–your fault. A house you can’t afford—your fault. Politicians who lie with impunity and answer only to their highestbidder campaign financers–your fault.

        Arming yourself with knowledge is the only answer. And I do not mean just opinions that you agree with. We all must become better informed and insist on better government. Start with campaign finance laws.

            Joe h when Amy purchased her ticket she agreed to the rules. She could have agreed to the scan but perhaps she decided to have another column to write about her experience. Flying is not our only mode of travel so Amy chose her poison and must live with her decision of a body search. Don’t spill your milk and then cry over spilled milk.

If you are ok with having this happen to your wife, then fine YOU take her there and watch wile it happens! This is why I don’t fly with my wife when she goes on business. I would have BIG problems with someone doing this to her!! I could go to england or France about twice a year if I wanted but I won’t stand and watch my wife be assaulted!

            To thinking about, For her it was either fly 6-?Hrs. from Cal. to NY.or take a train or bus 4-7days, plus the round trip. I live in Alaska it is fly or ferry to the lower 48(Bellingham WA) to get to make those choices. So we “put up with the insult of groping but we don’t have to do it silently whether we are by nature or by employment obnoxious, or as sweet and mellow as an angel.

          that if I were a single mom or just needing a job… I would not, I could not be a government TSA employee touching people in those ways… it is a standard of ethics and morality, for me. It is not right to feel other people’s bodies and their private parts even when dressed, unless I am married to them. I also know that the TSA gov union jobs were created to assault and weaken the American people, not to protect them… it is unConstitutional and an assault on our FREEDOM.

          I have NO sympathy for gov TSA workers hired by the thug Marxists.

And I do at every opportunity, as these criminals (some fill their victims full of bullets -61 in an unwarranted recent assault case in AZ- impunely, so far) seem to fit their official task to ‘perfection’.         Actually….Chertoff wants the x-ray machines to remain where they are, no matter how dangerous they are to your health, or those of the TSA agents…because….drumroll please….he is one of the executives of the company that sold those machines to the TSA!!!

        As a former police officer, I have much to say about this article, and others. It is true that penetration is RAPE! But most courts see this as Sexual assault to certain degree…first, second, or third. In this case, I would say 1st degree.

        When I had to strip search prostitutes…I was NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH THEM! If they were to be touched in the vaginal area…a doctor had to do it. Does that tell you anything? If a police officer today, were to do what the TSA agents do…they would be prosecuted and lose their jobs!

Before we left the house she had changed purses and accidentially left her drivers liscense in the purse she left at home. After playing a thousand questions and allowing some female dwarf TSA agent to feel her up we were allowed to proceed. What was scary was that during the question period TSA called someone in authority who knew the answers to the questions they were asking my wife. Personal questions like who do you work for and mother’s maiden name. Who in gvt. would know that data ahead of time ? Big Brother is trully watching.

If you think I am wrong, just go to an airport & watch for any Muslim Female (head scarf)to go through any type of screening. In most instances they bypass both types of scrutiny. I would normally say use video to verify it, but that may cause “You” to be detained & they have confiscated cameras before. A covert camera hidden in a purse or elsewhere & used discretely have been used to capture this abuse of power. Muslims are exempt from many laws we are required to comply with. Muslims are exempt from ObamaCare & also the tax (fine) imposed on others who don’t comply.       Leaving the question of Islamic colonization aside, it should be clear that the only actual reason for any Government Agencies existence once it exists, is it’s own perpetuation. The more long standing an agency of government is the less likely you will ever run out of reasons to support it. Now that we had an all pervasive homeland security agency you can rest assured it will continue to find reasons real or otherwise , to expand it’s size and scope. Our government is designed to defend it’s self and it holds all the aces.       Last night Homeland Security announced a credible threat of a 9/11 incident. They are saying it is probably going to be a car bomb & either in NYC or Washington DC. I wonder how long it is going to take before you are required to get out of your car, have it sniffed by a K9, your crotch & passengers crotch sniffed before you will be allowed to proceed to your destination. Now, if I was a “Terrorist” (I know it is not PC to use that word), I would use a large U- Haul, Ryder or other large box truck, because surplus artillery shells like are used in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria & other countries are not likely to be used here. In South Africa we have “woman’s month” where we target the abuse of women and children. Sexual assault is any action that anyone takes that embarrasses the person on the receiving end.       Keith, You or someone you know must work for TSA. I am a retired Police Officer and we didn’t “search” prisoners like that. Complete body searches were done in an ER or during total strip downs at the jail. There are less invasive pat-down procedures that can be done. I would not take a $10. an hour position that required me to search someone in that manner.
      Profiling as is done in Israel makes much more sense.

      The search of citizens who have displayed NO suspicious activities is unconstitutional, but most glaringly unproductive. I am all for profiling those who fit the profile of terrorists. It is totally ridiculous to search the 90+% of travelers who do not fit the profile. Historically speaking, since 9/11 the only terrorists who have been caught prior to completing their acts have, #1, been coming into the US from overseas, and #2, FIT THE PROFILE! There is no valid reason to continue searching domestic travelers (flights staying within the US) who don’t fit the profile.

    You have ignored the fact that there are principles involved and enshrined in our constitution, which defend individual liberty regardless of the threat. The mere existence of a threat does not excuse the loss of liberty or the rise of a police state. Hitler used the idea of the ‘threat’ of the Jews to build his police state and the German’s bought it. This government is using the same formulae – create an emergency then another; create a victim group (you) or threatened class then find someone or a group to blame. All the while, citizens who buy this BS willingly hand over more and more liberty until they are safe from everyone but their own government. A better solution than these assaults by TSA thugs would be to arm everyone on the plane, including the crew and pilots. I recommend you do some reading and thinking instead of repeating knee-jerk talking points. Oh, and by the way, spell checkers work, as do courses in grammar. Why not invest in one of them?     As was explained to me a number of years ago, if there is any penetration, and it doesn’t matter what is doing the penetrating, then it is rape. If this were not a state-sanctioned activity because someone has decided that those choosing to travel have no right to safety and security in their persons and property, then the offender would already be behind bars. This had to have happened in front of dozens of witnesses.

    I really have no problem with airport security doing complete pat downs. Israel, which has the best airport/airline security record for a number of years now, pats down EVERY single person boarding a plane. They are done quickly, privately, politely, and professionally. No pat-down, no flight. But they maintain the highest level of professionalism for it. (It makes one thing that the Israeli airport security gets more training just for the pat-down part than US security gets for the entire job.) The other thing is that the pat down is one of the very last security steps in a series of security steps that includes profiling and starts BEFORE people even arrive at the airport. Interestingly enough, I’ve not heard of any moslem groups or islamic rights groups or human rights groups complaining that moslems get fully searched and patted down when flying out of Israel. It is only the US that bows so far to such pressure that we sexually assault our own children and grandmothers and leave the people that most closely match the description of our attackers and try not to offend them or check if they are safe.

    This is one of the reasons that I do not fly and intend to maintain that position so long as TSA is run like a totally ineffective PC Asylum. If they were a private business rather than a government entity, they would already have gone out of business for being totally ineffective. (Not only have they not caught anyone or stopped any attacks so far, they would NOT have caught anyone of the attackers in the last 10 years, including the 9/11 hijackers, who did not break ANY the applicable laws for airline safety (even in what they could carry onto the plane) until they actually stood up WITH the box cutters and started the hijacking itself. (Yes, airport security knew they had the box cutters and could not legally prevent them from carrying them onto the plane.) TSA has been completely ineffective on airport security 100% of the time since they replaced the local airport security. I would rather have 100% of passengers pass through the metal detector and their carry-on x-rayed, sniffers and maybe chemical tests for explosives, and that is it. Lock the cockpit door as soon as the flight crew board (and before any passengers get on), and leave it locked until after everyone else is off the plane. If anyone stands up and starts to act threatening, leave it to the air marshals (if one is on the plane) or the other passengers. Short some kind of weapon to actually damage the electronics or physical control structures, there is little that can take down a plane from the passenger compartment. (That includes bullet holes through the outer skin of the plane, which despite Hollywood, will not automatically rip huge portions off the plane, throw people outside, or cause the plane to crash by itself.) Most of the weapons that CAN take down a plane from the passenger compartment, you wouldn’t have been able to get through airport security in 1995, let alone 2001 or today. Keep the flight crew safe, and there is almost nothing they can do to take down the whole plane.

    For 9/11? They could not legally prevent the hijackers from boarding. They could not legally keep them from carrying the box cutters on. The cockpit was seldom, if ever, secured. (Part of the reason for this is that until after 9/11, Boeing could not get federal permission to change the cockpit door, meaning that they could not have put in a more secure cockpit door had they thought to and wanted to. Once the terrorists started the hijacking, it was illegal for the passengers to interfere at all. (Yes, those brave folks that took the plane down in Pennsylvania rather than leaving the hijackers do what they want broke FEDERAL law.) Basically, the entire hijacking process was legally protected on every level. Stopping 9/11 at any point (short of INS arresting them for being in the US on expired visas) would have been a violation of any number of laws. All we need for secure flights today is to keep the more major weapons off the plane. You can not take a plane down with a box cutter, nail file, weed eater, fire axes, or most anything else off the wall of prohibited items if you cannot get into the cockpit. (I suppose if you had the axes and several hands to wield them for a whole 8 hour flight and spent the whole time trying to chop the plane to pieces, you might have a slight chance of downing the plane if you managed to hit something vital, but no group of passengers today (except maybe a flight full of liberals) would leave you to it.) Even the modern handgun, if it failed to hit something vital, would not be able to take down a plane from the passenger cabin.

    So lets get rid of the intrusive pat-down process as it exists. If we want to pat down, do it the way Israel does it and pat down everyone. (Heck, get them to train our people.) They way it is done now is wrong on a number of fronts, and I could even argue unconstitutional on several areas APART from 4th Amendment violations.

    This is why I don’t want to go anywhere for our 25th wedding anniversary.For years now,hubby and I have talked about going to Italy or Ireland or maybe Hawaii.But,it wasn’t untill the Amy Alkons’ started telling their stories,that I now fear this process. I WILL be an Amy Alkon and I will do more than cry loudly if we are submitted to this ‘physically-immoral rape”! These stories play upon my decision and I just don’t know if I could be a ‘willing’ subject as my doubt’s are stronger than my desire right now. The sad part about this is,when we purchase that ticket,we are relinquishing our physical rights to this search…and that sucks!!!

      Depending on your time frame, my last trip to Europe was on a repositioning cruise. Very relaxing and not much more expensive than a flight. Several of my friends have now switched to driving, boats, and trains. The airlines lost 6 R/T passengers this summer because I explained the problems with non-calibrated Xray machines, and they refused to be gate raped.

It is 10 years later and these “embelishments” to the TSA were added under the current administration,not Bush’s.I flew two years after the attacks and other than the magnometer, I had to take off my shoes, not undergo a gynecological exam. I have a doctor for that.

      The actions of the TSA worker may be legally proven to be an unwanted penetration. In the Revised Code of Washington (state), the following is quoted (I know this didn’t take place in WA, but it is one state’s interpretation):

      RCW 9A.44.060

      Rape in the third degree.

      (1) A person is guilty of rape in the third degree when, under circumstances not constituting rape in the first or second degrees, such person engages in sexual intercourse with another person, not married to the perpetrator:

      (a) Where the victim did not consent as defined in RCW 9A.44.010(7), to sexual intercourse with the perpetrator and such lack of consent was clearly expressed by the victim’s words or conduct, or

      (b) Where there is threat of substantial unlawful harm to property rights of the victim.

      (2) Rape in the third degree is a class C felony.

      Think about it. She believed it.

At this time you could still go to the gate with the passenger. My wifes dad had been shooting groundhogs that morning and had a whole pocket full of 22cal bulletts. He went through the gate and took most of the stuff out of his pockets, leaving the bulletts in. when the alarm went off again, the showed them the slip from his Dr saying that he had wires in his chest.     Let me just give this as information. I fly frequently. At the security check, if they point to the new machines I tell them that I opt out. So then they do a pat down. In the last several months, they have been very careful to tell me how they are going to pat me down before they actually do it. I think it’s because people like Amy Alkon have PUBLICLY complained about what TSA did to her. More people should opt out and relate their experiences publicly like Amy did. You really don’t want to use the new machines, it’s not safe. There again, they changed them so that your privates are not pictured like they used to be. And again, it’s because people have complained PUBLICLY.

As I answered to a recent post, I flew in 2003, I walked through the magnometer and was pulled out of line and had to take my shoes off. I was not groped when GWB was in office.     I know that this idea might sound extreme and it might not be “good for business” but if all of us stopped “flying” to our travel destinations and started taking the bus, the train, a boat, or our car, leaving the airline industry to go belly up in debt and bankruptcy, the TSA would stop these disgusting violations of human dignity immediately.       That would only work for people on vacation. People like my wife that work for others and have to travel as a part of their employment don’t have the time to take a boat to England or France. It’s real easy for you guys that don’t have to travel to say stop when you have nothing to lose, but my wife has invested her life in her job, is very respected in her field and has 25 years in it. She has no choice but to travel if she wants to keep her job!!

    I drive to the Canadian Border and go through Canada to fly overseas and never fly here anymore. At least in Canada, I, an actual American, get treated like an American used to be. Won’t fly any American Commerccial Planes while the TSA remains.

Maybe she would train the female guards how to aggressively “check” all the women. If we didn’t see all this happening before our eyes we wouldn’t believe what is happening.       My solution is to not vote in any incumbent. The party affiliation will not be a problem if the people are changed regularly. Pat downs are just another way to “divide and conquer” the population. As long as the people accept these violations, as a necessary means to travel, they will have them. If everybody quit flying and stood their ground by refusing, things would change very quickly. Problem is people think they have to get there instantly. Tell the Govt NO.     Amy should sue – All Americans should stand up and refuse to go through this humiliation to get on a plane – especially when the not ALL flying public is required to go through this – I don’t fly – if I can’t drive myself, I don’t go – that simple – yes it takes planning but to me it’s more than worth it.     I am not as brave as Amy, keeping my name from you. I was arrested (in court) for contempt of court because I would not accept the court’s appointed attorney. I never consented to that nor to the charges leveled against me, as I was not guilty of any crime. I was ordered to undergo a “Lunacy Evaluation, ASAP” but with no attorney to consent for me, the evaluation could not be given. I was held for 119 days until I finally consented to go for the evaluation by hiring an attorney, who by the way, was a member of the British Accredited Registry (BAR); where else do you think their Title of Nobility “Esquire” comes from?

    During my incarceration, I was subjected to such things as being forced to shower in front of female guards, cavity searches, and shakedowns including being forced to strip and lie naked on a concrete floor for hours while the deputies went from cell to cell turning everything in the cells upside down in search of contraband. I considered the cavity searches to be anal rape, and I can empathize fully with Amy. I have yet to fly anywhere, because I feel violated, even reading about such occurrences. Kudos to her for her courage to speak out.

      The police, the court appointed attorneys, even the hired lawyers to some degree, and the Judge to some extent are all on the same side… who is on the side of the victim accused of a crime????

      The accused [us] makes a deal with the accuser [LEO] through a mediator or arbitrator [lawyer] and the Judge [court] just reads what has been agreed upon… real justice… unless you go to trial… then what is your jury of peers a bunch of liberal sheeple??

      Most of the police are pigs who break the law themselves and if they wish they can mess with you by accusing you of a crime even if they have to lie and fabricate a story, then they waste your time making you appear in court in the city far from your home and waste your money paying fees (to pay for their pensions) and ruin your life, and reputation and hurt your family and finances… just pathetic… why do we not fight as a whole, united?

    There’s only one way we are going to stop this illegal intrusion on our rights. Everyone needs to contact the airlines and let them know we are not going to ever fly again until this ceases. There are other way to get where you are going: drive, trains, buses etc. I realize that due to time restraints and locations, flying is the only way to get there, but if you can find an alternate way to get there -take it. Once the airlines start losing millions of dollars, they will do something about it.

    Everyone hates the searches and pat downs, however I had to read Amy’s account over several times.Her actions and reactions seem a little bizarre and over the top.Her being a writer it may be she was just looking for a story or some financial gain.Having served on juries I have learned to look at both sides and try to find cause for actions.I know the above article is just a fragment of what could be said of the incident but in my judgement she lacks a little credibility and may have a tough time in court.I have never seen anyone tear up and have a breakdown due to a search.Other than that The Pack is Back!!

        I agree that no one should be subjected to the intrusive searches by the TSA but making assertions to this woman’s character is really going too far, don’t you think? None of us on this board know a thing about Amy Alkon and in the meantime the reputation and character of another woman is being harmed with the potential of physical violence toward her! This is also aggreggious, especially if Amy Alkon is being less than truthful and after reading her own account of what happened 3 times now, I am not at all sure about her allegations. The accusation of rape is serious and in this case should not have been used at all, in my opinion. Assault, possibly, but rape?

        And again, there are two different issues going on here: The unconstitutionality of the TSA and second, the allegations of a serious criminal action, ie. rape. I think it is generally agreed that most people do not agree with The Patriot Act which brought us the TSA, but the separate issue is the criminal claim against the TSA agent by Amy Alkon, which for all we know could be false. It is still innocent until proven guilty, isn’t it???

      I hear what you’re saying, but if she was the only one, I’d think twice. I’ve had my dealings with them which is why I will no longer fly. I have a large lump on my stomach because of the lack of expertise of a surgeon. In two instances, I’ve been asked what is under my shirt, both times, I explained what the problem was. Both times, they wouldn’t believe me, and told me to lift my shirt. Both times, after I did, the supervisor was called because I lifted my shirt ‘without provocation’. That was even before the ‘enhanced’ security. At that point I was threatened that I could go to jail, that I could be denied boarding, etc. Guess I’d take her word over the TSA any day of the week.

    What a croc! You have a choice, as I read in one on the comments earlier – you do not have to fly. His option was to go to Canada and then depart by air. A solution may be to offer non secure flights – to take such a flight you will have no insurance nor family have any recourse if the plane is destroyed after you board.     Here’s a theory for you. Perhaps the idea is to control our movements.
    Let me explain. If “they” make it uncomfortable enough to fly, then as several here have suggested, people will stop flying. By getting people to stop flying, and relying on ground transportation,or just staying home, the general movement of the populace can be more easily controlled and regulated. State to state vehicle check points cannot be far in the future.

    There is quiet concern in government about assets leaving, meaning citizens and their money leaving the U.S. for other countries. Perhaps this is a way to reduce the number of citizens from traveling internationally. Maybe the TSA is “looking” for large amounts of cash being carried on a person. Just throwing some theories around.

    I personally feel the answer is to not stop flying, but start making noise about how if a politician wants our vote, they better be willing and able to voice the concerns of their constituents,and get the laws changed. Election years are a powerful time for the little people. All those Political leeches want to gain office or retain their positions.

    If enough people stand up for their rights, write letters, send emails, talk with their vote, then perhaps we can salvage whats left of our freedom. Another idea might be to hold large public demonstrations in front of airports, getting the media involved, letting the politicians know that any of them showing support for the TSA is unlikely to be reelected or voted into office. Make the issue an item to be voted on in the next election. Just an idea.

            Song – I am not a person who goes looking for a reason to claim offense, and will give a person the benefit of the doubt.

            However, when I try to imagine myself in such a situation, as described, it is not something with which I easily come to terms.

            If there is reason to suspect someone might be hiding explosives in body cavities, then I suppose they should be searched if they want to board the plane. But, clearly, this was not the case.

            If we are all to be treated equally as cattle, this is something we need to really think about. Are we willing to go through such dehumanization, to be treated like common criminals, to all be presumed to be enemies of the state? Just whose country is this supposed to be?

            Being exposed to any amount of radiation is unsafe, and for those who fly often, for pregnant women and for children, this is a real hazard. So we are supposed to just be okay with being groped in this manner?

    TSA assault is gov’t sanctioned in the name of “safety”. But they let muslim women get driver’s licenses and ID cards with their stupid burkas over their faces. Go figure. And yet, muslims everywhere are whining discrimination since the 9/11 attacks. Someone said here that profiling is necessary to get the real culprits. That is entirely true, but the gov’t is so afraid of offending muslims that it will never happen. Until the gov’t searches every single muslim and arab-looking person who travels, this “security” crud is just a waste of time and money. It is just jumping through hoops to create the illusion of safety…at the expense of our freedom.

All I can say to your extremely heated and emotional diatribe is that I am glad we don’t live in a country of vigilantes; otherwise, Agent Magee would be hanging from the nearest tree and based on your post, you would see to that personally and you don’t know a thing about agent Magee or Amy Alkon for that matter. I have said it numerous times on this board, including the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. You and libertytrain and JoeH (as good of a guy as he might be Kate8) either don’t read what I post, or have a problem with the decimation of information. Let me see if I can break it down for you very clearly:

            1) The title of this article was incendiary and unsubstantiated and in my opinion would hold more integrity if it had been titled “The Assault of Amy Alkon.”

            2) The TSA needs to be abolished along with The Patriot Act and Homeland Security.

            3) I am concerned that so many REACT to a story without knowing all the facts and without asking some serious questions first.

            4) I AM NOT A REACTIONARY and I believe that reactionary people do more harm than good.

            5) That where the law is concerned you are “innocent until proven guilty” even if that doesn’t always play out that way and even if you don’t agree with it!

            6) The accused in this story deserves some consideration because she is also a human being, a fellow American and also has a life!

            Look. I, and I’m sure others, do understand your points. If this were an isolated incident, and if this issue wasn’t such a real threat to our liberty, both personal and national, I might tend to agree with much of what you are saying.

            The fact is that there is a much bigger issue at stake here, and that is that TSA has taken away our right to protect our own personal boundaries, and it will inevitably lead to even bigger intrusions.

            This is not the first person (man, woman or child) to feel humiliated and degraded by these pat-downs. We all know that it’s not really necessary or even effective. Some people will feel more violated than others, depending on how compliant they’ve come to be. But we shouldn’t have to be put through this type of procedure. It’s inhuman.

            The fact that they lay hands on people at all is a violation. That they touch places which are off-limits to all by our spouses is intolerable.

            The other aspect is that TSA agents are among those “authority” figures who are being conditioned to overstep human boundaries and view others dispassionately in the “line of duty”.

            It is a sad time in America.

As a result, by implication you are saying no security is better than this kind of security; and that I can’t agree with. Along with your right to criticize, you have a duty to suggest ways to solve the problem. You don’t like scanners and xray; I don’t either. You don’t like ‘aggressive pat downs’ and although there is no other kind–I don’t either. You don’t like the Patriot Act, video cameras everywhere,you don’t like cops who merely enforce the law, etc. OK. Lets get rid of all of it.       I am not pro or anti Israel, but they seem to have a handle on flight security. Why not find out what they do? Properly trained dogs can sniff plastic explosives better than any human eyes can find them, metal detectors (like what we had before) can detect metal. Put all hand luggage through screening, which is done, and increase the training time for TSA workers. The second part of TSA workers is to do an extensive background check on each and every one of them.
      My other comment is profiling. We all do it every day. If I see a bunch of males congregated, I don’t walk down through the middle of them, and now, I’m even aware of a group of females. I profile. Are they 70 years old or are they 17? Are they well groomed or sloppy, etc.

As for Ret and Libertytrain I agree Israel has got it right and we should definitely employ their tactics as TSA is ridiculous in their searches and methods; however, again this was NOT A RAPE and TSA agents DO undergo extensive background searches. It takes about 6-8 months to get hired with the TSA if you pass all of their exams, interviews and multiple background checks. Now, what if I told you that Agent Magee was 20 years old, shy, reserved and trying to put herself through college and this was the only job she could find! What if the hyperbole and slander of professional blogger and author Amy Alkon drove her to suicide? Are you still willing to drag her through the court of public opinion, denigrate and vilify her for doing her job as she was trained to do solely on the words of one woman who by her own admission was going to cause “something” to happen????

          Have you flown these last several years? It’s not pretty. And I’m not sure about the training given what I’ve run into over the last several years. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m glad to hit upon airports in this country where they speak English. I don’t think anyone did in Newark or Kennedy Airports the last time I was forced to fly out of and land there. How would you feel if this TSA person has already caused a suicide in some poor unsuspecting mouse of a woman that couldn’t deal with the multiple probes in her vagina? Works both ways -

There are jobs that require this kind of thing; gynecologist, nurse, trained prison guard perhaps; but not TSA weakly trained, generally uneducated check-in attendants. — Sure, there have been occasions where some traveler has had to undergo a body cavity search when they had actual contraband found in their suitcases in years past and I expect today — however, the average traveler should not be expected to have fingers stuck up their body orifices period. I think we should boycott union shops like GM, Chrysler, and other UAW misled organizations….just buy non-union made cars for a couple of months and see what happens. SEIU participating companies should also be boycotted. I realize there would be collateral damage for a short time, but this is a “NOW OR NEVER” time for us.           I don’t know if I can agree with you – there’s no reason for that kind of probing anymore than making a woman take off her diaper or the 6 year old child that was probed and then subjected to a drug test. It isn’t necessary. And remember, they can choose who they subject this search to – you don’t have to be doing anything to be that “random” person they check. They pulled my daughter out to “check” her out a couple months ago and she was flying with her military ID (she’s an Army Major) – I don’t know what they all did to her but she was nearly in tears afterwards as were her very young children when their mommy got pulled out to be “patted” down. It was one of those random tests…happened to me after 9-11 on my way to my mom’s funeral, but that was before they chose to get more personal in their checks.

I think this woman and many many other TSA folks are way out of line based on examples we have been given by those with the ability to talk about their experiences, but I sure as heck hope that many many others aren’t this deplorable. I’ve had several flights these last 10 years and sometimes the TSA folks absolutely suck and sometimes they are ok. It’s been about 50/50 in my own personal experiences.

    I’m sure this happens MUCH more than is reported! I for one, refuse to fly if I’m to be treated like a criminal for flying within the borders of MY country! I refuse to be molested or irradiated! I have done training with some TSA people…(Im a private security specialist) and when I asked about the safety of the new machines….I was told that they have studies/reports showing that those machines are safe,….when I asked studies/reports from whom?…I was told by the manufactures of the machines…I struggled to NOT laugh out loud!

      There was a decision made when the ticket was purchased. There are rules for those flying in order to provide safety for those working for airlines and decent passengers who desire to travel. Amy made the decision to not be scanned and the alternative was a full body search. She got her choice. Probably TSA agents would perfer the body scan but folks like Amy is looking for other sensations and unneeded hype and most likely a subject to use in her column. Rape is without consent but Amy consented willing by not having the body scan. It is like the lady at McDonalds hot coffee, she held it between her legs and it spilled so her reaction was to sue.

      I think we need to get Government out of it, and leave it up to the Free Market. Some airlines would offer the ultimate security of cavity searches (or at least the illusion of security), others would offer ultimate freedom, such as allowing the citizens (maybe licensed) to carry on board. Sure there might be some shoot-outs but my bet is that the terrorists would rather pick the airlines where they knew the passengers were helpless unarmed sheep. At any rate, those of us who didn’t want to be the subjects of Government power trips could choose the Freedom airlines and fight to the death if it came to that. Give me Freedom, or give me Death!
      If we continue down the Big Government road, the latter will certainly be facing us some day whether we like it or not.

    I am going to look at the other side of this, and I will cut and paste on what Amy reportedly ‘decided’ in advance: “Her mind racing at the prospect, she said she decided “these TSA lackeys who serve the government in violating our rights just don’t deserve my quiet compliance.” She was determined she wouldn’t go through the scanner and allow a government employee to see her naked, all for the privilege of flying from Los Angeles to New York. And then there’s the issue in her mind about whether the scanners are even safe.

    So, as the pat-down began, she let the tears flow. “In fact,” she writes, “I sobbed my guts out. Loudly. Very loudly. The entire time the woman was searching me.”

    Now based on what was posted in the story, it sounds to me like Amy WAS LOOKING TO MAKE ‘TROUBLE’ IN ADVANCE of the screening. And her tears started flowing as soon as…. COME ON, GET REAL HERE. No, I am not taking the side of the TSA, but if Amy asked for trouble in advance, the same as a drunk driver might do when stopped, then if she was ‘searched’ more vigorously, then maybe she asked for it. Was the TSA correct? Maybe not, but folks, READ THE STORY AS REPORTED before you take sides.

      I don’t think I would choose to read this woman or even like her; however, she had the right to skip the invasive scanner and I can tell you, I would be in tears if I were brave enough to forgo these new scanner as opposed to old style and opt for the pat down. We don’t know how many people endure this kind of overstepping the bounds but we know many do. Many or even most people would be too embarrassed to tell people — kind of like rape.

    I am retired now, but I know from my years that things have changed tremendously when it comes to who is supposed to rule this country and it isn’t a rogue Federal government. It is the “people”, and as an example, when the government didn’t or couldn’t correct a serious problem in the past, for whatever reason, when I was young, this ‘rapist’ could have ended up at least gotten tared and feathered by outraged citizens and this woman’s family would have been there to see it go down. A few years earlier, this ‘rapist’ could have ended up hanging from a tree.

    That is the blatant reality of how things have changed and for the worse.

    Under the circumstances, maybe they need to be changed back to some degree or we have lost everything our soldiers of the past and present fought and died for. whether you like it or not, that is the reality of our past. Maybe this woman’s efforts to go after her ‘attacker’ will get that started, I hope.

    Only when our overlords become ‘afraid’ of the people, will they back off and start respecting our citizens again … out of fear of the consequences. But that requires the “people” to stand up and do something about these crimes.

    That is all I have to say.

    We are hearing only one side of this. If I were
    hired to look for weapons and a passenger resisted or
    objected, I would tell them: “Part of the requirement
    to fly is to submit to random search. No search-No fly.”

    It can be obnoxious to be searched, but it is understood
    that for now, that is part of the deal.

    The searchers are probably just as tired of it as the passengers…but that’s their job. The bigger the stink
    the passengers make of it the more suspicion they create.

    Amy Alkon is an anti-woman piece of sh*t who advises men that they’re all victims of raging feminist nazi hags who want to castrate them, and advises them to get women drunk and make their moves. She then turns around and tells women that if they get raped, it’s their fault (for drinking around the men she instructs to liquor them up, going to a bar, being in public at all on a weekend evening, etc.). She also demands they submit to regular quickies to keep their marriage, regardless of how badly it hurts and how un-lubricated they are, whether they have endometriosis, vaginismus, or another reproductive health issue. To her, getting regularly plunged, while dry and in pain is an obligation of marriage.

    So I’m more than glad Amy got a taste of what it’s like to be on the other side – I’m delighted. And i’m even more happy that, like the women she rips apart daily on her column, she won’t be able to do anything about it. It’s funny how she mocks women in bad situations and always blames them for their plight, but screams “I’m a victim!” when the shoe is on the other foot. Take your own advice, you ugly ginger hag – who most men wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, which is probably why she feels the need to lick our boots. Don’t want to be raped? Take some personal responsibility to prevent the situation – don’t fly!”
