The Federal Election Commission announced recently that the 2013 Presidential campaign, the first since the Supreme Court ruling that granted corporations freedom of political speech, was the most expensive in history.

According to the FEC, a cursory review of the 11 million pages of campaign funding-related documents from the 2012 election revealed that candidates, parties and outside groups spent a combined $7 billion to sway voters in the months leading up to Election Day.

Estimates from the agency show that the candidates spent $3.2 billion, making up almost half of the total spending. The political parties spent $2 billion, and the remaining $2.1 billion was reportedly spent by privately funded political action committees. Despite the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling that empowered super PACs in the 2012 election year, the FEC analysis shows that traditional PACs outspent super PACs, $1.2 billion to $950 million.

“It’s obviously only an estimate,” FEC Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub told POLITICO. “It’s really hard to come up with ‘the number.’”

President Barack Obama, who has long decried corporate funding in political campaigns, was called out by ProPublica in an article last month for reversing on promises to avoid accepting money from special interests.

From the article:

When President Obama told supporters that he would morph his campaign into a new nonprofit that would accept unlimited corporate donations, the announcement set off a familiar round of griping from campaign finance reformers.

The creation this month of Organizing for Action, which will promote the president’s second-term agenda, appears to be the fourth reversal by Obama on major money-in-politics issues since 2008.

The President, who embraced PAC funding during the campaign for a second term, has used the Citizens United ruling that he criticized to his benefit in shifting his campaign apparatus to a nonprofit group called Organizing for Action. The organization will use donations to push the President’s second-term agenda with television commercials and events as if the Presidential campaign never ended for the Obama camp.

PACs outspent SuperPACs this time probably because there are a lot more PACs than Super PACs.
The Coservative Supreme Court’s Citizen United ruling in favor of Big Money in our elections, minimizing human citizen’s impact on our elections, changed the ground rules. President Obama and many others dissagree with the ruling but played by the rules as any good competitor would.

“President Obama and many others dissagree [sic] with the ruling but played by the rules as any good competitor would.”

You obviously have a problem with reading comprehension.

Fuding is totally out of hand – turned the election process into a meaningless circus! It goes on day after day, forever – if there is a brain cell left after the levers are pulled, there’ll be no one left to recognize it! Think about it – a corporation is a non-human creation that exists at the will of government – and it has the unlimited ability to spend to elect government officials. Government will be corrupt until we stop it!

All this meant is if you spend your fortune on a candidate, you may get invited to the white house for dinner a couple of times, might have been cheaper to just buy a dinner ticket to sit at the same table with a big league Marxist!(i mean Obama)
Or spend the money on dinner with the Obama’s,and get noticed, you might even get a reach around!(by the least, kissed first)either way,it just shows how much of a hypocrite Obama really is!and that he just wants your money!
All in all, they both had spent way too much money on this job that don’t pay that much, kinda like a union boss job!the math just don’t add up,so it must be the power their after!remember to all the people that donated a few dollars, trust me they don’t know who you are and have long since forgot little contributions helped too!

I think Obama forgot the election is over,he was in Minnesota having a campaign rally yesterday, had traffic piled up(backed up)and caused a couple of people to end up in jail, tempers over him and the traffic!(and you know how the police love to get out of hand over traffic tickets!)but he was holding a big campaign rally and had all his police buddies there, they were right behind him supporting him on this gun bill,a background check is fine but if it goes universal, won’t half those cops fail that background check to own guns?so why they behind him?universal won’t work, crooks won’t care!so if the police are behind him, then the unions of course are, that’s why the traffic was so messed up and unnecesary accidents were happening and people were going to jail unnecesary and all this cuz the president forgot the election is over!what an idiot!go spend someone else’s money somewhere else!(those cops were pissed they didn’t get to sit behind Obama like the rest of the poster children for greed) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Why didn’t the article headline say : The Republicans are still campaigning? Since the Republicans generated a wee bit more in this last election maybe the problem lies with them. I think we all know by now as soon as one election ends the next one starts right up so why attempt to create a mystery when one isn’t there?

How much did unions spend? I think most of their money goes to campaigning, although mostly called organizing or the like.

Also, liberal news media coverage probably amounted to billions for the Democrats. Including minimizing coverage of fast & furious, Benghazi, Solyndra and the other 20 or so failed alternative energy companies. Also the campaign contributions made to Obama by many of the failed companies.
