Study warns food, energy demand may outpace production

July 10, 2009 by

Study warns food, energy demand may outpace production According to a newly published report, with the caloric needs of the global population expected to rise by 50 percent in the next 40 years, better planning and investment in global agriculture are becoming critical.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) participated in preparing the report that found a gap between agricultural production and demand that is expected to get even worse due to climate change, increasing demand for biofuels and a growing scarcity of water.

"There will come a point in time when we will have difficulties feeding world population," says David Zaks of NIES, a co-author of the report.

"The solution is only going to come about by changing the way we use land, changing the things that we grow and changing the way that we grow them," he believes.

The authors says growing demand can be met by a combination of expanding agriculture to now marginal or unused land, substituting new types of crops and expansion of technology that includes improved irrigation, fertilization and precision, high performance equipment.

They also advocate intensifying yields using genetically modified crops.

Meanwhile, those who are concerned about food shortages and their survival may consider storing food.

Items that are good for storage include non perishable foods such as dried or canned meats, fruits and vegetables as well as bottled water.

The idea for controlling these items is called communism and there’s a hell of a try right now to stuff that nonsense down your throat, so that the world’s populace can all suffer equally and the annointed elite can live in comfort, like Algore and friends or the Obama’s and thugs.

The free market under a capitalistic system made this country thrive, the amount of untapped energy, the incentive and the technical means to maintain America’s quality of life is here but the lies permeate the airwaves and the media seems to favor the heavy hand of socialism over that of a free market, free thought system. It’s as though somehow or rather we have allowed the laggards and the clowns to upend the laws of logic just to see if they might know something, when we already knew better. They don’t and now it’s going to be their hard fall policy of preplanned failure the agenda that makes them the example of ultimate ignorance, they could not do more to prove that they can ruin the heart of this nation by reinstalling the LBJ victimhood plan, impair our industry and stop energy developement that will milk the ability of so many and keep them beholding to the government and our nation dependent on others.

There is no perfection in any government but this Republic has shown the world what a man with a free will and security can achieve, it has brought great minds to this country and put this nation in front of all others in so many ways and in turn we gave the world far more than any country has ever been able to do, by riding ourselves of the chains that this adminstration is desperately trying to impose again, we will work to continue to be the leaders of the free world.

O.B.A.M.A = One big As* Mistake America.

Oh, you should NOT worry now; the secret shadow government will do some “diseases, wars, even SovietUnion-style attacks” on the population, to reduce the growing population numbers. The first attack to kill off 120 MILLION Christians, White people happened in 1914,1917 then 1945. More on the way. Just count the events as they are happening everyday.

What more needs to be said than that! And here we go, marching toward our own slaughter, just as the Bible predicts!

The Federal Government could quit paynig the farmers not to grow food! We could keep the same prices and sent the extra to some place like Darfur. This would keep the price up for the farmer. And instead of sending money and people to Darfur, we could just feed them!

on time is a typical corporatistic dividender that believes anything and anything is for sale, except maybe his wife, girlfriend or boy friend. he most likely lives in a gated community that is protected by electronic security systems and loves to complain about how much his taxes are going up. on time is most likely a supporter of both wars, but is not for any type of tax increase to pay for the cost of the war or to pay for the vets benefits when or if they return home.
he is also most likely a rush limpbaugh fan, rush is another fine anti taxation pro war corporatist know it all drug addict and three time looser that thinks cutting taxes will pay for both wars!!!!

lets stop trying to save the world and save ourselves!!!
a man can save the whole world and loose his own soul, seems thats what our nation is attempting to do.

corporate farms will sell their products to the highest bidder, even if the high bidder happens to be iran or china.
the free market is not so free.

google up , who and what countries are selling food and other comodities to iran. japan, china and the u.s are the heavy hitters followed by some european countries. haliburton is still doing business with the iranian goverment. interesting how the big three on the permanant 5 u.n. security council are the top money makers doing business with iran.

some of your kids husbands and wives are fighting in afghanistan or iraq so american corporations can have the freedom to sell their services or goods to iran…… american corporations are doing busniess with the country that is making the ieds that are killing your family members …….. gota love the unregulated free market system,,, sarcasim on full blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oldtimer, your sarcastic rant was unjust. ontimes testimony is both accurate and well written. True American capitolism is not without proper discretion of conduct and in the beginning, there was no doing business with the enemy of our souls. One must first right one’s own ship before lifting another from the deep.
