The BIG LIE About Capital Gains

President Barack Obama’s socialist lackeys lie about capital gains taxes. Last month, liberal New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman wrote that capital gains rates are just for the very rich. In fact, the low capital gains rates apply to and benefit every American. Lower capital gains rates are what allow lower- class and middle-class Americans to achieve the American dream.

      It’s reakky pretty simple. If you make money from your work, you get taxed at a higher rate. If you make money from other people’s work, you get taxed at a lower rate, and WAR wants those taxes eliminated.

        The simple part (which somehow escapes Liberals eager to plunder other peoples’ wealth) is that every dollar taken from the Rich would have been spent much more wisely, as opposed to going into the pockets of Politicians and Bureaucrats, some of it being used to buy votes from ignorant envious voters. The Rich employ some of their money to buy toys (why not, they earned it), and much of it is invested in the capital equipment and property that is used to more cheaply and efficiently produce our goods. Both result in more jobs in the economy, especially the latter (capital investment). Without that investment, average people wouldn’t be able to have conveniences that Kings and Queens only dreamed of a few hundred years ago. Without that investment, the spoiled whiners in the US would be living like many, who now do have Governments like the Progressives yearn for — IN POVERTY. And I mean Real Poverty — Like living in Grass Huts with no sewage facilities.
        Here is real life like the Progressives would like you to aspire to. The countries with the Biggest Governments are at the bottom of the list. Pick the country names to see how they got there. And then look them up on the net and figure out what their average salaries and living conditions are like. It isn’t pretty.         By Dave’s ‘rational’ we should not tax the rich at all,because the more money they have the more it benefits us workers. Gee,I thought the Regan ‘trickle down’ theory was disproven when he pushed more money to the top,stagnated working wages, and trippled the debt at the same time.

        Just so Dave knows,about 1/2 of the rich don’t ‘earn’ their wealth,they inherit it. And,I would beg to differ that sitting on a beach sipping Corona beer while interest is being ‘earned’ from a multi million or billion dollar portfolio, is really ‘work’,or ‘earned’ at all.

        I had a teacher railing at me one day about the cost of medical insurance. He was going NUTS because he was expected to start making a contribution to the cost of the benefit, 5%, if I remember correctly.

        I asked him about his retirement plan, whether “they” had messed with that, too. He assured me “they” had not; he was making a huge return on his investments and as soon as he could retire he was moving to a state with a lower cost of living. He described how his teacher’s pension would effectively double by moving. He was set to live like a king.

        I asked him again about his health insurance. He was still mad. I asked how his retirement funds were invested. Heavily into insurance, a consistent, high rate of return. I asked him what he was complaining about.

        After a few seconds the 5-watter turned on. Then he was mad at me.

        Yep, those “liberals” are the masters of the economy.

        Nice try, but a 401(k) or a regular investment is NOT thye same as Capital Gains and CApital Gains are taxed at a lower rate.
        Interest or Dividend Income, which is how MOST people invest whatever savings they have accumulated, is taxed at their Income Tax Rate because they are added to Adjusted Gross Income.

        Are you so stupid as too not know HOW IRA’s and 401(k)’s work after you retire? In retirement, distributions from tax-deferred accounts such as a 401(k) become part of your adjusted gross income, and the Tax rate will be determined by the aount of your AGI.
        ALSO, tax-deferred retirement accounts have set limits on your annual contributions, which Capital Gains Investmenting does not.

      One of the things that I think we all have to realize is that it does absolutely no good to point fingers! There is more than enough blame to go around!!! We would’ve never came to this point if it wasn’t for corruption on both sides of the aisle! One of the things that we tend to overlook when arguing this problem out, that it is world-wide! We are tied to this GLOBAL economy and the only thing that I think we can do is to make a solemn oath to only buy products made in the USA, we are still the #1 consumer nation in the world and if we start only using made in the USA goods, maybe the WSFC’s (Wall St. Fat Cat’s) will get the idea and bring the jobs back here. That’s the biggest problem facing our country! The only reason besides God’s Grace, which is the MAIN reason by the way, that we became the greastest nation to have ever been was the fact that WE were totally self-sufficient. There was absolutely nothing that WE needed that WE had to count on another nation to provide us with! Now the whole middle class is gone and the 1% are whining that they have to pay for everything and the 99% Are whining givme, givme, givme!!! This great nation was built ON THE BACKS of the proud Americans whose blood, sweat, and tears went into the very fabric of what made this Land of the Free and Home of the Brave the envy of the entire world.       I’d rather it trickle down than dry up. Capital Gains taxes should never be over 15%. When regular middle class Joe sells his parents home he inherited he has to pay capital gains. Why should the government get to take more than 15%. Middle Class Americans are affected by capital gains rates. For Obama to say it only affects high income earners is a big lie. It’s bad enough when we have to pay CG when we sell our home without reinvesting in another home. The government didn’t do anything to deserve a penny.

        WRONG! When ‘regular middle class joe” and every other joe inherits his parents’ home, he doesn’t pay Capital Gains Tax, he pays an Estate Tax. When you sell YOUR home you pay the difference in the selling price minus what you originally paid PLUS you deduct ALL expenses for improvements and repairs. The resulting amount is your Capital Gain.

        Estate Tax

        The Estate Tax is a tax on your right to transfer property at your death. It consists of an accounting of everything you own or have certain interests in at the date of death (Refer to Form 706 (PDF)). The fair market value of these items is used, not necessarily what you paid for them or what their values were when you acquired them. The total of all of these items is your “Gross Estate.” The includible property may consist of cash and securities, real estate, insurance, trusts, annuities, business interests and other assets.

        Once you have accounted for the Gross Estate, certain deductions (and in special circumstances, reductions to value) are allowed in arriving at your “Taxable Estate.” These deductions may include mortgages and other debts, estate administration expenses, property that passes to surviving spouses and qualified charities. The value of some operating business interests or farms may be reduced for estates that qualify.

        After the net amount is computed, the value of lifetime taxable gifts (beginning with gifts made in 1977) is added to this number and the tax is computed. The tax is then reduced by the available unified credit.

        Most relatively simple estates (cash, publicly traded securities, small amounts of other easily valued assets, and no special deductions or elections, or jointly held property) do not require the filing of an estate tax return. A filing is required for estates with combined gross assets and prior taxable gifts exceeding $1,500,000 in 2004 – 2005; $2,000,000 in 2006 – 2008; $3,500,000 for decedents dying in 2009; and $5,000,000 or more for decedent’s dying in 2010 or later (note: there are special rules for decedents dying in 2010.)

        Yes, James, poor farmers and free enterprise DID move our Economy since the First World War, with a short interlude brought upon the world by Investors with a little thing called The Great Depression. After the Second World War, Big Business saw the Baby Boom and GI Bill lead to a growing Housing Market, which literally destroyed the ‘family farms’ through the development of subdivisions. Big Business then concentrated on the farming business by creating entities called Agribusinesses. Small neighborhood businesses have been replaced by corporate franchises. Hallmarks such as “pride of ownership” have been replaced by the Corporate Bottom Line.

Last year, it provided a seven percent discount on covered generic medications for people who hit the prescription drug coverage gap known as the donut hole, with 2,814,646 beneficiaries receiving $32.1 million in savings on generics.

      The American health care system is not the greatest in the world Freedom Fighter. Check out how we rank in costs and service and its not good. Sure we are better than Zimbabwe but who isn’t. This has been a fact for several years now so laying it on the Affordable Healthcare Act is political grandstanding at its finest. Costs of health care went up 59% years before and brought to you by private United Healthcare,Aetna and Blue Cross not “Obamacare” As far as the elderly are concerned things will probably be the same because of cost restraint but there will be no “death panels”. That is more propaganda from the right wing who present their own bookends of confusing facts. Considering how many citizens were uninsured in this country Before this new healthcare plan it could be a blessing for millions. (possibly 45 million). As far as drugs go you can thank Big Pharma for that in gouging the heck out of the consumer while padding their bank accounts. They can’t get away with charging grandma $600 for 10 pills anymore because there are alternatives. Another reason your health care costs were so high under the Big Pharma policies. Grandma had to pay for all their advertising you know and the private insurance companies had to get their share. Also as I have brought up before those doctors were heading to Wall Street for even bigger bucks. They were making plenty as doctors but the lure of even more money was too enticing for them. There is your private greed and evil taking over and not for the good of the country or for the patient.

That makes it alot tougher to persuade other nations to disarm. I doubt if we will go down to 300 anytime soon although that objective is on the drawing board. As in the past it would have to include other countries (Russia) giving up a certain amount also. As far as gutting the defense budget that should have been done 30 years ago. We should only have a large enough arsenal to defend America. Not this bloated cache of equipment that we use to strike out against foreign countries. 1,000 worldwide military bases is quite enough to support and probably way to many. Our large military budget only gives us a reason to troll for war and boy do we love using it. There is no Agenda 21 being implemented so why say there is? The truth is lost when you spread fear and not facts. Private Monsanto is the one confiscating farmland and spreading GMOs so there is your agenda so spend your energy taking them on instead of false flag propaganda. The USA believe it or not is still the number one manufacturer in the world and it is actually growing in some areas. After big losses at the end of the Clinton era and G Bush we are still on top.

    From 1987 through 2000, the capital gains long term rate was 22% or higher. Was investment stalled or diminished during that time? Was our economy in trouble?

    Since the massive Bush welfare system to the wealthy was set up, has long term investment increased? Has the lower capital gains rates helped employment and job creation?

    What is more important to our nation..deficit reduction or a continuation of the welfare system for the wealthy?

If you have ever earned any, you would know; and you would know why it’s important to protect that capital. Imagine if you were all of a sudden to pay the same amount of income tax (rate) on your savings account every year…do you see where your savings would go? That’s a basic example of why capital gain rates are different than earned income rates.

          Hard workers like me have a high disdain for folks who do not comprehend the protection of our wealth (what little we have left) from scumbag politicians buying votes by giving away our retirement funds. It really pisses us off.

            The ideal time to pay down the deficit is when the economy is prospering and the time to go in deficit to prop up the economy is when the economy is suffering, so comparing a decade to another is not adequate to understand. Money is just a very workable and convenient substitute for everything else that is out there. The government wisely using its powers to stimulate and incite people to produce and perform is what really counts. Look what the man on the moon project did for us and humanity!

That somebody else spends and invests their money much more wisely than Government people do. The private money owners use pricing signals in the marketplace to know which products are desired by the public and which aren’t, and thus which products to produce. The Government Leaders, on the other hand, determine where to put that money by who is most likely to put them back in office. They support those businessmen (Crony Capitalists), who can’t make the correct decisions to please the consumers, by giving them special protections at the expense of their legitimate competitors, their consumers, and the taxpayers.
        It’s not only immoral to help yourself to other peoples’ money, Louis, but it doesn’t even work. The economy crumbles as our financial and physical resources are wasted, and everybody else, except the Leaders and their select Cronies, suffers. That’s why the countries with the Biggest Governments have the worst economies. Oh, but the Leaders prosper. When obummer had the opportunity to allow the free market to make its necessary adjustments, he refused to allow the market to do so; and instead artificially poked huge amounts of tax dollars into a firepit which was a horrid investment (if those firepits like GM and Goldman Sachs had been such ‘good investments’ the free market would have invested in them; the fact is that the free market ran the other way and avoided them).

          So folks who would invest in other businesses are not doing so because the economy is being held under water by the stupidity of a strong federal government who doesn’t understand what ‘free market’ means anymore. It’s no wonder we have languished in a recession for over 3 yrs; the longest in 3 decades.

      To earn capital gains, your stock investments have to go up in value and be sold. The problem is that high taxation and deficit spending have created such a poor business and economic climate for US companies that stocks haven’t gone up in value in 13 years. The S&P500 is now right where it was in the first quarter of 1999. At the same time, the value of a dollar on the world currency index has dropped 20%. If you really want to accelerate this trend, just raise the capital gains tax. That will be like pushing the nitrous oxide button on the wealth destruction engine.

            Although he is a good “choice” he lacks the charisma to attract the people to his platform. Any successful candidate needs 2 main attributes,
            One, he/she needs to have a platform people understand and will rally behind
            Two, he/she needs to be also charismatic and a leader of the masses … Ron Paul has a hard time to sell his ideas to the broad public, and he has failed miserably on the second requirement. And thus he would not get enough votes to win.
            I know that many people don’t agree with me but the elections will show I am right. If he runs as a 3rd party candidate he may get 12%.
            If people write him in as a choice, 8-10% tops. If he runs as the GOP nominee he will lose to Obama by 15%.
            Ron Paul lacks the ability to excite and rally the masses. He is doing OK at his rallies, but then people that go there are already convinced and are willing to support him.

Both parties have that problem and Obama still has a few unanswered questions too.( Fast and Furious for one thing) If he chooses not to bring it to light he will pay the price too. Yet even Fast and Furious doesn’t compare to Bush’s Iraq War having WMD’s. That effected the whole world,trust in America and a lot of dead GI’s. So Bush is very relevant to the conversation.

I will say I agreed then, and now, with Bush’s decision to go into Iraq, as Saddam Hussein was, quite literally, thumbing his nose at the US and the UN when they tried to get into the country to check for the much belabored WMD. There was definite evidence that he has possessed, and used, various forms of those in the past, so what was to prevent him from stockpiling for future use?

        I know of no bigger tax on a man’s labor than a sales tax, as the working man has to spend a larger percentage of his income on new items, such as groceries, just to survive, than the man who depends mostly on gains from his stocks and bonds, or property sales. Strictly speaking, interest on bonds or stock dividends are not and should not be taxed as capital gains. However, the sale of stocks that nets a profit is a capital gain, as is the sale of a home or a business, if there is a net profit on the deal. Personally, I can see a three tier capital gains tax, high for items held less than ninety days, lower for items held between 91 days and ten years, and low for items held more than ten years. I know, there are a lot of day traders and house flippers out there who would hate this idea, but it is as fair as any other system of taxation, and far more equitable than a lot.

          Simply, because wish as we may, NONE of the people we elect into power will actually shrink the government…they all talk a good talk but never walk the walk. And it is understandable why not, after all, they are dependent upon the well being of those in government positions..if they get rid of them they just lost the vote.. with millions working for the government, millions of votes will be lost.
          So,someone has to pay for all of this, and thus leaders in this country will look to the rest of the world to see how they get their revenue. Most developed countries have a VAT, and thus you will see it happen here too. The VAT is the biggest rip off that there is, it directly relies on prices to be high and inflation to exist in order to provide revenue.

    Capital gain taxes shouldn’t be too high or why bother saving or investing. Yet most Americans who work hard wonder why people who make money off of money get larger breaks in life or at least on their taxes than those who physically labor in their jobs. The big problem is entities like Hedge Fund managers who only pay 15% no matter how much they make. That money is their salary yet they still get the big breaks. Nothing like making a cool billion and still spitting in the face of each and every other taxpayer. Considering how much Insider Trading goes on with Hedge Fund managers and few get busted then something is truly wrong with our financial system. That does reflect in how Americans perceive how money is taxed and who gets away with what.

      If the basis for such a tax is to encourage long term investment, I can see the point. the counter is the income gains are not taxed until the stock is sold, so there is no taxable event until such time. That also is an incentive to hold long term.

      Then again, is there really the thought that not having such a tax break will discourage investment? So … people just going to hold cash?

    Capital gains are only relevant when long term investments are SOLD. Selling long term investments DO NOT stimulate the economy. BUYING investments stimulate the economy. If you are going to use the income tax code to regulate the economy, you have to be willing to change the code when it becoomes necessary. If you want to encourage SELLING long term investments and thus slow down the economy, it makes sense to reduce the capital gains rate. However, if you want to encourage BUYING long term capital gains and stimulate the economy, you can DISCOURAGE SELLING by rasing the capital gains rate. Those who claim to be so faithful to the “free market” would seem to advocate not using the tax code to regulate the economy at all. The tax code should ONLY be used, except in vary rare cases, to fund the government.

    Low capital or no capital gains taxes are good for anyone who has capital gains. Generally more affluent people have more investment income and benefit most from capital gains. In fact, many very wealthy folks like Buffett and Romney derive nearly all of their multi-million/year incomes from cap. gains. For them to pay at a 15% max rate is simply wrong.
    The answer is to allow 0 capital gains tax for all gains up to a certain limit ($40K?) and to tax the rest at normal income rates, with provisions for inflation on long term holdings.

      One common tax cheat is to “pay” the person a single dollar or other mediocre income, but give them X shares of the corporation per year. And although they should pay taxes on the shares they receive, it is done in a way that they have to pay NO taxes unless they are actually selling of those shares. Meanwhile, they live on the investment “earnings of those shares and only pay 15% taxes. Its a means of getting around the higher taxes everyone else has to pay for their labor… its a cheat the rich had written into the tax code.. if you want to be fair to all, this should be stopped. And its easy to do, just tax them the regular state, town and federal taxes everyone else pays on the full value of shares received period. Now they would pay their fair share and I would not care about any capital gains tax later.

    One of the reasons this country has been the biggest success story in the history of the world is that we have established a system of capital formation that leads to economic growth and higher living standards.

    Between 1900 and 2000, for example, real wages rose in the U.S. from fifteen cents per hour to over $15.00 per hour. Adjusted for inflation, that increase is the equivalent of a worker earning as much in 12 minutes as a worker in 1900 took an hour to earn. That increase in real wages is the result of higher productivity fueled largely by capital formation invested in plant, equipment, and technological improvements. Wage rates are highly sensitive to the ratio between capital formation and labor.

    Capital gains taxes are, for most, a form of double taxation. When I buy a share of stock it is with after tax dollars, after already paying a marginal rate of 33%. Now, let’s say I go out and buy stock that appreciates in value by 50%: from $10,000 to $15,000. At present capital gains rates, I would pay $750.00 on the $5,000 gain. But were it taxed at the regular marginal income tax rates, as Obama suggests, I would pay $1,650.00 (33%) on the gain on top of what I already paid when it was earned. As history shows, when capital gains tax rates are raised, investors simply hold on to their assets to avoid paying the higher rates, thereby reducing revenue to the federal government. Lowering capital gains rates, on the hand, liberates these gains as investors sell, and increases revenues to the federal government. When this was pointed out to Obama during on the Democrat debates, he said raising the rates was a question of “fairness.” In other words, out a perverted sense of fairness, Obama would reduce federal revenues. This is the position of a left-wing ideologue, not an individual who comprehends economics.

    Saving and investing, whether through direct purchase of stock, or through mutual funds or pension funds, is how many people in America, either directly or indirectly, save for the future. Raising capital gains taxes simply thrusts a dagger through those dreams by reducing their gains, and by inhibiting capital formation that is the lifeblood of economic growth.

    Economic “stimulus” programs, filtered through an ignorant government bureaucracy, simply redistribute money from the productive segment of the population to the unproductive, from the far more efficient free market to the highly inefficient government sector.

    But let’s face it; Obama’s narrative is to engender class warfare, to create envy among the unproductive by demonizing the so-called “rich.” Every demagogue
    needs a demon to deceive the ignorant masses who are looking for something for nothing. The so-called “rich” already pay far more than their “fair share” (a much abused term). The top 1% already pays 38% of the taxes in America. The top 10% pays 70% of the taxes. It is a false premise that the income of the wealthy is at the expense of those not wealthy, but one that demagogues like Obama must use to advance their agenda of control. But Obama would like to milk them for more because that gives him more money to buy off the unproductive classes at the least political cost. Obama is also a liar. While he rails against “millionaires and billionaires,” that classification also includes those making $200,000/$250,000 or more because that is where more of the potential revenue lies, including most small business owners who file as individuals.

    Obama’s drive to raise the top marginal rate to 39.6% and the capital gains to a like percentage is fueled by the left-wing radicals who now control the Democratic Party. The average party member doesn’t even know what the top marginal rate is, as revealed by a 2008 survey of delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Not a single delegate surveyed guessed the top rate to be 35%. The average response was 25%. I contend that those responses reflected their idea of a fair rate.

    Obama’s budget merely delays the inevitability of radically higher marginal rates for all taxpayers in the future unless spending is brought under control. How high? Those in the current 25% bracket (i.e. middle class folks who work for a living) will see their marginal rate rise to 63% according the Congressional Budget Office, to pay for the rising costs of existing entitlement programs. And that was before passage of Obamacare. The rate for the “rich” will rise to 88%.
    And to think we started a revolution over something far less onerous, a tax on tea.

    Obama is getting monotonous droning about “shared sacrifice” and “fairness,” and Warren Buffet and his secretary. Warren buffet pays himself less than his secretary because he has his money locked up in investments that he does not sell. He has, thus, become a dishonest shill for the Marxist currently in the White House.

    No one should paying more than 20% of their income to the federal government, regardless of their income. It belongs not to the government, but to those who earned it, and certainly not to radical ideologues who want it to advance a socialist welfare state that will eventually collapse, just as the countries in the EU are now collapsing.

      What is funny to me is, the accuser knows MUCH less than the accused. Ken, where DO you find your misinformation?
      The tax appeal of the long-term capital gains tax rate is that it is generally much lower than what you pay on your regular income. In fact, it is a taxpayer’s income level that generally determines which capital gains rate applies. And if your profit pushes you into a higher bracket, you could possibly be taxed at a combination of rates. And you could face yet another rate depending on the type of property you sell.

      On Jan. 1, 2008, the best of all possible tax rates — zero percent — took effect for investors in the 10 percent and 15 percent income tax brackets.
      Previously these taxpayers had to pay Uncle Sam 5 percent of their long-term capital gains. Now any long-term assets they sell will be exempt from capital gains taxes.

    You are half right. We could have a zero capital gains rate for those earning less a certain amount, but I would set it much higher. But the general capital gains rate should be set to promote capital formation first, and revenue second. That’s a far better jobs program than the stimuli. Raising the capital gains rate to the normal marginal income tax rates would be devastating to the economy and economic liberty, while sharply reducing revenue to the federal government.

    No one HAS to take a capital gain. If you tax the gains at 36% no one will cash in their investments unless they absolutely have to. Thus the IRS gets nothing!

      Unless you change it so that the people who are circumventing the system get taxed at full rate. If the government would tax the stocks received as compensation (a practice the rich have perfected in order to evade paying their fair share) at the time they are received for the full amount of taxes everyone else pays then the whole issue becomes a mot point.
      As an example, my Son who works for one of the corporations on the west coast, he makes $10 a year,in addition he gets the equivalent of 4 million a year in company shares. He pays taxes on those shares only if he sells them. meanwhile he lives nice and prosperous from his investment income of those shares and pays a marginal 15% tax instead paying the same tax the ordinary person would pay for his/her labor.

    This is the big lie! Capital gains tax breaks are almost exclusively enjoyed by the wealthy. Most people who own stocks have them as a part of an IRA. Frankly I would not trust anyone who does not know this (or is willing to lie about it) with my money. I would also never trust anyone who is so mind-numbingly ignorant that they apparently don’t know what Communism is, and apparently the author doesn’t know if he thinks anything in the Obama administration is “Communist.”

I would propose we work towards pushing our bloated and ineffective government back to what our Founders put in place. A free society, not socialism. Our public workers and officials have forgotten that they were hired or elected into office to serve the people, not control them as that silly ass Pelosi has stated. I think her picture is in the dictionary under the caption, “moron”.

If you honestly compare each group I can’t imagine why you would hold the Tea Party in disdain while accepting a group that throws urine and feces bombs, vandalize property, have had robberies, rapes and a murder at your rallies, assaults the police then leaves their campgrounds a polluted mess. The battle cry of these crazed mob is to forcefully overthrow the government replacing it with Communism then mass murder all the rich and wealthy. And the left totally supports these people, i.e. Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reed and a host of other Democratic members. This is what the left stands for? Is this your moral standards? When the main stream news media compares favorably the Occupy and Tea Party it reveals how bankrupt their journalistic integrity really is.         As far as hating the wealthy, I purport that is exactly what you are doing (hating) when you want take money from a person of means then to give more money to a completely wasteful government. We can argue until the proverbial cows come home about what a fair share should be because that’s only opinion. My views on this matter is that they DO pay their fair share since the top earners are paying somewhere around 70% of the tax income generated. If you disagree with me then, too bad, that changes nothing. That’s your right to disagree but when you think that your opinion actually matters to me then you’re delusional. Another fact is that nearly half of our adult population pays no taxes at all. Is this fair? I would honestly say in most cases, yes. Why doesn’t the left even consider cutting back government spending? You didn’t bother to respond to that issue.

        Hey “Pal”, the slaves were brought over by the English, Portuguese, Spanish and French long before this country was founded. It’s strange that the “hate America” crowd only brings up the fact that America had slaves. Yes, I understand that doesn’t make it right for a country to purport to be free while legalizing slavery but I think we have that problem under control except for the aftermath in which time and understanding will hopefully cure this sickness. And your statement about “white landowners “all” owning slaves is totally bogus if you take the time to check the facts. Not all slave owners were cruel with a good percentage that befriended their slaves which eventually resulted in these slaves being set free. Never a mention of this well known fact is brought up.

        The bottom line about the positions you presented to me is that if you don’t like the American way of life, the Constitution, free enterprise there’s plenty of other countries on the planet you can “occupy”. So buzz off flake!

          Yes, the top 10% DOES pay 70% of Federal Income Tax, which sounds bad until you remember that the top 10% CONTROLS 80% of the country’s wealth. Doesn’t sound like a bad deal, now huh? Do your homework, I have. I have a degree in Finance, Taxation, and Accounting. You can a make a LOT worse mistakes than to challenge me on Taxes, which I am confident that you have done in the past, slick.

          I also didn’t know that you had first-person knowledge of the caring treatment that the slaves received from their masters,….. how old ARE you?…but you also don’t cite any source to prove your opinion. Opinion, NOT facts.
          The slaves HAD to ‘be brought’ here, as they weren’t going to build their own boats to come here, and not only were they brought here, they were BOUGHT here. Your statement that a good percentage of slave owners befriended their slaves which eventually resulted in these slaves being set free is moronic at best. Slaves were commonly bequeathed to heirs of the masters in their Wills. The CIVIL WAR, approximately 100 years after the revolution, set the slaves free. Look it up, I have.
          BTW, I NEVER stated that “white landowners all” owned slaves, which was the accepted rule of plantation owners in the South, I stated that ONLY White Male Landowners had Rights. THAT is in the Constitution, sonny. Everyone else was considered to be 3/4 of a person and did NOT have the Right to vote. Look it up, I have.

    The very fact that you want to scrap the Constitution shows just how out of touch you are with reality. That’s not going to happen in my lifetime, my children’s nor my grandchildren’s. The Constitution no longer fits our times? You are the one that’s misinformed. Your lack of respect for other viewpoints, other peoples rights, our political/economic system and the American way of life is truly troubling. I believe strongly in the Constitution of the United States of America. As a combat veteran that’s fought multiple tours overseas and now a citizen concerned with the state of our country I will say and do what is necessary to protect America and it’s citizens. This document we call our Constitution was written by moral men with insight much superior than any mind can conceive today. Especially the buffoons presently screwing up both our legal system and economy. Your beliefs in either changing it (the Constitution) radically or destroying it is unconscionable. If you don’t believe in America then please do everyone else a favor. Go somewhere else and change their countries core beliefs. Be warned, you’ll probably be shot for expressing any dissension. As for most Americans, we’re totally satisfied with what our fore-founder’s have given to us as are millions around the world trying to become Americans. BTW, sorry for calling you a flake.       Wow, you are VERY good at putting words into peoples’ mouths, aren’t you? SHOW ME where I said that I wanted to scrap the Constitution. You can’t, because I didn’t say that.
      I have respect for other peoples’ viewpoint; as long as it isn’t part fantasy and part lie.
      I KNOW about our country’s history, as I found a HUGE desire to understand how our ancestors were affected on a daily basis when I discovered, 25 years ago, that my family has been here since 1638. My fore bearer helped to lay out the original city limits of Salem, Mass. My family has fought in EVERY war in which this country has been engaged.

      I NEVER said that the Constitution no longer fits our time; I said that our Fore Fathers set up a Government that fit their Time. They had NO concept of HOW our country would evolve. They just wanted the Freedom to govern themselves instead of bowing to the whims of a Monarchy an ocean away. They also chose to make EVERYONE who was not White, who was not a Male, and who did not own land as 3/4 of a person and would not be imbued with the Rights as laid out in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as White Male Landowners. EVERY man who signed the Declaration of Independence owned slaves. MY family most assuredly owned slaves from what I have found in my research. It was the accepted Law of the day, but they does NOT make it correct from a Christian perspective, which is the way that today’s Conservatives incorrectly believe our Government was set up to operate.

      I don’t question the morality of the writers of our Constitution, as it FIT THE TIME. No one can deny that if it was proposed TODAY whereby blacks could be bought and sold as property, that women could not vote, and that white males who did not own land would also not have a say in the political representation of our citizenry, those people would be considered, not immoral, but insane. THE CONSTITUTION FIT THE TIME, and it has been amended over the years TO FIT THOSE TIMES.

      What I consider entertaining is that you can make the statement, “Not all slave owners were cruel with a good percentage that befriended their slaves which eventually resulted in these slaves being set free. Never a mention of this well known fact is brought up.”, and you can call ME a flake? I see that you steered away from that line of thinking as you must be embarrassed by your lack of Historical events. Google ‘President Abraham Lincoln’ and you will discover that he was shot in the head because he freed the slaves which angered those ‘caring, benevolent’ slave owners to the point where they were willing to take up arms against their countrymen so that they could KEEP their slaves as property.

      I agree that there are buffoons making a mess of our Legal System and Economy which they have been allowed to buy and sell with their Riches and Immorality. THEY are forcing THEIR views on the rest of US. It’s a shame that their are people who have your lack of insight that will defend them.     Sorry (and I’m definitely not your “pal”), the above statement you made looks incredibly like an assault on the legitimacy of our Constitution. To clarify my position, the Constitution was written to limit the size and scope of government, not what we have evolved into with today with our intrusive government which has imparted numerous foolish and damaging restrictions to each and every private citizen and to especially to businesses. We have the highest corporate tax rate in the world (35%) with the most regulations to boot. This mega-government also has over-taxed private citizens, either directly or through licensing and/or fees. This is not what our countries founders intended for us nor is it sustainable as evidenced by the European financial crisis that we are mimicking. I agree with Wayne Allyn Roots presentation. We don’t need another tax.

    My original comment was to point out Alex’s lack of civility and lack of facts. You saw fit to descend on me with your set own set of facts, ignoring my right to both my own opinions and to provide facts of my own. Along with your intrusion into my commentary you also proved my original point that anyone on the left cannot pass up an opportunity to be disrespect and to subject the opposition to an array of vulgarities and insults rather than have a civil discussion. You have also proved yourself dishonest by not commenting on some of the main issues I’ve brought up then replaced with non related issues, i.e. slavery. This has led to an expansion of issues not originally presented, thus this discussion is closed. Firstly, you cannot remain respectful nor show any civility. You are, simply put, a troll. Second, you cannot recognize whenever a valid point is made (note I didn’t say will not, you simply don’t possess that ability ). And lastly, since you have intruded on statements that I originally made to Alex I believe you are obligated to stick to the subject at hand and not muddy up the waters with side issues.

      YOU made reference to the Capital Gains Tax as taxing people for making extra money. I proofed you wrong. Income is income, either Earned or Unearned.

      YOU made reference to a “free society” which is in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
      I proofed your inference as inaccurate through historical fact.

      Clearly, you have a flawed vision of the Constitution:
      “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
      I don’t see ONE word about business in there; only forming a more perfect Union, establishing Justice (Laws), the defense of the country, and ensuring the general welfare, liberty, and prosperity of the citizenry.
