The January Jobs Are Statistical Artifacts

Last Friday, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in the first month of this year 243,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent. This good news is a mirage. It is due to faulty seasonal adjustments and to the BLS birth/death model. In a prolonged downturn, seasonal adjustments and the birth/death model produce nonexistent employment.

The unadjusted data show a rise in the unemployment rate. The birth/death model, which estimates the net effect of jobs lost from business failures and jobs created by new start-ups, was designed for a normal growing economy, not for a prolonged downturn. Statistician John Williams (shadowstats.com) reports that the BLS adds 48,000 new jobs per month to the payroll employment report based on the birth/death model even though the economy has not come out of the deep recession. In other words, over the course of a year, the birth/death model adds about 580,000 jobs to the reported jobs numbers. End-of-year benchmark revisions quietly take the nonexistent jobs out of the totals, but these revisions do not receive headlines and pass largely unnoticed.

The reported January jobs gains are contradicted by other official reports. For example, the January payroll jobs report shows 50,000 new jobs in manufacturing, but according to the recently released fourth quarter gross domestic product, 81 percent of the reported growth consisted of undesired inventory accumulation. Normally, companies produce for sales, not for inventories. Why would manufacturers be hiring people to produce goods for undesired inventories?

Most of the new reported January jobs are in services. The January jobs report has 24,500 new jobs in wholesale and retail trade and 13,100 new jobs in transportation and warehousing. However the data show that inflation-corrected real retail sales are down. Why does it take more people to sell fewer goods?

The other remaining sizable components of the January jobs number are: professional and technical services (30,000), administrative and waste services (36,700), health care and social assistance (29,700), and leisure and hospitality (44,000) of which the largest component is food services and drinking places (32,800).

The leisure, waitresses and bartender employment numbers seem high for January. Perhaps it was an excellent ski month in the United States. However, accommodation (hotels) does not support this conclusion, as accommodation lost 3,900 jobs.

The BLS reports 21,000 new jobs in construction. However, the housing report says that housing starts dropped more than forecast in December, falling 4.1 percent. Why does it take more construction workers to produce fewer houses? Building permits, a proxy for future construction, were little changed.

As the adjusted data produce phantom jobs and employment, the BLS should headline the raw unadjusted data. With so many discouraged workers unable to find jobs, dropping discouraged workers out of the measure of unemployment seriously understates the true magnitude of the unemployment problem. If Americans were aware of the double-digit unemployment rate, would they be as tolerant of Washington’s multitrillion-dollar wars? Would Obama be facing a tougher re-election campaign? Would Republicans be pushing to reduce the Federal budget deficit at the expense of the social safety net?

The phony data serve many interests, but not those of the American people.

          that flickering blue light you see in the curtained windows at night as you drive down street after street tells you just what most Americans do after dark. They tune into the unreality shows and fall asleep mentally if not physically. They listen to the lies broadcasted now in digital format(I think it’s easier to place things in the signal digitally than it is in analog format)and they wake up in the morning dumber than when they went to sleep.
          My point? People would rather be entertained than they would to spend this time reading meaningful information about the world around them thus, they are ignorant and rely almost solely on what they hear at night. Ignorant people make horrible ignorant decisions. I won’t call those decisions mistakes because a mistake implies that the decision was unintentional when it was indeed made on purpose. It’s going to take a rather large shock to wake these people up from their electronically induced stupor.

Unfortunately, our government promotes lies as ‘news’ and these people think they are getting real news. Our president lies in every speech he gives, and these same people believe him because they’ve been told by the ‘news’ how wonderful he is. They’ve been told he’s fighting for the middle class, when that is the opposite of the truth. We need a way to get the truth out to all the people staring at their TVs.

      Why is the GOP and the right so against America? Why do they want to drag it down every say, on any subject, even to the point of blatantly making up lies to drag it down?

            While I have in my past 30 years been a union member, I do not totally agree with you on this! Unions in the right (needed invironment of jobs are great only to a poin! Unions are not protecting people so much as they are protecting their own CASH flow issues which is your CASH in their pockets! While in the right circumstances some employees are given a raw deal due to personality clashes and the like this is when unions are of help to the employees. However when they preserved the job of lazy good for nothings that do not carry their share of work! Not! When they preserved jobs of drunks and drug users who endanger others on the job! Not! When they cause a company to pay a Janitor near 30 dollars an hour! Not! When they unreasonably dig into the profits of a Company costing the American public excessive increases (inflation)! Not! When they run Companies out of business thus costing Jobs! Not! I paid dues for 30 + years to more than 1 union in my career field and I am not ashamed to say that our union at the time did not do most of these things but they did do some of them and I was obligated under State law to defend some of the above situations! So get involved and be sure before you speak of unions and always be aware of what the officials are doing in the background and sometimes in the light of day!

            to further back up what you said, just look at the expose the news did on the GM workers that were going out for lunch and lunch consisted of a couple of quarts or a dubie or two!!! The union was behind them from the release date. Never mind the fact that they could come back, operate a machine, lose a hand, then turn around and sue the company! Never mind the fact that in their state they could improperly install something on one of the vehicles and cost someone their life. THAT isn’t important, protecting those azzholes IS!!!

        You mean the bond holders lost on the Chrysler/Fiat deal. The SECURED creditors were thrown under the bus by Obama so he could give the assets to his union cronies. Any profits will go to the Italian company, Fiat (58% owner). Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles are made in Canada and Mexico as well as the USA. A more accurate depiction by Clint Deadwood would have been “it is time for the second half in Italy, Canada and Mexico thanks to the US taxpayer.”

          Mr. Livingston…I do not. i admit to having some surprise that you felt you didn’t need to ask about my statement instead of making an erroneous assumption.

          Take the number of jobs saved, and the tax revenues from those jobs. take the amounts of monies saved in not having to pay out unemployment and retraining. take all that, add in the multiplier effect of the auto industry in effects on suppliers etc (I may be mistaken, but I think housing is a 9 multiplier effect and autos are 8?) …

          I believe i am correct in stating we, the American taxpayer, made out on the bailout.

          As to those who lost money on stocks and bonds…as I think you would agree…assumption of risk. They received exactly what they would have gotten had Chrysler gone out of business without the bailout.

          I am not, and never have been, an advocate of privatizing profit and socializing risk when it comes to stocks and bonds and playing the market.

          Hope you are now clear and see the necessity of making further inquiries for clarification instead of publicizing unwarranted assumptions.

            The people who got screwed over were the BOND HOLDERS — the SECURED creditors. Do you know what one of those is? It’s like the bank that holds the mortgage to your property. When you go belly up, they get your house; when a company goes belly up, the SECURED creditors are first in line for the assets.

            For the first time in US history, the administration said a big F.U. to the SECURED creditors, and the Supreme Court stood by and did nothing. (Cowards.)

            What you don’t seem to realize is the effect. You want to know why banks are adjusting mortgage balances? Because they’ve already seen the US Government seize assets from creditors and hand them over to someone else, so why the hell would a bank agree to a reduced mortgage balance?

            This is why banks are not lending money to businesses in any significant amount. The Supreme Court threw hundreds of years of bankruptcy law out the window because they didn’t lift a finger to correct the problem.

            So, for all your math in saying how we made a profit on the deal, I call bullcrap. The reality is we still have millions unemployed because no smart investor is taking any risk to create any jobs.

            This is 100% the fault of the government!

            Congress…I had thought the Secured Creditors had been paid 30 cents on the dollar…i just looked it up. I was off…Secured Creditors received 29 cents on the dollar.

            The story being told about the Unions being given preferential treatment over the Secured Creditors etc is …as one would suspect…wrong. The Unions bargained with the emerging company out of BK…and for that they received a new contract which called for an equity stake (along with Fiat) and the underfunded unsecured Health Pension plan was converted to the new company. Note the union accepted lower wages and lower health benefits in the bargained for agreement.

            The health pension fund transfer is nothing unique. The equity bargained for position with the Union was, and is. However, it was not a dictate by the administration. The terms of the next advance dictated there would be a new Collective bargaining agreement in place. Treasury did not dictate an equity stake. It was reached through mutual bargaining between the company and the union. Both gave in, both gave more than either wanted.

            Though Secured Creditors cried ‘foul’ and stated the deal overturned existing BK laws (a claim since picked up and spread by the Right in its ongoing smear campaign against America)…not one Appellate Court, including the SCOTUS, agrees.

            The Intentionally False Picture In The Latest Employment Report

            The hype over the lastest unemployment report is bizarre given that it followed the CBO annual report by just one day. Here are a few pointers from that report:

            Has Obama created or destroyed jobs since taking office?

            That prompted this exchange between Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., and the CBO director. “Let me ask you, are there more people working today or fewer people working today than at the — on inauguration day of 2009?” McClintock asked.

            “I believe the answer to that,” said Elmendorf, “is there are fewer people, congressman.”

            Is Obama’s economic plan succeeding or wildly failing to create jobs?

            The [CBO] office says that will leave the unemployment rate at 8.9 percent at the end of this year, well above current the current rate of 8.5 percent, meaning the jobless rate would be increasing at election time.

            And in 2013, CBO estimates unemployment will be even higher — at 9.2 percent.

            NAFTA was a Reagan brain-fart. He just couldn’t get the Mexicans to join so he gave us NAFTA without Mexico. After another Mexican economic crisis Bush Mexico agreed to join (probably bribed by Bush). The agreement was signed under Bush with so-called fast track legislation. Clinton could not change the agreement. He could only get it voted on up or down. He defied his base and lied and used Mexico first congressmen, promising them “side agreements” that he would do after NATFA passed but were not in writing. He never kept his word and NAFTA was ratified under him. Dick Gephardt the leader of the Democrats in the House was one of the leaders of the group trying to defeat NATFA along with Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan, and Pat Choate.

But…if the same calculations are used throughout and can thus be used as a comparison…then the trend should be accurate. yes…unemployment is higher than the rate published. But the decrease in unemployment should be accurately reflected.

I don’t care a bit if a teacher pays a tax it’s only a reduction in the amount of taxpayers dollars that the government is spending. I don’t trust any politician, not even the conservative right wing as a politician’s first duty is to get elected and it’s second duty is to get re-elected.             Anyione can be stopped for any reason, and then asked for proof of citizenship then and there. And not having it…off to jail until you prove you are a citizen. Otherwise it’s a racist law and should be stricken.

The result of a veto would have been the military mena dn women going without a paycheck and our nation put at risk. he obejected to those offensive clauses all the way through the lgislative processes…and then issued a signing statement that he would not enforce nor recognize those areas. Given the state of paralysis in Congress, especfially in the House…what would you have supported?

            But he did have a choice. He could have vetoed it, said specificaly why, and sent it back to congress for revision. Congress could have then either passed the bill without the offending parts or over-riden the veto. Either way no armed forces personel would have been denied any pay or in any other way inconvienced. As far as his “promise” to ignore the NDAA portion of the bill, that promise is as empty as his promise to have the most transparent government we have ever had.

            texastwin87 – you need to do some more research about H-1Bs. The big lie campaign to get them in place was a Republican plan that started under Reagan. The reason that congress voted for it had more to do with corporate interests rather than it being a Democratic plan.

            Even now Newt wants guest workers. If you remember, Bush II called for some loopy guest worker program where jobs would be posted on the internet and if there were no American takers, somebody anywhere in the world could apply. No mention about how low the wages would go. There were vague rumors of people getting permissions to set up the kind of labor camps they have in Dubai using Indian peasants in case the law went through.

            What people like you fail to realize is that the illegal takes a lot of better paying jobs, at a pay rate lower than what most Americans could live on. We are still building new houses here, since our economy has not suffered like other parts of the US.

            If you drive by any house being built, you will find the crews are almost always 100% hispanic…and if they were checked, at best, only the foreman of the job (who speaks Spanish) would be a US citizen. Only the home builder knows if they are being paid “under the table” or are using an American’s Soc Sec number. Many do not work for companies…the contract out to individuals to build decks, etc..all paid in cash.

            Having worked (as a bookkeeper) in the 1980′s (before e-verify) for a company that used a lot of the illegals, I can attest to how they do it. IF they work under a soc sec#, it is stolen, which creates a nightmare for the real taxpayer. You try convincing IRS that you don’t owe all those taxes on wages that you didn’t make!

            While most are paid under the table, if they use a stolen soc sec#, they take 9-10 exemptions so that no withholding comes out of their check. And yes, Soc Sec taxes do come out of their checks…only because it’s mandatory! They know they can’t file a tax return, so why lose the money to withholding taxes? Sadly, withholding taxes are the very taxes that support the welfare programs that they obtain through their anchor babies, which includes the cost of the birth of those children, that the taxpayer ends up footing the bill on. While the illegal can’t draw welfare benefits, their anchor babies can because they are US citizens.

            While a clinic can ask for payment for medical care, hospitals can not deny them medical care, regardless of whether they can pay or not so they use our ER’s as a clinic…again the taxpayer ends up footing the bill, not to mention the long waits, in the ER, for US citizens who have real emergency issues.

            Do not be naive and think they only take jobs that “Americans won’t do”.

I worked for the state employment commission for eight years as a veterans rep – finding jobs and training programs for veterans and it was remarkably easy to adjust the numbers. It happens all the time, nationwide. Why? Easy – to maintain federal funds to the state. Nothing more, nothing less. With this as a perpetual established method of “cooking the numbers” very little faith can be put into the numbers that come out of Washington in relation to the number of jobs “created”. HA, the government plays with the numbers Oh So Well, especially during an election year.

      Capitalist, did you know that over 3 million Americans, including some that are 4th & 5th generation natives have left this country since Obama took office in ’09? They have taken with them billions of dollars in assets to be invested elsewhere. I know several such individuals who had enough and left while the going is still good.

        Only about 400 people of substantial wealth a year have left due to trying to escape taxes (according to the stuff I get from Agora). Most of the people who leave do it to have a cheaper retirement and would have left anyway. You can buy a pretty decent house in Uraguay for 100,000 dollars. There is almost no property tax and the place is basically all European with little crime and great weather. Food is cheap and medical care is first world. Blaming it on Obama is disengenous.

          Carter signed the CRA which did not say you had to loan mony to poor risks. It said if you loan money to a white guy with a FICO of 620 and you didn’t to a black guy with the same score you had some explaing to do.

          It was common in those days to have braches of S&Ls in black neighborhhods without a loan officer. Due to the poor credit profiles very little loans were made and paying somebody to sit at a desk all day did not make sense. However, that meant a black guy would have to travel to a main office somewhere else to do the loan. This was addressing that problem. Now there had to be the same services available.

          If the CRA was respinsible, the housing bubble would have occurred a long time before. Stop listening to paid shill for the RNC like Rush.

            I worked in the banking industry from 1979-1994, and specifically on products to help banks comply with CRA. Mark in LA, you are just wrong, incorrect, and mistaken in your statements. The CRA did, in fact, lead to uncreditworthy lending, which precipitated the mortgage crisis, which led ultimately to the economic collapse in 2008. CRA is nothing more than an attempt by liberals in government to extend their wealth redistribution policies to the private sector through unwarranted, unnecessary and unsound regulation.

            Sorry, but making thigs up doesn’t change the timeline. People who are not creditworthy always get credit. That some people did after the CRA was signed is mostly just coincidence. If the CRA was the culprit, why was there no housing bubble until after 2000? You can’t explain, because it had no effect. There were no widespread reports of people not qualified to get loans getting them until the unregulated mortgage market started making them. This is the problem with you people you take a few anecdotes of the normal fraud that occurs regularly in the mortgage and real estate market and try to pin it all on one thing to shift the blame to one side or the other.

            There were plenty of small banks who complied with the CRA who make no subprime mortgages. So the fiction that the CRA forced people to make bad loans is nonsense. It’s more like somebody made bad loans to make more money, got caught with their pants down, and used the CRA to blame the government hoping for a bailout.

The bubble balloned because Wall Street saw how lucrative Fannie and Freddie were in their mortage repackaging business and wanted in on the action. What most “free market” types can’t or won’t see is that more competition can actually be bad for a situation that is not heavily regulated. As more people enter the game standards come down. The unregulated mortgage companies were making exotic mortages that could not be sold to Freddie or Fannie and had nothing to do with the CRA. Wall Street stared buying them up and repackaging them into bonds.

          This had the strange effect of making risky assets look even less risky since many more home buyers came into the game driving up prices and making even the forclosure profitable. Now you were getting a higher interest rate for your subprime loan and making money if the guy lost the house to forclosure. Wall Street was providing all the money until 2004 when Congress told Freddie and Fannie to get in on the act. Had they not done so the bubble might have burst a year sooner with less damage.

          Even with all that Fredie and Fannie only had 20% of the subprime loans. The banks and mortage companies and Wall Street had the other 80%.

          The CRA never said people had to make loans to poor risks. That was an invention by Libertarians who want to blame the government for everything. Then Bachman ran with it and the RNC latched on to it as a way to deflect the blame from Wall Street.

Also “cooked” are the inflation numbers going back to the ’80s, because if they were honest about inflation Social Security payments (inflation adjusted) would be about 70% larger. Bond returns (also inflation adjusted) would be higher. Government can’t afford it so they cook the books, which incidentally makes it look like they’re doing a better job.

      Essentially until some meaningful manufacturing comes back to this country, blue collar jobs may never be abundant.
      Hard to believe the volume of all items we typically want to buy are almost all Made In China.
      Our business owners, large corporations or smaller combined, made these moves to save money, maximize profits.
      Walmart used to brag about selling goods Made In America. Now they even chisel the Chinese down through pressuring their suppliers to get even cheaper prices on goods or they won’t stock them.
      Alternatively, we wouldn’t buy them, not cheap enough.
      Workforce never stepped up to the plate and improved their job skills for the future, which is now present upon us. Technology, science, engineering, computer skills, etc.

There were plenty of kids going into engineering before that. You couldn’t find a seat in an upper division undergraduate classroom at UCLA. After the H-1B and the declining (in real dollars) engineering salaries, people decided the extra effort to get an engineering degree wasn’t worth it, especially when companies lie through their teeth about qualifications so that can pass over Americans.

          i read in our paper the other day that with all the baby boomers getting ready to retire, there will be a void in the availability of skilled machinists. the rate of retirements will be greater than the new people graduating from training so they will not be able to fill all of them. I am talking about jobs that pay between 17 and 25 dollars an hour. 25.50 to 37.50 an hour for overtime at time and a half. I’d call that decent to good pay.

It helped the “economy” grow for so long now they won’t give up that margin of cost of goods sold and sale price. They will never be able to duplicate that by bringing the work back here.             Flashy, that is ridiculous. Wind turbines are low tech. We may not have companies building them here but power generation is not something requiring advanced technology. It is the same basic technology as used in all power generating equipment. You convert physical motion to electrical energy using a coil moving through a magnetic field – the same as your alternator or generator in your car.

Lmbo, with other emerging markets snapping up goods faster and faster, manufacturers don’t care about US tariffs, they just sell em into Russia, Europe,The middle east (yes there are stable countries and the rest will come on line after they are converted to consumer and banking slaves) Australia, Singapore, Malissia,Indonesia, or India. yes they may make a little less then current for the time being, but still a lot more then they would make paying tariffs.And it is changing fast, India will import more from china within a decade then the US. All those countries are starting to ample replace the US consumer market and I foresee that in the near future if we want to get cheap goods we will have to bribe the manufacturers and importers with big incentives to get them. Manufacturing will never come back to the US, if it gets to be too expensive in China, they will move on to Bangladesh or Africa where there is a whole continent that can be used for cheap labor and polluted freely. We need to remember, we are NOT the only consumer kid on the block anymore, others are catching up and catching up fast… and the goods are not in limitless quantities…. That’s why I laugh about some of the embargo this government is instituting against countries like Iran and others, guess what, we only hurt our self…. other countries care less about the US embargo or tariffs and take every bid of oil or goods we don’t want.

          John that doesn’t make any sense. The outsourced jobs are primarily American companies setting up factories in low wage companies to ship products back to the US. The idea that the rest of the world will take those goods in any appreciable amount is nonsense. Tariffs would cause those factories output to slow to the point that the plant may no longer be profitable. Even though the wages are low in those countries, the plant still costs hundreds of millions to build and maintain because most of the work is done by robots for consistency. Manufacturing jobs are coming back to America as more automation is put in because the tranportation costs and turnaround time costs become more prohibitive.

          Tariffs are one way to speed that up.

            corporations don’t care where they sell the goods. You can find the same goods those “”American corporations”" produce in the emerging countries. Look at some of the trade magazines and the talk about shifting toward emerging markets to maximize profits. The same corporations will be just as happy to sell to India and they to sell to the US… profit is what drives corporations NOT patriotism…. A tariff that will result in more expensive products and thus less sales of products will accelerate the development of alternate markets and NOT the return of jobs to the US.

            Yes, John they don’t care where they sell but the US is still the primary market. The goal is to make it cost prohibitive to send those goods back into America so the plants still in the US will expand to take the demand.

            If an American corporation wants to build a refridgerator factory in China and all of its output stays in China, fine with me. It’s when they close the plant in Ohio and build one in China where 85% of its output is bound for the US and Canada that I want to stop. Right now, that is the case and not your scenario.

            Maybe you guys never read history books. Tariffs in this country were traditionally quite high in order to facilitate the growth of manufacturing in this country. High tariffs (both regulatory and monetary) have been used thoughout Asia for the same reason and have always been successful in that regard. Alexander Hamilton was a big proponent of high tariffs to protect manufacturing. Even Ronald Reagan had to have them to save the auto industry and Harley Davidson.

            I realize that you are getting your beliefs from economics. I also realize that economists pretend to be actual scientists but they are mostly just a bunch of third rate mathematicians who can’t do the real stuff and found a place in academia where low level statistics is all you need. Economics is a worthless pseudo-science.

    My sons and I have been unemployed for more than a year. My eldest son, has somehow gotten unemployment, but my younger son and I have no unemployment benefits. Therefore, of three people only one is being counted as unemployed. And that’s only one family. There are millions of families in the same boat and they are not being counted either. January jobs numbers also includes many holiday workers that were held over until after inventory, therefore, February numbers should take a nose dive if they are accurately reflecting employment, but we all know they don’t.

    These statistics are so so false. They are not considering the people who have exhausted all of their unemployment and can no longer draw unemployment, so don’t listen to what you hear. None of the people who have lost all of their unemployment are being taken into consideration so therefore, the true unemployment rate is much higher! I reported this many months ago when they said the rate had dropped. How do we actually get a TRUE rate of unemployment!

    So the numbers are manipulated–who would have ever thought it? For the last three years, unemployment has averaged over 400,000 first time filers per week. Simple math is 1.6 million per month times 48 (76.8 million jobs lost). Now, add back less than 100k per month up until the last three months and you get a better look at the net jobs lost. Sure, some went back to work at much lower pay, but participation has lost about 30+ million as well. Suffice it to say, over thirty million people gave up looking for work in addition to 75 million losing jobs with dismal additions per month, things have not gotten better.
    Sadly, O.blamer will get re-elected and then, and only then, will America really get a handle on how poor a job O.blamer really has done, or as I believe, how good a job he has done to promote his agenda of distroying this country!

The north American Indians were constantly at war and constantly taking others territory. I believe the word Sioux means enemy. The Lakota (Sioux) who defeated Custer came from Canada and pushed the Crow and Cheyenne out of their ancestral homes by force. Historians have created a fancy name for ethic cleansing, they call it a migration, but ethnic cleansing is what it really is.

      The other tribes around the Aztecs were so happy to see somebody who could take the Aztecs down that they willingly joined with the Spanish Conquistadors.

      The plains Indians living off the land was due to necessity not because they had a choice and preferred it that way. They built cities in Mezo-America and farmed everywhere when they could. The plains Indians just did not have the technology for what ever reason.

      If the white man had not come, it would have been somebody else. I doubt the Han Chinese would have treated them any better. The idea that you are only allowed to move someplace if it is not already occupied sounds nice but has nothing to do with real history anywhere.

    We had to join the crowd of number cooking. To receive our last chunk of stimulus money (we are local sheriff’s office in poor rural are) we had to change our methodology that had been used for 23 months. The methodology we were told to use inflated number of jobs 7 (seven) times the normal numbers. If large departments had to do this the job creation numbers would be out the roof.

      I agree with you in part. Proof of a birth control injection should be required to get welfare. And if a child is conceived while on welfare, benefits should not be increased. My belief is that all methods of birth control should be free and confidential to anyone old enough to ask for it. I would be happy to have my taxes pay for it.

        There is a limit on how many children someone can have and continue to get additional aid. SNAP (food stamps) is another story, though. There is also a time limit for welfare set by each state. In SC it is 24 months within a 5 year period.

          If I’m not mistaken, it is eight kids. But there are ways to get around it. Not too long ago, a woman in Cal was charged because she was trying to get her 13 year old pregnant. Her idea was to get the 13 year old on her own welfare, which Mama would collect for her and her child, and then Mama could have another to replace the 13 year old. She figured in ten years or so, between the two of them and another couple growing up, she could draw welfare for about 22. As it was, the state found that she was LEGALLY drawing over $42,000 a year for the eight she had along with other things like free lunches, medical, etc. They got her for trying to prostitute out her daughters since she wanted to charge a guy to get them pregnant rather than let their boyfriends do it.

    What I don’t understand is why people seem to be so bummed out about the fact that the economy has been and is continuing to recover from a recession. I don’t recall people being as upset about it during the recovery from the 1980′s recession. It’s almost as though some people have become addicted to being afraid, depressed and angry.
    There always seems to be some excuse as to why any positive economic news what so ever can’t possibly be true. Wether it be the record after tax profits of U.S. corporations ( since Oct. 2009 ) or the increase in the GDP, or a unemployment rate which is slowly falling.
    If you really want ( or need ) to be pissed off about something.
    Why haven’t I seen a single article from Personal Liberty Digest about the U.S. Trade Commissions findings of illegal trade practices by China ?

      We are angry because we do not see any indications of a recovery, except the government reports that we all can look around and tell are false. We have been lied to so many times that we do not believe anything the government says. The current administration is lying to us just the same as the previous one lied about weapons of mass destruction. The record after tax profits you refer to went to the 3 percent who probabaly have their headquarters based overseas.Personally I don’t believe anything any government agency says until I can confirm it with other sources. Why would I believe anything the trade commission says about trade practices by China? Thats like the pot calling the kettle black.

I agree with most of your post, but I still say you cannot stop nature. Free contraceptives would help prevent many undesired pregnancies. Maybe you do not understand, but for some people sex drive is an overwhelming force. You can preach about abstence until the end of time and you will not stop mother nature.
            The only way to improve the outcome is to provide the people who cannot control their sex drive with protection from contraception.

      and you maybe right! but a 300% increase in a quality HC policy in 20 years time is worthy some kind of a response. A 200% increase on a policy that is not worth the paper it was written on.

      They were killing us and robbing us blind. That my tax dollars help subsidies other American HC insurance coverage while myself was denied any coverage at all didn’t make me feel inclined to be happy with the old setup.

      I’m not convinced that I’ll like the new one, but more people are covered, you can not be denied coverage, and we got a better deal with the preexisting disclaimers. The seniors are not up in arms, but actually spending less as I understand it. Dad die on the 16th of Dec at 84, mother’s 82 ,sister-in-laws grand dad is 96 and we are dealing with him, it’s not like I don’t have a clue about what Old Folks are doing today.

      And besides, doctors and hospital will kill you, stay far away as you can. You are compromised with one foot in the grave when you walk through the door. They are good at curing you of one thing and giving you three things that are life threatening to take home with you.

I have friends who are an elderly couple who have paid for AARP for nearly 20 years at almost $100. each thats $200. a month that means they have paid AARP $408,000.00. When the Mrs. 86 years old slipped and fell on the ice she broke both of her arms AARP Supplemental health (HELL) insurance refused for her to get help with paying for a caregiver, but AARP would pay for someone to come out and change a bandage for her..that means they would pay someone to drive 115 miles round trip (mileage) and an hourly wage for driving time plus the wages for changing a bandage. You cannot change casts. But they would not pay a local CNA to come give her a bath, dress her, cook and feed her. The wages would have been less because you don’t have to drive 2 1/2 hours of drive time, nor pay mileage, nor could there be a bandage to be changed. How would 2 casts be changed daily? It’s BS just another way government steals from you.

    There are many so called American People who do believe in Government documentations. One reason the job ratings are up is because people have lost their unemployment benefits as they have exausted the time limit one can draw their unemployment and there are no new jobs to replace the ones that have closed their doors. Unless an American takes a job out of the US will they find employment.

    I think that all Politicians should have to pay a 30% tax rate on all of their income including their hidden income for the rest of their lives and then the 30% tax rate would apply to their death taxes.

    I would like proof that Politicians pay into the Social Security Fund which, is really now a General Funds Account. And who gave the permission for putting our “the hard Working American People’s” Social Security Funds into the General Funds Account? Why has the Government not put the Politicians Retirement Funds. the Teachers Retirement Fund, the Unions Retirement Funds, etc. into the General Funds Account, so all Americans can benefit from the General Funds Account? The Politicians, Teachers,Unions, etc. would cry like babies if it were to happen. Just tink what would happen if Government were to go after 401′s……

    I, also would like to know why Obama has a Connetcut, I believe Social Security Number. Is it because his Grandmother Dunham worked for an institution where she could give Obama a dead man’s Social Security Number as the man is assumed still alive????     I also, believe if a Politician or their spouse wants to take a vacation the cost should come out of their own pocket. It is a proven fact that Obama has spent more money than all of our previous Presidents put together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Obama is a lier and a thief he makes rules when it is against our Constitution he is even trying to do away with our Constitution. He is trying to do away with either the Legislative Branch or Executive Branch of Congress. Will Obama just be a DICKtator to the American People???

    I think America needs An American Born Jewish Woman to be OUR THE US PRESIDENT because she would defend us, she would cut spending, she would have an ordinary tailor make her clothes, she would probably even have a POT LUCK DINNER FOR HER INAUGURATION BALL…etc. It would not take her long to put America back on HER feet. I beleive she would do away with the FEDERAL RESERVE, the UN, NAFTA, etc. She would really create jobs and most of all She would put GOD back into our Country and make it a GREAT STRONG COUNTRY AS IT SHOULD BE!!!

WHY WOULD THE VOTERS VOTE FOR HER AND NOT DR TON PAUL AND WHY WOULD SHE WANT THE JOB FOR SUCH A LOW SALARY? WHY WOULD SHE EVEN BOTHER TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL THOSE STUPID REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN WHO JUST WANT IT THEIR OWN WAY OR THE HIGHWAY?

    If the Statistics are incorrectly showing more jobs have been created, how can we even belive the unemployment numbers? Maybe they fictituosly increased unemployment numbers last year so they could later reduce the numbers for political purposes in an election year? So which figures are reliable so we can make an appropriate political or business comment and decision.

    I looked through many of the posts and didn’t see this, does anyone else think it’s IRONIC that the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s initials are BLS (Bullsh*t)????????? Oh and whoever posted that bogus Fairfield University Poll is a Huff-Droll…it’s BOGUS and you knows it.
