The Enthusiasm Gap

October 12, 2012 by

How many of these voters will stay home? Here’s a worrisome fact for Barack Obama supporters: There’s a tremendous decline in voters who express “high interest” in the election. The drops are the greatest in Hispanics and young voters (ages 18 to 34) — two groups that overwhelmingly supported Obama in 2008. Meanwhile, one group whose “high interest” numbers have risen is Christian evangelicals — a segment that is expected to vote heavily for the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan ticket.

Wall Street switches sides. A new study from the Center for Responsive Politics shows an amazing shift in support by employees of major banks in this year’s Presidential election. Contributions to Barack Obama from people at Goldman Sachs are down 85 percent compared to 2008. Gifts from staff at Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase are way down, too. Meanwhile, a lot of questions are being raised about donations from foreign sources, one area where Obama contributions have soared. Some critics charge the donations are very suspicious (and unverifiable).

Yet another Biden gaffe. I had to finish this column before last night’s Vice Presidential debate, so I don’t know if Joe Biden committed another of the gaffes for which he has become notorious. But he sure pulled a beauty last week, when he said “yes, we do,” in response to Republican charges that he and Obama want to raise taxes by $1 trillion (but only on the “super-rich,” of course). Biden insisted: “That’s not a tax raise. That’s called fairness where I come from.”

Christian evangelicals = the rich ticket.

Curious you should say that. I am Christian Evangelical and far from rich. I struggle every day to make enough to pay the bills for family, keep our home and put food on the table. We don’t pay for tv. We don’t have cable or even sattelite. We don’t even have high speed Internet. My kids don’t have cell phones and if they want a car they get a job to pay for it. Same with going to college.
I have no health insurance because new regulation has caused premiums to skyrocket beyond what my family can afford. However I guess forcing me to buy it or pay more taxes will solve that problem for me. Just ask our current President. You know…the guy who cost this country more than 1/2 billion dollars just this year alone flying around on Air Force 1. Yes…this guy is for the average American. That’s why there are 10 million more average Americans on assistance than when he took office and 5% more uninsured.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Don’t forget all the money Michelle has wasted on her vacations, taking her daughters and friends and passing them off as employees on paper to justify the expense. I read somewhere 53 vacation days this year. Valerie Jarrett had a full complement of secret service men while on her vacation while Ambassador Stevens requested more security and his request was denied. I didn’t vote for BO 4 years ago and I’ll be voting against him again!. He hasn’t told the truth since he got into politics. I’m not willing to risk giving him 4 more years to totally wreck this country.

You better bet my husband and I will be at the Polls as soon as they open. I am advising all my neighbors, church friends, etc., if they do nothing else in their life, VOTE THIS YEAR!

    • OLD MAN

YOU ARE OH SO RIGHT……Ever hear these? “Political ambivalence WILL eventually come back to haunt you.” “What you allow, is what will continue.” PLATO SAID…..
“One of the penalties of not participating in politics is that you will be governed by your inferiors.”
If you are one of those who are unsure and don’t want to vote for Romney. PONDER THIS ONE… IF you FAIL TO VOTE for the lesser evil you *ARE* voting for the Greater Evil!

Where are all the misguided students and blacks who were singing kumbaya with Obama last election?
I do believe a lot of those college students now living with mom and dad or working minimum wage jobs wondering how they are going to pay off their student loans.

Black people are certainly no better off than they were fact of the matter is, if I’m not mistaken, black unemployment is at about 14%.

Christians vote for anon christian?like Romnet? Vote for Ryan then

    • The GLB

      Catholics are NOT Christian either!

You are a citizen of this country and you have Liberty to exercise your right to vote. Don’t be stupid and quibble about religion at this time in history. If God called a tyrant Nebuchadnezzar “his servant” and used a heathon like Cyrus, I believe God can deal with a Romney and a Ryan. O on the other hand is a curse and a judgement on America and the only good thing about him is he woke people up. With Romney when things are economically good the people will go back to sleep.

  • Strighttothepoint 2012

The VP debate last night,in my opinion was about a tie. However if I had to pick a winner,it would have to be Ryan!!Even though Biden Seem more educated on some of the issues,Biden,in my opinion was defending a lost cause, after all with a record that oboma has ,there isn’t much(or notrhing at all!!)to go on!!!I don’t think that the VP debate help Obama at all,(not that he doesn’t need it,because he does)I thought Ryan More than held his own, while at the same time, responding very nicely to some of BIdens, some what twist statements and comments!!!! Great Job Ryan!!!Vote Romney/Ryan2012!!!!!!

  • Russ

The smiles, smirks and other facial contortions that Biden employed had one purpose.
He wanted to divert attention from Ryan to himself. The “referee” for that debate is a
lefty herself and favored Biden by allowing him to “talk over” Ryan. Ryan won that
debate hands down and Biden is not qualified to be VP.
