Study: Flaxseed Lowers Cholesterol Levels In Men

April 2, 2010 by

Flaxseed lowers cholesterol levels in menMen who are suffering from high cholesterol and are looking for an alternative to traditional medications such as Crestor®, Zocor®, or Lipitor® may be in luck. According to a new study from Iowa State University’s Nutrition and Wellness Research Center, consuming minimal amounts of daily flaxseed lignans can moderately decrease cholesterol in men in as few as three months.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, approximately 17 percent of Americans suffer from high cholesterol, which often contributes heart disease and other significant health issues.

In the study, lead author Suzanne Hendrich and her colleagues monitored 90 people who were diagnosed with high cholesterol, but were otherwise healthy. The participants were divided into three groups and were assigned to take daily capsules containing zero, 150 or 300 milligrams of flaxseed lignans for three months.

At the point of follow-up, the research team found that consuming at least 150 milligrams of flaxseed lignans per day can decrease cholesterol levels in men by approximately 10 percent. However, the treatment did not produce any significant results in women.

"There are certainly some people who would prefer to not use a drug, but rather use foods to try to maintain their health," Hendrich said. "So this potentially would be something to consider."

Study: Flaxseed Lowers Cholesterol Levels In Men: I would like to do this, but can’t. I have hemorrhoids that become inflamed when I use Flaxseed! In fact, it seems to me that most “good” foods are rejected by my body in some way. I wonder what that means about such healthful foods?

DO A GOOGLE SEARCH ‘FLAXSEED HEMORRHOIDS’ & U’LL FIND ABOUT THE RECOGNIZED BENEFITS OF FLAXSEED OIL FOR HEMORRHOIDS. INCREASE FIBER FOODS, & REDUCE PROCESSED FOODS, IMPROVE CONSTIPATION / DIARHEA WHICH ARE COMMON CAUSES OF HEMORRHOIDS. LIMIT TIME ON TOILET TO MINIMUN. OVER TIME NOTICE THE IMPROVEMENTS.

First, get an MD you can trust (good luck). If your MD knows anything about cholesterol’s role in good health, you’ll be told that what matters is the RATIO of good cholesterol to bad (cholesterol). If your MD suffers from a bad case of “FRIEND, I GOTTA PILL FOR YOU,” run away.
You’ll get better advice from people who have dealt with cholesterol matters for a long time (don’t waste your time reading newspapers or watching the evening news). Trust those who ‘deliver.’
Sift through the disinformation specialists, and put your faith in those who use real science – not ‘science’ that loves easy money and goes to bed with business.

No such thing as good cholesterol / bad cholesterol. It’s all the same. the LDL carries cholesterol into the blood stream, from the liver where it is produced, and is deposited on arterial walls. The HDL carries it back to the liver. It just depends on the amount of LDL/HDL proportions on how much stays in the arteries.

Flaxseed has a definite effect on cholesterol, the Doc recommended that i take 3K mg a day, that’s three large capsules and it made a great del of difference in my metabolism. If you don’t like the taste of the fish omega then flax is the next best thing.
