The Cure For The Common Cause

February 8, 2011 by

The Cure For The Common Cause

At the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif., opulence permeates air which practically reeks of luxury — or at least that really expensive carpet freshener that you can’t get at Costco.

There’s 5-star dining, golf, a spa with all the… stuff a refined lady could hope for (I’m guessing a Brad Pitt doppelganger in track shorts) and something called Splashtopia. I don’t know what Splashtopia is. If I ever get to Rancho Las Palmas Resort, I’m going to find out; presuming security doesn’t find me first.

No wonder those burgeoning bugaboos of liberalism, the Koch Brothers, chose Rancho Las Palmas to host their recent gathering of the rich and Republican. And no wonder the liberal group Common Cause showed up outside the gates to vent their collective spleen at the Koch Brothers and their conservative-minded guests. It is a wonder that the commanders of this bellyaching brigade convinced their foot soldiers to leave their tinfoil hats at home.

Common Cause’s awkwardly-named “Uncloaking the Kochs” rally seemed standard for a large gathering of liberals. Some hair was uncombed. Some faces were unshaven, even for the boy liberals. Bathing certainly appeared optional. Everyone was livid. How dare these conservatives discuss conservative values! And how DARE Clarence Thomas be black AND conservative!

I know — you just pulled your intellectual handbrake. You’re wondering how that’s even germane to this narrative. Common Cause claims their mission is:

“to forge a democracy by and responsive to an engaged public, and committed to progress in the struggle for social, economic and environmental justice for all.”

All except conservative black jurists, evidently.

In post-Tucson America, we have to struggle as a nation with a great deal more than overused modifiers like “post-Tucson.” Democrat-leaning media outlets offer unyielding, albeit impotent, rage on a non-stop basis. Liberal commentators, unable to match their conservative counterparts on an academic level, instead hurl withering invective which is often unrelated to (ahem, Chris Matthews) not only the issue at hand, but to (ahem, Rachel Maddow) the truth.

And then, there’s Common Cause. Videographer Christian Hartsock ventured into their melee with a camera and captured the madness:

“He (Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas) is a dumbsh*t scumbag, put him back in the fields.”

“Cut off his toes, one by one.”

“String him up!” (Really?)

Where’s the civility? Where’s the tolerance? Where’s the bus to haul these clowns back to their big tent? Bit of a shame Justice Thomas lives in the 21st Century, or Common Cause would likely find common cause with those irascible characters from the Ku Klux Klan. And I’m sure Mrs. Thomas will be overjoyed to find out she’s made their hit list:

“Let’s get rid of Ginny (Thomas).”

All women are equal, but some are more equal than others. Common Cause didn’t seem to think Ruth Bader Ginsburg was noose-worthy. Actually, I’m in complete agreement with them on that point, although that could just be the laziness talking.

Justice Samuel Alito also ended up in the none-too-proverbial crosshairs:

“Alito should go back to Sicily!”

Um… Justice Alito is from Trenton, N.J.

They lobbed less clichéd and/or geographically misdirected threats at Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Antonin Scalia, Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes and Glenn Beck. Beck even earned an invitation for a Burr-Hamilton style duel from a woman who warned, “I pack Glock.”

Among the people who did NOT make the Common Cause hit list:

Oprah Winfrey and George Soros. Perhaps the Koch Brothers would make a less inviting target if they gave everyone free minivans; or joined Soros during his Nazi ride-alongs.

Democrats are fond of saddling the Tea Party in specific and conservatism in general as racist and violent. To date, they have yet to offer a single shred of evidence to back up those charges. Meanwhile, a well-funded liberal group dragged its carnival sideshow to California to call for the murder of — at last count — four Supreme Court justices (jealous, Justice Kennedy?), three media moguls, and a Supreme Court justice’s wife. I DID notice they didn’t mention Sarah Palin — probably because she’d plug them long before they got in range.

When the videos of Common Cause members making violent and racist threats began filtering out, the group released a statement disavowing their virtually shocking vitriol:

“We condemn bigotry and hate speech…”

Starting NOW, right?

Approximately the same time the Koch Brothers were hosting their gathering in California, billionaire Soros’s minions were attending a gathering of the rich and liberal — in Davos, Switzerland. Common Cause was nowhere to be found. I suppose planes don’t fly on biodiesel and hate.

Rancho Las Palmas was a Marriott-not a bad, but certainly not a fancy or expensive hotel by any strech

Bottom line up front brother, you ramble like your trying to reach a certain word count in a High scoop English essay assignment.

  • Cawmun Cents

You seem surprised Mr.Crystal? You find that there is contempt and hipocrisy in the leftist elite?Wow…one would think you stumbled upon a rare finding.Yes…there is a Santa Claus. His name is Obama, and he is their impotent god.

    • EddieW

The only thing that can help us now is Prayer!! We are too far gone, we are totally betrayed by our elected ones…Our foundation itself is crumbling…only prayer can strengthen it, as Tyranny will follow if it collapses!! Pray that we can keep our Constitution, Pray for the strengthening of Family’s…these are the foundations of our Country!!

  • s c

Progressives dare not look at themselves in a mirror. What can you say about an addictive mental disorder that says it’s impossible for a black man or woman to be a conservative? What is right about a herd of losers who think every woman must be a feminist? Where is it written that only through socialism and communism can we call ourselves just or moral or enlightened?
Barf! Utopianism has always been a childish, inferior excuse. As long as people refuse to make reality more important than fantasy, this world will have to pay for the presence of those who hate common sense and freedom. A pox on progressivism and its many puppet masters.

    • 45caliber

To the liberals, utopia is a place where everyone has everything they want when they want it. Yet many of there are already very wealthy by any terms, which allows them to have whatever they want when they want it. It makes me wonder just what it is that they still believe they need a utopia to provide for them. And no matter what sort of utopia they are working toward, it is certainly one where they will not need to give up their riches and will, in fact, be honored for that one reason.

      • vicki

        45caliber says:
“To the liberals, utopia is a place where everyone has everything they want when they want it.”

Yes. That is why they so easily misread the promise of communism. “To each according to his need.” They misread the last word.

45caliber: “Yet many of there are already very wealthy by any terms, which allows them to have whatever they want when they want it. It makes me wonder just what it is that they still believe they need a utopia to provide for them.”

The rich liberal want utopia to provide all of their poor relations with everything so the rich liberal doesn’t have to use his money or feel guilty for not providing for all of them him/herself. One of the reasons they are so adamant about using other peoples money. They want to keep theirs.

        • kate8

vicki – Brings to mind the uber-wealthy liberal politicians who use their own poor relations (which one told of his poor mother who couldn’t afford her medication? Gebhart? Dacschle?) to demonstrate the need for more public assistance programs.

They have more than enough money to help their own and then some. But, as you said, they want “other people” to pay.

Don’t forget Der Fuhrer and his half sibblings living in poverty back in his native Kenya! And then there is his aunt, I believe, who was living here illegally in poverty.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            Old Henry,
she still is as far as I know. she told reporters that we OWED her the welfare she was collecting. This was, mind you, after three seperate rullings that she was here illegally and she would have to leave. I haven’t seen anything about her leaving yet!!

    • Bruce D.

I enjoyed your post SC. Clarence Thomas has taken a beating from the left for his stance on original intent of the Constitution. He is not part of the Marxist thought meld. Even his wife has been under attack. Politically there are blacks that are starting to escape the Marxist thought meld. They are beginning to understand the destructive nature of the group mind. It is not easy for them as many black leaders make a living off portraying blacks as victims. Leftest organizations use blacks as fodder to promote Marxist ideals of social justice. I stand by Clearance Thomas. He is a great man. Only great men can make it through leftest universities and walk away with the understanding that the Constitution puts limitations on government. Unfortunately Obama did not make it out of the Marxist mindset that keeps societies from advancing.

It becomes easier to understand these people when we look at their heros. Alinsky claims to be an optimist while comparing “normal” life to Sisyphis, with the twist that the boulder doesn’t roll back down the hill but we only reach a series of bluffs with the top still above us!
These “heros” aren’t lacking in intellect. When he wrote Mien Kaump Hitler wasn’t, yet, insane but like Alinsky simply preverse and twisted in their phylisophys.
Today Soros is just greedy and power hungry, Maddow isn’t lacking in intelect just preverse. I’ve yet to be able to determine what has caused Obama to misuse his intellect!

    • Bruce D.

Ted, Obama gives credit to his father for his political ideology. Obama is keeping his school records from the public which would give more insight; especially the organizations he belonged to, place of birth, and what he claimed his citizenship to be on school forms. Also his association with Rev. Wright should give people a good indication of who is and what kind of guidance he is interested in.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Bruce D.,
I also believe he is hiding foreign student grants which if he isn’t a non-citizen and someone wants to levy charges would be FEDERAL charges and make him eligible for impeachment. We all know what happens if he IS a non-citizen!!! Talk about your tangled web!!!

        • kate8

Joe H. – I have this odd feeling that the elites have already signed over our national sovereignty to the NWO. How else could a foreign agent become POTUS?

The fact that all investigation into his true identity is thwarted at every turn, that courts refuse to hear evidence, that our officials (who supposedly represent us) turn a deaf ear to our demands for proof of elegibility…

Our Constitution is constantly dismissed and ignored…

Obama is the NWO’s man. THEY put him in power. THEY tell him what to do. I wonder when (and how) they plan to tell We the People.

          • kate8

The elegibility issue is beginning to have a ripple effect. Where will it end?

Another attorney is filing suit to get Obama’s (phoney) social security number records (WND).

This issue is boiling under the radar, and we don’t hear a thing about it.

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy 131

Good article, but liberals hate the truth coming to light. At least now we know from whence comes the rhetoric used against the Tea Partiers, from the liberal’s own machinations. Is liberal synonymous to hypocrite? This article, and the assertions and proclamations of those in it, seem to imply that it is. All this article proves is that the call for civility by the liberals is just a ruse, and they refuse to practice what they preach.

  • 45caliber

The problem is that liberals can’t handle rational reasoning or facts. That leaves them only vitriol to use in their arguments. And I’m certain that we’ll be seeing some examples of that very soon right here.

    • kate8

45 – I’m absolutely convinced that nonsense, double-standard and paradox are an established part of the progressive ploy. It’s hard to enter a debate when the entire premise makes no sense to begin with. It’s INTENDED to boggle the mind. When something seems futile enough, people will simply give up and go away.

  • Mary Kay Andrews

I belonged to a gaming/book club for about a year. Most of us were women with a few men sprinkled in. We enjoyed talking about books and games that we played with friends and family. As groups usually do, we also talked about our lives and things that happened to us daily. Sounds like a really nice group doesn’t it?
When the crazed loon in Tucson did his shooting spree, I found that there were members of the group who are absolutely nuts! Mental disorder may cover the vitriol I heard. Vicious and nasty is more like it. I was shocked at the spittle flying from the mouths of people I thought were pretty normal. Sad to say I haven’t been back. I can’t tolerate that kind of nastiness.

    • kate8

Mary Kay – People are being pushed to the limits of their endurance and outrage. When nothing makes sense anymore, what is left to do but vent?

You might want to cut them some slack. I’m sure that under normal circumstances they are very nice people.

      • Mary Kay Andrews

The thing that got me when talking to these liberals or progressives, whatever you want to call them, is the total lack of thought that went into their diatribes. When they found out that I am a conservative and one who is very active in the political scene, they went ballistic! How can you reason with people like this? I could see exactly what Ben Crystal was talking about with Common Cause and the worst of it was they thought they WERE being nice and reasonable. Sad to say the least.

        • Bruce D.

There is a huge divide between Conservatives and liberals that cannot be bridged. During the Reagan years there were conservative democrats that would make a bridge across the gap. They have been forced out of the democrat party and most of the southern states have left with them. Now it is not only blacks and woman who are under personal attack for not being part of the Marxist mindset, people in southern states are also.

        • kate8

Mary Kay – Now, that is a horse of a different color! You didn’t mention that these people were liberals.

In that case, I wholly agree with your reaction. I’d dump them, too.

Bruce D. is right. There is a divide that cannot be bridged.

  • H.R.I.M.

I have little doubt that so-called “liberalism” is a disease.
The good news, however, is that this is one disease which can be cured.
If you have a family member or friend who suffers from “liberalism,” make certain that these poor souls receive daily doses of both Truth and Knowledge.
At first they may consider this medicine to be bitter, and attempt to avoid it. Rest assured, however, after a relatively short period of time they will see the improvement in the manner/quality of their thought process, and they will thank you for helping them.
    Good luck, jms

    • kate8

H.R.I.M. – I know many liberals who have developed a strong immunity to truth and knowledge. It’s a strange phenomenon where such things cannot compute.

I’m convinced that their brains are wired differently.

      • Doug Rodrigues

I agree with the “wired differently” comment. The hard core Liberals mostly function on dreams similar to “wouldn’t it be nice if……..” and then proceed to implement actions to achieve the unachievable. Nowhere in their thinking do they consider reality: the human factors of laziness, greed, stupidity (which they are expert at), and complacency. It’s as though their adult logical mind never developed, but that they are stuck in an adolescent mentality thinking that anything and everything is achievable. If that were the case, I’d be a multi-billionaire! Most so-called “Liberals” are self-aggrandizing intellectual snobs who look down their noses at the masses of citizens who are assumed to be in need of the Liberal’s direction. Basically, we’re assumed to be too stupid to know how to run our lives. You can search the internet under the subject of psychology and find that it is a documented FACT that the higher the intelligence level, the lower the common sense level. It’s perplexing, but psychology papers are written on that combination of high intellect / low common sense. All things considered, I too feel that Liberalism, with it’s lack of logical reasoning and common sense, IS a form of mental dysfunction.

        • 45caliber

And some psychologists agree that it is a dysfunction. The ones who can think.

      • 45caliber

kate: You are quite correct. Even most psychologists will tell you that. I don’t remember which is which but one side of your brain governs logical thinking and the other “creative” thinking – which is another word for fantasies. We are one and they are the other.

        • kate8

45 – Logic is left brain, creative thought is right brain.

But that is an oversimplification, anyway. To be one or the other is to be unbalanced, whichever way. We need to be able to use both sides to function in a meaningful way.

While our left brain helps us to navigate through the physical plane, our right brain connects us to the spiritual. Both are essential for wholeness.

Our brain operates like a computer, so it’s more a matter of how it’s programmed in the first place. That’s why liberals go after the young children. Since their programming goes against nature, the indoctrination needs to begin early.

          Garbage in, garbage out.

          • libertytrain

kate8 being left-handed, I am nearly always in the right mind so despite decade after decade of indoctrination starting nearly at birth; pelted, beaten verbally day-in and day-out with their words – I was eventually able to escape the Left – whoosh, it was a close one.

          • kate8

libertytrain – Thank God you escaped! It is by the Grace of God.

          • libertytrain

            Amen, Sister.

    • 45caliber

One of the best ways to cure them is to wait until they insist that violence is never a solution to a problem. When they tell you that, knock them down. When they start to take a swing at you, point out that they are denying their very own words. When they start to relax, knock them down again.

When they get to the point that they are willing to swing back at you, you can then point out how their reasoning is off and you were right all along. They might even appreciate their lesson in a year or so.

      • Bruce D.

I always amazed at the hatred coming out of peace groups during demonstrations. You would think people promoting peace would not be so offensive and insulting.

        • 45caliber

          I agree with you.

  • eddie47d

Whenever Ben Crystal speaks Liberals better quake in their boots and run for cover. Not! This commentator is mixed up as usual for wasn’t it G. Bush who was supposed to attend that meeting in Switzerland? Maybe it wasn’t so liberal after all and just another meeting of the minds for Conservative “rocket scientists”. You know; The other elites! Ben says “Liberal commentators are unable to match their Conservative counterparts” I think that means he can go toe to toe with them and come out on top. I really don’t think so and I hope that ego of his doesn’t burst. That would make for a hell of a clean up.He mentioned another “well funded liberal group” (didn’t name it) that wanted to murder four of our Chief Justices? Maybe he will reappear and and clue us in on that tidbit. If it is true then it would be disgusting and if not …well that’s Ben for you. Why is it when wealthy Conservatives meet they aren’t labeled as “elites out to take over the world”? They manipulate, pollute, destroy, and bring financial disaster to our economy. There are too many who fawn all over their riches while they are picking our pockets.Do you think those wealthy Republicans out in Rancho Las Palmas Resort don’t have their own scam going? Does it come down to “they are evil but they are our evil son’s of a bitches”.

    • George Halepis

That should be “sons of bitches”, not “son’s of a bitches”. Apparently, your command of language is about on a par with your collectivist thought processes. No one but a statist would consider Bush a conservative. The manipulation, pollution, destruction, and financial disaster of which you speak could not take place without the connivance of our thuggish government that is run by the same elites who control both parties.

      • ValDM

eddie just has a problem with anyone that says something that doesn’t meet his criteria of distortion. Espcially Ben Crystal.

        • eddie47d

Why don’t you do a little research and find out what is really going on. The author did not tell the whole truth and you fall all over him. So what part of dishonest don’t you comprehend? You can rail aginst liberal reporting and “lack of facts” yet Conservatives do it all the time. Common Cause was mentioned but do you know the reason why? They exposed the work of Virginia Thomas when she was with the Heritage Foundation. She made $680,000 while working for them but failed to report it on her and Judge Thomas’s tax filings: (2003-07).Nothing was done about this matter until Common Cause brought this up. So failure to pay taxes is not only a Democrat problem but do you care? His wife also lobbies heavily for right wing causes so there is a strong conflict of interest. Now Scalia and Justice Thomas both attended this meeting in California when they both make major decisions affecting our country. Is that more conflict of interest or do they get a free pass? They both voted in favor of Citizens United which gave Corporations personhood. Mrs Thomas also founded and worked for Liberty Central which puts pressure on the Supreme Court and influenced the 2010 elections. Nothing like Justice Thomas having the cat in the bag in making his decisions.

          • Fed Up

          • Bruce D.

Eddie47d, you or the leftest blog site you got it from did not understand, or did not want to understand the controversy about Virgina Thomas’s income. All Virginia’s taxes were paid on time and in full. You should do a little more research on the matter. It is not complicated and is better if you research it yourself.

          • eddie47d

Sure after 4 years it was paid. I did mention that it was after Common Cause brought it up. You need to accept a little truth about your side instead of acting so innocent. Defend what is right not The Right.

          • Bruce D.

Eddie I could find nothing about Virginia or Thomas not paying their taxes and I assure you I looked. If you have a site give it too me or I will asume you as most liberals misinterpreted what you read.

Like all federal judges, Thomas must file annual disclosure reports on his personal finances, but he had omitted details of his wife’s earnings in what he wrote was a “misunderstanding of the filing instructions.”

This is about a disclosure form for judges only and has nothing to do with the paying or not paying of taxes.

      eddie, eddie, EDDIE,
How many times do I have to tell you that Bush was a RINO and as such is a progressive just like your little friend Soreass!!! Get with the program, son!!!

      • vicki

From Eddie47D’s perspective Bush probably was a conservative. From our perspective he was clearly a RINO. What we should really discover about Eddie, Obama, Bush and ourselves is where we are on the scale of 100% government to 0% government. (Eddies count+1)

Obama to take total control of all media. As of today. Indoctrination? Even Xboxes! Under GUSTAP”O”BAMA’S FEMA, Emergency Management Service’s.
