Texas approves gun bill

May 27, 2009 by

Texas approves gun bill Despite protests of anti-gun activists, Texas legislature has voted to allow college students and employees to carry concealed handguns on campus.

According to Houston Chronicle, the bill allows students who are at least 21 years old and licensed to carry concealed handguns to bring those weapons into state campus buildings, although private institutions will be able to opt out.

Only university hospitals and athletic facilities will remain off limits to guns, it says.

"I would feel personally guilty if I woke up one morning and read that something similar had occurred on a Texas campus," said State Senator Jeff Wentworth, a Republican, who introduced the bill after the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech, quoted by the newspaper.

However, his Democratic counterpart Rodney Ellis expressed concern that the situation could confuse police, who will not know if a person carrying a gun on campus is violating the law or not.

"When there is an alcohol-related tragedy on campus, you don’t hear claims that giving students a 12-pack is the solution," he was quoted as saying. "Yet, when it comes to gun-related incidents, we seem to think that putting more guns in the mix will lead to a good, rather than bloody outcome."

Despite the developments in Texas, seven Louisiana state universities have recently signed resolutions opposing legislation to permit the carrying of loaded guns on college campuses.

Texas has some smart thinking people. Wish it would become infectious.

  • Jerry Mink

Congrats and Kudos for the State of texas, until we all stand up and insist our voice be heard and our const. rights are protected we are headed for the #*@& house and our government has a good leg up on it already.

  • Springer

“However, his Democratic counterpart Rodney Ellis expressed concern that the situation could confuse police, who will not know if a person carrying a gun on campus is violating the law or not.”
Why would it confuse the police?

Scene: College campus where deranged gunmen have opened fire.
    Officer: “Put down your weapon.”
Student: “Yes Sir. I’m not the one your looking for though.”
Officer: (after checking the student out) “Good job holding those thugs at bay until we arrived.”
Student: “Thank-you. Only doing my part to keep America safe.”
    Fade out.

“When there is an alcohol-related tragedy on campus, you don’t hear claims that giving students a 12-pack is the solution,” he was quoted as saying. “Yet, when it comes to gun-related incidents, we seem to think that putting more guns in the mix will lead to a good, rather than bloody outcome.”
Typical come back. Twist the situation around to benefit your cause.
I got one for ya; when there is a tragic rape committed on campus, you don’t hear claims that giving students condoms is the solution. Oh, wait, YOU do think that’s the solution, don’t you Mr. Ellis?

    • Eric Bischoff

      Springer,
I think the scene would be more like bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, and they are either dead or maimed, bad guys, cops, supposedly good guys with guns, innocent bystanders. Mayhem. Oh well we are overpopulated and we have too many morons. So be it. Time will tell how this play will end.

One thing is for sure we are becoming more and more violent and we have more guns than ever. I wonder where we get this influence? Could it be our war mongering government?

Blow jobs for $5.00 from high school girls was said to go through the roof after the Bill Clinton incident. It’s not really sex! So we are influenced by our government.

I have lived in this country for 44 years now and I don’t think we have ever NOT BEEN AT WAR bombing, killing, invading, occupying. What’s with that?

Is that what you people want? Are you OK with that? Can I see a show of hands?

      By the way.
The way to keep America safe is to leave others alone and not trample all over their countries with our soldiers; Not help corporations steal their resources; Not unfairly subsidize and wipe out other economies while pretending to believe in free markets. Education and opportunity not War is how you make this entire world safer.

      • jrmft

Eric, if you are so uncomfortable with the way America does business please feel free to go back from whence you came. Please go quickly and quietly. The solution you are silently supporting is what the left is always pushing. Take away the guns from the law abiding people and leave them with the criminals. That makes a whole lot of sense. Look at the crime rate in states like Vermont and Texas where law abiding citizens can carry weapons. Criminals know that many others are carrying weapons and if they attempt to do something they may end up as the one getting shot. That is the real deterrant not our justice system.

        • Eric Bischoff

          jrmft
          1) Yes I am uncomfortable with stolen elections, the shredding of our constitution, the unpatriotic act, Preemeptive wars, torture, kidnappings, assassinations of world leaders, bankrupting our nation, giving away our money to corrupt bankers. Anyone who is comfortable with that is an idiot.

          2) Do you know how mean and stupid you sound when you use that America love it or leave it crap? Do you realize that you are just like the ignorant German people who let themselves be manipulated by their govt and then treated the Jews that way, telling them get out we don’t want you here. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you bring that up in confession.

          3) Please real all my posts everywhere on this site and show where I have once said that we should take away guns. I’ll repeat myself since some of you are a little slow. I don’t own a gun. In moments of weakness, I’ve thought about getting a gun to protect myself from all the gun toting idiots. But then I remember. What would Jesus recommend? Get a gun or turn the other cheek! How did Gandhi win India’s independence, with a gun or peaceful resistance?

          4) the best way to reduce crime rate is and has always been education and job opportunity. Anything else is just a cop out.

Unlike many of you on this site I am not obsessed with guns. I find it sad that a lot of you are. There are plenty of more important things.

          • John

Correction: The Nazis did NOT tell the Jews to go back to where they came from. They would not let them out of Germany until they had seized everything they had, and even then shipped them to concentration camps. There the population of undesireables was ‘concentrated’ to make it easier to apply the ‘final solution’.

You, however, are welcome to leave with all your assets and chattels and good riddance.

          • Felix

Eric, I came to US of A in 1978 form the USSR, and MY AMERICA does not put a second chick to be slapped on… Praise the Lord and pass me ammunition… Remember these famous words… That is what WE are… and that is what WE need… we the people not MORONS know how to defend ourselves, unfortunately too meny liberals moved to this country running away from their BS and what they do here??? Create same BS environment. That is an idiotic mentality… trying to do same thing expecting different results… Any restrictions on guns gives idiots an upper hand… if thy would knew that anyone can have a gun they would not do this $h-t… because on the first place they are bullies and only pick on a smaller victim who cannot stand for himself. So get samrt or get out of our way

        • UpGrayedd

Heck, I’d be happy to help pay for his ticket. :o)

        • Amy Emerson

I agree with your comment to Eric. Yes, we should stand up for what is right and fair. & No we shouldn’t tolerate evil. However, I DO support our troops (our family has served in every war since WW1) but I do not support lies to start wars. To me, the current war is soley based upon the greed for natural resources. I am saddend to think that American interests in other lands are not always necessary except for those reasons. However, do not claim that our entire country (it’s innocent citizens) are to blame for the mess we are in. The elected officials we PAY to take care of OUR business have instead taken steps over the years to steal from us and then to lie about it too. WHY ISN”T THERE A REQUIRED AUDIT from our Government Officals each tax quarter? They require it from us at least once per year if WE have employment!

          • JCfromDC

Execpt we haven’r received “Jack” from Iraq and just get opiates from Afghanistan. The Afghanis are just beginning to find out what’s in “them thar hills”.

      • Carol

Eric, you have forgotten the Twin Towers, Pearl, Harbor, the USS Kohl and many other ‘acts of war’ apparently. There is evil in this world, i.e. Adolf Hitler and Sadaam Hussein; there is no reasoning with those types of individuals. Warm fuzzies simply make such people laugh at your naiveté.

        • JCfromDC

The USS “Kohl”???? They named a ship after a furniture store???? It’s the USS COLE, sir. Please.

      • 13th Gen. American

If you are an legal american them you have a right to your opinion however dumbass it is. By saying Ive been here however long doesnt mean a thing. You came here for what reason? To have it be like where you came from but with more money and better hygiene? America did not get to be the greatest country on earth(THANK YOU GOD.) by following the standards of the left in any way. That stupid friggen movie by Mike More just showed the few worst of people that you can find everywhere. If he did a story on bowling for real Im sure hed find ways bowling balls kill people too. Most everyone in my extended family have guns and they know how to use them. Its not a game. The bad guys will always get one. Its like rock/paper/scissors. I think a gun trumps knives and a stern talking to so if someone tries to kill you with a gun what ya gona do? Use your super hero eyes and melt it out of his hands? It is better to have a gun and not need it than not have one and die. Texas and those other states know whats coming and we better get those liberal weenies out of office or we in other states are screwed.

      • Brett

Eric, tell me where you live… I want to move next door. I’ll put up a BIG sign in my yard with an arrow pointing to your place… “My dumbass neighbor doesn’t believe in guns and doesn’t have any. I don’t share his philosophy!”

        Let’s see what happens…….

Start thinking for yourself! You’re smarter than that!

      • 13th Gen. American

If we could just ban stupid people America would go back to being Great and all the left wing nutjobs would get fined for continually coming up with anti American ideas and we would have so much money we could have all this free stuff they want just from their own stupidity. ………Sorry folks. Just was wishing there for a min.

        • lady di

I agree! Not only ban the stupid people, tax them also! Wake up America. I like to shake the hands of the smart Texas boys. I only wish it was a nation wide ruling. We all need our guns to protect us from the govt. They are the ones that are making all the rules to fence us Americans in. They think we are the Terrorist! America has woken up to a Socialist country! Kiss it good bye……..

          • Amy Emerson

            Yes My Lady!

      • dale

        Eric

What war were we in between Vietnam and Desert Strom?

        • Eric Bischoff

          JRMFT
I’ve heard the America love it or leave it before during the 60′s. It was dumb them and it is dumb now. It would make more sense if the American Indians used it but they don’t.

Does anybody read anymore? I am not for taking away anyone’s guns. You are all so paranoid it’s pathetic. I am merely opening up the discussion. But no one seems to be willing to entertain anything but you can’t take away my gun.

Tell me, what is the solution I am proposing?

          Carol
You are the one who drank the Kool Aid. Many of these events and many more were proven to have been manufactured and used as a pretext for war. No one reads so they’ll never know. It’s already out there because of the freedom of information. The truth silently surfaces eventually. But by then you have all heard the lies so often. That’s all you can see anymore. As far as 911 there’s a hell of a lot that we still don’t know. Yet many uneducated morons still believe that Saddam was responsible. Saddam and many like him came to power because we put them there. They were out dictators. Wow we should really be proud off that!. We armed them, financed them and when they felt their oats and thought they could do what they wanted we got rid of them.

          13Th Gen. American

If we banned stupid people most of you would be gone. You don’t know what you don’t know. I feel sad for you because you don’t seem to be interested in really finding the truth.

You can keeping thinking that America is the greatest country in the world and it still won’t make it so. It could be but it isn’t by far and that’s why some of us are willing to fight for that.

Start looking it up. Show me what we are number 1 at besides imprisoning people anymore. We are not the best educated we keep slipping we are now 18th. Cuba has the most literacy in the world, maybe we should invite them to teach us how to fix our educational system and I am sure their budget is impressive. It’s not healthcare, we’re 37th. France is no 1. We still manufacture more than any other but we are slipping fast and China is about to overtake us. That’s what you get when you focus on war.

          Dale.
You obviously only recognize the officially declared wars. All other covert actions, bombings, assasinations, coups, overthrows of democratically elected govts obviously don’t count for you. And that’s why the Executive branch declared an open and unending war on terrorism. That way they get around congress. Are you OK with that? Perpetual war! How long do you think we can keep financing this?

America lost it’s way when it got involved in the Spanish American war and it’s been downhill ever since. Our founding fathers warned us about that. The list is so long it’s not worth listing it all here. You look it up if you know how. But here are a few. Cambodia, Chile, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Panama 1989, East Timor, Beirut 1982, Iran, Grenada 1983, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq.

Why do you think we maintain 1000 bases all over the world. How would you like it if China opened a base in let’s say Kansas. You know so they could keep an eye on their interests. Afterall that’s our excuse. We do owe them a shit load of money! We are constantly meddling in other countries affairs. And for what and for who. It’s not to promote democracy and freedom, it’s to position ourselves startegically to control the world’s resources. How Democratic and Christian of us. We covet other people’s stuff. And then most of you are in complete denial over it.

Is any one here going to discuss any of these points or are you all going to spew out Fox sound bites. Are you interested in making this a better place? Do you have any worthwhile ideas? Or will you just cling to your guns.

Bring it on, I am waiting.

          • Amy Emerson

I remember how we kicked the Brits arses out of here when there was “taxation without representation” going on. Well, it’s going on again. I remember that American Citizens kicked them out with guns, not words!

        • greg

Do some reading, we intervened militarily in multiple Central and South American countries: Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, etc. We called them trainers and advisors, not soldiers, but we had boots on the ground in numbers.

      • http://DontcallpeopleMORONSifyoudontwantitback! American

Are you really that blind?! “WE” don’t do anything…the whore mongering, money hungry politicians do it all … don’t you DARE include me in the thievery that goes on by Public Corporations that are controlled and influenced by the american political machine.

We have to KEEP our guns and our gun rights because it is these very people who rape and plunder the world that will rape and plunder us … if they are give the chance!!

Rapist only respects the person who is stronger than them … read your history books … look at recently de-gunned australia

Bury your head in the sand deeper, maybe your fairly tale land will come into existence … when the euphoria from you having no oxygen takes effect….

Our forefathers lived without the right to keep and bear arms… they knew 1st hand…people who think greedy power hungry people have changed are the dangerous ones… Our RIGHT TO KEEP & BEAR ARMS WAS NOT SO WE CAN DEFEND OURSELVES FROM EACH OTHER … RATHER from tyrannical governments ….including our own!

So, you have the right to keep and bear arms… or…you don’t … there is no middle ground………….

        • Amy Emerson

My sentiments exactly. Thank you for telling the truth!

      • ona585

        Dear Eric:

Please go back where you came from. I don’t own a gun right now, and I do not approve of anyone carrying a concealed weapon on any school campus unless that person is a certified police officer. We have a city here in my state that requires all adults over the age of 21 to own a gun, to live in that city you must own one. Since this law was enacted they have had no murders, no armed robberies, the convenience stores in town have not been robbed in 12 years, drug use is down to 11% of the total population, simple house breaking is down to 4% a year, violence is almost non-existant. The other benefit has been the graduation rates for high school has increased to an astonishing 90+%. This is not a joke and has been on the news channels reporting on this success.

And in case you didn’t know we go to those countries for a reason, usually because of humanitarian relief or because some idiot dictator has decided he wants to take on the US. We are still, even with our problems expanding, a great nation and people who come here legally and use the benefits of living in this country have the same right I do to complain. However, many immigrants I know value this country so much they are quick to chastize those that complain and sound like uneducated ungrateful people. Go back where you came from if you weren’t born here. See if you like living there for awhile.

By the way, my son has been a police officer for many years and tells me he has never seen an armed robber use a gun registered to the robber. It’s usually a stolen gun or an underground obtained gun. While it is true some people use a gun to kill and attack others own the weapons it is usually a very disturbed individual. Restricting gun ownership and gun use legally will not stop criminals. If you think it will than you are living in something other than the real world. How do you think dictators gain possession of a country, the citizens are disarmed first.

        • Jeffery Wells

I love these people who say stuff like”go back where you came from”, why don’t you go move to a Socialist Country. We are here were we came from. We are not changing laws of this great Country of ours. If you don’t like the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, or living in a country that people have the right to defend themself, then move. We are not going anywhere. We don’t have a problem with our rights. We do have a problem with people that do!

I here Iran or Iraq need to people.

        • Amy Emerson

Wow! Where do you live? Sounds like my kinda town!!!

      • TEXASTEA

*Well, Eric, I don’t know where you have come from, but if it’s better there, why are you here? The truth is that if our soldiers hadn’t trampled on some of those countries, you would be writing this in German or Japanese. If we hadn’t trampled on Iraq in 1991, the Iraqis would still be raping Kuwaiti women, and murdering their men! If we hadn’t gone into Iraq in 2003, Saddam and his sons would still be having rape rooms and frequent murders, and women would not be allowed to educate themselves. In this violent world, Americans have taken a position to help those who are oppressed, and have sacrificed their lives to do so. No other country has done that except our allies, because there is no financial gain in it for them.
So understand, Eric, that these brave men and women die in combat for no other reason than to make people free, no doubt the reason you and your family are not where you were born. while the Russians built a wall to keep people in East Germany, we have to build a wall to keep people out Hopefully you understand why thta is,
And last, Americans are able to have guns, under the second amendment, for a reason, or two. First, for self-protction. Maybe you should research Suzanna Gratia Hupp on youtube.com, who watched her parents murdered in a restuarant while her handgun was outside in her truck. Second, guns are for citizens to protect themselves against a government of tyranny. Right now, our government is trying to expand its power, and are looking for ways to take our guns away. Think about that, and remember, Hitler’s first act in germany was to confiscate the guns of private citizens. Remember that a government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take everything you have. *

        • Eric Bischoff

          TexasTea,
I am staying right where I am. I have made my life here and I am not going anywhere. Your childish replies are just that.

Hitler did not confiscate the guns in germany. More erroneous crap.
Our soldiers are brave but they never really know why they are doing what they are doing. We constantly lie to them. They are used and abused and thrown away when they come back. Support our troops is a disgrace from a wimpy hypocritical citizenry who are ashamed of sending their sons and daughters to die for worthless cause. If they really cared they would ensure that they are helped with PTSD, Suicides, Gulf war syndrome, Agent orange diseases, homelessness, bankruptcies, high divorce rates. Ask these vets how supported they feel.
And no we would not be speaking German. The american ruling class helped fund the Nazis. By the time we finally got involved with Germany they were almost done.
The Japanese attacked us because we had declared war on them with naval blockades in their own territory. We now know that the govt knew all about the impending attack and conveniently let it happen. The best part of the fleet just happened to not be at Pearl Harbor.
All walls are stupid and a complete waste of time. The German wall. the Israely wall, and someday we’ll look at the Mexico wall and wonder what the hell were we thinking.
You obviously know nothing about middle eastern politics and history. Saddam was our dictator puppet. He was our fault and we lost control of him. But Iraqis were the most educated and best society in the area. They had the best healthcare, a rich treasury of ancient art and museums. They had a priceless collection of wheat seeds going back 800 years. Gone stolen (more than likely by Monsanto).

Do your home work, read something else besides comic books and govt propaganda. You really don’t know much. It is your responsibility to educate yourselves. This site is full of ignoramus who think they know everything but are easily proven wrong.

And I don’t give a crap about your guns. Buy more guns, shoot yourselves, I could care less. It makes for a wonderful enlightened society.

Ignorance is not an excuse or a legal defense.

          • Felix

            Eric,
you are a MORON… a BAFFUN, who does not know didley… Yes Hitler did not confiscated guns in Germany, he just did not alllow it, so was STALIN, so were any socialist/communist dictators… do you see cubans having guns??? Time will come and you may be will understand it… may be not, but it is people liek you who should never be allow to come here… For you being here for 40 years and not to become a part of US it is a SHAME!!!

          • Mike

            Eric,
Listen pal, stay-go, I don’t care what you do. What I do care about is this. As a 26-year Air Force vet, I’ve been to those places, seen those things and knew exactly why I was there. The reasons you ask, well first to aid those who were wronged. Second, to help them have a life of freedom similar to mine. Third, because I love my COUNTRY and will do whatever it asks of me. And fourth, now listen good, because my parents taught me to defend the weak, have faith in GOD and always try to do the right thing. As hard as it is for me not to hunt you down and kick your sissy boy, un-American F#$%ing @$$, I won’t because you have the right to your opinion. So, if I honestly believe that it’s your right to speak your mind, spew your liberal left winged rhetoric and believe whatever screwed up belief you have, leave us to our beliefs too. We (true Americans) believe in the right to defend ourselves against all enemies “Foreign or Domestic”. I will always do just that, the end! Why don’t you just leave the fighting and thinking to real men. We’re sick of this idiotic passivism and Holier than Thou because I know better than you crap. Idiot, for as educated as you sound, you know nothing. You’re a dreamer living in a dream world. Wake up, if it weren’t for people like the ones who are opposing your view, you’d be speaking German, Japanese or even Chinese by now. So, just say thank you and shut up.

          • Kim Everhart

ERIC. If you read an UN-Doctored history book, you will find that HITLER did in fact march through Austria. Town by town there were records of ALL guns owned. German soldiers took these records door to door & collected the private arms, thus rendering these people defenseless. Hooray for registration.

      • Paul Rusch

I see you are one of those special ones like Eric, and Republican and ………. You Jimmy Carter/Clinton/Obama types are why we have problems. You want to talk when we should be taking care of business. The upcoming second Korean war is a prime example. We should have taken care of that some time ago. But instead Clinton wanted to talk and offer economic aid. They the N. Koreans just laughed and scrached all the way to the bank and then bought and developed more military capability. Their starving people got zip! Same with Iran, all you want to do is talk. Pull your heads out of that warm moist place you keep it and get a grip of reality. What you see going on today is why we have a military. Unfortunately they are the ones who suffer and have to fight to clean up the messes that your kind of politics causes. If Isreal decides to take pre-emtive action on Iran, I for one congradulate them for doing what needs to be done to preclude greater loss of life in the future. The only reason a jerk like you is able to sit there and talk smack like you do is because some one made a decision to take action which in the end saved your bacon. You need to be slapped accross the face you disrespectful slug. Some one sacrificed some or all of their life for you and all you do is talk foolish in gratitude. Shame on you!!!

        • Eric Bischoff

          Paul,
you are not very observant. I have never voted for any of the people you mention. I would have wanted different candidates. I am much more progressive that that. Unfortunately my choices have never lead this country so there is no way in hell you can blame us for anything.

80% of Americans have never had a passport. This country knows nothing about the rest of the world and they know absolutely nothing about foreign policy and what their govt has been up to. If they did, they would revolted long ago.

Yes this is America land of the free and land where I should be able to have a completely different opinion or view or education or experience and I should not have to listen to name calling from ignorant people. We should be able to have conversations and learn from each other.

And for your information, I make a lot of money and I pay more in taxes than a lot of people make in a year. That gives me the right to express my feelings about our misguided and corrupt politics.

If I am so wrong why are we in this giant mess, why are we bankrupt morally and fiscally?

Ghandi talked and peacefully overthrew the British empire.

          Shame on who?

        • Paul Rusch

To Eric Bischoff in response to reply on June2nd @9:02am.

So It looks as if I flipped over the right rock and their was Eric the belly crawling liberal. You would never have voted for any of the people I mentioned because you are much more progressive than that! Well then, just who would you have voted for? Hitler, Stalin, Kimjung il, who? You mean to say that Obama isn’t enough for you? It appears from your statement that we are very fortunate that your choices were never elected. Because we would probably be embroiled in a civil war again if they had. You think that we can not blame you for anything simply because your people were not elected? I think it is you who are not very observent there bunky. We have a bunch of libertal Chicago kooks and crooks up there in Washington D.C., put there by ignorant people such as you, many who now realize that they made a major mistake by buying into their campaign trash about change.
You say that I can not blame “us” referring to you and others like you for anything. It looks as if you can’t stand on your own feet with out leaning on other’s to try to bolster you point of view. Typical Liberal procedure. Your gutless on your own.
80% of this country has never had a passport. Sooooooooo! The fact that you have doesn’t impress me at all. I am a history major. I’ve been to other parts of the world while serving MY country. If you used your passport to travel to places where you could undermine MY country, and then complain about MY country, which took you in and gave you a new life, why did you bother coming back? You are a TRAITOR! You can’t even stand on your own feet with out help and you profess to be knowledgeable about foriegn policy. You say that if we knew what MY country does with regard to foriegn policy, we would have revolted long ago. You seem to think that you know what MY country has been doing, so why haven’t you revolted? Long Ago? Oh I forgot, that in reality, you are a gutless milksop liberal and you have found that not very many people buy into your trash in MY country. So do us all a favor and leave since you are not happy. But then again, I don’t think other country’s want you either. They would probably terminate you, and that is why you sought the protections of a country who you thought would protect your worthless carcass. So where did you come from, what country? They aparently didn’t want you either it seems. Your homeland would have probably just put you in prison or shot you, and so ran for cover in MY country where you felt you could hide and where there is a certain amount of tolerance for your kind. Where a lot of fine people have died so that you would be able to have the right to spew your liberal trash. Well, here’s a news flash, I don’t mind that you immigrated here, because we take people from other country’s here in My country and give them the opportunity to live free. But when they turn and spit on me, as you are, then I feel that you have worn out your welcome and should leave in view of the fact that you are not happy here. I do not have a problem with what My country does with regards to foriegn policy. MY country’s world policies have revealed a lot of threats to me as a natural born United States citizen and as a result, those threats have been and are being dealt with.
Yes you are right, this is America and it is a free country, and because it is a free country, you are able to have your opinions as miss guilded as they are, and along with that goes the opinions of those who are in opposition to you and your sick ideology. Just because someone does not agree with a sick liberal such as your self doesn’t make them ignorant and yes you do have to listen to it just as you want me to listen to you ,name calling or not. Thats why we are free and you simply can not grasp the beauty of that freedom.
Yes it is true that we are able to have conversations and learn from each other. I have been listening to your kind for many years and have never said that I shouldn’t have to listen. You say we should learn from each other, well….. That is why I respond to your liberal dribble, because I listen to you and your ideology turns my stomach . You say that you shouldn’t have to listen to name calling, but then you call me ignorant,…Go figure.
I have learned all that I need to learn about liberalism and I choose to opt out thank you! You can stick your liberalism where the sun don’t shine and where your thought processing center appears to be.
Also, It appears that you are somewhat insecure. I never asked you for imformation on how much money you make or how much you pay in taxes. If you pay a large share of your income in taxes, thank you for not avoiding that responsibility as others of your ideology have and are. It also does not matter who pays what in taxes, we all have an equal right to express our opinions even if we do not pay taxes at all. Thats part of living in a free country, again something you do not seem to understand. Your paying what ever you pay does not mean that others should be muzzled. I have a natural God given right to MY opinion in MY country which you were given when you immigrated
here to MY country. I served MY country, what have you done except complain about its foriegn policy, government, citizens rights to disagree with you, and taxes. I guess you really don’t get it.
You talk about corrupt politics. Your right, it appears that it is your political ideology which employ’sthose tactic’s most when they are losing the race. Fear not though, 2010 is just around the corner and this country is fed up with the liberals. It took 5 short months to awaken the sleeping giant in this case and your kind has left him with a resolve for real CHANGE.
You ask me if you are wrong, then why are we bankrupt morally and fiscally.
Morally, it is because your kind always wants parental rights denied, homo- sexuals to be married and accepted as normal behavior in spite of Biblical teachings on the subject and much more to numerous to list. Fiscally because, your kind wants me to pay for people who invade my country with all sorts of social programs, like wel-fare, medical, housing, social security which they never paid into, and again much more. This behavior has all but ruined some states financially( California for one). These people are crimminals. They entered MY country illegally, and you complain about your tax bill…..Hmmmmmm …… Go figure Eric.
You talk about Ghandi over throwing his government. Is that what you think should happen to My Government, the one you ran and hide behind when you came here?
Then you ask the question “Shame on who?” I have the answer you are seeking….. SHAME ON YOU !!!!!

Long live the SECOND AMENDMENT and THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION and AMERICA. The Home of the BRAVE and FREE. Those who disagree, get out and go back to where you came from. Your free to come here, but if you become unhappy then you are free to leave just the same.

      • Steve Anderson

yeah rite, i guess if you are that unhappy with us you should find somewhere else to enjoy your liberalism maybe england heck even the cops don’t carry guns there just the criminals(and even those poor soul’s are screwed by you liberals) . do you really think that these cowards would have tried gunning people down if there was a very good chance they would be armed. you liberals need to stop being so concerned about the poor misunderstood criminals. It’s never thier fault they are alway’s INNOCENT! I’d like to hear just one thing that liberals have been in favor of that was good for any one who actually pay’s taxes. thanx for nothing and don’t let the door hit you on your way to the airport.

        • Paul Rusch

Get’em Steve! Just look at any or every state the Liberals have touched, They all are complete messes and they think we want that from them because they know whats best for us and want to do our thinking for us. Like the saying goes: I’ll cling to my religion and guns and they can keep the change.”

      • Carol

        strong text
All of this really scares me to think there could be weapons on a school campus is such a terrible idea I can’t even think of the different ways and that is a fact.

        • Paul Rusch

Pull your head out of the sand and face reality.

      • Kim Everhart

Well the stats are now in, like them or not. The FBI has been keeping stats on violent crimes now for over 30 years to PROVE how dangerous guns are. Alas, murder rates are at a 30 year low. Homicide is at a 30 year low. This of course couldn’t be because more states now allow personal protection than EVER before. Let’s make up some more reasons personal protection is bad!

    • Pat

" allows students who are at least 21 years old and **licensed to carry** concealed handguns "

If the police are confused, maybe they could look at the little ID card that says a person is licensed to carry. A person with a CC License is supposed to offer it along with your drivers license any time an officer asks for your ID. That way the poor officer won’t be confused.

How in the hell do idiots like that get elected? As for his 12-pack solution, well, how in the hell do idiots like that get elected?.

      • Carol

This can’t be real children are going to allowed to carry weapons?

I would be scared straight to go to college or any other school there and I would pull my child out of a college there as well that is if I had a child going to school there and that is a fact.

I think that Texas’ economy is really going to hurt and that is probably they didn’t even think about.

MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE GOING TO COLLEGE IN TEXAS ALWAYS AS I AM SURE HE WILL!!!

        • Felix

          Dear Carol,
what about all those kids… who carrie the guns illegaly and have a bad intentions??? How would you control them??? They are not gonna tell you they have a gun…

    • Valverde

Yes, we here in Texas think that Rodney Ellis is a screwball, however not all of us can vote on him, so I guess we have to put up with him. Only the people in his district like him and his district is a high crime district.

      • http://personalliberty.com Rudy

As another Texan, I have to ask: where the hell is rodney Ellis’s district?

As for the concealed Carry License, a little FYI: The background checks and the license are expensive, unbelievably in-depth, and extensive. you have to be squeaky-clean to even get your CCL. You have to pass safety and responsibility training courses AND qualify in accuracy tests just like Law enforcement agents do. Not everybody qualifies the first time, and some may never qualify. It takes practice, and that means time and money. When your license is up for renenwal, you have to qualify AGAIN.

After you qualify the first time, you wait up to 4 months for the background check to be completed, and you are not permitted to carry a concealed gun until you recive the license. It used to take only a few weeks, but the current backlog is now up to 4 months, and no background checks are expedited.

You ever screw up, even a little bit, and your CCL is revoked. You don’t get it back.

Bottom line: no idiots or public menaces are ever allowed to carry. And we all live in peace here AFAIC. As a 48 yr. old native Houstonian, I can tell you that crime has steadily declined here over my lifetime, and especially in the last 10 years, thanks to common-sense laws -like the CCL provision.

As Thomas Jefferson said: “An armed society is a polite society”. Look it up!

  • John

As someone who lost somebody dear to me at Virginia Tech and as someone who is going to graduate school at UT Austin, I cannot help but abhor this decision by the state legislature. Those who say that allowing people to carry guns on campus are absolutely misguided and I pray that this bill will be stopped in the courts. I am helping to organize a student organization to force a court battle to lobby the university board of governors to not allow guns on campus at least here at UT. I pray that I am successful so we do not have a repeat of what happened at Virginia Tech or at UT in the 1960′s when Charles Wittman started shooting people with a high powered rifle from the tower. Christians need to stand up and oppose this bill!

    • Rebecca

      John:
Sorry about your friend that was lost at VT. Unfortunately, a gun law like Texas has passed is something that could help ward off these types of attacks. Had there been someone legally concealing, they could have stopped the crazed gunman. Our problem is not with law abiding citizens who want to protect themselves and others. Personally, I was opposed to guns for many years until about a few years ago. I am working on obtaining my concealed carry permit and although I doubt I will need to tote my gun to my sons preschool parking lot; when I do travel alone or with my children, I know that I can protect all of us if needed. Which mind you, I hope I never have to do! Recently I read in a book that guns are not the problem in schools … years ago, boys would bring their guns to school and check them in, so that after school they could go hunting. Our problem today is the deterioration of marriage and the family unit. Boys need fathers, strong men who can model the good behavior, morals and integrity that boys are to follow. Most men in prison abhor their fathers or don’t even know them. There is an anger brewing in our young men today ….. Christians need to take note of that and keep our families strong and working. Christians need to stand up and oppose divorce and split families. Again, most if not all of the school shooters are not law abiding citizens that were armed with a concealed carry permit and decided to just go take people out because they legally had a gun.

    • Cathy

Sir, in all due respect, why do you bring up Christianity? What does that have to do with this subject?

If one of the students at Virginia Tech had a gun that fateful day, the gunman would have been stopped dead in his tracks. You anti-gun people will never understand… When guns go away, here come the criminals, who will ALWAYS find a way to have a gun.

Check out Switzerland. There it is mandatory to own a gun. Crime rate? ZERO. Duh…

      • c c

Good Girl Cathy, it is so hard to believe that so many people in this country think a gun is a problem. Lay it on a table unless some idiot points it and pulls the trigger it will not KILL NOBODY BY ITS SELF. I quess i can blame my pencil and pen every time i misspell something, Stick up for your second amendment rights.

        • Paul Rusch

Yea and the Liberals think they should do our thinking for us. What a hoot! They have no common sense so what makes them think they are qualified to think for us? Long live the Second Amendment and the U.S. Constitution and intelligent Americans who will not buy the liberal dribble.

      • Sylvan Malis

Eric, John, and anyone else who think that guns are the problem:
Most of you cite incidents where a gunman created a situation where there was loss of life and then make the claim that it was the cause of too many guns in the society. You say the words but never back up your claim with facts that because there are guns the tragedy happened. You never cite the FBI or any other competent organization with proof of your assertions.

Let me give you a source of factual information on the true statistics from the FBI about guns in the society. Read “More Guns Less Crime” by the author John R. Lott Jr.

After reading this book if you still believe that taking away guns from the people instead of making sure that every responsible adult has the legal right carry a gun then you are intellectually dishonest! Either that or you are just plain stupid.

    • Robin from Indiana

John… I am a Christian and I support this bill. I don’t like guns, never have, but as I see what is happening around me I believe that I will be looking to buy a gun in the near future and I will also apply for a conceal to carry permit. If anyone is worried about me abusing my gun and killing at random, it’s not going to happen. However, if my family was threatened by someone with a gun, I would not hesitate to kill to keep my family from being killed. Being a Christian doesn’t enter into this equation. Self preservation is just human nature. Guns do not kill people; people kill people. It’s an old saying, but still relevant.
I agree with the post that says most angry young men do not have good solid father figures to learn from. It’s not guns that is the problem. Children that go through life unguided and not taught are the ones that bring about the issues when they find the wrong people to adhere to.

      • Brett

Robin – kudos on wanting to get a weapon and a conceal and carry permit! Congrats! I hope you choose a nice weapon! (You deserve it!) ;-)

    • Valverde

Oh, yeah. I’m sure that UT students will be rushing into the tower to pick off students below with their handguns Even a good marksman can’t hit a target the size of a cantelope from 50 yards. Believe me, it is very, very difficult. Charles Whitman was using a rifle with a scope when he went on his rampage. Big difference, and guess what, it was a man with a handgun who shot him.

    • Brett

      John,

Sorry to hear about your loss!

Let me ask you… when all of this was going on…. where was your friend’s gun?!?!?

    • Brett

BTW: I am a Christian… and I SUPPORT this Bill! It’s about as smart as smart gets!

Remember, our Founding Fathers were VERY pro-gun and MANY of them were Christians….

Stop using your hurt and anger and start to THINK through things a little bit more…

    • Carol

I pray for all students no a days no matter in Grade School, Middle School and especially High School.

Where there are such large gathering and so many different people having different problems at home.

The new world is so very scarey and that is a fact.

To change the subject just a little but not a lot.

Do you know what it means when you see sneakers up on the electrical lines?

Well if you have started seeing a lot of crime in your area and you wonder what is going on look up and if you see sneakers hanging off your electrical lines that means that gangs are marking your area to commit crime.

Call your electric company and ask them to remove them right away.

The crime on my friends block who is right in front of me was on up serge and the cops came to her if she knew anything about what happened and she said “No”.
He looked up and saw the shoes and told her that means “gangs” are marking your block. I had them taken down and the crime stopped just as it started.

Then all of sudden it started again and she looked up and there were another pair of sneakers hanging off the electrical lines. I had them removed again but a couple days later there were another pair thrown up there again I called the power company and again they removed them.

I think that cops should inform the population in general about such things so they can call their power company and have them removed don’t you?

  • s c

Anyone who cares about people understands that life is precious. At the same time, adults must understand that life is not kind or safe. To surrender your 2nd Amendment constitutional right to have and bear arms because it “sounds” good or “feels” right is beyond illogical. Put the matter to a test. Cars, vans and trucks kill people every day. If vehicles are this dangerous, we must DEMAND that vehicles can’t be made or sold. According to Peter Pan/Mary Poppins, that will ‘solve’ the problem, and life will be beautiful. This is the real world. and it is not safe. Adults can’t afford to think or act like children, no matter how great the temptation is. We
live in a dangerous world. We do not live in Never-Never Land.

    • Paul Rusch

s c I think you are a wise person and have an understanding about the importance of the Second Amendment. But when you right about objects such as cars, trucks, vans, firearms, be sure not to give the objects a live personality like when you said “Cars ,Trucks, and Vans kill people everyday”. By themselves, they are not dangerous, but add the human factor and they could be.

  • Eric Bischoff

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Leave it to Americans and their overly litigious mentality to always try and find loopholes or corrupt language for such purposes. And let’s not forget out of context sound bites.

And that’s how we get from the 2nd amendment to Texas Approves Gun Bill.

I personally interpret free state as free from any oppressive federal govt. Therefore with that logic, the right to bear arms to defend ourselves from them should allow for more modern arms. Forget concealed handguns, why couldn’t we have tanks and nuclear weapons. Why should they have a monopoly on them? They have a unfair advantage. How are we to compete with them?

So what’s next? High school, kindergarten, after all you don’t want to discriminate! And now there is a precedent.

    In God We Trust
    Now Pass The Ammunition

    • Brett

I don’t see any loopholes in the 2nd Amendment. It’s purpose is to protect the people from the Government. It’s that simple! And what is SO HARD to understand about the words “KEEP” and “BEAR”? I’ll spot you a dictionary if you need it….. (BTW: “Bear” means to “have on you.”)

    • 13th Gen. American

Yes school age kids should be protected. BY THE TEACHERS with a gun. OH YA AND back in the day, not so long ago kids did have guns. Lots of them. Boys of 9-10 plus. They were shown how to use it properly to defend their home and hunt. Mostly because back in the day there were bad guys then too and less liberal nutjubs impeeding their right to defend themselves. Also if someone broke into your house and got shot or hurt they went to jail and the shooter got a pat on the back for doing the right thing. NOW the bad guys sue the homeowner for getting hurt while trying to hurt them. OH and how about that teen girl up north who was shown how to handle a gun properly and 2 illegals broke into her home and went after her and she shot them both! She hid in the bedroom and when the first guy broke into the door she shot him dead and then the other one in the neck. Without a gun SHE would be the one dead. The world is getting crazier but all this take God out of school and Government and the such is causing it all.

      • http://personalliberty.com Rudy

We grew up with guns, starting with a BB gun at around 9. Our kids are raised doing the same. We spend a lot of time with our parents and Grandparents (family unit), and this includes fishing and hunting. We all know right from wrong as a result, and understood the value of life -as well as the consequence of death- by hunting and fishing. We fed our families and know how to help our fellow man -not how to hurt or kill them!

The fact that God and Family is missing in so many lives these days is IMHO a major factor in the making of criminals of ordinary kids gone astray. So simple and obvious, but oh so hotly contested… I think History bears this out if you only look at the differences over the last 50 years.

        • Paul Rusch

I think you have something there Rudy.

    • Paul Rusch

      bone head !!

      • Paul Rusch

The bone head comment was for Eric, not you Rudy.

    • Paul Rusch

Eric, go see your doctor quickly. Have someone take you in his office because its obvious that you can’t see where your going with your head stuck so far up your ass.
Have the person who takes you there tell the doctor that you can’t seem to get your head out of your ass and that you will need to have a plexiodomy performed on your stomach.
This procedure is performed by making a rectangular opening in your stomach area and then inserting and sewing a sheet of plexiglass ( clear plastic) in place which will help you to see where you are going, with your head stuck up your ass.

  • Springer

John, I offer my sincere condolences to you and the families of all who died in that horrible act at VT.
But to you and Eric, the point I’m trying to make, and I hope I make this as clear as possible for you to understand, is that with law abiding citizens, age 19-120, that understand and master the use of a firearm, situations like VT, Columbine and countless other tragedies, could have been stopped with the fewest casualties.
Nobody can tell me that if a student, trained and proficient in the use of a firearm, would not have made a difference in any of those tragic events. The problem is people start yelling and screaming “mayhem will break out”, “misguided solutions”, “innocent lives will be lost”, etc., etc., until there will be nobody left to protect the innocent in those situations.
    Here’s another scenario:
You and I are in a class together on a college campus. Our classmates are all studying when a deranged gunman crashes into the classroom. I am the only one there with a concealed carry permit, therefore, am armed. As soon as the first shot is fired from the gunman, everyone panicks and runs for the back of the room, people falling over eachother in the process. I, having crouched behind one of the fallen desks, now have my weapon in my hand, ready. The gunman walks over to you, where you’ve fallen in the confusion and intial push to flee, and points his weapon at your head. I take aim, and drop the gunman with one shot to his head. Only 2 or three students are killed or injured instead of the entire class. YOU get to go home to your family because I was there with my weapon and was trained to use it properly.
So, Eric, just why did you come to this country? What drew you here?
Because it is the Land of the Free? And just why is it the Land of the Free?
Because it is the Home of the Brave! Brave men and women who have died protecting that freedom! And you know why this country has not been invaded in a hostile takeover? BECAUSE THE CITIZENS ARE ARMED AND CARRY FIREARMS DAILY!
I hope I’ve explained this simple enough for you to understand. I just don’t think I can make it any plainer. Law abiding citizens with firearms are an asset, NOT a liability, to Freedom!

    • Brett

Our just having a gun mentality works! People feel even the potential THREAT of retaliation….

“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass” – Admiral Isoroku Yamanoto WWll

  • Cathy

The true meaning of the second amendment is for American citizens to defend ourselves against a tyrannical government, you know, like the one we have now…

I’m thinking of moving to Texas. :)

    • George d.o.b. 1926

Thanks Cathy you have exactly right. I would move there too but my age prevents me from going. If only Texas and some of the other conservative states would organize a Constitutional Convention maybe we could straighten out this country.

  • Harald

    Hi All,
I’m from Austria and I’m legal here in the greatest country on GOD’s earth, and I really belief that it still is, beside all those indications that the USA is moving in the same irresponsible welfare state direction as Europe has over the last 25 years.
To the gun law, I can only congratulate. We had two horrible shootings in High schools in Germany. After the first shooting the politician jump to action and made gun ownership more restrictive and it happened again. Please understand that there is no other way to stop sick or criminal minds from wrong doing than using equivalent tools. Even in UK where private ownership of guns is illegal, crime rate is skyrocketing. If you disarm the law abiding people you automatically increase the killing rate of the criminals and mind sick people. That’s proven right since thousands of years. And when you could let disappear all weapon from the face of the earth, men would find a way to kill just as Kain did with Abel.
    Harald

    • Brett

Brilliant! Thank you for your valuable perspective!

    • 13th Gen. American

Hey Harald, Welcome to America! Now your someone we love. Came here for what America stands for and wants to keep it that way. Have a little chat with Mr. “Ive been here for 44 years.” He could stand to here it from another newbe.

  • Nina

You can not expect the police to protect you or save your life or the lives of your children or loved ones. They would dearly love to but they can not be everywhere at once. Thankfully we have a second amendment to our constitution that allows citizens to protect themselves by carrying firearms. This country was founded by armed fathers (and sometimes mothers) who had the courage to step up and shoot if necessary to protect those they love. This day and age we need to be armed more than ever since liberal judges can not keep rapists and murderers in prison or refuse to do so, yet sadly parents aren’t like the people who founded this country, they are far more likely to sit and wait on the police and die in the process, as proven time and again. No longer is learning to shoot and hunt a passage of age. Yet this is a blindness to the reality around us. My daughter will soon be off to college. She will have a handgun and she will know how to use it and when to use it.

    • Paul Rusch

I agree and Thank you for helping your daugther to not be a victim.

  • cloudclown

What kind of dimwit would attempt to draw parallel with the booze bit statement? I don’t know if this is simply leftist leanings, a lack of just good-ole-common-sense, of some socialistic nature or just plain stupid. If you want proof of how CCPermits hold down crime rates in a given number of states just take a look at a number of state’s crime rates before CCPermits and after. (Kentucky example), others and statistics are available). Also take a look at what happens to crime rates when the civilian population (other countries, Australia maybe) is/are stripped of their weapons on the home front. Again! Our gray matter has allowed us to understand, to make judgements and to take action all, in behalf of a free, productive, and safe society. We should accomplish those things which will not allow our life and living to be comprimised.

    • Paul Rusch

A liberal, socialist, progressive, commi, pinko, pantywaist, weak kneed bleeding heart, tree hugging anti-American Dummy is the kind of dimwit who would say stuff like that when they can’t win an arguement any other way.

  • Nina

Springer..claps Thank you for your explanation. I don’t remember which school had the athlete that tackled the killer who had shot the teacher and others. But that guy was so incredibly brave, yet had he been armed he could have saved many more lives. We have to get some backbone people and stop candycoating reality. This is not a sitcom with the gay guy dressing funny, this is your life. The harsh reality is that not only are YOU not safe neither are your children and you need to have the courage to protect them. Well actually sales of firearms and ammunition have skyrocketed so a lot of brave Americans are getting the picture.

  • Nina

Cloudclown, So true! I live in Montana where EVERYONE and the dogs are armed to the teeth and I promise you we don’t have the crime rates that other folks in parts of the country have to suffer with. The criminals know what will happen if they try. We also eat deer meat here and think their antlers make great lamps. laughs

  • SumOleTexan

Sorry we have to have these spastic, reflexive, nail-biting reactions from the left so much these days. It’s embarrassing. The public schools have certainly turned a lot of heads away from reality and towards Utopian la-la land. In case you haven’t heard, twerps, life gets hazardous out there once in a while. Your momma and the police aren’t always there to back you up when bad people get in your face. What are you gonna do about that? Be a victim, beg for mercy, or take a shot at surviving? If it’s the former, you have my sympathy. If it’s the latter, you have a decision to make about what is the most effective means of deterring or stopping an aggressor.
Fancy fist-work? Knife? Club? Hey, maybe if you think a lot of yourself and want to go with the most statistically effective way to keep your skin in one piece, you might even opt for a darn gun. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Just getting through the day with a reasonable assurance that some mugger, rapist, psycho-animal won’t cut your life short, and leave your spouse lonely and your kids hungry? A lot of us would like to live in denial and ignore the fact that they’re out there. Fine and dandy. To each his own. And there are those who get the willies thinking the government might bully them around one day, and prefer not to think about it. Like it’s never happened before. OK. Don’t. If you can ignore all that and get away with it, I’m happy. But if you can’t, and it happens, what on earth are you going to do about it? Not a whole lot if you don’t have the means to defend yourself. Isn’t it better to err on the safe side and be prepared? We’re not going to be able to do if for ya, you know. Maybe you ought to consider the possibility that you actually have some responsibility here to keep civilization running, and depend a little less on the rest of us for your security. And quit whining at us, for pete’s sake. Most of us have been running around with guns since we were kids and haven’t done one little thing with them that should make you nervous. Get over it.

  • Paul Rusch

When are you anti-gun idiots going to get it, It is NOT the object that kills people (ie: guns, cars, booze etc.etc.) . These things are simply a means to an end. Banning anything that can be used by a nut case as a weapon to commit a crime ( thats why they call them nut cases, crimminals ) is not going to stop the crime. Anything can be used as a weapon to injure or kill another person. I constantly hear things on the network news like “Joe Blow was killed today by a gun”. Now how foolish does that sound? They try to suggest that the gun or other weapon used, has a mind of its own and decided to go kill Joe Blow all by it self.
If you want to stop crime and killing, you will have to ban literally everything known to man. I’m sure you know that the first murder in history was committed with a club, and not by a club.
Quit blamming the object and put the blame where it belongs, on the individual who committed the crime. Stop blamming society for why this person choose to commit the crime, and either lock’em up for good or send them to death row depending on what the severity of the crime is.
Stop your incessant whinning about the rights of crimminals. They forefit those rights when they CHOOSE to cease being a member of a civil society and commit crimes.
Should we be allowed to carry a concealed weapon for protection? You bet we should. The bad guys don’t know when and where they will run into an armed citizen and thus might just think twice before committing a crime.
Should commercial pilots carry concealed weapons, students on college campuses who are qualified to carry concealed weapons, or any one who has met the requirements to carry a concealed weapon, be allowed to do so when and where they choose to exercise that right, You bet they should. You will find that when this is made known, crime seems to slow way down. Where this right is suppressed, crime rates are way up. Don’t act like this is not true, look up the stats yourself and you will find the truth. The FBI monitors this on a constant basis. The imformation is there, and all you need do, is open your eyes, and ears and mind to the truth.
Bottom line is — If you don’t want to exercise your Constitutional right to defend yourself, then by all means, you are free not to. But if I choose to exercise that right, then leave me alone. You go your way and conduct your life your way and I do the same and you stay out of my business. I beleive, “That an armed society is a polite society”. ” A citizen who shirks his/her duty to contribute to the security of his/her community is little better then the crimminal who theatens it.”

  • Paul Rusch

Another thought. It is you who is ultimately responsible for your life and that of your family and in some cases others around you. You may not realize it but, the police are NOT required to protect you. Yes you heard me right. The Supreme court has ruled on this. Police are not required to stand by you and save your baqcon 24/7/365. They are simply a deterent to crime and if they catch a perp, they can run him/her through the justice system and try to get them off the street if the bleeding heart liberals and ACLU will let them do their job. Again, they are not required to save you. Also, there is simply not enough of them.
So who does that leave?? Hmmmmmmmmm? Let me think about that for a minute.
Oh yes, that leaves me and you who are responsible for our selves and our families and personal security. Yes the police will and should be called (ie: 911 ) but more often then not, what was going to happen has already happened before they arrive and all the police end up being are janitors.

  • http://www.xanga.com/STEVENPILL Steven Mark Pilling

Well… I’ve never commented here before! I’m not surprised, though, to find Eric here with his usual Paulista message.

It should be noted that the bill limits the permit to licensed carriers above the age of 21. That would limit on-campus carriers to faculty, graduate students and the seniormost undergraduates. It wouldn’t be a case of some pimple-faced kid carrying a firearm for the sake of machismo. In previous tragedies, it was teachers and older students who were forced to present their bodies as human shields to allow the younger kids a chance to escape. Now, they have the chance to defend students and themselves on more equal terms.

It’s a hard fact that criminals, no matter how motivated, tend to commit their crimes when law enforcement is absent. The “why” of that hardly requires explanation! But it’s likewise a fact that, time and again, convicted criminals have stated that their prime deterrance to committing a crime was the possiblility that their intended victim(s) might be armed.

Every public or private facility (schools in particular) that display a “gun free zone” sign is, in fact, inviting tragedy. Criminals are notoriously adverse to obeying the law! All that sign means to them is “easy pickin’s inside”. And if all a facility has to offer in protection is an unarmed security guard (or even an off-duty cop- such as at Columbine H.S.) then it is essentially unprotected.

If it’s an office building and the clients wish to take the risk of being helpless in case of an armed intrusion, then that’s their own risk. But when they ordain that risk for young people in college- or for actual schoolchildren- then it’s a case of criminal negligence. As I’ve often said on my website, the highest calling of any adult is the protection, nurturement and moral guidance of children. They deserve this from us to our utmost ability. It’s what civilization itself is FOR.

As a Texan- and one who fully supported this measure- I take pride in our legislature for passing it over determined liberal opposition. I hope and pray that other states will follow our lead.

  • Marauder42

I don’t particularly like firearms, either, but that also goes for my automobile’s jack and lug wrench. Every once in a while, there are tools you must have, with sometimes undesirable consequences for not having the right tool at the right time. That applies to firearms as well.

Those of us that realize this fact must also realize another: Most of these liberals who bemoan private firearms ownership are – wittingly or not – aligned to the same people who’ve always promoted gun control: Socialists who want to take over our country without the risk of getting shot at by its inhabitants. They are in reality not the least bit concerned with the safety of the general population.

    • Paul Rusch

Its better to have the needed tools for the job and not need them, then to need them and not have them in my humble opinion.

      • Marauder42

Its better to have the needed tools for the job and not need them, then to need them and not have them in my humble opinion.

That in fact is one of life’s enduring philosophies, Paul, which I learned as a young boy growing up on a farm. I heard my old man say that many times as we were in the farm implement store trying to decide whether he needed an extra gizmo for the tractor or any of the other implements we used.

Common sense can’t be taught in a classroom.

        • Paul Rusch

Thank you, one can never be accused of having to much common sense, and your Dad was one who had his share of it and it sounds like it rubbed off on you as well. Now for the rest of the country. Hmmmmmmmmm.

  • Don Rorschach

“Texas approves gun bill ” is a great move. Rodney Ellis, the thug state representative from Houston, has a major reason to oppose allowing Texans to carrying concealed handguns on campus. Until about five years ago, his black brothers had a free pass to rob and burglarize homes because the law prohibited homeowners from legally shooting this criminal scum. When the new “home protection act” was approved by the Texas Legislature several years ago, the table turned. Now, law abiding citizens are allowed to kill the black and brown criminals who had such an easy time burglarizing and invading homes of law-abiding citizens.

However, the Texas law still left a segment of the population unable to protect themselves from armed blacks and others who entered college areas to rape, rob, and kill law-abiding students. Now, over the objection of the criminals, political thugs like Rodney Ellis, and their ilk, the law will allow college students to protect themselves from the brother thugs of representative Rodney Ellis.

No longer will only the criminals invading college areas be the only persons armed.

    Way to go Republican politicians!!!!!!

  • Paul Rusch

It is very uplifting to see that there are sensible people out there who do know the importance of self defense and their constitutional right to exercise that right. Keep it up people, because I’m sure that there are legislators from many states who are reading your comments and they are seeing that those who will or desire the right to defend themselves far outweighs those who would rather stick their heads in the sand and cowar to the bad eliments of our society. All the liberal legislators who would try to deny us our right to self defense, TAKE NOTE, we will not stand for it and we will remove you from office. If you want to be a victim you are free to be one, and until you can gaurantee me that you can protect me 100% of the time from all types of crimminal activity, then forget about trying to take my rights away because I/we refuse to be a victim because of your panty waist bleeding heart views.

  • dan marcell

this is a good law. people forget they worry about virginia tech which was terrible but forget ted bundy.bundy killed more people then the guy at virginia tech and he never used a gun to kill anybody.he romed campuses in florida finding his victoms.law enforcement knew of over 40 people he killed and believed there was over 20 more.banning guns doesnt stop murder ted bundy proved it.

  • Paul Rusch

Eric, your an idiot!! Nuff said.

  • Paul

Texas seems to be leading the way ,to the way Americans really want them, including the letter they issued to the goverment of there STATES RIGHTS
Congrads Texas now the rest of us need to follow suit
On the gun law ,here In florida viloence has been curbed GREATLY with more people carring guns legally and the areas still affected by high crime are the areas that gun ownership is small to none.
Wit the comment from the lefet wing liberal socialist that said you dont stop drinking on campus by giving out more drinks /we can see his mentality is so far liberal he cant even bring up a realistic point of counter and he actually show these people are DUMBASSES

  • Paul Rusch

Go Texas, I support you with all that I am as an American. I hope that my state of Nevada soon gets with the program. If not, Texas is looking pretty inviting. I hope they will take like minded refugee’s from other states.

  • Fritz

To John on his paragraph May 28th:

How did Charles Wittman get to the top of the University of Texas tower in the 1960′s with a high powered rifle? Elevator or walk up the stairs? Interesting.

  • Don K.

Joel Barlow, the Connecticut wit and writer, in 1792 sagely declared that a tyrant disarms his subjects to “degrade and oppress” them, knowing that to be unarmed “palsies the hand and brutalizes the mind,” with the result that people “lose the power of protecting themselves.”
The only thing to fear is BIG GOVERNMENT AND BIG BANKS!

  • Brett

Stupid people will ALWAYS be against guns! Their stupidity keeps them from thinking for themselves! Guns have NEVER killed people! It’s the people with their malicient intentions who harm people!

If someone REALLY wants to make a difference in this world, EVEN THE PLAYING FIELD and step up like Texas has so intelligently done! Allow people (who are hopefully trained) to be able to have weapons to protect themselves and their fellow students/faculty!

Now a 90 year old grandmother and an 18 year old kid can BOTH have EQUAL RIGHTS to protect themselves and their best interests!

“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds!” Albert Einstein

  • SumOleTexan

Eric, glad to see you’ve got the ideal message….now let me pick the neighborhood
you get to run your mouth about it in. Saturday night work for you?

  • John

The police are not required to protect you & your family as individuals. My vehicle was stolen & full of my property stolen, from & at my home. The perpetrator was found a couple of months later & had been driving around in the vehicle saying it was his. He was a crack addict & was apprehended leaving a crack house that the metro police were making a case on. I pressed charges & he plead down to a
misdemeanor, so was sentenced to 11mos.29days. He got out in less than 6mos. He made harassing calls to my home. I had to get a cease & desist order from a magistrate. The perps. probation officer didn’t believe me because he was playing the “poor me” card. He told the P.O. that I was calling him, writing him & inviting him to my home “to party” when he got out. I was told he had a rap sheet 3 full arms lengths long but I couldn’t see them. It would invade the privacy rights of the convict.
With all of this my girlfriend was scared (continually) that the guy would get out & come for revenge. I spoke to the sheriff of my county & the detective who worked the case & I was advised to buy a handgun. That if there was trouble it could feasibly take up to 45min for a cruiser to get to me. There were only 6 deputies that cover over 360+sq mi. I was told that the actual job of the police was not to protect the individual but as stated by law is “the protection of the community at large”. You do not have to have a permit to have a gun in your home but I went ahead & got a CCW permit, training, ongoing range training & have had it for 5yrs now. It is like insurance. You never intend to use it. You hope there is never a need for it. If you find yourself in need of protection & self defense, a gun in properly trained hands is more of a life saver than the time it would take to dial 911, & the time it would take for help to arrive. Restricting where you can carry, like all “Gun Free” zones have some of the highest gun related crimes. Gun Control is not about guns, it’s about Control. The gun control laws are a violation of the 2nd Amendment. Anyone that checks the FBI’s stat letter of approx. 5yrs ago, states that legally permitted CCW holders are 2.3% to 3% more law-abiding than the general public at large. Montana is leading the way. This law is a good step in the right direction.

  • Republican

I’m all for the 2nd amendment! However, there is a time and place for guns. Public places, schools, churches, parks, etc are not the place to be carrying weapons! Self protection is very important; having guns in your home or on your property is necessary to protect yourself ad family from the bad people. However, if the argument is people need a gun to protect themselves from the government, then the rational and logic is lost. My friend had a arsenal: AK-47′s, SKS Sniper rifles, grenades, numerous hand guns, grenades launcher over a 100,000 rounds of ammo. When the sheriff came to their property to deliver an eviction notice, he was taken out by one shot from the 15 deputies that were sent to evict them. You will not out gun the authorities. Self protection great. Protection from the government. lol

    • Paul Rusch

What? Do you expect use to buy your crap about this guy having Grenades, and what the heck is a SKS sniper rifle??An SKS was never intended to be used for snipping. It is an infantrymans weapon. The combloc countries had other, better suited weapons systems for snipping than the SKS. He had a grenade launcher too??
You man are really an ass. I’ve been around for a minute or two buddy and I am a Vietnam Vet. Who are you? Eric? or just some other nut case. Why didn’t we hear about this incident on the national news networks about when your friend attempted to take on the government and was killed by a single bullet from an officers weapon?
Why was he being evicted? Why would 15 officers be sent to evict him? I work with my county “s S.O. and we serve evictions, by our selves. If what you say is true, then it would seem that your friend was not being evicted. He was going to be arrested for possession of illegal firearms and explosives and it would have been the BATFE who would have been in on the take down who you forgot to mention in your fantasy.
No one here on this blog is trying to outgun the authorities or challenge them in any way. We are simply demonstrating to you and other narrow minded liberal dweebs what the Second Amendment ‘s purpose is in the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution and how we as patriotic citizens of this great and free country interpret it as a means of self defense from all enemies foriegn and domestic (ie; crimminals and even if necessary a tyrannical government) for the preservation of life and liberty.
I know that you just don’t get it so you resort to fiction and fantasy to try to win people who you think are like you to your ideology. Trying to spread bovine excrement all over this blog is not going to fly. Have you read any of the opinions and statements posted here? If not, I would suggest that you go get yourself a soda and a bag of popcorn and sit down and read. There is a saying in the land of reality that goes like this: ” Ignorance can be fixed, but stupid is forever”. You are leaning heavily to the STUPID side.
You need to get a real job because your future even as a fictional writter isn’t going to be sucessful. If this spell binding incident you want use to buy from you about your friend being killed during an eviction has any truth to it, you will need to back it up with verifiable information. If not, SHUT UP !!!

      • SumOleTexan

Now, now…..let’s not diminish the venerable SKS’ potential for long distance
accuracy. If you add one of those shaky lil scope mount thingies, you’re good to go for taking out barn doors at 300 yards plus any day of the week.

Hmmm….just occurred to me that somebody with a “friend” who has “a arsenal” might be accustomed to running with a pretty tough crowd. Think I’ll be laying low for a while………let things cool off some……

        • Paul Rusch

Yea, that guy struck a nerve with me. I ‘ve heard stories before, but this one is a whopper. I guess those kooks are out there, and this one is way out there. He doesn’t have a clue what the 2nd Amendment is or its purpose. I’m still somewhat amazed at this guys malfunctioning brain, but sadly I’ll just bet that he actually beleives himself. I just re-read his dribbleand I think I’ll keep it as a demonstration to others just what kind of idiots are out there.
You sir have a nice day and by the way, again, Go TEXAS
As you say, with the crowd this clown runs with, I’ll just have to stay locked and loaded in case they come down my street with their grenades and grenade launchers and such and oh yea, SKS snipping rifles. We are in Nevada, another free state.

        • Paul Rusch

His friend was killed by one shot from one of 15 cops who went to his house to serve an eviction notice………………………..I still think I must be missing something here.

      • JCfromDC

Agreed. The Lame Scream Media would’ve had a field day with something like that. My SKS was brand new (never-fired) when I got it and was not much good for driving nails over a hundred yards or so over open sights. Most good snipers use bolt actions. Granted, with a Class III (?) permit, one can get just about anything, but they’re not given out freely

    • John

Paul is right. S.O’s don’t send 15 deputies for an eviction notice.
As for their being a time or place to carry doesn’t mesh with national criminal incident reporting. Criminals don’t put forethought into “hey I’m in a public place,
a park, a school, a church, etc. I better go somewhere else to commit my crimes.
Those would typically be the best places to target as most are still “gun free zones”, in violation of the 2nd Amendment.

I’m sure the congregation of the church that made national news about a 1yr ago were grateful for the woman that was part of the congregation & also part of a 3 to 5 person group that acted as security also. When the lunatic burst in & starting firing on the congregation, he still had weapons & ammo when the woman took cover, stance & took him out. No stray rounds, one dead lunatic except for the people that were killed or wounded by him.

      • Paul Rusch

        Yet another intelligent American citizen.

    • SumOleTexan

Republican : “I’m all for the 2nd amendment!”

Oh really? With the minor exception of situations and places where it doesn’t suit your personal sense of propriety? HAHAHA What a joke! Girly-man logic taken to absurdity.
And I wouldn’t laugh off the public’s ability to deter an out of control government either. How many years do you think it will take to subdue a relative handfull of
rag-tag insurgents in Iraq or Afghanistan? There are only 1.5 million on active duty in the armed forces. If you think Baghdad was a tough nut, try a little collateral damage in Dallas.
Go have a relaxing foot bath in a bed of fire ants.
      You’ll get the picture.

  • SumOleTexan

Republican to crazed, crack-head mugger/rapist on the way to church: “I regret to inform you that it is not my policy to handle these matters out on the street. Please take my card and drop by the house later, where we can take this up in more comfortable surroundings and I will be better able to address your concerns.”

    Works fer me! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • SumOleTexan

Paul, buddy….you’re cracking me up, man! HAHAHAHAHA

Now let me get back to servicing the ICBM missle launcher on my
    Ruger mini 30…………

G.O.A. the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington, D.C.!
    Yeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaw!

    • Paul Rusch

Well, some people just irritate me with their stupidity You know the ones, your reading it to, it appears. Or maybe we are just missing something, Hmmmmmmm. NOT!
Hey, an ICBM on your mini-30 wooooow, now thats impressive. I just got done making a shoulder holster for my 106mm recoiless rifle. Thought I had something, but you-ve one uped me. Did you let Eric and Republican know? Yea! Our family are all life members of the NRA. I am a NRA certified firearms instructor and I teach CCW classes here in my town. GOA is also a very fine organization to be a member of as well as 2nd Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committe for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Talk at ya next go round guy. write again

    • Paul Rusch

Your right, GOA gives no quarter to the liberals /anti-gunners.

      • JCfromDC

Woe to us all, the NRA has endorsed Majority Leader “Dirty” Harry Reid (again). LaPierre was all huggie and kissie at the new gun range (with Harry) that taxpayers (i.e., including non-gun owners) had to help pay for. What am I paying my NRA dues for? To support the likes of REID??? Pro-gun or not, this guy is killing us without bullets!
This is worse than belonging to the UAW/AFL-CIO Mob! This is just as bad as a non-sports fan (me) having my tax money build a stadium that I’ll never see the inside of

    • Paul Rusch

Hey, I just received a whinning communication from Eric back farther up on the blog. I responded to him. Let me know if there was anything I missed. Thanks guy.

  • Doug

Interesting discussion and opinions…thought I would make a few comments.
    1) Regarding government: I am pro US Constitution…Bill of Rights and all. It was and still is the hallmark of human self-government. BUT…the words of John Adams appear to be prophetic when he said that this form of government could only work if the people feared God.
    2) Regarding people: People are not perfect…they often deceive themselves and other people. I have never known someone to attack another person whom they knew could take them down…UNLESS…they were jealous, envious, hateful to the point that judgement was impared or at war…so don’t feed me the people are basically “Good” story.
    3) Regarding Concealed Carry: I may never carry a concealed weapon or have to use one to defend my family, property, community or country…BUT I will not prohibit anyone from from doing so should they determine they have the need to do so.
    4) Regarding the answer to the world’s problems: Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father but by me. Jesus is better than anything for he is God and when he comes again he will set things right. Then the sword will be beaten into a plow share. He will rule with a rod of iron, but it will be just and right…not the government of men.
    5) Regarding Texas: Texas…its like a whole different country!

    • Paul Rusch

Yes Texas is a stand alone state on many issues and even if I do not live there I stand with them.
I also agree with you on your understanding of the Bible, as I too am a Christian. I also beleive that the lord gave man the knowledge to design and build tools to build, feed, heal, and defend himself with.
If you chose not to arm yourself, by all means, it is your choice and thank you for not standing in the way of my exercising my right to do so.
I am a combat veteran of the Vietnam war and am responsible for the loss of another mans life on the other side. Its not a pleasant thought even today. But I will not hesitate to defend my family if necessary. Hope it never comes to that.
      God Bless you and yours.

  • 13th Gen. American

    Dear Texas,
About how many more people do you think will fit there within reason without say… the whole thing getting to filled and heavy and sliding into the Gulf? I’m sorta afraid with all the people moving there from other states it just might throw the axis of the earth off a bit. Just wondering. PS. I’ll be coming down soon so could you please do something about the scorpions, huge ass cockroaches, poisonous snakes, gators, the bugs as big as birds, the heat and closing up the border would be helpful too.Thank you very much.
sincerely, Packing my bags in PA.

    • 13th Gen. American

Oh yes, I forgot the fire ants and killer bees and those pesky drug cartels. Other than that its a nice place.

    • Paul Rusch

Just adds to the personality of the place. All states have their little niches. We to have Rattle worms here, and scorpians, andother things like cougars that could eat you but hey they were here first. Who am I to mess with them. Awareness( condition yellow) will get you through just fine. Also you forgot the armidillos. I saw lots of them when I went through there. It’s a nice state and I hope you enjoy your future there. Don’t worry about the drug cartels. It will get handled……….. “Don’t Mess With Texas”.
P.S. don’t make no mind about the huge cock roaches dude, just dip’em in chocolate , they taste real good.

  • http://cardsbymartin.com Old Korean war vet.

Eric, one question, Who is your psychologist and is he an advocate of Freud, or Spock? I’d guess Spock. That would certainly explain why your head is so messed up and your thinking so vile toward those who think and act differently than you do.
For your own sake, please stop reading the L.A. and N.Y. Times. What information they pass on, is misinformation. It isn’t News. It is their “interpretation” of what they “think” is happening. Please find a better paper to read. I’ve been around for 80 years and I have gone shopping with a loaded .38 Cal. piston in both front pockets – handle hanging out. Oh yah, I was eleven. Back then, people carried guns when they wanted to. We didn’t even think about killing other people. We were civilized. Of course, that was before we had psychologists. People weren’t so screwed up before psychologists got popular. That was in 1949. Where do think all the screwed up, drugged-out kids from the ’60′s and ’70′s came from? Psychologists!
Her is something for you to think about: What you think is neither the basis, nor the criteria, for the truth.

  • Springer

Wow! Think I finally found where all the Patriots are hanging out!
I’ve been pretty alone over at http://www.personalliberty.com/news/lawsuit-challenges-denial-of-right-to-bear-arms. I keep trying to explain things to one person and he keeps spewing forth his same’ole tired “statistics”.
I”m played out for a while. Somebody else can go try over there if they want. :-)
To all my fellow Veteran’s on here, thank-you for your service and welcome home.

  • JLN

All this talk about guns is valid, especially now with the way our gov is on the “hunt for control”. My question to all of you is what are you going to do with your guns when there is no available ammo? You may be able to shoot a good distance but without bullets you can’t throw that far. I have recently heard our gov is not so much pursuing taking our guns but instead stopping the manufacture of ammo. Anyone care to share info on this?

    • Paul Rusch

Very simple solution, You arm yourself with the other sides stuff and use it against them. Hope nothing bad happens in this country and hopefully this Government will wake up and realize that we are the government, not the clowns we sent to D.C. to represent us. We will take them out at tha ballot box if necessary, and it looks like we will have to make some changes with what we see now.

ERIC, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU THAT EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITY WILL GO ALONG WAY WITH HAVING A PEACEFUL WORLD. HOWEVER, I TEACH AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL AND SEE MANY STUDENTS WHO CANNOT PUT A COMPLETE SENTENCE TOGETHER MUCH LESS COMPREHEND TECHNICAL ISSUES. GETTING AN EDUCATION DOES NOT COME THROUGH OSMOSIS. A PERSON HAS TO WANT IT AND BE PREPARED FOR THE HARD MENTAL WORK TO ACHIEVE IT. THIS LEADS TO WHY WE HAVE CRIMINALS BECAUSE THEY ARE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY LAZY AND SEE CRIME AS AN EASY QUICK WAY TO SURVIVE . OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS HAVE BROKEN DOWN DUE TO LIBERAL LEGISLATION AND PARENTAL NON-INVOLVEMENT. INDIVIDUAL FREEDOMS ARE CHERISHED, BUT THEY CAN GET OUT OF HAND AND LEAD TO EXCESSIVE LIBERALISM WHICH BREAKS DOWN THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE FAMILY, THE STATE AND EVENTUALLY THE NATION. OUR FOREFATHERS AND FRAMERS WERE INTELLIGENT FROM THEIR LIFE EXPERIENCES AND USED SUCH TO CREATE THE FINEST, MOST GIVING NATION EVER. THIS GREAT NATION HAS SAVED THE WORLD FROM TYRANNY AND CONTINUES TO DO SO TODAY. I AM VIETNAM MARINE COMBAT VETERAN AND HAVE SEEN THE HORRORS OF WAR AND THE PERSECUTION OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS. IT HAD TO BE CONFRONTED WITH GUNS DUE TO LEADERSHIP OF POWER HUNGRY POLITICAINS. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT CONFRONTS US IN OUR OWN STREETS AND NEEDS TO BE MET WITH WHATEVER FORCE IT TAKES AND REGRETABLY IT IS THE GUN. UNTIL WE CAN GET BACK TO OUR ROOTS OF FAMILY, SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES BEING LEFT ALONE TO FUNCTION IN THE COMMON SENSE WAY THAT MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT AND THE BEACON OF TRUE FREEDOM FOR THE WORLD, WE WILL HAVE LAWLESSNESS. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IMMIGRATION AS LONG AS IT IS DONE IN THE MANNER FOR WHICH IT WAS ORIGINALLY PRESCRIBED. ASSIMILATION TO AMERICAN IDEALS AND FOUNDINGS MUST BE ADHERED TO OR WE END UP WITH A COUNTRY DIVIDED AS WE SEE TODAY. TEDDY ROOSEVELT SAID IT BEST ” THIS COUNTRY HAS BUT ONE FLAG, THE AMERICAN FLAG. THIS COUNTRY HAS BUT ONE LANGUAGE, THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. THIS COUNTRY HAS BUT ONE LOYALTY AND THAT IS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE “. IF ANYONE CANNOT ASSIMILATE INTO THESE AMERICAN FOUNDINGS THEN THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE COME HERE AND GO ELSEWHERE ! I HAVE NOT RANTED AND RAVED AND USED DEROGATORY PERSONAL PUT DOWNS BECAUSE IT LEADS TO MORE HATE ! DON’T TAKE THIS AS BEING A PASSIFIST, BECAUSE I AM ANYTHING BUT THAT. I WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY A WEAPON ANYWHERE I AM LEGALLY ABLE TO AND WILL USE IT TO KILL IF NEEDED AND NEVER LOSE A MINUTES SLEEP ! I APPLAUD OUR POLITICAINS FOR THEIR DECISION AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL PREVENT UNNESSASARY LOSE OF LIFE. FREEDOM ISN’T FREE ! SEMPER FI

I to am a Marine combat vet of the Vietnam war. I am not as eloquent as you in setting a liberal straight. I just tell’em like it is and how I feel. I hold nothing back and it does result in some off color comments at times, but I agree with you for the most part. I can only hope that their are more educators out there who know what you do about humanity and its realities. I do not think however that the problems with society will be resolved anytime soon, and as a result we are responsible to protect ourselves and those around us. Again, the police are not required to protect us nor are their enough of them.
I wish life was nice and danger free and there wasn’t a reason why some people want to victimize others for what ever reason. But that simply is not going to happen. That applies for the domestic and international level. We must be ready to defend our selves from all enemies, foriegn and domestic and that includes our own government God forbid. That is why we have the Second Amendment and the Constitution.

SEMPER FI AND WELCOME HOME BRO ! YOUR EXACTLY RIGHT AND I FEEL EXACTLY LIKE YOU ! I’M A LIFE MEMBER OF THE NRA AND MARINE CORPS LEAGUE. I HAVE RESPONDED TO IGNORANT LIBERALS LIKE A D.I. IN THE PAST AND FOUND OUT IT JUST MAKES THEM COME BACK WITH MORE STUPIDITY. THEY HAVE NO FACTS TO PUSH THEIR AGENDA . THEIR LALA LAND, REGRETABLY , IS BACKED BY OUR GUTLESS POLITICIANS AND LAWYERS. ERIC IS RIGHT ABOUT EDUCATION, BUT IT HAS TO BE FACTUAL EDUCATION AND NOT SOME OUT OF CONTEXT DREAMED UP CORRICULUM SOME LIBERAL TEACHER WANTS TO BRAINWASH THOSE WHO CANNOT THINK AND RESEARCH FOR THEMSELVES. SELF PRESERVATION IS INHERENT IN ALL OF US AND ONLY THOSE THAT CHOOSE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES WILL DO SO. THE LAWS OF THIS LAND ONLY APPLY TO THE DECENT PEOPLE. YOUR RIGHT, COPS DO NOT HAVE ANY REQUIREMENT TO SAVE YOUR ASS AND 99.9
% OF THE TIME THEY JUST COME IN AND PUT BARRIERS UP AROUND THE MURDER SCENE. CARRYING A GUN AND KNOWING HOW TO USE IT IS ALOT LIGHTER THAN TRYING TO CARRY A COP AROUND AND MAKES MORE SENSE . I MADE SURE ALL MY KIDS AND MY WIFE CAN USE A HANDGUN AND SHOTGUN. MY TWO DAUGHTERS, SON AND WIFE HAVE CHL’S AND THEY CARRY. PAPER LAWS ARE LIKE STOP SIGNS, THEY AIN’T NO BRICK WALL AND WON’T STOP SHIT ! I PERSONALLY I FEEL WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CARRY OPENLY IF WE CHOOSE. NATURALLY YOU’D HAVE TO BE SURE SOME CROOK COULD’NT RIP IT OUT OF YOUR HOLSTER EASILY. IF MORE PEOPLE WOULD SHOOT THESE CROOKS THE SOONER MOST OF THEM WOULD GO INTO ANOTHER LINE OF WORK. I WAS WITH INDIA 3/1 IN 1969 AND WORKED THE QUANG NAM PROVINCE, DODGE CITY,CHARLIE RIDGE, GONOI AND CHRISTMAS ISLANDS AREAS SOUTH OF DANANG ABOUT 20 MILES. TAKE CARE BROTHER AND ” PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER ” ! SEMPER FI

That guy ERIC really pissed me off with his liberal spew. If you have some time go back through this whole blog from the start and you will see what I mean. Eric is not the only one, but regardless, there aren’t to many like him and the lions share are good conservative people who do appear to have the ability to reason.
I like you will always opt on the side of self defense for my self and family and friends, or anyone who my need my assistance. Thats what we do isn’t it?
We have open carry here as well as concealed. I am an NRA certified Pistol Instructor and a Life member as well. Every member of my family are Life members of the NRA. An armed society is a polite society.
Send me your contact info if you like and we will communicate furhter.

      • http://PERSONALLIBERTY JARHEAD_ NAM

IT REALLY TORE EVERYTHING UP AROUND HERE. I HOPE WE DODGE THE BULLET THIS SEASON. YOU MUST HAVE BEEN AROUND OR CLOSE TO THE ARMYS AMERICAL DIVISION AND SOME KOREAN ROCK MARINES ? WE HAD SOME ROCK MARINES NEAR US AND WE GOT INTO A FIREFIGHT THAT INVOLVED THE ROCKS. WE WERE OUT ON AN OPERATION AND SPOTTED 3 GOOKS NEAR A RIVER AND OPENED UP ON THEM. THE ROCKS WERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER, WHICH WE DIDN’T KNOW. WE HAD THE GOOKS IN A CROSSFIRE AND GOT ALL 3 AND WOUNDED 2 ROCKS. SOMEHOW COMMUNICATIONS GOT SCREWED UP . I THINK I READ ALL OF THE COMMENTS, BUT ERIC STOOD OUT AS THE HEAD LIBERAL. I HATE THOSE COMMIE BASTARDS IN OUR COUNTRY. NEVADA IS A GREAT STATE, KINDA LIKE WEST TEXAS, WIDE OPEN. I USED TO DEER HUNT IN WEST TEXAS AND LOVED BEING OUT THERE AMONGST THE MESQUITE TREES, CACTUS, HILLS AND RATTLESNAKES. I WISH HAD OPEN CARRY OPTION HERE. HOW IN THE HELL DID YA’LL GET A GUY LIKE HARRY REID OUT OF NEVEDA ? UNLESS HE HAS CHANGED, LIKE ALOT OF THESE PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS DO ? YA’LL NEED TO UNASS THIS GUY FROM WASHINGTON ! IT’S GREAT TALKIN TO YA AND GIVE ME A HOLLER WHEN YOU CAN. TAKE CARE, SEMPER FI , TOM

        • Paul Rusch

          Hey there Tom,
Yea your right, we had ROK Marines operating around us and did set in with them a time or two. Also, we hooked up with an Army unit and I think it was the 101st AB. Don’t remember right off. Man when I got to thinking about it, it seems like it was yesterday, and yet it was 40 years ago.
We plan on keeping our state free. We have some Liberal loons here but we let them know how much we dislike them. At least I do for sure. Their is nothing they say or do that works for me. But get this, I recently met a Liberal who was socialy Conservative and a gun owner. Imagine THAT !! Very strange. I met this guy while out shooting in the desert. Says he likes the guy in the White House, but doesn’t agree with his ideology, or policies. I don’t get it. Have you ever heard of this before? What wouyld you call it, a LIBCON?
That guy that is supossedly representing us in Washington is our target for defeat this next election cycle in 2010. We plan to send him back to the little town of Searchlight, Nevada, from whence he came. Yes unass him is the goal. He did have a B rating from the NRA at one time, but now an F.
I will set you up in my e-mail list and we can communicate back and forth and keep each other up to speed on whats going on between our states.
Yea, those hurricanes are not fun. I have had that wonderful experience in Florida, and Tonado in wisconsin as a child, and Flood here in Fernley a little over a year ago. Yes you heard me right, Aflood here up on the high desert. It took out about 300 homes. It was caused by airrigation levee break. Hell I didn’t even know we had a levee canal system here until then I thought, but then it dawned on me that we have to cross a canal full of water to get out of town. Never even flashed on it until it flooded the town.
We are surrounded by mountains that get snow on them in winter but not much on the ground here. We are also surrounded by desert and almost all of it is owned by the Federal Gov. ( BLM) . As a result, all we do is take a short ride out of town, about 2 miles and go shootig. Our state plant is the tumbleweed, Now don’t laugh, I’m not kidding. It is. Our state flower right now is the orange road construction cone because there is so much road construction going on and they are everywhere.
Any way, I did tell you that I am an NRA certified pistol instructor and that I teach CCW ( Concealed Carry Weapons0 classes here didn’t I. We do have open carry here also. I hope many states claim sovereignty like Texas and show the bums in Washington D.C. that we will not obey them if they pass oppressive ledgislation. I don’t know where this is going to end but I hope it will be peiceful and that we can vote them out in 2010. Talk at ya later guy and you and yours take care. God Bless . Hope also that you fare better this hurricane season. If you need help with something I will come there and help. There are many of us that will, not only because people from your area came to our aid, but because its what brothers do.

          Semper Fi Tom

Trouble is inevitable and I wish to be prepared. You don’t go to a bear fight with a switch. That is a tree limb for the fools that do not believe in the right to self defense.

  • Amy Emerson

When I went to school in the 1960′s & 70′s , It was normal to have sixth grade NRA gun safety classes for all students! It is prudent and wise for all young people to learn how to use firearms in the event they may have to hunt or worse yet; defend themselves in our own land against any invading enemy. Responsible adults during my childhood instructed me and my siblings on all facets of gun ownership. If one looks at other cultures they would see that THEY make sure their citizens & children KNOW HOW to use a gun.
    Americans must face the facts.
We can only defend ourselves. No one else will do it for us. I am for the college students carrying concealed weapons on campus. Look at past! Crackpots go on campus and shoot innocent people. Maybe if some responsible students carry guns too ; there will be a fair chance of survival against those who would harm us.

    • JCfromDC

Went to school same time you did. WE never had any NRA anything until Boy Scouts, not in Virginia schools anyway, tho’ my High School did have a rifle team

  • JCfromDC

These boards are in severe need of a spellcheck device, tho’ it wouldn’t matter. i.e., USS Kohl (Cole), rein (reign), passifist (pacifist), BAFFUN (buffoon), rite (right). I used to think it was just bad typing (like mine!), but no, it is a basic failure of public educaton that has failed in spelling, phonics, and ENGLISH! We all look like IDJUTS!
