The CIA Wants More Drones

The CIA Wants More Drones
UPI FILE

The Central Intelligence Agency needs more drones, according to a proposal submitted by director David Petraeus.

Petraeus submitted a proposal to add up to 10 drones to a program that currently has about 30 to 35 of the unmanned aerial vehicles. The increase is needed to allow the agency to continue launching strikes in Pakistan and Yemen, while targeting terror threats in other regions of the world, according to a report by The Washington Post.

If the CIA proposal is approved, it could expand its drone missions to North Africa, where al-Qaida is expected to have established significant strongholds, while continuing aggressive bombing missions in Yemen and Pakistan.

Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik recently claimed that 80 percent of those killed in U.S. drone attacks in his country are civilians. And a recent study conducted by Stanford and New York University backs up the claim, finding that only about 2 percent of the nearly 3,000 casualties were high-value militant targets.

The White House Counterterrorism Security Group has not yet approved the CIA proposal; and, because top Pentagon officials have previously expressed concern about the CIA’s increasing involvement in targeted killing missions, there is a chance the agency will not get the extra drones.

Well, if I can’t get them drones how about ten more x-boxes for my warriors and warriorettes? BTW, I thought patreaus was pretty far up the ladder, who are these “WH counterterrorism security group” wonks? Where does the “buck stop”? Obviously, with this regime the “bucks” just keep getting passed around.

Oh, I almost forgot, for all u good little supporters of the “mitten’s slayer” have you heard the latest about “when” the embassy attack was taking place and “who” knew about it? Let me remember that famous slogan……………..right, Bush lied people died. Hmmm, me thinks, mr. campaigner n chief, you got some splain’n’ to do!

    • eddie47d

People die in every war whether sponsored by Democrats or Republicans. This is just a new way of government sanctioned killings. Out of sight and out of mind until an errant drone goes terribly wrong. Then the world (mostly civilians) isn’t so pleased with those devices. Now every world leader wants one of those “cool gadgets” for their arsenal to control the populace and win the war. Its like the general population wanting the latest I-Phone and feeling left out if they don’t get one. .

      • SJJolly

Ah, yes. First more drones, then better ones. As well as ground units, and human-appearing cyborgs. On to the world of the Terminator movies!

In the world of war, actions spawn reaction. How long before someone comes out with hardware and software to ‘jack drones? With drones that hunt and kill CIA and USAF drones?

  • teaparty13

Too bad he didn’t use the one circling Bengazi on Sept 11, may not have kept our people alive but would’ve taken out some of those [expletive deleted]

    • SJJolly

How much are you wiling to pay in taxes to provide every US embassy, world-wide, with at least one armed drone airborne 7/24? The things are not at all cheap to build, maintain, or operate.

  • Bev

    Waterboarding anyone?

  • Chester

I notice there was no mention as to whether these drones were to be capable of carrying arms. I am aware that there are only a few types that are weapons capable, and it isn’t stated exactly which ones the CIA has requested.

this is government meddling at its finest-if you make the argument that Pakistan is an enemy, and we need to carpet bomb them, killing mostly innocent people, then why,as
Rand Paul & others have asked, do we continue to send money that we borrow from China to them? This is the same “ally” that has jailed for 33 years the man who led the U.S. to Osama Bin Laden. One of the very few things this president has done correctly was to NOT
warn them we were coming-you can be sure Bin Laden would have been long gone.

    • The GLB

Michael, Bin Laden was long gone: something like ten years gone, i.e. in the grave gone. Don’t believe the government fables, according to them UBL was killed five or six different times, and since no one saw the body, or drew a DNA sample who is to say that the body the Navy dumped was even UBL’s?

      • SJJolly

        (1) According to official accounts, DNA testing WAS done.

        (2) Would you believe any DNA test that you didn’t do youself, from collecting the sample, to comparing the result against one on record?

Re: the validity of the government’s claim of the OBL killing, please remember how governments have no great repulation for truth-telling. Even today, millions of Americans are ignorant of the role FDR played in the staging of the Pearl Harbor attack as a ploy to get the USA (with most Americans sick to death of war), to get into WWII, on the side of the UK. By now, this has been well documented. Hell, just Google it!!

And, the Intelligence services are PARTICULARLY known for dissemination of absurd propaganda, and outright lies. As well as Black Ops. and $ billions in “off-budget” programs.. I say, enough already!!!

The CIA will always have a credibility problem, and when it comes to a ‘need’ for drones, the weak point will be whether those drones are needed for international or domestic use.
Can we all agree that it would have been nice to have a drone or two in the Benghazi area? Of course, we’re still waiting to learn if the prez was too busy to be a leader, or if there was a “designated” button-pusher who didn’t push the button when it became obvious that the Benghazi ‘crowd’ wasn’t there to get autographs.
Until all the info is in and sorted, I’ll assume that Obummer expects Amerika to look the other way on this issue. After all, it’s a bit late in life for the White House Messiah to be a complete and competent LEADER.

Why are we in Benghazi? Did Liyian soldiers land on America’s shores. If they did, what would American’s do to them?

  • http://wildeyguns.com The Christian American

TERROR: a physical or psychological act, violent in nature, the purpose being the gaining of submission. If not terror vehicles, what are these drones? I read about the Nurmberg trials of the Nazis. The law that was represented was God’s law or moral law. Many of the Nazis were hanged because they broke moral law. What I ask you, if we’re breaking all kinds of moral, what are we doing? God used us to punish the Nazis. Who or what is He going to use to punish us? Has America lost it’s moral compass? Do we really believe “Might makes right”, as Romney has alluded to? “I saw the enemy and the enemy is us”.

  • Dr. TCH

These people are war criminals, pure and simple. Tell ‘em to get lost, and to get an honest job. NO MORE DRONES!! And, no more foreign wars for ten years, while we get back on our feet at home.

  • Deerinwater

It sounds like we might need smarter Drones. ~ which means better intel ~ in a country where everyone is a liar , that’s hard to get.

    • http://ontheramparts.wordpress.com drtch

Smarter drones? Nope, smarter and saner leaders, and leaders who have no hidden agendas, like globalistic ones, and “free trade” ones…who are willing to stand behind the USA, not international companies which have no loyalty to any nation. And, are willing to tell the Military Industridal Intelligence Complex to get lost. Unfortunately, Obama and Romney do not qualify. Both are for the status quo and a solid imperialist agenda…and this insipid and thoroughly stupid War on Terrorism playbook.

  • John

I’m all for killing terrorists, but the idea of innocent civilians being killed in greater numbers than the terrorists is sickening, they should have rules of engagement for this a high collateral damage count is of no use to the U.S.A. and it’s allies it does not create friendship or even tolerance , with the average person in those countries

    • DrTCH

The problem is that the Pentagon (and most of Washington) contains more terrorists than you can throw a stick at. So, what targets should we select for the drones? How ’bout we get our own house in order, before acting like idiots (and immature children), and inflicting our insantiy on others on the other side of the world?!!

I swear, the world has gone mad!!!

      • bakerjohn

Well the world has been mad for years and insanity comes this way if we like it or not as seen during 9/11 we can pull back and do nothing but they’ll come here anyways with there madness they have promised us that through the years.
