The Mayor Of Token-Town

August 30, 2012 by

The Mayor Of Token-Town

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa isn’t a particularly noteworthy fellow in his own right. Despite serving as the mayor of the Nation’s second-largest city, Villaraigosa is a virtual unknown outside Democratic Party flacks and pro-illegal alien hate groups. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Democrats deployed him to take an ugly race-baiting poke at the Republicans during the latter party’s convention in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday.

“You can’t just trot out a brown face or a Spanish surname and expect people are going to vote for your party or your candidate,” Villaraigosa said.

Actually, Villaraigosa’s words are entirely accurate. Unfortunately, his intent is less so. While it ought to be true that race isn’t a factor in politics, the Democrats have turned it into the single most defining issue of the American political climate. Of course, if I had their track record on jobs, immigration or basic economics, I’d be talking about anything else, as well. If I had to run on the Democrats’ recent performance, I’d campaign on forcing the NCAA to further revamp the BCS.

The real irony — which is typically lost on the left — lies with Villaraigosa himself. Liberals love to accuse conservatives of racism. Indeed, since President Barack Obama began his occupation of the Oval Office, they’ve swatted at their enemies with that rhetorical rapier in response to any criticism of their beloved Barry. So why fly a mid-level party functionary all the way across the country just to repeat the same old slander? Why not simply let their corporate media sycophants handle it? Surely, David Gregory or Anderson Cooper could fill the bill, and even Cooper’s Q rating is higher than Villaraigosa’s. To borrow Villaraigosa’s own logic, you can’t just trot out a brown face or Spanish surname and expect people are going to take you seriously. Yet that’s precisely the reason the event was staged. In suggesting Hispanic Republicans are merely hood ornaments, the liberals brought a Hispanic Democrat 3,000 miles and used him like a hood ornament.

During the course of the same press conference, Villaraigosa expanded on his party’s point: “People are going to vote just like Anglos do, just like African-Americans do, and virtually every demographic group.”

Republican speakers at the Republican National Convention include: Mayor Mia Love of Saratoga Springs, Utah, who is black; Senatorial candidate Ted Cruz of Texas, who is part Cuban; and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, who is of Mexican descent. As much as it pains the Democrats, Artur Davis (a black former Democratic Congressman who recently became a Republican) is on the roster, as well. But they’re part of a much larger group of speakers who will address the convention; and they’ll be treated with the same deference as the rest. Indeed, it’s likely that the light pink-hued Representative Ron Paul of Texas will be the most controversial guy in the room. Much like the upcoming Democratic National Convention, most of the speakers, most of the attendees and most of the politicians will be white.

In specifically pointing out the racial backgrounds of certain Republicans, Villaraigosa was specifically refuting his party’s entire strategy. He also painted his own party as very specifically presuming that members of minority groups will vote only as a racial bloc, meaning he made two contradictory arguments in the same breath — both concluding with Villaraigosa and the Democrats being bigots.

There’s no reason to think the Democrats will ease up on their “Republicans are racist” rhetoric. Their rank and file are well-trained and lack the introspection necessary to recognize the essential hypocrisy at the center of their leaders’ behavior. To be honest, I almost feel pity for Villaraigosa. He has allowed himself to be deployed as a shiny ethnic decoration for a party consumed by hatred. In an effort to downplay conservative minority voting, the Democrats turned a liberal minority voter into a hood ornament, a token, a “a brown face or a Spanish surname.”

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa MADE THE SAME CLAIM NEGROES MADE ABOUT Herman Cain AND OTHER NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED-NEGRO REPUBLICANS.

SURE – LOGIC DICTATES COLORED REPUBLICANS ARE SMALL IN NUMBER. BUT, WHY NOT CONSIDER THAT COLORED REPUBLICAN IS EXPRESSING THE PERSONAL VALUE SYSTEM WHICH LED HER/HIM TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. IF SO-CALLED “LIBERAL” NEGROES WERE WILLING TO “LISTEN” – WITH EARS AND MIND “WIDE OPEN” – TO WHAT THESE COLORED REPUBLICANS HAVE TO SAY, THEY WOULD REALIZE WITH WHOM THEY TRULY SHARE A COMMON GROUND.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT THE OTHER DAY ABOUT Former Secretary Condoleeza Rice, PH.D, JOINING A GOLF CLUB SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS A PLOY BY REPUBLICANS TO SHOW NEGROES THEY “CARE” ABOUT THEM.

I AM STILL UPSET WITH NEGROES IN REFERENCE TO THEIR DISRESPECT OF, Justice Clarence Thomas. I REMEMBER WATCHING Mr. Thomas’ SPEECH IN THE Rose Garden AFTER Former President George Herbert Walker Bush HAD NOMINATED HIM FOR THE HIGH COURT. Mr. Thomas C-R-I-E-D AND “LAID HIMSELF BARE” AS HE TALKED ABOUT HIS CHILDHOOD AND LOVE FOR HIS COUNTRY AND THE LAW. YET, SINCE THAT POINT, NEGROES HAVE TALKED ABOUT Justice Thomas AS IF HE WAS A, “manggy dog.” THAT IS A SHAME! BUT – OH, YES! – NEGROES ARE “God-fearing” CHRISTIANS WHO WANT TO “walk with The ‘Lord’.”

COLORED LIBERALS DESERVE NOTHING BECAUSE THEY RESPECT NOTHING.

Ben Crystol says: “While it ought to be true that race isn’t a factor in politics, the Democrats have turned it into the single most defining issue of the American political climate.”

Actually that’s outright false. It is the Republicans under Nixon who trotted out the “Southern Strategy.” Generating FEAR of minorities has a proven track record of getting votes for the right wing.

For an overview please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

But, I guess if they live in fear of their god they feel it’s appropriate for them to induce fear into others. Seems only fair (not).

It goes back much further than Nixon it goes all the way back to Johnson.

      • Ted Crawford

So, it appears, even you Progressives are tired of the blame Bush rhetoric, now you’ll go back all the way to Nixon to find someone, anyone, but Obama to blame for our troubles! It’s a very good thing this election cycle is nearly over, you’re running out of excuses and people to blame for Obama’s lack of leadership!
It’s becoming abundantly clear that not only does he have no answers, but that he also doesn’t even understand the questions!

      • uvuvuv

lyndon johnson said of his war on poverty, the great society, the voting rights act, the equal opportunity commision, the community action coalition and affirmative action and the job corps, now there won’t be a black voting republican in 100 years. and for you humor lovers, he told martin luther king of his i have a dream speech, you didn’t write that.

      • eddie47d

Ted forgets how many times those on the right go all the way back and blame Carter and then Clinton but ignore the troubles that Bush brought us. Same ol’ crap different day.

      • Bob

Robert Smith, one quick question. Did your mother have any children that lived?

      • s c

Hey, comrade ‘r,’ have you EVER heard of Teddy Roosevelt and his slaughter of in the Philippines? Have you EVER heard of FDR and Japanese-Americans in WWII? Have you EVER known what you’re talking about?
Race is a functioning part of power POLITICS, and your utopian ‘Gods’ are experts at playing that damned game. You pathetic, empty-headed moron. WAKE UP! Teddy was a race ho bag. Do you think FDR was any different? Have you EVER explored the eugenics-racial purity gambit of Planned NonParenthood? HYPOCRITE!
You need some vaseline? LET ME KNOW!

    • eddie47d

I noticed that Condoleezza Rice was Romney’s “hood ornament” at the Republican convention. I like Condi but that was just too obvious.

      • http://boblivingstonpl.wordpress.com Bob Livingston

        Dear eddie47d,

You use of the word “hood” is racist implying that Rice comes from the “hood.” You, sir, are a bigot. It’s “just too obvious.”

        Best wishes,
        Bob

      • Average Joe

        Bob Livingston,
Thank you for pointing out what seems to be obvious to eveyone …except …Eddie47d.

        Best Wishes,
        AJ

      • eddie47d

Good grief Bob Livingston that is the word that Ben Crystal used . That is why I put it in parentheses.. How in the world is a HOOD ORNAMENT racist? You have one heck of an immagination to come up with something I never implied. I supposed if I said ARM CANDY that would have really fired you up. I think you need to have a chat with Ben and his choice of words. Please explain his meaning if so different from mine…

        • http://boblivingstonpl.wordpress.com Bob Livingston

          Dear eddie47d,

You write: “You have one heck of an immagination to come up with something I never implied.” So you didn’t like that taste of your own medicine?

          Best wishes,
          Bob

  • Warrior

Gotta keep generating the “hot air” otherwise the “tent” deflates! And that my friends is the democrat platform in a nutshell.

Everyone else is “responsible” for your lot in life. That’s the rugged individualism I’m talking about. Now go pay your fair share!

  • boyscout

There are many cards in American politics and the one labeled RACE has been pulled by both (HA HA HA -There are two ?) sides as often as deemed necessary. That’s just another reason why we often use the term ‘dirty politics.’ For Christ’s sake, it will be everywhere else so lets keep it out of here.

    • 45caliber

      boyscout:

Keep in mind that “dirty politics” and “mud slinging” – to a politician – does NOT refer to telling lies about your opponent. It is easy to refute lies. What a politician fears is his opponent telling the TRUTH about him!

      • Jimmy the Greek

        You got that right !

  • 45caliber

I agree, Ben. It is funny that the Demos do exactly what they are accusing the GOP of doing. And they expect no one to notice!!

    • eddie47d

Democrats in recent years have openly welcomed people of all persuasions. You know all Americans not just a select few. We allow Christians and Muslims to be a part of our chorus while Republicans only allow token Muslims into their fold and even that is rare. We allow gays into our party while the Republicans go out of their way to ignore the Log Cabin Republicans. The Democrats allow Hispanics of all economic levels to join but the Republicans blast the poor Latinos as beneath their dignity. Because of Lincoln you would think blacks would flock to the Republican Party but the way you trash Lincoln (doesn’t matter the reason) you chased them over to the Democrats. We accept union members and business owners but the way Republicans bash unions you lost the traditional working man. The Republicans spread fear throughout the small business community that the Democrats will eat them alive when it is the Corporate behemoths and big money changers on Wall Street that gobble them up. The Republicans say they welcome women but then verbally trash them every which way but loose. The Republicans also allow big business to trash the environment and always hope no one would notice.

      • THG

eddie , you named all the people the democratic party allows in , but for some reason , you left a few out . Honestly the democratic party closes its doors to no one , they should be proud . Oh ,I forgor I was going to help you finish your list >>>. There’s also the illegal aliens , they to are welcome , and lets not forget the deceased , what would a party be if they closed their doors to the dead. If I think of anymore , I’ll let you know .

      • s c

Comrade ‘e,’ what would you like to have for your 5th birthday?

      • Mikey

Eddiot, every sentence you just wrote was without substantiation, and completely wrong. I know of many members of different races, sexualities, and religions that are staunch Republicans….because that is the party (or used to be) that appeals to freedom lovers. Apparently you would believe the lies told by the corporate media, rather than checking to see if they are true or not. Have some Koolaid.

      • Doug Rodrigues

deeie47d, you are just so full of crap. Either you’re brainwashed, OR simply spreading the Socialist propaganda. People in this country don’t have a clue about what modern racism is. When the Mexicans get the majority vote, sit back and watch how everyone not a Mexican becomes a non-citizen in the eyes of the Mexican politicians. Ask me how I know…..

      • eddie47d

THG: Illegals cannot belong to any party including the Democrat Party . You are full of it and that deceased remark is nothing more than another lame Conservative talking point. .

      • eddie47d

Mikey: I’ll stand by everything I said and then some. The Republicans can’t continue to keep putting up tokens to impress the impressionable and act like they really care. One black in a crowd of thousands doesn’t cut it. Look at the Republican Convention and how the media will pan their cameras to that one or two blacks. You sit back and assume all is well with those one or two token faces to make you feel better. You are the name caller and the gullible “idiot” ( too repeat your Kool Aid drinking nonsense)

      • eddie47d

Shouldn’t have to respond to SC since she hasn’t told the truth for 3 years and is a far right hack!

      • eddie47d

Doug; That was a racist poke in the eye if I ever heard one. Those evil Hispanics are taking over and enslaving everyone as you seem to assume. I suppose the Protestant English thought the same thing when those Irish catholics came to America or maybe those German Lutherans. Keep spreading your Conservative cheers Doug and thank you for proving my point. .

      • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

        “eddie47d,”

I USED TO BE A MEMBER OF, Log Cabin Republicans. ALTHOUGH THEY CALL THEMSELVES “REPUBLICANS,” BECAUSE OF HIV/AIDS INITIATIVES AND SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LCR IS MORE “IN-STEP” WITH THE DEMOCRATIC Human Rights Campaign. LCR DOES NOT UNDERSTAND ITS MISSION IS TO SUPPORT THE EXISTENCE OF HOMOSEXUALS WHO BELIEVE IN TRADITIONAL VALUES. LCR SEEMS TO THINK OUR PRIVATE LIVES AS HOMOSEXUALS DESERVE A VOICE IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. THAT IS WRONG. THE OTHER REPUBLICAN-HOMOSEXUAL ORGANIZATION, GOProud, IS NO DIFFERENT THAN LCR.

      • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

        “eddie47d,”

YOU ARE BLAMING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR A SMALL NEGRO AFFILIATION. THAT IS NOT FAIR.

IF CONSERVATIVE NEGROES WERE NOT SO AFRAID OF BEING LABELED “Uncle Toms,” THEY WOULD BE MORE VISIBLE IN THE PARTY BECAUSE THEY WOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE PARTICIPATING IN PARTY POLITICS.

AGAIN, NEGROES TREAT REPUBLICANS LIKE, Justice Clarence Thomas AND Herman Cain AS IF THEY ARE LESS THAN, “black.”

  • momo

The only reason Villaraigosa is in politics is because he failed the California bar four times, he has since given up trying. So much for perseverance and determination.

    • Mikey

Have you heard Villaraigosa talk? I can’t believe he’s the mayor of one of the largest cities in the country. He’s a moron, L.A. is doomed.

  • uvuvuv

in the clarence thomas confirmation hearings the dems lashed out at him with almost breathtaking cruelty, so don’t look to them for any consistancy. also hispanics (if this was who he was referring to) come in all hues. when i spent a month in acapulco it was hard to figure out who were the gringo tourists and who were actual mexicans. not that i tried, it was just an observation that most mexicans were white even with that tropical sun. maybe he’s saying there are hispanics of a lower grade. yeah that’s it. why those racist repubs.

    • eddie47d

It was the Anita Hill thing that got Clarence Thomas in hot water and although little was proven either way it did show that Republicans would take the side of a sexual harasser and went after Hill with breathtaking cruelty.

      • http://boblivingstonpl.wordpress.com Bob Livingston

        Dear eddie47d,

You write: “although little was proven either way it did show that Republicans would take the side of a sexual harasser” You really should stop and think before you post such ignorant drivel.

        Best wishes,
        Bob

      • eddie47d

No falsehood in my comment Bob for I was around back then too. Now If uvuvuv wants to use breathtaking cruelty to describe the Thomas /Hill controversy then I think he deserved that reply and probably a little more.

        • http://boblivingstonpl.wordpress.com Bob Livingston

          Dear eddie47d,

You write: “No falsehood in my comment Bob for I was around back then too.” I did not say it was false. I said it was ignorant. Since you fail to recognize it, I’ll point it out. You wrote: “little was proven either way.” In other words, her claim was not proven. Then you wrote: “side of a sexual harasser.” Even though it was not proven you call him a sexual harasser. Perhaps the “Republicans” took “the side” of Clarence Thomas because he was not proven guilty of the charges against him.

          Best wishes,
          Bob

    • Jimmy the Greek

You hit the nail on the head ! down in mexico the white ones own most of the country and run the place .

      • eddie47d

In Mexico they also have second class citizens and almost all people darker than they are. Mayan Indians are scorned especially anyone from Guatemala. Every society finds someone to look down upon.

  • Jimmy the Greek

Los Angeles is still part of the United States ?

  • FedUp!

Dumbocraps have to use race because they have nothing else! MORONS!

  • david

having lived in Southern California for nearly 30 years and in the LA area for the last dozen or so I am embarassed by that stupid ineffective brown POS –hat Angelenos have elected such a moron not once but twice-not with my vote–he has taken Los Angeles to the verge of bankrupcy-we are Greece it’s just a matter of time. for the first time in 30 yrs I am open to moving elsewhere- I for one can’t wait for him to be unemployed

  • Public Citizen

Describing Antonio Ramón Villar, Jr, who now calls himself Antonio Villaraigosa as a hood ornament is a more accurate description than anybody not familiar with Los Angeles politics can possibly understand. This guy is about 2 tacos short of a combination plate on his best days and on the average days it’s even worse.
He is a do anything/say anything to get ahead politically kind of guy who has never had an original idea of his own.
His M.O. in L.A. is to glomm on to any news story with a TV camera present and get his face in front of the cameras whether he has anything to contribute or not. It doesn’t matter if the story has any relevance to L.A. city politics Villaragosa is there 3 minutes after the camera crew rolls up. It is all about his face and as much nonsense as he can spew to get as much face time as possible.
The hood ornament analogy is very accurate as he is shiny, hollow, always out in front and prominently on display, doesn’t help make the car go where it needs to go, and is an obsolete symbol of a design theme that is no longer relevant.

    • eddie47d

Be very careful how you use the term HOOD. I just found out what it really means as in “living in the HOOD”.

  • b

But if it works . . . . Personally, I could be persuaded to live in the Los Angeles or Chicago area, but I can’t imagine anyone willing to pay me enough money for anything I can do (or fake) to make it worth considering. So they will have to clean their own houses when the push gets to the shove.

  • Commiefornia

“Villaraigosa” isn’t even his real name! It’s “Villar”. He combined his name with his ex-wife’s name to make his last name sound more “Hispanic”.

  • tncdel

Traitors to America who put the interests of foreign nationals here illegally ahead of America’s best interests should be sentenced to life in prison with no parole.

  • Vet

And people wonder why CA. is broke, with idiots like this in office their fate is sealed !!!

  • http://Nite-n-gale Donna Blair

I am new 2 posting on this site but I have read it for a while. Why would any person who is competent want 2 vote for BHO? He is destroying America. All the Ron Paul people should just grow up & vote for Romney/Paul ticket. A vote for Ron Paul will b a vote for BHO. If we think we have heard whining & crying now, just wait until 4 more yrs of the same. This is the most important election of history of our great country. I ask u 2 put aside what might been. It “ain’t a gona happen.”. Get real! God bless!
