The Face Which Launched A Thousand Lunches

August 5, 2010 by

The Face Which Launched A Thousand Lunches

The Venus De Milo. Michelangelo’s David. Rodin’s Thinker. And… Helen Thomas?

According to the Detroit Free Press, the disgraced former UPI reporter is going to be cast in clay for an outfit called the Arab-American National Museum. Whether that august collection is more “Smithsonian of Dearborn,” or “place your parents made you visit on those long car rides—(a giant ball of string!”)—is immaterial. What is important is timing, and intent.

Helen Thomas’s career as a journalist extends back to WWII. In fact, she was reporting on events in Washington before President Obama took his first steps. (I will leave the geographical location of those steps to your imagination.)

A daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Thomas rose through the ranks—eventually becoming the dean of the White House Press Corps.

But the old adage held true for the old girl: “getting to the top is a lot easier than staying there.” Thomas’s leftward bias drew the attention of Americans who expected more news and less opinion from the 4th Estate. She left UPI in 2000 after 57 years, and took a job more suited to her particular talents: liberal opinion columnist for Hearst Newspapers.

Thomas spent most of the next decade expressing her displeasure with President Bush. While that alone puts her in one of the least exclusive media clubs in the world, Thomas evidently wasn’t satisfied with skewering the GOP. As she put it during a speech in 2008:

“I censored myself for 50 years when I was a reporter. Now I wake up and ask myself, ‘Who do I hate today?’"

Not exactly the kind of inquisitive impartiality one might expect from a venerated veteran of the front lines of reportage. After all, isn’t it the conservatives who “hate?”

Thomas engaged in pitched battles with the Bush Administration. She once told an autograph seeker that Bush was the “worst president in history,” and that if Dick Cheney ran for President in 2008 she would “kill herself.”

All the while, Thomas continued to present Islamic terrorist groups which engaged in bombings as victims of a US/Israel plot. In 2006, she rose in defense of Hezbollah, suggesting that Israel was entirely to blame for the unrest in the Mideast. Her rant was so appallingly bent to favor people who were, at that time, planting bombs next to Tel Aviv teenagers, that then Press Secretary Tony Snow was compelled to respond: “thank you for the Hezbollah view.”

Now, a statue of Helen to preserve her mug for the eons ahead. If a museum in Dearborn, Mich., (Dearborn boasts a population of which 33 percent are Arabic by heritage) is honoring a famous and successful Arab-American, then so be it. One might be tempted to suggest there are members of that demographic who are more accomplished, less offensive to victims of terrorism, or at least easier to look at. But the timing smells like day-old falafel.

Thomas stopped being the dean of the White House Press Corps this past May, after she popped her cork on camera about Israel in this exchange with a Rabbi during Jewish Heritage Day at the White House:

Nesenoff: We’re asking everybody today, any comments on Israel?
Thomas: Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.
Nesenoff: Oooh. Any better comments on Israel?
Thomas: Remember, these people are occupied and it’s their land. It’s not German, it’s not Poland…
Nesenoff: So where should they go?
Thomas: They go home.
Nesenoff: Where’s the home?
Thomas: Poland. Germany.

So the Jews should leave their homeland (in which they lived by the Word and Grace of the Land Lord of all landlords) and head for Germany. That worked out so well for them last time. How did Helen become statue-worthy—if not statuesque—at the same moment she pulled the stopper out of her anti-Semitism bottle? Mere coincidence seems unlikely.

As you read this a group headed by an Imam (Feisal Abdul Rauf) with ties to backers of hyper-oppressive Sharia law wants to build a mosque within rpg-range of Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. Abdul-Rauf is of the opinion that 9/11 represented our collective chickens coming home to roost. (I hope he didn’t glom that line from Jeremiah Wright.) Rauf has also suggested that “…Osama bin Laden is made in the USA”—my, how insightful.

Americans are often excoriated for our lack of sensitivity toward Muslims, illegal aliens and portly ex-White House correspondents. At what point do those aforementioned folks owe us the same in return?

Heck, build a $100 million mosque which makes the Cathedral at Chartres look like a Vegas wedding chapel. But consider building it in Dearborn—or take Helen’s advice: build it in Palestine.

Her statue will look… lovely in the foyer.

I am sorry Ben but you obviously can’t recognize greatness when you see it. Maybe it’s because , as it states in your bio, you are still trying to undo the damage of education or propaganda training. After all anyone, especially an Arab woman, who dares speak truth to power when it comes to the Israeli Arab conflict must be an antisemite, must always be wrong, and must be ridiculed.

Personally I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to Lady Helen Thomas. She was a lonely voice of sanity willing to jeopardize her career while all others merely beat the drums of war and toed the line like good little embedded reporters. Most of them more worried about paying their mortgages and being part of the club than reporting and investigating which is what they are all supposed to do. The end result speaks for itself. Mainstream media has been beating the drums of war every step of the way. Anyone who has taken a difference stance has been eliminated one way or another. The number of reporters killed by friendly fire is at an all time high all over the world.

Somehow people have forgotten that we cannot have a healthy democracy without a strong press and Helen Thomas obviously was one of the few brave and courageous willing to go it alone. Until then this democracy will continue in it’s downward spiral until it crashes. And all who got it wrong will have had a hand in its demise.

The irony of it all is Fox getting her seat. I call it the Sublime and the Ridiculous!

    • Jerry D

Eric, If you think she’s great, then obviously you subscribe to her personal beliefs. She is a leftwing demagogue with not a single shred of objectivity in her being. Sounds like that’s your side of the street, too.

      • Eric Bischoff

She’s an old woman who has sat through countless BS white house press events surrounded by gutless reporters who just toe the line. I am surprised more people don’t snap and speak their mind. And what is so wrong with responding that they should go home to where they came from. If they can’t get along with their neighbors they should go home. The problem is not what she said, the problem is all of the assumptions that we know what’s really going on there because we hear it on the news. We know nothing in this country. It’s the same story as when we the europeans came over and displaced and wiped out the American Indians. I am sure that if someone had spoken the truth then and said the Europeans should go home to where they came from they would have been ostracized even though they were the only voice of reason. Everyone else is just to chicken to speak the truth.

        • TIME

Though I do applaud Miss Thomas for being honest about her feelings, I also feel she could have used far more grace.

As to gutless reporters that sit with their mouths closed, {I could not agree with you more,} Yet saddly the ones who do ask questions of the nut jobs in the WH are black balled,

So whats one to do if they have bills to pay a home to pay for kids etc..
So it is very sad that we have such restrictive confines within what is touted as a free press.

So in conclusion, I may not agree with you 100%, But I do respect your being honest about how you feel.

Thanks for a good post, TIME

          • Mike Combs

This is just one more example of the times. This woman is filled with hate for christians and mostly Jews. I dont care what her opinion is or about her inability to report facts without bias. The major issue here is like all devout musslems she is full of hatered and ill intent. The fact that we allow these people to be honored is beyond me just as much as allowing them to build a mosque at ground zero where this same cult took thousands of American lives. Reguarding the Jews homeland, Palistine belongs to the jews thats their land everyone else can get out of it.

        • Jerry D

Well, I’d have to agree with you there. I was sports journalist for some time, but would not like being a political reporter. I really don’t object to her speaking her mind, except hers seemed quite anti-semitic.

        • Granny Mae

Since you have such strong feelings and opinions about people that have relocated from one place to another, such as jews to Isreal and europeans to America I suggest that you take your opinions and move back to where your ancestors migrated from! Go home and don’t let the door hit you on the out !

    • airangel

A strong press? You mean a biased left swinging press! Thank God for Fox news! Someone to actually have a different viewpoint than all the Anti-American viewpoints or someone to at least challenge and play devil’s advocate! What do you want? All of us to be brainwashed and be the good Stepford Children because those currently in charge want it “their” way?

Helen Thomas was VERY biased in her thinking against Jews…as for this mosque…lets build a statue of Hitler in Jerusalem or a Synagogue in Mecca or would that be “too sensitive”? This Mosque is wrong for many reasons and if this IMAM really wants to unite us all in peace and love, they can build it somewhere else and still have “their” center! I mean after all the Saudis have already funded over 33 mosques and several are already being “profiled” for terrorist activity! I personally don’t by the intentions of thie IMAM and his Hamas terrorist background one bit!

      • Angelgirl

I agree, totally. Thse wonderful people, seem to glorify the EVIL, & denounce the rest of us! Vote them, out,& expose them for who they are.

What is wrong with your thinking? Living in the USA and thinking like a terrorist. So much hate in her soul. She had the world and the gift but is badly blinded. Israel will “never” be uprooted, they are home. Helen Thomas needs to be deported to live with her fellow countrymen based on her beliefs. She should not be a US citizen and should definitely not be honor for being so biased and full of hate. She is taking the freedom this country provides her and attempting to destroy that very freedom. She is sick.

      • James

Heather, At a time when all Israelites were under King David, in Palestine, the Lord told Nathan to tell David (2 Sam. 7:10): “Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime.” Since all the Israelites were then in Palestine, this “place of their own” from which they would “move no more” cannot possibly be in the Holy Land.

        • Linda Morris

James, Since you respect the written Bible’s promises, look into Genesis C. 17, vs.7,8. And again, Genesis 28:vs.12-15.
We must be humble in our accessment of God’s word.

      • Granny Mae

Don’t forget who it is that is venerating her. Detroit and Dearborn are heavy with Muslims and they AIN’T nice either !

    • Jerry D

The Founding Fathers despised democracies and did not give us a democracy. They gave us a democratic republic (the first in the history of the world) that was based on Judeo-Christian principles of law and justice.

      • http://naver Samurai

100% agree and right on the money. Keep up the good fight Jerry! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • refuse2lose

Eric… did you hit your head waking up this morning? Maybe someone didn’t make you breakfast just the way you liked it? Maybe you came in contact with a Jew,whom if you agree with hater Helen’s comments and beliefs then you surely must hate them? Your comment is actually something that should be made viral, sent out to all Jewish websites and anywhere that Jews frequent. They should know that there are people like you trolling the internet, praising a person who supported terrorists groups and wished harm upon an innocent people.

I suggest that you go back to bed,and start your day over. You might see the error of your ways.

    • marvin

Eric Bischoff news reporting is not reporting your own belives, news is what it is not what you want it to be, or think it should be, as most reporters do today the hell with facts if i tell a little untruth [lie] to make someone look bad or take things out off context is not reporting, it,s more off a soap opera on who can tell the biggest story half truth and out right lies

      • eddie47d

I support Israel’s right to exist for many reasons and I also support a Palestinian State to stabilize the region. Now for the news issue. Glenn Beck and Rush are very one sided and extremely bias on all issues and affect millions of viewers so cut Helen some slack. Helen has strong opinions (like everyone on this site).Dick Cheney (Mr. torture) also has very strong opinions;as does Fox News. All those mentioned have had to have foot removed from mouth on more than one occasion.

        • Vicki

Last time I checked Glen an Rush were in the business of sharing their opinions with us and or entertain us. They do NOT claim to be news reporters.

          • eddie47d

If they are entertainers then why do you quote them as newsworthy facts? Is that convenience of the moment?

          • TIME

Mr Glenn Beck I have met and I will say that he is a straight forward down to earth person who is doing a “great job of educating” folks on the real facts, of also known as the Truth, as well he will not even post on his show anything that he can’t triple check.
That I can’t say for any other news persons on any station you may wish to quote from.

Saddly Ed, your telie and all 5000000 channels have little of that very RARE commodity called “the TRUTH.” 99% of what you see is tainted to the point of absurdity.

So again as to Mr Glenn Beck he may not be a reporter but in so far as the “TRUTH” he is 1000000000000 fold better than any reporter on any channel you can quote.

Of what I also know many, and to say they are as stupid as a box of rusty nails is giving them far more credit than they should have.

        • JeffH

fast eddie says: “All those mentioned have had to have foot removed from mouth on more than one occasion.”
Now you are speaking from first hand experience, time and time again.

          • eddie47d

Everyone puts foot in mouth big boy including you.Not everyone has foot up ass like you do time and time again. Get over your self importance Jeff: it’s not working.

          • libertytrain

Eddie – good grief – you are reminding me of a high school boy – and I’m sure you don’t want that.

          • eddie47d

L.T. If Jeff wants to play the school yard bully he get’s the same treatment. He never listens to anything sensible and agrees with too many fringe comments.

          • libertytrain

            ok kids settle down.

    • James Hay

Helen Thomas should be forcebly deported to palestine and refused reentry into the United States for the rest of her pathetic pro-terrorist life. now I really Think that Dick Chaney should hav ran for President of The United States If it really meant that this WHORE of Terrorism would KILL Herself, that would mean be rid of at least one piece of Liberal TRASH. as far as that mosque they might buld it but will it remain?

      • Whassupwidat

        Don’t Worry…

I have it on GOOD Authority, that they Cloned Helen Thomas, for the 73 Virgins…

        • libertytrain

Oh that is sweet. Imagine the surprise at the end of their rainbow.

        • Granny Mae

          OMG ! LOL!

    • Dave

Wait a minute. If her history is so important to her, why does she show that ugly face? Tell the hag to wear a burka, it’s more appealing than her hidious double chins.

      • eddie47d

Judge not least you be judged! Everyone has an ugly duckling in their family.

        • http://naver Samurai

You must be the one in your family, edduh!

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Eric Bischoff… You say…. We can not have a healthy democracy without a strong press. If you had used the word unbiased in place of strong, that statement may have had a ring of truth to it. The MSM has been in bed with the left for years. They are biased and continuing to get worse! The only positive thing I can say about our present administration is that sleepy America is waking up and recognizing how we have been duped for years. Our politicians can’t be trusted and neither can the MSM. Helen Thomas did march to the beat of a different drummer, but she was partial in her thinking and reporting, which is a hinderance to one who makes their living as a reporter.

      • Vicki

Pravda provided a good example. Strong as an Ox but no one in the Western Hemisphere went to them for unbiased reporting of what was happening in the USSR.

        • Eric Bischoff

What’s interesting there is that Russians had a saying. At least we know we are being lied to but you guys think you have a free press and are getting the truth.

    • John

Oh yeah, we are deeply indebted to Mz. Thomas. Moron.

    • Carl

We once rented a house from a Mrs. Bischoff in Atlanta who was a very nice woman. Obviously she isn’t related in any way to Eric Bischoff who seems to hate anyone who doesn’t believe in liberal progressivism. I believe I prefer an American which has religious freedoms and personal freedoms because of our Christian heritage based on the Holy Word of our Lord God, Yahweh. Sad there is so much bitterness in the world today, and the press corps is part of that.

    • American Citizen

Eric, Greatness? A reporter is supposed to be objective and just report the news, not analyze it or inject personal bias. Those are columns you find on the editorial pages.

  • Dennis

If she can launch a thousand lunches, I wonder if they are halal? With a face like hers, she could sink a thousand ships!

    • coal miner

Do you mean Helen of Troy?

  • J.. Weiss

All newspeople have apolitical viewpoint which seeps through their reporting, whether they like it or not. The illustrious Ms. Thomas, however, is a hater. She is not a thinker with a view but like many people from the Islamic world, she will never be confused by the facts. Well I guess one can take some solace that her hatred finally was her downfall, though it certainly took much too long to happen. Kind of like all these octogenarian war criminals that assert their age and their infirmity and beg for humanitarian treatment after killing 10s of thousands and hiding from justice for 60 years. She is an embarrasment to the US press corp and has been so for decades. Between the extremes of a Chris Mathews and Glenn Beck Helen is a hateful antisemitic pro-islamist hater who makes them seem comfortably in the spectrum of rational punditry.

    • Eric Bischoff

I think that the only thing that Helen Thomas hated was the stupidity of war, oppression and occupation and the despicable coward politicians who so willingly started these wars based on lies or just went along and helped fund them.

      • DR. D

Eric,You smoke to much of that stuff that pollutes your thinking.

      • DaveH

I suggest you read the History of Israel, Eric. They have been pushed around wherever they go. I think because they are a hard-working generally successful people who therefore garner the hatred of those who aren’t. Here is a starter article:

The land which is now Israel has been changing hands throughout written history. It belongs to nobody any more than it belongs to Israel. The Palestinians could have chosen to be at peace with their neighbors, but they instead chose to attack, which resulted in retaliatory action by the Israelis.
Muslims are a war-like people who only exist in peace with their neighbors if they think they will be otherwise destroyed.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Eric Bischoff… Are you sure this is not just your disposition?

  • SammysDad

    Mr. Bischoff:
“Strong Press” needed for a healthy democracy???? You got to be out of your mind. The press nowadays is in the tank for the progressive cause. It does so poorly reporting the news objectively. It always writes with subjective content, lies, spin, rhetoric and is especially adept at outright omissions of important issues. There is a journalistic sickness that pervades the entire industry, and Helen Thomas was the top of it all, a biased, mean, and hateful woman. Her departure will not be missed.

    • Eric Bischoff

SammysDad you just might be the one has bought the propaganda that we have a liberal progressive press. I know if you keep repeating a lie often enough they will buy it. The press is bought and paid for. Most Americans get their sanctioned approved news from 6 very large Multinational corporations. They are centrist or often conservative. Calling them liberal and progressive won’t make it so ever. The liberal (free thinkers) progressive press is the alternative press. It is mostly listener or viewer funded, non-profit and struggling to get the work done and out to the public. They are constantly fund raising just to stay afloat.

There are only 2 viewer supported/funded channels in America. Link TV and Free Speech TV. They are on DishNetwork and recently on DirectTV satellites. I don’t know about cable. Then you have the always struggling Pacifica Foundation that has a few radio stations around the country. There are some great news shows like Amy Goodman’s DemocracyNow, Laura Flanders GritTV, and The Tom Hartmann show. They also have the audacity to run Al Jazeera and Mosaique for another alternative viewpoint. And all of the documentaries, my god a plethora of documentaries, labors of love, that you never ever see on mainstream media.

If you don’t ALSO watch and listen to these, then you really are only getting one very conservative propagandist view of the world. You need to put your money where your mouth is and support these organizations. Until you do that you have no reference point on what is progressive or what is conservative.

Or are you a self professed fair and balanced Fox only devotee?

      • Jerry D

One solid reading of the Constitution and just a little study will enable anyone with a smidgen of intelligence see that the vast majority of the liberal press is absolutely in the tank for the far left. Eric, are you on the payroll for one of the liberal clogs, oops, blogs or somethingh?

      • Jerry D

By the way, I watch ABC and CNN frequently. It’s informative to see how they skew the news and pass on lies. It’s you that’s not objective and open to the truth.

      • Bill J

Eric Bischoff; Those of us who disagree with you are are self professed fair and balanced Americans and that includes majority of democrats who support Israel!

      • DaveH

I have watched news programs from all the major networks and they have all (until Fox appeared on the scene) been purveyors of the one-sided Liberal propaganda. For instance, I have rarely seen any politically-oriented programs on the MSM which didn’t give short shrift to the Libertarian point of view. Yet the Libertarians have a very principled message which would probably appeal to a majority of people if they only had exposure to the Libertarian principles and why they would work. Then along came your nemesis, Fox. Now, on Fox channels (Foxnews and Fox Business Network) you can hear from several prominent Libertarians (John Stossel, Judge Napolitano, etc.).
Why would the Mainstream Media be afraid of the Libertarian message? Could it be because they and their corporate sponsors wouldn’t like the competition offered by the Free Market which Libertarians promote?

        • Eric Bischoff

I rest my case. None of you have any idea of the spectrum of news that is available. You are all stuck with myopic mainstream media which, just like our government, is 2 sides of the same corrupt coin. It’s all conservative centrist waving back and forth slightly left or right.

You have no idea of what real progressive ideas could do for this country because you are all too afraid to even listen. You also have memory problems because you have forgotten that all progress in this world, whether it’s the 40 hour work week, or no more child labor or Medicare, or education , civil rights, human rights, social security were all fought and won for all of us by progressives fighting conservatives who are always against change even when it’s good for all of us. Hell this country was formed by progressives fighting the conservative royal ruling class. Unfortunately we’ve now traded kings for CEOs and the same madness goes on.

You are all watching and listening to entertainment news arguing about the slightly left or right point of view when it’s all the same with the same agenda. Keeping the majority as poor slaves and making as much money as possible for the ruling class. They are winning and unless you are part of the ruling class and I doubt you are or you wouldn’t be hanging out here then you are all suckers.

          • DaveH

A typical ignorant statement from a Liberal. You know nothing of where I have gotten my information over the years, yet you attack me as if you did.
Your statement of conditions that have been brought about by Liberals (Progressives) has no basis of fact. They are just conjecture. You have no way to disprove that without Progressive meddling we might have had those improvements and more.
All any thinking person need do is to look at this list of countries arranged in order of those with the least Government intrusion in the economy and those with the most Government intrusion to see the results of the Government force that is advocated by Liberals (pick the country links to see the particulars):

History is littered with the bodies of failed countries who tried the Socialist experiment.

          • eddie47d

Dave H. Nice list but was surprised to see Yemen above India. Socialist Europe is always close to the top so not all of “them” are bad. Most towards bottom are just plain dictators but probably government run dictators. The reason Libertarians aren’t on mainstream news channels because they are a minority in the political world. If they talk you guys up then they would have to include all political parties. The Tea Party received plenty of attentions and maybe if you join ranks you can be in the spotlight also.

          • DaveH

There are different degrees of Socialism. By the pure definition of Socialism (Government owns all business), there are none that I know of. They may be out there, but I am not aware of them. I guess Cuba would come as close as any.
Here is a list of countries that refer to themselves as Socialist:

The point I am making is that if Socialism is bad in the extreme application, then it is unlikely to be good in varying degrees of that.

I have a hard time figuring why anybody would prefer the force of Government over the voluntary contracts of a Free Market. I think many people confuse Free Markets with the situations where Government favors certain companies with their power of force. That is far from the case. In a Free Market, the Government does not get involved in picking favorites. In Economically Free countries, it is relatively simple to get a business license, and companies do not have to jump through myriad paperwork hoops (that costs lots of money) which don’t keep people honest any better than well enforced laws do.
I’m glad to see you’re actually thinking about these things, Eddie.

      • Whassupwidat

All anyone has to do is look at the Numbers… Less & Less People ‘partaking’ of most EVERY Leftist Media Outlet Print or Otherwise. These people wouldn’t know the ‘Truth’ if it flew a plane into their building(s)… And yet they continue to ‘spew’ their collective ‘CRAP’ (i.e., Talking Points) as if it were some sort of ‘original’ thought…

      • American Citizen

Eric, how old are you? Your naivete is showing.

  • Jerry

Israeli ownership of that land is Biblical, written in a book thousands of years old. But, somehow people like you still support the arbitrary launching of rockets into Isreali neighborhoods by Palestinian terrorists.
How long would you let someone slap you in the face before you put your hands up?

    • Eric Bischoff

Jerry you don’t know what I support so I will tell you. I support an end to the CRIMINAL occupation of Palestinians, Iraqis, Afghans and soon Iranians. I would like all of our troops to come home now and forever and the closure of our obscene and super expensive 100 military bases all over the world. I think the world is tired of our military presence.

Here is a metaphor for you. What if the Chinese, who now own a very large portion of our debt and assests, decided that it was time they opened some military bases here in America so that they can protect these assets. Like in LA since they own the port of Los Angeles or maybe Kansas. How do you think that would go over? Do you think that maybe some of our well meaning and well armed citizens might decide to take shots at them, blow some things up, kidnap some Chinese soldiers? How do you think this would go over?

What If Palestinians were white Americans being treated the way they are being treated by the Israeli govt. Now you know that they would resort to launching rockets and they would be shooting their oppressors right and left. We love our guns and we have plenty of them. I don’t know if we would be willing to do the suicide bomber thing. That takes a lot of desperation to get to that stage don’t you think?

      • Bob

Eric, I don’t know why you waste your time trying to get through to these brainwashed people. Most Americans believe what they read in the newspapers or see on Fox news. Won’t they feel stupid when the US is no more than a 3rd world country. Most people are starting to see through the propaganda of the media. That’s why newspapers are dying a slow death. Good riddance.

        • Jerry D

The US is on the way to becoming a third world country due to the policies of progressives (Republicans and Dems), especially those of our present POTUS. I agree with you about getting our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. As far as I’m concerned, those people have been at war with each other for 2,000 years and they’re not worth a single life of our young people. As far as America is concerned, we should oust this present regime and put the progressives out of business.

          • eddie47d

            Or the Republicans.

      • Jerry D

Israel occupied that land for almost 1500 years. God gave it to them and they had a right to reclaim it. Israel only resorts to violence in answer to the violence of the Palestinians. The Israeli teams treat the Palestinian wounded with the same care as Israeli wounded. Would the Palestinians do likewise – NO! As far as I’m concerned, the Israeli ought to shove the Palestinians into the Arab countries and dispossess the whole lot.

      • DaveH

I’m with you on the United States not being the World’s Policemen. In the case of Israel, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Why do you assume that Israel started the trouble? I, quite frankly, don’t know who started it, but I have observed actions by Jews and actions by Muslims. From my experience my bet would be that the Muslims started the trouble.
One question, if you believe, as I do, that the United States ought to butt out (except in the case of retaliatory action for attacks on our country), then why do you presume to butt into Israel’s business?

      • Yankee Will

Hey Eric. Why don’t you try living in one of those countries you seem to feel so sorry for. I’d sleep better at night knowing people like you are out of my country…

  • Alfred L Moniot MD

She is (and has been for quite a while) obviously demented!

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Raymond Moore

Sounds like Eric was dropped on his noggin a few to many times whilst wrestling with the truth.

  • Pat Boyd

Eric is obviously an Arab himself or otherwise he could not be so factLESS and barren of the truth.

    • Jerry D

Actually, Pat, he’s probably just a misguided liberal who is the product of a leftist education. It’s pretty obvious that he can’t think for himself.

      • Eric Bischoff

Yes Liberal which means Open Minded. Something any decent loving human being should aspire to be.

        • Jerry D

That’s one of the most ludicrous statements I’ve ever heard. There is absolutely nothing open-minded about progressives.

        • DaveH

In the past, that was indeed the definition of Liberal. But the people who have co-opted that term are anything but open-minded. They want what they want, and, by God they will get it through any underhanded immoral means possible.
Your minds are open all right, like deep space.

    • Eric Bischoff

And what if I was an Arab, does that make me less of a human being in your eyes?

Plese give me some specifics on where you think I am factless and barren of the truth.

      • Jerry D

The color of a person’s skin, their ethnic background, or any other racial/ethnic characteristic should never make a difference in the way they are treated or respected. We are all equal in the eyes of God. I have no way of knowing your ethnic background and it really doesn’t matter. But when it comes to your politics, there we have an issue.

      • Pat Boyd

No, being an Arab definitely does not make you less of anything in my mind. Only if one is an Arab living in the USA who has no loyalty to this country and has the desire to dominate the world and bring oppression to certain groups….women, etc. I just can’t see how any compassionate, educated person can agree with those things. I should not have said Arab but those with the political, radical Islamist agenda.

    • eddie47d

Okay, spill your guts; What is your truth in comparison to what Eric has said?

  • Fempatriot

Israel defines itself as “a Jewish state” of, for, by Jews only. Nobody else is wanted. Just their money. Since 1947 they have terrorized the Palestinians who lived there for generations–driving nearly a million out in the very beginning of “Israel.” Every year the USA enables Israel in its ethnic cleansing of all non-Jews by sending Israel at least THREE BILLION DOLLARS. That’s as much as the USA dishes out to all the other nations in the world. The Palestinians have been walled into two segments: The Gaza strip, where a million and a half Christian and Muslim Palestinians live in the world’s largest prison, and the West Bank, where another two and a half million Palestinians live in villages that are virtual prisons also, even though they are Palestinian villages–the gates are closed by Israel from 7 p.m. till 7 a.m. and God help anyone who needs to go from village to village during that time. Israel is a rogue state, secular–with the majority of Israelis being atheist but following the Old Testament traditions of keeping the sabbeth. They call themselves a democracy, and they are a democracy–a Jewish democracy. No Palestinians have a part in the lawmaking. Thousands of Christians have fled from Israel since it became a “Jewish state.” Israel has no constitution, and no defined borders, since they are imperialistic and want their borders to keep expanding into the other Arab countries. Their total attitude toward their Middle Eastern neighbors has been imperialistic and hostile. The West Bank has become riddled with Jewish “settlements” that are guarded by the Israeli military, and these so-called “settlers” constantly harass the Palestinians–fouling their water cisterns, shooting at them as they try to grow crops, destroying their olive groves. They are aided and abetted by the Israeli military. the majority of Israeli Jews are not semitic, but are of a Turkic race called the Khazars from Khazaria, which was southern Turkey/Russia, on the Caspian Sea. They converted to Judaism in 740 A.D. and were driven out of Khazaria by the Mongols in the 13th century where they spread into Europe and Russia. They call themselves Ashkenazi now, and are distinct from the Sephardic Jews. Anyone who believes that a just god would favor one race/religion over another or parcel out a piece of desert real estate has a warped view of a just god. The Hebrews written history tells how they murdered men, women, and children to acquire that piece of real estate. And they are trying to do it again. It is against the law in Israel to try to convert a Jew–it will get you a jail term. It is also against the law for a Jew to marry a non-Jew. Those who do outside Israel are discriminated against. Even South Africa was not as racist as Israel is. They are building an apartheid wall that is a much bigger monstrosity than the Berlin Wall was–and it is being built on Palestinian land–in order to annex more land from the Palestinians. When Israel was “created” by Great Britain, Israel was given 78% of the land of Palestine. The Palestinians were given a mere 22% of their own land. Now Israel has acquired more of Palestinian land, and Palestinians have about 12% left. Daily they are humiliated, browbeaten, brutalized, and even killed by Israelis. Palestinian children are malnourished; Israel will not allow building materials into Palestine to rebuild all the homes that have been bombed by Israel…the list goes on and on of Israeli crimes against humanity. And the world is getting sick and tired of it. Israel is a rogue state that is going to have to be dealt with or there will never be “peace” in that region, for Israel has no desire for peace thus far. And no respect for anyone.

    • Eric Bischoff

Yes! one voice of reason with some facts. Thank you FemPatriot.

    • Jerry D

The Bible teaches that God commanded the Israelites to conquer that land and to elimiinate the then current population (actually, “exterminate”). If you carefully study Scripture, you will find that God used the Israelites to execute His judgment upon them for their sins. So, blame God, if you must, but not the obedient Israelites. In fact, their allowing some of occupants of the land to live, contrary to God’s command, caused them a lot of grief later. It takes just a little study in ancient history to see that the nations of the Middle East routinely practiced genocide. The difference was that the Israelites were commanded by God to do so, as the instruments of His judgment .

      • Bob

Please tell me what scripture tells you this. I’d like to be as knowledgeable as you;.

        • Jerry D

Sorry about the lengthy time between posts. I have a real life, too.

Reference God using the Israelites as His tool for judgment, in regards to the Abrahamic Covenant, Genesis 15:13-16 says: “Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve (Egypt) I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” There are other references, but this is not the venue for instruction in ancient Middle Eastern history.

A thorough study in ancient history of the inhabitants of the Promised Land prior to the invasion of the Israelites reveals that they were rife with immorality and disease. God purged the Promised Land in preparation for habitation by His Chosen People.

    • del

Palestinian land? What makes you think that. Where or how did you come up with all this? You never have been to Israel. Which is easy to tell by your misguided rant. You make it sound like Palestinian people are friendly people, that have never casted the first stone. Thats a tuff sell to make right there buddy! If they would stop harassing Israel Israel would stop defending itself.

    • RedViking

Eric & FemPatsy – Perhaps you both need another History lesson… The Palestinian people have NEVER had a Defined Country… They have always tried to take someone else’s. God did command the Israelites to take the lands set aside for them, by force if necessary. Palestinians have always hated that they are not the Chosen. They have tried to Take lands in other countries, and failed.
Israel at least allows them to live.
They tried to take lands in Syria once as well.
When they tried the same thing in there, they were given a city. Once they were there, the Syrian Military Bombed and Shelled the city until EVERY LIVING THING in the city was dead. They then Bull-Dozed the rubble until it was returned to the desert. The Palestinians have never tried to TAKE Syrian land ever again… Need I remind you that Syria is a Arab state. Even the Arab peoples apparently do not want them. Hopefully you have learned something from this.

    • coal miner

I absolutely agree with you.According to Rabbi Elmer Berger, there is no historical evidence that the Palestinian area ever belong to the Jews.It belongs to Arabs.

      • Jerry D

Not if God gave it to the Israelites and, as Scripture clearly tells us, He did.

        • Eric Bischoff

Well there you go. Create a fairy tale story and you can forever excuse all of your doings because God told you to do it. Wait a minute wasn’t that Bush’s story too. God told him to attack the Middle East. How convenient. How despicable.

FemPatriot? patriot of what: Hezbollah? What you wrote is not true. You repeat Arab talking points. The Hezbollah/Palestinian militants attack Israel almost daily without provocation and manufacture biased reports claiming Israeli military attacked first. So much for “liberals” being open-minded. More like tightly closed minds that refuse to budge.

      • Eric Bischoff

Without provocation. That’s good I like that. You guys are funny.

    • WideRanger

Ok, Fem…any U.S. citizen will take drastic, violent, and unforgiving action if you sit outside his yard and lob rockets at their children and homes. Point out someone trying to destroy my family and I will curse, claw, shred, shoot, and use any violent strategy inclined to get relief from the threat. My opinion of you is now very large; you and Eric and a few others like you…JUST ANAL RETENTIVE! That is to say, you’re full of it, and it ain’t intelligence!

  • Eric Bischoff

Bring it on. I’ll debate all of you. Let’s get some facts and some history into this. Or is all you have just silly, bully, school yard, name calling stuff.

    • Ben Crystal

I would caution you that objecting to ad-hominem attacks after engaging in them yourself won’t do you any favors here.

      To all:

Eric is right about one thing: we do need a strong 4th estate. A free and inquisitive press dedicated to reporting facts is a vital part of the advance of a well-founded republic. BUT (and it’s a big BUT)- the idea that Helen Thomas was a part of a strong 4th estate is false.

She was, and is, overtly skewed in her views, and was never able to disassociate those views from responsible reporting. After she joined Hearst, her anti-GOP bent was fine, because she was no longer claiming to be a reporter. Perhaps the left should consider a concession: You all are routinely outraged by what you see as a rightward bias on FoxNews, yet find the stylings of a Helen Thomas, or an MSNBC, or the New York Times, as “fair.” Rethink the logic of that obvious logical fallacy.

As for Ms. Thomas: simple longevity doesn’t equate with legendary status. Think of it in NFL terms. Steve DeBerg enjoyed longevity. John Elway is a legend.

      • Eric Bischoff

Actually Helen Thomas was a lone voice and the powers that be, the government, the ruling class and their bull horn the mainstream media, finally got rid of her. She was the only one willing to press on. Who is left now?

        • J. Marine

          Certainly not you, Eric!

        • DaveH

And your fellow Liberals, Eric, were the first ones to throw Helen under the bus when she dared to speak her true feelings.

          • DaveH

Let he (or she) who is without sin cast the first stone.

          • Bob

There are no liberals or conservatives, no right wing or left wing. There are only those who love America and those that hate it and want to destroy it.

          • DaveH

My definition of Liberal and Conservative go back to the roots of this country, Bob. Liberal want to cast aside the Freedom that began this country and Conservatives want to embrace that Freedom. Please don’t confuse Right-Wingers with Conservatives.

          • eddie47d

I know there is a difference but too many right wingers claim conservative values so things get rather hazy.

          • DaveH

Such is the English Language. It would probably be much better for communications if the words were more precise, so we could all understand exactly what others are saying.

    • Mark the Bear

Eric, seriously, you need to see a specialist. Something is bad wrong with your outlook. We first learned of “Palestinian people” after the 6-day war in 1967. That’s when Soviet trained Arafat started PLO with the help from arab states.
Now, your body Fempatriot is off his rocker completely. Israeli arabic population, who are the citizens of Israel, vote in Israeli elections and are represented at every level of Israeli Government.
So, your and …patriot’s spin proves that you are two bigots with deep seated anti-semitic convictions.
You can’t build anything on foundation of hate. Israel has its faults, to be sure. However, when a Jew wronged you in a way – all Jews are no good. But, for example, a 100,000 members of General Vlasov’s army, who fought alongside with the Germans in the WWII are apostates of Russian nation.

    • Jerry D

I saw little facts, just leftwing rhetoric.

    • WideRanger

Facts don’t seem to matter to you Eric. Would you know a fact if it walked up and shook you? Take of the ‘hide the bloodshot eyes’ shades and discover a few ‘facts’ so you can develop a strategy for using them. Like you friend Obummer says, ‘you can’t have your own facts’~

  • J. Longendyke

Helen Thomas: What a pathetic example of “unbiased” press. However, I do give her credit for speaking her mind, because 90% of the media simply doesn’t report. As for other comments..It’s by the Grace of God that America allows people like Helen Thomas to speak her mind, even though she is a bitter old woman. It is because of the Constitution of the United States, that others and I have the freedom to speak our mind. But, freedom? Where was freedom in Dearborn when four Christian’s were arrested for being available to talk to Muslims with questions about Christianity???? Where is sensitivity in regards to building mosques in locations which are painful to people….Ground Zero? (Or….is this the practice of the symbolic “building on conquered land? U-m-m”) Where is common sense when baby Muslim girls are being mutilated and Muslim women stoned to death because of a “religious” belief? Helen Thomas and those who honor her should find residence elsewhere. My Muslim friends shudder at the thought of a statue in her likeness. She does NOT represent “them.”

Our God is an Awesome God.
    And, he doesn’t hate.

    • Jerry D

The right of free speech, as far as progressives are concerned, is only available to progressives. If conservatives wish to practice it, it’s called hate speech by the liberal left.

  • evie

The unfortunate part of vocal people, like Eric and Helen, with perverted reasoning they reproduce therefore filling much space with negative, useless, foolish chatter. • Eric Bischoff

Actually I believe that Jesus upon meeting Helen Thomas probably would have washed her feet.

And you are right my fuhrer, Helen and I could very well be on a watch list. Because that is what America and Israel have become, the modern day, more acceptable, more refined version of the Nazis. We don’t use gas chambers but we do have assassination squads, extraordinary rendition, torture and imprisonment without due process. We are now the oppressors, the Empire builders. I

You know how when a child has been abused and they didn’t get therapy they often become an abuser later in life. That is how I see Israel right now. They need an intervention. They need a new government. We all need new governments.

      • Jerry D

You really don’t like Christ much, do you? And it’s obvious that you have an anti-Christian bias.

      • John Alvey, Sioux City, Iowa

Eric mentioned a child being abused, I believe his caretaker dropped him on his head.

      • DaveH

You’re funny, Eric. In all my years, I have not once been forced to do anything I didn’t want to do by conservatives. But Liberals, whenever they are in power, forcibly take more of my money to spend wastefully, dictate my energy choices, dictate my healthcare choices, and put me squarely in the middle of their futile Drug Wars. Note that there are Liberals in both Major Parties by my definition of Liberal. I consider anybody who advocates Big Government to be a Liberal.

    • eddie47d

Jerry Springer? What an egotistical moron without morals. There are a few right wingers on this site who should be turned over to homeland security so I concur.

      • DaveH

One of the beauties of Freedom of Speech is that it gives upset people a chance to vent. It’s much better that they talk about the things that are bothering them, than to bottle it up until they explode in violence.

  • James A Graham

Barack OBAMA, in his Cairo speech, said: “I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.”

    Dear Mr(?) Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed? Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the United StatesConstitution?

    Declaration of Independence?

    Bill of Rights?

    Didn’t think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country’s freedom from England? No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America? No, they did not. In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as “pug nosed slaves.” Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family’s “rich Islamic heritage,” doesn’t it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country? Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country’s Woman’s Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so , that often they are beaten for not wearing the ‘hajib’ or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women’s rights, aren’t they?

Where were Muslims during World War II? They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazi’s in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001? If they weren’t flying planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East. No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very “moderate” Muslims who’s asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo, Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Ame ricans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the “rich he ritage” Muslims have here in America.

Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslim.

And now we can add November 5, 2009 – the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That, Mr. Obama is the “Muslim heritage” in America.

Eric, a liberal is a moron who think more and total government control is great. The palestinians are the sewage runoff of the Arab world. Other Arabs have kick their backward mind set the heck out of their sand boxes, when the Isralies build settlements, even with modern plumbing and running water Palestinians still defect in the corners of rooms and are as backwards as a bunch of monkeys. Read some national Geographic stories on how crude and stinky the terrorist grease ball Arofat was. The difference between palestinians and Iseralaes are night and day, alleys in towns are dumps and bathrooms, the Palestinians worse than hogs, pigs usually only use one conrer of their pen as a bathroom. All Arabs are numskulls who are fed a ideolgy of the moon god called Allah, created by Mohamid. Who was a pedophile goat ranger, That was a nutjob like James Jones, only with a following of thugs with barbaric cruel leanings, taught by mohamed himself . If you read something besides Marval comic books. When muslim ideology got a strangle hold on Arabs. As they progressing along as muslims, they went down hill and regressed to stane age living and thinking. Kind of like the progressive liberal democrps are doing to the USA. So Eric are you a camel jockey or just a socialist democrat idiot, or a marxist parrot? Helen was a socialist democrat and said it several times, a real leftist nagging hag,who never meet a marxist democrat she didn’t like. Yes, Helen Thomas was part of the socialist establishment press and finally showed herself as a racist. Her dislike of George Quincy Bush and Dick Winchester Cheney could be acceptable if it was for the right reasons. But of course, it was for the wrong reasons. Her dislike of Israel could also have some validity if it was because Israel is basically a socialist country (as are almost all others) that violates individual rights of even Isreali citizens (mandatory military service, etc.), but again, it is clearly for racist reasons. So, good riddance to Helen Thomas. Now if only the rest of her bigotted elitist colleagues would follow!

Good of you to wake up. Unfortunately while you were sleeping this was going on in govt for the last 40 years at least and it has only gotten worse. Passing the law that allows corporations to have free speech and thus spend a smuch as they can to influence any campaign as if they were a person is the final blow as far as I am concerned. Your vote does not count anymore.

  • Jsck Kinch(1uncle)

I do not understand how so many somewhat talented people here could be so anti-American. I’ve blamed it on a lack of common sense. Because of people like her, we have reached the point where our country is being controlled by groups of sickie wackos like queers. Everyone has an opinion but majority must rule, smaller government, traditional values, individual responsibility and strong defense w/o butting into things where we have no interest.

  • patrick

she is so ugly i think we should tell those black panther dudes about her, you know the dudes that were threatening voters to vote for obammy or they would hurt em, yea those guys need this woman! after they use her up, then, since she believes in freedom for terrorists, she should suffer the punishment that the muslims do to their women, bury her in the sand up to her waist and stone her til she is dead. RIP Ms. Helen

  • 1 Son of Liberty

If they put up a statue of her it wont last long. I live near Dearborn and the people who live there are sick of this crap. That Hag should be jailed. Talk about being a racist. If Truman hadn’t been such a [word removed] and fired MacArthur we would be occupying the Middle East as we should. Any people who think personal hygiene and indoor plumbing are the work of the devil should be controlled. We need to educate the backwards simpletons that want to take back land that wasn’t theirs to begin with. It’s only a matter of time till we get someone with some balls in the White House and a bushel of wheat exported from this country will be the same price as a barrel of oil. This is America, and God bless America. We saved their asses in WWII. If it hadn’t been for American troops and to a lesser extent Canadian and Australian troops they would be speaking German the only official language they would have in the Middle East and Poland also. I guess they wouldn’t have a problem with Israel then because they would be slave labor to the German rulers. If Hitler deemed anyone of Middle East decent worthy of being kept alive. So you should thank us that they are free or even a race today. Free to bomb, rape and pillage. And another point we are a Republic as another post stated we are not a have never been a democracy. This is a Media ploy that they believe if it’s stated enough people will think it’s true. But the truth is “and to the Republic” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Democracies always end in ruin and are followed by a ruling family or sect. Hezbollah has declared war(jihad) on us anyone found to be a supporter of them should be jailed. why is she free? God Bless America and her troops wherever they may be and bring them back to our soil safely.

    • eddie47d

“We should be occupying the Middle East” Not!!

      • Jerry D

I’d have to agree with you, Eddie. I’m a conservative who believes we need to bring all of our troops home. Might be a good idea to put a good many of them on our southern border, though.

There is no such thing as a “palestinian” in the sense used by most. There are Arab who happen to currently reside in the geographic region, rather loosely called palestine. There was never any tribe, ethnic group, or genetically related group named palestinians. They are a motley group of various, subsistence farming and nomadic Arab tribes, originally brought together by British occupation. The term palestinian developed a little before WW1. Prior to that they may have been considered Syrian. Genetic studies suggest that they are very closely related to the jewish people in the same region. Everyone from the entire middle-eastern area is vaguely related, the concept of palestinian arab is very new, and obviously a political, not historical, construct.

Only the politically and historically ignorant, or those w an obvious bias could suggest that the non-jewish occupants of palestine have any special right to control of this region, or self governance

  • Eric Bischoff

Wow such hate, venom and ignorance. There are a lot of ugly, mean spirited, ignorant people on this website. How did you all get this way? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Your comment is filled with much more manipulative name-calling, ridicule, and condescension than that displayed by most of the other commentors on this board. What a hypocrite.

‘Palestine’ is a version of ‘Philistine’ who were a sea people, probably from Lebanon, and has it’s name rooted in an ancient Greek tongue. Who knows who the ‘real’ Palestinians were…these ‘sea people’ invaded Egypt during the reign of one of the Ramesses (sic?). If every ethnic group went back to their land of origin, we’d all be living in Eden and the world would be 98% unoccupied…a little crowded, don’t you think? The point being, that migration, invasion, and the search for a better life has changed the boundaries of countless nation-states throughout history…and we haven’t seen seen the end of it…superior technology, culture, education and law will always supplant the inferior…we are witnessing that now in the Middle-East, Korea, etc….Helen Thomas, Rush Limbaugh, Dan Rather (and all of us e-mailers) are but passing commentators on the march of history…none of us is exclusively right, but we do have vested interests in what happens in our lifetimes…I believe in American sovereignty, secure borders, I support Israel in it’s struggles, I believe that Islam is a threat to world peace, and I think that the “main-stream-media” in the USA is biased towards socialism. So sue me…I am a 70 year old former Marine helicopter pilot who fought in Viet-Nam and killed people who, at the time, I believed were a threat to me and my country…sue me twice…God bless us all in our good intentions but imperfect vision.

    • Bob

Those of us from the Vietnam era were also brainwashed by the gov’t media. We rushed off to join the military to protect our country from a bunch of mean rice farmers. But as we get older and hear this war propaganda over and over we realize we were duped. Now the younger ones will have to learn the same way.

      • http://?? Joe H.

I was there and I didn’t go there to protect our country from a bunch of “mean rice farmers”! I went there to try to help stop the spread of communism. everybody laughed at that but what happened after we left? all the people that were there that believed in freedom were sent to re-education camps, those that the commies thought could be re-educated. I lost track of about seven good vietnamese people that were probably killed. they were very good and special people.
then right after that, the kehmer rouge killed about a million people! people that were scholors, teachers, priests, writers, all runs of lives! i still believe in what I went there for and always will. Naieve? maybe. Proud of the heretage of my country? Without a doubt!!!

        • Eric Bischoff

Well obviously you still haven’t learned anything.

      Well said, Just Plain Bill!

Eric, thank God there is only so many ignorant, simple minded morons of the marxist muslim loving kind don’t reproduce except in a pertre dish. As for venom and ignorance, liberial democrats degrade the nation and anyone who disagree with your socialist types. I not ashamed of anyones going on the offensive towards all socialist democrats. The trouble is democrats lie, cheat, don’t pay their fair share of taxes, cut deals behind closed doors, don’t enforce lawson themselves or their friends, but harrang and hassle Republicaian and the tea party. You democrats are the sorry jackasses!

    • Eric Bischoff

i41 Wrong again. You guys either can’t read or you can’t understand what you are reading. You make all of these assumptions. I am neither a Democrat or a Republican. I think the 2 party system is a joke that does not serve us and needs to go. I think our electoral college system is also a joke. I think that it’s high times we get Instant run-off voting so that we all feel represented instead of constantly divided. I pay lots of taxes and unlike most of you I am willing to pay more because I believe that nothing is free. The military, our infrastructure, government it all costs a bundle. I happen to be one who believes that we could get a lot more for our buck if we changed our ways and our priorities. The system has succeeded in keeping half the country pitted against the other half. Meanwhile while we are all busy arguing they are picking our pockets. I got news for you the Tea Party could be a good thing and it could make changes if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s roots are purely born out of hatred for a black man winning the election. You guys were all OK with the Bush family stealing elections, starting wars over oil. You slept right through that. You didn’t have a problem with the Patriot act either even though that was the most destructive act against out country and constitution. But woah when the black guy got elected and even though he is running the same plays and keeping the same game going, now you are up in arms. A bit hypocritical don’t you think?

      • Ben Crystal

        Your comments:

“..the Tea Party could be a good thing and it could make changes if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s roots are purely born out of hatred for a black man winning the election. You guys were all OK with the Bush family stealing elections, starting wars over oil…But woah when the black guy got elected and even though he is running the same plays and keeping the same game going, now you are up in arms..”
        - are specious at best.

Your premise is based on invective and highly tenuous opinion. I (and the good people of The Bob Livingston Letter and Personal Liberty Digest) celebrate and defend your right to hold said opinions; but you assume that which either has yet to be proven, or never will be (tea party = racist, wars for oil, stolen elections)in the course of your argument, invalidating the premise on its face.

Fight on, and kudos to you for your passion, but don’t make the mistake of “arguing facts not in evidence” with this crowd.

        • JeffH

Ben, well said and thank you. Saul Alinsky would be proud of Eric for that premise. I guess if it, trashing the Tea Party movement, is repeated enough some will believe it…straight out of Alinsky’s “Rules for radicals”. To think they, the liberal left, has the nerve to continually accuse anyone that doesn’t agree with them as only listening to FOX, Rush or Glen Beck, when they themselves have swallowed the lame stream media’s fodder, hook line and sinker and then declare themselves as “independent” thinkers.
My, my how this twisted world turns.

          • eddie47d

Jeffy; You are one of the head corkscrews! ….Now don’t get all bent out of shape because I got you first. I know how you get your panties in a bunch. Have a good evening.

        • http://?? Joe H.

          Eric the red,
If what you say about the TEA party is so, then how do you explain the high number of BLACKS in the TEA party????

        • Eric Bischoff

Truth hurts doesn’t it. I am obviously pushing some buttons and I am happy about that. People’s buttons need to be pushed, they need to look at themselves and their beliefs and they need to read and research all available media not just the flavor that suits them. No one learns anything by preaching only to their choir. That’s why I hang out in all types of political sites. That’s why I read Mother Jones, The Nation, Newsmax and the Wall St Journal amongst many others. My wife says if I get another publication I may never leave my house. I am not just looking to piss people off, I am actually looking for good ideas any where I can find them, hoping to find common ground or viewpoints I hadn’t thought of.

Sometimes I just can’t help myself. I read some stupidity and I have to challenge it. I have no patience for racism, sexism, Fascism or any of the ‘isms that are keeping us from becoming a great society. One where we have learned to get along regardless of our differences. A lot of people in this crowd are accusatory of the very things they themselves do. They are short on facts and evidence. They never answer the questions, they just go back to their attack stuck in their myopic viewpoints. And I am sorry if that upsets you but a lot of you seem to be regurgitating verbatim what you heard on Fox and you don’t seem to have any other facts to back it up. Have yoy no viewpoint of your own?

Help me correct my so called invective and tenuous opinions Ben. I am curious as to how many people that are now part of the Tea Party were once Republicans versus Democrats versus Progressive independents? Tell me if I am wrong but by following what you are saying, I get that most of you are conservatives and that not only do you want to go back to the Reagan Bush era you also don’t want to pay taxes and you don’t want the rich to pay their fair share because that will slow down the economy. And you want less government but what that really means is less regulation and only the parts of government you like can stay, like a bloated military industrial complex. Afterall who needs rules, God knows we can trust corporations not to steal, bribe, pollute or lie!

I am sorry but trickle down economics has been tried and has failed many times. My mental picture of Trickle down is of bankers and the ruling class standing on their balconies peeing on the poor and the middle class and that is exactly how it has played out. For the life of me I can’t understand why the majority of the people vote for a system that has increasingly destroyed the middle class and obscenely widened the gap between rich and poor.

What has the revolution accomplished but trade monarchy for CEOs? It now takes a 2 person household to try to ineffectively maintain the same lifestyle we had in the 50s and 60s with one person working and the other raising the kids. The workforce productivity has gone up many fold and yet salaries have remained flat not keeping up with inflation. Workers had a pension to look forward to after a life of service now they have a 401K and we all know how well that’s turning out. Who benefited from that? Not the workers, only the corporations. And now they are trying to find a way to screw us even worse than with the 401K. They are salivating at getting their hands on our social security coffers and you wiill probably let them. God knows Wall St can be trusted with that money.

That makes no sense to me. The economy is just short of a major collapse. I could see that coming 30 years ago and still things kept right on heading for the cliff. Our society is more divided than ever. Some keep professing that we are the richest nation but we are actually Broke/Bankrupt. We have become a fat, unhealthy, uneducated, unemployed nation that wages wars non stop.

We can claim to be the best all we want but it might behoove us to get a little humility. Cubans are healthier and 98% literate on a minuscule budget. Maybe we could learn from them. The French as much as we like to make fun of them have a great healthcare system and some amazingly fast and comfortable trains. They certainly seem to enjoy life with more time off and still they are more productive than we are. Couldn’t we learn something there either? The Germans are kicking our butt on Solar, have you ever been to Germany? Who would have thought! I could go on but hopefully you get the point.

So before you all get hung up on France and Cuba, and yes I picked those two because they do seem to enlist fun making in Americans, maybe we should try to pick and choose any and all of the best models regardless of where they emanate and emulate them quickly. It seems to me that we are in deep shit and there is no time to waste. We can borrow and model and save a lot of time and resources. Just copy what already works. It doesn’t matter that we didn’t think of it first.

It’s interesting to me that the Tea Party movement would select the Boston Tea Party as the root of the name. There seems to be some confusion here. This was not a revolt against paying taxes like we have now, it was a revolt against the British Empire giving monopoly to a corporation, the British East India Company and also trying to impose colonial taxes thus giving The East India Co an unfair advantage. The revolt was on monopolies. So it seems to me that the Tea Party activists are confused. I find that as upsetting as when Glenn Beck uses Martin Luther King ‘s words for a completely different purpose or when the Bush administration corrupted language like Clear Skies Initiative to give more leeway to the coal industry to pollute or no child left behind that ends up cutting funding for education and leaving a lot of children behind. Are we completely duped and happy about it?

If I am wrong in my thinking then please correct me with some facts instead of just insults because yes I am different than you are and I think differently and I have my own vision of how this world could be.

So to get back to Helen, you may not like her looks, her ancestry, her race or the fact that she is a woman, but the reality is she was smart and she had more courage than the rest of the white house press corps put together. Or are we too dumb to realize that in the long run if she is the only one speaking truth to power then she was the only one on our side. She was the only one doing her job everyone else is just keeping the seats warm.

      • Jerry D

I, for one, have absolutely no problem with the color of Obama’s skin. By the way, he’s also half Euro-American. My problems with Obama would be just as serious if he was lilly white with blue eyes and blonde hair. He’s taking us down the socialist path and the color of his skin has nothing to do with it. Your problem is that you know it, agree with him, and short of a true argument, you chose to race bait.

        • Eric Bischoff

Please describe what you mean by the Socialist path and exactly what you think is wrong with it. Inquiring minds want to know.

The way I see it, when our money is given freely to bailout bankers and corporations and we are left to suffer when unemployment runs out and the banks want to take our houses and kick us out due to some illness and not having health insurance I don’t call that Socialism I think it’s a lot closer to Fascism.

I also think that Socialist, socialism is another one of these words like liberal that has been completely corrupted and misunderstood. I think that we have been brainwashed to be afraid of any other political system to the point that we can’t even have a serious discussion about any of it. Many other western democracies have socialist, communist, green parties. Why do we have to be stuck with the 2 headed monster RepublicRats parties?

In case anyone hasn’t noticed the Chinese are still communist and they are kicking our ass on many fronts. Oh I can just hear the replies. OK Eric if you like them so much why don’t you go live with the commies you pinko.

No thanks I am merely pointing out that we may not have all of the answers. And we shouldn’t be so afraid to even utter the words. What are you all so afraid of? So back to Socialism. I believe the roots of it are about people and community.

I happen to know about a company called Mondragon that is a hybrid model of corporations. They have capital, loans and investors but with a few twist. All of the corporations are employee owned. All workers have a vote and a say so over their livelihood and their future. So here you have a corporation that was started as a school for 12 kids in Spain in the early 50′s that has now become a multinational corporation that employs 90,000 employees in multiple countries doing manufacturing and research. They have their own bank, their own health clinics, their own university. They flip the capitalistic model on its head in a few places besides worker owned, instead of growing larger by Mergers & Acquisitions, which always end up with massive layoffs and unemployment, whenever one of their corporation starts to get too big they split it up so that the companies remain small manageable and responsible to their community. They call them Cooperative Corporations. They are not restricted to only work with their own cooperatives only encouraged to do so. It is in their best interest. What a concept. People first then profits. Don’t any of you want that? I would.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the same movement is rising out of the ashes of bankrupt corporations in Argentina. The owners and banks had walked away firing everyone devastating communities. Workers are reopening boarded up factories and making a go of it in the Mondragon model and succeeding.

We just maybe faced with the same situation here as things get worse. This model would certainly be a way to save Detroit. So don’t be so afraid of a little socialism. Are our systems so weak that can’t withstand even a discussion about other systems?

Personally I don’t believe that we are done with making a perfect Union. We have a lot of work left to do and it is not all about going backwards. Backwards is not all it’s cracked up to be either. We can pick and choose and we can create new better improved models. But that tales an open mind. Oops that’s a liberal.

What I find disappointing in conservatives is that the very thing they should be championing and that I would embrace, Fiscal Conservatism, they have managed to blow completely.

  • Just Plain Bill

Eric…where do you get your “facts” about the tea-party…my wife and I are Tea-Partiers, as are many of our friends…none of us is rascist nor do we dislike President Obama because of his race(s)…he is a socialist and that is what we declaim…you’re beginning to sound hysterical in your emails, lashing out at people and using terms like “you guys”, and sounding as if only Eric has the ‘real’ truth. Bush did not steal an election…13 out of 14 post 2000 election investigations conducted by newspapers, universities, electronic media and others all agree that George Bush defeated Al Gore by several hundred votes in a recount of all Florida counties…the one exception was a study that used the most “liberal” method of discerning if a chad had been ‘touched”…you need to take a deep breath and re-examine your motives as well as historical fact…instead of making all-encompassing assertions about people and opinions that you disagree with, try to ascertain what is true and what is not…I can see you are emotionally charged against anyone and anything that doesn’t comport with your pre-conceived (maybe ill-conceived) notions of the “opposition”…chill…God bless, and… Semper Fi! p.s. I don’t have anything against the Patriot Act whether it’s under Bush and a Democratic Congress, or Obama and a democratic Congress…in fact, it is one of the few things I like about my mixed-race President…as far as African Americans in high political office, how about Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of State Colin Powell, or Journalists like Thomas Sowell…how am I a racist…I believe that YOU see too many things through a spectrum of color…

Just Plain Bill, my experience is more of the same…

Bischoff started in wrestling working for American Wrestling Association owner Verne Gagne and would eventually become an on-air interviewer and host until the AWA folded in 1991. Bischoff at first worked on the AWA’s syndicated programming, or sales in other words. Bischoff became an on-air personality virtually by accident and practically, at the last minute. Larry Nelson, whom at the time was employed by the AWA as an announcer, was arrested under suspicion of a DUI.[2] Because of Nelson’s sudden unavailability, Verne Gagne and his son, Greg opted to recruit Bischoff (who initially, had no desire to be in front of the camera) to fill-in on the interviews. Bischoff believed that the Gagnes thought that he would be a good replacement due to his immediate availability in the television studio, and the fact that he was already wearing a suit and tie. Eric eventually went on to join WCW and assist in the termination of Greg Gagne.
Before getting into professional wrestling, Bischoff had a number of occupations. He owned a successful landscape construction company, worked as a veterinary assistant, and ran a butcher shop, where he sold meat via van delivery. Hulk Hogan would famously refer to this time in his life during a promo at the end of the 1996 WCW pay-per-view event Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Florida, saying, “If it wasn’t for Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff would still be selling meat from a truck in Minneapolis. “[21]

I know a lot of liberals love her but I have disliked her since I saw and heard her the first time. All she was doing was trying to dredge up dirt rather than report facts. Now that may have been her job the last ten years but it certainly wasn’t when I heard her the first time. And she is the UGLIEST woman I believe I’ve ever had the misfortune to see.

  • L8T_Nighter

All this bashing banter, bash, bash, bash! Forget right and left for just a moment and ask yourself one simple question.

If another way, another belief, another government, is SO much better, then why leave it to come here to the US? If you believe so strongly in your position why would you not stay there and fight for it where you have the capacity for direct results?

I believe that what made our Nation the most prosperous and ultimately one of the largest super powers in a mere several hundred years over Governments, Countries and beliefs established over thousands of years, is the thing that they attack. One piece at a time, they infiltrate, modify, and eliminate the very fabric of our strength. One step at a time, they walk across our borders, take advantage of our freedoms, exploit the media to create propaganda that taints the opinions of those not old enough to know histories lessons, and make our laws in the image of those they left to come here. They trample across our Constitution and use it to subvert the meaning and our freedoms.

My ancestors came here legally and lived here when there were no roads, no infrastructure, no States and they poured their blood and sweat into the land to make a prosperous future for their decendants. It is what people like Helen Thomas destroy, that made us and keeps us great! Truth, Justice and the AMERICAN way! If you want Mecca, face that way and keep walking. If you want Socialism, there are plenty of places where you can go that have it. If you think like a tribal being, then you do not belong where tribes do not exist! If you believe in the Constitution take heed, it is being carved away slice by slice like last years turkey.

Once the wealth of our nation has gone to the interest collectors in other nations, we, will be as immaterial to the rest of the world as the nations from which these propaganda spreaders come. America, the former land of the free, and home of the gullable, does not sound good to me.

Does no one see the irony or this person being in charge of the press core when her views are obviously not within and never have been those of a patriot?

When the Press becomes more opinion than fact, it is no longer news, it is PROPAGANDA. WE, THE PEOPLE, has become, WE, THOSE PEOPLE in our own Nation. I cannot see any attack on what the call the Tea Party, as anything but an attack on the very result of the action it is named after which resulted in the greatest document written in thousands of years. One side attacks with the undefendable position of “they are racist” while leaders of the party they are in are under investigation for morals breaches. The other, attacks on the grounds of fanaticism while they have similar issues within of leaderships character.

I am not swayed in my belief by those who come here posting attacks on the purpose of this site! Liberty, by it’s very definition allows you to do so. I stand by your right to do so, even if you are so stupid as to believe your own rhetoric. As for me, I choose the Constitution my fore-fathers wrote over your ill informed drivel.

When we were promised “CHANGE” I was not expecting it to be the following definition; coins: coins collectively, especially coins of a small denomination.

I, for one, will vote for anyone who is willing to fix this issue and uphold the Constitution as it was even if they are in the Coffee Party.

    • Eric Bischoff

I wager to say that if anyone was given a new continent with untapped resources of the kinds that this continent has and free and cheap slave labor and foreign immigrant labor then if they didn’t create wealth and succeed they’d have to be total idiots. Let’s not be so naive that we think we are so great. You are right about one thing, we have squandered it all away. I happen to think that we are almost right back where we started, unfortunately there aren’t any more continents to be taken so now we are going to have to be smarter, Kinder, gentler, more cooperative.

  • Just Plain Bill

In reply to Bob re being ‘duped’ by the government media (whatever that is) to volunteer to fight in Vietnam…I was a professional Marine since 1957 and I believed, as did many of us, that the encroachment of a Communist nation (North Vietnam) allied with Russia and China into southeast Asia threatened the security of our allies in the region. The sea lanes to Japan, Australia and Taiwan would have been controlled by the Communist bloc, and that had to be forestalled. I am not now, nor have I ever been a dupe. It’s interesting to note that post-Vietnam, North Vietnam and China had a ‘dust-up’ over their borders that lasted for several months. Go figure. God bless, and…Semper Fi!

Helen Thomas should have retired years ago, maybe she could have left with some dignity. She should have known better. She overstayed her welcome.

Why do you all seem to think Israel can do no wrong, and that only “liberals” criticize lil ol Israel? Here is a great conservative patriot, Paul Craig Roberts, who was associate editor of the Wall Street Journal and had served as Assistant Sec’y of the Treasury during President Reagan’s first term (was credited as a co-founder of Reaganomics)… by the way, try to look up all of Paul Craig Roberts’ articles; the man is brilliant — he truly sees beyond the left/right paradigm many of you seem stuck in … after reading his pieces, you will see how manipulated the American public truly is. Here is his “Helen Thomas: In Appreciation”

  • http://none John StC

You “will not tolerate racism”? What about the obvious racism of the Jewish-Supremacist author? This “person” isn’t worthy to shine Helen Thomas’ shoes. And yes, I fully subscribe to her expressed beliefs. There will be NO peace in the Middle East until Israel is no more. Israel is a counterfeit ‘nation’ founded upon racism (Jewish supremacy) and placed upon land stolen from the rightful owners, i.e., the indigenous Palestinians. As Helen said, the so-called ‘Israelis’ should go back ‘home’, i.e., to Poland, Germany or whereevr they really originally came from.

    • Jerry D

And just which mosque do you attend, John?

  • Diane

I had replied earlier this evening; the link I provided to the Paul Craig Roberts’ [who was associate editor of the Wall Street Journal and had served as Assistant Sec’y of the Treasury during President Reagan’s first term (was credited as a co-founder of Reaganomics)] article, “Helen Thomas: In Appreciation,” might not work for you — if not, try this:

  • Bill P

As difficult as her liberalism may be to stomach, Helen Thomas is right about Israel.
Now, before you dismiss me as just another “anti-Semite,” you must look at the problem from a historical perspective. Back in the early 20th century, What is now known as Israel was called Palestine, and was a British “protectorate.” That is to say – occupied by the British Empire for reasons hard to fathom. The majority of the folks living there were Semitic Arabs, with a few Semitic Jews and even fewer Christians. Then came the Balfour Declaration – a Zionist inspired, so-called solution to the “problem” of Jews which were not wanted in European countries. One must also realize that these European Jews were not Semitic, rather they were Khazars, or Aschkenadze Jews, originating in central Asia. These folk had been running from “persecution” ever since they chose the Jewish faith and came west, out of their native Khazaria. There were, among these folk a small, aggressive, core, who always found their way into influential positions in politics and finance, usually creating undesirable circumstances, thus causing their peoples to be not wanted. A perfect, recent, example is the situation in the Weimar Republic, where Jewish Communists made a nearly successful take-over of the German government. They did, briefly succeed in Bavaria; the result being the beginning of Hitler’s popularity. The intellectual solution was a “Jewish Homeland,” as proposed by Lord Balfour. So don’t criticize Helen for this one item. She is right. They are an occupying force in a land to which they have no real right.

God gave it to them over 3000 years ago. They went into captivity because of their sins against Him. Scripture prophesied their return to the Promised Land and there they are. It appears you and God, the True God, have a fundamental difference of opinion.

  • Just Plain Bill

It’s not hard to fathom why Great Britain occupied Palestine and other parts of the middle-east in 1947, they had just defeated the Ottoman Empire, a Muslim super-state which had ruled from Turkey to what has become Jordan for hundreds of years. As is always the case, the victor in a war that was initiated by the loser can claim the loser’s lands and dispense with them as they see fit (see the 1967 Five Day War and the West Bank). Britain and France made the political map that is roughly what we have today. Nobody is happy but the fault is human nature and the lust for possessions. It is neither a Jewish nor Arab thing. It is what it is.

      Good facts, what is, is.

    • Eric Bischoff

And don’t forget that the Victors also write history and in almost every case their version turns to have been, oh what a surprise, one sided and not exactly the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

  • Just Plain Bill

I suggest reading one or more of Victor Davis Hanson’s books, and visiting his website at…he is a brilliant military historian, vineyard farmer, adviser to Presidents and much more. Victor Davis Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow in Residence in Classics and Military History at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, a professor of Classics Emeritus at California State University, Fresno, and a nationally syndicated columnist for Tribune Media Services. He is also the Wayne & Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History, Hillsdale College, where he teaches each fall semester courses in military history and classical culture.

He was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2007 and the Bradley Prize in 2008.

Hanson, who was the fifth successive generation to live in the same house on his family’s farm, was a full-time orchard and vineyard grower from 1980-1984, before joining the nearby CSU Fresno campus in 1984 to initiate a classical languages program. He divides his time between his forty-acre tree and vine farm near Selma, California, where he was born in 1953, and the Stanford campus.

He’s a conservative Democrat and although he has much disagreement with the current administration, he is very evenhanded in his criticisms of both left and right of the political spectrum. I hope some of you take the opportunity to acquaint yourselves with this uniquely gifted scholar and man. God bless, and…Semper Fi1

Helen Thomas made the mistake of ticking off the wrong people. These are the same people who have been screwing up America from within for decades now. Hell, look at Hollywood and AIPAC.

My guess is that Ben Crystol is just like Bill Krystol — a NEOCON ISRAEL-FIRSTER. These traitors only care about their own race.

Real America is rapidly figuring out the deal.

    • Jerry D

And just who are the “true Americans,” Philip?

  • Richard

Bill Kristol is a smart guy who is interesting. He is a Conservative but I haven’t detected any unusual bias towards Israel although I personally have the utmost respect for Israel.

    • Eric Bischoff

Why do you make such a blanket statement like I have the utmost respect for Israel. What is it that you respect? I would love to some day be able to say that, but not right now not the way they behave.

They are an oppressor. They have created a new form of racism. Their laws for who can be an Israeli citizen are totally discriminatory. They obviously insure that foreign jews can come from other countries and have more rights that the arab families who have been on that land going back hundreds of years. They live outside of International laws. They have ignored countless UN resolutions. They don’t acknowledge having 100s of nuclear weapons and yet they think they should have the right to preemptively attack Iran for wanting to have their own. They have attacked many governments they disagree with. They can’t seem to find a way to get along with their neighbors and we the Americans with our billions in tax dollars US Aid give them the strength to act like bullies.

I could think of better things to do with our money. An I could think of many other things I respect. They are not on that list yet.

Here’s a great Lew Rockwell posting on the neocon Kristol family:

  • Just Plain Bill

Diane, as you suggested I read the posting by Lew Rockwell and found no useful information, just a short, hate-filled diatribe against Republicans, the Kristol family, and conservatism. Whassup?

  • Eric Bischoff

Most everything quoted here is either military related, bible related or a Fox contributor. Do you people read anything else ever? Has anyone bothered to read the brilliant Jewish American author Noam Chomsky? He has a Libertarian streak and should be right up your alley. linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, and political activist. He is an Institute Professor and professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chomsky is well known in the academic and scientific community as one of the fathers of modern linguistics. Since the 1960s, he has become known more widely as a political dissident and an anarchist. You really can’t understand the hypocritical, twisted ways of our foreign policies unless you’ve at least read a few of his hundreds of books.

  • Diane

I just tried posting TWICE, and my posting does not show … hmmmm … guess I’ll try again later.

  • Diane

Well, the above posting showed … maybe I’ll try sending my posting in installments (maybe it was too big)…

  • Diane

Eric Bischoff, I do like a lot of what Noam Chomsky writes. Here is an article that pretty much sums up what I DON’T like about him, though. You know that to understand and appreciate people like Noam Chomsky requires nuanced thinking, which is not encouraged (is actually condemned) in America:

  • Diane

Hmmmm … two of my postings (I split some into two) had been showing that they were being reviewed … that was hours ago … I wonder how long it takes before they show up.

  • Diane

Maybe my comments were too lengthy … and that is why they are “awaiting moderation.” I’ll chop them up and re-send.

  • Diane

PART ONE of response to Just Plain Bill:

Just Plain Bill, just what is a conservative? First off, I’m going to recommend the excellent website of “The American Conservative:” “The American Conservative” is more “paleo,” or “Old Right,” rather than “neoconservative,” or “New Right.”

(By the way, Lew Rockwell does not feel animosity toward conservatives; rather, he feels animosity toward the “neoconservatives” who have hijacked both the conservative movement and the Republican Party. Lew Rockwell is about as “Old Right” as you can get.)

This article, “What’s Left of the Old Right?” by Anthony Gregory, explains how the “New Right” (neocons like the Kristol’s) have infiltrated the conservative movement. For example, it states, “Conservatism today is not too ideological or insufficiently traditional. Rather, it is ideologically devoted to the wrong traditions. It sees the U.S. empire, the police state, the Republican Party, and other right-wing symbols as proxies for freedom, as institutions worth more than liberty. It has adopted coercive nationalism and utilitarian collectivism and cast away the traditions of constitutionalism, freedom, and natural law on which bourgeois values depend.”

  • Diane

OK … I tried re-sending my very first part, and I got the “awaiting moderation” message. Maybe the system does not like the link I had provided … so I’ll try re-sending my message WITHOUT any links:

Entire response (parts one and two, without links) to Just Plain Bill:

Just Plain Bill, just what is a conservative? First off, I’m going to recommend the excellent website of “The American Conservative.” (Try to look it up online … I don’t think the comment screen will accept my link to it.) “The American Conservative” is more “paleo,” or “Old Right,” rather than “neoconservative,” or “New Right.”

(By the way, Lew Rockwell does not feel animosity toward conservatives; rather, he feels animosity toward the “neoconservatives” who have hijacked both the conservative movement and the Republican Party. Lew Rockwell is about as “Old Right” as you can get.)

The article, “What’s Left of the Old Right?” by Anthony Gregory (try looking it up online), explains how the “New Right” (neocons like the Kristol’s) have infiltrated the conservative movement.

More interesting thoughts on the paleo/neo dilemma are described in the article “Hawks for Peace,” by W. James Antle III (try looking it up online): “The grassroots Right has turned against the neoconservative project of perpetual war and nation-building — without becoming non-interventionist. Can antiwar conservatives now find common cause with the ‘to hell with them hawks’”?

Back in the 90’s the great Murray Rothbard chimed in on the Kristol’s in his article, “King Kristol” (try to look up online). Mr. Rothbard also exposed Newt Gingrich as a “neoconservative (Social Democrat, wacko techno-futurist division), in the guise of a fiery revolutionary quasi-libertarian.”

More exposure of the Kristol’s is related in the Sam Francis article, “Kristol Confesses: Neoconservatism is Not Conservative” (try to look up online).

Eric Peters’ article, “Paul Craig Roberts And The Decline And Fall Of The Washington Times” (try to look it up online) describes neocon perfidy at this once great publication.

Many believe, as I do, that the neocons are the “right” side of the false “right/left” choices The Powers That Be offer up to Americans at election time. These false choices are not limited to the U.S. The U.K., Canada, Australia, etc., also employ this system. As Bill Clinton mentor and Council on Foreign Relations insider, Carroll Quigley, exposed in his blockbuster book, TRAGEDY AND HOPE, “The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can throw the rascals out at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.”

If you believe the Republicans and the Democrats are that different from each other at the upper levels of politics, think about how the chairman of the Federal Reserve never gets changed (even though a new regime takes over), or how President Obama (despite promising he would end the war “immediately”) not only keeps Robert Gates on as Secretary of Defense, he actually expands the Bush policies!

As George Carlin states in this fantastic YouTube video, “Who Really Controls America (try to look it up online):” “Forget the politicians; they’re irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t:”

Americans need to stop listening to the likes of Sean Hannity (purveyor of the false right) and Chris Matthews (purveyor of the false left), or America will be no more.

  • Just Plain Bill

My guess is that Diane, Eric and many of the e mailers in this string do read outside of their value center. I’ve read Chomsky and others, seen Carlin, listen to Rush, have recently finished reading 13 books on on the middle east including the ‘Life of Muhammad” by Ibn Ishaq who collected his information within 100 years of the death of Muhammad. I sense that most of us are well read, curious and open to ideas, although it is also apparent that we each have biases of our own. Anyway, a note to Eric, please don’t assume that you are a ‘scholar’ amongst cretins. We all have something useful to say.

  • Aura Doro

Whoa! Thanks a lot! I always wanted to write in my site an item like this. Can I take part of the post for my blog?
