STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 25 (UPI) — Swedish investigators say an accused pedophile may have contacted hundreds of children through the Internet.
Police are asking the public for help in identifying potential victims of the 41-year-old man who has been in custody since April, accused of five counts of sexual assault and 13 counts of sexual molestation, the Swedish news service TT reported Thursday.
An investigation of the man’s computer helped police identify 14 young girls, most of them between the ages of 7 and 18. They are still searching for an additional 35 victims.
He is believed to have used a number of aliases on Internet chat forums and social media Web sites, the report said. Police said they’ve identified 800 addresses on the suspect’s computer.
The suspect has previous convictions for assault and molestation, the report said.
