KENNER, La., Aug. 24 (UPI) — A man who jumped off a Louisiana bridge into the Mississippi River is a suspect in one prostitute’s slaying and a “person of interest” in another’s, police say.
Authorities in seven boats were searching the waters Wednesday for Kylan M. Laurent, 22, of Vacherie, La., The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.
Police said Laurent stopped his car on the Veterans Memorial Bridge near Vacherie and jumped 133 feet into the river after a high-speed police chase Tuesday.
Police identified Laurent as a suspect in the Monday night slaying of Anita McDonald, 22, of Flowood, Miss., who was found strangled in a Comfort Suites room in Kenner.
Laurent also is a “person of interest” in the Aug. 10 slaying of Jateese Hudgins, 21, of Philadelphia, also found strangled less than 2 miles away in a room at a La Quinta Inn in Metairie, police said.
Both were known prostitutes, police said.
Laurent also is a “person of interest” in the assault of a dancer at a Harvey, La., motel, authorities said. A police report said the Ohio woman, 22, was staying at a Sun Suites Motel and had posted an advertisement on a social media Web site saying she wanted to meet someone “just for company.”
The police report said a man who met her at the room Aug. 18 put his hands around her neck and choked her until she lost consciousness. He had bound her hands behind her back with electric tape and taped a pillow over her face, the report said. She regained consciousness, freed herself, and found her computer, cash and three phones had been stolen.
The victim, who refused medical treatment, had redness on her neck and ligature marks, the report said.
